Before investors invest in a company, he or she must take various items into consideration. First, both
paid in capital and earned capital are looked at. These items tell investors how well the company is
doing and if the company is profitable. Next, investors look at earnings, basic and diluted. Once an
investor takes the above into consideration, he or she can then make the decision whether to invest in a
company or not. This paper will discuss why it is important to keep paid in capital separate from
earned capital. How earned capital and basic earnings are more important than paid in capital and
diluted earnings will also be discussed.
Before one can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a company has a retained earnings balance that exceeds the amount of paid in capital, an investor is
more likely to invest in that company. A company that has most of it money from investors could be a
red flag to investors. This shows a company may be less willing to save their company because a lot
of the owner s money is not invested. As an investor basic earnings per share are more important than
diluted earnings. Basic earnings consist only of common stock or includes no potential common stock
that upon conversion or exercise could dilute earnings per common share (Kieso, D. E., Weygandt,
J.J., amp; Warfied, T. D., 2007). In a sense, basic earnings do not reduce the earnings per share. Basic
earnings are part of a simple capital structure. Diluted earnings are part of a complex capital structure
and have the potential to be converted to common stock. Upon conversion or exercise by the holder,
the dilutive securities reduce (dilute) earnings per share (Kieso, D. E., Weygandt, J.J., amp; Warfied,
T. D., 2007). A complex structure is when a corporation has earnings that may be diluted. Basic
earnings are more important because an investor has less potential to lose money because basic
earnings cannot be reduced. An investor would most likely not want to invest in a complex
corporation because his or her earnings per share may be reduced, which means he or she may lose
money instead of gaining money. For financial

Essay on You Decide Vancouver Symphony Orchestra
The main thing that pops out with this state of affairs is the main objective. The symphony is
attempting to interpret what has caused a fixed degeneration in attendance. I m not sure this exact
survey on this evening at a free concert is the finest method to discover what the problem is. First off,
this is not the symphony s primary group of spectators; many of these people will not be attending
another event, so their statistics shouldn t be held so highly. Next, this group of attendees will not be
answering questions relating to previous concerts and involvements that may have altered over the
years. The survey will be rather vain in defining a campaign or program to help out the rest of the
year. We are dealing with two very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As far as the parking goes, there must be a plan to offer a discount on public transportation with every
new season ticket holder that signs up before the next season. Also the next season should also have a
series of mini packages of select concerts at a smaller rate. This would entice that group who does
enjoy the symphony but would have been most likely to have responded to the price issue on the
survey.
The major weakness in the survey was not targeting the core group of subscribers that the initial
decline in attendance was targeted as a problem. Because the majority of the respondents had not been
too a concert in several years, this information will do very little to discover why there has been a loss
in season ticket holders year to year. Unfortunately a separate survey must be done at the next
regularly scheduled event. This survey must concentrate on the following key areas:
1. Most important reason for attending the concerts. 2. Relative importance of cost of tickets. 3.
Relative importance of musical selection. 4. Input on how the experience can be improved.
This information should be used as a catalyst for retaining this year s core subscribers; a reward for
this information should be a discount on early purchase of next season s tickets. This should be a
major goal since an early indication of next year s subscriber base will give the symphony an idea as
to if this promotion and changes are

Company Structure And Its Types Grounded On Australian...
Introduction:
This report is based on the knowledge about company structure and its types grounded on Australian
standards, the features which different organizations possess while functioning and the obligations
implied on them in light of Australian standards. Secondly the major differences between large and
small companies have also been discussed in this report, that what are those criteria which separate
large companies from small? And the last part discusses the role which the organizations are playing
in the progress of regulation of companies in Australia. The main purpose of these procedures is to
bring uniformity in the regulatory system of Australian companies.
Company Structure:
A company s structure can be either private or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

3. No Liability Company:
This type of company is only in Australia, specifically for the mining companies. It can be
differentiated by any of the traditional companies their stakeholders are not responsible to pay calls on
unpaid shares. Purchasing of their shares is supposed to bind the shareholders into a binding contract
because of high degree of risk in the business of mining.
4. Unlimited Companies:
Such type of companies formed with or without a shared capital, but the liabilities of the members are
unlimited. At the time of company s liquidation for the payment of financial liabilities the members of
the company are obligated to settle those liabilities.
Proprietary (Private) Companies:
Private companies don t have shares for general public. In case of selling their shares to a new
shareholder requires approval from board of directors and with their mutual consent company s shares
can be transferred to any new shareholder. Such companies are required to have at least one member
up to the maximum limit of fifty members. These companies can be recognized as Pty Ltd in the last
of their names.
Private companies are further divided into two types:

Twa Flight 847 Essay
To begin, the transportation system and the methods they use have greatly impacted both how and
where people decide to live. The transportation system is a very important aspect to any nation s
economy. As stated, transportation systems also offer opportunities for terrorists who wish to disrupt
and damage transportation systems and injure an immense number of people. In 1985, TWA Flight
847 was hijacked on a flight from Athens to Rome. The plane was overtaken by Shitte Hezbollah
terrorists who desperately wanted to know the identity of the passengers with Jewish sounding names.
The two terrorists who are of a Lebanese decent that were armed with a 9 millimeter gun and grenades

by not identifying them to the terrorists. The passengers were finally freed after being held for about
seventeen days, but the terrorists specifically hand picked five guys of all the passengers to not free.
Of the remaining passengers held, only Richard Herzberg, in which he was an American, that was of
Jewish descendants. For the next fourteen days, the hostage Herzberg maintained to the terrorists that
he came from a Lutheran of German and Greek descent. The remaining hostages were transported to
an infested jail in Beirut, Lebanon. Luckily they weren t mistreated or tortured. After negotiations with
the terrorists, they were able to release to hostages without any harm being done. The terrorists were

“To face the blood and the slaughter” Spartan Society and...
To face the blood and the slaughter Spartan Society and Values according to Tyrtaeus and Xenophon
No man ever proves himself a good man in war unless he can endure to face the blood and the
slaughter, go against the enemy and fight with his hands. The preceding was quoted from The Spartan
creed by the poet Tyrtaeus. There are two authors in this primary resource reading which include
Tyrtaeus as well as Xenophon, whom authored The laws and customs of the Spartans . These two
works give great detail to the Spartan society. As history has presented it, Sparta was a smaller polis
and yet was one of the most, if not most, influential societies in history. What we know of this culture
comes to us from excavation of its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Western Civilizations volume I, chapter 3 The Greek Experiment , men over the age of
60 were elected to the gerousia; a counsel of 28 elders, which was the main policy making body of
Sparta. These men were revered and yet even they paid homage to the elite warriors; even giving up
their seats whenever courtesy was allowed. Tyrtaeus motives are clear here that to be brave and win in
war was above all else in society. The same is still true in our culture s today.
When women and men enter the army and make their way up the ranks by all the necessary works,
they are given different statuses and markings. People are called general, commander and issued
different insignia to be seen by all. Soldiers are respected and admired and just as in Spartan times
when people would point to fallen hero s tombs with pride, there is still that revelry today. A national
cemetery is offered to those of the bravest and truest hero s. Although, some views today could argue
that just as the US is imposing on others and causing unjust wars for its own views; the Spartans
valued and went to war just to obtain that highly glorified status.
It was not enough in this reading to become the fastest, strongest, most handsome, powerful, or richest
person. It was the acts perceived in war that were most important. In order to achieve

