Voting Behavior Analysis
They found that as a precinct has more renters or more non white voters, the turnout under VBM
elections decreases, although at different rates for different election types. Having higher rates of
college graduates in a precinct is correlated to higher turnout rates under VBM. This study was one of
the first to consider who VBM might benefit, as opposed to the less complex question of increasing
general turnout. While this research is indicative of who VBM might benefit, it relies on precinct level
data, and cannot effectively determine if individuals voting behavior changed under VBM. Berinsky,
Burns, and Traugott (2001) extended this line of research on demographic effects by looking to the
individual voting level to determine who VBM benefitted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps there is something intrinsic to the state that causes the effects we have seen, such as increased
turnout for special and local elections, or increased retention of high resource voters. To this end, the
work of Kousser and Mullin (2007) is beneficial. In California, every precinct with under 250
registrants is designated a VBM precinct. This includes two full counties, and many other precincts
throughout the state. Thus, the authors used California as a natural experiment to investigate the
effects of VBM in the 2000 and 2002 presidential and gubernational elections. To alleviate concern
from lack of random assignment, they matched precincts as closely as possible by political context,
partisan composition, and racial composition. Consist with the findings of Gronke and Miller (2012),
the authors found no positive effect of VBM on turnout in these elections, and in fact found that VBM
decreased turnout. This effect was small, but statistically significant. However, the authors conducted
a separate experiment, matching several counties that used VBM or polling place elections to consider
the effect VBM might have on local special elections (those which fill a seat or consider a local
proposition). To this end, their results are consistent with the reviewed literature since Southwell and
Burchett (2000) to indicate an increased turnout in special elections. The authors postulate that getting
the ballot in the mail may increase the salience of a local or special election, essentially serving as a
reminder to vote when the election is not particularly salient. This serves as an excellent explanation
for the indications of all studies I have reviewed that investigated special or local elections and found
turnout increases under VBM. Perhaps it is not the convenience of a mail ballot, but in fact the
salience that tends to increase turnout. This also offers an

Chivalry in Arthurian Legend Essay
Chivalry in Arthurian Legend
Merriam Webster s on line dictionary defines chivalry as the system, spirit, or customs of medieval
knighthood. As Leon Gautier, author of Chivalry, defines this system and spirit of knighthood by
identifying rules of chivalry, two of which are well illustrated in Lanval, TheWife of Bath s Tale, and
The Wedding of Sir Gawain and Dame Ragnel: Thou shalt never lie, and shall remain faithful to thy
pledged word, and Thou shalt be generous, and give largess to everyone (qtd. in Chivalry). All three
stories seem to suggest the predominant theme of a knight living up to his word. This is shown by the
fact that, in each story, the knight s oath is taken very seriously, is treated as a contract, and is ... Show

It is interesting to note that King Arthur s life depends on two things: his remaining faithful to his
word, and Sir Gromer, also a knight bound by the code of chivalry, remaining true to his word. If
Arthur does not trust that Sir Gromer will honor the code and spare his life, it would seem
unreasonable for him to agree to such a deal. In the end, we find that both men remain honorable, thus
upholding this aspect of the code of knighthood.
Similarly, the knight, in the story told by the Wife of Bath, is faced with the punishment of death for
the crime of rape. To save his life, he swears to the queen that he shall return within a year and a day
with the correct answer to her question: What thing [is it] that women most desiren (911). Again, it is
difficult to believe that the queen would have allowed this knight to run off, unpunished for his crime,
unless she believed he would remain true to his word. It seems that it would have been very easy for
this knight to save his life simply by disappearing. Yet he lived up to his oath.
In Lanval, the knight is asked to make a promise to his ami not to let anyone know of their affair.
Although Lanval does not remain true to his word, the importance of the oath is made clear in the
simple fact that his love trusts his word implicitly. It is important to note that, were it not for the
implied oath of a knight to remain loyal at all costs to his king, Lanval would have kept his promise

1. Effective Interest Rate on the new 10% debentures = 14.318%
For the 10% debentures, the market value of 1 share is $19.5 (given)
The equivalent of this is a cash offer of $3/share and a 10% subordinated debenture of face value of
$23.
So the PV (10% subordinated debentures with FV $23) = $19.5 $3 = $16.5
The effective interest rate (yield) on the above is that interest rate r that gives the following
PV (Per period payment of ($23*5% i.e. $1.15) over 40 periods @ r)
+ PV ($23 paid 40 periods hence with a return of r)
$16.5
1.15*(1 (1/(1+r)^40))/r + 23/(1+r)^40 = 16.5
Solving for r in the above equation we get 14.318% as the effective interest rate.
Similarly, Effective Interest Rate on the old 5% ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pre Tax earnings in question 3 = $551,869
One time gain = 13,348,000
Additional interest expense for 2 periods = 855.7 +857.3 = $1,713,000
Reduced interest expense for 5% bonds = 863.4 + 870.4 = $1,733,800
New Pre tax Net Income = 551,869 +13,348,000 1,713,000 + $1,733,800 = 13,920,669
After tax Net income = 13,920,669 *(1 0.48) = $7,238,748

Healthcare Industry And The Health Care Industry Essay
Heath care is the most inevitable domain in human life and is always a major dependency for
everyone across the globe. Health care contributes to a significant part of any country s economy. As
per Wikipedia, In 2011, the health care industry consumed an average of 9.3 percent of the GDP or
US$ 3,322 per capita across the 34 members of OECD countries. Many life threatening diseases
which was a major risk for the human community a decade ago, are preventable or curable in present
day. For example, small pox which was a huge danger few decades ago was completely eradicated
worldwide in 1980s due to the health care industry advancement and intervention. The cost of medical
equipment, treatment, professionals was sky scraping earlier and was affordable only to the elite sector
of the society. Nowadays, medical devices are made very simple and cost effective which has made it
more accessible for common people around the globe. Medical professionals and technicians are also
growing to meet the needs of the health care industry. In recent days the health care industry
stakeholder list has expanded from only medical professionals, hospitals, technicians to
manufacturers, policy makers, insurance companies, social networks, analysts and administrators. Lot
of research and technological advancements are happening in the medical industry trying to make
humans almost immortal. Smartphones and personal devices The latest smartphones and wearables

Women s Subjectivity in Arabian Nights by Judith Grossman...
Women s Subjectivity in Arabian Nights by Judith Grossman
Judith Grossman wrote an article concerning women s subjectivity in Arabian Nights. The article
brought out many points to which I had never given thought. As I read the novel, I saw that women
were considered evil and bad, but I didn t think much more of it. After reading Grossman s article I
must say I agree with many of the thoughts expressed. She focuses on the fact that women are
considered to be evil, but it is just because their true self has never had a chance to be free. Women are
locked into this reciprocal cycle of deceit and unfaithfulness, only after being oppressed by their
husbands or keepers, as in the case of the Jinnee and the maiden. Grossman s article ... Show more

