Essay on American Education in the 1800 s
American Education in the 1800 s
In the early 1800 s education in America grew and developed rapidly, largely because of the works of
three very important men: Noah Webster, William McGuffey, and Horace Mann. These three men
were catalysts for the growth of education throughout the nineteenth century, and without them the
large strides America took during this time would not have occurred. These great men all shared one
goal: to educate the youth of America as well as possible. This was no small task, however, because
the educational system in place was disorganized and had several large problems that had to be
overcome.
The task of correcting the many problems that faced education in the early 1800 s required the genius
of many men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book was such a success that it was used in classrooms for almost one hundred years
(www.ctstateu.edu). Noah Webster s greatest accomplishment was writing the first truly American
dictionary. The book took more than 27 years to complete, and among the nearly 70,000 words
featured in it were truly American words, such as skunk and chowder (www.christianlaw.com). This
book was the work of a lifetime for Webster, and his name is now nearly synonymous with any
modern American dictionary.
Another great contributor to the spread of American educational tools was William McGuffey, author
of the widely spread series, Peerless Pioneer Readers. This series of writings was used in every state
of the Union and had a very obvious effect on students in American schools (lib.muohio.edu). Along
with creating such influential educational tools, McGuffey also taught at several prestigious
institutions of higher learning, such as Ohio University and Miami University (www.hfmgv.org). With
such a widespread influence caused by not only his educational series but his teaching across the
Midwest, it s no surprise that McGuffey is considered one of the instigators of the rapid improvement
of the educational system in America.
The man with the greatest effect on the government s relationship with schools is Horace Mann. Often
called the Father of American Education, Horace Mann wasn t

Open Campus Lunch Policy
Many state public high schools in Michigan are progressing towards possibly allowing an open
campus lunch policy for its students. The trend would allow students to depart from school to a
distinct location of considerable distance by the school. Recent studies have shown that providing high
school students the choice to a better quality of healthy food during lunch could lead to higher test
scores. (Michael, Justin, Elizabeth. How the quality of school lunch affects students academic
performance. www. brookings.edu). Changing school meals to accommodate healthier options is a
cost effective way to fix other issues like students who struggle with obesity. Revising eating habits
could help fight high health risks in students to improve

The Effect Of Stretching On Muscle Strength And Performance
Increased muscle strength and performance is sought after by athletes of almost every discipline, as
well as others simply looking to increases their health and fitness. Stretch and flexibility is another
area of fitness, one that is often neglected by most people. However, the effect of stretching on both
muscle strength and performance is disputed by the relatively few studies that have actually been done
on the topic. The results of the studies have ranged from concluding that stretching has a negative
effect on strength on performance to concluding that it has no effect to even concluding that it can
have a positive effect. Many factors play a role in muscle strength and performance so it is difficult to
conclusively determine what is due to stretching and what is due to one of the other variable that come
into play when exercising and training. Knowing the effect of stretching on muscle strength and
performance would allow athletes and their trainers to develop more efficient and productive training
plans to help the athletes achieve a higher level of performance.
Most people are under the impression that stretching lengthens muscles and that an increase in
flexibility is due to an increase in the length of the muscle itself. This is not accurate. Flexibility is not
achieved by having long muscles, but rather having to do with the length tension relationship of the
muscle (Magnusson 1998). There are several different theories for how stretching increases flexibility

Persuasive Essay On Charter Schools
President Trump s choice for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, was confirmed on February 7th,
2017, and her support for charter schools has become a priority in the administration. CNN reports
that DeVos has been a strong advocate in the past for school choice, lobbying for charter schools in
her home state of Michigan years prior to her confirmation. President Trump stated his education plan
would put forth billions of dollars into school choice programs across the United States. Charter
schools are publicly funded and independently run, in some cases operated by for profit and often do
not hire unionized teachers a distinction that has put them at odds with teacher unions (Grinberg
2017). DeVos labels charter schools as an extension of public education, while critics of school choice
point to both the unchecked power of charter school administrators, and the poor test scores of the
students in Michigan charter schools the schools DeVos lobbied for in the past. School choice
supporters anticipate the new administration to allocate both state and federal money for vouchers that
can be used for a variety of schools including completely private, religious, and home schooling.
However controversial, charter schools are experiencing a growth in popularity in locations such as
Washington D.C., Arizona, Colorado, and Florida. The shift from public schools to charter schools
could dramatically increase given the influx of potentially $20 billion into school choice

Ballet Research Paper
What would the world do without dancing? Many styles of this art form are spread from different
cultures around the world, and are performed all over. Cha Cha, samba, ballroom, swing, disco, and
break dance are all unique forms of dance that are performed, but the one with the most class and rich
history is ballet. The elements the combine to form a dance culture include the origin, the music
involved, and the classes of dancers. These dance styles contain different components, but ballet is an
older, more moving, art form that contains graceful dances set to classical music versus break dancing,
which is more modern with sharp movements set to hip hop. Ballet has many defining characteristics
which include the origin, dancer styles, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Breakdancing is a much newer style that has been around for less than a century. It originated in the
1970s in the Bronx, New York with the streets as a stage. Afrika Bambaataa was credited for forming
one of the earliest dance crews entitles the Zulu Kings (From Street to Dance). They earned a
reputation with their breakdancing circles, and then more people joined in, and from there, the style
started to evolve. More well known groups such as the Rock Steady Crew of New York City helped in
surging the popularity of breakdancing in low income communities and urban areas. In pop culture,
many interpretations such as youth alternative and violent gangs have evolved to merge into a R B
funk classification. It is less planned out, and more improvised based on the rhythm to where there is a
named style entitled freestyle (Art of Funk). Short, sharp motions make up the majority of the terms
derived from slang. Hip hop music is used, and unlike classical, it has lyrics that can be used to
convey a message. Living below the poverty line used to the main theme, but as it evolved, dances
became more about drugs, partying, how amazing the artist is. The original meaning was driven out by
pop culture and the desire for validation. Starting from the streets of the Bronx, breakdancing has
evolved to a less meaningful art form that has grown in widespread

