ARCHIMEDES PRNCIPLE
Made By-Mimansa Chauhan
Archimides (c.287 BC-c.212
BC) born in Syracuse,
Sicily. He was an Ancient
Physicist, Mathematician,
Astronomer, Engineer and
Inventor.
WHAT IS ARCHIMIDES PRINCIPAL?
Archimedes Principal states
that:"When a body is immersed
in liquid, an upward thrust,
equal to the weight of the
liquid displaced, acts on it."
Weight of the solid in Air - Weight of the solid when immersed
in liquid=Loss of weight in solid
Loss in weight of
the solid=Weight
of the liquid
displaced
WHY DOES A BODY FLOAT OR
SINK?
Some bodies when
dropped in water, sink,
such as iron nail or a
stone. On the other hand,
some bodies even with
same weight as that of
those that sink, float on
water, such as empty
plastic bottle and even a
ship.
Why ship does not sink
while a iron nail sinks?
The weight of the water
displaced by the ship is
equal to the its weight,
so it floats. Whereas the
weight of the water
displaced by the iron nail
is less than its weight so
the iron nail sinks.
HYDROMETER
It is an instrument used to measure the
relative density of liquids.
FISH
Certain groups of fishes use Archimedes
Principle to go up and down the water.
SHIP
A ship floats on the surface of the sea because
the volume of water displaced by the ship is
enough to have a weight equal to the weight of
the ship.
SUBMARINE
The submarine has a large ballast tank, which is used
to control its position and depth from the surface of
the sea. A submarine submerges by letting water into
the ballast tank so that its weight becomes greater
than the buoyant force. Conversely it floats by
reducing water in the ballast tank, thus its weight is
less than by buoyant force.
