Essay about Tourette Syndrome
Tourette Syndrome
Works Cited Not Included
Tourette Syndrome was named for George Gilles de la Tourette, who first discovered the syndrome in
1885. Today there is still a mystery surrounding the disorder, it?s causes and it?s cures. But one of the
biggest mysteries is an associated behavior called coprolalia. This symptom is the uncontrolled
swearing or socially unacceptable utterances that some with Tourettes experience. Although despite
the media?s fascination, Tourette syndrome is not the cursing disease many believe it to be.
This baffling neurological disorder is characterized by repetitive motor and/or vocal tics. The
identifying symptom of TS seems to be tic disorders. ?A tic is a brief, repetitive, purposeless, ... Show

There are also utterances of insults and racial comments (Bruun 41). This seems the most commonly
recognized tic disorder of Tourettes. When most think of Tourette they automatically assume the
random cussing. Actually this seems to be a rare symptom. ?Coprolalia, the symptom that the general
public associates most often with TS, and it is not common?(Bruun 41).
It only occurs it a small minority of TS individuals. The numbers are an estimated 5 30% as reported
by the Tourette Syndrome Association in 1993. Some relate the coming on of an inappropriate word as
hard to control as a sneeze. They can feel it coming on but are unable to control it even with
medication (Michigan 1). One of the characteristics of coprolalia that sets it apart from just simply
swearing is that words come out compulsively. Most often when a person is angry but even if they are
just under stress (Kozlowski 1).
Causes of TS are still being debated and most leads are pointing to genetic factors. The understanding
of it seems to be incomplete and unfinished. But in 1999 researchers announced that they had found
evidence suggesting a link between chromosomes 4 and 8 and TS. Though there still is no clearly
identified gene to date. So all they can conclude is if one parent has TS there is a 50/50 chance for the
child to carry it unless it is liked by gender (Packer 5). A study done by Dr. Ruth Bruun indicated a
tendency toward a decrease in severity as patients grow in

Essay about The Effect of Video Game Violence on Youths
Does exposure to violence in video games, on TV, and in social media have an effect on those exposed
to it? Are those who are underage more susceptible to any detrimental side effects from viewing these
things? This has long been a topic of discussion among lawmakers, psychologists, and the scientific
field as a whole. It concerns parents and community members, especially in the wake of a seeming
rise in violence at school from bullying, fighting, or in the extreme cases of school shootings. Were
any of these types of incidents encouraged by exposure to violence in media? For the scope of this
paper I ll only be using information from a small number of experiments, and the results generated by
them. There is simply too much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first stating that these games increase violence by teaching the players how to be violent, then
rewarding them in game for violent activities. (Hall, Day, and Hall) Findings supporting these claims
also show that with an increase in violence comes other negative health risks such as an increased
likelihood of substance abuse, sexual activity, and obesity(Denniston, Swahn, Feldman, and Romero).
Media use, and subsequent exposure to violent content is extremely prevalent among 8 to 18 year old
children who spend, on average, 7.4 hours a day using media or computers and 80% of teens have
some type of gaming console(Denniston, Swahn, Feldman, and Romero) These claims and the amount
of media children are exposed to were concerning enough that the American Academy of Pediatrics
started making advisory statements about violent video games and media being health risks for
children in 2001. (Hall, Day, and Hall) Since then the link between violent games and violent behavior
in youths has been researched across many population groups (Denniston, Swahn, Feldman, and
Romero). The second theory revolves around any positive effects that might be gained from playing
these games (Hall, Day, and Hall). Stating that these may offer safe outlets for negative emotions and
thusly allowing players to be more emotionally balanced. (Hall, Day, and Hall) Data regarding the

Distracted Driving And Distracted Driving
There are thousands of ads in today s social media driven society. Each ad is directed to a different
group of people with a different type of message. There are some not so serious ads for things such as
food, shopping, or services. Then, there are some for more serious subjects such as bullying, safe
driving, drug abuse, and many others, these are usually labeled as a public service announcement. The
purpose of this paper is to look at a particular ad in depth and discuss the different aspects of it. Ads
have more meaning behind them than people normally realize, so that is the goal of this paper.
In this particular ad by EKBURG.RU, it is focusing on the number of car accidents. More,
specifically, car accidents involving children during the school holidays. In this ad, there is a man,
woman, and baby in the backseat. The man is in the driver s seat distracted

To build an understanding of how communities of practice create organizational value, we suggest
thinking of a community as an engine for the development of social capital. We argue that the social
capital resident in communities of practice leads to behavioral changes, which in turn positively
influence business performance. We identify four specific performance outcomes associated with the
communities of practice we studied and link these outcomes to the basic dimensions of social capital.
These dimensions include connections among practitioners who may or may not be co located;
relationships that build a sense of trust and mutual obligation, and a common language and context
that can be shared by community members. Our conclusions are based on a study of seven
organizations where communities of practice are acknowledged to be creating value.
Communities of practice and
Knowledge management
Wasko and Faraj (2000) describe three kinds of knowledge: knowledge as object , knowledge
embedded within individuals , and knowledge embedded in a community . Communities of Practice
have become associated with finding, sharing, transferring, and archiving knowledge, as well as
making explicit expertise , or tacit knowledge. Tacit knowledge is considered to be those valuable

Endosymbiosis and evolution of Organelles Essay
Endosymbiosis is important as it enables us to understand the evolution of eukaryotes from the
common ancestor. This essay will focus on: the early evolution of our eukaryote ancestor during
Precambrian period, plastids origin along the algae family due to second endosymbiosis; discuss the
evidence that supports the theory, including further examples of endosymbiosis. The theory, as
discussed by Lynn Margulis, states that mitochondria originated from α proteobacteria bacterium
which was engulfed by the ancestral anaerobic eukaryotic cell, through endocytosis, and retained
within the cytoplasm due to atmospheric oxygen increase. Prokaryote organism produced ATP,
through oxidative phosphorylation, by receiving organic compounds from ... Show more content on

They all have a double membrane chloroplasts, but the glaucophytes plastid morphology is unusual
because it resembles cyanobacteria, as they still include the outer peptidoglycan layer between the
chloroplast envelopes, and also resemble Chlorophyta and Rhodophyta plastid. Both Rhodophyta and
Glaucophyta consist of various features that are derived from the cyanobacteria but absent from
Chlorophyta. These are phycobilins pigments and phycobilisomes on the surface on thylakoid
membranes. Because of sequencing algae chloroplast genomes it is evident that glaucophytes,
rhodophytes and chlorophytes have evolved from a second endosymbiotic event, since they are
closely related to the ancestral cyanobacteria (Tomitani, 2006). Alternatively, some algal groups have
chloroplast with more than a double membrane, such as photosynthetic dinoflagellates and
stramenophile, implying that secondary endosymbiosis occurred due to heterotrophic eukaryote
engulfing chloroplast containing eukaryote. The secondary endosymbiosis event is suggested as
nucleomorphs , traces of primary host s nucleus, are present in the periplastid space between the
second and third chloroplast membranes of cryptomonads and chlorarachniophytes. In the
cryptomonads the nucleomorphs is formed due to the reduction of red algal nucleus and in the
chlorarachniophytes due to the reduction of green algal nucleus. Thus, plants had multiple
endosymbiotic events and each evolved independently

Compare And Contrast Landscape With The Fall Of Icarus
In addition, the Icarus tale in the poem by William, painting by Peter Bruegel the Elder and Icarus
Lego cartoon illustrate that the road to freedom leads to death. The poem Landscape with the Fall of
Icarus, by William Carlos Williams describes Icarus felt excited by the thrill of flying that lead him of
the feeling of freedom, and obviously, his feeling of joy and freedom made him forgot about his father
s warnings. Obviously, Icarus would not remember to be careful when he was flying for the first time
likewise the youth who drive a car for the first time will not be able to remember any warning or pay