Christian Faith Jesus Is The Father Of God Or The Son Of Man

BIB 314
Fresno Pacific University/ North Campus
Introduction According to Christian faith Jesus is the son of God or the son of man. To me He is my
savior meaning he is the one that was sent to die on the cross for me and all of creation. I believe Jesus
was able to feel and go through a lot of the struggles that so many of us go through every day. Jesus is
my healer, he was beaten and bruised and because of it I believe that he healed me. He was a perfect
example of how we should live life, giving the good news that he was sent by God to heal everyone
who was sick, to restore families and households. He gives hope to those that are poor, he preached
that God wanted them to be wealthy and have an abundant life. He did not come to condemn me but to
encourage me. However according the book of Matthew based on who Jesus is he is compassionate,
healer and responds to our Faith.
How would I React?
If I was exiting the 99 highway and a women is standing at the end of the exit ramp, in old clothing
with a somber look on her face. I noticed she has a small bottle of vodka and is smoking a cigarette.
She holds a sign that reads Homeless Widow. No family. No money Anything helps, God Bless. What
issues would Jesus raise concerning this situation? How would Jesus respond? Based on who Jesus is I
believe that he would tell the homeless women to drop her cigarettes and alcohol, he would tell her
that her

Homosexual Police Officers
Abstract
Media coverage surrounding alternative sexualities has also expanded in recent years and, in the wake
of gay liberation and the emergence of lesbian and gay studies, an ever increasing flow of academic
documentation pertaining to sexual orientation has flourished. We now know more about homosexual
lives in general and about the experiences of particular groups such as those in prison those who offer
sex in exchange for money and those who lived during particular historical periods. However, with the
knowledge and awareness about what it means to be gay or lesbian has increased considerably, there
remains an ignorance on a number of homosexual issues. Explanations of why sexual orientations
differ are still inadequate, and in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Support Organizations
The presence of women and gay men on the police force challenges the traditional heterosexually
masculine definition of the occupation. Recognizing the need for gay and lesbian police officers and
other criminal justice professionals to have an arena to discuss needs and concerns in an atmosphere
free of job related reprisals, the Gay Officers Action League (GOAL) was established in 1981. GOAL
continues to provide a safe environment for people who have been, and continue to be, victims of
harassment and discrimination in the workplace, while at the same time attempting to change
homophobic attitudes in the workplace and in the community at large (Dahir, 1999). Other
organizations such as Law Enforcement Gays and Lesbians (LEGAL) also offer support for gay,
lesbian, bisexual and transgender workers in the criminal justice system. According to Dahir (1999),
The Gay Police Association (GPA) was formed in 1990 by a handful of officers in the Metropolitan
Police. Since then it has grown into a formally recognized and respected staff association with
members in all 52 UK police forces. The GPA is the only national organization that specifically
represents the needs and interests of gay police staff in the United Kingdom (para.1). Membership is
open to all Gay, Lesbian, Bi sexual, Transgender and Transsexual Police Officers and Police Staff.

Karel Benz s Impact On The Modern World
Karel Benz was the first person to make the car. The first car was known as the Motorwagen.
Karel Benz was also the creator of a car company that still exists today. It took a lot of improvements
and redesigning of the car to make it run smoothly and efficiently. The creation of the car had a huge
impact on the modern world.
Karl Benz was born in 1884 in Karlsruhe. His father died due to an accident when Benz was 2 years
old. Even though his father died Benz s mother supported him and his education.
After a lot of hard work Benz was able to be admitted to the University of Karlsruhe at the age
15. He graduated in 1864 with a mechanical engineering degree. Karel Benz patented the first gasoline
powered car in 1886. But he was not the original designer of the car. It all started ... Show more

The internal combustion engine is vital to the modern automobile. An internal combustion engine uses
an explosive combustion of fuel to push a piston within a cylinder. The piston moves to turn a
crankshaft that is connected to the car s wheels through a drive shaft.
Without an engine a car could not move. The internal combustion engine has a long history of how it
was improved and redesigned, without which the car would wouldn t be able to function.
In 1680 Christiaan Huygens designed an internal combustion engine fueled by gunpowder. Then in
1826 Samuel Brown altered a steam engine to burn gasoline and put it on a carriage. Later Jean Joseph
Etienne Lenoir patented a double acting, spark ignition internal combustion engine fueled by coal gas
in 1858. Then he improved the engine so it would run on petroleum and it was attached to a three
wheeled wagon which could travel 50 miles. In 1873 an
American engineer named George Brayton developed a two stroke kerosene engine. Then in
1876 Nikolaus August Otto improved the two stroke kerosene engine into the four stroke engine.
Later in 1885 Gottlieb Daimler invented the prototype of the modern gasoline engine. Then

School Is Bad For Children By John Holt
This nation s best and strongest leaders attended school as children. Leaders such as John F. Kennedy
and Franklin D. Roosevelt ( School House to White House ). Can their success as leaders be attributed
to school? Or would they have been successful without that education? School is where they were
inspired and pushed to their limits. The challenges of studying various subjects, completing
homework, forming new ideas, participating in extracurricular activities, and making friends are part
of the common heritage of an American education shared by everyone including our Presidents (
School House to White House ). In John Holt s School is Bad for Children Holt makes a plea to free
children from the classroom (Preface). He outlines several ways that America s education system is
harming children and introduces several ways he believes it can be improved. Although Holt makes a
few logical arguments, his essay lacks credibility and his ideas to abolish school attendance, to always
have paired learning, and to end fixed curriculum (leave much to be argued)
Holt makes several assumptions and talks of schools that do certain things but he never uses evidence
to back up what he says. This makes his essay less credible because it is only written from his
experiences and his opinion. Holt says, In a school I know of... (Holt 75), ... a number of schools...
(Holt 75), and In many schools... he can t even talk to them at lunch (Holt 73). Who are these schools?

