Women s Rights In A Thousand Splendid Suns
It is beyond belief that a person could ever be deprived of their own sexuality, but in A Thousand
Splendid Suns, Hosseini constructs the differences between men s and women s sexuality to highlight
this exact social injustice in Afghanistan. His depiction of women s issues proves that as the years go
by, there is still so much room for improvement regarding domestic violence, rape, unequal
opportunities, and more. Throughout the novel, the justifications that preserve these problems can be
tied back to the same ideas in the United States and around the world. Khaled Hosseini demonstrates
women s restrictions and men s freedoms regarding sexuality through the conflict Mariam and Laila
must face throughout the novel; their experiences show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of this is Rasheed using this idea as justification for raping a 15 year old girl. After
consummating their marriage, he says, There is no shame in this, Mariam, [...]. It s what people do. It
s what the prophet himself and his wives did. There is no shame. Rasheed uses religion as a base for
his excuse, displaying the depth of men will be men. The concept is deeply rooted in Afghan society,
and even further so by stretching the actions of Muslim religious figures into excuses for rape.
Although it is true that there is no shame in sexual intercourse, there is definitely shame in the sexual
assault of a teenager. His inability to differentiate between the two demonstrate society s lack of
concern for consent, as well. Mariam becomes a rape victim, but it is clear she is also a victim of
socialization. Because she has been told over and over again that men are different than women, she
believes this herself. She excuses Rasheed for owning pornography by thinking, Could she fault him
for being the way God created him (Hosseini 83) ? Similarly to Rasheed, Mariam uses religion to
justify her spouse s dishonesty. She has been taught to believe that men are the way they are because
they cannot help it, that in opposing his actions she is opposing how God has built him. Members of
this society, even women, are socialized to believe men are

The Perception Of Human Attitudes And Values
From this class I learned that the circumstances that you are born into and raised in help shape who
you become. Our attitudes and values are shaped early on by those who around us most frequently and
hold positions of power in our estimation. As children we both listen and observe the adults around us.
Without realizing it, we often take on their points of view until we are challenged. Moreover, few
people realize that their deeply held beliefs actually exist because of someone else. Most people are
not challenged on their beliefs and values, instead we tend to congregate with other people who share
and reinforce our values. When we are challenged and even presented with empirical facts that run
counter to our beliefs we are hesitant to change our minds. This is called belief perseverance. Humans
use inductive reasoning to support their cognitive bias. Most humans do this. It is hard to simply let of
an ingrained notion and take a counter stance. Since facts and information to the contrary does not
work effectively to change people s minds, the only option is repeated exposure and experience with
the irrefutable facts. An example would be someone being raised to believe that all homosexual men
are also violent pedophiles, despite not knowing any homosexual men in real life. Simply telling them
that this is not the case is not likely to change their minds, but repeated positive experiences with a
friendly gay neighbor who is a parent, a doctor, a church goer and never

Catholic Reformation Essay
During the 16th century, Protestantism emerged as a new sect of Christianity. This process was not
calm or peaceful in the slightest. Protestant leaders like Martin Luther and John Calvin fiercely
attacked and denied traditional Catholic beliefs, causing much controversy and debate upon religion.
Many regions of Europe as a whole were converted to Protestantism, and many more Protestants
emerged in areas where Catholicism remained the state religion. The Catholic faith became less and
less appealing to people as the abuses of the clergy were now publicly addressed by reformers and a
new, personal approach to religion was offered in Protestantism. In addition, rulers favored
Protestantism as a state religion because it meant that no power ... Show more content on

An important declaration was that The Vulgate, a translation of the Bible into Latin made by St.
Jerome, was the only official version of the Bible. This meant that people had to know Latin to read
Scripture, so the right of individuals to have their own interpretation of Scripture was denied.
Monasticism continued to be an important practice, and the existence of purgatory was reaffirmed.
The Council of Trent set out to reaffirm and restate traditional Catholic beliefs in order to protect
against the Protestant Reformation. The members of the Council of Trent realized the unfair abuses of
the church, and called for reform. In this way, they were protecting themselves against criticism from
Protestant reformers. A drastic reform of monastic orders was launched. The council acted against the
abuse of indulgences while still upholding the principle. This meant that indulgences could not just be
sold; indulgences were granted when an individual did something truly good. Also, bishops were to
reside in their respective dioceses and attend more carefully to their duties, exercising more control
over clergy. Pluralism was checked and steps were taken to make sure church officials were eligible
for the job. In order to have an educated clergy, the council ordered that a seminary be set up in each
diocese for priest training. More careful steps were to be taken to ensure the celibacy of clergy. The
Council of Trent was able to eliminate many abuses of the

Ancient Egypt vs. Canada
Ancient Egyptians are very interesting people. They were very successful and very powerful. Life in
ancient Egypt was not easy. They grew their own food and made their own clothes. They did as best
they could with what they had. Life in Canada seems easy compared to ancient Egypt. Their cuisine,
clothing, language, government, schooling and contributions to their society were different from ours.
For my essay I have written about each of these and seen the differences and similarities between
ancient Egypt and Canada.
The Egyptians made their clothing from plant fibers, linen, and sometimes cotton. Because of the hot
and sunny climate in Egypt, people had to wear thin lightweight clothes. The ancient Egyptians loved

A difference would be that Canada has multicultural foods while Egypt has only one cuisine.
Ancient Egyptian Government was dominated by a single man, the Pharaoh. The position was
inherited and was passed down to the eldest of the king s chief wife. The people believed that the king
was more than a man, however, but that he was a god. This gave him absolute control over the affairs
of the Empire and its people. Ancient Egypt was also a theocracy, which meant that it was controlled
by the clergy. The Pharaoh s advisors and ministers were almost always priests, who were considered
the only ones worthy and able to carry out the god king s commands. As in most religious ancient
societies, priests had special status above the rest of the citizens, forming a kind of nobility. The
governmental officials included the vizier (or the prime minister), the chief treasurer, the tax collector,
the minister of public works, and the army commander. These officials were directly responsible to the
Pharaoh. The land itself was divided up into provinces called nomes. Each nome had a governor, who
was appointed by the Pharaoh and responsible to the vizier. Taxes were paid in goods and labor.
Citizens were drafted into the army and into forced labor for periods of time to pay what was called a
corvée (the labor tax). Slaves, mercenaries, and draftees were often used in the