What Is My Favorite Season Of Autumn
Bare Branches
When autumn begins the atmosphere is different, the air is crisp and the ground is crunchy with
leaves. There s a heavy light that falls over the earth, red and orange light hit the hilltops just perfectly
at sunset. The beauty in autumn is one I will never get over, the memories it brings when I feel the
cold air hit my skin is all worth the leaves falling and showing their bare branches. Autumn is my
favorite season because of the weather, the beauty it has, and the comfort it brings to me.
Finally getting relief from the hot summer sun is one of my favorite reasons why I adore autumn. I m
always anxious waiting for the day I can shut off my air conditioner and open a window to reveal the
sweat breeze. The neutral temperature is perfect for outdoor activities. Like grilling for a BBQ, taking
a long walk or hike, or playing some games outside. Breathing in the natural air always feels amazing,
it makes it easier. Sweating is not ideal, so when its autumn and the hot weather is finally gone I feel a
sense of relief that I m not drenched from head to toe.
My favorite thing to do during fall is watch the leaves change colors, and then fall to reveal the
beautiful bare branches. The vibrant colors that bounce off the leaves make my mood shift. I ... Show

clothing also means binging television shows and movies, isn t frowned upon! I love being able to lay
down on the couch, wrap myself up in a cozy blanket and watch movies with friends and family. The
food has to be the ultimate best part of autumn. Not only is everything warm and delicious, but mostly
pumpkin flavored! The sweet treats, like Carmel apples and pumpkin pie are just a few of my favorite

A Brief Note On Atherosclerosis And Coronary Spasms
1. Ms. T sought medical attention mainly because of intolerable chest pain after climbing several
flights of stairs; however, Ms. T has a history of conditions such as atherosclerosis and coronary
spasms. Atherosclerosis is the buildup of fatty material known as plaque, along the walls of arteries
causing the arteries to narrow (Taber s pg 224). Therefore, angina pectoris can result with exertion.
Also, coronary spasms can potentially be caused by plaque buildup and can occur in people who have
high cholesterol such as Ms. T. Also, coronary spasms are known to cause angina pectoris in people
(Taber s pg 2171). Ms. T s history of these conditions explains why she experiences episodes of
angina.

Essay on Analysis of Birches
Analysis of Birches
The discursive blank verse meditation Birches does not center on a continuously encountered and
revealing nature scene; rather, it builds a mosaic of thoughts from fragments of memory and fantasy.
Its vividness and genial, bittersweet speculation help make it one of Frost s most popular poems, and
because its shifts of metaphor and tone invite varying interpretation it has also received much critical
discussion, not always admiring. The poem moves back and forth between two visual perspectives:
birch trees as bent by boys playful swinging and by ice storms, the thematic interweaving being
somewhat puzzling. The birches bent across the lines of straighter darker trees subtly introduce the
theme of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frost s speaker then self consciously breaks from his realistic but metaphorically fantasied digression
to say he would prefer to have some boy bend the birches, which action becomes a symbol for
controlled experience, as contrasted with the genial fatality of ice storms. The boy s fancied
playfulness substitutes for unavailable companionship, making for a thoughtful communion with
nature, which rather than teach him wisdom allows him to learn it. Despite the insistence on the
difference between ice storms permanent damage to birches and a boy s temporary effects, the boy
subdues and conquers the trees. His swinging is practice for maintaining life s difficult and precarious
balances.
The third part of the poem begins with a more personal and philosophical tone. The speaker claims to
have been such a youthful swinger of birches, an activity he can go back to only by dreaming. The
birch trees, probably both ice bent and boy swung, stand for the order and control missing from
ordinary experience. The considerations he is weary of are conflicting claims that leave him
disoriented and stung. The desire to get away from earth, importantly qualified by awhile, shows a
yearning for the ideal or perhaps for the imaginative isolation of the birch swinger. His I d like to

(Bracknell, 2012). The Prosecutor of the ICC charged Thomas Lubanga Dyilo with the war crime of

children under the age of fifteen to participate actively in hostilities. The prosecutor requested a 30

The Apology Of Socrates
The Apology of Socrates is a Plato s version of speeches given by Socrates who was accused for two
main reasons: the corruption of the youth and impiety (not believing in gods in whom the city
believes). In the Apology Socrates tries to defend himself and his actions but not to apologize for it.
He insisted that he must be wiser than others because he knows and recognizes that knows nothing.
The Apology by Plato shows that there is a great influence of Socrates in searching for the truth about
humanity and society even when his attempt contradicted with the opinions of the many .

Socrates tells them that he will speak the truth, and pleads the judges to think of the justice of his

of accusations. At first, he refers to the older charges and his first accusers, and secondly he replies to
the accusations made by Meletus, Anytus, and Lycon. He was afraid of the older accusers most of all
and the reason behind this dread was that his accusers were many and he couldn t call them all by

Pet Adoption AD s
There are numerous reasons why one should make wise decision before adopting a dog. The first you
get to save a life by choosing to adopt. In the United Sates, more than two million dogs are available
to be adopted every year. One of the reason there are so many dogs up for adoption is a lot of owners
surrender their pets to the animal shelter. There are also benefits to adopting a dog from a shelter, it
helps pay for the shelter to save more dogs and to find homes for other dogs. There is also a
misconception that s animals in the shelter have something wrong with them. There is numerous
reason as to why someone would surrender a dog to the shelter, other than health problems. They also
make sure the dogs are healthy before they leave the shelter. Also, it is usually cheaper to purchase a
dog from an animal rescue center than a pet store.

Feminist Spirituality and Goddess Religion Essay
Feminist Spirituality and Goddess Religion
Thousands of years ago, the Goddess was viewed as an autonomous entity worthy of respect from
men and women alike. Because of societal changes caused by Eastern influence, a patriarchial system
conquered all aspects of life including religion. Furthermore, most feminists interested in goddesses
are women who strongly reject western patriarchal theology (Culpepper 51). Thus, there was this very
strong feminist idea of women being the prime in the early part of the 17th and the 18th century.
Today, the loss of a strong female presence in Judeo Christian beliefs has prompted believers to look
to other sources that celebrate the role of women. Men and women have increasingly embraced

Some of these so called religions would be Christianity including the Roman Catholic Church,
Protestants, European Religions and also Judaism who thought of as god being male i.e. Jesus.
Goddess worship was gradually combined with worship of male Gods to produce a variety of Pagan
religions, thus losing some of its singular focus on the female as a deity. Goddess Worship during the
Christian era was molded by more dominant outside forces. As Judaism, Christianity eventually Islam
evolved, the Pagan religions were suppressed and the female principle was gradually driven out of
religion. Consequently women were reduced to a level inferior to men. The God, King, Priest Father
replaced the Goddess, Queen, Priestess Mother (Miles 24). A woman s testimony was not considered
significant in courts, women were not allowed to speak in churches, and positions of authority in the
church were (almost without exception) limited to men. A feminine presence was added to Christianity
when the Virgin Mary was named Theotokos (Mother of God). However, her role was heavily
restricted and included none of the fertility components present in Pagan religions.
A low point in the life of women was reached during the Renaissance, when hundreds of thousands of
suspected female witches were exterminated being burned and hanged. At the turn of the century,
scholars began writing about a Mother Goddess . By the 1950s, Gerald Gardner

Flawed Intelligence Intelligence is not easily measured; there are many factors that influence the way
we determine whether or not someone is considered intelligent , and many more to rank who is more
intelligent than others. James R. Flynn, in his piece The Sociological Imagination, and Kevin
Warwick, in his work Into the Unknown, both share a common argument: intelligence is subjective;
therefore, social and environmental context should be considered. Both authors expand on the idea of
nature versus nurture. Flynn s main claim is that the way that intelligence is measured is flawed which
is supported by his use of sub claims and evidence, such as intelligence is dependent on social
scenarios and that Jensen measures intelligence only through Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and Reaction
Times (RTs), in order to illustrate what happens when social awareness recedes into the background,
he offers 14 specific examples that also serve as reasons (181). Warwick extends on Flynn s argument;
his main claim is that within a particular group what is regarded as intelligence is based on a general
consensus, which naturally depends on the culture and values of that society (199). Although they
extend on each others arguments, they have a particular opposing view: Flynn believes that IQ tests
could be an accurate measurement of intelligence if social context was in taken into account; yet
Warwick believes this impossible