Scott Sanders Use Of Metaphors In This Passage Annotation
Throughout this passage Scott Russell Sanders uses metaphors to persuade the readers to think
migration is not a helpful characteristic in human beings lives. You can see this by the metaphor, The
habit of our industry and commerce has been to force identical schemes onto differing locales, as
though the mind were a cookie cutter and the land were dough from the article (Sanders 59). With this
quote the author is trying to say cookie dough is like the land and we are like a cookie cutter, that is
why this is a metaphor because he is comparing us and the land to another object. The author uses this
quote to explain how migration has forced us to move industries to lands that can not handle it. He
relates cookie dough and us being the cookie

African American Literature And Literature Essay
African American literature is the body of work produced in the United States by writers of African
descent. This particular genre traces back to the works from the late eighteenth century by writers such
as Phillis Wheatley to later reaching early high points with slave narratives and the Harlem
Renaissance, and thus continuing today with authors such as Colson Whitehead and Maya Angelou.
Among the themes and issues explored within African American literature are the roles of African
Americans within the larger American society, African American culture, racism, slavery, and equality.
African American writing has also tended to incorporate oral forms such as spirituals, gospel music,
jazz, and rap. Dating back to the pre Revolutionary War period, African American writers have
engaged in a creative dialogue with American letters. The result is a literature rich in culture and social
insight. These pieces offer illuminating assessments of American identities as well as its history. Since
the time of early slavery African American literature has been overlooked within the literature
criticism. This essay thrives to show that within the English profession African American literature
does belong alongside the great works such as A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and poetry as A
Road less taken by Robert Frost. I will dive deep into history to not only investigate what critics think
about African American literature, but why is it not held to a higher standard just as American

Critique of a Website Essay
Critique of a Website
Web sites are just like magazines, newspapers, brochures, menus, or even directions on how to make
nitroglycerin from house hold goods, in that they all have to be put together in such a manner that
whoever is reading or browsing over it will be able to clearly distinguish this from that. In this sense, a
critique of any particular web site will have justification, while carefully considering also that this is
an altogether new medium of information exchange. Now, all of this talk of togetherness is actually a
general reference to basic design principles, such as color coordination, if color is used, text size, font
choice/ style, art integration, accessibility, and just plain and simple design of the page. For ... Show

I m not saying make up is evil, but we all know what s in somewhat good taste, and what isn t. But,
hey!, I could be wrong: There could actually be a great person hiding under that crusty exterior; most
of the time there is. A balance needs to be achieved or at least strived for when designing a web page
or any page for that matter. I m not trying to rag on Raygun or anything, because I like A LOT of the
stuff that they do, but one must not get carried away with it and ignore what one is supposed to be
doing in the first place. For this reason I have chosen to pick on the Alternative X web site
(http://www.altx.com/), for this paper. Well, not really pick on them, but you know what I mean. So in
our quest to discover the ideal web page we must look at the following things: 1) Does it make sense?
Is its layout so erratic in such a way as to render the viewer blind because of the designers lack of
vision and utter stupidity? 2) Organization. How and why were things placed in the places they were
placed, needs to be known, or at least made seemingly apparant. 3) Since this is a web site we are
critiquing, and like a Choose Your Own Adventure Book one can skip to another section with almost
no fear of being inquisitioned, does its links lead to somewhere meaningful?
The first thing one sees when first viewing this page is a yellow screen with a single X in the center
with alt typed across it. Nice. Let me go off on a tangent here: I

The Iran Contra Affair Was A Shocking Incident
The Iran contra affair was a shocking incident nonetheless, two covert operations that took place under
the Ronald Reagan administration. It was a secret operation that involved an agreement to provide
funds or assets to the Nicaraguan contra fighter to aid them to overthrow their Marxist government.
However, it was money gained from Iran weapons deals. The affair took place around the year 1980s
and had two initiatives. First, was the agreement to help Contras that were at war with the Sandinista
Government of Nicaragua. Secondly, was the use of placating moderators within Iran government to

With no funds continue the Reagan administration decided they would keep a hidden profile from the

Iran and Iraq were at each other s throats, Iran proposed a request to buy weapons from the united

Copper Carbonate Lab Report
The reaction characteristics of basic copper carbonate 〖mCuCO〗_3⋅n〖Cu(OH)〗_2 were
observed by changing the reaction mole ratio. The reaction mole ratio of sodium carbonate to copper
chloride (II) was controlled from 1.08 to 1.68. Fig. 1 shows the XRD patterns of copper carbonate
powder. At a reaction ratio of 1.08, paratacamite (Cu_2 Cl(OH)_3 ), beside alkali copper carbonate,
was formed because of incomplete reaction at a copper content of 53.9 wt%. Lack of sodium
carbonate may cause incomplete reaction with copper chloride (II) because of low pH (6.0) of the
solution [12]. The copper content according to the reaction mole ratio were 57.7, 50.5, 58.8, 59.3, and

The malachite basic copper carbonate formed as CuCO3 ⋅ Cu(OH)2 shows bright green, whereas that
of azurite formed as 2CuCO3 ⋅ Cu(OH)2 shows strong blue. In this study, most of the manufactured
copper carbonate was converted to malachite basic copper carbonate of bright green at the reaction
mole ratio of 1.20. In the case of low reaction ratio of sodium carbonate, m, the stoichiometric
coefficients of CuCO3, is higher than n, the stoichiometric coefficient of Cu(OH)2, so that the amount
of CuCO3 is generated is more than that of Cu(OH)2. With increasing reaction mole ratio of sodium
carbonate, m is lower than n so that the generation rate of CuCO_3 is lower than that of Cu〖(OH)〗

Digital Data And The Internet
In today s society, people tend to operate the majority of their everyday tasks through the internet. It is
really simple, comfortable, and it saves a lot of time. In one hour individual can perform a deposit into
his particular bank account, request a pharmaceutical prescription, apply for a mortgage, pay bills, do
online shopping and more. All it requires a customer to be able to do this is having an account with
any of these company s websites. Creating an account is normally a very manageable process where
the person provides some information and creates a username and a password to be in a position to
return to the website. This data provided by the consumer is called: digital data or digital information,
which is just any kind of information in digital format. Digital data can be public or private, it can be
kept by the medical providers, banks, government, and other organizations; as well as an easily
available on the internet on social media websites, etc. However is our data really secure? Along with
its many advantages, the advancement of technology presents an encompassing examination network
seem almost necessary. We owe enough of the privacy we have experienced in the past to a
combination of immature technology and insufficient labor to monitor us. But these protective
inabilities are giving way to efficiency technologies of data processing and digital surveillance that