The maiden says, But I have lain under as many men as I ve desired, and this wretched jinnee doesn t
realize that destiny cannot be averted or hindered by anything and that whatever a woman wants, she
will get, no matter how much a man might try to prevent it.(11) It is easy to see that she is rebelling in
her own way against the rules set forth by the jinnee and all of mankind. She has a deep hatred
towards men, and she makes herself feel better by dominating strange men and threatening them with
the loss of their lives. Although she cannot actually kill them her captor the jinnee, will without a
second thought. Though she is dominated by the jinnee, she has a power over the men she finds. This
evens out the balance of power a little between the jinnee and the maiden. Women are made out to be
awful, horrible creatures from which men should take cover. In Arabian Nights there are many
passages in which women are negatively portrayed. For example, This only proves that all women will
make cuckolds out of their husbands when given the chance...No man in this world is safe from the
malice of women! (6) This is only one of many blatant sexist remarks in this text. Grossman takes the
stance in her article, ...but my focus is not on the solipsistic narrator it is on narration as a social act
undertaken in a specified context of events.(113) To me this means that she is focusing on what
character is doing the narration in the context

What Does Something Mean To You Essay
In society, we tend to anticipate one s possibilities to the greatest extent. As Henry David Thoreau
stated, One is not born into the world to do everything, but to do something. I believe my something is
to impact my community by helping those who are either in need of help, or who are in quest for
clarification.
This journey will not be a easy task, but I am determined with ambition and dedication to helping
those who seek guidance. The smallest gestures can have the most significant influence on someone s
life whether it means helping a student with their homework, or gathering ideas for a group project.
The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don t wait for good things to happen
to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will
fill yourself with hope, as stated by our President. Acknowledging the difference in one s behavior

Country Music Analysis
Music will never stop evolving into various styles and sub genres, but over the last 30 years country
music has taken snowballed into a clash of old school country and pop styles. After the third
generation of country music grew past the honky tonk, consisting of a very basic ensemble of guitar,
bass, and vocals, a change was needed to revive the country music industry. Artists had to create new
styles of country, such as Countrypolitan, which aimed towards the mainstream pop markets. Despite
changes in time differences, style, and technological advances, there are parallels between the songs at

song. Not only did this song top the US Billboard Country songs, but made appearances in movie You

president Reagan in audience. The song reappeared twice after the attacks on 9/11, re releasing as a
single to boost the much needed morale, and after Osama bin Laden was killed. The spark of
nationalism was noticed by R B pop star Beyonce, who released a single cover of the song after the
bin Laden takedown. Waylon Jennings did not receive nearly as much publicity after the release of his
single The Eagle, however it did make an appearance as 9th on US Billboard Top Country Albums.

conditions, assistance received or needed, advance directives, willing to receive blood products,
belongings at the bedside, and cultural beliefs. We ask all our patients if they have any special diet
restrictions, whether personal or medical choices. We also ask the patient if there are any cultural or

our patients establishes a supportive environment. The success of the care plan depends on the
attention paid in the service setting to patient culture, skills, convenience, information, costs, and
implementation of the care decision (Paget et al., 2012, p.3). I believe we do a good job of establishing
the supportive environment and incorporating our patient s cultural beliefs during their admission, and

Jeeps And Mustangs Comparison
What purpose and capabilities should a vehicle you own have? It may depend on where you live or
how far you need to commute for work. It may even depend on how you want people to perceive you.
Some capabilities may include needing to drive through deep snow, or just needing to get somewhere
quickly. A few vehicles I would like to purchase in the future are a Ford Mustang and a Jeep Wrangler.
Depending on where you live either one of these would be a good source of transportation. Most
notably, Jeeps and Mustangs differ in their appearance, driving capabilities, and handling precision,

there. They are often used as camping and hunting vehicles because of their amazing ability to not get

What key factors determine the strategic plan for the legal organization of the business?
The proprietorship is the simplest legal form of organization LFO one that has no separate legal

Gender Socialization Is The Process Of Learning Gender...
Why is it that despite making up 55.5 % of the United States population women hold only 19.6 % of
seats on the U.S Congress, 4.6% of CEO positions (S P 500 companies), and 13.2% of school
superintendent positions? Many people believe that women are intellectually inferior, and/or lack the
desire to reach the top. However, these individuals are misguided in their belief about the professional
and interpersonal strengths that most women possess. The disproportionate number of women in
prominent positions is a result of a historical tradition of gender socialization that facilitates
prejudicial practices within the work environment. Gender socialization is the process of learning
gender roles and expectations. It is what determines which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As a result, women speak more tentatively, apologize more, and interrupt less than men. Ultimately,
this leaves the impression that men are more confident and capable, and therefore, better leaders
(Lakoff, 1975). This impression, coupled with the perception of aggression as a predominantly
masculine trait, can lead to unwelcoming work environments in which women may experience double
standards, bias in assessments, as well as harassment. For instance, many women experience co
workers telling inappropriate jokes and making sexually oriented remarks toward them. One woman
recounts, it happened so often that I stopped telling [my boss] about it (Angyal, 2015). In this way
gender socialization may prevent women from obtaining high level positions or cause them to miss
out on opportunities to advance in their careers.
Women have to maneuver through many obstacles some more apparent than others in order to climb
up the corporate ladder. Every day women fall prey to vertical segregation (also known as the glass
ceiling ), which refers to a barrier that keeps women from rising to the upper rungs of the corporate
ladder. Eventually, these obstacles create a reality in which it is rare to see a woman ascend to upper
level positions. For example, women become teachers and principles, while men are superintendents.