Cosmological Arguments On The Existence Of A God
For thousands of years man has pondered a question. A question that is very important as the answer
affects everything that mankind knows about morality, the universe, and the meaning of life itself.
This question has been asked by men and women from all walks of life and it would seem that for
every question answered concerning this topic a dozen more arise. Philosophers to Scientists to Kings
have all pondered this question and this question is whether or not God exists. Now there are various
conceptions of God within philosophy, but the most simple and widely accepted definition would
likely be a metaphysically necessary being. That will be the definition of God for this paper.
Numerous arguments have been put forth for and against the existence of a God, and some can be
grouped together according to their type. Examples of these arguments range from teleological
arguments to axiological arguments to cosmological arguments (to name a few). The following paper
will focus on cosmological arguments, in particular the Argument from Contingency. Ancient
philosophers would look at the stars and would marvel at their beauty and would point to their
structure as an indication of the order within the universe. These ancient thinkers would take this as a
sign of the existence of gods/god. With time came those who put forth arguments that drew from what
was seen in the night sky to argue for the existence of their god/gods. Notable names like Plato and
Aristotle are just a few

Integrative Approach For Counseling And Its Effects On...
Integrative Approach to Counseling
Key Concepts
The central idea in an integrative approach to counseling is one of a patient s ability to affect their life
through the choices they make. William Glasser suggests most people s unhappiness stems from the
lack of meaningful relationships, and most relationships are either successful or a disaster based on the
choices we make (Corey, 2013). Patients are able to positively or negatively impact their mental well
being by making choices that deepen their interpersonal relationships.
Expanding on Glasser s ideas, existentialism and the choices it offers, gives an individual the
opportunity to experience freedom. They are no longer tied to a deterministic view of life, but are
instead given license to create the life they wish to have, unencumbered by the weight of societal,
cultural, or familial expectations (Corey, 2013).
Both choice theory and existentialism closely mirror ideas taught in Protestant Christianity: people are
free to make choices about their behavior and lifestyle, and all choices have an outcome. That
outcome can be positive (salvation), or negative (damnation). If one believes the rules as explained in
the Bible, the outcome of one s life rests in their choices.
Counselor s role
In most cases, the counselor will best serve their client by taking on a not knowing role in the
relationship, allowing the client to become the expert in their own lives (Corey, 2013).

Distribution of Work in the European Council
What is the influence of the President of the European Council Herman von Rompuy and High
Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton? The answer to
this question is very debatable. Catherine Ashton obtains many functions, the most known is that she
is the High representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security policy. But she is also the
First Vice President of the European Commission and has many other duties such as chairing the
Foreign Affairs council and representing the European Union in international fora. Only her titles
alone take up three lines to write, just imagine how can she manage to fulfill all these duties properly.
That s right, she can t do all those duties at 100 percent. And on the other hand we have Herman Van
Rompuy who is the President of the European Council and his duties include chairing the European
Council meeting and occasional representation of the EU in the international meetings. Although this
may seem as a tough job to do, in comparison with Catherine Ashton we could even say that he isn t
really doing anything. His chairing duty calls only twice per six months. This is utterly shocking. We
do not consider this optimal distribution of work. This also leads to creation of job positions, which
don t serve any real purpose. This is maybe one of the problems of EU, lack of common sense and
unreasonable complicating of things that could be solved much easier and in

Social Responsibilities And Moral Character Of Business
Social Responsibilities and Moral Character of Business
Milton Friedman was a 20th century American economist who advocated free market capitalism. In
1970 he submitted an editorial article entitled The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase its
Profits to the New York Times. In the article, Friedman argues that in free market systems it is
nonsensical to make corporate entities adhere to social responsibilities of business pushed by activists,
as corporations are artificial in nature, and thus do not have any social responsibilities other than to
make money for the shareholders of the company. I will argue against this paper and support the claim
corporations do in fact have moral and ethical obligations to more than just their shareholders, and that
many individuals have their stakes and livelihoods embedded within the acts of corporations. As well,
the idea in the article that corporations are not moral agents has led to unsavory violations of human
rights across the world, failing Kant s second formulation of the Categorical Imperative, as well as not
satisfying Act Utilitarianism. Thus, corporations, and individuals within those corporations, possess
considerable ability to make ethical decisions that have great impact to many people, culminating in
the truth that corporations have moral status. Friedman often surrounds ideas that he feels are
nonsensical with quotation marks in order to make the ideas seem out of touch with any sort of

Essentially, the military equivalent completes the same tasks, but reports on different types of stories.
All in all, the civilian component focuses on the widespread news. Examples of widespread news are:
presidential elections, crimes, weather, or other important community events. These stories revolve

and the joint task forces (JTFs) with a directed imagery capability in support of operational and
planning requirements during wartime operations, worldwide crises, contingencies, and joint

Overall, the mission is relatively simple: gather footage of combat situations on the group and present
the footage to various levels of command. The footage will then be analyzed to determine combat
effectiveness, situational status in the area, and provide historical documentation of wars the United
States is involved in. Furthermore, the footage can be used on a strategic level for planning. All in all,
the COMCAM mission is vital to the success of the U.S. troops. Also, footage taken from Haiti or
other areas destroyed by natural disasters are recorded by combat camera. Then, this footage is shown
on the news networks, which contributes to a better understanding of the situation. Aside from the
mission, combat cameramen have contributed historical documentation as well. In fact, most of the
war footage from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan was recorded by
COMCAM. For example, the flag raising at Iwo Jima was recorded by a combat cameraman. This
footage is a landmark in the history of the United States and it shown often in history books or on T.V.

It Has Been Argued That Canadian Environmentalism Occurred
It has been argued that Canadian environmentalism occurred in a series of waves throughout the
countries growth and development. Upon colonization the Canadian landscape was abundant in
resources, the opportunities limitless. Over the course of a century industrialization had swept the
nation. The rapid depletion of resources initiated the development of numerous private organizations
that sought to control, maintain, and ensure longevity of such resources. This force would continue to
reshape along with the industrial demands and ever changing landscape. It is imperative to provide
context regarding the evolution of the environmental movement that took place in Canada, in order to

Gradually conservationist efforts of resource preservation developed, characterizing North America s
first wave of environmentalism.
Individuals involved within Canada s forestry industry developed many of the earliest conservation
efforts. The rapid depletion of Canadian forests forced many to advocate for the development of
controlled harvesting and reserved areas. By 1900, the Canadian Forestry Association was established.
Despite Canada s earliest efforts, their neighbours to the south were generally further advanced with
their efforts. Such gap in national efforts can be viewed as a matter of population differences,
industrial expansion, and economic circumstances. The American settlements were much further
developed in many respects than their counterparts, and had demonstrated anthropogenic harm
throughout their growth. In 1909, American President Theodore Roosevelt, invited both Mexico and
Canada to join the United States at the North American Conservation Conference. This conference
would lead to the establishment of Canada s Commission of Conservation.
Canada s Commission of Conservation developed recommendations and environmental ethics that can
be viewed as the seeds of modern environmentalism. The development of national parks also
illustrates the difference between American and Canadian conservation. In 1885, Banff became
Canada s first national park, while their neighbours had established their first national park,

The Ethical Issues Of Abortion
Introduction
There are numerous ethical issues that can develop in labor and delivery whether this issue influences
the mother, baby, or both. In healthcare, it is an obligation for the provider to give ideal care,
treatment, and prevent harm to patients while making ethical choices. Here and there, these choices
aren t highly contrasting and providers must outweigh benefits versus harm in order to give the best
care possible for mother and baby. One case of an ethical issues that emerges in obstetrics is late
abortion in raped victim women.

to painful stimuli and these responses were diminished when pain medication was administered to

that they can feel pain (Cohen Sayeed, 2011).
Cons
On the other hand, the against life or pro abortion support abortion of fetus for many reasons. There
are many times when abortion may be the best and only option for continuing live. One and most
painful reason to mother is when rape occur. Rape is an act of violence, not a natural act of intercourse
and intimate relationship between two. Rape wounds respect, freedom, physical and moral integrity
which every person has the right to. In other words, raped victim did not choose to be pregnant for this
reason she should not be forced to carry rapist s baby against her will. Also some of the rape victims
may be minors and not be mentally or physically prepared to take care of themselves and the newborn
baby after delivering. (Ladock)

