The Portrayal of Women in Joseph Conrad s Heart of...
Women have gained equality with men over the many centuries of the evolution of the modern
western civilization. Hence, it cannot be overlooked that there still exist many literary examples of
social disregard for woman potential. Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness exemplifies the Western
patriarchal gender roles in which women are given the inferior status. p Not only are women portrayed
as being inferior to men, but Marlow s (the protagonist s) seldom mentioning of them in his Congo
adventure narrative symbolizes his view of their insignificance. There is a total of five women
presented in Marlow s narrative but only three of them are significant minor characters: Marlow s
aunt, Kurtz s African mistress, and Kurtz s Intended. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She appears to be a greedy soul that wants a family member of hers to become wealthy through

perspective, the noble cause was as she put it weaning those ignorant millions from their horrid ways .
It is hard to comprehend how she knows the natives of Congo to be horrible people without personally
interacting with them. This talk from his aunt actually makes Marlow feel uncomfortable since he later
learns that his aunt and the rest of the British are the truly ignorant millions, and not the natives of
Congo.
The next mentioning of a female character in Heart of Darkness is that of Kurtz s Intended. Since
Marlow s interaction with her comes at the end of the story, Kurt s African mistress is the next female
character Marlow encounters upon reaching the Inner Station. Her first appearance is when the ill
Kurtz is being taken aboard the steamboat and with body remarks to her, Marlow s Russian
counterpart describes her as being mischievous. Marlow s choice of words to describe the mistress
contrasts this. As she walks with her head high, he sees her as being proud and beautiful, with a

Sustained Release Analysis
Time released supplements are dissolved slowly and deliver a steady amount of vitamins over a period
of time. Sustained release has a longer half life and produces stable levels of the vitamin throughout
the day (Cascade, Kalali, Weisler, 2008). They are enteric coated, which protects them from being
digested in the stomach. They contain tiny pellets of the vitamin, each individually coated so that their
contents are steadily released overtime (United States Pharmacopeia, 2012).
Extended release is designed to prolong absorption of vitamins with shorter half lives. This allows for
longer dosing intervals and decreases fluctuations in serum levels (Perucca, 2009). One example is
extended release niacin which helps avoid side effects of flushing ... Show more content on

Dillard Reflection
The moth shook its sodden clumps of wing (Dillard 160). A quote as powerful as this one captures the
depth of Dillard s views, which have a crippling effect on her outlook towards life. Dillard s
environment is similar to that of the moth s, a limited amount of space to grow and prosper. Growth is
a factor Dillard sees as extremely important in life, as she tries to learn a vast amount of information.
Dillard has experiences in her memoir that mold who she is and what she has become. In many ways,
I too reflect on similar experiences that mold who I am and what I have become overtime. Dillard and
I experience a crippling environment and a pursuit to try and learn everything. As a child, Dillard is
aware of her own open mindedness and perceptive abilities. A special memory that sticks out to her
most is when she sees a Polyphemus moth crippled by a glass jar too small. Dillard compares this
moth in a crippling environment to her own life in Pittsburgh, which is far too small. Pittsburgh is
unable to hold the dreams that Dillard has. Normal dreams of girls of wealth in Pittsburgh are
marrying the elite boys, who will go on to run the big companies in Pittsburgh. These big company
boys do not interest Dillard, she has a dream to explore and use her knowledge for something bigger.
A moment like this is a crucial turning point in Dillard s life because it represents an image for her to
look at. This moth, described as a deformed creature, is impactful because the moth walks

The Little Rock Nine
The Little Rock Nine were one of the most brave groups of people to enroll in a High School ever,
they were one of the most important groups of people that changed segregation and racism in schools.
The nine African American students that attended Little Rock Central High School did not have it
easy. Governor Faubus did not like that they were attending High School so he sent in Arkansas
National Guard on September 4, 1957. Due to the National Guard, the nine could not enter the school.