What Is Demand Model Of Supply And Demand
Supply and demand is a model for understanding the determination of the price of quantity of a good
sold on the market. The explanation works by looking at two different groups buyers and sellers and
asking how they interrelate. The supply and demand model relies on a high level of competition,
meaning that bidding can only take place if there is a high amount of buyers and sellers in the market.
Buyers bid against each other and thus raise the price, while sellers bid against each other and thus
lower the price. The equilibrium is a point at which all the bidding has been done; nobody has a
reason to offer higher prices or accept lower prices. In this essay I will be critically analysing the
supply/demand model in understanding actual world supply, demand and market behaviour. I will
highlight this through the aid of diagrams and examples. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This model will work most accurately when there is perfect competition. Perfect competition arises
when consumers and producers of a product are price takers. This means they have no power to
influence the market price. However, this is not a realistic proposal because no market is going to be
perfectly competitive. Although the supply demand framework still gives a good estimate for what is
happening in the market most of the time.
To an economists demand refers to both the willingness and ability to pay for a good. When the price
of a good falls, the quantity demanded will fall. This applies to both individuals and whole market
demand. This is known as the law of demand. The relationship between Quantity Demanded (Qd) and
price can be shown in a table (curve). Price is located on the vertical axis and demand is located on the
horizontal. The demand curve will have a negative

Similarities Between Troy Maxon And Fences
There are always three main roles that a person can have in life. You can either be the hero of your
own story, you can be the villain of your own story or the tragic hero/figure of your story. A hero is a
person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. A villain
is the person or thing responsible for specified trouble, harm, or damage. he person or thing
responsible for specified trouble, harm, or damage. One person can be seen as both the tragic hero and
villain of the story is Troy Maxson.
In the play and movie Fences, by August Wilson, we go see the life of the Maxson family in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the year 1957. Troy Maxson is the man of the house, being a husband,
father, brother, and a best friend. Throughout the play we see many aspects of Troy, but mainly the
aspects that make him a tragic hero. Troy does not like to accept that times are changing. So it is not
much of a surprise when we see that Troy is not very accepting of Cory wanting to play football or
that Troy does not believe negro baseball players are getting a chance in the big leagues. In Act I,
Scene III, Troy will not admit that Hank Aaron is changing the game and that Roberto Clemente s
coaches give him plenty of chances to bat. Troy finds weakly argued excuses to deny that baseball is
treating black players fairly and changing for the better. He even denies Cory of playing football
because he would rather have Cory working then to play sports. Troy doesn t see the fact that his good
intentions aren t that good and that he can t accept other s choices in life when they differ from his
own philosophy about life. When life starts crashing down around Troy, he realizes that his actions
were wrong and that, as a result, he is losing what he cares for most in his life. That is how Troy is a
tragic hero/figure in the play Fences.
Apart from being a tragic hero/figure, Troy Maxson can also be seen as a villain. Although he may not
be the villain that purposefully tries to ruin everything, the actions he commits can still make him
seem like a villain. One action that can make Troy seem like a villain is not allowing Cory to go on a
play football for North Carolina. Troy

Poison Pill
POISON PILL STRATEGIES
Poison pill strategies are defensive tactics that allow companies to thwart hostile takeover bids from
other companies. Many companies may find themselves unprepared when facing such bids. By
adopting a poison pill strategy, a company can be somewhat reassured that acquiring companies will
approach its board of directors, not the shareholders. Poison pill strategies are also known as
shareholders protection rights plans.
HISTORY
During the late 1950s and early 1960s, several large corporations began acquiring other companies to
diversify their operations. Diversification allowed them to offset their losses in a failing industry with
profits from other unrelated, successful industries. Such phenomena caused ... Show more content on

PUT RIGHTS PLAN.
Under this plan, the target company issues rights to its stockholders in the form of a dividend. When
an acquirer purchases a specified percentage ownership in the target company, the target shareholders,
excluding the acquirer, are entitled to sell their common stock back to the company for a specified
sum of cash, debt securities, preferred stock, or some combination thereof. This form of poison pill
strategy is rarely used by the U.S. corporations.
VOTING POISON PILL PLAN.
This poison pill strategy is designed to dilute the controlling power of the acquirer. Under this plan,
the target company issues a dividend of securities, conferring special voting privileges to its
stockholders. For example, the target company might issue shares that do not have special voting
privileges at the outset. When a potential hostile bid occurs, the stockholders, other than the acquiring
party, receive super voting privileges. Alternately, the target company s stockholders might receive
securities with voting rights that increase in value over period.
EXAMPLES OF RIGHTS PLANS.
On 5 November 1998, Motorola, Inc. adopted a new rights plan to replace an existing plan. Under the
plan, one right attaches to each existing share of common

Essay On Clemson University Vs Furman University
Clemson University vs. Furman University 1. What I knew Being in the middle of high school, I am
thinking about my future more than ever now. I have made mostly A s and B s all of my life, so I will
probably have the chance to go to a good college if I choose to do so. This decision will be one of the
biggest decisions of my life, and I will need to put much thought and research into this decision. Early
in my life, I began going to Clemson University football, baseball, and soccer games. For this reason,
I am now a big Clemson fan, and I hope to go there for my college career. Another college I am

Monotheistic Religion Essay
Religion is something that basically everyone has in common. In all corners of the world and in all
eras of history, humans have wondered about the origins of the world, the purpose of life, what it
means to be human and live life, and what happens after death. What is a monotheistic religion? This
one word is defined as believing in the existence of one god or in the oneness of God. Monotheism
shows the traditions of Bábism, Cao Dai (Caodaism), Cheondoism (Cheondogyo), Christianity,
Deism, Islam, Judaism, all believing in just one God. In our society you can voice your concerns,
opinions and state your beliefs as to which religion you need to or want to serve. Religion is the
confidence in and love of a superhuman controlling power, considerably a personal God. Some may
consider it to be an arrangement of confidence and love. Religion adds the reason to the lives of many
supporters, allowing them an energy about the previous life, a comprehension of the present right then
and there, and seek after what s to come in the future. Religions have, images, and respected histories
that intend to clarify the importance of life, the beginning of life, or the inter world. Numerous
religions have sorted out practices, special holidays, sacred spots, and sacred texts. Any and all
religions incorporate ceremonies, sermons, celebrations, feasts, funerals, weddings, music,
craftsmanship, move, open administration, or different parts of human society. There are numerous

Policy Failures Essay
Policy failures Immediate reaction to the Great Recession could have assumed that it was an
intelligence failure perpetrated by the failure to understand and anticipate the risk in the economy. Or
perhaps there was too much noise to be able to pick out clear indicators of the pending economic
turmoil. However, to do so dismisses the culture of deregulation that existed throughout the 1990s and
early 2000s. It also dismisses the political nature of financial policy making. Thus, at its core, the
Great Recession occurred as a result domestic and foreign policy.
In the early 2000s, the Federal Reserve lowered interest rates to combat deflation following the burst
of the dot com bubble. By 2003, the Fed dropped the rate to 1%, traditionally ... Show more content

Some financial institutions got bailed out. Some merged with others. Others were nationalized by the
USG. But the USG chose not to bail out Lehman Brothers in September, instead allowing the bank to
fail. That would become perhaps the biggest failed decision of the entire crisis, because it injected a
lack of confidence into the markets. It caused a run on repos, similar to the bank runs traditionally
seen in prior financial crises (Gorton and Metrick 279). However, the bank run came in the form of
large banks concerned with the failure of other large banks, which had not traditionally occurred.
Accordingly, the stock market crashed as the last remaining shreds of confidence exited the markets
and a herd mentality ensued globally.
From foreign policy makers perspective, the most significant failure was to not understand the tight
coupling between the US and the rest of the developed world. Figure 4 demonstrates the prevalence of
financial crises across the world and the number of countries involved. A cursory glance demonstrates
the drastic increases following 1970. Evidence existed that coupling in global finance was increasing
systemic risk. However, policy makers globally failed to heed the evidence and make meaningful
action towards protecting against systemic risk. Thus, policy makers failed to make any meaningful
developments in increasing shock absorption capabilities.