A Streetcar Named Desire was written by Tennessee Williams in 1947. The play is set during this
same time period, the 1940s, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The story follows Blanche DuBois, a woman
who goes to live with her sister, Stella, and Stella s husband, Stanley. The play mainly follows the
tense relationship between Blanche and Stanley; from the beginning, they do not get along. For
example, at the beginning of the play, Blanche announces to Stella that their childhood home, Belle
Reve, was lost. Stanley believes that she is lying; he believes that she sold the property and is hiding
money from him and Stella. Also, Blanche believes that Stanley is not right for Stella; she believes

Causes Of The Holocaust
Nobody has the right to criticise or diminish the suffering of others when they have not endured the
same pain themselves. So why is it that there are still people in our world today who are heartless
enough to repudiate the facts from the mass murder and systematic annihilation of the Holocaust;
debatably the most cold blooded crime in human history?
How can anyone be be so ignorant to believe that this event was either exaggerated or simply didn t
happen? How can anyone ignore the mountains of irrefutable evidence; the supported statistics, the
eyewitness testimonies, the books, the films, the photos and the harrowing interviews of survivors?
How can they think that these are embellished, magnified or fiction? This conspiracy theory is
contributing to the unfading problem of prejudice, and those who believe in it are playing a part in the
machinery of Anti Semitism. The cynic s fallacy of history and acceptance of racism, makes them
worthy of comparison to the SS slaughterers themselves.
What I do not understand is how, after the extent of human suffering the Holocaust victims endured,
how anyone could be so heartless as to question their hardships? The Holocaust was the systematic
victimisation and annihilation of an estimated six million Jews by the Nazi collaboration during World
War Two. This included the innocent deaths of 91% of Polish Jews, 110000 Jewish children, two
thirds of the entire Jewish population, 200000 disabled persons. The list goes on. It is arguably

The Importance Of Mimes In The Roman Empire
In the Roman Empire, in its early years there was a great confrontation between the Romans and the
Christians. At this point in time Christianity was a new and growing religion. These Christians
believed that their God was the only God. They didn t create idols of Him or build Him temples as the
Romans did to their gods. These Christians also had another problem with the Romans and that was
their theatre. They didn t have a problem with comedies or tragedies but with Mimes. According to the
text it says that Because some mimes included sex and violence as part of the performance and
because many of them mocked Christianity, Christian writers and believers demanded unsuccessfully
the outlawing of the theatre of their time, which is to say, mime and pantomime. They were
unsuccessful in the outlawing of mimes and pantomimes but in 313 CE the Emperor Constantine
issued the Edict of Milan and proclaimed religious tolerance to the Christians in the empire. The
Christians were unable to hinder the mime movement and it became even bigger with other
entertainment becoming just as excessive as mimes were considered to be.

Later that day the car driver made a wrong turn. Luckily for Princip, he was on the same street. He

multiple times. One bullet hit Ferdinand s wife in the stomach, killing the baby and herself. Another
bullet hit the Archduke and killed him as well. Princip was arrested by the Serbian military. Austria
Hungary issued a formal diplomatic representation of their view, which was known as the July

Another cause of WW1 was the rise in Nationalism. Nationalism was a feeling that people had of

people wanted to be a real force in the world. People started to believe in their countries. When belief

Death of a Salesman Family Relationships Essay
Battle between Father and Son Family relationships always have a way of playing a key role for the
duration of most literary pieces. According to Arthur Miller s novel, Death of a Salesman, the
interaction of Willy and his sons, Happy and Biff, shows that family ties usually are connected either
physically or emotionally in some way or another. Willy Loman is just like every father in a father/son
bond, yet all he wants is to be a part of his son s life. Even though Biff and Happy admire and have so

All Willy really wants is to be a part of his son s lives and, Miller shows this by the example of when
in the play Biff comes home to recollect himself, Willy seems to think this as a failure because he
would rather see his eldest son be likely more successful rather than his youngest, Happy. Hereafter,
Willy tries to take matter into his own hands, I ll get him a job selling, he could be big in no time , he
says to Linda (1215). Partially due to Willy s consistency in Biff s life conflicts start to erupt more
partially to do with the fact being that they had different ideas of what the American Dream really is.
With Biff believing that the most inspiring job to a man is working outdoors, his father disregarded by
saying that working on the road selling was the greatest job a man could possibly have (1276). The
boys are clearly not at all fully functioning adults because of their upbringing throughout their life.
Another major issue in the play with the father/son relationship between Willy and his sons is the
amount of love shown towards them. The continuous support from growing up had molded the
Lomans into men who always fled back home whenever a problem approached. Biff says to Willy, I
never got anywhere because you blew me so full of hot air I could not stand taking orders from
anybody! (1275). The Loman brothers were babied so much all through their

United States Tax System
Many in the United States wonder if the tax system is fair? The U.S. tax system is setup on both a
federal and state level. There are several types of taxes: income, sales, and capital gains. Federal and
state taxes are completely separate and each has its own authority to charge taxes. The federal
government does not have the right to interfere with state taxation. The U.S tax system is unfair due to
the fact that the rich have to pay more tax than the poor which is very concerning for most rich class
people. Over the years, the tax system has been drastically changing since the 1950 s. Taxation would
go high and low which affected Americans briefly.

According to Christian Science Monitor , The United States tax system has almost always been
progressive, meaning the richer you become, the higher percentage of your income you have to pay to
the government (Grier, 2012, p.1). Grier alludes to the government as being politicians to the economy
and to the citizens for making them pay taxes no matter what the costs. This is how the American
dream has been flawed due to the fact that all citizens must pay a certain percentage of taxes when in
reality some do not have the sufficient earnings for them to pay at a high cost. For Instance from The
Wall Street Journal , the most recent IRS data shows that the top 5% of earners bring in 37% of the
income but pay 60% of the federal individual income taxes. The bottom half of earners bring home
12% of the income but pay 3% of the taxes (Brooks, 2010, p. 2). Brooks gives the idea that the
citizens from different classes have different percentages of taxation. That does not precisely mean
that all citizens pay different amount of taxes. Mostly all must pay the same tax in order for the
economy to roll by safely. In the end, The government has overspent for years wich turns to tax
increases instead of spending cuts simply for the sake of fairness and that is simply

Obesity is also associated with sour burps because it increases abdominal pressure and contributes to

4. Pregnancy
Pregnancy is another factor associated with acid reflux and sour burps. An enlarging uterus increases
intra abdominal pressure while pregnancy hormones act on the LES, making acid reflux common in
many pregnant women. Other pregnancy related factors that may contribute to sour burps include
shortness of breath, anemia, easy fatigue, air swallowing, and overeating.
5. Smoking
Tobacco smoking and tobacco chewing can cause sour burps in various ways, including air
swallowing, weakening of the LES, and increased stomach acid production due to the stimulant effect
of nicotine and other chemicals found in tobacco.
6. Digestive Disorders
Digestive disorders may weaken the LES, delay emptying of your stomach, or produce excessive
stomach acids, contributing to sour burps. This is common with disorders like:
 Gastroparesis
 Gastrinoma
 Hiatal hernia
 Pyloric stenosis
 Intestinal motility disorders

It was clear that he had something important to tell the King.
What bloody man is this? said Duncan. I can see he s just come from the battlefield so he ll be able to
give us the latest news.
Ah! exclaimed Malcolm. This is the sergeant who struggled so valiantly to save me from captivity.
Hello, brave friend. Tell the King how things stand.
The man winced. His breathing was laboured but his eyes shone. It was on a knife edge, he said. The
armies were like two spent swimmers clinging together to prevent themselves from drowning. Then
the merciless Macdonwald the sergeant spat with disgust that most vile of men! brought in some
reinforcements from the western isles. After that fortune began smiling on him.
Duncan and his sons exchanged glances. Lennox, a close ally of the King, was there too. Their faces
expressed the seriousness of the situation.
But it was all in vain, continued the sergeant. He tried a smile and winced again. Because brave
Macbeth how well he deserves that name! disregarding his own safety, brandishing his sword, which
smoked with hot blood, carved his way through the troops until he faced the cursed rebel. He didn t
stop no handshakes or farewells until he had unseamed him from the navel to the jaw and fixed his
head on our battlements.
Oh! exclaimed Duncan. Valiant cousin! Worthy gentleman!
But it wasn t over yet, said the sergeant. Can you believe this, King of
Scotland?

