Conservatives In The Handmaid s Tale
In the novel The Handmaid s Tale, Margaret Atwood depicts a near future world in which
Christian theonomy has overthrown the United States Government, and all of the women s rights
are taken from them. The novel is told from the perspective of a woman who is living in the new
world and how she survives it, as well as how she ended up in this horrendous position. Atwood s
novel has been read by millions of individuals throughout the years, leaving many with different
perspectives on it. This critical response will examine how liberals and conservatives have
interpreted the novel in different manners. Every person has their own interpretation of things, for
example, liberals versus conservatives while reading this novel. Liberals could read this... Show

This is one of the few parts in the novel were conservatives and liberals would have the same
perspective on, but for different reasons. Both conservatives and liberals would find this
completely unacceptable and altogether distasteful. Conservatives would interpret this as
something utterly horrible because the men are going out and being unfaithful to their wives and
being a disgrace to the community. They would find it shameful that the eyes, spies around
Gilead making sure everyone is following the rules, are not doing anything about this and are just
letting the men get away with this distasteful act. Conservatives would point out the fact that
Jezebels should not have been allowed in the first place. Anyone who rebels should either be
executed or exiled. Liberals would also find this distasteful, mostly for the fact that men are being
allowed to act out but women are not. Not to forget the fact that the Jezebels are looked down on
by everyone who knows about them, but the highest ranking men going to visit them are not. The
men are on the same level if not worse than the Jezebels, but everyone turns his or her heads at
them and pretends nothing is happening. As always men are not held to the same standard as
women are, causing the women to always be the ones getting

Flatworm Lab Report
Universal Statement: There are three phylum of worms. There are the flatworms
(Platyhelminthes), roundworms (Nematoda), and the segmented worms (Annelida). Flatworms
have long, flat bodies and are usually parasites. An example of one is the Planarian, which are
free living and feed like a vacuum cleaner. Roundworms have long, round bodies and unlike
cnidarians or flatworms, have a digestive system that is like a tube, open at both ends. Segmented
worms have long, round bodies made up of linked segments. Segmented worms also have a closed
circulatory system. Earthworms, that we were learning in our lab are from phylum Annelida. In the
lab we were examining the internal anatomy of the earthworms and comparing it to a human s. 1

Studying Islam Through International Students ...
While Baton Rouge, cannot be considered a large city, it is home to a well sized state University.
Considering the amenities that the school has access to and the ever rising demand for fluent
English in workforces around the globe, it is not surprising there is a large international student
population. My research took place among the Omani students here. I chose Islambecause I felt
conducting fieldwork among a group that I had been acquainted with and had several connections
with, would a good way to go about learning about a religion with which I was familiar on the
most basic terms. I decided to study Islam through these international students experiences with

These dietary practices and attitudes affect even those who might not sure the same thoughts
about food as someone. Even the very absence of it, fasting, has a huge impact on not only one s
physical but also mental state. In Islam, it is used as an oppurtunity to remind oneself of the
benevolence of Allah with the prayer Praise to Allah for feeding us, giving us to drink and making
us Muslims. (Raman 2014: 967). For Muslims, fasting is the fourth of the Five Pillars. It is
recommended to develop self control. During this month of Ramadan all adults are expected to fast
from sunrise to sunset, except under special circumstances such as travelling, sickness, pregnancy,
and the like. (Raman 2014: 970). Ramadan is also important for Ramadan strengthens religious
discipline and encourages believers to remember the great days when Allah sent the Quran to all
people of the world through the Prophet Muhammad.( Novaković 2013:1992)
Although Islam is one of the youngest of the world s major religions (the founder being born in
570 CE), it is already the second most popular religion in the world (second only to Christianity).
With 1.2 billion Muslims across the globe, they are found to be the majority in the Middle East,
parts of North and East Africa, China, South and Southeast Asia, South Eastern Europe with
substantial communities in former colonizing countries like France. Islam is the fastest growing

Summary Of The Selfish Gene By Richard Dawkins
In the book, The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins he elaborates on two very important phrases
that he will share throughout the entire book. This book will show how both individual selfishness
and individual altruism are explained by the fundamental law that I am calling gene selfishness. (6)
I am sure we all know the word selfishness pretty well, but to some altruismmay be new. The way I
view it is that if someone is altruistic, than they do things that benefit the good of the group, species,
or simply, anyone but themselves. In this book we learn the difference in natural selection and how
selfishness and altruism effect those things. Dawkins will mainly relate his matter to different types
of animals and explain the biological changes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main idea of the book was somewhat interesting, but science has never been by favorite
subject . But some things did pop out to me. This is a book about someone s theory of how
animals and in way even hums are what they are. This is something that based on my religion
can be debatable but i do fully understand where and why this information is stated. I do agree
that humans should act, in way, similar to animals because i have noticed with just some of my
observations that the growing process of these animals turn out to be marvelous creatures. I also
know that humans are very selfish in many ways and do not always focus on the final result
because they are to occupied focusing on the now and what they want now. If we were more like
the altruistic behavioural species then we would definitely be a much more successful kind. For
example, a long time ago humans became up with the word changing idea of electricity, factories,
etc. then, it was the best thing to ever happen. Things got done people were happy live was
fantastic. Although today this advances are not necessarily helpful as helpful to us. Of course i do
know we would be nothing without them, but we are also suffering very much with global
warming and smog, etc.but way back when we didn t even think about all this. This is a harsh
example but in smaller portions, according to The Selfish Gene, animals would plan this out better
because they look at the good

Night Of Babysitting
Most people find surviving a night of babysitting impossible. Children can be intimidating at
times. Babysitting is not as difficult as people may think. You can survive a night of babysitting
if you follow a few steps. Some people find babysitting difficult, in order to survive a night of
babysitting you should use the following steps. First, you will need an abundance of energy.
Children have tons of energy and they are always moving and you need to keep up with them.
Next, you should keep the children busy. You should plan activities for the children to do such as
painting, hide and go seek, and board games. If you do not plan any activities to keep the children
busy they will create their own entertainment, which means more work for you.

A Look into Cleopatra’s Early Life Influences
For Rome, who had never condescended to fear any nation or people, did in her time fear two
human beings; one was Hannibal, and the other was a woman (Lefkowitz and Fant 126). During
a time dominated by male rulers, Cleopatra VII Philopator (69 BCE 31 BCE), the Last Pharaoh
of Egypt, stood out among them all. With Egypt s wealth at her disposal, she was incomparably
richer than anyone else (Schiff 2). The amount of power a ruler had at the time of Cleopatra s
existence depended highly on the level of financial stability. However, wealth was not all Cleopatra
was known for. She exhibited high militant leadership skills equal to that of her male counterparts
to keep Egypt a prosperous country.
Despite Egypt s provincial annexation to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was intelligent, spoke nine or ten languages (Roberts 126). As a result, she would not need
interpreters when commanding. Rather she would be able to communicate directly.
Furthermore, another influence that determined Cleopatra s rule as queen stems from her lineage.
As has been discovered, the Ptolemies, the family Cleopatra belonged to, were not Egyptian.
Rather, they were Macedonian Greek. After Alexander the Great s death in 323 BCE, his empire
was divided among his generals (Harold, Anton, Duca, Henefin 28). Ptolemy Soler I claimed Egypt
and thus the Ptolemaic Dynasty flourished. However, it has been noted that during the reign of the
first three Ptolemaic Pharaohs had Egypt prospered (Harold, et. al 28). Thereafter, Cleopatra,
daughter to Ptolemy XII Auletes and possibly Cleopatra V Tryphaena of Egypt, inherited an Egypt
in decline (Harold, et al 28). It would be up to her to restore Egypt.
Yet, it was not until after the death of her father in 51 BCE that Cleopatra ascended to the throne
and married with her brother Ptolemy XIII, who was ten at the time. The marriage happened as per
Egyptian custom and as instructed in her father s will (Roberts 126). Although Cleopatra was
married to her brother, a male with inherent power in the Egyptian culture, he was kept firmly in the
background (Roberts 126). With the opportunity granted to her by her father s death, she made
decisions of state (Roberts 126). Unfortunately, Cleopatra taking over

The Tyrannical Stamp Act Of 1765
All of the American colonists considered themselves British to begin with. They lived by British
civility, relied on British support, and thought with a British mindset, in one way or another. Even
those that opposed the conservative, crown loving Tories, pulled their values and ideals from
British thought. These were the Whigs, who felt opposed to the King, power, tyranny, and slavery,
all in the name of liberty, virtue and direct representation.
For example, the tyrannical Stamp Act of 1765 elicited a truly Whig response. It is from this that
we have the saying, no taxation without representation. It did not make sense for this arbitrary
power over in England to make decisions for a land and people that they have no direct experience