Research Paper On Polar Bears
1 Do you believe that polar bears are endangered as a species now or in the future? why or why not?
Polar bear is not endangered not but will be endangered in the future. polar bear is now categorized as
a vulnerable species. A vulnerable species is categorized by the
International Union for Conservation of Nature as likely to become endangered unless the
circumstances that are threatening its survival and reproduction improve.Vulnerability is mainly
caused by habitat loss or destruction of the species home. As we can see polar bear is vulnerable. It is
vulnerable because of the habitat loss, and polar bear live on the ice at the north pole and the arctic
circle, because of the Global warming the ice is melting and the home of the polar bear is destroying.
their status will become endangered and maybe also extin since the only play they will likely to live is
the south pole and they can not get there by them self. the outside article i want to mention is Behind
the controversy, what s the real story about the future of polar bears? by Jane Palmer from BBC.
Human caused global warming is causing the Arctic sea, the bears habitat and hunting ground, to melt
and decline.
If the trend of sea ice decline continues as it has done, at the rate of about 13 per cent a decade, then
polar bears would suffer a loss of habitat, and consequently food in less than 100 years. when we talk
about polar bear, they are on the top of the food chain in the north pole. It

How Did Nicholas II Contribute To The Russian Revolution
Nicholas II was the last tsar of Russia under Romanov rule. Nicolas II was to inherit the throne after
his father died, but he was not prepared to. You will soon read that if he was properly prepared then he
would ve had a magic life. Tsar Nicholas II aroused the Russian Revolution.
Alexander III died at the age of 49 in 1894; Nicholas II did not feel he was up to take the throne.
Nicholas had to take the throne, get marry and have children to secure the future heir. He married
Princess Alix of Hesse Darmstadt. The coronation was hugely celebrated by Russia that thousands
were stampeded to death, but Nicholas II and his wife did not notice, nor did they care. His wife,

Safepac Case Study
Introduction
Ok so in this paper I will be looking at the Simply Green Product brand and seeing what can be done
with their company as far as their patenting and packaging of their product SafePac. So there is a lot
of information that will be covered here. Also we have to look at the time frame that SGB was using
the SafePac logo, on their equipment. The other thing is that we have to look at the trademark and the
other laws that incorporate trademarks and patents. So listed below is the topics that I would like to
discuss briefly.
1. Deciding if SGP can register their product name as a trademark.
2. Would the Trademark Dilution Revision Act be violated if the USTPO granted the trademark on
SafePac?
3. Tell whether or not the anticyber squatting consumer protection act would be violated by the use of

Because there is already a mark that is listed by the USPTO. This mark was first used in 2002 which is
6 years to the senior of SafePac, and SGP. Because of its seniority they have a claim to it and it would
add a little confusion if SGP would to market it. Because there would then be two products out there
with the same name, possibly cost some business for both companies. Here there would be a minor hit
on the Lanham act, which was put into place to protect legit business, so that they can keep using their
ideas, and investments. The reason why I say that is a minor hit is because even not knowing that this
was already in use they have a responsibility to the preexisting company and name of their product.
Even though there is no completion, and they are two separate spectrums of services. Still the idea was
first thought of by Safe Choice.

Comparing the Teotihucans and the Sumerians Essay
Comparing the Teotihucans and the Sumerians
Written language was an important milestone in human history. It enabled the recording of history,
dreams and tragedy. It allowed for commercial and historical record keeping. It allowed human beings
to imprint thoughts on paper, for sharing, later review or just for fun. What about societies that never
developed a written language? Could such a society rival one with that has? When advances of
Sumerian city states are compared to that of Teotihuacan there are a few instances where the
Mesoamerican city appears to be more advanced. However, if ranked these appearances do not place
Teotihuacan ahead of any one of Sumer s Mesopotamian city states.

Within these huge stepped cities within cities (49). an entire workforce was busy with the affairs of
civilization (49). Field workers would farm temple lands to provide for the massive amounts of food
that was distributed. In Lagash for example, food was prepared for 1200 people on a daily basis (49).
Though the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon in Teotihuacan were not as elaborate as Sumerian
Ziggurats, each civilization shared a Cosmo magical characteristic.
In Sumer, royal burial sites were so elaborate, that only specialized artisans could possibly have
constructed them. According to the text, arches, vaults and domes were new levels of architecture
found in burial tombs of the elite. In addition, elaborate funeral objects of gold and silver were also
found with the dead. Sumerian arts and inventions flourished. The wheel itself, which led to the
potters wheel and wagon wheels, were apparently invented in Sumer. (49). This lent sophistication to
pottery and increased efficiency to farming. The Bronze Age found its origins in Sumerian
civilization, which put metal tips on hoes, axes, arrowheads, daggers and many other tools. In
Teotihuacan however, the economy thrived on agriculture, craftwork, and trade in ceramics and
quarried obsidian. (98) There was no evidence in the text or lecture notes that they had achieved the
amenities of the Bronze age.
However,

Harappa And Mexican Civilization Essay
Last night I dreamed that I went back in time, as I walked around I saw people farming wheat and
barley as well as growing dates and melons. In the city there were artist making art using copper,
bronze, ivory and wood. I learned that they were the first to make cotton cloth. Traders were trading
goods with the traders from Egypt and Mesopotamia. I asked a woman in a red dress if she could tell
me a little about her land. She told me that this society was called the Harappa and Mohrenjo Daro
society. I asked how organized her government was. She said that the government was very strong and
organized. The cities were well planned right down to the water and sewer system. The people were an
educated and religious people. They had developed their own system of writing that was done on clay
tablets, statues and other remains. Her society worshipped a mother goddess. They were polytheists;
they believed the buffalo and bull was sacred. They treated their animals special. I saw some graves
that were filled with offerings like food and weapons. She told me that they thought the dead might
need these in an afterlife. I thanked her and she was on her way.