The Role Of Truman In Dropping The Atomic Bomb
Truman wanted to drop the atomic bomb on Japan, saying that it will end the war immediately. It was
the easiest military decision he ever made. Truman was at least as much concerned with the role of the
atomic bomb in the shaping of history as in its capacity to shorten the war. It would not only shorten
the war, but also an early Japanese surrender would preclude Russian entry into the war, stopping the
Soviets not only from participating in the occupation of Japan but also from advancing through China
on the way. Admiral King said he wished to emphasize the point that, regardless of the desirability of
the Russians entering the war, they were not indispensable and he did not think the Americans should
go so far as to beg the Russians

Cystic Fibrosis Pathophysiology
Describe the pathophysiology and signs and symptoms of cystic Fibrosis (CF). Kaneshiro describes
cystic Fibrosis as a system wide disease process that affects the mucous production of organs from the
time of birth, most commonly affecting the lungs and intestines (2014). He goes on to say that this is a
hereditary disease that is most commonly found in the first 2 years of a child s life and the symptoms
start out as mild and can be easily overlooked, which accounts for the late diagnosis even though the
disease started at birth (2014). The most common early life symptoms include a lack of stools in the
first couple of days after birth and salty tasting skin though as the child ages there is a significant lack
of developmental growth and lack of weight gain along with frequent respiratory infections and
constipation (Kaneshiro, 2014). The life expectancy of a child with CF currently is at around 37 years
old when that child receives extensive early treatment for the side effects of CF, though there is no
cure at this time, though the treatments are getting more effective every year (Kaneshiro, 2014). ...

the only condition that can be a result of this mutation and if a mutation is found on this gene it is not
a definite result that the child will have CF and will need further testing in order to determine what the
physical manifestation of the mutation will be (Cystic Fibrosis,

Ethics Of Organ Donation Essay
Today the demand for organ transplantation is increasing; the need has outgrown the supply and the
waiting lists are long. According to UNOS, currently 118,000 people are waiting for an organ
transplant. There are more transplant specialists, the immune rejection has improved, more transplants
are being performed than ever before and the future will demand even more.
Ethical obligations of the doctors, nature of death, allocation of organs by fairness and justice which
includes: most urgent need, organ compatibility, age of the patient, length of time on a waiting list and
who can benefit the most are the standards being studied today. The illegal black market sales are a
big ethical problem that urgently needs solutions. In an medical emergency, especially sudden death, a
decision must be made quickly to remove and deliver ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many thinkers, philosophers and lawmakers have tired to explain logic and reason driven life s big
questions.
Immanuel Kant, the 18th Century philosopher believed that moral conduct consists in following a rule
that is valid for all rational beings and a moral duty can be to oneself as well as to other human beings

of Medicine and Philosophy, 30:167 188, p.172 173.
Today s policies aimed at increasing organ donation and to encourage gifting are becoming a part of
education of the younger generation, there is no mandatory organ retrieval, the family wishes, donor
consent and right to decide to donate before death are respected, selling is prohibited and organ
donation banks with lists of donors and recipients have been established. The United Network for
Organ Sharing (UNOS) created in 1984 which works 24/7 provides a computerized medical and

Business Recommendations for Big Drive Auto
Economic influences play a major role in the success of a company especially when consumers are
hesitant on spending or investing their disposable income or have many choices of who they will
purchase from. Demand shifts influence profitability, which has a direct effect on the company s
ability to remain successful. Companies must carefully analyze the industry within they fall and
understand how economic influences will affect their functions and infrastructure. Big Drive Auto
Company is a major player in the market of automobile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When it comes to pricing Big Drive Auto actually tries to be competitive instead of undermining their
competitors because they know that using the profit maximization strategy is least effective when the
market reacts rapidly to changes in the marketing mix.
Big Drive Auto, like other firms, has visions of expanding more however to increase their number of
locations the company would have to determine product pricing based on the new location, taxes,
mean incomes for consumers, and how many competitors are currently saturated in that particular
market area. Big Drive Auto strives to keep their prices reasonable and within the selling market of its
competitors to sort of offset any type of a price war between them. One alternative is to band together
with other competitors to discuss market strategy options. One of those options could be to reach an
agreement to fix prices, divide up the market, or otherwise restrict competition among themselves
(McConnell, et. al., 2009, p. 236). This option could cease any kind of price war from happening and
keep prices competitive with all the oligopoly firms.
Non pricing Barriers to Entry and Product Differentiation
Non pricing barriers to entry exist among automobile sales, automobile products as well as automobile
deals. The included barriers consist of

Neanderthal Extinction Essay
Neanderthal Extinction
Neanderthals and modern humans coexisted for well over 100,000 years. Then suddenly Homo
neandertalensis began to die out and surrender the earth to Homo sapiens. Paleontologists and
anthropologists have entertained several possibilities to the causes of this event: interbreeding among
Neanderthals and humans, competition for natural resources, and Darwin s theory of survival of the
fittest. What the real cause has been has plagued scientists for years. Now, due to an international
research team from Germany, those possibilities have been even further deduced, making it easier to
pinpoint the exact reason Homo neandertalensis became extinct. Scientists thought that interbreeding
would be a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fossils which passed the amino acid tests were called transitional elements between the two
species. They represented a part of Europe where the Neanderthals and early humans would have
more than likely encountered each other. The same DNA sequence was found in Neanderthals and
early humans, but also in ancient cave bears from Croatia and Austria. This made the researchers
skeptical of their findings and decided to test for mtDNA stands. When the fossils were further
analyzed, the researchers found that the mtDNA embedded in the Neanderthal fossils was of a
different strain than that in the early humans, which was of course, different from that of the ancient
cave bears. So what does this all mean for the modern world? For starters, it brings scientists one step
closer to finalizing the evolution debate. With ruling out this one possibility, the origins of modern
humans become easier to indicate and easier to prove. By learning where we came from, we, as
humans, can better understand ourselves. We learn about our ancestors and how they lived how they
survived. We also learn about our relatives, how they functioned, and what caused them to fall. Tactics
of survival are discovered that may still be relevant today. There are still missing pieces to the grand
puzzle of history, but our newfound knowledge of mtDNA has made it easier for us to comprehend
what exactly happened those hundreds

Management of Old growth Forests in the Pacific Northwest
When westward expansion brought settlers to the Northwest in the 1800s, they discovered that
coniferous trees forty feet in circumference [that] shot two hundred feet straight up flourished in the
forests of the Pacific coast (Ervin 55). These early pioneers found the opportunity for economic
growth in logging these vast forests of towering trees unlike any they had seen before. Today, the
timber industry still remains the backbone of economic support for Washington, Oregon, and
northwestern California, but an inevitable conflict has arisen between humans and our environment. A
struggle over the control of the use of the old growth forests threatens the balance of the ... Show more

On July 23, 1990, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, under the pressure of environmentalists and
scientific studies, listed the spotted owl as a threatened species, one step away from endangered, and
entitled themselves to protecting the owl from hunting, trading, or federal action that could destroy its
breeding or feeding grounds (Carey 13). This listing came on the heels of years of extensive studies of
the spotted owl and its habitat conducted by environmental groups, the timber industry, and
governmental researchers. These studies resulted in recommendations, such as the one made in early
1990 by a committee headed by the U.S. Forest Service s chief, Jack Ward Thomas, calling for 30 40
percent of public forests to be exempted from logging to protect the remaining 3000 6000 owl pairs in
the Northwest. Yet, by late 1990, there had been no decrease in the rate of logging to accommodate the
owl (Abate 8).
As early as 1971, biologists had warned the Forest Service and the timber industry that old growth
logging could endanger the spotted owl, which is a slow breeder. Studies have shown that the spotted
owl s major prey, the red tree vole and the Northern flying squirrel, thrive in the environment of the
protective old growth forest and that when the forest that an owl lives in is logged, it will travel
hundreds of miles to feed in distant ancient forests. As each acre of ancient trees falls, the