Research Paper On Abdominoplasty

That is the big and formal name for a tummy tuck. There are full tucks and there are mini or partial
tuck. It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish. The main purpose for a tummy tuck is to
remove loose skin, excess fat tissue and to tighten the abdominal muscles, all in one fell swoop. This
is a full tuck. A partial tuck will work only on removing the excess or just tightening the muscles to
give that sculpted look. The loose skin can result

was not a religious issue it was a question of women s freedom and dignity. There is a lot of people
who disagree with the law and say they should be able to dress how they want without being arrested
or getting a fine. The fine for wearing a burqa in public is $150 euro that is 217 US dollars. Anyone
found forcing a women to cover her face or to wear a burqa is faced with a 30,000 euro fine that is
35,529 US dollars. Data showed that from 2015 1,546 fines have been imposed. In the video Was
France right to ban the burqa? a couple was interviewed by a reporter and the husband states it is the
wife s choice to wear the burqa, if she doesn t wear it or does wear it he would support her. A guy that
worked for the President during the time of the ban agreed with President Sarkozy and stated he is the
victim because they are not allowing him to see the women s face if they have the burqa on. A young
Priest was interviewed and he gave his thoughts on the burqa ban. The young Priest is all for the burqa
ban because he thinks with women wearing a burqa it makes Islam look bad. An older Priest was also
interviewed and he also gave his thoughts on the burqa ban. The older Priest agrees with the burqa ban
and says men should not control what a woman wears. The older Priest also bans

Steroid Use in Major League Baseball Essay
Steroid Use in Major League Baseball
Why Major League Baseball players would use steroids is the biggest question that every person in
the world wants to know. I think MLB players use steroids so they can bulk up and get stronger, which
will allow them to last through the long, seven month season. I think that because they play 162 games
a year during these seven months that this causes a great deal of wear and tear on their bodies.
Especially if a player gets hurt, they might try to take illegal medicines, such as steroids, to help them
get back on the field quicker, hoping that maybe they could help their team win the pennant. Steroids
however, are indeed very dangerous because they mess with the body s hormones. ... Show more

Everyone who he named was playing good baseball at the time he said they were taking steroids. For
example, Mark McGwire was one baseball player s name that came up. He broke the record for home
runs in a season in 1998. It seemed impossible to break that record at the time, but he did it. Now
nobody knows if he was on steroids or not. When he had to come in front of a court recently, and they
asked him questions about doing steroids, he said that he could not say not because his lawyer advised
him not to and that it might hurt him and his family in the long run. When he did not answer the
question, I myself lost respect for him because, to me, that meant he did indeed do steroids. He was
the only player that did not answer the question. Sammy Sosa and Rafael Palmerio answered that they
did not do steroids. Canseco also said that he not only injected McGwire, but also Jason Giambi.
Giambi was the most obvious steroid user, and he actually admitted to doing steroids this year in front
of a grand jury. If steroids were allowed in the MLB, there would probably be all kinds of new
records, but this would not accomplish much because they were broken with the help of steroids. In
Major League baseball this off season, there has been a lot of controversy about steroids. The
commissioner of MLB, Bud Selig, has banned steroid usage from the game. Everyone this off season
was shocked when Canseco wrote a book called Juiced, in which he told when he

Drag Queen Analysis
Drag queens have spent years performing for themselves and for many other people. Their shows
today are a way to express themselves and make people question what they know about gender and
sexuality. Rupp and Taylor in their book, Drag Queens at the 801 Cabaret discuss this subject in detail,
calling their performances a form of protest. They question the roles that society has put them into,
and in turn provoke their audiences to question these things, such as gender and sexuality. This type of
social protest is called subversion. Through this book, we can more specifically look at two types of
subversion that played a major role in the 801 drag queen s performances. The first, and most obvious,
is the idea of masculinity versus femininity, and how the Queens use different techniques to break free
from the traditional way of thinking about these concepts. The second is the overt way that the Queens
portray sex and sexuality, in ways that are impossible for the audience to ignore. Both these types of
subversion have an overarching theme of crossing boundaries, whether over the division of the gender
binary, or the limits of what is socially acceptable to talk about regarding sex. Drag queens envelop
the audience and take many of them out of their comfort zone.
What it means to be feminine and masculine in our society has been drilled into each and every one of
us since birth. Men are taught to act a certain way, so as to be the breadwinners and protectors of
women. Women

Kamehameha is significant to history because he was the King of Hawaii and did many great things

other challenges throughout his life. These are reasons why Kamehameha l is very significant to

Personal Statement Essay
People who know me typically find out pretty quickly that next to my passion for medicine, I am
actually one of the world s hugest computer geeks. In fact, when I first entered college, I toyed with
the idea of studying computer science before I realized that the study of the human body was so much
more exciting because it allows me to combine my fervor for computers and merge it with my interest
in medicine.
Once I began medical school, I started to see the human body like the hardware of a computer system.
For example, the nervous system the midbrain is the CPU and the cortex acts as RAM. The spinal
cord acts as the motherboard, creating a system for impulses to travel back and forth. The eyes and

Once that diagnosis has been hypothesized, appropriate treatment acts as the debugging phase. If a

With the ability and appreciation for contemplating a particular pathway from my computer science
background, I found the task of organizing a patient s multiple complaints into a particular pathology
to be most fascinating. This obsession has sparked anticipation to specialize in endocrinology, diabetes

endocrine system involves a delicate system of hormones in the hypothalamic pituitary axis. Any
disruption in the pathway resulted in a symptomatic change that can be elicited from the patient. The
objective simply becomes identifying these symptoms and associating it with the appropriate
disruption in the pathway.
Methodical thinking has also helped me to comprehend the careful equilibrium of the body s

noticed my weight had increased to about 210 pounds. With a height of 69 inches, my BMI was 31

Freedom iin Kate Chopin s The Awakening Essay
Finding Freedom in The Awakening
In her novel, The Awakening, Kate Chopin shows Edna Pontellier¹s confrontations with society, her
imprisonment in marriage and Edna¹s exploration of her own sexuality. Chopin also portrays Edna as
a rebel, who after her experiences at Grand Isle wants to live a full and a free life and not to follow the
rules of society. Edna¹s life ends in her suicide, but her death does not come as a surprise. Chopin
foreshadows Edna¹s death by the use of nature and Edna¹s connection to it; also by the use of symbols,
especially the symbolic meaning of a bird; and by the use of many different characters in the novel,
such as Robert Lebrun, Mademoiselle Reisz and Madame Ratignolle.

