by Charles-Emile Reynaud, inventor
of the praxinoscope, an animation

3D animation is digitally modeled
and manipulated by an animator.
In order to manipulate a mesh, it
is given a digital skeletal structure
that can be used to control the
mesh. This process is called
rigging. Various other techniques
can be applied such as
mathematical functions,
simulated fur or hair, effects such
as fire and water and the use of
motion capture to name but a
few, these techniques fall under
the category of 3D dynamics.

Computer Animation is the
process used for generating
animated images. It encompasses
a variety of techniques, the
unifying factors being that the
animation is created digitally on a
computer. Modern computer
animation usually uses 3D
computer graphics, although 2D
computer graphics are still used
for stylistic, low bandwidth, and
faster real-time rendering.

 Animatronics - It is the use of
mechatronics to create machines
which seem animate rather than
robotics.
 Chuckimation - It is a type of
animation created by the makers
of the television series in which
characters/ props are thrown, or
chucked from off camera or
wiggled around to simulated
talking by unseen hands.
Puppetry - It is a from of theater
or performance animation that
involves the manipulation of
puppets.