A Professor Hernan Human A Study On Physical Activities...
For my essay given by my professor Hernan Humana, I decided to interview my friends Zain Amjad
and Shayan Wasim who are currently studying in Life Science.I questioned these 2 men about their
experience in physical activities and sports during their childhood and early adolescence. We also had
a brief discussion on the factors which promote and inhibit involvement in physical activities and
sports. As I interviewed, Zain Amjad for my Sociology Of Sport essay asking him about his
experience in physical activities and sports during his childhood and early adolescence. Zain revealed
that during his childhood , his parents decided to enrol him on the soccer team where his coach was
quite rude to him.He would punish him or say things like do not play like girls if he did not play well
in the game. Zain also revealed that he was abused by his coach where the coach would hit him and
make him do extra practice as punishment and if he cried or raise voice against it, coach would tell
him why are you acting like girls, you are a young men who should be acting tough not like girls who
are weak. Zain also divulged around the fact that he was pressurized during games in regards to
winning the game. There were huge expectations placed upon him by his coach and parents which
caused complications for him as he could not concentrate and perform excellently in the game. He
also discussed the problem it created between his parents and him as they expected him to perform

Essay Transmission, Treatment and Prevention of Salmonella
Transmission, Treatment and Prevention of Salmonella
Abstract
Salmonella is a gram negative rod, which is known to infect humans, birds, and other mammals by
invading and irritating the intestines. It is more common in poultry and swine which, if consumed, can
cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps. The infectious disease can be found almost
everywhere and anywhere, including in water, animal feces, raw poultry, and raw seafood. Animals
consume salmonella from the soil or contaminated processed feed. In humans, salmonella can lead to
a developing typhoid like fever that persists among other symptoms. However, there is no vaccine
available for Salmonella but no treatment is needed because the infection is usually simply ... Show

The transmission of Salmonella is primarily oral. Food is the vehicle of spread. (Rieman, Hans, and
Frank L Bryan) Animals can consume salmonella from the soil or contaminated processed feed.
Domestic animals, such as chickens, cattle, pigs, dogs, cats, and especially reptiles, are great carriers
for salmonella. On the other hand, humans usually get a Salmonella infection though the ingestion of
food contaminated with animal feces or infected animal products. Salmonella bacteria are mostly
found in food products such as eggs, meat products, poultry, unpasteurized dairy products, and cheese.
(Salmonella Infection) The bacteria can also be found in water and can be spread if consumed.
Salmonella present on raw meat and poultry could survive if the product is not cooked to the safe
minimum internal temperature, as measured with a food thermometer (Salmonella Infection).
Salmonella could also become present on otherwise ready to eat foods such as salad through food to
food contact or cross contamination (when contaminated food comes into contact with clean food
therefore passing the bacteria and thus infecting said food). Another, rarer form of salmonella,
typhoidal salmonella, is carried only by humans and is usually transmitted through direct contact with
the fecal matter of an infected person. This kind of salmonella infection can lead to

Innocence In Blackberry Winter By Robert Penn Warren
Country life is often romanticized as spotless innocence. As described, The city, no matter how small,
is corrupt and unrepentant, while the sun shines brighter in the country, making people more
wholesome (Lori Lansens). The city is where adventure and opportunity are readily available;
innocence is tossed aside in favor of experience. But, the country is known for its presumed ability to
help people regain their innocence to cleanse them of their taint. While it is true that the country offers
quieter, simpler living as compared to city/suburb living, the country is not sinless. Robert Penn
Warren s Blackberry Winter is undeniable evidence of the dark side of country living. The whimsical
title and warm opening paragraph appear as a cheery country aesthetic. But as the story continues, the
illusion dissipates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Truthfully, the tale is of a blissfully ignorant Tennessee farm boy s sudden and painfully realistic
transit from under the veil of childhood innocence into the disenchanting reality of life.
When the story begins, Seth, in the midst of a secure, simple life, is already transitioning away from
his naivety. Small and seemingly insignificant things like not being able to go barefoot in summer, the
appearance of a stranger, and experiencing his first Blackberry Winter confuse Seth. Before this day,
life was simple and methodical; his understanding of the world around him was childlike: When you

something you know it. You know how a thing has been and... you can go barefoot in June. He never

pottery and black figure pottery show humans and animals, mythology, beliefs and sports. Carvings of
their heroes and everyday life are shown. They are made differently. First black figure pottery will be