Mademoiselle Reisz tells Edna that people are cruel and if Edna doesn¹t feel strong enough, she will
be like a weakling bruised, exhausted, fluttering back to earth (533). This conversation foreshadows
Edna¹s lack of strength and her death. As Edna takes her last swim, she sees the bird with a broken
wing , falling down to the water (558). Edna feels weak; she falls down into the waters of Grand Isle.
When Edna meets Robert Lebrun at Grand Isle, she experiences an awakening from her life long,
stupid dream , as she recalls her life (553). She is ready to give her heart to Robert, but he flees Grand
Isle and Edna before he ruins his reputation as a good Creole . Robert knows that the Creole husband
is never jealous about the harmless flirting and as a good Creole , Robert cannot go beyond these
social boundaries (475). Robert follows the rules of his society; his departure foreshadows his future
actions towards Edna. She returns to her pigeon house and finds that Robert is not waiting for her and
the house is empty (556). Robert is gone again. Edna remembers the warning of Mademoiselle Reisz
about the cruelty of society. Edna is scared to face the cruelty alone. Edna feels that without Robert by
her side she is helpless. Edna doesn¹t want anyone near her except Robert (557) but he cannot be a
good Creole and be with Edna. Even if Robert would be

Assassin Counter Culture
The bi racial rap group Assassin can relate specifically to traditional American Rap fans in France as
their sound is very similar due to the beats that they use for their songs. Similar in sounds to rappers
alike the Notorious B.I.G, N.W.A (N*gga s With Attitude), Dr Dre, Tupac Shakir and the ladder of 90
s American rap legends, Assassin use backing tracks that are very repetitive in order to create a
sustained beat allowing listeners to focus on their lyrics whether they were part of a political statement
or spoke about minorities or violence. This was through the technique of scratching vinyls, creating a
repetitive beat, firstly experimented by Grandwizard Theodore (Snapper, 2004). In Esclave de votre

Similarities Of Creation Myths
Creation myths are stories describing or explaining the creation of the world. Each culture has their
own creation myth and how they believe it all went about. However, there are many similarities within
the different cultures creation myths that I looked at. These similarities are called motifs. Motifs are
patterns you recognize within an idea. In my opinion, three of the most common creation myth motifs
are; humans being created from organic materials, having one creator and no shared power, and the
purpose for humans on the earth.
Humans being created from organic materials Looking back at all the creation myths I read about and
researched, I believe this is the most common motif. In my opinion, many cultures had to use organic
materials to create humans because there was just simply nothing else. There either was a god or
goddess, and an earth. The creators did not have much to work with and it took multiple tries most of
the time, but each culture did find a way to create some type of human being. The Greeks did not give
too much information on to why or how they made this happen, but we do know humans originally
came from dirt. The Hebrews and Christians started creating humans from dust, clay, and dirt. God
first used these organic materials to create Adam. The Babylonians used demons bones from the dead.
The Norse first used mud to create humans and they created 2 genders, male and female. The Chinese
also used mud, however a goddess created the first Chinese

Aldo Leopold The Land Ethic Analysis
The Land Ethic is an essay written by Aldo Leopald in order to convince readers of a new view
centered around the biotic community and the rejection of anthropocentrism. It continually supports
non human life along with human life as long as it is beneficial to the biotic community.
1. Carefully explain what Leopold means by the land ethic.
When speaking of the land ethic, Aldo Leopold states that A thing is right when it tends to preserve
integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it lends otherwise. This is
boiled down to a simple point saying that when something is eco friendly, it supports and is the Land
Ethic. However, if something fails to support the environment then it fails to support the land ethic ...

He states but just what and whom do we love? before going on to say Certainly not the soil...the
waters...the plants...the animals... (p239) Aldo Leopold despises the destruction of the land, therefore
this glamorization of the land used in tandem with destruction provided for a very disrespectful and
paradoxical view of the land. Why does Leopold believe that a land ethic is both an evolutionary
possibility and an ecological necessity? Evolutionary possibility: an evolution of the moral code. Now
including non humans. First ethic: between individuals.
Leopald believes that the land ethic is both an evolutionary possibility and an ecological necessity
because throughout the course of philosophy, there has been an evolution from first ethics which dealt
with relation between individuals (p238) to a land ethic which now focuses on the relation between
humans and non human, morally considerable beings. This transition has been an evolution of sorts
and has allowed, for some people, to broaden the view of life, ethics, and how one approaches
different scenarios that involve multiple morally considerable beings. The Land Ethic is an ecological
necessity because at this point in time humans view the world with an anthropocentric view. This has

Jason Bivins Jazz And Religion Summary
In his eye opening book, Jason Bivins analyzes the connection that jazz music has with American
religion. Not many scholars have decided to address this area religious studies.
He conducts interviews with multiple musicians, in an effort to grasp what level of impact that their
religion or spirituality had on their work.
He pushes for the need of religious experience to understanding jazz, while, at the same time, attempts
to show that jazz can serve as a catalyst for fresh interpretations to American religion.
Scholars of religion have begun to place a greater emphasis on the senses, particularly vision and
hearing
He lays out his case in eight chapters, which equally divide the book s main content into two parts.

Eventually, he begins to pivot to the influence of the other faiths. For example, Islam gave black jazz
artists another way to find their subjectivity. Much of the Islamic jazz artists can be attributed to the

In chapter 3, he focuses on how jazz is able to create narratives for American religion. He said that the
retellings of jazz employ strategies of evasion designed to counter attempts to control and commodify
jazz and religion alike... (Bivins, pg. 84).
In chapter four, he focuses on jazz communitarianism. Even in the participation of counter institutions,
there is an American desire to find freedom and resist the norms. There were numerous organizations
such as the Union of God s Musicians in Artists Ascension (UGMAA) and the Association for the
Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) who were able to foster growth in young musicians and
give them tools to better succeed in life. These functions were very similar to the functions of a church

It was the Worst of Times
The opening of A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens has much to say about a person s mortal
journey; It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
Our kids were growing up, and life was about to change radically for the Clarks and our future at

The fabric of our carefree existence was starting to show wear when in October of 2002, Kira was
diagnosed with breast cancer. Doctors performed surgery and six months of treatment followed. It
turned out that an unscrupulous insurance agent misrepresented the product he had sold us. We filed
two formal complaints with the North Carolina Insurance Commissioner, but the complaints were
rejected, and it was obvious that we were simply unwitting victims in another example of political
corruption.
We were forced to spend critical funds we had saved. We got some relief from medical assistance
programs that pitch in for people in situations like ours, but it could have been much worse if Kira s
generous cousin George hadn t come to our financial rescue. The bad news was we thought we had
catastrophic medical insurance that would protect us against present and future calamities, and this
would obviously not be the case going forward.
It was the middle of June before Coty, his friend Josiah Hyatt, and I arrived at the river. Kira came a

Reflection In My Life
Over the course of this semester me and our group success have participated in a variety of activities
coordinated by the Counselor Mrs. Warren which touch on topics oriented around college, careers, and
ourselves as people. These activities taught us life skills that we can apply in our life. For example,
some of the activities included learning to do or determine our SMART goals, long term goals,
skills/strengths, values and making decisions based on them, pathways to our potential
career/education. Therefore, what we learned as a group with Mrs. Warren was how to apply those life
skills taught in everyday life, How we would reach point A to point B, and learn more about ourselves
as people.