Does Genetics Play A Part In Your Future
Do genetics play a part in your future? Personally, I think this is an absurd accusation. Saying
that your genetics play a part in your future, in my opinion, is a bit stereotypical. If genetics
played a part in your future, then all Asians would be good at math and be doctors in the future.
All Middle Eastern people would grow up to be terrorist. All African American s would only be
able to succeed in life if they could rap a lyric or dribble a ball . All Hispanics would only have a
future if they opened their own taco truck or lawn service. All of these stereotypical examples are
irrational and unrealistic. Your outcome depends upon your vision of your future, your intelligence,
your willingness to achieve what you want to attain and the strategic use of knowledge that is
gained throughout life. So, do I believe geneticsplay a part in someone s future? I think it s safe to
say I contradict that statement.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dbq Italian Cantata
JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH: CANTATA In the Seventeenth century a new style of composition
had its origin in Rome, Italy. This style is known as the cantata da camera or secular cantata. The

Note. From U.S. Electoral College 2000 Presidential Election. Delegate selection for the
Electoral College happens in a variety of ways. Each state decides how it selects its electors.
Currently, every state allows its electors to be chosen by popular vote. The political party
usually nominates electors at their state conventions or by a vote of the party s central
committee. Political parties select electors to recognize their service and dedication. These
electors are state elected officials, party leaders, or people with a personal or political affiliation
with a candidate. Some states show the electors names on the ballot others do not. Voters should
research the process of selecting electors in their state and for their political party. Voters should
inform themselves on what their ballot format is before National Election Day. When we vote
for a pair of candidates on a ticket, we are selecting a group of electors to serve in the Electoral
College. There are many controversial arguments regarding the Electoral College. After the
controversy of the 2000 election, people across the country wanted to do away with the Electoral
College. Many people

Firstly, in Life of Pi and Death of a Salesman, Pi and Willy respectively search for hope of
survival and success that reality does not provide them through the creation of their own

Essay On The Fall Of The Western Roman Empire
Rome was once the most powerful empire of the Mediterranean. However, overtime Rome s
power started failing. The people became less interested in the affairs of the state, and the emperors
became less interested in the well being of the people. Overtime the infrastructure of Rome began
to fall apart because of the lack of connection between the people and the government which
ultimately lead to the many issues that occurred later on in the empire. Not only was the Roman
Empirefilled with internal problems, but it also suffered from a variety of external problems such
as invasions from different barbaric tribes. The fall of the Western Roman empire was caused by
Barbarian invasions, economic decline, and a corrupt government.
The most evident factor that led to Rome s downfall was invasion from Barbaric tribes. Rome
continued to conquer new lands and expand, but the people of Rome had lost the will to fight.
The lack of Roman citizens in the military forced government officials to hire foreigners to fight,
most of whom were Barbarians. This seemed like a logical idea, but little did the Romans know
that some of the Barbarians they trained in their military would cause destruction that Rome had
never before faced. As the Great Wall of China went up, dangerous tribes from the North were

Career Goals For My Career
Growing up, there were several different career paths I wanted to take but was not reachable at
the time. Throughout my high school my career goal was to be a civil or mechanical engineer.
At the time, it wasn t clear to me what an engineer s job function is. My family urged me to
pursue that dream just because of the perks that comes with it such as money. Math was never
my strong suit, neither was school and to become an engineer, several mathematics courses are
required. My first two years as a transfer student in college, I had no idea what my career path
should be if engineering doesn t work out. After taking careful consideration, working in the tech
industry was something that needed to be done. A few friends of mine gently pushed me in that
direction, but my vision to pursue a career in tech was a bit fuzzy. Eventually I started leaning
towards business, but by then it was already too late for me to switch majors. I chose Sociology
as my major because I found the courses interesting to learn, and it is something I can apply to
business. Earlier this semester, I decided to push towards specific fields such as sales or human
resources. Eventually, I do see myself in a leadershipposition at work such as a management
position in my workplace. I do believe I have what it takes to become a manager, but only after
being with a company for some time so I can understand the concepts and how to adapt to the given
environment.

The hero of this film is the father, Richard Hoover. his purpose for going on this journey is to
change. He has put his work life in front of his family, and through this his goal is to get closer to

abusive towards their family, one of the strongest members, and something is above their
family; for Jewel it is his horse, and as stated earlier, Richard it is his job (Typeset World). Sheryl
Hoover can be looked at as a shape shifter, in relation to her loving her husband, but then at times
be completely frustrated with him and wanting a divorce (Archetypes). She is most relatable to
Anse Bundren, the father of the Bundren s. Both of them are quite and can never stick with
their decisions. Both of them promised their family members, and also take their children on
their crazy journey. Looking at Olive Hoover, she would be considered the child since she is
innocent and completely unaware of her surrounding, like when Stan attempted to kill himself
(Character Archetypes). Olive is quite similar to the youngest Bundren, Vardaman. Both
children are innocent and are naive to what is going on in their lives. For example, Olive s
innocence is shown when she asks about Stan s bandages; she says, Why did you want to kill
yourself unaware of his situation (Little Miss Sunshine Script). This is similar to Vardaman
asking Why ain t I a town boy since he is not cognisant of the outside world (Faulkner 66). One of
the most closely related characters in Little Miss Sunshine and our archetypal model, As I Lay
Dying, is Grandpa Edwin Hoover and Addie Bundren. Both are a curse to their family in their
traveling (Typeset World). They would both be considered the world; they are showing the an

How Does Langston Hughes Use Literary Devices In Mother To...
Langston Hughes poem Mother to Son, written in 1922, tells the story of a young mother giving
important life lessons to her son. It conveys the struggles and hardships that the mother was forced
to endure throughout her life, while portraying her as a woman who never gave up hope and got
through the hard times. The strength and resilience she shows is a testament to the power of a
mothers love and willingness to do anything for their family. Hughes is able to portray this love and
emotion with the use of various literary elements, such as rhymes and metaphors. Throughout the
poem, Hughes used different literary devices to tell a story to those who are listening. From the

The entire poem encompasses the idea that the woman s life is never ending and has its rough
patches. Although it had tacks in it that may have tripped her up, she did not let those stand in
the way of where she wanted to go in life (3). The relationship between the staircase and a person
s life can be incredibly similar to one another. A staircase may have many different twists and
turns, broken boards, and run down patches that relate to a various events that happen
throughout life. Just because there is a hole in the stairs, or a death in a person s life, does not
mean that one should quit living or give up on everything that they have accomplished. There
may be setbacks that require time and love to heal, but there will always be hope to move on to
a better life. The mother insists that her son does not turn back and give up just because his life
has hit a hard spot. She never gave up hope, and she insists that he does the same. The metaphor
of the staircase to one s life, can easily relate to anyone in the world. There will always be rough
patches and hard times, but everyone gets through them, and they are usually stronger in the end
because of it. Life may not be an easy task, but we must learn how to survive and thrive whatever

Essay on Vietnamese Americans
Abstract
The following paper will discuss Vietnamese Americans and their journey to America. I will talk
about how these incredible and resilient people fought to succeed it a world that seemed to hold the
odds against them. The culture, beliefs, and challenges of Vietnamese people are a precise
paradigm of their strength and perseverance.
Unfortunately, Vietnamese Americans make up only a small percent of the total American
Population today. There are many stereotypes associated with the Vietnamese, but the truth is, we
really know very little about their culture. After the Viet Nam War, many Vietnamese citizens
immigrated to the United States to escape political Prosecution and poverty. Faced with a variety of

The act was implemented in 1989 and called The Vietnamese Amerasian Homecoming Act.
Amerasian is a term used to describe children of Vietnamese mothers and American fathers (or vice
versa). Enabling approximately 25,000 Amerasian children into the country with their immediate
families, the act allowed over 77,000 Vietnamese immigrants into the United States. Overall,
between 1981 and 2000, over 531,000 Vietnamese citizens, voluntarily immigrated to the United
States and were accepted. Although the United States progressively allowed more Vietnamese
immigrants into the country, if there were never limits to the number of legal refuges, tens of
thousands of lives may have been spared.
Currently, the United States continues to limit the number of immigrants permitted to enter the
country. Politicians are even trying to upgrade the charge to a felony offense if immigrants are
caught entering the United Sates illegally. The interesting part of this phenomenon is that the only
people who are native to America are the Native American Indians. Other than that, everyone s
family had immigrated to America at some point. Having said that, maybe we should be more
forthcoming when trying to pass a law by stating that now, since our family is already here, we
should start to limit the number of new immigrants that enter. I find the hypocrisy of our
government to somewhat overwhelming.
At this point, the American people