Analysis Of The Duel In Founding Brothers
Joseph J Ellis included The Duel in his book, Founding Brothers to show the extreme complexity
behind the relationship between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. This duel is normally
represented in a short few lines that includes the date, the location, the outcome, and little details
about the fashion in which they dueled. Although these representations are short and concise, they do
not give the duel the justice it deserves. Ellis model does so by adding a lot more detail to help the
audience understand it was more than a short and random interaction. Ellis explains how in order to
understand the duel, one must examine the many and intricate causes of it, rather than what actually
happened in those few seconds on top of the cliff in Weehawken, New Jersey. Ellis record of the most
famous duel in American History can be used as a historical reference for the songs Your Obedient
Servant and The World Was Wide Enough that are a part of the Hamilton soundtrack. One thing that
was made sure after reading this book and listening to this song is that Lin Manuel Miranda did his
research and made the songs in his soundtrack as historically accurate as possible. Your Obedient
Servant is the song in the musical that reference the letters Hamilton and Burr wrote back and forth
leading up to the duel. These letters speaks about their many interactions in which one of them won
over the other. Hamilton did many things in order to keep Burr away from gaining powerful positions

  • 2. Essay about Tourette Syndrome Tourette Syndrome Works Cited Not Included Tourette Syndrome was named for George Gilles de la Tourette, who first discovered the syndrome in 1885. Today there is still a mystery surrounding the disorder, it?s causes and it?s cures. But one of the biggest mysteries is an associated behavior called coprolalia. This symptom is the uncontrolled swearing or socially unacceptable utterances that some with Tourettes experience. Although despite the media?s fascination, Tourette syndrome is not the cursing disease many believe it to be. This baffling neurological disorder is characterized by repetitive motor and/or vocal tics. The identifying symptom of TS seems to be tic disorders. ?A tic is a brief, repetitive, purposeless, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also utterances of insults and racial comments (Bruun 41). This seems the most commonly recognized tic disorder of Tourettes. When most think of Tourette they automatically assume the random cussing. Actually this seems to be a rare symptom. ?Coprolalia, the symptom that the general public associates most often with TS, and it is not common?(Bruun 41). It only occurs it a small minority of TS individuals. The numbers are an estimated 5 30% as reported by the Tourette Syndrome Association in 1993. Some relate the coming on of an inappropriate word as hard to control as a sneeze. They can feel it coming on but are unable to control it even with medication (Michigan 1). One of the characteristics of coprolalia that sets it apart from just simply swearing is that words come out compulsively. Most often when a person is angry but even if they are just under stress (Kozlowski 1). Causes of TS are still being debated and most leads are pointing to genetic factors. The understanding of it seems to be incomplete and unfinished. But in 1999 researchers announced that they had found evidence suggesting a link between chromosomes 4 and 8 and TS. Though there still is no clearly identified gene to date. So all they can conclude is if one parent has TS there is a 50/50 chance for the child to carry it unless it is liked by gender (Packer 5). A study done by Dr. Ruth Bruun indicated a tendency toward a decrease in severity as patients grow in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about The Effect of Video Game Violence on Youths Does exposure to violence in video games, on TV, and in social media have an effect on those exposed to it? Are those who are underage more susceptible to any detrimental side effects from viewing these things? This has long been a topic of discussion among lawmakers, psychologists, and the scientific field as a whole. It concerns parents and community members, especially in the wake of a seeming rise in violence at school from bullying, fighting, or in the extreme cases of school shootings. Were any of these types of incidents encouraged by exposure to violence in media? The first stating that these games increase violence by teaching the players how to be violent, then rewarding them in game for violent activities. (Hall, Day, and Hall) Findings supporting these claims also show that with an increase in violence comes other negative health risks such as an increased likelihood of substance abuse, sexual activity, and obesity(Denniston, Swahn, Feldman, and Romero). Media use, and subsequent exposure to violent content is extremely prevalent among 8 to 18 year old children who spend, on average, 7.4 hours a day using media or computers and 80% of teens have some type of gaming console(Denniston, Swahn, Feldman, and Romero) These claims and the amount of media children are exposed to were concerning enough that the American Academy of Pediatrics started making advisory statements about violent video games and media being health risks for children in 2001. (Hall, Day, and Hall) Since then the link between violent games and violent behavior in youths has been researched across many population groups (Denniston, Swahn, Feldman, and Romero). The second theory revolves around any positive effects that might be gained from playing these games (Hall, Day, and Hall). Stating that these may offer safe outlets for negative emotions and thusly allowing players to be more emotionally balanced. (Hall, Day, and Hall) Data regarding the effects of violence in video ... To build an understanding of how communities of practice create organizational value, we suggest thinking of a community as an engine for the development of social capital. We argue that the social capital resident in communities of practice leads to behavioral changes, which in turn positively influence business performance. We identify four specific performance outcomes associated with the communities of practice we studied and link these outcomes to the basic dimensions of social capital. These dimensions include connections among practitioners who may or may not be co located; relationships that build a sense of trust and mutual obligation, and a common language and context that can be shared by community members. Our conclusions are based on a study of seven organizations where communities of practice are acknowledged to be creating value. Communities of practice and Knowledge management Wasko and Faraj (2000) describe three kinds of knowledge: knowledge as object , knowledge embedded within individuals , and knowledge embedded in a community . Communities of Practice have become associated with finding, sharing, transferring, and archiving knowledge, as well as making explicit expertise , or tacit knowledge. This essay will focus on: the early evolution of our eukaryote ancestor during Precambrian period, plastids origin along the algae family due to second endosymbiosis; discuss the evidence that supports the theory, including further examples of endosymbiosis. The theory, as discussed by Lynn Margulis, states that mitochondria originated from α proteobacteria bacterium which was engulfed by the ancestral anaerobic eukaryotic cell, through endocytosis, and retained within the cytoplasm due to atmospheric oxygen increase. They all have a double membrane chloroplasts, but the glaucophytes plastid morphology is unusual because it resembles cyanobacteria, as they still include the outer peptidoglycan layer between the chloroplast envelopes, and also resemble Chlorophyta and Rhodophyta plastid. Both Rhodophyta and Glaucophyta consist of various features that are derived from the cyanobacteria but absent from Chlorophyta. These are phycobilins pigments and phycobilisomes on the surface on thylakoid membranes. Because of sequencing algae chloroplast genomes it is evident that glaucophytes, rhodophytes and chlorophytes have evolved from a second endosymbiotic event, since they are closely related to the ancestral cyanobacteria (Tomitani, 2006). Alternatively, some algal groups have chloroplast with more than a double membrane, such as photosynthetic dinoflagellates and stramenophile, implying that secondary endosymbiosis occurred due to heterotrophic eukaryote engulfing chloroplast containing eukaryote. The secondary endosymbiosis event is suggested as nucleomorphs , traces of primary host s nucleus, are present in the periplastid space between the second and third chloroplast membranes of cryptomonads and chlorarachniophytes. In the cryptomonads the nucleomorphs is formed due to the reduction of red algal nucleus and in the chlorarachniophytes due to the reduction of green algal nucleus. Thus, plants had multiple endosymbiotic events and each evolved independently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There s a heavy light that falls over the earth, red and orange light hit the hilltops just perfectly at sunset. The beauty in autumn is one I will never get over, the memories it brings when I feel the cold air hit my skin is all worth the leaves falling and showing their bare branches. Autumn is my favorite season because of the weather, the beauty it has, and the comfort it brings to me. Finally getting relief from the hot summer sun is one of my favorite reasons why I adore autumn. I m always anxious waiting for the day I can shut off my air conditioner and open a window to reveal the sweat breeze. The neutral temperature is perfect for outdoor activities. Like grilling for a BBQ, taking a long walk or hike, or playing some games outside. Breathing in the natural air always feels amazing, it makes it easier. Sweating is not ideal, so when its autumn and the hot weather is finally gone I feel a sense of relief that I m not drenched from head to toe. Essay on Analysis of Birches Analysis of Birches The discursive blank verse meditation Birches does not center on a continuously encountered and revealing nature scene; rather, it builds a mosaic of thoughts from fragments of memory and fantasy. Its vividness and genial, bittersweet speculation help make it one of Frost s most popular poems, and because its shifts of metaphor and tone invite varying interpretation it has also received much critical discussion, not always admiring. The poem moves back and forth between two visual perspectives: birch trees as bent by boys playful swinging and by ice storms, the thematic interweaving being somewhat puzzling. Frost s speaker then self consciously breaks from his realistic but metaphorically fantasied digression to say he would prefer to have some boy bend the birches, which action becomes a symbol for controlled experience, as contrasted with the genial fatality of ice storms. The boy s fancied playfulness substitutes for unavailable companionship, making for a thoughtful communion with nature, which rather than teach him wisdom allows him to learn it. Despite the