The Human Rights Of A Kangaroo Than A Police Car Essay
In Southern Hills, one would better spend their time searching for a kangaroo than a police car. In
conjunction with the majority of white suburban neighborhoods, crime was virtually non existent,
facilities well maintained, and school children always had a full lunch bag. In simple terms, life was
good. Living in such a community meant I never felt as though my basic human rights were ever
being violated because of my skin, gender, or religion. The extent of my knowledge regarding human
rights, while limited, derives from my concessions nature, that I acquired from typical Southern Hills
schooling. Being fortunate enough to have been born in a community safe from world atrocities has
allowed me to view the world in a much broader sense while simultaneously providing me the
understanding of how anyone, regardless of upbringing, can begin to change such daunting issues.
Two blocks from my house was Slavens k 8, one of the fastest growing and top rated schools in all of
Colorado. For 10 years, I was the beneficiary of an exemplary teaching and an overwhelmingly caring
environment. However, Slavens did lack one fundamental aspect of a continually expanding world: an
utter lack of diversity. For proper prospective, the 90 s show Friends was worlds more diverse than
Slavens. Such is a crucial reasoning behind my initial views on human rights. As far as I could tell, not
only was the entire world Caucasian, human rights were guaranteed, their ability to be harmed was

Moisture Scavenger Lab Report
Moisture Scavengers controls the effects of humidity in the application of two component. The
moisture scavenger must be rapidly react with water to avoid carbon dioxide bubbles generation or
any undesired byproducts, so, due to the rabid hydrolysis of the Vinyltrimethoxy silane in the acidic
water [14], it can be used as moisture scavenger in polyurethane coatings, where the hydrolysis
products are 3 moles of methanol and on mole of vinyl silanol (Scheme 1). The hydrolysis mechanism
involves the protonation of the leaving Methoxy group followed by a bimolecular SN2 type
displacement of the leaving group by water. The methanol will volatile along with the other solvents

Backing to (Table 2), we can start from the NCO relative reactivity for the primary hydroxyl attached
to carbon atom (equal 2.5), it is known that the electronegativity of the silicon atom is lower than the
carbon atom according to the periodic table of electronegativity by Pauling scale [22], so the
difference in electronegativity between the Si atom and the OH group will be higher than difference in
electronegativity between the carbon atom and the OH group, led to higher polarity and more
reactivity of the H3Si OH than H3C OH molecule. Also, in addition to the attached vinyl group to the
silicon atom, so, the relative reactivity of the silanol towards the diisocyanate must be greater than 2.5
(ex K4 2.5), and the overall relative value of the reaction B can be calculated KB= 0.75 + (value 2.5),
and hence, KB 3.25. Theoretically, the reaction B has a higher relative reaction rate than the reaction

The Importance Of Public Education
Since the beginning of public education, the responsibility of schools falls to the states. Through the
eighteenth century, public education was only for the wealthy due to the belief that poor children were
not worthy of being educated. In 1852, however then secretary of state of Massachusetts Horace Mann
urged that states be obliged to offer public education to all children. The revolutionary idea behind this
plea was that all individuals could and should be educated irrespective of economic class (School
Discipline History). During the mid nineteenth century, European models were being studied to
suggest kindness and encouragement towards students rather than corporal punishment. By 1910, it
was mandatory for all children to attend school. Teachers noticed an increase in absences, most likely
due to parental direction, which led the teachers role to become parental disciplinarians; teachers
functioned in loco parentis, meaning in the place of parents (School Discipline History). Good
discipline was shown as students sitting quietly as lessons were being taught from teacher to students.
After World War II, Dr. Benjamin Spock criticized these harsh techniques and encouraged parents and
teachers to be affectionate and flexible. Critics however would claim that Spock s theories would lead
children to become selfish, lazy, and unresponsive. In the end of the twentieth century, healthcare
professionals and educators became more informed about how student misbehavior

accomplish his artwork by what he decided looked dumb or bad visually and then he would take that
item and fix it or improve it. He was drawn to what others would call the lesser or basic, the lowest
level of art there was as in the 1950 s there was a rise of Abstract Expressionism and what was what

those types of hated images and make them into something different. After not continuing his work as

The Internet And Its Impact On Our Society Essay
Introduction
In order to achieve political, economic and personal advancement, the internet has played a major role
in it. The internet, according to Wikipedia, has many uses that include data sharing, e commerce,
booking of tickets, socializing, job searching, entertainment and also in e learning. With advancements
in technology, the number of users of the internet are increasing daily. With internet speed increasing
over time, the Internet brings knowledge and information on nearly every subject imaginable straight
to your computer. This has made our lives easier and more efficient. Though the internet has many
advantages, it has brought a lot of negative impact to our society.
Definition of the internet
The word Internet comes from the words Interconnection of Networks (Greenfield, 1999). According
to One book projects, the Internet is a worldwide interconnection of computer networks that transmit
information from one place to another using the standard Internet Protocol. It is also knwn as the Net.
In order to understand how the internet has an impact to our day to day lives, one needs to understand
its history.
History of the internet
According to Johnny Ryan (2010), the internet was first conceived in the early 1960 by the
Department of Defence in the United stated. It was first called APRAnet. With time, it evolved into a
communications channel among contractors, university researchers, and military personnel which lead

Case Title : NLRB on behalf of Mrs. Dawn vs. American Medical Response of Connecticut Company
Case number: 34 CA 012576 Date Opened: 01/19/2010 Status: closed Presentation of the Case The
case filed by NLRB was between the American Medical Response of Connecticut in New Haven and
one of their employees called Mrs. Dawn. Upon verbal disagreement with her supervisor, Mrs. Dawn
posted a negative remark on her private facebook wall about the supervisor. The remark attracted
comments from her staff mates. On reporting to work the following day, she was suspended and later
fired. The company argued that her act was a violation of their internet policy by criticizing her
overseer online. The Hartford NLRB office filed a complaint of unlawful dismissal of Mrs. Dawn
stating that the party was involved in protected concerted activity on Facebook at the time when she
criticized her senior. In addition, NLRB identified several unlawful provisions within the company s
manual of conduct. However, before hearing, the company opted for an out of court settlement with
Mrs. Dawn besides revising their unlawful provisions in their handbook. Rationale of the NLRB
Decision I agree with NLRB s decision since Dawn activity can be classified as a concerted activity.
Reflectively, a concerted activity is that which involves an employee expressing views t other
employees with the intention of either criticizing or suggesting an alternative response to mistreatment
at place of work.