Nazi Germany And Its Detrimental Effects On The Social...
When looking into the history of Germany and determining what led to the startling rise in
Nazism in Germany and its detrimental effects on the social outcasts in Europe, it can be easy to
deduce that the Nazi regime was one where Hitler walked in with his officials and took office by
force. The truth is that, while the Nazi partyis responsible for the atrocities that occurred before
and during WWII, they would have not gotten far if it hadn t been for the cooperation of the
German people themselves. Life in the Third Reich provides proof through voting, youth programs
and village life that the Nazi party rose into power with German support. In Village Life in Nazi
Germany, essayist Gerhard Wilke discusses the rise of Nazismin the small village of Korle,
discussing how with the rapid political changes in Germany from an empire to a democratic
nation also affected the power balances of small villages. Despite the efforts of the older
generations to keep some sort of semblance of the old traditions, it was their children who wanted
change and found themselves attracted to Nazism and formed the first local branch of the party in
1928. The reason for this, Wilke says is that they wanted radical solutions to three existential and
ideological problems: the survival of their generation as independent farmer, the preservation of
their political dominance, and the suppression of their enemies (The Jews and the working class).
And the youth of villages came together in

Viele, P. (2012). Information fluency: Where to start. The Physics Teacher, 50(6), 379 380.
doi:10.1119/1.4745701
Summary: According to Viele (2012), she states that when it comes to information literacy, there
seems to be an abundance of definitions. The most concise and all encompassing meaning is that
information fluency is a set of skills necessitating individuals to be able to distinguish when and
what actual information is needed. The author states that an individual should be capable to
effectively locate, evaluate, and use the needed information in making informed decisions that are
invaluable throughout life. In any situation whether it be preparing a presentation for class, a
poster, or writing a report, these steps should be completed in an ethical manner. In the article, the
author breaks down each of the information fluency skills in component parts. She also provides
explanations of how to do each with online tutorials links, helpful websites, and examples for
reference of good places to start when making sure that each skill is preformed effectively.
Critique: Retired as a physics and astronomy librarian at Cornell University, Patricia Viele, has
worked with Cornell faculty, students and numerous K 12 teachers for many years. The article
focused on good starting places of

Continuity In Baroque
In baroque music, continuity is highly emphasized and evident in the rhythm and melody of a
piece. Rhythmic patterns as well as the melody are repeated and constant. This continuity of rhythm
and melody is the continuity of dynamics in which the level of volume is constant and when the
dynamic shifts, the shift is often very sudden and abrupt forming a clear break from the continuity.
The baroqueperiod can be divided into three phrases that are early (1600 1640), middle (1640 1690)
and late (1690 1750).
In early baroque phrase, composers expressed extreme emotions, Monteverdi was representative
who expressed passion and dramatic contrast in his work. And at this phrase, lots of composers used
homophonic texture because they thought using

Violent Drug Crimes
Peter Wagner, executive director of the Policy Reform Initiative, stated on March 14, 2017, that
nonviolent drug convictions are a defining characteristic of the federal prison systems but play
only a supporting role at the state and local levels. Since the official beginning of the War on
Drugs in 1982, the number of people incarcerated for drug offenses in the U.S. skyrocketed from
40,900 in 1980 to 469,545 in 2015. Since it is common knowledge that racism is very much still
prevalent in today s society, I will forgo the argument of racial disparities concerning those
convicted for drug crimes or any crime, for the statistics speak for themselves.

As apparent in their 2017 Criminal Justice Fact Sheet, the NAACP stated that nationwide, African
American children represent 32% of children who are arrested, 42% of children who are
detained, and 52% of children whose cases are judicially waived to criminal court. Racial
profiling in the treatment toward the younger generation is one of the driving causes of the
future effects we see happen. For example, these group of young adolescents that are targeted
because of their skin color have to face a myriad of unnecessary obstacles in the aftermath such
as not being able to complete their education, not being able to find a job much less a career, and
not being able to be a part of society. These often hinder their success as individuals and ultimately
is detrimental to our society as a whole.
Based off of data gathered by the U.S. Department of Justice, if current trends continue, one of
every three black males born today will go to prison in his lifetime, as will one of every six Latino
males. As for white people, those who have long sentences only have long, harsh sentences
because the particular crimes they commit are perceived as a black crime. (Ted Chiricos, Kelly
Welch Marc Gertz, Racial Typification of Crime and Support for Punitive Measures, 42

Essay On The Higher The Better
The Higher the Better In Mexico City, 1986, with two scratches and only one attempt left Bob
Beamon raced down the track, beginning a jump that would have worldwide repercussions for
the next thirty years (ESPN). Bob Beamon, running more like a sprinting ostrich than a gazelle
jumped out of the sandpit, setting a personal best by over two feet and a new world record
(Daniels). The jump was so far, and so unexpected that the officials only extend the sandpit to the
previous world record and used a measuring unit to match. This new world record set by Bob
Beamon was just one of many new world records set in the Olympic gamesof 1986. In this historic

There is no question that there are helpful and harmful attributes to elevation. The argument is
whether these effects are enough to cause an unfair advantage and are they dangerous enough to
warrant a rule to be made about it. There are many things that come into question when
addressing the affects elevation has on athletes such as: the effects of air resistance, air density,
low oxygen levels, and a weaker gravitational pull (Ward Smith). When people think of elevation
most people think of in the mountains or thousands of feet in the air. That is not the case. All of
these handicaps and issues can affect athletic events that are held in heights as low as one
thousand five hundred feet. At this altitude there is approximately 16% less oxygen in the air
(Altitude). At first glance this does not seem like a big difference but when a highly trained
athlete is competing this can be the difference between a loss or a win. Another measurement of
oxygen intake at elevation is the study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology in 1996,
trained and untrained cyclists were asked to undergo a Vo2max test, Vo2max is the rate of oxygen
consumed during the exercise test, at while at sea level and again at five hundred and eighty
meters. The result: the effects were negligible in the untrained group, but in the trained group
VO2max dropped by an average of 6.8% due to a fall in arterial oxygen saturation (Runner s
Connect). If a hypothetical athlete is at one hundred

The Controversy Of Embryonic Stem Cells
For decades, researchers use of stem cells has caused a controversy and the consideration of the
ethics of research involving the development, usage, and destruction of human embryos. Most
commonly, this controversy focuses on embryonic stem cells. Not all stem cell research
involves the creation, usage and destruction of human embryos. For example, adult stem cells,
amniotic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells do not involve creating, using or
destroying human embryos and thus are minimally, if at all, controversial. Many less
controversial sources of acquiring stem cells include using cells from the umbilical cord, breast
milk, and bone marrow. (Brunt, 2012) In 1998, scientists discovered how to extract stem cells
from human embryos. This discovery led to moral ethics questions concerning research
involving embryo cells, such as what restrictions should be made on studies using these types of
cells? At what point does one consider life to begin? Is it just to destroy an embryo cell if it has
the potential to cure countless numbers of patients? Political leaders are debating how to regulate
and fund research studies that involve the techniques used to remove the embryo cells. No clear
consensus has emerged. Other recent discoveries may extinguish the need for embryonic stem
cells. With this in mind, we will discover both sides of the issue from a pros and cons point of
view. Stem cellresearch has expanded at an exponential rate, but its therapeutic

Taking a Look at Manipulative Advertising
The meaning of advertising is the act or practice of calling public attention to one s product,
service, need, etc (cited in Collins English Dictionary). It has various forms such as televisions,
newspapers, magazines, radios, mobiles, books, mailboxes, and through the networks. Advertising
has become a part of our daily lives, and it affects our way of life because advertisements are
everywhere: in the streets, supermarkets, shops and malls. In fact, advertisingis one of the most
influential marketing methods on consumers in the commercial field. It is also an important source
of information before buying any product. However, advertising has become a way for traders to
manipulate the consumers, and that has a lot of risks on the individual and the community.
Advertising industry should grow for the need of informing the consumers about the products not to
deceive then by marketing tricks. Nowadays, advertising targets consumers to manipulate them
more than informing them with the needed facts about what they buy because it is achieved by
marketing fallacies and tricks and it causes many troubles in the community.
It has been argued that the reason for using manipulation rather than the information in the
advertising world is to achieve the financial purposes in trade. The interests and commercial
ambitions are good ways to use manipulation in the exploitation of consumers by traders. One of
these goals is profit. Corporate business profitability always seeks the best

Essay On Monotheistic Religion
Religions of Monotheistic Tradition In scrutinizing the religions that hold the monotheistic
tradition, similarities and differences can be found. The monotheistic religions include Islam,
Judaism, and Christianity. This essay will address commonalities and dissimilarities looking at four
main concepts.
1.Ultimate Reality
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary Ultimate Reality is, something that is the supreme,
final, and a fundamental power in all reality ( Ultimate Reality ). Even though they have similar
literature with some of the same prophets and the shared belief in one God, the differences in these
religions are quite evident. Christians differ in the belief of the Trinity which is God, Jesus, and the
Holy Spirit in one. Islam and Judaism reject this idea of the Ultimate Reality. For Jewish
followers they are waiting for the Messiah and their supreme power or Ultimate Reality is God
alone and the laws he gave to Moses which they closely follow. Islamic followers believe in Allah
as their one true God and Muhammed (a prophet) as his messenger (Molloy 280 466).
2.Human Beings
Islam, Christianity, and Judaism believe they are all created by God and part of a divine plan. This
includes struggling between good and evil forces. They all believe in doing God s will. In
Christianity this is done by modeling Jesus in life, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Catholics kneel, stand, and sit during mass. Jewish followers may recite long
passages of the Torah from memory and adhere strictly to the Sabbath. The actual meaning of
being religious for all of these faiths appears to be the same. They try to live in a way that honors
God s will and holds up a moral code (whether it comes from the Torah, Bible, or the Qur an). The
overall concept of being religious in these faiths gives hope and an answer to the purpose of life