The Pros And Cons Of Kyoto Protocol
Global warming influences every country in the world adversely. In order to relieve this issue, in
1997, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) formulated and enacted
Kyoto Protocol in Japan. At the beginning, more than 150 countries joined the conference. After that,
other countries ratified Kyoto Protocol in succession. Until now, there are about 192 countries have
already ratified the protocol. The United States, however, chose to drop out in 2001 after becoming
one of the participants for four years. (Cable News Network Library, 2017) Drawbacks of Kyoto
Protocol and negative impacts on the economy are two main reasons why the United States dropped
out.
Kyoto Protocol is an agreement that forces all the signatory countries to make great efforts to relieve
global warming. It is widely accepted that greenhouse gases are able to heat earth since they can
prevent heat from escaping from the atmosphere, a reasonable amount of greenhouse gases is needed
to keep the earth warm at a constant and comfortable level, but the overabundance of those gases can
influence earth adversely and thus increase the temperature beyond desirable level. Kyoto Protocol is
aimed at solving this kind of problem. Therefore, we can say that Kyoto Protocol is an international
treaty among industrialized nations that sets mandatory limits on greenhouse gas emissions. (Rouse,
M., 2013) The countries who ratified the protocol will be a member of the United Nations Framework

Mosaicattenuation Patterns
3) Mosaicattenuation pattern Mosaic attenuation refers to inhomogeneous attenuation seen at
inspiratory CT. This pattern may represent patchy interstitial disease, small airways disease, or
vascular disease. In patients with sarcoidosis, mosaic attenuation most often results from small airways
involvement by granulomas or fibrosis, which may lead to obstruction .In pulmonary sarcoidosis,
nodular thickening along of the airway (or bronchovascular bundle) from the lobar to subsegmental
level is a common finding due to non caseating granulomas in bronchial mucosa. [21]To verify that
the CT finding is caused by air trapping, a finding of mosaic attenuation on inspiratory images must
be compared with the parenchymal appearance on expiratory images.[18]

Inner Evil in Lord of the Flies by William Golding Essay
Inner Evil Throughout the novel Lord Of The Flies, the boys on the island are continuously faced with
numerous fears. Subsequently there is nothing on the island which they fear more than the beast. The
beast is not a tangible object that can be killed or destroyed by conventional means, but an idea
symbolizing the primal savage instincts within all people. Its Golding s intention to illustrate the
innate evil inside man through his view of human nature, the actions of the Jack and his tribe, and the
relationship between the beast and the school boys. Golding wanted to reveal to the reader his point of
view and theory of human nature. He wanted to make it clear that each member of humankind has a

Their desire to please the beast leads them into golding s theory of inner evil, shown by the gruesome
slaughtering of the pigs and the Lord of the Flies itself, a gift to the supernatural creature. The Lord of
the Flies is a direct translation to Beelzebub, which is name given to the devil in the bible. From this
we can take Golding s perspective and motives not to express the relationship between the Pig s head
and the boys but human nature and evil. Soon the hunters lose sight of their school boy origins and
their compassion, seeking only to hunt pigs and increase the tribe members or kill anyone standing in
their way. This is a direct outcome from the beast who leads the boys into savagery and violence
further developing their own inner beast. The relationship between the beast and the school boys is
played out through the conversation between Simon and the Lord of the Flies. The Lord of the Flies or
pig head tries to intimidate and forewarn Simon calling him, just an ignorant, silly little boy (184) and
scoffs at Simon for thinking the beast is something you could hunt or kill! (184) Golding uses this
symbolic beast, the Lord of the Flies, to reveal the truth to Simon which is that they (184) the boys on
the island are the real beast. Before Simon faints the Lord of the Flies warms Simon that

Some immigrants have trouble adapting to a new lifestyle because of limited resources. Yet, other
immigrants who did not have much of a difficult time were able to integrate Spanish into a new
society. For instance, Areli Martinez, a Mexican immigrant studying Psychology at UCLA, moved to
the U.S. with her family in pursuit of better quality of life did not experience much difficulty in
adjusting. From an email interview (see email interview above), she mentions her experiences as a
Spanish speaker in California. Although it was not difficult for Martinez to adjust, her implications
included language barriers and weak cultural values (see email response below). Due to language
barriers and lack of cultural values, Martinez struggled with grammar and placing her thoughts on

The Catholic Church Of Gothic And Scholastic Ideals
As the rigidity of the Roman Catholic Church s power, influence, and corruption reached a climax
during the Romanesque period, humanity s desire for a more pleasurable life began to increase. The
Middle Ages brought about a transition that began to replace spiritual emphasis in life and highlighted
intellectualism and religious skepticism. Though the church s power was not necessarily undermined,
it was certainly revolutionized and dampened. Examples of this humanistic transformation were
represented through the union of Gothic and Scholastic ideals. Rather than simply scare the population
into being religious and pious, the Gothic era welcomed the population beginning with France,
followed by the rest of Europe through the airy, dream like, colorful, and uplifting beauty of the
Gothic Cathedrals. This radical change would not have come about were it not for Aristotle s
nominalist philosophy during Antiquity, which pioneered the future revival of this somewhat liberal
thinking. Aristotelian thought had been carried through the twelfth and fifteenth centuries and is
regarded as the most remarkable movements of European intellectual history (Craig 11). The great
originality and realism that Aristotle engineered provoked articulation and provided momentum for
expanded thought and thinkers alike. Aristotle created a highly adaptable and able lifestyle that
demanded more of humanity itself, [These] needs were not just religious but also medical, and,