The World Of The Buddha
Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, who lived in northern India from 560 to 480 B.C, founded
Buddhism Buddhism, one of the major religions of the world. The time of the Buddha was one of
social and religious change, marked by the further advance of Aryan civilization into the Ganges
Plain, the development of trade and cities, the breakdown of old tribal structures, and the rise of a
whole spectrum of new religious movements that responded to the demands of the times (Cones 10).
These movements were derived from the Brahmanic tradition of Hinduism but were also reactions
against it. Of the new sects, Buddhism was the most successful and eventually spread throughout India
and most of Asia. Today it is common to divide Buddhism into two main branches. The Theravada, or
Way of the Elders, is the more conservative of the two; it is dominant in Sri Lanka, Burma, and
Thailand (Berry 23). The Mahayana, or Great Vehicle, is more diverse and liberal; it is found mainly
in Taiwan, Korea, and Japan, and among Tibetan peoples, where it is distinguished by its emphasis on
the Buddhist Tantras (Berry 24). In recent times both branches, as well as Tibetan Buddhism, have
gained followers in the West. It is virtually impossible to tell what the Buddhist population of the
world is today; statistics are difficult to obtain because persons might have Buddhist beliefs and
engage in Buddhist rites while maintaining folk or other religions such as Shinto, Confucian, Taoist,
and Hindu (Corless

The Battle Of Normandy And World War II
D Day Research Paper
D Day was one of the largest amphibious invasions in history(History.com). While preparation for the
operation was extensive, it resulted in the liberation of France (from the Germans), which later
resulted Allies winning the Battle of Normandy and World War II (History.com). Now D Day can be
broken down into four main components: the planning of the invasion, the weather conditions, the
Atlantic Wall, and the execution/success. There is no doubt that D Day was integral to the Allies
victory in World War II, for even an article written by History.com says The Normandy landings have
been called the beginning of the end of war in Europe. (History.com). To better understand the turning
point of the World War II, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Allies did indeed put a huge effort into their training, for Stephen E Ambrose writes No matter
how brilliant the plan, no matter how effective the deception, no matter how intense the preinvasion
sea and air bombardment, Overlord would fail if the assault squads did not advance. (Ambrose 133).
The Allies had begun loading their equipment on May 31, 1944, with plans to launch Operation
Overlord on June 5(Ambrose 173). With countless months of planning of training, they Allies were
ready to move forward with their invasion. However, a complication popped up that could have
completely derailed the operation; the weather (Klein).
The weather, which had been beautiful clear skies, little wind for the first three days of June, began to
deteriorate says a quote from D Day Illustrated Edition: June 6, 1944: The Climactic Battle of World
War (Ambrose, 195). The day of the invasion (June 4), an Allied weather conference was held
(Ambrose 197). At that conference, an Allied Meteorologist Captain J. M. Stagg, delivered his weather
predictions, which was bad news to the Allies (Ambrose 197). Captain Stagg had predicted that June 5
(the originally planned date of the D Day invasion) would experience stormy weather conditions
(Ambrose 197). This weather certainly would have disrupted the Allies planned

Javert
Law: Its Paradoxical Purpose
Knowing that most law authorities follow the laws, but still have compassion over others,
I was intrigued that Victor Hugo created Javert to be the opposite. To explain, Javert is persistent in
imprisoning every person who has ever broken the law and has no leniency. Javert has an undeniable
correlation with law in late nineteenth century France, so his faults alludes to the faults of the law.
Through the embodiment of law in Javert, Victor Hugo in Les Misérables explains that the law can be
a means to help and protect citizens, but with its faults, it can end up causing more harm than good. To
establish this relationship, we will analyze Javert s values and why they are the way they are, then,
suggest how a relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When we live in a world full of injustice, it is easy to become uncompassionate. But, on the rare
occasion that we are shown compassion and pity, we should show it back. This situation occurred
between Javert and Valjean towards the end of the book. In a twist of events, Javert gets taken prisoner
in Enjolras barricade and is sentenced to death. Valjean takes up the task of killing Javert but
surprisingly spares his life. Shortly after this event takes place, Javert and Valjean encounter each
other once again. This time, Valjean truly turns himself in and explains to Javert that he is ready for
any punishment; however, he asks for two favors. Surprisingly, the no admitting exceptions Javert
allows this. Both Valjean and Javert are shocked about this. Javert explains that he saw before him two
roads, both equally straight, but he saw two, and that terrified him...these two roads were
contradictory. One of these two straight lines excluded the other. Which of the two was the true one?
(Hugo 530). Since this is the first time Javert has contradicted himself even slightly, he questions his
whole belief system asking which of the two [roads] was the true one. It is clear that there two
contradictory roads represent the law and his conscience. This is a surprising question because from
what we know about Javert, he knows what he believes in like the back of his hand and he would

Why I Support For The Secdef
The unwritten rule when partaking in discussions professionally is to avoid matters that cover religion
and politics. Many people care very deeply about religion and/or politics, and many factors have
contributed to these passionate opinions. The bottom line is when talking about these topics, focus and
effort are diverted from what is most important in a professional environment. In the military, the
same dynamic can and has been observed in units across the country. The military is a melting pot of
culture, religion, and political opinions with individuals who care deeply about them. Presidential
campaigns summate most of these topics in one discussion. Most conversations start with, Who do
you support and why? . The why, is where most heated debates begin. Today, more pressure than ever
has been placed on service members to comment on presidential campaigns. In addition, more
avenues to comment are now available. In my paper, I will explain why support for the SECDEF is
crucial to help service members remain focused and the united states military to function more
effectively without political influence. Social media is something almost every American citizen
participates in, in today s society. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest, LinkedIn,
Snapchat, and countless other examples of social media exist and in each someone can communicate
with the world if he or she pleases. For example, Facebook currently has 1.71 billion users according

Verbal Communication Norms
verbal communication norms in local perspective are when a Hondurans are very expressive and use a
lot their hand gestures. During a meeting, you may touch someone with your elbow when you want
the person to pay special attention to what is being discussed. It is common to point someone or
something out with the lips. Hondurans are generally friendly, helpful people who like to meet and
talk to foreigners to provide directions and other casual conversation. At times, they stand close during
a conversation, often leaning in to emphasize a point. When it comes to asking for directions, always
ask multiple people as Hondurans make an effort to be kind and helpful but will sometimes provide
misguided directions. People who live in poverty, that are lower level employees or otherwise
perceive themselves , will avoid making eye contact, listen, agree with everything you say, and wait
for instructions. At times, it can be difficult to get people to respond, give feedback, provide
information, or be critical of your ideas or the situation at hand. The more educated a person is, the
more likely they are to interact with you as an equal; however, habits of deference are hard to break.
Due to the fear of extortion, Hondurans at work and at home rarely answer the phone from a number
they do not know. One way to get past this reluctance is to send a text message by cell phone and/or
email introducing yourself with your phone number, and when you are planning to call. Honduras has
embraced mobile phone culture with Whatsapp and Facebook being the most popular messaging tools;
some companies only use a Facebook for their online media. Using them might be the best way for a
person to get in touch with people.
4. Non verbal communication in Hundra is when men always firmly shake hands when greeting each
other. In a business setting, men and women will shake hands as a greeting. At an informal level,
greetings with members of the opposite sex usually include lightly kissing the cheek (or air kiss beside
the cheek). When someone goes to their country and when they know you are from somewhere else
so, they often offered a hand by Honduran women instead of the first greeting. Perhaps the most
common hand gesture is the