Metabolic Alkalosis Lab Report
Metabolic alkalosis is a primary increase in serum bicarbonate (HCO3 ) concentration. This
occurs as a consequence of a loss of H+ from the body or a gain in HCO3 . In its pure form, it
manifests as alkalemia (pH 7.40). As a compensatory mechanism, metabolic alkalosis leads to
alveolar hypoventilation with a rise in arterial carbon dioxidetension (PaCO2), which diminishes
the change in pH that would otherwise occur.
Normally, arterial PaCO2 increases by 0.5 0.7 mm Hg for every 1 mEq/L increase in plasma
bicarbonate concentration, a compensatory response that is very quick. If the change in PaCO2 is
not within this range, then a mixed acid base disturbance occurs. For example, if the increase in
PaCO2 is more than 0.7 times the increase in bicarbonate, then metabolic alkalosis coexists with
primary respiratory acidosis. Likewise, if the increase in PaCO2 is less than the expected change,
then a primary respiratory alkalosis is also present. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remember that an elevated serum bicarbonate concentration may also be observed as a
compensatory response to primary respiratory acidosis. However, a bicarbonate concentration
greater than 35 mEq/L is almost always caused by metabolic alkalosis.
Metabolic alkalosis is diagnosed by measuring serum electrolytes and arterial blood gases. If the
etiology of metabolic alkalosis is not clear from the clinical history and physical examination,
including drug use and the presence of hypertension, then a urine chloride ion concentration can be
obtained. Calculation of the serum anion gap may also help to differentiate between primary
metabolic alkalosis and metabolic compensation for respiratory acidosis. (See

government and the only solution to this problem is if the people rise up together. I chose this

The Kojiki Myths
The Kojiki myths serve to legitimize the Yamato rulers by articulating the family relationship
between the Yamato rulers and ancient deities and the creation of the primitive Japanese Island.
Illustrated in the myth, Japanese imperial family is actually the descendant of gods, Izanami and
Izanagi, who create the islands of Japan. Since deities use supernatural power to bring Japanese
islands into existence and gods have reigned the area for such a long time, it is natural for
Japanese to accept that the Yamato rulers, the offsprings of gods with magical power, have
undeniable reasons to reign over Japan. The Man yoshu poems, on the other hand, are written to
praise the supernatural power of Yamato emperors and to express the collective reverence

Social Influences On Social And Cultural Context
In todays society, you can not turn on the tv or radio without hearing some type of denigrating
remark. Unfortunately its the cause of all the social norms. Our nation has been brainwashed by so
many factors. Such as tv, radio, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. This topic reminds me a lot of a

perfectly with what is going on in the world today, and this topic.

Young Jim Hawkins had some dragons to slay of his own. Throughout the journey he has to
endure the shenanigans of the pirates. He hears about the mutiny that was going to rise, and the
fights back against them. He uses his wits to avoid being captured, and has to fear for his life.
When aboard the ship he is attacked and is almost murdered by Israel Hands, but he kills him in
self defense. He warns, One more step, Mr. Hands, said I, and I ll blow your brains out! Dead
men don t bite, you know, (113). He does not regret killing him, he knew that Israel Hands was a
diseased man. He would have killed Jim just as he killed one of his shipmates. This endeavor
changed him into a more rugged and hardened person. Not only is he changed from the killing of
Hands, but from the journey itself. He experienced the adventure of sailing, but also witnessed the
rotten life of a pirate. Once he returned he had no interest for any more adventures or treasure.
Although the story is told through the eyes of Jim Hawkins, the story is more about the adventure.

Everyman As A Morality Play
Everyman is regarded as a morality play that was written in late 15th century. According to
Michael A. Babcock, author of the story of Western culture, Morality plays can be explained in
best ways because of allegories figure out efforts made between seven virtues and seven vices
contained in heart of man . The play is a picture of what Christians should do or how they should
spend their lives to save their souls from being convicted by death (Yaw Adu Gyamfi P.265). The
understanding of death in Everyman play is influenced by how people live their lives. The play
brings out an idea of how people struggle to choose between worldly things and the ultimate
spiritual judgment. The conflict between riches, relationship and the spiritual enrichment, heaven
and hell and God s verdict seems to be on the rise in the play. Babcock also states, Everyman is a
struggle between good and evil, between seven virtues as well as seven vices . (167). we see how
life is a transitory, when the play documents Everyman s journey from sinful life to sinfree life and
finally to a holy death.
Everyman tries to talk to his friends to accompany him on the long journey, but they abandon
him in time of need. In fact, Fellowship responds to Everyman by saying, Whether ye have loved
me or no, by Saint John, I will not with thee go (Line 287). Even a close cousin also not willing to

Theory
Soon after the term gentrification was conceived, scholars began to develop and debate its
theoretical foundation. Neil Smith and David Ley engaged in one of the more important theoretical
debates about the causal factors of gentrification. Neil Smith s rent gap theory frames gentrification
in economic terms. Essentially the rent gap theory is based on the classic economic law of supply
and demand (Smith, 1979). According to Smith when there is a disparity between income collected
from rent and the potential achievable rental income, investors will seek to renovate and increase
rent (Smith, 1979). Ley rejects Smith s claim that gentrification is caused only by the changing
housing market and presented his own theory which places societal needs as the driving force

cause more issues with staff at the hospital. They think Ron will cause division and a lack of
teamwork within the cardiology departments. This problem conflicts with the Mitchell Memorials
mission statement, which emphasizes the importance of a good environment for teamwork.
Hypothesis 1: It may be that Ron has an egotistical and abrasive personality that makes him feel

If Ron would increase his emotional intelligence and his personal competence he would be able to

Hypothesis 2: Ron may have been focused on the task that Prescott gave him, which was to increase
revenues and strengthen the vascular surgery department.
Ron s personality and traits make him very goal oriented. When he came into Mitchell Memorial
his task from Prescott was to build the vascular surgery department and increase revenues. Ron
did not think he had the time to get everyone on board, so he thought they should just fall in line
with his surgical and leadership style. Instead of getting to know everyone and their styles of
operation, Ron dove right into his task and stayed focused. Ron is an Alpha Type, which means
he has a need for power. That is the main reason he took the job at Mitchell Memorial, he wanted
the chief of vascular surgery title. Ron s egocentric thinking made him believe that he could
manage, even if everyone was not on board with his leadership/teaching style. Many residents and
surgical interns have left his program, because they feel he demeans them in the way he speaks to
them. This, in turn, has led to a lack of communication and teamwork in the cardiology and

Video Music Personal Statement
Personal Statement
As an aspiring film and game music scorer, I wish to study in an environment where I could meet
like minded students. Ever since I was young, I had affection for video games as well as video
game soundtracks. I find it fascinating that music can play an integral role in bringing the players
into a world of its own, putting me into the shoes of the characters themselves. This source of
connection creates alternate universes for the audience is something that makes me greatly admire
the composers and creators of video games.
UCLA has one of the best film and videogame scoring programs in the world, and I wish to be
part of that. I understand as an undergraduate I am not able to apply for the Film Scoring
Certificate, but while I am studying at UCLA, I will be able to interact with students in that
program and attend events that they host to get a glimpse of what the actual film and game
industry is like. I also intend to join student organizations that are dedicated to recording and sound
design. I believe that film and game composers also need to be knowledgeable in audio
engineering in order to succeed in their projects. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have played piano since the age of 8 and played many classical pieces. However, because I
favored video game, film music, and Romantic Era classical pieces, I have been inattentive towards
the classical, baroque, and 20th century era techniques. Now, I finally understand the beauty of
each genre of music and started using other methods such as sonatas, invention, fugues, cell group,
12 tone serialism, and orchestration in my compositions. Studying and learning new techniques on
my own, however, makes me feel like there is a gigantic gate that I cannot open because I do not
have the adequate materials and instruction. This made me realize that I to go to school to further