Biblical And Theological Basis Of A Transformational...
CHAPTER 4.
BIBLICAL AND THEOLOGICAL BASIS
This project provides the theological basis for developing a transformational leadership certification.
In doing so, the research related to this project has three themes that are related to each other, the
problem, purpose statements, and theological basis:
Christian Change Agent
Servant Leadership
Shalom
Christian Change Agent Most processes are developed to serve a specific objective. However, over
time any process should be reviewed for effectiveness regardless of the risk of resistance to change.
Jesus taught this concept, when he said,
Now John s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, How is it
that John s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not? Jesus answered,
How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have
him with them. But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day
they will fast. No one sews a patch of un shrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece
will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins.
Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they
pour new wine into new wineskins (Mark 2:18 22).
In order for transformational leaders, to function as Christian change agents they should try and
change the hearts and ways of thinking of people

Peter Dacunha Interview
Every time I interview a young person in the entertainment business, I customarily have a sense of
awe and excitement. Most of these young performers have accomplished so much in their relatively
short life span, and the vast majority of them (unlike the gossip columns would prefer you to believe)
are good kids. In the case of Peter DaCunha, it was truly a joy when I recently had the opportunity to

Should Congress Close Guantanamo Bay Naval Station And...
Introduction There is a problem in the United States. There is an excess of terrorists and having the
most powerful nation on Earth means that these terrorists often end up in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
This prison is based on 45 square miles of land that is known more commonly as Gitmo. Most people
believe Guantanamo is a good concept but has gone terribly wrong. The government needs to do
something because with the current proposal from President Obama, detainees would be moved
ashore and abroad, which would not fix the problem. The problem is, what do we do with all these
terrorists? If this proposal passes through, people will be worried and need answers about Gitmo. Why
should the most dangerous people in the world come on American soil?
Research Question
Should Congress close Guantanamo Bay Naval Station and Prison?
Research
Guantanamo Bay opened in 2002 and since then more than 700 detainees have been held there. In
1991, approximately 34,000 Haitian refugees are detained on the base after they flee a coup in Haiti.
In 1994 1995, more than 55,000 Cubans and Haitians, captured at sea, are kept at Guantanamo. These
are not considered detainees because they are not American prisoners, but Cuban. At its peak in 2003,
Guantanamo held nearly 680 detainees, and there were about 245 when President Obama took office.
The life standards at Guantanamo are the worst in human history. Murat Kurnaz spent five years in
Guantanamo and below are some facts from his book. When he was

The Valley of Elah
In The Valley of Elah is undoubtedly one of the most realistic depictions of a modern soldiers
experience during the war in Iraq. This film exposes the challenges that many soldiers face upon
returning home from duty. In the Valley of Elah follows a detective plot as Hank Deerfield tries to find
his AWOL son, Mike, who has just returned home from active duty in Iraq. As Hank pieces together
the events that lead to his sons death, the viewers see how traumatized the returning soldiers are. This
film submerges the viewer in very powerful and gruesome incidents, which is seen through the

At the end of the film, the audience learns what happened to Mike that changed him forever. Mike
documented these experiences through video recordings and photographs that were shared with his
father. Through the grainy video recordings we see Mike driving a military convey. Under military
standing orders, a soldier is not allowed to stop a vehicle for anything in the middle of the road. If
someone or something gets in front of you, you do not stop. [If] you stop, shitheads pop up with RPG
s and kill you all dead (In the Valley of Elah 2007). Under orders, Mike speeds up the military convey
and runs over a child. He proceeds to get out of the vehicle and takes a photograph with his cellphone
of the boy s dead body on the side of the road. That moment changed Mike forever.
Running over a child during the first week of deployment had an immense impact on Mike and his
behavior. Mike calls his father and says you gotta get me out of here, something happened, Dad. Hank
asks his son if there is anybody there with [him]? because he does not want his son to be seen as weak
while crying on the phone. This scene continues to add to the stress that Mike faces in Iraq. Mike is
trying to reach out for help from his father about an incident that traumatized Mike but Hank did not
want to hear or discuss any of Mike s issues. This phone call and loss of connection with Hank further
contributes to Mike s downward spiral in Post Traumatic Stress

Sex Offender Notification System
Since 1994 nationwide laws have been put into an effect nationwide asking for those convicted of a
sexual crime be placed on a registered list. In the 20 years since its implementation, the registry has
added several caveats such as a tier based registry where the violent offenders were kept at a higher
more prominent level. As well as public notice every few months of an offender relocating or living in
your area. While some low levels offenders must relinquish 15 years of their life notifying the public
and remaining on this list, those on the higher tier of the list must reregister more often and for the rest