Spread Of Islam In North Africa Essay
In the years before the Postclassical Period, the northern African region was predominantly influenced
by polytheistic and animistic religions. The region also held a variety of nomadic cultures that had a
major focus on clan and family relationships. In familial roles, men had a different and higher standard
than women. In 610 C.E., the religion of Islam was founded in the northern African region, and the
establishment of this religion effectively revolutionized the region and its effects lasted for years
afterwards. The emergence of Islam was the first instance in world history in which a religion, through
its universal elements, was able to effectively revolutionize social relationships, political institutions,
and economic establishments that helped completely unite societies within the region, and also was
able to effectively spread itself across multiple empires within the Indian Ocean region. The

Before the influence of Islam spread over, the societies within the region lacked concentration of
political power and authority, as they possessed no ruler or kingdom. However, the emergence of
Islam provided political unity. Empire building was a success as Islam existed as an ideology that
supported the missions of expansion and conquest by the state. As societies began to exist as an entire
empire united by Islam. The military fought for Islam by spreading their faith, and government leaders
were united in their faith. The religion of Islam also encouraged that all were equal, which allowed for
more followers to accept the idea of being conquered and brought under new leadership, as they all
would be united by Islam and citizens would be able to identify with their rulers. Islam allowed for
separate political entities to combine under one ideology, effectively revolutionizing the political

Atomic Bombs On Hiroshima, Japan, And The United States
August 6th 1945, the United States dropped the first of two atomic bombs on Hiroshima, Japan. World
War Two was practically over, but Japan and the United States weren t getting along due to Japan
bombing Pearl Harbor. The President of the United States (Truman) and U.K. Prime Minister Winston
Churchill Issued the Potsdam Declaration which was the declaration that was put on the table for
Japan after Germany had surrendered. Earlier in the war we had been putting together atomic weapons
in case the war was getting out of hand. Since Japan wouldn t surrender after the Potsdam we dropped
the 1st bomb. Japan had still not surrendered so we dropped a second bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. There
was a combined total of casualties after the 1st bomb of 140,000. The second bomb totaled out to
120,000 casualties. Dropping these bombs helped the United States win the war. In my Opinion, the
decision to drop both bombs on Japan was the best alternative the United States had to remain stable
and to hold military lives. There are many reasons the United States choose to drop the Atomic bomb.
According to the White House press release the decision was pretty much made up after the Potsdam
declaration, which gave Japan the opportunity to surrender, was refused by Japan so the United States
was then in full force. Their leaders promptly rejected that ultimatum. If they do not now accept our
terms they may expect a rain of ruin from the air, the like of which has never been seen on this

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome During Pregnancy
Fetal alcohol syndrome is caused by the consumption of alcoholic beverages during the 9 months of
pregnancy. It used to be believed that a small amount of alcohol during pregnancy was safe, and
maybe even healthy, but now researchers are starting to find that no amount of alcohol is safe during
pregnancy. Even though researchers now know that even small amounts of alcohol could harm
fetuses, doctors are still telling women that it s ok to drink during pregnancy. It s estimated that each
year in the U.S., 1 in every 750 infants is born with fetal alcohol syndrome.
Fetal alcohol syndrome is a completely preventable birth defect. The best prevention is to avoid all

All The Broken Pieces Character Analysis
Summer and Fall Metaphor In the novel, All the Broken Pieces, by Ann E. Burg, Matt makes a
comparison between himself and his brother when he defines his brother as summer and himself as
fall . This metaphor can be explained not only by their physical features, but their emotional and
mental characteristics as well. His brother features summer and hasn t faced any misery, while he
himself looks like fall and has come across atrocious things. Tommy looks like summer to Matt.
Quoted from the novel, Tommy is summer sunlight, peaches, wide grinning sky. Even Tommy s hair is
summer. Curls sling to his scalp like yellow and white sweet corn... This instance conveys that Tommy
s appearance is like summer, because Tommy is always radiant and makes people blissful. He is never
bitter and sorrowful, and continually has a grin on his face. His hair is also yellow and white like
summer. Matt favors fall. He is too much fall wet brown leaves under a darkening sky This quote

of free spirit and happiness. According to the novel, ...through screaming madness and choking dust,

Ovid s Devaluation of Sympathy in Metamorphoses Essay
Ovid s Devaluation of Sympathy in Metamorphoses
Ovid reveals two similar tales of incest in the Metamorphoses. First, he describes the non sisterly love
Byblis acquires for her twin brother Caunus. Later, he revisits the incestuous love theme with the story
of Myrrha who develops a non filial love for her father, Cinyras. The two accounts hold many
similarities and elicit varying reactions. Ovid constantly tugs at our emotions and draws forth
alternating feelings of pity and disgust for the matters at hand. Repetition with a difference in these
two narratives shows how fickle we can be in allotting and denying sympathy, making it seem less
valuable.

Myrrha points out her misfortune and state of misery; since she was not been born to those tribes in
which / the mother mates with her own son, the daughter / with her own father (339), she is forlorn
denied the very man for whom [she longs] (339). Overwhelming confusion in each girl s speech elicits
further pity. Byblis begins her speech struggling to interpret her dream; it was a beguiling scene yet
seemed so true (308). Myrrha begins asking, Where has my mind led me? (339), and wonders what
makes this incestuous passion unlawful because [she has] not heard that any god or written law
condemns the union of a parent and his child (Crane on line). She decides that human scruples repress
unions like these; envious law forbids what nature permits (Mandelbaum 339), but later, contrary to
this conclusion, she states she does not want to defile the code / of nature with a lawless flame (340).
Myrrha longs to leave [her] native land (339), but her passion compels her to stay so she can see,
touch, speak to, and especially kiss her father (339 40). She feels these interactions should be
sufficient and doesn t understand what drives her to ask for more. Byblis mind sways when she wishes

Colonisation was created through the emergence of European capitalism from the 1500 s and
continues today. Colonisation depends on the systematic exploitation of environmental and human
resources which still continue in today s societies. Colonisation is the process of where control over
spirituality, land, language and education, health and family structures and also culture itself is passed
down from the indigenous people to the colonisers. (Colonisation and Racism, 2000.) Pre invasion in

Aboriginal people built semi permanent dwellings; as a society emphasis was on the relations in the
family, group and country rather than the development of an agrarian society. The land was so
important to the Aboriginal people, their ownership and legal systems were far different from the
European legal systems. Different areas of land were created by the dreaming creation stories and each
individual belonged to certain territories within the family group and also had different spiritual
connections, therefore they belonged to their land they didn t own it. Different systems placed each
individual in different relationship to every other person in the groups and determined the behaviour
of an individual to one another. This was called the kingship system. It also determined the behaviour
of individuals and how they spoke to one another, there were the codes of behaviour that outlined their
roles on the community. The aboriginal people had different defined roles amongst the community
depending on their age and genders; generally the men s role was the hunter and was also giving the
role of managing cultural obligations that were important to their group. Whereas the women s role in
the community was the gatherer where they prepared food for the family, they also had the role of
early child rearing and they also had talks in cultural obligations. (Bearndt and Bearndt, 1992).