Hip Hop And Its Impact On African American Culture
In the 70 s a new genre of music was created in South Bronx, New York. That genre is known as Hip
Hop. Over the years Hip Hop has gained popularity becoming arguably one of the most influential
forms of music to date. Hip Hop artist or Mc s used it to express their views on a multitude of topics to
their fans. These topics range wildly from the more serious subjects like the everyday life of people
living in the projects, personal obstacles they had to endure, and politics. As well as, more lighthearted
topics like enjoying your time in a night club or hanging out with friends. For those reasons, I believe
Hip Hop is representative of the African American community.
Even after 25 years hip hop has continued to reflect issues that are going on in black communities. I
think that hip hop has transformed from just a genre of music to more along the line of being a culture.

Advantages And Disadvantages In Relational Database...
Relational Database Management System
This type of database management system that stores the data in the form of related tables. It is a
social database administrator which deals with some typical kind of queries and uses SQL for the
development of the database. This type of database is a very powerful database as it deals with the
relations which makes the data manipulations easier other than any other database. It has the features
of data entry, data deletion, and creating of new entry and records etc. the database provides the ease
of accessing and maintaining data easily.
Advantages of RDBMS:
1. Prevents Data redundancy:

The GUI is not implanted in the information:
With XML, the GUI is separated. Along these lines, changes to show don t require futzing with the
information. Rather, a different template will indicate a table show or a rundown show.
2. Easier to use:
The language used for creating the database can create its own tags so it is easier to use
Disadvantages of XML:
XML is a very complex language therefore it creates some complex databases. The biggest drawback
of XML is that for one, XML requires a processing application. That is, the nice thing about HTML
was that you knew that if you wrote an HTML document, anyone, anywhere in the world, could read
your document using Netscape but XML is not like this.
Comparative analysis
The ORDBMS has the relational model in it because the data is stored in the form of tables having
rows and columns and SQL is used as the query language and the result of a query is also table or
tuples (rows). But the relational model has to be drastically modified in order to support the classic
features of object oriented programming. Relational database management systems unlike other
management system stores the data in the tabular from making it easier to manage data in rows and
columns and therefore the data is more secure and is in the hands in DBMS s administrator but in
other databases the data security is not so

The denotation of this passage is the fact that the main character had come home drunk and literally
just used a knife to take one eyeball off the cat. In this passage, we see visual imagery because the
author describes in detail the state in which the author enters the house, the way he picks up the cat,
and the way he kills the cat, which makes the character seem even more insane. For the direct
characterization of the main character, we can see that he is a drunk and likes when people avoid him.
He also has a problem with his identity and states that he forgot his true self the moment before taking
the cat s eyeballs out. As for the indirect characterization, the main character becomes a very
aggressive person after alcohol consumption since he seizes the cat from the throat and tries to abuse
him. The main character can also be characterised as an insane person with weird and mad ways in
abusing a creature since he pops the cat s eyes out. The cat might also be characterised as a strong cat

Uncertainty is an amorphous concept. Basically, fluctuation in uncertainty tends to reflect all the
uncertainty in the minds of the consumers, managers as well as the policymakers about the possible

trend of economic uncertainties and uncertainty effects during recession periods. Nicholas associates
these changes in behaviors that uncertainty induces ponders in the appropriate design of a

During this period, the volatility of stock markets, exchange rates, GDP growth and bond markets rise
steeply. The main reason for those surge in the stock market is that volatility in the recession is due to
effect on leverage. Therefore, most firms in the period accumulate more debt which in turn causes
their stocks to be volatile. According to Schewert, he explores and calculates the leverage effect that
does occur and tries to explain the 10% rise in uncertainty during the recession period.
During micro uncertainty period, there is often a rise in the recession. This is due to the drop in
aggregation levels from looking at macro data to looking at microdata by individual firms and
industries. During both macro and micro uncertainties, there is usually a slow growth in the country
annual growth rates.
During the recession period, unemployment is usually on the rise. Therefore it translates to the
volatility of household incomes rising. Also, it is true that uncertainty is usually higher in the
developing countries. For instance countries such as South Africa tend to have a slower GDP growth

Analysis Of George Orwell s Everyday Life
From writing in our diaries to reporting on major political wars, we use words to express our ideas and
spread news. However, what if those very same words were the source of dishonesty and lies in the
world today? In his essay Politics and the English Language, George Orwell explains how language is
used to hide facts that may sound displeasing to the public, while in his text The Psychopathology of
Everyday Life (1901), Sigmund Freud proves how language is used to hide unacceptable thoughts
deep within our minds. Orwell and Freud hold different opinions on what language is used to hide due
to their differing historical contexts, but they both conclude that language, in its current state, cannot
be trusted.
Orwell offers several reasons as to why the English language is in decline, but his analysis of political
writings and misuse of phrases best concludes how and why the language cannot be trusted. As he
describes the writing, he emphasizes the euphemisms and bad habits that stem from it. He states,
When there is a gap between one s real and one s declared aims, one turns as it were instinctively to
long words and exhausted idioms, like a cuttlefish spurting out ink. Orwell explains how speakers tend
to lose the meaning of their own words when resorting to long words and exhausted idioms. Orwell
takes advantage of his position as the author and expresses his thoughts in a didactic manner. He uses
the third person point of view to point out a mistake that many

Peekay Character Analysis
Peekay s Trait Formation Life does not always take the easy path for all of us. Bryce Courtey writes
about Peekay, who is an English boy, that does not have the easiest life although it may seem like it.
Peekay goes through a lot of heartbreaks, in the form of death, but ends up coming out on top. With
Peekay traveling around and forming new relationships he grasps the traits everyone would love to
have. Peekays independence could not have come from nowhere, with him being alone most of his
life, or being with older people who already could take care of themselfs, he had to take care of
himself. Most of the time when Peekay got picked on he had to stand up for himself because no one
was there to help him out or no one care. I was a fairly quiet sort of a guy and had no trouble getting
on with things (333). In this he is saying how he always could fit in because he had to uses his
camoflage, just like in his prevouis boarding school. As he grows up Peekay learns to live life on his

talked, and had piano lessons, at eleven he would go to Miss Bornstein s house for a game of chess,
and he would spend the rest of his day with Mrs. Boxall or Grandpa (381 384). Peekay did not have
his mom to take him anywhere due to being poor so, instead he would walk everywhere on his own

