Archimedes was born in 287 BC in Syracuse, Greece. He died in 212 BC when he was killed by a Roman soldier who did not know his identity. Archimedes' father was named Phidias and may have been related to Hieron II, the king of Syracuse. Archimedes' Principle states that when a body is immersed partially or fully in a fluid, it experiences an upward force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the body. This upward force is called the buoyant force. The buoyant force depends on the volume of the body immersed and the density of the fluid.