The Texas Horned Lizard Essay
The Texas horned lizard, Phrynosoma cornutum, is a species in the lizard family, Phrynosomatidae,
which has ten genera and a diverse group of over 125 different species (Hammerson 2007; Cossel Jr.
1997). Lizards in this family can be found in Mexico, Panama, most areas of the United States and
parts of Canada (Heying 2003). Phrynosomatids range in a variety of forms, but are most commonly
distinguished by their small size (less than 10 cm long), rough and keeled scales, spikes on their
bodies, and the fusion of the sides of their teeth to the sides of their inner jawbones, known as
pleurodont teeth (Heying 2003). The thirteen species in the horned lizard genus, Phrynosoma, can be

It has developed highly efficient mechanisms for collecting water on the ground and moisture in the
air and transporting it across its skin to its mouth (Map 2010). The Texas horned lizard has hinged
scales, which are interconnected to a system of tubular canals located in the thin keratin layer of its
skin (Sherbrooke et al 2007). When water or moisture comes into contact with the its scales, capillary
forces pull water into the lizard s tubular canals, which is then transported to the mouth for
consumption (Sherbrooke et al 2007). The lizard s hinged scales have also adapted a greater efficiency
of absorbing water by increasing their surface area, which allows for more water to be absorbed and
transported at once (Sherbrooke et al 2007). Furthermore, the lizard has adapted a buccal pumping
mechanism in its mouth, which allows it to pump a constant flow of water into its mouth to drink
(Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). It has modified structures around its mouth that, combined with
certain tongue and jaw movements, allows it to lower the water pressure and pull a constant flow of
water through its tubular canals and directly into its mouth (Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). The
Texas horned lizard also exhibits behavioral adaptations that have increased its water absorbing
efficiency. To help increase the capture of water from its scales, the lizard lowers its head and body to
the ground and sticks out its legs to increase the surface area of its body in

Road to El Dorado Essay
Road to El Dorado
Explorers always wanted to find the Golden City. Of course, none of them did. In Candide, Voltaire
describes a city that is equivalent to any Golden City. This world is the ideal world that almost anyone
would like to live in. However, when Candide finds his Golden City, known as El Dorado, he leaves
it. One might wonder why Candide left El Dorado, but there were many well justified reasons for
Candide s departure from the perfect world he was searching for. Candide gives several arguments for
leaving El Dorado. Candide wants to find Cunegund, and he wants to be of higher status. In El
Dorado, everyone has wealth; but if Candide leaves with some pebbles from El Dorado he can richer

So, although life in El Dorado seems perfect, it would not be the ideal place for everyone. For
example, in a conversation with the king of El Dorado, Candide discusses ideals that exist in El
Dorado. In the conversation, Candide is very surprised about how harmonious El Dorado is. Candide
says, Have you no monks among you to dispute, to govern, to intrigue, and to burn people who are not
the same opinion with themselves (53). The king replies that everyone on El Dorado has the same
opinion. Yet, Candide is not a person who forms his own opinion. Pangloss taught his beliefs to
Candide. Candide is used to not having the same opinions as others because not many people agreed
with Pangloss s views. A world where everyone agrees with one another might seem a little mundane
to him. A mundane world would not be a perfect world for Candide. It seems Candide likes the
excitement and the drama that a less perfect world would bring him. In the last chapter, a wise Turk
told Candide, I have no more then twenty acres of ground, the whole of which I cultivate myself with
the help of my children; and our labor keeps off from us three great evils idleness, vice, and want (79).
These great evils all existed in some form in El Dorado. Want exists in El Dorado because Candide
wants the riches of the land. This is proven by the fact that Candide takes some of the

Examples Of Selfishness In All My Sons
People Are Selfish It is said that 70% of the American population is classified as being selfish. The
author of All My Sons, Arthur Miller, reveals that most people really do not care about others. In the
play All My Sons, there is much conflict centered around one family relating to the ideas of marriage,
death, and lying. The character, Joe Keller, represents an image of how most people do not care about
others because he is very selfish. Joe s selfishness are shown through how he blames others, and tries
to cover up his mistakes, rather than owning up to them. This interpretation is important because it
makes the reader think of how they act, and if they would be that 70% of the American population that
is considered selfish. First, I will explain how Joe acts selfish by blaming others. First, Miller shows
how Joe acts selfish through how he blames others. In the contents of the play, Joe tends to blame
Steve, his previous business partner, for the majority of his problems. Throughout the play Steve is in
jail because Joe blamed him for manufacturing, and distributing all of the defective plane parts that
eventually lead to the death of twenty one innocent pilots. Miller is insisting that, Joe was indeed

Electric Sheep Androids
First published in 1968, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, by Philip K. Dick, still manages to
find relevance in today s reality. Much of that is due to the fascination of androids in the modern
world s pop culture, and how the concept raises debate and speculation on what is considered human,
or equal to humans in consciousness. More recently, Dick s idea of humanity and what it means for
the androids, has had a resurgence in the popular television show Westworld , and shows no sign of
slowing down. The central debate for the question at hand seems to be: what makes something human
or not human? As much as Dick attempts to undo the barrier that separates android from proper human
by making the barrier unclear, there is still a definite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evidence for this starts to pop up all over the text. This juncture appears in a scene in which two
bounty hunters are looking at the painting entitled, The Scream , by Edvard Munch. Phil says I think
that this is how an andy must feel (Dick 121). This clearly resonates with Deckard as much as it does
with Phil, because the remainder of the novel we seem to feel his discomfort in retiring androids. He
asks seconds after killing Luba, Do you think androids have souls? (Dick 125).
With all of these blurred lines, one can assume that there s a shortcoming of some sort of spark in an
android that would make them equal to humans. Whether it s their lack of connection to animals, their
void of empathy towards living beings and even each other, or even Dick s paucity of explanation as
to why some of these lines are blurred, it widens the rift between human and android. If Philip
intended this vague differentiation of human and android, it works against him this case, and has
instead emphasized our differences in more