Since it s their enactment however some states have seen a dramatic increase in sex offenders whether
due to the expansion of the definition of a sexual crime, or the reclassification of some convicts as a

their state, served time but under the state s legislature was not required to register as an offender.
Under the current law, there is a possibility this teenager will have to register for the rest of their life

The Devil s Arithmetic Analysis
Contradicting the glowing reviews of this novel, there are many things that can be improved about
The Devil s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen. The point of view, as it came from a twelve year old, withheld
some important points and perspectives. Although it gave an opportunity for some serious character
development, certain scenes were trivialized, such as the dinner. Hannah described her discomfort for
most of the time instead of focusing on the importance and meaning of certain moments. Because of
this, the reader doesn t have an opportunity to learn more about modern Jewish tradition, something
that seems almost obvious to have in this type of book. Although the concept of time travel and her

Importance Of National Self-Determination In Africa
In African contexts, an emphasis was given to the fact that national self determination meant self
determination of the people against the colonial landlords. The nation didn t oppose so much another
nation as it did the colonial autocratic ruler (xxx, xxx). But what seems more important is the fact that
when the colonial power finally realized the need to prepare their colonies for self government, they
did so within the framework established by the colonial state (xxx, xxx). The colonial state thus
became equated not only with its physical attributes (territory and population) but also with its
bureaucracy, the nervous center from which stemmed ail decisions affecting the country (xxx, xxx).
National self determination also found its ultimate expression, not in continental Pan Africanism or
broader regional units, but in the states, Africans inherited from the colonial powers (xxx, xxx). The
first indications that pan Africanism had been overruled by the nationalism of individual states came
during the first assembly of African independent states held in Accra in 1958. It was then that Kwame
Nkrumah, who ironically until then had led the movement towards Pan Africanism, expressed the
need to respect the independence, the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the newly created
states in the interests of peace (xxx, xxx). When African states finally achieved their independence in
conformity with the United Nations General Assembly Resolutions interpreted as the

Headscarf Narrative
Gadeer Seleh
College Essay I decided to wear the headscarf on my first day of middle school.I would always get
questions like what is that on your head, why are you wearing it, do you take a shower with that, why
can t you take it off and so on.I tried so hard to fit in.No, I don t shower with my hijab on. Yes, I do
have ears and I even have hair! This happened everyday. But, being a kid in middle school it was
complicated. I wanted people to notice me. I guess I just wanted to be like any girl would feel.I would
wake up every morning and think how different I would be not wearing the headscarf. If i didn t wear
it I can be like the rest of the beautiful girls I would think to myself. I was jealous on the way I couldn

Essay about Compare a P and Greasy Lake
John Updike s A P and T. Coraghessan Boyle s Greasy Lake have many similarities as well as
differences as coming of age stories. A P is about a nineteen year old boy working at a grocery shop
who stands up against the manager trying to defend and impress the girls he is attracted to who are not
decently dressed (Updike 18). Greasy Lake is a story of several nineteen years old youths who play a
prank on a bad character and experience what real bad characters can do. Fortunately, Sammy and the
narrator realize their deficiency – infantility – after their conflict with other people just like the
ancient Greek proverb says, Through suffering comes wisdom (qtd. in Vannatta 1637). In Sammy s
case, enraged that Lengel has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hiding near the lake, the narrator is consternated and his true self – the good side of his character – is
stimulated: He is more shaken by guilt than by fear that Bobby s friends will hurt him. He is, in fact,
later overjoyed to hear the sound of Bobby s voice (Vannatta 1636). He, as well as readers, finds that
even though he call himself bad , deeply within his heart, he has many good personalities (traits?),
such as sympathy for other people (is sympathy a personality?). After he encounters the corpse of the
motorcyclist and experiences what Bobby s friends do with his mother s car, the narrator further more
distinguishes the difference between one s appearance and one s inner self: a truly bad character does
not have a label on his face. At the end of the story, when the young woman says that the three
[teenagers] look like ‘pretty bad characters , the narrator s reaction is hardly one of pride: ‘I thought
I was going to cry (Vannatta 1638). Finally, the narrator completes this significant step towards
maturity. He does not try to act like a bad character any more because he is not born to be bad. All he
wants is to go home and start his new life. Both stories are told in first person from the narrators point
of views which allow reader to discover the immaturity in both protagonists character through their
minds. In A P , there are many places where Updike demonstrates