insistence on the difference between ice storms permanent damage to birches and a boy s temporary effects, the boy subdues and conquers the trees. His swinging is practice for maintaining life s difficult and precarious balances. The third part of the poem begins with a more personal and philosophical tone. The speaker claims to have been such a youthful swinger of birches, an activity he can go back to only by dreaming. The birch trees, probably both ice bent and boy swung, stand for the order and control missing from ordinary experience. The considerations he is weary of are conflicting claims that leave him disoriented and stung. • 18. Feminist Spirituality and Goddess Religion Essay Feminist Spirituality and Goddess Religion Thousands of years ago, the Goddess was viewed as an autonomous entity worthy of respect from men and women alike. Because of societal changes caused by Eastern influence, a patriarchial system conquered all aspects of life including religion. Furthermore, most feminists interested in goddesses are women who strongly reject western patriarchal theology (Culpepper 51). Thus, there was this very strong feminist idea of women being the prime in the early part of the 17th and the 18th century. Today, the loss of a strong female presence in Judeo Christian beliefs has prompted believers to look to other sources that celebrate the role of women. Men and women have increasingly embraced goddess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of these so called religions would be Christianity including the Roman Catholic Church, Protestants, European Religions and also Judaism who thought of as god being male i.e. Jesus. Goddess worship was gradually combined with worship of male Gods to produce a variety of Pagan religions, thus losing some of its singular focus on the female as a deity. Goddess Worship during the Christian era was molded by more dominant outside forces. As Judaism, Christianity eventually Islam evolved, the Pagan religions were suppressed and the female principle was gradually driven out of religion. Consequently women were reduced to a level inferior to men. The God, King, Priest Father replaced the Goddess, Queen, Priestess Mother (Miles 24). A woman s testimony was not considered significant in courts, women were not allowed to speak in churches, and positions of authority in the church were (almost without exception) limited to men. A feminine presence was added to Christianity when the Virgin Mary was named Theotokos (Mother of God). However, her role was heavily restricted and included none of the fertility components present in Pagan religions. A low point in the life of women was reached during the Renaissance, when hundreds of thousands of suspected female witches were exterminated being burned and hanged. At the turn of the century, scholars began writing about a Mother Goddess . By the 1950s, Gerald Gardner ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Flawed Intelligence Is Not Easily Measured Itzamar Torres Instructor Camielyn West MCWP 40 08 February 2016 Flawed Intelligence Intelligence is not easily measured; there are many factors that influence the way we determine whether or not someone is considered intelligent , and many more to rank who is more intelligent than others. James R. Flynn, in his piece The Sociological Imagination, and Kevin Warwick, in his work Into the Unknown, both share a common argument: intelligence is subjective; therefore, social and environmental context should be considered. Both authors expand on the idea of nature versus nurture. Flynn s main claim is that the way that intelligence is measured is flawed which is supported by his use of sub claims and evidence, such as intelligence is dependent on social scenarios and that Jensen measures intelligence only through Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and Reaction Times (RTs), in order to illustrate what happens when social awareness recedes into the background, he offers 14 specific examples that also serve as reasons (181). Warwick extends on Flynn s argument; his main claim is that within a particular group what is regarded as intelligence is based on a general consensus, which naturally depends on the culture and values of that society (199). Although they extend on each others arguments, they have a particular opposing view: Flynn believes that IQ tests could be an accurate measurement of intelligence if social context was in taken into account; yet Warwick believes this impossible ... • 20. Cosmological Arguments On The Existence Of A God For thousands of years man has pondered a question. A question that is very important as the answer affects everything that mankind knows about morality, the universe, and the meaning of life itself. This question has been asked by men and women from all walks of life and it would seem that for every question answered concerning this topic a dozen more arise. Philosophers to Scientists to Kings have all pondered this question and this question is whether or not God exists. Now there are various conceptions of God within philosophy, but the most simple and widely accepted definition would likely be a metaphysically necessary being. That will be the definition of God for this paper. Numerous arguments have been put forth for and against the existence of a God, and some can be grouped together according to their type. Examples of these arguments range from teleological arguments to axiological arguments to cosmological arguments (to name a few). The following paper will focus on cosmological arguments, in particular the Argument from Contingency. Ancient philosophers would look at the stars and would marvel at their beauty and would point to their structure as an indication of the order within the universe. These ancient thinkers would take this as a sign of the existence of gods/god. With time came those who put forth arguments that drew from what was seen in the night sky to argue for the existence of their god/gods. Notable names like Plato and Aristotle are just a few ... • 21. Integrative Approach For Counseling And Its Effects On... Integrative Approach to Counseling Key Concepts The central idea in an integrative approach to counseling is one of a patient s ability to affect their life through the choices they make. William Glasser suggests most people s unhappiness stems from the lack of meaningful relationships, and most relationships are either successful or a disaster based on the choices we make (Corey, 2013). Patients are able to positively or negatively impact their mental well being by making choices that deepen their interpersonal relationships. Expanding on Glasser s ideas, existentialism and the choices it offers, gives an individual the opportunity to experience freedom. They are no longer tied to a deterministic view of life, but are instead given license to create the life they wish to have, unencumbered by the weight of societal, cultural, or familial expectations (Corey, 2013). Both choice theory and existentialism closely mirror ideas taught in Protestant Christianity: people are free to make choices about their behavior and lifestyle, and all choices have an outcome. That outcome can be positive (salvation), or negative (damnation). If one believes the rules as explained in the Bible, the outcome of one s life rests in their choices. Counselor s role In most cases, the counselor will best serve their client by taking on a not knowing role in the relationship, allowing the client to become the expert in their own lives (Corey, 2013). Distribution of Work in the European Council What is the influence of the President of the European Council Herman von Rompuy and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton? The answer to this question is very debatable. Catherine Ashton obtains many functions, the most known is that she is the High representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security policy. But she is also the First Vice President of the European Commission and has many other duties such as chairing the Foreign Affairs council and representing the European Union in international fora. Only her titles alone take up three lines to write, just imagine how can she manage to fulfill all these duties properly. That s right, she can t do all those duties at 100 percent. And on the other hand we have Herman Van Rompuy who is the President of the European Council and his duties include chairing the European Council meeting and occasional representation of the EU in the international meetings. Although this may seem as a tough job to do, in comparison with Catherine Ashton we could even say that he isn t really doing anything. His chairing duty calls only twice per six months. This is utterly shocking. We do not consider this optimal distribution of work. This also leads to creation of job positions, which don t serve any real purpose. Social Responsibilities And Moral Character Of Business Social Responsibilities and Moral Character of Business Milton Friedman was a 20th century American economist who advocated free market capitalism. In 1970 he submitted an editorial article entitled The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase its Profits to the New York Times. In the article, Friedman argues that in free market systems it is nonsensical to make corporate entities adhere to social responsibilities of business pushed by activists, as corporations are artificial in nature, and thus do not have any social responsibilities other than to make money for the shareholders of the company. I will argue against this paper and support the claim corporations do in fact have moral and ethical obligations to more than just their shareholders, and that many individuals have their stakes and livelihoods embedded within the acts of corporations. As well, the idea in the article that corporations are not moral agents has led to unsavory violations of human rights across the world, failing Kant s second formulation of the Categorical Imperative, as well as not satisfying Act Utilitarianism. Thus, corporations, and individuals within those corporations, possess considerable ability to make ethical decisions that have great impact to many people, culminating in the truth that corporations have moral status. Despite Canada s earliest efforts, their neighbours to the south were generally further advanced with their efforts. Such gap in national efforts can be viewed as a matter of population differences, industrial expansion, and economic circumstances. The American settlements were much further developed in many respects than their counterparts, and had demonstrated anthropogenic harm throughout their growth. In 1909, American President Theodore Roosevelt, invited both Mexico and Canada to join the United States at the North American Conservation Conference. How can anyone ignore the mountains of irrefutable evidence; the supported statistics, the eyewitness testimonies, the books, the films, the photos and the harrowing interviews of survivors? At this point in time Christianity was a new and growing religion. These Christians believed that their God was the only God. They didn t create idols of Him or build Him temples as the Romans did to