Adoption of Leed as a Green Building Rating System in Nigeria
ARC 879: PROJECT FEASIBILITY STUDIES 2012 Adoption of LEED® as a Green Building
Rating System in Nigeria Going Green In Nigeria OMOEFE AGHIMIEN 119051038 ABSTRACT
Green building rating systems are in a state of constant flux and often differ from region to region.
Regardless, fundamental principles persist from which the rating system is derived. These include
sustainable sites and structure design efficiency, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials
efficiency, indoor environmental quality, operations and maintenance optimization, innovation and
design process, waste and toxic reduction etc. The essence of green building is an optimization of one
or more of these principles. The green building rating system, LEED® ... Show more content on

* Reduced air and water pollution (with direct health benefits) * Reduced water consumption *
Limited waste generation due to recycling and reuse * Reduced pollution loads * Increased user
productivity * Enhanced image and marketability. The concept of sustainable development can be
traced to the energy (especially fossil oil) crisis and the environment pollution concern in the 1970s.
The green building movement originated from the need and desire for more energy efficient and
environmentally friendly construction practices. There are a number of motives to building green,
including environmental, economic, and social benefits. However, modern sustainability initiatives
call for an integrated and synergistic design to both new construction and in the retrofitting of an
existing structure. Also known as sustainable design, this approach integrates the building life cycle
with each green practice employed with a design purpose to create a synergy amongst the practices
used. Green building brings together a vast array of practices and techniques to reduce and ultimately
eliminate the impacts of buildings on the environment and human health. It often emphasizes taking
advantage of renewable resources, e.g., using sunlight through passive solar, active solar, and
photovoltaic techniques and using plants and trees through green roofs, rain gardens, and for reduction
of rainwater run off. Many

The Impact Of Agile Software Development Approach On...
Impact of agile software development approach on industry Comparison of different agile methods
and their applicability
Today when the software industry is progressing rapidly, software usage and demand is expanding.
Software development is going to be more complex day by day. Changes requirements from the
customers make it more difficult and complex. Old approaches of software development are no more
useful in present scenario. They are not able to satisfy customers needs in given time [1]. As a result
new approaches and methodologies are bringing evolved. These new approaches have more helpful to
make a productive and flexible product. In modern research, to construct new mind maps in a

There are a number of software engineers who advocate this approach and there are huge software
development organizations that prefer agile approach to use than other traditional methodologies.
According to Andrew Begel and Nachiappan Nagappan [2] from more than two decade agile software
methodology is gaining acceptance by the professionals since 1990. Due to fast changing technology,
common customer can not define his needs properly. New approaches and methodologies were needed
able to define changing requirements properly. Traditional methods such as waterfall model are not
able to deal with real ways software engineering functions in software development. Some group of
software consultants signed the agile SD manifesto in 2001. This was the era when agile software
development was basically emerged. Main benefit of this approach is to promote and develop the
response and speed of software development to change the requirement as well as deadlines [3] [4].
There are many agile methods used in agile software methods. The most known method is extreme
programming generally called XP. Some others are Dynamic Software Development Methods DSDN,
Scrum and Crystal. These mentioned methods can be considered as a new idea plan that is based on
the traditional methods. Basic description of software development methodologies is given bellow as.

Pericles Funeral Oration
Nationalism s Hero
Historical Analysis of Pericles Funeral Oration Pericles Funeral Oration is a famous speech given
during the time of the Peloponnesian War. Though the exact words of Pericles famous Funeral Oration
made around 430 B.C are unknown, the speech s purpose and meaning was recorded by Thucydides.
Thucydides was a notable Greek historian, who often reported what was said as he would have said it.
The speech was delivered by Pericles around the end of the first year of the Peloponnesian War. He
was a prominent political and military leader in Athens during this time. Though a high level of
education was normal for Athenian political figures during this time, Pericles was said to have
excelled above most others. He was so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pericles continues even further, explaining that this sacrifice was an example of Athenian greatness.
His speech discusses further that Athenians would rather die resisting than to live submitting. They
fled only from dishonour but never from their enemies intent on destroying them. Pericles words
further praise there brave soldiers who perished in battle. Pericles goes on to say that Athenians
vengeance upon their enemies was to be desired more than any personal blessings. He says that war
with Athens enemies was to be the most glorious of hazards. They had accepted the honorable risk
again and died a glorious death. He conveys again to the Athenians citizens that destroying their
enemies was the highest honor an Athenians could hope to obtain. Pericles encourages the audience to
live up to the standards set by their fallen Athenians. Pericles offered his comfort but didn t express
condolences to the families of the fallen who were present in the crowds. Pericles towards the end of
his speech does something unusual. He simply honors the fallen soldiers that died in battle. He does
not mourn any of the soldiers, nor does he offer condolences to families in mourning. Pericles
explains that the soldiers had chosen to die as heroes and should be honored not mourned over. Their
sacrifice for Athens was a great accomplishment that was to be honored by all. He further assures the
families of the dead soldiers will be compensated for their

Advantages Of Auftragstaktik
Introduction As one American veteran of Normandy and the Rhineland puts it: until you ve fought the
German army, you have never fought a real battle (Bungay, 2003). One of the reasons of such a
reputation is the Auftragstaktik an effective command philosophy which origins from Prussia in early
19th century, which in contrast to direct command approach is mission oriented and based on local
initiative within the superior s intent. From the scratch Prussians and Germans managed developed
command philosophy which is adapted by most of modern armies in the temporary world.
Auftragstaktik was not an idea introduced into German military thinking by decree. Far from simple
or rapid, its adoption was a difficult, long running process (Widder, ... Show more content on

From the scope of many factors, in my opinion, there were three most important enabling factors
which affected process during the all developing period. First factor was independent mind set and
military culture of Prussian officers. Scharnhorst opened the intellectual ground for new way of
military thinking. Officer Corps was unlocked for middle class citizens. They were continuously
educated and then selected by merit. This concept was continuously cultivated by Scharnhorst s
successors. They maintained and improved the educational process which built ... the system of values
and beliefs ... that enable Prussian officers to exercise independence of mind (Stewart, 2010). All this
finally produced excellent leaders, with ability for rapid decision in any level of command. Therefore
independence of mind and intelligence became the key enablers for the development of the indirect
command philosophy. Second factor was the strong desire of to alter the state of the military affairs in
order to improve military capabilities. But what is important that it was not only based on critical
study history and lessons learned from wars, but also based on the analysis of different social and
technological innovations. Auftragstaktik represented a compromise that was necessary to achieve
some degree of control in a

Abraham s Son In Genesis 16
In Genesis 15, Abraham and his wife Sara still did not have a child and that was becoming a great
concern for him. Abraham lamented to God about his posterity. God reassures him saying, This one
shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir. 5 Then He
brought him outside and said, Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number
them. And He said to him, So shall your descendants be. Abraham believed God.
In Genesis 16, In her desperation to have a child through Abraham, Sarai, Abram s wife, gave her
Egyptian maidservant Hagar to her husband saying, Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain
children by her. He slept with Hagar, and she became pregnant. Hagar bore Abram