National Mall Protest
Protests at the National Mall
A public space is an area or place that is open to everyone. Public space encompasses areas such as
malls, restaurants, marketplaces, libraries, plazas, parks, and schools.
For most people, public spaces are a way for people to interact with other members of their
community. However, the importance of public space goes beyond a local neighborhood level. On a
state and national level, they help to promote the principles of democracy. The use of public spaces for
social and political change can be seen throughout history. When protesters gather at any public space,
their goal is to disrupt the status quo and have their voices heard (Placemaking News Round Up). The

In 1993, over 800,000 people marched on the National Mall seeking anti discrimination laws that
would prevent citizens from being discriminated against based on sexual identity and increased
funding for AIDS research (Marks). The march allowed the LGBTQ community to gain national and
social recognition. The actions of the protesters helped to bring about legislation that permitted same
sex marriage and increased funding for AIDS research (Marks). The march was fundamental in giving
the members of the LGBTQ community a feeling of power and worth. Protesting on the National
Mall, in a public space with other gay people, inspired many marchers to return home and make a life
for themselves in their communities as an openly gay person (Graff). Additionally, the march helped
to establish equal rights for the members of the LGBTQ

Distracted Driving Law
Due to the many car crashes from driving while using electronic devices, Oregon issued the Oregon
Distracted Driving Law, which took effect in the beginning of October. It prevents the use of
electronic devices that require you to take your eyes or hands away from the wheel. However, why did
this law have to be made? What events occurred to make the government to even think they need to
regulate this? One sunny day on a Houston road, the driver of a pickup truck collided with a church
minibus. 13 people died, and the driver admitted he was texting and driving. Yet this happens very
often. Over 330,000 car accidents happened from texting while driving in 2015. Distracted driving is
very risky, because attention is drawn away from the road,

Pay for Performance Essay
Pay for Performance
Park University
Overview
Incentive pay, also known as pay for performance is generally given for specific performance results
rather than simply for time worked. While incentives are not the answer to all personnel challenges,
they can do much to increase worker performance. (Billikopf) Performance pay has various names:
merit pay, pay for performance, knowledge and skill based pay, or individual or group incentive pay.
(Delisio) Pay for performance systems have further been proven to have two advantages for
organizations: attracting more high quality employees and motivating employees to exert more effort
at their jobs. (Gordon, Kaswin) This paper will show the positive benefits of performance pay as ...

Pivotal in that philosophy development is how and to what extent pay will be tied to specific types of
performance. This issue will not be treated the same in every organization. However, every business
should be able to identify certain performance objectives it wants its workforce to fulfill and the
financial outcome that will be achieved if that result is attained. Such a projection can be translated
into an increased shareholder value figure. (The VisionLink Advisory Group)
Features of Effective Plans
Top Management Support Supervisors must understand the incentive pay process in order to support
and administer it. Oftentimes, a lack of understanding causes managers to ignore or adapt the process
as they see fit. Moreover, if supervisors are not trained on how to measure performance, the process
will not be standardized across the company. (Gordon, Kaswin) Having buy in from key stakeholders
is crucial for the success of an incentive pay system. For example, if top management does not support
such a program, lower level managers will place little importance on effectively administering the
program. Hence, a lack of top management support often leads to a lack of accountability. (Gordon,
Kaswin)
Communication
Consistent and methodical communication is necessary when implementing an incentive pay plan. It
will ensure employees understand what is expected of them while decreasing the likelihood