Brief Beginning Statement. From Any Walk Of Life, An Eagle
Brief Beginning Statement
From any walk of life, an Eagle Scout will say what made them an Eagle was not the award, but the
challenges they went through to obtain that rank. As I begin to come closer and closer to the finish
line, I am beginning to realize that scouting has instilled upon me life lessons that I will never
overlook. Scouting has revealed to me that under no circumstances will I be the best at anything if I do
not persist and overcome. Also, it has bestowed upon me valuable lessons of morals and life teachings
that is the backbone to creating functional members of any society. Consequently, the lessons I gained
in the Scouting program will stay with me for the rest of my life.

The Boy Scouting program from the start was all orientated towards being self reliant. A learning
curve was given to almost all the new boys when joining the troop. In other words, no longer would
the adults be responsible for packing our gear, buying our patrol s food, communicating with other
members, contacting merit badge counselors, or making sure we had all of our requirements. A whole
slew of responsibility and accountability was placed upon a young boy who had no previous
experience whatsoever. What made the Boy Scout program a little bit daunting at first was that it, in
essence, pushed boys into a pool of new duties. These challenges from the outset allowed me to
become more focused, more organized and more self reliant.
Harsh moments such as forgetting a portion of my patrol s meal, had forced me to become more
structured. The little subtleties such as forgetting to get a requirement signed and having to do it all
over again showed many boys that they are going to have to be independent. What made the Scouting
program unique to me is that it required boys, such as myself, to become more independent and look
towards solutions. While in my younger and maybe more exposed years, I had to become accustomed
to being an advocate for my own success. I can definitely say that many kids at my grade did not grow
up with the same mindset as I did.

My Hair and I Essay
My Hair and I
At some point in a woman s life, she is, if like most women, unhappy with her hair. A woman with
straight hair wishes for curly ringlets. A woman with curly hair wants stick straight locks. Thick and
coarse desires to be fine and thinner. Fine and thin begs for thick hair.
I was one of those women. My hair has an energy, personality, and life of her own. I refer to my hair
as she because, although by technical definition my hair is not a separate living being, and although I
have no proof of her life to show others, I know that she not only grows and reproduces (two
characteristics by which many measure life), but she responds to stimuli, shows emotions, and can

Don t ask what business an Indian girl with my hair had getting a white American pageboy do. It was
wrong, I realize that now. But I remember after getting that cut, my hair began to freely express her
emotions and moods. It was like she had woken from a long, deep slumber. Maybe it was the shorter
length, maybe it was a natural development phase. It s not clear why she chose to stage her debut at
that point. But one thing was clear, she was not going to do whatever I wanted her to.
When I was 13, I decided to grow out my pageboy style. This decision was not difficult (but
unfortunately for me, not timely). I decided this after looking at my seventh grade yearbook picture. I
was smiling into the camera. My hair was pointing in five different directions from my head,
screaming I wanna be a star!!
Naturally, during adolescence, I decided to test my independence, forge new boundaries, and find my
personality. My hair was no different.
Our morning routine was usually the showdown. Every morning, I trudged to the bathroom, still
wiping the sleep from my eyes, vaguely aware of the struggle ahead of me. There, in the reflection of
the mirror, my head would still be wearing yesterday s styling havoc. My hair would look back at me
with a wide grin, while dancing a jig on top of my head, and say, What are we gonna do today?!?
No! I would whine, jabbing a brush indiscriminately into the tangled

Fiduciary Acceptance Definition
The fiduciary administration is the responsibility of the trustee for managing the trust property. The
trustee has all of the powers over trust property that a legally competent, unmarried individual has
with respect to individually owned property. But it is the beneficiaries, not the trustee, that bear the
consequences of the trustee s exercise of these powers. Meanwhile, by making a transfer in
testamentary trust rather than outright leave them to their heirs, a settlor ensures that the property will
be managed and distributed in accordance with his wishes which expressed in the terms of the trust
rather than the whims of the beneficiaries. A testamentary trust also allows the settlor to empower the
trustee to decide how the trust property ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the view above, beneficiaries may bear high risk for the consequences of intentionally or
negligently improper actions of trustee. So there must be some measures to protect the beneficiaries
from mismanagement or misappropriation by the trustee. In deciding whether and how to exercise the
powers of the trusteeship, the trustee is subject to and must act in accordance with the trustee s
fiduciary duties. The fiduciary duties come from the law of fiduciary administration, whose purpose is
to induce the trustee to adhere to the terms of the trust and to act prudently and in the best interests of
the beneficiaries. Trustees are subject to overarching fiduciary duties of loyalty and prudence. The
fiduciary duties are the highest standard of care, at the same time, trustees have to be subject to a host
of subsidiary duties, such as keeping adequate records and disclosing information about the trust to the
beneficiaries. If trustee breaches the fiduciary duties, he or she may be removed from office, and need
to account for the ill gotten profit. The beneficiaries are entitled to damages, even if they suffered no

Why I Want To Teach For America Essay
1 I seek to join Teach for America, because I seek to continue to serve others in my community and
my nation. I want to give others the opportunities that I have been afforded and inspire those who feel
hopeless. Throughout my career, I have seen what transformational and servant leaders can
accomplish in government and the private sectors. Why can t we have that in our classrooms? It s the
place where we are investing into future communities. Why not instill those value early and often into
our children so they will better decision makers in the future?
Secondly, I see Teach for America as an avenue to transition quickly from my former career into a
new on, but a focused transition. I believe working with and through Teach for America I can be
placed in location or school where I can serve not only as a teacher, but as an example to others. My
experiences and background can demonstrate a different path is available. This is why I seek to join.
To offer my skills to better those who come after.

Environmental Impact On Habitat Fragmentation
Habitat fragmentation is happening all around the world, even in developed countries such as the USA
and UK, and is having a detrimental impact on species biodiversity (Hanski, 2015). Habitat
fragmentation is a process by which a landscape is transformed into an unsuitable habitat for the
present species. When a habitat becomes fragmentated this results in the habitats to develop into
smaller patches and can even create patches of isolation, completely different to its original state
(Fahrig, 2003). Fragmentation can occur naturally, through processes such as wildfires and windfall
however, with the constant increase in human population (7 billion in 2017), habitat fragmentation is
becoming more frequent and destructive due to the rise in human land use (Oikos, 1994).
Healthy biodiversity cannot be maintained with habitat fragmentation being present, as this will
decrease habitat space, structure and connectivity causing a decline in biodiversity. To measure the
impacts habitat fragmentation is having on species, there have been certain methods which have been
conducted to understand its full impact (Oikos, 1994). Some methods include comparing species
richness in artificial habitat fragmentation patches to species richness in normal conditions, or the
common one being used is to test the relationship between density and patch size. When assessing
habitat fragmentation, species richness is the point of call, as this is believed to not only show the
number of species,