Franz Beckenbauer Essay
One of Germany s best football players during the 20th century was Franz Beckenbauer. Franz is in
the international football hall of fame, making 103 international caps along with 14 international goals
as a defender and a midfielder. He received the European Footballer of the year in 1972 and 1976,
which is a huge individual award to receive. The international team awards he accomplished include
winning the World Cup in 1974 and the European Championship in 1972. Franz was the captain of
West Germany when they won the World cup in 1974. He is not just remembered for all the trophies
he won, but also for the way he played the game. Every movement he made on the pitch bristled with
elegance. There was an arrogance in his play that suggested he was always in command (Litterer

Essay on Margaret Hilda Thatcher
Margaret Hilda Thatcher
Margaret Hilda Thatcher s overwhelming sense of self confidence and ambition ruled her life from the
time she was a small child in Grantham, though her Oxford years and during her early years in
politics. It led her to become the first female Prime Minister of Great Britain, and also helped through
her difficult political years as quot;Attila the Hun quot;.
Britain s first female Prime Minister was born on October 13, 1925 in a small room over a grocer s
shop in Grandham, England. Margaret Hilda was the second daughter of Alfred and Beatrice Roberts.
She often stated that she was brought up very strictly:

She enjoyed the tough verbal conflict of parliamentary debates. She had a quick mind and an even
quicker tongue, along with an enormous self confidence. She liked to fight and liked to win.
In 1975, the Conservatives were the first party in Britain to chose a woman as leader and potential
Prime Minister:
It was the backbenchers, not the Leader, or his Shadow Cabinet, who forced a ballot, and it was a
backbenchers candidate who emerged triumphant from it.
When the election was announced on January 23, and in the first ballot Margaret had the support of
only one member of a Shadow Cabinet of 23 she was regarded with suspicion by most of those
managing the party machine at Central Office, and opposed by many in the National Union. In short,
she was an anti establishment candidate. Her campaign manager was a backbencher, backbenchers of
varying shades of opinion made up her campaign committee who voted decisively for
change(Gardiner, 1975, p.204).
In May 1979, Thatcher became the first female Prime Minister of Great
Britain. Her party won again in 1983 and 1987. Thatcher resigned as Prime
Minister and leader of the Conservative Party in November 1990, after loosing the support of the
party. She remained in the House of Commons until 1992. In the same year, Thatcher was made a
Baroness by the queen and became a member of the House of Lords.

A very important piece of who we are as humans are genetics. Without genes, we wouldn t have the

At the beginning of every chapter, Brian McCall talked a little bit about how the new politicians took
over the position of Texas governor, which is a clever way of the transition. Although he spent 45% of
the time talking about the campaign, a fair number for me, sometimes he spent 60% of the time
explaining how some governors won the election, for example, John Connally, Dolph Briscoe, and
William Clements in his first term. It really helps me to get to know those governors better than just
reading their achievements, and I think that 60% is a large number for the campaign only. His idea of
using the campaign as the transition between two administrations is very smart. I like it and I think he
did really well on it, and I also think that he should shorten that part. The power of the Texas governor
revealed not only what the Texas governors did in their terms, but also their personalities, their views,
and their working styles. And because his purpose was to show their characteristics, he spent a lot of
time talking about their campaign and what they did to attract the support of people and the
legislators. The book gave me a flashback of Texas politics and fantastic development. Thanks to his
personal experience in politics, McCall walked readers through nine terms of Texas governors and
explained how the office of governor run within the broader

incandescent light bulbs and earn money from it ( Incandescent Light Bulb. ). During that time, the
incandescent light bulb was very expensive to buy since it was a very new invention and idea to many
people. But later on, they adjusted the prices so that people in the middle class could buy it as well.
This helped the economy since more work could be done because people who worked in factories
produced more goods, therefore, there was more to sell ( Lighting A Revolution: 19th Century
Consequences. ). As well as that, an electric industry was produced and more people were spending
money on electricity to power their homes. The electric light bulb also brought new ways of leisure
such as film projections. The incandescent light bulb also lead to other inventions such as the
microwave oven, televisions, microscopes and cameras and those are only a few of the inventions that
came out of the incandescent light bulb ( Light Bulb History Invention of the Light Bulb. ). In the end,
the incandescent light bulb caused a huge economical boom from when it was created since it was at a
high demand of electricity and required a lot of money, as well as that, it helped people to be able to
work for longer periods of time, therefore enabling them to produce more goods than usual

Los Vendidos Sparknotes
A Clash of Social Classes
Los Vendidos, is a one action play written by Luis Valdez. It compares the Hispanic population using
stereotypical characters who are currently on sale at a Used Mexican Lot. It takes place in California
in 1967 in a dense Mexican population. Politics and culture collide together. The Hispanic population
comes to the United States to increase their wealth. This play demonstrates how Mexican Americans
have struggled to find their identity and equality in the United States. (CLC) Stereotypes and Marxism
plays a role in the play.
Miss. Jimenez is the protagonist in the play. She is the secretary that works for Governor Reagan s
office. She oversees finding a Mexican American for the administration. The Mexican American is
needed to help promote business and votes from the Hispanic population. The secretary is Hispanic
herself, but tries to hide her identity. This is shown when the salesman, Honest Sancho, pronounces
her name the correct way and she has a quick response, Don t you speak English? What s wrong with
you? (Vendidos) She doesn t want her name associated with the Mexican culture. Stereotype is shown
when the secretary only wants the Mexican American. She has difficulty with social identity by
rejecting her own culture.
The secretary and the other Hispanic figures have the same culture. Since Miss. Jimenez is rejecting
her own culture and appearing as an American, there is difference between social classes. This falls