Montana 1948 Loyalty Quotes
Montana 1948 Essay
In the novel, Montana 1948, written by Larry Watson, an important event occurred at the end of the
story in which the character Wesley finally stands up to his power obsessed father, Julian. This event
allowed the readers to comprehend the ideas of loyalty versus justice, power over the oppressed and
the breakdown of family hierarchy.
In Montana 1948 the idea of loyalty versus justice was shown in the event. When Wesley and his
father Julian are disputing about Wesley s brother, Frank, and how he is locked inside the basement,
Wesley states that This isn t about family, this is a legal matter . This implies that Wesley has chosen
Justice over loyalty. Watson s intention for making Wesley choose Justice over loyalty, was to show
how difficult it can be for a person who has a huge amount of responsibility in the field of justice and
choose either loyalty to family or justice disregarding how bad the situation is. This is crucial in
society today, because countless of people who work for the law, will always have the hard decision of
choosing loyalty to their family or choosing justice. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

your ass in gear and get your brother out here now! This quote shows the small amount of respect
Julian has for his own son when he curses. Watson s purpose for using Julian to show the idea of
power over the oppressed is to show how cruel a person can become when they are obsessed with
power, even to their own family. This is important in today s world because there are so many people
in the world where one person rules thousands of people and treats them in a cruel

Arts Is An Institution Of Higher Education
Wesleyan is an institution of higher education, and I would place education at the center of all fine arts
programming.
Many of us are aware of the transformative power of Arts performances and exhibits. I ll call this arts
enrichment. The Arts reach deeply into our unconscious minds and make an imprint beyond where the
written or spoken word can go. The Arts open minds to pluralistic thinking and banish barriers
between various groups within the human race without in your face politics or flag waving
sentimentality. With subtlety of expression, the Arts elevate us to our best selves, and our society to
both its cultural differences and oneness. But many of us know this.
Arts Education (capital E) is a noble pursuit to which I devote much of my life and career. Every
student needs the vocabulary, skills and perceptions gained by studying Art, Culture and the
Humanities. Too many people say, I took piano for a few years, but I quit, or I saw the movie, why go
out on a rainy night to see the play, unaware that music belongs to us all, art belongs to us all, and a
cathartic experience in a darkened theater makes us think, feel and become more human. Art is as
much a way for us to understand ourselves as knowing our history or understanding the laws of
physics. Art is not for artists and talented people, art is for us all, but some students may not see the
relevance of attending an art opening when final exams are looming.
Beyond arts enrichment and Arts Education, is the

The Legality Of Planned Parenthood
Abortion is a controversial topic in the United States, causing a split debate on the morality of
allowing women to continue aborting babies up until 22 weeks of gestation and the argument that
abortion should not be allowed on any circumstances excluding rape, incest or the health of the
mother. These situations are complex and many women have strong opinions and they use the terms
Prolife or Prochoice to explain their position on the matter. Planned Parenthood is the primary location
where women can carry out the termination of their pregnancy. Abortion is always a political issue
during election time so the legality of Planned Parenthood is constantly being inspected.
Margaret Sanger started the birth control movement in the early 1910 s and advocated for the right of
contraception during sex. After her founding of Parenthood in 1916, It led to major modifications in
the laws governing birth control and sex education in the United States. Planned Parenthood originally
went by the name Birth Control Clinical Research Bureau but later formed with the American Birth
Control League (ABCL) which eventually evolved itself to become a center advocating for women s
health with a primary focus on providing abortions for women ( History of Planned Parenthood ).
Previously, this right was illegal for women, so they were forced to bear children for their husband,
whom had a strong control over the woman. Sanger became passionate on this subject because she
herself was a part of an

Edgar Allan Poe Contributions
Edgar Allan Poe: Contribution to American history and literature
Are today s authors really original with their work or using a base layer from some other author from a
more ancient time? These writers are using works that have already been made by an older author.
This author is Edgar Allan Poe. This author is best known for his impact on being the grandmaster of
mysterious literary works, but also his sensitivity towards his writings. Poe positively affected
American history and literature by impacting the writings of many modern day authors, bringing a
new dark twisted element of interest into American literature, and using gloomy descriptive word
techniques that changed the course of detective and horror pieces of writings for future generations.