Essay about Rational Choice Theory in Political Science
Rational Choice Theory in Political Science
According to one of rational choice theory s prominent and more thoughtful contemporary exponents,
Peter C. Ordeshook, four books mark the beginning of modern political theory: Anthony Downs s An
Economic Theory of Democracy (1957), Duncan Black s Theory of Committees and Elections (1958),
William H. Riker s A Theory of Political Coalitions (1962), and James Buchanan and Gordon Tullock
s The Calculus of Consent (1962). These volumes, along with Kenneth Arrow s Social Choice and
Individual Values (1951), began such a wealth of research that political scientists today have difficulty
digesting and synthesizing all but small parts of it. Consequently, the full value of this research often

First I will provide an overview of what rational choice theory is and why it has staked such a
prominent position in the discipline of political science. In this section I conclude that rational choice
theory has indeed developed advanced methodologies at telling us how rational agents should behave.
Then in my second section I will show, using the empirical case of the free rider problem and
collective action, as well as the case of suicide terrorism, that rational choice theory cannot adequately
account for actual political phenomena. In my third section I will provide some reasons for why this is
the case. Finally, in my concluding section I will posit a theoretical framework incorporating some
refinements to the assumptions behind rational choice theory that would better aid a predictive (but
not universalist) political science.
What is Rational Choice Theory?
Rational choice theory is actually more than one theory per se, but the basic similarities among its
variants mean that they can be intelligibly amalgamated for the purposes of critiquing its
implementation in political science. Therefore public choice theory, positive political science, rational
actor models, and the economic approach to politics, among others, refer to what we may call rational
choice theory for the purposes of this essay. (See Green and Shapiro 1994, xi.

Macbeth as a Tragic Hero in William Shakespeare s Play Essay
Macbeth as a Tragic Hero in William Shakespeare s Play
The play Macbeth by William Shakespeare charts the rise and fall of the Scottish general Macbeth,
through a tale of treachery, deceit and death. First performed in 1606 Macbeth is inspired by a story of
the Scottish monarchy. A tragic hero is one who at the outset is not wholly good or bad but has a
character fault that causes them to make tragic mistakes resulting in their eventual downfall. Macbeth
is a renaissance tragedy and we can see that Macbeth s decisions to move away from war hero to
noble aggressor as an example of him being an archetypal renaissance tragic hero. We can define
Macbeth as a renaissance tragedy because Macbeth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difference between kingship and tyranny is highlighted in this play from the outset. King Duncan
is a virtuous king who always puts the needs of his subjects before the needs of himself, whereas
Macbeth as King is solely concerned with his own needs.
The three main causes of tragedy as identified by Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, are all contained
within Macbeth . The first of these causes is revenge, which is shown by MacDuff as he sets out on a
quest to avenge the murder of his kinsman Duncan. Secondly, a fall from greatness or De Casibus is
clearly shown by Lady Macbeth, who at the start of the play is possibly the strongest character but
throughout the course of the play degenerates into madness resulting in her suicide. Finally and most
importantly of all ambition is clearly shown as the driving force behind the murders of Duncan and
Banquo. By exploring revenge, De Casibus and ambition Shakespeare transforms Macbeth from a
historical play into a tragedy.
The tragedies of William Shakespeare often include a tragic hero. A tragic hero is one who brings
about his own ruin and the ruin of those he loves. The tragic hero is not necessarily evil; he is simply
human and has human flaws. Often there is a fatal flaw which leads to his downfall. In the play
Macbeth the tragic hero is the central protagonist, he is tempted by the chance to take the

Panthers Football Team
The New Richland Hartland Ellendale Geneva Panther football team surprised many people this year
with their success. Overcoming the low expectations of many people, this team went 7 3 and won a
playoff game. Many kids stepped up at their positions and gave the squad a whole new look on the
season. Instead of being below average, the Panthers became a tough, play off contending team to
watch out for. Before the season started there wasn t too much confidence from anybody, not even
from the coaches and players. Assistant coach of the Panther Football team, John Schultz, said I would
say we probably would win about three games by beating the teams that were really down and lose to
the average and above average teams. The reason the lack of confidence was their was because of how
heavy they graduated. The Panthers lost their starting quarterback, fullback, two linemen, and a wide
receiver. Every one of these players were key players in their six wins last season. The big question in
the pre season was whether or not new faces could fill the shoes of the graduated seniors. Since these
players were all talented in their own ways, it seemed impossible. Fortunately, all of these positions
were filled with young players that had determination and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the rest of the game was played in terrible conditions. The storm had gotten so bad, lightning started

Executive Functions In Older Adults Essay
Introduction The present paper reviews the benefits of exercise on executive functions in older adults
and discusses a potential mechanism through which exercise may change the way the brain processes
information for better cognitive outcomes. Specifically, older adults who are more physically active
demonstrate a shift toward local neural processing that is associated with better executive functions.
We discuss the use of neural complexity as a sensitive measure of the neural network plasticity that is
enhanced through exercise. We conclude by highlighting the future work needed to improve exercise
prescriptions that help older adults maintain their cognitive and physical functions for longer into their
lifespan.

Age related neuromuscular junction (NMJ) plays a key role in musculoskeletal impairment that occurs
with aging. Changes in the NMJ precede or follow the decline of muscle mass and strength remains
unresolved. When a motor neuron is lost, fibers previously innervated by that neuron, defined as a
motor unit, are no longer controlled by the nervous system and fail to contribute to the force generated
during a volitional muscle contraction. In the attempt to counteract the functional consequence of this
process, denervated orphan fibers express proteins and produce chemotactic signals that stimulate the
sprouting of new dendrites from residual motor neurons. This process leads re innervation by the
expansion of pre existing motor units and is aimed at returning to function previously denervated
muscle fibers. There is evidence that this compensatory mechanism starts failing with aging. The
reason for a progressive impairment of the re innervation process with aging is unknown, but some
lines of evidence point to changes that occur with aging in the neuromuscular junction (NMJ), which
is the synaptic interface between a branch of a motor neuron and muscle cells. The NMJ is composed
of three elements: pre synaptic, intrasynaptic, and post synaptic part. The function of the NMJ is to
transmit signals from the motor neuron to the skeletal muscle fibre quickly and

Ethics in the Editing Business
The Ethics of Editing
In the editing business, there are particular ethical codes that should be adhered to by all those
involved in the profession. Professional editors Tod Roberts and Mary Schendlinger both suggest that
some of the most fundamental principles of ethics in editing include the editor s responsibility to the
writers, to society/readers, and to the editing profession itself. An editor s objective is to adequately
balance the writer s needs, the industry s standards, and the reader s expectations so as to produce a
story that satisfies all three.
One of the very important ethical codes that editors should always remember is to treat all writers and
their works with respect equally. Authors have their own unique styles, forms of writing, and voice
and that should not be diminished as long as it does not directly impact the writing in a negative
manner. An editor s responsibility to polish and refine a writing. They will help guide a story s focus
along a certain path and direct the audience s to major points that they need to be aware of. Editors
also cut out extraneous parts that prove to be nonessential to the story s purpose. At the same time,
editors must always consider the writer s feelings or opinions and should always use tact when making
suggestions so as to reduce the possibility of discord between the author and the editor. When such
disagreements do arise, the editor must attempt to reach a compromise with the author. Editors do
often have the