Agile Methodologies For Software Development
Agile Methodologies for Software Development
Introduction:
In agile development model, the development of software is in incremental, rapid cycles. It is
building new features on previous functionality with each small incremental release. The software
quality is maintained by rigorously testing each release. It is useful for time critical applications.
The most well known current agile development life cycle model is Extreme Programming (XP).
Why Agile model:
The freedom that agile gives when new changes are needed to be implemented is very important.
New changes can be implemented at very little cost because of the incremental releases. Even late
changes in requirements are welcomed
Unlike the waterfall model in agile model very limited planning is required to get started with the
project. Agile assumes that the end users needs are ever changing in a dynamic business and IT
world. Changes can be discussed and features can be newly effected or removed based on
feedback. This effectively gives the customer the finished system they want or need. Face to face
conversation is the best form of communication.
In order to implement a new feature the developers need to lose only the work of a few days, or
even only hours, to roll back and implement it. Close, daily cooperation between business people
and developers. Regular adaptation to changing circumstances.
There is customer satisfaction by rapid, continuous delivery of useful software.
People and interactions are

Double Indemnity by Billy Wilder
Billy Wilder s Double Indemnity is one of the best representatives of the film noir era in
Hollywood as it contains all the main characteristics of the genre. The general darkness present
throughout the movie is embodied in the plot which reveals the moral bankruptcy of the main
characters. It is also present in the mise en scene choices such as the dark costumes and modest
lighting with the great emphasis on shadows. The main characters voice over, another important film
noircharacteristic, brings this darkness to life and communicates it to the audience with brutal
honesty. One of the scenes of the film which contains all of these features is the one where the two
main characters, Neff and Phyllis, meet for the first time. This scene will be analysed with respect
to the main film noir elements and techniques that were used in the making of it.
This scene introduces the femme fatale character Phyllis Dietrichson and starts a relationship
between her and Neff a relationship which sets out the plot for rest of the film. The scene focuses
on Phyllis use of sexual appeal to gain control over Neff and try to use him to fulfil her twisted of
murdering her husband. Wilder uses several filming elements characteristic to film noir in the scene
in order to display the nature of Neff and Phyllis relationship from the very moment they met.
The scene starts with a bright shot set outdoors as Neff is heading to Mr. Dietrichson s house a shot
uncharacteristic to film noir

Chinese Immigrants
My research experience so far has been quite smooth, I have been able to read and uncover a
variety of sources that contain valuable information about the Chinese immigrants of the late
1800s. More importantly, the sources that I have found are all different; some of my sources are
articles, others are flyers, and I even found political cartoons. Learning form a diverse selection of
sources has allowed to learn about the situation through different lenses. I have not experienced any
frustration through my research, but I am slightly annoyed at the lack of memorial and
remembrance for a massive part of U.S. history, especially due to the inhumane treatment of a large
groups of people. Toronto has a significantly large memorial for the Chinese

Themes Depicted in the Play Summer of the Seventeenth...
Summer Of The Seventeenth Doll is a timeless play as it can be transposed to be as relevant today
as when it was written. The play is definitely a tragi comedy but more than the ideas raised in the
statement the play is about change and the inability for some to deal with it, the battle between
dreamand reality and loyalty and mateship. It also serves as a social document of Australia in the
1950s. Lawler uses symbols, the actions of the characters, the structure of the playand mise en scene
to effectively portray his feelings to the audience.
The main theme expressed in the play is change and the characters inability to cope with this. Like
many working class people from this time the characters in the play are fairly uneducated ... Show

She embraced the change that was happening and Olive mistakes this for treachery. The
downfall of the characters (especially Olive) really is rather tragic. In the final scene Roo
accepts that change as much as he does not want it must happen, he asks Olive to marry him.
Her dreams are now shattered and she sees Roo as the one who has taken them from her; I want
what I had before. You give it back to me give me back what you ve taken. (Pg. 93) Change is
inevitable and a person has to learn that the same pattern of living cannot serve them feasibly
forever.
Summer Of The Seventeenth Doll a battle between dreams and reality. The characters are living
in a dream world where everything for them is perfect. This, of course, is until Pearl comes
along and sees through the thin façade of their existence; Glamorous nights! (Pg. 57) she
scoffs at their seemingly pathetic excuse for a New Years Eve party. She is the classic realist in
the play, as is Emma, and brings reality to the characters lives. These two also create an
exceptional contrast and help to magnify Olive s illusions. Olive s dream of living a carefree
life forever is shattered when she is brought down to a reality which she refuses to accept; the lay
off season is not what it once was, and Roo is no longer the Aussie hero she thought him to be.
His dream is to always be top dog in the cane

A Sociological Look at JAWS Essay
A Sociological Look at JAWS The movie I choose to review was Jaws, which is one of my
favorites and a timeless classic. A traditional story about man against beast takes place on an island
that depends on its summer tourist business. When the summer season in threatened by a series of
shark attacks three men are sent out to track down a great white shark.
The three main (human) characters are Brody (Roy Scheider), the police chief, who came to the
island from New York looking, so he thought, for a change from the fears of the city. There s
Quint (Robert Shaw), a caricature of the crusty old seafaring salt, who has a very personal reason
for hating sharks. And there s Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss), the rich kid turned ... Show more content

Down at the docks someone does manage I to reel in an impressive sized tiger shark. While
everyone is giving out pats on the back Hooper is the one that finds out that the wrong shark has
been caught. He states that while this species has attacked humans and is foreign to these waters
the bite radius doesn t match up to the first victim.
Being an outsider no one is inclined to listen to Hooper. To proven his point Hooper and Brody
sneak down to the docks to cut open the shark. Among many strange findings none are human
remains. This piques Hooper s curiosity and he drags Brody (who is afraid of boats and water)
out on his boat to see what they can find in the waters surrounding the island. They come across a
boat wreck and upon closer inspection they discover that the wreck is the work of the sought after
shark.
With the evidence they ve uncovered Hooper and Brody go to the Mayor and demand he shut
down the beaches. With no physical evidence that the wrong shark has been caught the Mayor
decides to open the beaches for the 4th of July.
The 4th of July is a bright and sunny day but no one is going in the water. The Mayor, fearing the
worst, coaxes on of his friends to make the first move and go for a swim. In no time everyone is in

The Birth Of Moses Moses
Moses
Question 1
Exodus 2:1 10 The birth of Moses
Moses was born to two Levites. His mother hid him for three months as the pharaoh was killing
all the Hebrew s children. When she couldn t hid him she made a basket, put him in it, and floated
it down the river. The pharaoh s daughter found the baby and took pity on it. She nurtured the baby
and took it as her own.
Exodus 3:1 4:17 God speaks to Moses through the burning bush
Moses was herding is Father in law s flock and took it past the wilderness. A bush was set alight
and was not being consumed. Moses went to look at this bush and God called out to him. Moses
took of his sandals and hid his face from God as he was scared of him. God tells Moses he must go
into Egypt and free the Israelite slaves. God proceeds to tell Moses to tell the Israelites he was sent
by The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of
Jacob.
Moses question the Lord on how he would prove that he was indeed sent by the Lord. God told
Moses to throw his staff on the ground, the staff turned into a snake. He then told Moses to pick
up the snake by the tail, the snake turned back into a staff. God then gave Moses two more ways
to prove he really was sent by God. One of them was to put his hand into his cloak and take it out
again. Once he did this his hand turn leprous and when he put it back into and out of his cloak it
went back to normal. The other proof was to pour a bucket of Nile river water into

Stella Artois Essay
The Global Branding of Interbrew and Stella Artois
One of the largest brewers in the world, Interbrew grew rapidly in the 1990s from its home market
in Belgium to a global presence in markets around the world. As this essay will demonstrate,
Interbrew s global strategy of consolidation and market penetration has been balanced between a
respect for local autonomy and beer culture with efforts to adapt the flagship brand of Stella Artois
to these cultures. The global beer industry is highly fragmented, with the four major brewers
accounting for only 22 percent of the global beer trade; a number that is strikingly low in
comparison to comparable numbers of 78 percent in the soft drink industry, 60 percent in the
tobacco industry, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The creation of the Oland Speciality Beer Company within Labatt, for example, allowed
Interbrew to increase sales of Alexander Keith s brand and the John Labatt Classic Brand by
playing upon the richness, mystique and heritage of beer in the Canadian market (Beamish and
Goerzen 9). It is interesting to note, however, that this strategy was only successful in Canada. In
Belgium Interbrew s flagship brand Stella Artois has been suffering from declining sales for years
due to the public perception of its as being old fashioned . Thus, precisely the same quality has
diametrically opposed market sale consequences in North America and Belgium given the nature of
local culture. As noted above, a key element of Interbrew s global strategy has been to acquire
brewers and established brands in areas with significant growth potential, and then allow the
company administrators in that country considerable autonomy in the marketing of their brands
locally. Thus, for example, Interbrew purchased two breweries in Nanjing, China, and through
these purchases acquired their locally popular brands Yali and Jingling. This made Interbrew the
dominant market player in this large Chinese city, with possibility to serve as a platform for
expansion (Beamish and Goerzen 8). However, while respecting the business success of existing
brands and local