Though it was too late to have fame for Poe, his name went down in history. Poe has contributed to
any horror story or detective case fantasy that has risen through the ink of the pen. The horror genre
has been influenced by Edgar s basic outlines of his writings. Modern horror movies have pictured
torture as a big puller inner to audiences (Edgar Allan Poe Biography). So they show bloody, gory,
scenes that show ripped limbs, organs, and a lot of blood to grab audiences to the theaters (Edgar
Allan Poe Biography).Without these horror movies, Poe has inspired; teenagers would have never
been able to spend money at the theaters to escalate the economy. Most of Poe s writings in this genre
are about awful people who are stuck within a certain area unable to get out without pain and
suffering. Twenty first century movies that show this are movies like the Saw series, Hostel, Friday the
13th , or even A Nightmare on Elm Street . From classic stories to modern age horror movies, they all
stem from one twisted mind: Edgar Allan

  • 2. The Portrayal of Women in Joseph Conrad s Heart of... Women have gained equality with men over the many centuries of the evolution of the modern western civilization. Hence, it cannot be overlooked that there still exist many literary examples of social disregard for woman potential. Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness exemplifies the Western patriarchal gender roles in which women are given the inferior status. p Not only are women portrayed as being inferior to men, but Marlow s (the protagonist s) seldom mentioning of them in his Congo adventure narrative symbolizes his view of their insignificance. There is a total of five women presented in Marlow s narrative but only three of them are significant minor characters: Marlow s aunt, Kurtz s African mistress, and Kurtz s Intended. The ... It is hard to comprehend how she knows the natives of Congo to be horrible people without personally interacting with them. This talk from his aunt actually makes Marlow feel uncomfortable since he later learns that his aunt and the rest of the British are the truly ignorant millions, and not the natives of Congo. The next mentioning of a female character in Heart of Darkness is that of Kurtz s Intended. Since Marlow s interaction with her comes at the end of the story, Kurt s African mistress is the next female character Marlow encounters upon reaching the Inner Station. Her first appearance is when the ill Kurtz is being taken aboard the steamboat and with body remarks to her, Marlow s Russian counterpart describes her as being mischievous. Sustained release has a longer half life and produces stable levels of the vitamin throughout the day (Cascade, Kalali, Weisler, 2008). They are enteric coated, which protects them from being digested in the stomach. They contain tiny pellets of the vitamin, each individually coated so that their contents are steadily released overtime (United States Pharmacopeia, 2012). Extended release is designed to prolong absorption of vitamins with shorter half lives. This allows for longer dosing intervals and decreases fluctuations in serum levels (Perucca, 2009). • 4. Dillard Reflection The moth shook its sodden clumps of wing (Dillard 160). A quote as powerful as this one captures the depth of Dillard s views, which have a crippling effect on her outlook towards life. Dillard s environment is similar to that of the moth s, a limited amount of space to grow and prosper. Growth is a factor Dillard sees as extremely important in life, as she tries to learn a vast amount of information. Dillard has experiences in her memoir that mold who she is and what she has become. In many ways, I too reflect on similar experiences that mold who I am and what I have become overtime. Dillard and I experience a crippling environment and a pursuit to try and learn everything. As a child, Dillard is aware of her own open mindedness and perceptive abilities. A special memory that sticks out to her most is when she sees a Polyphemus moth crippled by a glass jar too small. Dillard compares this moth in a crippling environment to her own life in Pittsburgh, which is far too small. Pittsburgh is unable to hold the dreams that Dillard has. Normal dreams of girls of wealth in Pittsburgh are marrying the elite boys, who will go on to run the big companies in Pittsburgh. These big company boys do not interest Dillard, she has a dream to explore and use her knowledge for something bigger. A moment like this is a crucial turning point in Dillard s life because it represents an image for her to look at. This moth, described as a deformed creature, is impactful because the moth walks ... But, the country is known for its presumed ability to help people regain their innocence to cleanse them of their taint. While it is true that the country offers quieter, simpler living as compared to city/suburb living, the country is not sinless. BIBLICAL AND THEOLOGICAL BASIS This project provides the theological basis for developing a transformational leadership certification. In doing so, the research related to this project has three themes that are related to each other, the problem, purpose statements, and theological basis: Christian Change Agent Servant Leadership Shalom Christian Change Agent Most processes are developed to serve a specific objective. However, over time any process should be reviewed for effectiveness regardless of the risk of resistance to change. Jesus taught this concept, when he said, Now John s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, How is it that John s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not? Jesus answered, How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them. But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day they will fast. No one sews a patch of un shrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins (Mark 2:18 22). There is an excess