Theme Of Death In The Book Thief
Death, in The Book Thief, is narrating a story about a German girl named Liesel. He tells her story
through his point of view. Throughout The Book Thief, he has shown two characteristics; honesty and

which is that they both appear before a person dies. But, with similarities, there are differences. One of
them is that Death in The Book Thief cannot be seen. and some differences as the Death in the poem

A characteristic that Death shows in The Book Thief is honesty. Death is always honest. An example

Another time when he shows honesty is on page 242, Death says, He d have cried and turned and

  • 2. Women s Rights In A Thousand Splendid Suns It is beyond belief that a person could ever be deprived of their own sexuality, but in A Thousand Splendid Suns, Hosseini constructs the differences between men s and women s sexuality to highlight this exact social injustice in Afghanistan. His depiction of women s issues proves that as the years go by, there is still so much room for improvement regarding domestic violence, rape, unequal opportunities, and more. Throughout the novel, the justifications that preserve these problems can be tied back to the same ideas in the United States and around the world. Khaled Hosseini demonstrates women s restrictions and men s freedoms regarding sexuality through the conflict Mariam and Laila must face throughout the novel; their experiences show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example of this is Rasheed using this idea as justification for raping a 15 year old girl. After consummating their marriage, he says, There is no shame in this, Mariam, [...]. It s what people do. It s what the prophet himself and his wives did. There is no shame. Rasheed uses religion as a base for his excuse, displaying the depth of men will be men. The concept is deeply rooted in Afghan society, and even further so by stretching the actions of Muslim religious figures into excuses for rape. Although it is true that there is no shame in sexual intercourse, there is definitely shame in the sexual assault of a teenager. His inability to differentiate between the two demonstrate society s lack of concern for consent, as well. Mariam becomes a rape victim, but it is clear she is also a victim of socialization. Because she has been told over and over again that men are different than women, she believes this herself. She excuses Rasheed for owning pornography by thinking, Could she fault him for being the way God created him (Hosseini 83) ? Similarly to Rasheed, Mariam uses religion to justify her spouse s dishonesty. She has been taught to believe that men are the way they are because they cannot help it, that in opposing his actions she is opposing how God has built him. Members of this society, even women, are socialized to believe men are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Perception Of Human Attitudes And Values From this class I learned that the circumstances that you are born into and raised in help shape who you become. Our attitudes and values are shaped early on by those who around us most frequently and hold positions of power in our estimation. As children we both listen and observe the adults around us. Without realizing it, we often take on their points of view until we are challenged. Moreover, few people realize that their deeply held beliefs actually exist because of someone else. Most people are not challenged on their beliefs and values, instead we tend to congregate with other people who share and reinforce our values. When we are challenged and even presented with empirical facts that run counter to our beliefs we are hesitant to change our minds. This is called belief perseverance. Humans use inductive reasoning to support their cognitive bias. Most humans do this. It is hard to simply let of an ingrained notion and take a counter stance. Since facts and information to the contrary does not work effectively to change people s minds, the only option is repeated exposure and experience with the irrefutable facts. An example would be someone being raised to believe that all homosexual men are also violent pedophiles, despite not knowing any homosexual men in real life. Simply telling them that this is not the case is not likely to change their minds, but repeated positive experiences with a friendly gay neighbor who is a parent, a doctor, a church goer and never ... • 4. Catholic Reformation Essay During the 16th century, Protestantism emerged as a new sect of Christianity. This process was not calm or peaceful in the slightest. Protestant leaders like Martin Luther and John Calvin fiercely attacked and denied traditional Catholic beliefs, causing much controversy and debate upon religion. Many regions of Europe as a whole were converted to Protestantism, and many more Protestants emerged in areas where Catholicism remained the state religion. The Catholic faith became less and less appealing to people as the abuses of the clergy were now publicly addressed by reformers and a new, personal approach to religion was offered in Protestantism. In addition, rulers favored Protestantism as a state religion because it meant that no power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An important declaration was that The Vulgate, a translation of the Bible into Latin made by St. Jerome, was the only official version of the Bible. This meant that people had to know Latin to read Scripture, so the right of individuals to have their own interpretation of Scripture was denied. Monasticism continued to be an important practice, and the existence of purgatory was reaffirmed. The Council of Trent set out to reaffirm and restate traditional Catholic beliefs in order to protect against the Protestant Reformation. The members of the Council of Trent realized the unfair abuses of the church, and called for reform. In this way, they were protecting themselves against criticism from Protestant reformers. A drastic reform of monastic orders was launched. The council acted against the abuse of indulgences while still upholding the principle. This meant that indulgences could not just be sold; indulgences were granted when an individual did something truly good. Also, bishops were to reside in their respective dioceses and attend more carefully to their duties, exercising more control over clergy. Pluralism was checked and steps were taken to make sure church officials were eligible for the job. In order to have an educated clergy, the council ordered that a seminary be set up in each diocese for priest training. More careful steps were to be taken to ensure the celibacy of clergy. The Council of Trent was able to eliminate many abuses of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Ancient Egypt vs. Canada Ancient Egyptians are very interesting people. They were very successful and very powerful. Life in ancient Egypt was not easy. They grew their own food and made their own clothes. They did as best they could with what they had. Life in Canada seems easy compared to ancient Egypt. Their cuisine, clothing, language, government, schooling and contributions to their society were different from ours. For my essay I have written about each of these and seen the differences and similarities between ancient Egypt and Canada. The Egyptians made their clothing from plant fibers, linen, and sometimes cotton. Because of the hot and sunny climate in Egypt, people had to wear thin lightweight clothes. The ancient Egyptians loved all forms of jewelry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A difference would be that Canada has multicultural foods while Egypt has only one cuisine. Ancient Egyptian Government was dominated by a single man, the Pharaoh. The position was inherited and was passed down to the eldest of the king s chief wife. The people believed that the king was more than a man, however, but that he was a god. This gave him absolute control over the affairs of the Empire and its people. Ancient Egypt was also a theocracy, which meant that it was controlled by the clergy. The Pharaoh s advisors and ministers were almost always priests, who were considered the only ones worthy and able to carry out the god king s commands. As in most religious ancient societies, priests had special status above the rest of the citizens, forming a kind of nobility. The governmental officials included the vizier (or the prime minister), the chief treasurer, the tax collector, the minister of public works, and the army commander. These officials were directly responsible to the Pharaoh. The land itself was divided up into provinces called nomes. Each nome had a governor, who was appointed by the Pharaoh and responsible to the vizier. Taxes were paid in goods and labor. Citizens were drafted into the army and into forced labor for periods of time to pay what was called a corvée (the labor tax). Slaves, mercenaries, and draftees were often used in the ... • 6. The World Of The Buddha Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, who lived in northern India from 560 to 480 B.C, founded Buddhism Buddhism, one