Japanese Anthropology Essay

On an ordinary Saturday afternoon, my sister and I made our way to 1st St. and Central Ave. from
a failed attempt at another left to be unnamed cultural epicenter, which was a very disappointing
trip. Little Tokyo proved to be quite the opposite, as I was able to ascertain a much deeper
understanding of the Japanese culture because of it, and at the same time was able to reflect on the
differences and similarities of my Filipino heritage. From what I was able to gather, the Japanese
and Filipino cultures have quite a few significant differences, but have more similarities than I
originally anticipated. As the name would suggest, Little Tokyo is fairly little, with its... Show more

Furthermore, along 2nd Street one can find a Pinkberry and Japanese tavern sharing close
proximity to one another, just one example of the comingled culture of Little Tokyo. We met many
friendly people during our visit, but had the most luck getting interviews while we were in the
shops and making small talk with the workers and customers. The predominant religion in Little
Tokyo is Buddhism, but sentiment varies widely depending on their connection to the Japanese
culture and their age. I was told that there were a handful of temples scattered throughout the area,
and according to an elderly female store owner many
people find it very important to observe the religious decrees and go every Sunday to meditate. A
younger Japanese woman who worked in one of the shops seemed to think otherwise, as she
expressed that nobody really follows the customs anymore, but certainly like to profess it. She
continued by saying, The only time we really care is during funerals , but during weddings they
are seen in churches wearing American style gowns, bearing a mark of Judeo Christian Western
ideology. Although Buddhism is widely recognized to be the major religion among the Japanese,
some of the smaller religions like Shinto and Christianity bring in a small following also, just not in
Little Tokyo. Strolling along the Plaza, I encountered a pleasant Japanese Americanstudent in her
mid 20s who had come all the way from Orange County. She told

Persia And Greece
Nowadays, technology may be considered the issue of tremendous consequence. It provides all
spheres of the life being as well as people throughout the planet with the possibility of permanent
development. However, the impact of technology may be also harmful and result in negative
outcomes in the long run. There are many historical examples of how civilizations, which had all
predispositions to successful development, ceased to exist under the influence of the technological
aspects. Ronald Wright states that one of the key debatable issues of the progress is dealing with
innovations. According to the scholar, innovations not only result in new opportunities but also in
problems, which were absent before the appearance of innovations. In case... Show more content on

Their achievements in the field of engineering, architecture, culture, and medicine are truly
enormous. Greece is also famous for its great philosophers, like Socrates and Plato, who
developed many theoretical issues, which are relevant even today. Darius the First is considered a
consolidator of the Persian Empire. He managed to develop a strong organizational structure of the
country, which lasted for nearly two hundred years. Xerxes, the son of Darius I, continued the
policy of his father. However, the unsuccessful wars with Greece had a significantly negative
impact on the further process of the development of Persia. An enormous amount of unrecoverable
resources, like timber, was used to build ships and maintain an army. After the death of Xerxes in
465 B.C., Persia did not have a strong ruler and, consequently, the process of decline started. From
the side of the possible impact of technology on the development of civilization, the situation in
Persia is controversial. Despite the fact the country had valuable mineral resources copper, tin,
silver, gold, and iron, people had limited knowledge concerning the peculiarities of minerals
extraction. Therefore, the utilization of the resources was also limited. The situation with
agriculture was unsuccessful. People at that time faced difficulties with generating the agricultural

The United Nations Targets For Ocean Sustainability
1. The United Nations targets for ocean sustainability are measurable when looking at 14.1,
14.2, 14.3, 14.4, 14.5 and 14.6. This is due to that fact that the United Nations is able to create a
base level in order to look at the major contributors to these issues this can be then simplified as
these contributors are the human population. For example, when look at target 14.3 which deals
with the eminent of fossil fuels, fossil fuels are cause by production run by humans. Allowing
humans to have control over how many fossil fuels they want to eminent on a daily basis. Another
example of a target that can be measurable is 14.4 as it deals with the issue of over fishing and the
use of fishstocks. This target is measurable as The United Nations is able to measure fish stocks
and will be able to measure them ten years from now to see if the laws put in place are positively
affecting our worlds oceans. They will be able to check the harvest growth pattern that the fish
stocks provide in order to catch illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. There are however
targets under The Unites Nations goal that are not measurable this can be seen when looking at
targets 14.7,14. a,14. b and 14.c. I believe that these goals are unable to be measured due to that
fact for example in 14.7 there is no quantification in dollars or percentages as it is looking at
economic benefits of developing states. When looking at the other targets they are to general and
have no specific goal (i.e. date)

As Old As Time Rosalind Quotes
In As Old as Time , Rosalind is Belle s mother. She was the enchantress who casted the curse
upon the prince to look like a beast. Rosalind and Maurice, Belle s parents, lived in a country
where once witches and wizards lived freely. However, normal people who aren t magical
discriminated against them. I think that some of Rosalind s strengths are selflessness, and
determination. However, she can be very stubborn sometimes, and that isn t always a good thing.
One year in the kingdom, a deadly fever broke out. Belle s parents decided to move away to a small
town where Belle would be safe. Rosalind was very reluctant on leaving her people at first. After
all, she was an enchantress so she wouldn t get the fever. She could have stayed and not worried
about her family s health, but she decided to not risk their health and safety. This shows that
Rosalind is very selfless and instead of staying in the country she knew and loved, she decided to

her offer. She warned him not to be deceived by looks, for true beauty was hidden within. He
again dismissed her, but before she left, she showed her true form to the prince. He tried to
apologize for not letting her stay, but it was too late. She had seen what type of person he truly
was. She casted a curse upon him, so that the people of her country wouldn t have to live under a

Comparing Science And Religion In Cat s Cradle
Live by the harmless untruths that make you brave and kind and healthy and happy (Kurt
Vonnegut, Cat s Cradle). Many people adhere to the idea that because something is true, it must
be in a sense good. Vonnegut often compares and contrasts science and religion in Cat s Cradle.
He defines religion as a form of creating lies, while he defines scienceas a form of discovering
truths. While religionis negatively depicted in the novel, the most severe criticisms are used for
science and the endless pursuit of truth. The world in Cat s Cradle is quite realistic in the sense
that truth, in the form of discoveries such as the atomic bomb and Ice 9, is used for personal gain
with little regard for the effects of these truths of humanity. The theme I chose for Cat s Cradle is
that just... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book Felix Hoenikker creates the atom bomb that was dropped on Japan. He created this
in search of the truth, he did not care about the repercussions of such an invention. Ice 9 was
proposed by a general with no scientific background for an innocent purpose. Felix takes on this
challenge and creates Ice 9, the invention that destroys the world. An invention created for an
innocent purpose by a reckless scientist who did not think of a possible outcome that would
destroy the world. Just because you believe in something, does that make it true? If you get fed
lies that you believe, do the lies become truth, and if so are these lies good? The people of San
Lorenzo had terrible, poverty stricken lives that most people would say were not worth living.
Bokononism gave the people a reason to live, it was an exciting religion that gave them a
purpose in life. Bokononism was created by Bokonon for this purpose, and outlawed by McCabe
to make it more interesting for the people of the island so they adapt it. These are a few questions
that could be asked about truth and good and many of the ideas can relate to present day religious
beliefs and technological