I will also assess whether they get quality medical services from the two facilities. Additionally, I will
find out if they had ever participated in health promotion and awareness programs organized by the

to the increase in overweight and obesity levels. I plan to assess the above issues by holding
community forums, interviews, surveys and focus groups with the people of Nueva Luna so that they
can get a chance to express their concerns about the named issues. This will involve the formulation of
questions, which will be used as data collection tools.

through research because this will help in understanding the attributing factors for each individual.
The information can be collected through focused discussions with the community members. I will

Female Characters, By John Wyndham
Female characters are influential in John Wyndham s The Chrysalids. In the novel, three women are of
paramount importance in comparison to all others in shaping David s views and opinions: Sophie, the
Sealand woman, and Aunt Harriet. In the society of Waknuk, individuals exhibit prejudice repeatedly
throughout the novel through their own blinkered treatment of deviations. David Strorm s, a twelve
year old boy whose parents brought him up in such lifestyle, interactions with those three women
throughout the novel sways him to have second thoughts about it. Their dealings with David each
have a particular impact on his life. Sophie allows for doubt to enter David s life for the first time; the
Sealand woman expands his views and prompts him to consider other beliefs different from those of
his society; and Aunt Harriet makes him more conscious of his society s despicable activities and
more attentive to it. In John Wyndham s The Chrysalids, Sophie, the Sealand woman, and Aunt
Harriet are instrumental in influencing David s outlook on society. Sophie allows for doubt to pierce
its way into David s life for the first time. At the start of the novel, when David first meets Sophie, he
gets an insight into a deviant s life. She has proven to be the first blow to efficiently impact David s
thoughts and make him question the authenticity of his society s belief system. It is hind sight that
enables me to fix that as the day when my first small doubts started to germinate.

Heroes In The Odyssey
What is a hero? We all know of the nearly three thousand people who died on September Eleventh,
2001 in New York. But what about the over four hundred firefighters, policemen and paramedics who
died that tragic morning? These men and women knew of the danger they were going into and yet,
they were brave enough to rush into the World Trade Center while most fled the site. These heroes
saved many people. But what of those who came out of the rubble? Most went on living the rest of
their lives before the collision, not asking for glory. Heroes do not want power and glory but instead
show bravery when others cower and are willing to sacrifice for what they believe in.

Many people who do this volunteer in the U.S. armed forces. While fighting for his country, he lost an
arm and was suddenly afraid (SB p 56). Many soldiers go into battle knowing what they are fighting

who die are unfortunate but still heroic. The ones who tell the story are still heroic in the sense that
they still sacrificed their time, efforts or even their body to the cause that they fight for. A specific
example of a soldier who sacrificed a lot is Pat Tillman. Tillman was offered a three year, $3.6 million
contract playing safety for the Arizona Cardinals. During his career, he said Passion is what makes life
interesting, what ignites our soul and pushes our limits. This said passion of his beloved country led
Tillman to join the U.S. army after the 9/11 attacks, giving up the joy of being a professional football
player and getting that $3.6 million. Tillman ended up giving his life in the field. Today, there is the
Pat Tillman Foundation which helps support veterans, doing what Pat would do.
In short, heroes are selfless men and women who don t cower in times of need and, if necessary,
sacrifice themselves. We need more heroes today. Like the firefighters on 9/11, we need to show our
bravery. We need fewer power hungry men who will stop at nothing to get their power and we need

Artillery conquers and infantry occupies. With the creation of the Canadian Counter Battery Office
(CCBO) this new technology was effectively employed for one of the first times at Vimy Ridge. As
part of a four phase plan, March 20th marked the commencing of the artillery strikes on German

During this phase, the gunners were highly successful knocking out many German batteries, many of

rebuilding defences or receiving supplies. The later two phases of the plan started on April 9th and
consisted of the creeping barrage to follow troops, as well as artillery support moving up at the pace of
the soldiers. This artillery doctrine developed by McNaughton was devastating to the Germans. It

Mcdonald s Liability
Essentially, Ritenbaugh expressed that God s word shows that He holds people accountable for
liability when people have careless disregard towards other people.
Conclusions
The case of Liebeck v. McDonald s clearly illustrates that companies must be mindful of not harming
consumers through defective provides, because consumers that are harmed by products, have the
ability to successfully win awards to be compensated for damages. With that in mind, it is
recommended that Divine Coffee Shops reduce coffee temperatures. According to the Burn
Foundation (2016), to eliminate the risk of burns, hot liquids should not be served beyond 160
degrees. The full article published by the Burn Foundation can be found here:

protected, we must implement a policy of checking the temperature of the coffee, before serving

In the 1980 s, game makers first created the reputed edutainment games which integrated video and