their gods. These Christians also had another problem with the Romans and that was their theatre. They didn t have a problem with comedies or tragedies but with Mimes. According to the text it says that Because some mimes included sex and violence as part of the performance and because many of them mocked Christianity, Christian writers and believers demanded unsuccessfully the outlawing of the theatre of their time, which is to say, mime and pantomime. They were unsuccessful in the outlawing of mimes and pantomimes but in 313 CE the Emperor Constantine issued the Edict of Milan and proclaimed religious tolerance to the Christians in the empire. The Christians were unable to hinder the mime movement and it became even bigger with other entertainment becoming just as excessive as mimes were considered to be. Hereafter, Willy tries to take matter into his own hands, I ll get him a job selling, he could be big in no time , he says to Linda (1215). There are several types of taxes: income, sales, and capital gains. Federal and state taxes are completely separate and each has its own authority to charge taxes. The federal government does not have the right to interfere with state taxation. The U.S tax system is unfair due to the fact that the rich have to pay more tax than the poor which is very concerning for most rich class people. Over the years, the tax system has been drastically changing since the 1950 s. Taxation would go high and low which affected Americans briefly. The tax system is unfair because those who are wealthy pay more than those that are not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Christian Science Monitor , The United States tax system has almost always been progressive, meaning the richer you become, the higher percentage of your income you have to pay to the government (Grier, 2012, p.1). Grier alludes to the government as being politicians to the economy and to the citizens for making them pay taxes no matter what the costs. This is how the American dream has been flawed due to the fact that all citizens must pay a certain percentage of taxes when in reality some do not have the sufficient earnings for them to pay at a high cost. For Instance from The Wall Street Journal , the most recent IRS data shows that the top 5% of earners bring in 37% of the income but pay 60% of the federal individual income taxes. The bottom half of earners bring home 12% of the income but pay 3% of the taxes (Brooks, 2010, p. 2). Brooks gives the idea that the citizens from different classes have different percentages of taxation. That does not precisely mean that all citizens pay different amount of taxes. Mostly all must pay the same tax in order for the economy to roll by safely. In the end, The government has overspent for years wich turns to tax increases instead of spending cuts simply for the sake of fairness and that is simply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Truman was at least as much concerned with the role of the atomic bomb in the shaping of history as in its capacity to shorten the war. It would not only shorten the war, but also an early Japanese surrender would preclude Russian entry into the war, stopping the Soviets not only from participating in the occupation of Japan but also from advancing through China on the way. Admiral King said he wished to emphasize the point that, regardless of the desirability of the Russians entering the war, they were not indispensable and he did not think the Americans should go so far as to beg the Russians ... Kaneshiro describes cystic Fibrosis as a system wide disease process that affects the mucous production of organs from the time of birth, most commonly affecting the lungs and intestines (2014). He goes on to say that this is a hereditary disease that is most commonly found in the first 2 years of a child s life and the symptoms start out as mild and can be easily overlooked, which accounts for the late diagnosis even though the disease started at birth (2014). The most common early life symptoms include a lack of stools in the first couple of days after birth and salty tasting skin though as the child ages there is a significant lack of developmental growth and lack of weight gain along with frequent respiratory infections and constipation (Kaneshiro, 2014). The life expectancy of a child with CF currently is at around 37 years old when that child receives extensive early treatment for the side effects of CF, though there is no cure at this time, though the treatments are getting more effective every year (Kaneshiro, 2014). ... Big Drive Auto, like other firms, has visions of expanding more however to increase their number of locations the company would have to determine product pricing based on the new location, taxes, mean incomes for consumers, and how many competitors are currently saturated in that particular market area. Big Drive Auto strives to keep their prices reasonable and within the selling market of its competitors to sort of offset any type of a price war between them. One alternative is to band together with other competitors to discuss market strategy options. One of those options could be to reach an agreement to fix prices, divide up the market, or otherwise restrict competition among themselves (McConnell, et. al., 2009, p. 236). This option could cease any kind of price war from happening and keep prices competitive with all the oligopoly firms. Then suddenly Homo neandertalensis began to die out and surrender the earth to Homo sapiens. Paleontologists and anthropologists have entertained several possibilities to the causes of this event: interbreeding among Neanderthals and humans, competition for natural resources, and Darwin s theory of survival of the fittest. What the real cause has been has plagued scientists for years. Now, due to an international research team from Germany, those possibilities have been even further deduced, making it easier to pinpoint the exact reason Homo neandertalensis became extinct. Scientists thought that interbreeding would be a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fossils which passed the amino acid tests were called transitional elements between the two species. They represented a part of Europe where the Neanderthals and early humans would have more than likely encountered each other. The same DNA sequence was found in Neanderthals and early humans, but also in ancient cave bears from Croatia and Austria. This made the researchers skeptical of their findings and decided to test for mtDNA stands. When the fossils were further analyzed, the researchers found that the mtDNA embedded in the Neanderthal fossils was of a different strain than that in the early humans, which was of course, different from that of the ancient cave bears. So what does this all mean for the modern world? For starters, it brings scientists one step closer to finalizing the evolution debate. With ruling out this one possibility, the origins of modern humans become easier to indicate and easier to prove. By learning where we came from, we, as humans, can better understand ourselves. We learn about our ancestors and how they lived how they survived. We also learn about our relatives, how they functioned, and what caused them to fall. Tactics of survival are discovered that may still be relevant today. There are still missing pieces to the grand puzzle of history, but our newfound knowledge of mtDNA has made it easier for us to comprehend what exactly happened those hundreds ... Management of Old growth Forests in the Pacific Northwest When westward expansion brought settlers to the Northwest in the 1800s, they discovered that coniferous trees forty feet in circumference [that] shot two hundred feet straight up flourished in the forests of the Pacific coast (Ervin 55). These early pioneers found the opportunity for economic growth in logging these vast forests of towering trees unlike any they had seen before. Today, the timber industry still remains the backbone of economic support for Washington, Oregon, and northwestern California, but an inevitable conflict has arisen between humans and our environment. A struggle over the control of the use of the old growth forests threatens the balance of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On July 23, 1990, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, under the pressure of environmentalists and scientific studies, listed the spotted owl as a threatened species, one step away from endangered, and entitled themselves to protecting the owl from hunting, trading, or federal action that could destroy its breeding or feeding grounds (Carey 13). This listing came on the heels of years of extensive studies of the spotted owl and its habitat conducted by environmental groups, the timber industry, and governmental researchers. These studies resulted in recommendations, such as the one made in early 1990 by a committee headed by the U.S. Forest Service s chief, Jack Ward Thomas, calling for 30 40 percent of public forests to be exempted from logging to protect the remaining 3000 6000 owl pairs in the Northwest. Yet, by late 1990, there had been no decrease in the rate of logging to accommodate the owl (Abate 8). As early as 1971, biologists had warned the Forest Service and the timber industry that old growth logging could endanger the spotted owl, which is a slow breeder. Studies have shown that the spotted owl s major prey, the red tree vole and the Northern flying squirrel, thrive in the environment of the protective old growth forest and that when the forest that an owl lives in is logged, it will travel hundreds of miles to feed in distant ancient forests. • 48. Analysis Of The Duel In Founding Brothers Joseph J Ellis included The Duel in his book, Founding Brothers to show the extreme complexity behind the relationship between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. This duel is normally represented in a short few lines that includes the date, the location, the outcome, and little details about the fashion in which they dueled. Although these representations are short and concise, they do not give the duel the justice it deserves. Ellis model does so by adding a lot more detail to help the audience understand it was more than a short and random interaction. Ellis explains how in order to understand the duel, one must examine the many and intricate causes of it, rather than what actually happened in those few seconds on top of the cliff in Weehawken, New Jersey. Ellis record of the most famous duel in American History can be used as a historical reference for the songs Your Obedient Servant and The World Was Wide Enough that are a part of the Hamilton soundtrack. One thing that was made sure after reading this book and listening to this song is that Lin Manuel Miranda did his research and made the songs in his soundtrack as historically accurate as possible. Your Obedient Servant is the song in the musical that reference the letters Hamilton and Burr wrote back and forth leading up to the duel. These letters speaks about their many interactions in which one of them won over the other. Hamilton did many things in order to keep Burr away from gaining powerful positions ...