of the major religions of the world. The time of the Buddha was one of social and religious change, marked by the further advance of Aryan civilization into the Ganges Plain, the development of trade and cities, the breakdown of old tribal structures, and the rise of a whole spectrum of new religious movements that responded to the demands of the times (Cones 10). These movements were derived from the Brahmanic tradition of Hinduism but were also reactions against it. Of the new sects, Buddhism was the most successful and eventually spread throughout India and most of Asia. Today it is common to divide Buddhism into two main branches. The Theravada, or Way of the Elders, is the more conservative of the two; it is dominant in Sri Lanka, Burma, and Thailand (Berry 23). The Mahayana, or Great Vehicle, is more diverse and liberal; it is found mainly in Taiwan, Korea, and Japan, and among Tibetan peoples, where it is distinguished by its emphasis on the Buddhist Tantras (Berry 24). In recent times both branches, as well as Tibetan Buddhism, have gained followers in the West. It is virtually impossible to tell what the Buddhist population of the world is today; statistics are difficult to obtain because persons might have Buddhist beliefs and engage in Buddhist rites while maintaining folk or other religions such as Shinto, Confucian, Taoist, and Hindu (Corless ... • 7. The Battle Of Normandy And World War II D Day Research Paper D Day was one of the largest amphibious invasions in history(History.com). While preparation for the operation was extensive, it resulted in the liberation of France (from the Germans), which later resulted Allies winning the Battle of Normandy and World War II (History.com). Now D Day can be broken down into four main components: the planning of the invasion, the weather conditions, the Atlantic Wall, and the execution/success. There is no doubt that D Day was integral to the Allies victory in World War II, for even an article written by History.com says The Normandy landings have been called the beginning of the end of war in Europe. The Allies did indeed put a huge effort into their training, for Stephen E Ambrose writes No matter how brilliant the plan, no matter how effective the deception, no matter how intense the preinvasion sea and air bombardment, Overlord would fail if the assault squads did not advance. (Ambrose 133). The Allies had begun loading their equipment on May 31, 1944, with plans to launch Operation Overlord on June 5(Ambrose 173). With countless months of planning of training, they Allies were ready to move forward with their invasion. However, a complication popped up that could have completely derailed the operation; the weather (Klein). The weather, which had been beautiful clear skies, little wind for the first three days of June, began to deteriorate says a quote from D Day Illustrated Edition: June 6, 1944: The Climactic Battle of World War (Ambrose, 195). The day of the invasion (June 4), an Allied weather conference was held (Ambrose 197). At that conference, an Allied Meteorologist Captain J. M. Stagg, delivered his weather predictions, which was bad news to the Allies (Ambrose 197). • 8. Javert Law: Its Paradoxical Purpose Knowing that most law authorities follow the laws, but still have compassion over others, I was intrigued that Victor Hugo created Javert to be the opposite. To explain, Javert is persistent in imprisoning every person who has ever broken the law and has no leniency. Javert has an undeniable correlation with law in late nineteenth century France, so his faults alludes to the faults of the law. Through the embodiment of law in Javert, Victor Hugo in Les Misérables explains that the law can be a means to help and protect citizens, but with its faults, it can end up causing more harm than good. To establish this relationship, we will analyze Javert s values and why they are the way they are, then, suggest how a relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When we live in a world full of injustice, it is easy to become uncompassionate. But, on the rare occasion that we are shown compassion and pity, we should show it back. This situation occurred between Javert and Valjean towards the end of the book. In a twist of events, Javert gets taken prisoner in Enjolras barricade and is sentenced to death. Valjean takes up the task of killing Javert but surprisingly spares his life. Shortly after this event takes place, Javert and Valjean encounter each other once again. This time, Valjean truly turns himself in and explains to Javert that he is ready for any punishment; however, he asks for two favors. Surprisingly, the no admitting exceptions Javert allows this. Both Valjean and Javert are shocked about this. Javert explains that he saw before him two roads, both equally straight, but he saw two, and that terrified him...these two roads were contradictory. One of these two straight lines excluded the other. Which of the two was the true one? (Hugo 530). Since this is the first time Javert has contradicted himself even slightly, he questions his whole belief system asking which of the two [roads] was the true one. It is clear that there two contradictory roads represent the law and his conscience. This is a surprising question because from what we know about Javert, he knows what he believes in like the back of his hand and he would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Why I Support For The Secdef The unwritten rule when partaking in discussions professionally is to avoid matters that cover religion and politics. Many people care very deeply about religion and/or politics, and many factors have contributed to these passionate opinions. The bottom line is when talking about these topics, focus and effort are diverted from what is most important in a professional environment. In the military, the same dynamic can and has been observed in units across the country. The military is a melting pot of culture, religion, and political opinions with individuals who care deeply about them. Presidential campaigns summate most of these topics in one discussion. Most conversations start with, Who do you support and why? . The why, is where most heated debates begin. Today, more pressure than ever has been placed on service members to comment on presidential campaigns. In addition, more avenues to comment are now available. In my paper, I will explain why support for the SECDEF is crucial to help service members remain focused and the united states military to function more effectively without political influence. Social media is something almost every American citizen participates in, in today s society. During a meeting, you may touch someone with your elbow when you want the person to pay special attention to what is being discussed. It is common to point someone or something out with the lips. Hondurans are generally friendly, helpful people who like to meet and talk to foreigners to provide directions and other casual conversation. At times, they stand close during a conversation, often leaning in to emphasize a point. When it comes to asking for directions, always ask multiple people as Hondurans make an effort to be kind and helpful but will sometimes provide misguided directions. People who live in poverty, that are lower level employees or otherwise perceive themselves , will avoid making eye contact, listen, agree with everything you say, and wait for instructions. At times, it can be difficult to get people to respond, give feedback, provide information, or be critical of your ideas or the situation at hand. The more educated a person is, the more likely they are to interact with you as an equal; however, habits of deference are hard to break. Due to the fear of extortion, Hondurans at work and at home rarely answer the phone from a number they do not know. One way to get past this reluctance is to send a text message by cell phone and/or email introducing yourself with your phone number, and when you are planning to call. Honduras has embraced mobile phone culture with Whatsapp and Facebook being the most popular messaging tools; some companies only use a Facebook for their online media. Using them might be the best way for a person to get in touch with people. 