  • 2. Conservatives In The Handmaid s Tale In the novel The Handmaid s Tale, Margaret Atwood depicts a near future world in which Christian theonomy has overthrown the United States Government, and all of the women s rights are taken from them. The novel is told from the perspective of a woman who is living in the new world and how she survives it, as well as how she ended up in this horrendous position. Atwood s novel has been read by millions of individuals throughout the years, leaving many with different perspectives on it. This critical response will examine how liberals and conservatives have interpreted the novel in different manners. Every person has their own interpretation of things, for example, liberals versus conservatives while reading this novel. Liberals could read this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is one of the few parts in the novel were conservatives and liberals would have the same perspective on, but for different reasons. Both conservatives and liberals would find this completely unacceptable and altogether distasteful. Conservatives would interpret this as something utterly horrible because the men are going out and being unfaithful to their wives and being a disgrace to the community. They would find it shameful that the eyes, spies around Gilead making sure everyone is following the rules, are not doing anything about this and are just letting the men get away with this distasteful act. Conservatives would point out the fact that Jezebels should not have been allowed in the first place. Anyone who rebels should either be executed or exiled. Liberals would also find this distasteful, mostly for the fact that men are being allowed to act out but women are not. Not to forget the fact that the Jezebels are looked down on by everyone who knows about them, but the highest ranking men going to visit them are not. The men are on the same level if not worse than the Jezebels, but everyone turns his or her heads at them and pretends nothing is happening. As always men are not held to the same standard as women are, causing the women to always be the ones getting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Roundworms have long, round bodies and unlike cnidarians or flatworms, have a digestive system that is like a tube, open at both ends. Segmented worms have long, round bodies made up of linked segments. Segmented worms also have a closed circulatory system. Earthworms, that we were learning in our lab are from phylum Annelida. • 5. Studying Islam Through International Students ... While Baton Rouge, cannot be considered a large city, it is home to a well sized state University. Considering the amenities that the school has access to and the ever rising demand for fluent English in workforces around the globe, it is not surprising there is a large international student population. My research took place among the Omani students here. I chose Islambecause I felt conducting fieldwork among a group that I had been acquainted with and had several connections with, would a good way to go about learning about a religion with which I was familiar on the most basic terms. I decided to study Islam through these international students experiences with food. I drew on my own past feelings and experiences when I had studied... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These dietary practices and attitudes affect even those who might not sure the same thoughts about food as someone. Even the very absence of it, fasting, has a huge impact on not only one s physical but also mental state. In Islam, it is used as an oppurtunity to remind oneself of the benevolence of Allah with the prayer Praise to Allah for feeding us, giving us to drink and making us Muslims. (Raman 2014: 967). For Muslims, fasting is the fourth of the Five Pillars. It is recommended to develop self control. During this month of Ramadan all adults are expected to fast from sunrise to sunset, except under special circumstances such as travelling, sickness, pregnancy, and the like. (Raman 2014: 970). Ramadan is also important for Ramadan strengthens religious discipline and encourages believers to remember the great days when Allah sent the Quran to all people of the world through the Prophet Muhammad.( NovakoviД‡ 2013:1992) Although Islam is one of the youngest of the world s major religions (the founder being born in 570 CE), it is already the second most popular religion in the world (second only to Christianity). • 6. Summary Of The Selfish Gene By Richard Dawkins In the book, The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins he elaborates on two very important phrases that he will share throughout the entire book. This book will show how both individual selfishness and individual altruism are explained by the fundamental law that I am calling gene selfishness. (6) I am sure we all know the word selfishness pretty well, but to some altruismmay be new. The way I view it is that if someone is altruistic, than they do things that benefit the good of the group, species, or simply, anyone but themselves. In this book we learn the difference in natural selection and how selfishness and altruism effect those things. Dawkins will mainly relate his matter to different types of animals and explain the biological changes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main idea of the book was somewhat interesting, but science has never been by favorite subject . But some things did pop out to me. This is a book about someone s theory of how animals and in way even hums are what they are. This is something that based on my religion can be debatable but i do fully understand where and why this information is stated. I do agree that humans should act, in way, similar to animals because i have noticed with just some of my observations that the growing process of these animals turn out to be marvelous creatures. I also know that humans are very selfish in many ways and do not always focus on the final result because they are to occupied focusing on the now and what they want now. If we were more like the altruistic behavioural species then we would definitely be a much more successful kind. For example, a long time ago humans became up with the word changing idea of electricity, factories, etc. then, it was the best thing to ever happen. Things got done people were happy live was fantastic. Although today this advances are not necessarily helpful as helpful to us. Of course i do know we would be nothing without them, but we are also suffering very much with global warming and smog, etc.but way back when we didn t even think about all this. This is a harsh example but in smaller portions, according to The Selfish Gene, animals would plan this out better because they look at the good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. A Look into Cleopatra’s Early Life Influences For Rome, who had never condescended to fear any nation or people, did in her time fear two human beings; one was Hannibal, and the other was a woman (Lefkowitz and Fant 126). During a time dominated by male rulers, Cleopatra VII Philopator (69 BCE 31 BCE), the Last Pharaoh of Egypt, stood out among them all. With Egypt s wealth at her disposal, she was incomparably richer than anyone else (Schiff 2). The amount of power a ruler had at the time of Cleopatra s existence depended highly on the level of financial stability. However, wealth was not all Cleopatra was known for. She exhibited high militant leadership skills equal to that of her male counterparts to keep Egypt a prosperous country. Despite Egypt s provincial annexation to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was intelligent, spoke nine or ten languages (Roberts 126). As a result, she would not need interpreters when commanding. Rather she would be able to communicate directly. Furthermore, another influence that determined Cleopatra s rule as queen stems from her lineage. As has been discovered, the Ptolemies, the family Cleopatra belonged to, were not Egyptian. Rather, they were Macedonian Greek. After Alexander the Great s death in 323 BCE, his empire was divided among his generals (Harold, Anton, Duca, Henefin 28). Ptolemy Soler I claimed Egypt and thus the Ptolemaic Dynasty flourished. However, it has been noted that during the reign of the first three Ptolemaic Pharaohs had Egypt prospered (Harold, et. al 28). Thereafter, Cleopatra, daughter to Ptolemy XII Auletes and possibly Cleopatra V Tryphaena of Egypt, inherited an Egypt in decline (Harold, et al 28). It would be up to her to restore Egypt. Yet, it was not until after the death of her father in 51 BCE that Cleopatra ascended to the throne and married with her brother Ptolemy XIII, who was ten at the time. The marriage happened as per Egyptian custom and as instructed in her father s will (Roberts 126). Although Cleopatra was married to her brother, a male with inherent power in the Egyptian culture, he was kept firmly in the background (Roberts 126). With the opportunity granted to her by her father s death, she made decisions of state (Roberts 126). Unfortunately, Cleopatra taking over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Tyrannical Stamp Act Of 1765 All of the American colonists considered themselves British to begin with. They lived by British civility, relied on British support, and thought with a British mindset, in one way or another. Even those that opposed the conservative, crown loving Tories, pulled their values and ideals from British thought. These were the Whigs, who felt opposed to the King, power, tyranny, and slavery, all in the name of liberty, virtue and direct representation. For example, the tyrannical Stamp Act of 1765 elicited a truly Whig response. It is from this that we have the saying, no taxation without representation. • 10. Does Genetics Play A Part In Your Future Do genetics play a part in your future? Personally, I think this is an absurd accusation. Saying that your genetics play a part in your future, in my opinion, is a bit stereotypical. If genetics played a part in your future, then all Asians would be good at math and be doctors in the future. All Middle Eastern people would grow up to be terrorist. All African American s would only be able to succeed in life if they could rap a lyric or dribble a ball . All Hispanics would only have a future if they opened their own taco truck or lawn service. All of these stereotypical examples are irrational and unrealistic. Your outcome depends upon your vision of your future, your intelligence, your willingness to achieve what you want to attain and the strategic use of knowledge that is gained throughout life. Each state decides how it selects its electors. Currently, every state allows its electors to be chosen by popular vote. The political party usually nominates electors at their state conventions or by a vote of the party s central committee. Political parties select electors to recognize their service and dedication. These electors are state elected officials, party leaders, or people with a personal or political affiliation with a candidate. Some states show the electors names on the ballot others do not. Voters should research the process of selecting electors in their state and for their political party. Voters should inform themselves on what their ballot format is before National Election Day. Ironically though Pi is fearful of Richard Parker, he grows to realize that it put him at ease and gives him hope to fight through the various hardships at sea, It is the irony of this story that the one who scared me witless to start with was the very same who brought me peace, purpose. I dare say even wholeness (Martel 179). • 15. Essay On The Fall Of The Western Roman Empire Rome was once the most powerful empire of the Mediterranean. However, overtime Rome s power started failing. The people became less interested in the affairs of the state, and the emperors became less interested in the well being of the people. Overtime the infrastructure of Rome began to fall apart because of the lack of connection between the people and the government which ultimately lead to the many issues that occurred later on in the empire. Not only was the Roman Empirefilled with internal problems, but it also suffered from a variety of external problems such as invasions from different barbaric tribes. The fall of the Western Roman empire was caused by Barbarian invasions, economic decline, and a corrupt government. The most evident factor that led to Rome s downfall was invasion from Barbaric tribes. Rome continued to conquer new lands and expand, but the people of Rome had lost the will to fight. The lack of Roman citizens in the military forced government officials to hire foreigners to fight, most of whom were Barbarians. This seemed like a logical idea, but little did the Romans know that some of the Barbarians they trained in their military would cause destruction that Rome had never before faced. Throughout my