Data Mining, Partition Based Clustering
Abstract Nowadays, Popularity of Internet and wide improvement in enterprise information is leading
to vast research in text and data mining, and information filtering. So, the cluster technology is
becoming the core of text mining. Clustering is an important form of data mining. Clustering is a
process of grouping similar sets of data into a group, called clusters. This paper comprises of text
clustering algorithms, also analysis and comparison of the algorithms are done with respect to the
applicable scope, the initial parameters , size of dataset, accuracy, dimensionality, cluster shape and
noise sensitivity. Algorithms are classified as partitioned based clustering, hierarchical clustering,
density based , self organizing maps and fuzzy clustering techniques. The brief idea of each clustering
technique is mentioned in this paper.
Keywords Clustering, Data mining, partition based clustering, hierarchical based clustering, density
based clustering.
I. INTRODUCTION
Wide range of data is collected in different databases because of advanced techniques of data
collection. The demand for grouping the valuable data and extracting only the useful information from
data is increased. Clustering is the distribution of data into groups of identical objects which has
similarity within the cluster and dissimilarity with the objects in the other groups [2]. Cluster analysis
is the arrangement of a set of data into clusters of similar patterns [5]. Data within the same cluster are

The Impact Of Saint Junipero Serra
Saint Junipero Serra was born on the Island of Majorca on the 24th of November, 1713.1 To many, he
is often regarded as the founder and spiritual guardian of old Alta California, as witnessed in his rather
common title, The Father of California. 2 In response to this, an intelligent student of history might
ask himself, What effect did the man really have, if any at all? To find the answer, one must delve
back into the history of old Spanish California, taking a good look at the padre s past. To that end, this
report aims to present the logical conclusion from the facts and the evidence. Saint Junipero s ultimate
impact will be discerned with the following, especially his helping to found modern California, his
teaching and helping of the Indians, and his helping to bring the Catholic Faith.
To actually discern whether or not Saint Junipero Serra had a great effect on modern California, one
must first analyze the effect he had on old Spanish California. With this thought in mind, the first
possible thing to look at is the missions. These crusty, old adobe buildings, or groups of buildings,

Criminal Profiling And The Criminal Justice System
Many Criminologist and Psychologists believe that there are specific psychological traits that can
disconnect a person from the rest of society. Criminal profiling is the approach that an individual who
commits a crime, may leave some sort of psychological evidence that can be crucial to an
investigation. This theory is a vital part of the criminal justice system today.
Criminology targets why individuals commit crimes and why they behave in certain situations. By
understanding why a person commits a crime, you can develop ways to control crime or change the
criminal to a certain extent. There are many theories in criminology. Some characterize crime to the
individual. They believe that an individual weighs the pros and cons and makes a choice whether or
not to act criminally. Others believe it is the community s responsibility to make sure that citizens do
not commit crime by offering them a safe place to live in, in society. Some argue that some individuals
have specific traits that will determine how they will react when put in certain negative conditions.
Overall, the determination of a criminal can be done through criminal profiling.
There are many different psychological disorders that can determine a person s actions or emotions.
Mental illnesses are medical conditions that disrupt a person s thinking, feeling, mood, ability to relate
to others and daily functioning. Just as heart disease is a disorder of the heart, mental illnesses are
medical conditions of the

Racism In The Lion King
The Lion King was one of my favorite childhood movies because I never got bored of seeing it
countless times and it always made me cry when Mufasa died. Yet it s a very good movie for children
to understand morals/values though they will later come to understand how racist the movie is. The
movie is set in Africa, where there is this kingdom made up of lions. The king s name is Mufasa; he
has a son name Simba who he is going to be king in the future, but Mufasa s brother, Scar (the
antagonist) found out and killed Mufasa, making Simba run away to the wild. After Mufasa s death,

represents the life of Simba the stages of the circle of life. Some people arrive in our lives only to
satisfy their own vested interests; they try to persuade us to walk in the paths of evil and petty

Genetically Modified Food And Its Effects On The Consumer
In the year 2050, nearly 10 billion people will call Earth home. Food producers must increase food
production by 70% in order to feed the increasing population (Rangel, 2015, para. 20). A solution to
increase the production from farms across the globe is to genetically modify food. Scientists can
manipulate the genes of different crops to increase the crops size, quantity, shelf life and even
resistance to pests. In recent years, genetically modified foods have begun to show up in grocery
stores across the globe. Some consumers do not object to eating genetically modified food, but others
have started to question how genetically modified food could affect the consumer. Rangel (2015)
wrote that genetically modified objects are not new to society and should be nothing to worry about.
He stated that humans have altered the genetics of organisms for over 30,000 years through the
process of selective breeding or artificial selection (para. 1). Selective breeding may not be conducted
in a lab like genetically modified objects (GMO) today, but it is comparable to GMOs because through
selective breeding, farmers choose the plants with the most desirable traits and plant the seeds from
those plants in order to have an enhanced crop the following year. Even though studies have found
pros and cons of genetically modified food, researchers still need to conduct additional studies in
order to better understand how genetically modified food could possibly affect the health of humans.

Vladimir Lenin And The Bolshevik Revolution
According to the History.com Staff, The October Revolution began on November 6 and 7, 1917 (or
October 24 and 25 on the Julian calendar). (Russian Revolution ). The October Revolution has also
been called the Bolshevik Revolution since the Bolshevik Party played a crucial role in the revolution.
The leader of the Bolshevik Party, Vladimir Lenin was a big supporter of Karl Marx. Another Marxist
who leads this revolution was Leon Trotsky. In an article by the History.com Staff, Lenin had created
an, almost, bloodless coup d état against the provisional government. ( Russian Revolution ). The
Bolshevik revolution started when, Alexander Kerensky, rather than follow an order. On October 24th,
Kerensky ordered troops that were loyal, to act against the Bolshevik. Encyclopædia Britannica tells
us that, Kerensky was a socialist revolutionary who served as head of the Russian Provisional
Government. ( Aleksandr Kerensky ).
According to History.com Staff, The provisional government had created a group of leaders from
Russia s bourgeois capitalist class. Lenin would alternatively call for a Soviet state that would be
controlled directly by councils of workers, peasants, and soldiers. ( Russian Revolution ). Both
decided that the Soviets was going to be a useful instrument in the next revolution. They didn t want
the Soviets to have all the power until they could control them. In the book, Rise and fall of
Communism 2009, Archie Brown shows us that, On 12 October, according to the old calendar,
Trotsky took command of the Military Revolutionary Committee of the Petrograd Soviet and on 25
October...the Bolsheviks seized power in Petrograd (Brown 51). Insurrection was to start, but there
were complications with the date set. In the book, The History of the Russian Revolution 1960, Leon
Trotsky says, At a session of the Petrograd Soviet on the 18th, Trotsky, in answer to a question raised
by the enemy, declared that the Soviet had not set a date for an insurrection, in the coming days, but
that if it became necessary to set one, the workers and soldiers would come out as one man (Trotsky