4. Non verbal communication in Hundra is when men always firmly shake hands when greeting each other. In a business setting, men and women will shake hands as a greeting. At an informal level, greetings with members of the opposite sex usually include lightly kissing the cheek (or air kiss beside the cheek). The region also held a variety of nomadic cultures that had a major focus on clan and family relationships. In familial roles, men had a different and higher standard than women. In 610 C.E., the religion of Islam was founded in the northern African region, and the establishment of this religion effectively revolutionized the region and its effects lasted for years afterwards. The emergence of Islam was the first instance in world history in which a religion, through its universal elements, was able to effectively revolutionize social relationships, political institutions, and economic establishments that helped completely unite societies within the region, and also was able to effectively spread itself across multiple empires within the Indian Ocean region. World War Two was practically over, but Japan and the United States weren t getting along due to Japan bombing Pearl Harbor. The President of the United States (Truman) and U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill Issued the Potsdam Declaration which was the declaration that was put on the table for Japan after Germany had surrendered. Earlier in the war we had been putting together atomic weapons in case the war was getting out of hand. Since Japan wouldn t surrender after the Potsdam we dropped the 1st bomb. Japan had still not surrendered so we dropped a second bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. There was a combined total of casualties after the 1st bomb of 140,000. The second bomb totaled out to 120,000 casualties. Dropping these bombs helped the United States win the war. In my Opinion, the decision to drop both bombs on Japan was the best alternative the United States had to remain stable and to hold military lives. There are many reasons the United States choose to drop the Atomic bomb. According to the White House press release the decision was pretty much made up after the Potsdam declaration, which gave Japan the opportunity to surrender, was refused by Japan so the United States was then in full force. Harsh moments such as forgetting a portion of my patrol s meal, had forced me to become more structured. The little subtleties such as forgetting to get a requirement signed and having to do it all over again showed many boys that they are going to have to be independent. • 23. Environmental Impact On Habitat Fragmentation Habitat fragmentation is happening all around the world, even in developed countries such as the USA and UK, and is having a detrimental impact on species biodiversity (Hanski, 2015). Habitat fragmentation is a process by which a landscape is transformed into an unsuitable habitat for the present species. When a habitat becomes fragmentated this results in the habitats to develop into smaller patches and can even create patches of isolation, completely different to its original state (Fahrig, 2003). Fragmentation can occur naturally, through processes such as wildfires and windfall however, with the constant increase in human population (7 billion in 2017), habitat fragmentation is becoming more frequent and destructive due to the rise in human land use (Oikos, 1994). Healthy biodiversity cannot be maintained with habitat fragmentation being present, as this will decrease habitat space, structure and connectivity causing a decline in biodiversity. To measure the impacts habitat fragmentation is having on species, there have been certain methods which have been conducted to understand its full impact (Oikos, 1994). Some methods include comparing species richness in artificial habitat fragmentation patches to species richness in normal conditions, or the common one being used is to test the relationship between density and patch size. When assessing habitat fragmentation, species richness is the point of call, as this is believed to not only show the number of species, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this section I conclude that rational choice theory has indeed developed advanced methodologies at telling us how rational agents should behave. Then in my second section I will show, using the empirical case of the free rider problem and collective action, as well as the case of suicide terrorism, that rational choice theory cannot adequately account for actual political phenomena. In my third section I will provide some reasons for why this is the case. Finally, in my concluding section I will posit a theoretical framework incorporating some refinements to the assumptions behind rational choice theory that would better aid a predictive (but not universalist) political science. What is Rational Choice Theory? Rational choice theory is actually more than one theory per se, but the basic similarities among its variants mean that they can be intelligibly amalgamated for the purposes of critiquing its implementation in political science. King Duncan is a virtuous king who always puts the needs of his subjects before the needs of himself, whereas Macbeth as King is solely concerned with his own needs. The three main causes of tragedy as identified by Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, are all contained within Macbeth . The first of these causes is revenge, which is shown by MacDuff as he sets out on a quest to avenge the murder of his kinsman Duncan. Secondly, a fall from greatness or De Casibus is clearly shown by Lady Macbeth, who at the start of the play is possibly the strongest character but throughout the course of the play degenerates into madness resulting in her suicide. Finally and most importantly of all ambition is clearly shown as the driving force behind the murders of Duncan and Banquo. By exploring revenge, De Casibus and ambition Shakespeare transforms Macbeth from a historical play into a tragedy. The tragedies of William Shakespeare often include a tragic hero. • 27. Executive Functions In Older Adults Essay Introduction The present paper reviews the benefits of exercise on executive functions in older adults and discusses a potential mechanism through which exercise may change the way the brain processes information for better cognitive outcomes. Specifically, older adults who are more physically active demonstrate a shift toward local neural processing that is associated with better executive functions. We discuss the use of neural complexity as a sensitive measure of the neural network plasticity that is enhanced through exercise. We conclude by highlighting the future work needed to improve exercise prescriptions that help older adults maintain their cognitive and physical functions for longer into their lifespan. Anatomy Physiology The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Age related neuromuscular junction (NMJ) plays a key role in musculoskeletal impairment that occurs with aging. Changes in the NMJ precede or follow the decline of muscle mass and strength remains unresolved. When a motor neuron is lost, fibers previously innervated by that neuron, defined as a motor unit, are no longer controlled by the nervous system and fail to contribute to the force generated during a volitional muscle contraction. In the attempt to counteract the functional consequence of this process, denervated orphan fibers express proteins and produce chemotactic signals that stimulate the sprouting of new dendrites from residual motor neurons. This process leads re innervation by the expansion of pre existing motor units and is aimed at returning to function previously denervated muscle fibers. There is evidence that this compensatory mechanism starts failing with aging. The reason for a progressive impairment of the re innervation process with aging is unknown, but some lines of evidence point to changes that occur with aging in the neuromuscular junction (NMJ), which is the synaptic interface between a branch of a motor neuron and muscle cells. The NMJ is composed of three elements: pre synaptic, intrasynaptic, and post synaptic part. The function of the NMJ is to transmit signals from the motor neuron to the skeletal muscle fibre quickly and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Ethics in the Editing Business The Ethics of Editing In the editing business, there are particular ethical codes that should be adhered to by all those involved in the profession. Professional editors Tod Roberts and Mary Schendlinger both suggest that some of the most fundamental principles of ethics in editing include the editor s responsibility to the writers, to society/readers, and to the editing profession itself. An editor s objective is to adequately balance the writer s needs, the industry s standards, and the reader s expectations so as to produce a story that satisfies all three. One of the very important ethical codes that editors should always remember is to treat all writers and their works with respect equally. Authors have their own unique styles, forms of writing, and voice and that should not be diminished as long as it does not directly impact the writing in a negative manner. An editor s responsibility to polish and refine a writing. They will help guide a story s focus along a certain path and direct the audience s to major points that they need to be aware of. Editors also cut out extraneous parts that prove to be nonessential to the story s purpose. At the same time, editors must always consider the writer s feelings or opinions and should always use tact when making suggestions so as to reduce the possibility of discord between the author and the editor. When such disagreements do arise, the editor must attempt to reach a compromise with the author. Editors do often have the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