  • 2. Essay on American Education in the 1800 s American Education in the 1800 s In the early 1800 s education in America grew and developed rapidly, largely because of the works of three very important men: Noah Webster, William McGuffey, and Horace Mann. These three men were catalysts for the growth of education throughout the nineteenth century, and without them the large strides America took during this time would not have occurred. These great men all shared one goal: to educate the youth of America as well as possible. This was no small task, however, because the educational system in place was disorganized and had several large problems that had to be overcome. The task of correcting the many problems that faced education in the early 1800 s required the genius of many men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book was such a success that it was used in classrooms for almost one hundred years (www.ctstateu.edu). Noah Webster s greatest accomplishment was writing the first truly American dictionary. The book took more than 27 years to complete, and among the nearly 70,000 words featured in it were truly American words, such as skunk and chowder (www.christianlaw.com). This book was the work of a lifetime for Webster, and his name is now nearly synonymous with any modern American dictionary. Another great contributor to the spread of American educational tools was William McGuffey, author of the widely spread series, Peerless Pioneer Readers. This series of writings was used in every state of the Union and had a very obvious effect on students in American schools (lib.muohio.edu). Along with creating such influential educational tools, McGuffey also taught at several prestigious institutions of higher learning, such as Ohio University and Miami University (www.hfmgv.org). With such a widespread influence caused by not only his educational series but his teaching across the Midwest, it s no surprise that McGuffey is considered one of the instigators of the rapid improvement of the educational system in America. The man with the greatest effect on the government s relationship with schools is Horace Mann. Often called the Father of American Education, Horace Mann wasn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Open Campus Lunch Policy Many state public high schools in Michigan are progressing towards possibly allowing an open campus lunch policy for its students. The trend would allow students to depart from school to a distinct location of considerable distance by the school. Recent studies have shown that providing high school students the choice to a better quality of healthy food during lunch could lead to higher test scores. (Michael, Justin, Elizabeth. How the quality of school lunch affects students academic performance. www. brookings.edu). Changing school meals to accommodate healthier options is a cost effective way to fix other issues like students who struggle with obesity. • 4. The Effect Of Stretching On Muscle Strength And Performance Increased muscle strength and performance is sought after by athletes of almost every discipline, as well as others simply looking to increases their health and fitness. Stretch and flexibility is another area of fitness, one that is often neglected by most people. However, the effect of stretching on both muscle strength and performance is disputed by the relatively few studies that have actually been done on the topic. The results of the studies have ranged from concluding that stretching has a negative effect on strength on performance to concluding that it has no effect to even concluding that it can have a positive effect. Many factors play a role in muscle strength and performance so it is difficult to conclusively determine what is due to stretching and what is due to one of the other variable that come into play when exercising and training. Knowing the effect of stretching on muscle strength and performance would allow athletes and their trainers to develop more efficient and productive training plans to help the athletes achieve a higher level of performance. Most people are under the impression that stretching lengthens muscles and that an increase in flexibility is due to an increase in the length of the muscle itself. This is not accurate. Flexibility is not achieved by having long muscles, but rather having to do with the length tension relationship of the muscle (Magnusson 1998). There are several different theories for how stretching increases flexibility and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Charter Schools President Trump s choice for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, was confirmed on February 7th, 2017, and her support for charter schools has become a priority in the administration. CNN reports that DeVos has been a strong advocate in the past for school choice, lobbying for charter schools in her home state of Michigan years prior to her confirmation. President Trump stated his education plan would put forth billions of dollars into school choice programs across the United States. Charter schools are publicly funded and independently run, in some cases operated by for profit and often do not hire unionized teachers a distinction that has put them at odds with teacher unions (Grinberg 2017). DeVos labels charter schools as an extension of public education, while critics of school choice point to both the unchecked power of charter school administrators, and the poor test scores of the students in Michigan charter schools the schools DeVos lobbied for in the past. School choice supporters anticipate the new administration to allocate both state and federal money for vouchers that can be used for a variety of schools including completely private, religious, and home schooling. However controversial, charter schools are experiencing a growth in popularity in locations such as Washington D.C., Arizona, Colorado, and Florida. The shift from public schools to charter schools could dramatically increase given the influx of potentially $20 billion into school choice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Ballet Research Paper What would the world do without dancing? Many styles of this art form are spread from different cultures around the world, and are performed all over. Cha Cha, samba, ballroom, swing, disco, and break dance are all unique forms of dance that are performed, but the one with the most class and rich history is ballet. The elements the combine to form a dance culture include the origin, the music involved, and the classes of dancers. Breakdancing is a much newer style that has been around for less than a century. It originated in the 1970s in the Bronx, New York with the streets as a stage. Afrika Bambaataa was credited for forming one of the earliest dance crews entitles the Zulu Kings (From Street to Dance). They earned a reputation with their breakdancing circles, and then more people joined in, and from there, the style started to evolve. More well known groups such as the Rock Steady Crew of New York City helped in surging the popularity of breakdancing in low income communities and urban areas. In pop culture, many interpretations such as youth alternative and violent gangs have evolved to merge into a R B funk classification. It is less planned out, and more improvised based on the rhythm to where there is a named style entitled freestyle (Art of Funk). Short, sharp motions make up the majority of the terms derived from slang. Hip hop music is used, and unlike classical, it has lyrics that can be used to convey a message. Living below the poverty line used to the main theme, but as it evolved, dances became more about drugs, partying, how amazing the artist is. The original meaning was driven out by pop culture and the desire for validation. So there is a lot of information that will be covered here. Also we have to look at the time frame that SGB was using the SafePac logo, on their equipment. The other thing is that we have to look at the trademark and the other laws that incorporate trademarks and patents. So listed below is the topics that I would like to discuss briefly. 1. Deciding if SGP can register their product name as a trademark. 2. Would the Trademark Dilution Revision Act be violated if the USTPO granted the trademark on SafePac? 