The Effect Of Gibberellic Acid On The Germination Of Seeds
The Effect of Gibberellic Acid on the Germination of Seeds Authors Bijin Johnson, Veronica Razon,
Harmony Juanta, Charlee Parr and Cathleen Castro. Introduction In this practical, six bags containing
twelve histrix cactus seeds each were taken and another six bags containing twelve rocket salad seeds
in each bag. Each bag was experimented with different concentrations of gibberellic acid to see how
fast each would grow. Gibberellic Acid is an organic molecule whose chemical formula is C₁₉H₂₂O₆.
This chemical was found as a by product of the fungus Gibberella fujikuroi (John M Riley, 1997).
This acid was developed later and now, synthetic versions of it are available commercially. This
Hormone is responsible for growth and development in the plant. Therefore, small concentrations of
this plant can help a plant grow faster but too large concentrations can have the opposite effect
(Triplantanol, 2011). This chemical comes in the form of a yellowish powder that is dissolved in water
and given to the plant (Wikipedia, 2015). Variables Independent Variable: The amount of Gibberellic
Acid in each bag. Dependent Variable: The number of seeds germinated each day. Variables Held
Constant: The length of time the bags were observed, number of trials done for each concentration and
temperature and the amount of heat and light the plants were exposed to. Hypothesis If the
concentration of Gibberellic Acid increase, the number of seeds germinated per day will increase.

The Creek Field Is An Old Accumulation And Is Reaching The...
The Darst Creek Field is an old accumulation and is reaching the end of its primary production phase.
It offers the unique operational constraints of its targets being primarily of carbonate lithology
(limestone s and chalks.) This structural composition offers potential to be enhanced via a chemical or
water flood due to its relatively high permeability and other reservoir characterization. Contained
within is the research and findings after building and executing a simulation of the potential for a
flood in this area.
1 Introduction
Water and polymer flooding have seen a surge in older fields as a method of extracting bypassed
hydrocarbons in the secondary production phase of the reservoir. Typically, the floods have seen the
largest increase of EUR in reservoirs that have highly mobile fluids and with a high permeability
formation. This allows the fluids to rapidly move through the formation and push the desired
hydrocarbons towards our production wells. These reservoirs are typically in the form of deeper
sandstone reservoirs, but studies are being conducted in an attempt to implement the floods in other
reservoir types. Through this paper we will evaluate the needs of an EOR process in carbonate
formations to evaluate their potential implementation in the Darst Creek Oil Field in Luling, Texas.
The evaluation will evaluate studies of flood effectiveness in other carbonate reservoirs to evaluate
both the operational and theoretical constraints of this specific

Introduction. The Case Study Renovating Home Depot Was
Introduction
The case study Renovating Home Depot was the case of a leader who joined a successful business
only to discover that the company was running out of growth opportunities and also did not have the
basic systems needed for increased growth in place. Robert Bob Nardelli was chosen as the CEO of
Home Depot based on his proven ability to reenergize slow growth businesses. He was a leader that
went all out to achieve his goals and was identified as someone who was comfortable in his own suit ,
and believes in being successful his own way. He made several innovations which were used in
General Electric (GE) where he recorded past successes. We see the success demonstrated in the
growth of revenue in Home Depot, as well as opening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nardelli was also quite weak in Human Resource (HR) and customer service which were the key
aspects of any retailing business that aspires to be successful. Looking at his personality, he was
someone that was full of pride, ego and always like to have his way. He failed to practice consultative
management and was driven by the fact that he wanted to prove Jack Welch (the then CEO, who did
not give him a shot at general management) wrong and he s ready to go to any length to achieve this.
According to one of the store managers that left, he said: after Nardelli arrived, things weren t
presented to you; they were told to you . Considering all of these, I would not hire Nardelli.
2) Describe Home Depot when Nardelli took over. What kind of place was it? Is Nardelli a tyrant or a
strong manager? Support your position.
A strong foundation for success and growth was already in place in Home Depot under Marcus
leadership. The company demonstrated a very strong culture, built on entrepreneurialism and customer
service. Abundant promotion opportunities were created due to rapid growth attracting carpenters,
plumbers and other building professionals as salespeople. Most of the non entry level jobs were filled
internally, and from the 400 department heads, just a dozen came from outside the company.
Additionally, employee stock

Famine Affluence And Morality Analysis
Peter Singer is an Australian moral philosopher most known for his book titled Famine, Affluence, and
Morality in which he talks about just that. One of his biggest and the first of his premises is our
obligation to assist if it is within our means to avoid something bad without giving up something of
moral consequence. This means that it is not morally permissible to rob a bank to assist those in need
just because you have the means to rob a bank. It simply means when thinking about purchasing
another item of clothing you should ask yourself if it is necessary. If the answer is no which it will
most likely be that money is to go towards someone who s life who depends on it. This, then, is within
your means without giving up something of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There s no way to know or change this without putting money in the pot in the first place. But why
would you do that? You could potentially waste a great deal of money. It might be better to wait and
save the money you would have donate. This is essentially the argument of something called Ever
Better Wine which says you should never open the wine because it will taste better tomorrow and will
only continue to increase in flavor with each day that passes. You could then call what s next Ever
Better Saving which is that you should wait and do more good tomorrow. The principle ultimately
states that you should wait forever to save people which doesn t help anyone at all. In terms of saving
the money, how are you to know for sure that it can save more people tomorrow than it will today?
This brings up the issue of whether the ever better wine reasoning is similar to what is going on in the
real world and our ability to help people in absolute poverty. Ever better wine is completely
theoretical. It s not fair to compare the taste of wine to the unfortunate lives of