of terrorists and having the most powerful nation on Earth means that these terrorists often end up in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The government needs to do something because with the current proposal from President Obama, detainees would be moved ashore and abroad, which would not fix the problem. • 22. Importance Of National Self-Determination In Africa In African contexts, an emphasis was given to the fact that national self determination meant self determination of the people against the colonial landlords. The nation didn t oppose so much another nation as it did the colonial autocratic ruler (xxx, xxx). But what seems more important is the fact that when the colonial power finally realized the need to prepare their colonies for self government, they did so within the framework established by the colonial state (xxx, xxx). The colonial state thus became equated not only with its physical attributes (territory and population) but also with its bureaucracy, the nervous center from which stemmed ail decisions affecting the country (xxx, xxx). National self determination also found its ultimate expression, not in continental Pan Africanism or broader regional units, but in the states, Africans inherited from the colonial powers (xxx, xxx). The first indications that pan Africanism had been overruled by the nationalism of individual states came during the first assembly of African independent states held in Accra in 1958. It was then that Kwame Nkrumah, who ironically until then had led the movement towards Pan Africanism, expressed the need to respect the independence, the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the newly created states in the interests of peace (xxx, xxx). However, every business should be able to identify certain performance objectives it wants its workforce to fulfill and the financial outcome that will be achieved if that result is attained. (The VisionLink Advisory Group) Features of Effective Plans Top Management Support Supervisors must understand the incentive pay process in order to support and administer it. Oftentimes, a lack of understanding causes managers to ignore or adapt the process as they see fit. Moreover, if supervisors are not trained on how to measure performance, the process will not be standardized across the company. (Gordon, Kaswin) Having buy in from key stakeholders is crucial for the success of an incentive pay system. For example, if top management does not support such a program, lower level managers will place little importance on effectively administering the program. Hence, a lack of top management support often leads to a lack of accountability. Montana 1948 Loyalty Quotes Montana 1948 Essay In the novel, Montana 1948, written by Larry Watson, an important event occurred at the end of the story in which the character Wesley finally stands up to his power obsessed father, Julian. This event allowed the readers to comprehend the ideas of loyalty versus justice, power over the oppressed and the breakdown of family hierarchy. When Wesley and his father Julian are disputing about Wesley s brother, Frank, and how he is locked inside the basement, Wesley states that This isn t about family, this is a legal matter . • 30. Arts Is An Institution Of Higher Education Wesleyan is an institution of higher education, and I would place education at the center of all fine arts programming. Many of us are aware of the transformative power of Arts performances and exhibits. I ll call this arts enrichment. The Arts reach deeply into our unconscious minds and make an imprint beyond where the written or spoken word can go. The Arts open minds to pluralistic thinking and banish barriers between various groups within the human race without in your face politics or flag waving sentimentality. With subtlety of expression, the Arts elevate us to our best selves, and our society to both its cultural differences and oneness. But many of us know this. Arts Education (capital E) is a noble pursuit to which I devote much of my life and career. Every student needs the vocabulary, skills and perceptions gained by studying Art, Culture and the Humanities. Too many people say, I took piano for a few years, but I quit, or I saw the movie, why go out on a rainy night to see the play, unaware that music belongs to us all, art belongs to us all, and a cathartic experience in a darkened theater makes us think, feel and become more human. Art is as much a way for us to understand ourselves as knowing our history or understanding the laws of physics. Art is not for artists and talented people, art is for us all, but some students may not see the relevance of attending an art opening when final exams are looming. Beyond arts enrichment and Arts Education, is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Planned Parenthood is the primary location where women can carry out the termination of their pregnancy. Abortion is always a political issue during election time so the legality of Planned Parenthood is constantly being inspected. Margaret Sanger started the birth control movement in the early 1910 s and advocated for the right of contraception during sex. After her founding of Parenthood in 1916, It led to major modifications in the laws governing birth control and sex education in the United States. Planned Parenthood originally went by the name Birth Control Clinical Research Bureau but later formed with the American Birth Control League (ABCL) which eventually evolved itself to become a center advocating for women s health with a primary focus on providing abortions for women ( History of Planned Parenthood ). Previously, this right was illegal for women, so they were forced to bear children for their husband, whom had a strong control over the woman. Sanger became passionate on this subject because she herself was a part of an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
