Stop Motion
➜Referred to as Cel, Hand Drawn Animation.
➜Thousands of frames were drawn to create
the animation sequence.
➜Each cels or acetate sheets were slightly
different from the one before it.
➜Requires lot of Artistic Skills.
➜A lengthy process.
➜Softwares used: - Photoshop, TV Paint, Toon
Boom…
➜ Vector Based.
➜ Refers to animation that is created using two
dimensional drawings.
➜ Slightly different from Traditional Animation
as less Physical Objects are needed.
➜ In it Animator has the option of creating rigs
for the characters and then moving the body
parts individually instead of drawing the
character over and over.
➜ Softwares used: - Adobe Flash, Adobe After
Effects, Anime Studio…
➜ Referred as CGI (Computer Generated Images)
Animation
➜Made by generating images using Computer
Graphics that create a series of images that forms an
animation.
➜Characters are digitally modeled on screen and
then fitted with a ‘skeleton’.
➜The character’s body parts are always present and
should be taken to consideration.
➜Motion is smooth as compared to 2D.
➜ Softwares used: - Autodesk Maya, Autodesk
Softimage, Autodesk 3DS Max…
➜ Referred as Typography or Animated
Logos.
➜It’s the art of creatively moving graphic elements
or texts, usually for commercial or promotional

internet videos
➜ Softwares used: - Adobe After Effects, Cinema 4D…

Moving.
➜The process of recording the

➜The MoCap technology is used in the
entertainment industry for films and games to
get more realistic human movements.
➜Softwares used: - Autodesk Motion Capture…
➜Used in Avatar, Ra-one…
➜ Referred as Claymation, Puppets,
Cut-Out, Silhouette, Action
Figures/Lego, Pixelation.
➜Animations that uses objects that are
photographed in a sequence to create
an animated action.
➜Very long process, as each object has
to be carefully moved inch by inch.
➜ Softwares used: - Dragonframe, iStop Motion…
Claymation
Working with
clay or play-doh
characters that
can easily be
manipulated for
animation.
Puppets
Usually built
upon some sort of
skeleton rig.
The faces of the
characters can be
replaced based on
the expression, or
be controlled
within the rig.
Cut-Out
Using construction
paper or cardboard
characters and placing
them on a paper while
shooting the animation
from above.
The cardboard is then
moved a little each
frame to create the
illusion of movement.
Several Forms of Stop Motion
Silhouette
 Uses cardboard
or some kind of flat
material, but the
objects are all
black and the shot
is depicted with
silhouettes only.
 Oldest Form of
Stop Motion.
 Rarely Used.
Action Figures/Lego
 Popular on You
Tube.
Funny skits
created using Lego
Characters.
Use famous action
figures to make fun
of pop culture.
Pixilation
Uses real people
and real
environments to
create unreal
videos.
Uses the stop
motion method of
taking a still photo,
moving things
around, and then
taking another
photo.