3. In order to relieve this issue, in 1997, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) formulated and enacted Kyoto Protocol in Japan. At the beginning, more than 150 countries joined the conference. After that, other countries ratified Kyoto Protocol in succession. Until now, there are about 192 countries have already ratified the protocol. The United States, however, chose to drop out in 2001 after becoming one of the participants for four years. (Cable News Network Library, 2017) Drawbacks of Kyoto Protocol and negative impacts on the economy are two main reasons why the United States dropped out. Kyoto Protocol is an agreement that forces all the signatory countries to make great efforts to relieve global warming. It is widely accepted that greenhouse gases are able to heat earth since they can prevent heat from escaping from the atmosphere, a reasonable amount of greenhouse gases is needed to keep the earth warm at a constant and comfortable level, but the overabundance of those gases can influence earth adversely and thus increase the temperature beyond desirable level. Kyoto Protocol is aimed at solving this kind of problem. The Lord of the Flies is a direct translation to Beelzebub, which is name given to the devil in the bible. From this we can take Golding s perspective and motives not to express the relationship between the Pig s head and the boys but human nature and evil. Soon the hunters lose sight of their school boy origins and their compassion, seeking only to hunt pigs and increase the tribe members or kill anyone standing in their way. This is a direct outcome from the beast who leads the boys into savagery and violence further developing their own inner beast. • 18. The Catholic Church Of Gothic And Scholastic Ideals As the rigidity of the Roman Catholic Church s power, influence, and corruption reached a climax during the Romanesque period, humanity s desire for a more pleasurable life began to increase. The Middle Ages brought about a transition that began to replace spiritual emphasis in life and highlighted intellectualism and religious skepticism. Though the church s power was not necessarily undermined, it was certainly revolutionized and dampened. Examples of this humanistic transformation were represented through the union of Gothic and Scholastic ideals. Rather than simply scare the population into being religious and pious, the Gothic era welcomed the population beginning with France, followed by the rest of Europe through the airy, dream like, colorful, and uplifting beauty of the Gothic Cathedrals. This radical change would not have come about were it not for Aristotle s nominalist philosophy during Antiquity, which pioneered the future revival of this somewhat liberal thinking. Aristotelian thought had been carried through the twelfth and fifteenth centuries and is regarded as the most remarkable movements of European intellectual history (Craig 11). Lizards in this family can be found in Mexico, Panama, most areas of the United States and parts of Canada (Heying 2003). Phrynosomatids range in a variety of forms, but are most commonly distinguished by their small size (less than 10 cm long), rough and keeled scales, spikes on their bodies, and the fusion of the sides of their teeth to the sides of their inner jawbones, known as pleurodont teeth (Heying 2003). It has developed highly efficient mechanisms for collecting water on the ground and moisture in the air and transporting it across its skin to its mouth (Map 2010). The Texas horned lizard has hinged scales, which are interconnected to a system of tubular canals located in the thin keratin layer of its skin (Sherbrooke et al 2007). When water or moisture comes into contact with the its scales, capillary forces pull water into the lizard s tubular canals, which is then transported to the mouth for consumption (Sherbrooke et al 2007). The lizard s hinged scales have also adapted a greater efficiency of absorbing water by increasing their surface area, which allows for more water to be absorbed and transported at once (Sherbrooke et al 2007). Furthermore, the lizard has adapted a buccal pumping mechanism in its mouth, which allows it to pump a constant flow of water into its mouth to drink (Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). It has modified structures around its mouth that, combined with certain tongue and jaw movements, allows it to lower the water pressure and pull a constant flow of water through its tubular canals and directly into its mouth (Map 2010; Sherbrooke et al 2007). The Texas horned lizard also exhibits behavioral adaptations that have increased its water absorbing efficiency. Candide says, Have you no monks among you to dispute, to govern, to intrigue, and to burn people who are not the same opinion with themselves (53). The king replies that everyone on El Dorado has the same opinion. Yet, Candide is not a person who forms his own opinion. Pangloss taught his beliefs to Candide. Candide is used to not having the same opinions as others because not many people agreed with Pangloss s views. A world where everyone agrees with one another might seem a little mundane to him. A mundane world would not be a perfect world for Candide. It seems Candide likes the excitement and the drama that a less perfect world would bring him. • 32. Heroes In The Odyssey What is a hero? We all know of the nearly three thousand people who died on September Eleventh, 2001 in New York. But what about the over four hundred firefighters, policemen and paramedics who died that tragic morning? These men and women knew of the danger they were going into and yet, they were brave enough to rush into the World Trade Center while most fled the site. These heroes saved many people. But what of those who came out of the rubble? Most went on living the rest of their lives before the collision, not asking for glory. But the heroes, are the ones who don t shy away from danger of death or loss of limbs. The ones who die are unfortunate but still heroic. The ones who tell the story are still heroic in the sense that they still sacrificed their time, efforts or even their body to the cause that they fight for. A specific example of a soldier who sacrificed a lot is Pat Tillman. Tillman was offered a three year, $3.6 million contract playing safety for the Arizona Cardinals. During his career, he said Passion is what makes life interesting, what ignites our soul and pushes our limits. This said passion of his beloved country led Tillman to join the U.S. army after the 9/11 attacks, giving up the joy of being a professional football player and getting that $3.6 million. Tillman ended up giving his life in the field. Today, there is the Pat Tillman Foundation which helps support veterans, doing what Pat would do. In short, heroes are selfless men and women who don t cower in times of need and, if necessary, sacrifice themselves. We need more heroes today. Like the firefighters on 9/11, we need to show our bravery. We need fewer power hungry men who will stop at nothing to get their power and we need more selfless leaders who are ... The main targets of artillery strikes were rarely infantry themselves, rather machine guns, German trenches and German fortifications. A common perception among French generals was Artillery conquers and infantry occupies. With the creation of the Canadian Counter Battery Office (CCBO) this new technology was effectively employed for one of the first times at Vimy Ridge. As part of a four phase plan, March 20th marked the commencing of the artillery strikes on German trenches with twenty four artillery brigades consisting of 480 eighteen pounders, 138 4.5inch howitzers, ninety six two inch trench mortars, and twenty four massive 9.45 inch trench mortars. During this phase, the gunners were highly successful knocking out many German batteries, many of which identified by aerial photography. Phase two began on April 2nd, with the intensity of the attacks increasing; they tried to maintain constant bombardment of the Germans to prevent them from rebuilding defences or receiving supplies. The later two phases of the plan started on April 9th and consisted of the creeping barrage to follow troops, as well as artillery support moving up at the pace of the soldiers. This artillery doctrine developed by McNaughton was devastating to the Germans. It combined reconnaissance and precision strikes to weaken defences and sever supply lines, while attacking enemy battery positions with tactical timing based on the stage of the ...