high school my career goal was to be a civil or mechanical engineer. At the time, it wasn t clear to me what an engineer s job function is. My family urged me to pursue that dream just because of the perks that comes with it such as money. Math was never my strong suit, neither was school and to become an engineer, several mathematics courses are required. My first two years as a transfer student in college, I had no idea what my career path should be if engineering doesn t work out. After taking careful consideration, working in the tech industry was something that needed to be done. A few friends of mine gently pushed me in that direction, but my vision to pursue a career in tech was a bit fuzzy. Eventually I started leaning towards business, but by then it was already too late for me to switch majors. I chose Sociology as my major because I found the courses interesting to learn, and it is something I can apply to business. Earlier this semester, I decided to push towards specific fields such as sales or human resources. Eventually, I do see myself in a leadershipposition at work such as a management position in my workplace. When looking into the history of Germany and determining what led to the startling rise in Nazism in Germany and its detrimental effects on the social outcasts in Europe, it can be easy to deduce that the Nazi regime was one where Hitler walked in with his officials and took office by force. The truth is that, while the Nazi partyis responsible for the atrocities that occurred before and during WWII, they would have not gotten far if it hadn t been for the cooperation of the German people themselves. Life in the Third Reich provides proof through voting, youth programs and village life that the Nazi party rose into power with German support. In Village Life in Nazi Germany, essayist Gerhard Wilke discusses the rise of Nazismin the small village of Korle, discussing how with the rapid political changes in Germany from an empire to a democratic nation also affected the power balances of small villages. Despite the efforts of the older generations to keep some sort of semblance of the old traditions, it was their children who wanted change and found themselves attracted to Nazism and formed the first local branch of the party in 1928. The reason for this, Wilke says is that they wanted radical solutions to three existential and ideological problems: the survival of their generation as independent farmer, the preservation of their political dominance, and the suppression of their enemies (The Jews and the working class). There is no question that there are helpful and harmful attributes to elevation. The argument is whether these effects are enough to cause an unfair advantage and are they dangerous enough to warrant a rule to be made about it. There are many things that come into question when addressing the affects elevation has on athletes such as: the effects of air resistance, air density, low oxygen levels, and a weaker gravitational pull (Ward Smith). When people think of elevation most people think of in the mountains or thousands of feet in the air. That is not the case. All of these handicaps and issues can affect athletic events that are held in heights as low as one thousand five hundred feet. At this altitude there is approximately 16% less oxygen in the air (Altitude). At first glance this does not seem like a big difference but when a highly trained athlete is competing this can be the difference between a loss or a win. The Controversy Of Embryonic Stem Cells For decades, researchers use of stem cells has caused a controversy and the consideration of the ethics of research involving the development, usage, and destruction of human embryos. Most commonly, this controversy focuses on embryonic stem cells. Not all stem cell research involves the creation, usage and destruction of human embryos. For example, adult stem cells, amniotic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells do not involve creating, using or destroying human embryos and thus are minimally, if at all, controversial. Many less controversial sources of acquiring stem cells include using cells from the umbilical cord, breast milk, and bone marrow. (Brunt, 2012) In 1998, scientists discovered how to extract stem cells from human embryos. This discovery led to moral ethics questions concerning research involving embryo cells, such as what restrictions should be made on studies using these types of cells? At what point does one consider life to begin? Is it just to destroy an embryo cell if it has the potential to cure countless numbers of patients? Political leaders are debating how to regulate and fund research studies that involve the techniques used to remove the embryo cells. No clear consensus has emerged. Advertising has become a part of our daily lives, and it affects our way of life because advertisements are everywhere: in the streets, supermarkets, shops and malls. • 28. Metabolic Alkalosis Lab Report Metabolic alkalosis is a primary increase in serum bicarbonate (HCO3 ) concentration. This occurs as a consequence of a loss of H+ from the body or a gain in HCO3 . In its pure form, it manifests as alkalemia (pH 7.40). As a compensatory mechanism, metabolic alkalosis leads to alveolar hypoventilation with a rise in arterial carbon dioxidetension (PaCO2), which diminishes the change in pH that would otherwise occur. Normally, arterial PaCO2 increases by 0.5 0.7 mm Hg for every 1 mEq/L increase in plasma bicarbonate concentration, a compensatory response that is very quick. If the change in PaCO2 is not within this range, then a mixed acid base disturbance occurs. For example, if the increase in PaCO2 is more than 0.7 times the increase in bicarbonate, then metabolic alkalosis coexists with primary respiratory acidosis. Likewise, if the increase in PaCO2 is less than the expected change, then a primary respiratory alkalosis is also present. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once I started thinking about the statement and the questions that followed, I couldn t help but think strictly of racism and sexism out of all the isms. I thought of this video I saw on Facebook. The video started off with two babies, one black one white. They were happy and playing. They didn t see the other as white or black, they just saw a little human like them. It is seen in famous movies such as the Wizard Of Oz, Star Wars, and the Harry Potter series. Robert Louis Stevenson s coming of age story, Treasure Island, originally published in 1883, was the base for many of those movies. Jim Hawkins a young boy who runs an inn along with his mother and father takes an unexpected turn when a pirate named Billy Bones comes barging in the inn one day. In the classic mid century tale this always seemed to be the knight having to slay the dragon. Young Jim Hawkins had some dragons to slay of his own. Throughout the journey he has to endure the shenanigans of the pirates. He hears about the mutiny that was going to rise, and the fights back against them. He uses his wits to avoid being captured, and has to fear for his life. When aboard the ship he is attacked and is almost murdered by Israel Hands, but he kills him in self defense. He warns, One more step, Mr. Hands, said I, and I ll blow your brains out! Dead men don t bite, you know, (113). He does not regret killing him, he knew that Israel Hands was a diseased man. He would have killed Jim just as he killed one of his shipmates. This endeavor changed him into a more rugged and hardened person. Not only is he changed from the killing of Hands, but from the journey itself. He experienced the adventure of sailing, but also witnessed the rotten life of a pirate. Once he returned he had no interest for any more adventures or treasure. Although the story is told through the eyes of Jim Hawkins, the story is more about the adventure. The journey is what changes the character, and the audience gets to witness it. Stevenson wrote with inspiration from playing with his step sons. • 37. Everyman As A Morality Play Everyman is regarded as a morality play that was written in late 15th century. According to Michael A. Babcock, author of the story of Western culture, Morality plays can be explained in best ways because of allegories figure out efforts made between seven virtues and seven vices contained in heart of man . The play is a picture of what Christians should do or how they should spend their lives to save their souls from being convicted by death (Yaw Adu Gyamfi P.265). The understanding of death in Everyman play is influenced by how people live their lives. The play brings out an idea of how people struggle to choose between worldly things and the ultimate spiritual judgment. The conflict between riches, relationship and the spiritual enrichment, heaven and hell and God s verdict seems to be on the rise in the play. Babcock also states, Everyman is a struggle between good and evil, between seven virtues as well as seven vices . (167). we see how life is a transitory, when the play documents Everyman s journey from sinful life to sinfree life and finally to a holy death. Everyman tries to talk to his friends to accompany him on the long journey, but they abandon him in time of need. In fact, Fellowship responds to Everyman by saying, Whether ye have loved me or no, by Saint John, I will not with thee go (Line 287). It is building new features on previous functionality with each small incremental release. The software quality is maintained by rigorously testing each release. It is useful for time critical applications. The most well known current agile development life cycle model is Extreme Programming (XP). Why Agile model: The freedom that agile gives when new changes are needed to be implemented is very important. New changes can be implemented at very little cost because of the incremental releases. Even late changes in requirements are welcomed Unlike the waterfall model in agile model very limited planning is required to get started with the project. This target is measurable as The United Nations is able to measure fish stocks and will be able to measure them ten years from now to see if the laws put in place are positively affecting our worlds oceans. They will be able to check the harvest growth pattern that the fish stocks provide in order to catch illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. There are however targets under The Unites Nations goal that are not measurable this can be seen when looking at targets 14.7,14. a,14. b and 14.c. I believe that these goals are unable to be measured due to that fact for example in 14.7 there is no quantification in dollars or percentages as it is looking at economic benefits of developing states. When looking at the other targets they are to general and have no specific goal (i.e. date) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Comparing Science And Religion In Cat s Cradle Live by the harmless untruths that make you brave and kind and healthy and happy (Kurt Vonnegut, Cat s Cradle). Many people adhere to the idea that because something is true, it must be in a sense good. Vonnegut often compares and contrasts science and religion in Cat s Cradle. He defines religion as a form of creating lies, while he defines scienceas a form of discovering truths. While religionis negatively depicted in the novel, the most severe criticisms are used for science and the endless pursuit of truth. The world in Cat s Cradle is quite realistic in the sense that truth, in the form of discoveries such as the atomic bomb and Ice 9, is used for personal gain with little regard for the effects of these truths of humanity. The theme I chose for Cat s Cradle is that just... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book Felix Hoenikker creates the atom bomb that was dropped on Japan. He created this in search of the truth, he did not care about the repercussions of such an invention. Ice 9 was proposed by a general with no scientific background for an innocent purpose. Felix takes on this challenge and creates Ice 9, the invention that destroys the world. An invention created for an innocent purpose by a reckless scientist who did not think of a possible outcome that would destroy the world. Just because you believe in something, does that make it true? If you get fed lies that you believe, do the lies become truth, and if so are these lies good? The people of San Lorenzo had terrible, poverty stricken lives that most people would say were not worth living. Bokononism gave the people a reason to live, it was an exciting religion that gave them a purpose in life. Bokononism was created by Bokonon for this purpose, and outlawed by McCabe to make it more interesting for the people of the island so they adapt it. These are a few questions that could be asked about truth and good and many of the ideas can relate to present day religious beliefs and technological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