  • 2. Voting Behavior Analysis They found that as a precinct has more renters or more non white voters, the turnout under VBM elections decreases, although at different rates for different election types. Having higher rates of college graduates in a precinct is correlated to higher turnout rates under VBM. This study was one of the first to consider who VBM might benefit, as opposed to the less complex question of increasing general turnout. While this research is indicative of who VBM might benefit, it relies on precinct level data, and cannot effectively determine if individuals voting behavior changed under VBM. Berinsky, Burns, and Traugott (2001) extended this line of research on demographic effects by looking to the individual voting level to determine who VBM benefitted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps there is something intrinsic to the state that causes the effects we have seen, such as increased turnout for special and local elections, or increased retention of high resource voters. To this end, the work of Kousser and Mullin (2007) is beneficial. In California, every precinct with under 250 registrants is designated a VBM precinct. This includes two full counties, and many other precincts throughout the state. Thus, the authors used California as a natural experiment to investigate the effects of VBM in the 2000 and 2002 presidential and gubernational elections. To alleviate concern from lack of random assignment, they matched precincts as closely as possible by political context, partisan composition, and racial composition. Consist with the findings of Gronke and Miller (2012), the authors found no positive effect of VBM on turnout in these elections, and in fact found that VBM decreased turnout. This effect was small, but statistically significant. However, the authors conducted a separate experiment, matching several counties that used VBM or polling place elections to consider the effect VBM might have on local special elections (those which fill a seat or consider a local proposition). To this end, their results are consistent with the reviewed literature since Southwell and Burchett (2000) to indicate an increased turnout in special elections. The authors postulate that getting the ballot in the mail may increase the salience of a local or special election, essentially serving as a reminder to vote when the election is not particularly salient. This serves as an excellent explanation for the indications of all studies I have reviewed that investigated special or local elections and found turnout increases under VBM. Perhaps it is not the convenience of a mail ballot, but in fact the salience that tends to increase turnout. This also offers an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Chivalry in Arthurian Legend Essay Chivalry in Arthurian Legend Merriam Webster s on line dictionary defines chivalry as the system, spirit, or customs of medieval knighthood. As Leon Gautier, author of Chivalry, defines this system and spirit of knighthood by identifying rules of chivalry, two of which are well illustrated in Lanval, TheWife of Bath s Tale, and The Wedding of Sir Gawain and Dame Ragnel: Thou shalt never lie, and shall remain faithful to thy pledged word, and Thou shalt be generous, and give largess to everyone (qtd. in Chivalry). All three stories seem to suggest the predominant theme of a knight living up to his word. This is shown by the fact that, in each story, the knight s oath is taken very seriously, is treated as a contract, and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is interesting to note that King Arthur s life depends on two things: his remaining faithful to his word, and Sir Gromer, also a knight bound by the code of chivalry, remaining true to his word. If Arthur does not trust that Sir Gromer will honor the code and spare his life, it would seem unreasonable for him to agree to such a deal. In the end, we find that both men remain honorable, thus upholding this aspect of the code of knighthood. Similarly, the knight, in the story told by the Wife of Bath, is faced with the punishment of death for the crime of rape. To save his life, he swears to the queen that he shall return within a year and a day with the correct answer to her question: What thing [is it] that women most desiren (911). Again, it is difficult to believe that the queen would have allowed this knight to run off, unpunished for his crime, unless she believed he would remain true to his word. It seems that it would have been very easy for this knight to save his life simply by disappearing. Yet he lived up to his oath. In Lanval, the knight is asked to make a promise to his ami not to let anyone know of their affair. Although Lanval does not remain true to his word, the importance of the oath is made clear in the simple fact that his love trusts his word implicitly. It is important to note that, were it not for the implied oath of a knight to remain loyal at all costs to his king, Lanval would have kept his promise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Women s Subjectivity in Arabian Nights by Judith Grossman... Women s Subjectivity in Arabian Nights by Judith Grossman Judith Grossman wrote an article concerning women s subjectivity in Arabian Nights. The article brought out many points to which I had never given thought. As I read the novel, I saw that women were considered evil and bad, but I didn t think much more of it. After reading Grossman s article I must say I agree with many of the thoughts expressed. She focuses on the fact that women are considered to be evil, but it is just because their true self has never had a chance to be free. Women are locked into this reciprocal cycle of deceit and unfaithfulness, only after being oppressed by their husbands or keepers, as in the case of the Jinnee and the maiden. Grossman s article ... The maiden says, But I have lain under as many men as I ve desired, and this wretched jinnee doesn t realize that destiny cannot be averted or hindered by anything and that whatever a woman wants, she will get, no matter how much a man might try to prevent it.(11) It is easy to see that she is rebelling in her own way against the rules set forth by the jinnee and all of mankind. She has a deep hatred towards men, and she makes herself feel better by dominating strange men and threatening them with the loss of their lives. Although she cannot actually kill them her captor the jinnee, will without a second thought. Though she is dominated by the jinnee, she has a power over the men she finds. This evens out the balance of power a little between the jinnee and the maiden. Women are made out to be awful, horrible creatures from which men should take cover. In Arabian Nights there are many passages in which women are negatively portrayed. For example, This only proves that all women will make cuckolds out of their husbands when given the chance...No man in this world is safe from the malice of women! (6) This is only one of many blatant sexist remarks in this text. Grossman takes the stance in her article, ...but my focus is not on the solipsistic narrator it is on narration as a social act undertaken in a specified context of events.(113) To me this means that she is focusing on what character is doing the narration in the context ... Many people believe that women are intellectually inferior, and/or lack the desire to reach the top. For instance, many women experience co workers telling inappropriate jokes and making sexually oriented remarks toward them. • 17. What Is Demand Model Of Supply And Demand Supply and demand is a model for understanding the determination of the price of quantity of a good sold on the market. The explanation works by looking at two different groups buyers and sellers and asking how they interrelate. The supply and demand model relies on a high level of competition, meaning that bidding can only take place if there is a high amount of buyers and sellers in the market. Buyers bid against each other and thus raise the price, while sellers bid against each other and thus lower the price. The equilibrium is a point at which all the bidding has been done; nobody has a reason to offer higher prices or accept lower prices. • 18. Similarities Between Troy Maxon And Fences There are always three main roles that a person can have in life. You can either be the hero of your own story, you can be the villain of your own story or the tragic hero/figure of your story. A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. A villain is the person or thing responsible for specified trouble, harm, or damage. he person or thing responsible for specified trouble, harm, or damage. One person can be seen as both the tragic hero and villain of the story is Troy Maxson. In the play and movie Fences, by August Wilson, we go see the life of the Maxson family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the year 1957. Troy Maxson is the man of the house, being a husband, father, brother, and a best friend. Throughout the play we see many aspects of Troy, but mainly the aspects that make him a tragic hero. Troy does not like to accept that times are changing. So it is not much of a surprise when we see that Troy is not very accepting of Cory wanting to play football or that Troy does not believe negro baseball players are getting a chance in the