This document analyzes citation characteristics of books in the Book Citation Index (BKCI) between 2005-2011. It examines how factors like edited vs non-edited books, inclusion in a series, and type of publisher influence citation patterns. The authors find engineering & technology and social science contain the most books and citations in the BKCI, which is biased towards English publications from UK/USA publishers like Springer, Palgrave, and Routledge. Edited books, books in series, and those from university presses are cited more than non-edited books, books not in series, and those from commercial publishers. The study aims to better understand citation patterns in books by analyzing a large dataset from the BKCI.