big leagues. In Act I, Scene III, Troy will not admit that Hank Aaron is changing the game and that Roberto Clemente s coaches give him plenty of chances to bat. Troy finds weakly argued excuses to deny that baseball is treating black players fairly and changing for the better. He even denies Cory of playing football because he would rather have Cory working then to play sports. Troy doesn t see the fact that his good intentions aren t that good and that he can t accept other s choices in life when they differ from his own philosophy about life. When life starts crashing down around Troy, he realizes that his actions were wrong and that, as a result, he is losing what he cares for most in his life. That is how Troy is a tragic hero/figure in the play Fences. Apart from being a tragic hero/figure, Troy Maxson can also be seen as a villain. Although he may not be the villain that purposefully tries to ruin everything, the actions he commits can still make him seem like a villain. One action that can make Troy seem like a villain is not allowing Cory to go on a play football for North Carolina. Troy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Policy Failures Essay Policy failures Immediate reaction to the Great Recession could have assumed that it was an intelligence failure perpetrated by the failure to understand and anticipate the risk in the economy. Or perhaps there was too much noise to be able to pick out clear indicators of the pending economic turmoil. However, to do so dismisses the culture of deregulation that existed throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. It also dismisses the political nature of financial policy making. Thus, at its core, the Great Recession occurred as a result domestic and foreign policy. But the USG chose not to bail out Lehman Brothers in September, instead allowing the bank to fail. That would become perhaps the biggest failed decision of the entire crisis, because it injected a lack of confidence into the markets. It caused a run on repos, similar to the bank runs traditionally seen in prior financial crises (Gorton and Metrick 279). However, the bank run came in the form of large banks concerned with the failure of other large banks, which had not traditionally occurred. Accordingly, the stock market crashed as the last remaining shreds of confidence exited the markets and a herd mentality ensued globally. From foreign policy makers perspective, the most significant failure was to not understand the tight coupling between the US and the rest of the developed world. Figure 4 demonstrates the prevalence of financial crises across the world and the number of countries involved. A cursory glance demonstrates the drastic increases following 1970. Evidence existed that coupling in global finance was increasing systemic risk. However, policy makers globally failed to heed the evidence and make meaningful action towards protecting against systemic risk. Thus, policy makers failed to make any meaningful developments in increasing shock absorption capabilities. Application to the literature Policy making in the financial sector is complex and ... However, what if those very same words were the source of dishonesty and lies in the world today? In his essay Politics and the English Language, George Orwell explains how language is used to hide facts that may sound displeasing to the public, while in his text The Psychopathology of Everyday Life (1901), Sigmund Freud proves how language is used to hide unacceptable thoughts deep within our minds. Orwell and Freud hold different opinions on what language is used to hide due to their differing historical contexts, but they both conclude that language, in its current state, cannot be trusted. Orwell offers several reasons as to why the English language is in decline, but his analysis of political writings and misuse of phrases best concludes how and why the language cannot be trusted. As he describes the writing, he emphasizes the euphemisms and bad habits that stem from it. He states, When there is a gap between one s real and one s declared aims, one turns as it were instinctively to long words and exhausted idioms, like a cuttlefish spurting out ink. Criminal Profiling And The Criminal Justice System Many Criminologist and Psychologists believe that there are specific psychological traits that can disconnect a person from the rest of society. Criminal profiling is the approach that an individual who commits a crime, may leave some sort of psychological evidence that can be crucial to an investigation. This theory is a vital part of the criminal justice system today. Criminology targets why individuals commit crimes and why they behave in certain situations. By understanding why a person commits a crime, you can develop ways to control crime or change the criminal to a certain extent. There are many theories in criminology. Some characterize crime to the individual. They believe that an individual weighs the pros and cons and makes a choice whether or not to act criminally. Others believe it is the community s responsibility to make sure that citizens do not commit crime by offering them a safe place to live in, in society. Food producers must increase food production by 70% in order to feed the increasing population (Rangel, 2015, para. 20). A solution to increase the production from farms across the globe is to genetically modify food. Scientists can manipulate the genes of different crops to increase the crops size, quantity, shelf life and even resistance to pests. In recent years, genetically modified foods have begun to show up in grocery stores across the globe. Some consumers do not object to eating genetically modified food, but others have started to question how genetically modified food could affect the consumer. Rangel (2015) wrote that genetically modified objects are not new to society and should be nothing to worry about. He stated that humans have altered the genetics of organisms for over 30,000 years through the process of selective breeding or artificial selection (para. 1). Selective breeding may not be conducted in a lab like genetically modified objects (GMO) today, but it is comparable to GMOs because through selective breeding, farmers choose the plants with the most desirable traits and plant the seeds from those plants in order to have an enhanced crop the following year. The leader of the Bolshevik Party, Vladimir Lenin was a big supporter of Karl Marx. Another Marxist who leads this revolution was Leon Trotsky. In an article by the History.com Staff, Lenin had created an, almost, bloodless coup d état against the provisional government. ( Russian Revolution ). The Bolshevik revolution started when, Alexander Kerensky, rather than follow an order. On October 24th, Kerensky ordered troops that were loyal, to act against the Bolshevik. The Effect Of Gibberellic Acid On The Germination Of Seeds The Effect of Gibberellic Acid on the Germination of Seeds Authors Bijin Johnson, Veronica Razon, Harmony Juanta, Charlee Parr and Cathleen Castro. Introduction In this practical, six bags containing twelve histrix cactus seeds each were taken and another six bags containing twelve rocket salad seeds in each bag. Each bag was experimented with different concentrations of gibberellic acid to see how fast each would grow. This Hormone is responsible for growth and development in the plant. Therefore, small concentrations of this plant can help a plant grow faster but too large concentrations can have the opposite effect (Triplantanol, 2011). This chemical comes in the form of a yellowish powder that is dissolved in water and given to the plant (Wikipedia, 2015). Variables Independent Variable: The amount of Gibberellic Acid in each bag. Dependent Variable: The number of seeds germinated each day. • 43. The Creek Field Is An Old Accumulation And Is Reaching The... The Darst Creek Field is an old accumulation and is reaching the end of its primary production phase. It offers the unique operational constraints of its targets being primarily of carbonate lithology (limestone s and chalks.) This structural composition offers potential to be enhanced via a chemical or water flood due to its relatively high permeability and other reservoir characterization. Contained within is the research and findings after building and executing a simulation of the potential for a flood in this area. 1 Introduction Water and polymer flooding have seen a surge in older fields as a method of extracting bypassed hydrocarbons in the secondary production phase of the reservoir. Typically, the floods have seen the largest increase of EUR in reservoirs that have highly mobile fluids and with a high permeability formation. This allows the fluids to rapidly move through the formation and push the desired hydrocarbons towards our production wells. These reservoirs are typically in the form of deeper sandstone reservoirs, but studies are being conducted in an attempt to implement the floods in other reservoir types. Through this paper we will evaluate the needs of an EOR process in carbonate formations to evaluate their potential implementation in the Darst Creek Oil Field in Luling, Texas. The evaluation will evaluate studies of flood effectiveness in other carbonate reservoirs to evaluate both the operational and theoretical constraints of this specific ...