  • 2. Owners Equity Owner s equity paper Taisha Ransom ACC/423 August 29, 2011 Henry Leonard Before investors invest in a company, he or she must take various items into consideration. First, both paid in capital and earned capital are looked at. These items tell investors how well the company is doing and if the company is profitable. Next, investors look at earnings, basic and diluted. Once an investor takes the above into consideration, he or she can then make the decision whether to invest in a company or not. This paper will discuss why it is important to keep paid in capital separate from earned capital. How earned capital and basic earnings are more important than paid in capital and diluted earnings will also be discussed. Before one can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a company has a retained earnings balance that exceeds the amount of paid in capital, an investor is more likely to invest in that company. A company that has most of it money from investors could be a red flag to investors. This shows a company may be less willing to save their company because a lot of the owner s money is not invested. As an investor basic earnings per share are more important than diluted earnings. Basic earnings consist only of common stock or includes no potential common stock that upon conversion or exercise could dilute earnings per common share (Kieso, D. E., Weygandt, J.J., amp; Warfied, T. D., 2007). In a sense, basic earnings do not reduce the earnings per share. Basic earnings are part of a simple capital structure. Diluted earnings are part of a complex capital structure and have the potential to be converted to common stock. Upon conversion or exercise by the holder, the dilutive securities reduce (dilute) earnings per share (Kieso, D. E., Weygandt, J.J., amp; Warfied, T. D., 2007). A complex structure is when a corporation has earnings that may be diluted. Basic earnings are more important because an investor has less potential to lose money because basic earnings cannot be reduced. An investor would most likely not want to invest in a complex corporation because his or her earnings per share may be reduced, which means he or she may lose money instead of gaining money. • 3. Essay on You Decide Vancouver Symphony Orchestra The main thing that pops out with this state of affairs is the main objective. The symphony is attempting to interpret what has caused a fixed degeneration in attendance. I m not sure this exact survey on this evening at a free concert is the finest method to discover what the problem is. First off, this is not the symphony s primary group of spectators; many of these people will not be attending another event, so their statistics shouldn t be held so highly. Next, this group of attendees will not be answering questions relating to previous concerts and involvements that may have altered over the years. The survey will be rather vain in defining a campaign or program to help out the rest of the year. We are dealing with two very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As far as the parking goes, there must be a plan to offer a discount on public transportation with every new season ticket holder that signs up before the next season. Also the next season should also have a series of mini packages of select concerts at a smaller rate. This would entice that group who does enjoy the symphony but would have been most likely to have responded to the price issue on the survey. The major weakness in the survey was not targeting the core group of subscribers that the initial decline in attendance was targeted as a problem. Because the majority of the respondents had not been too a concert in several years, this information will do very little to discover why there has been a loss in season ticket holders year to year. Unfortunately a separate survey must be done at the next regularly scheduled event. This survey must concentrate on the following key areas: 1. Most important reason for attending the concerts. 2. Relative importance of cost of tickets. 3. Relative importance of musical selection. 4. Input on how the experience can be improved. This information should be used as a catalyst for retaining this year s core subscribers; a reward for this information should be a discount on early purchase of next season s tickets. This should be a major goal since an early indication of next year s subscriber base will give the symphony an idea as to if this promotion and changes are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The transportation system is a very important aspect to any nation s economy. As stated, transportation systems also offer opportunities for terrorists who wish to disrupt and damage transportation systems and injure an immense number of people. In 1985, TWA Flight 847 was hijacked on a flight from Athens to Rome. To face the blood and the slaughter Spartan Society and Values according to Tyrtaeus and Xenophon No man ever proves himself a good man in war unless he can endure to face the blood and the slaughter, go against the enemy and fight with his hands. The preceding was quoted from The Spartan creed by the poet Tyrtaeus. There are two authors in this primary resource reading which include Tyrtaeus as well as Xenophon, whom authored The laws and customs of the Spartans . According to Western Civilizations volume I, chapter 3 The Greek Experiment , men over the age of 60 were elected to the gerousia; a counsel of 28 elders, which was the main policy making body of Sparta. These men were revered and yet even they paid homage to the elite warriors; even giving up their seats whenever courtesy was allowed. Tyrtaeus motives are clear here that to be brave and win in war was above all else in society. The same is still true in our culture s today. When women and men enter the army and make their way up the ranks by all the necessary works, they are given different statuses and markings. People are called general, commander and issued different insignia to be seen by all. Soldiers are respected and admired and just as in Spartan times when people would point to fallen hero s tombs with pride, there is still that revelry today. A national cemetery is offered to those of the bravest and truest hero s. Although, some views today could argue that just as the US is imposing on others and causing unjust wars for its own views; the Spartans valued and went to war just to obtain that highly glorified status. I believe Jesus was able to feel and go through a lot of the struggles that so many of us go through every day. Jesus is my healer, he was beaten and bruised and because of it I believe that he healed me. He was a perfect example of how we should live life, giving the good news that he was sent by God to heal everyone who was sick, to restore families and households. He gives hope to those that are poor, he preached that God wanted them to be wealthy and have an abundant life. He did not come to condemn me but to encourage me. • 10. School Is Bad For Children By John Holt This nation s best and strongest leaders attended school as children. Leaders such as John F. Kennedy and Franklin D. Roosevelt ( School House to White House ). Can their success as leaders be attributed to school? Or would they have been successful without that education? School is where they were inspired and pushed to their limits. The challenges of studying various subjects, completing homework, forming new ideas, participating in extracurricular activities, and making friends are part of the common heritage of an American education shared by everyone including our Presidents ( School House to White House ). In John Holt s School is Bad for Children Holt makes a plea to free children from the classroom (Preface). He outlines several ways that America s education system is harming children and introduces several ways he believes it can be improved. Although Holt makes a few logical arguments, his essay lacks credibility and his ideas to abolish school attendance, to always have paired learning, and to end fixed curriculum (leave much to be argued) Holt makes several assumptions and talks of schools that do certain things but he never uses evidence to back up what he says. This makes his essay less credible because it is only written from his experiences and his opinion. Holt says, In a school I know of... (Holt 75), ... a number of schools... (Holt 75), and In many schools... he can t even talk to them at lunch (Holt 73). Who are these schools? How do we know if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You can see this by the metaphor, The habit of our industry and commerce has been to force identical schemes onto differing locales, as though the mind were a cookie cutter and the land were dough from the article (Sanders 59). With this quote the author is trying to say cookie dough is like the land and we are like a cookie cutter, that is why this is a metaphor because he is comparing us and the land to another object. • 12. African American Literature And Literature Essay African American literature is the body of work produced in the United States by writers of African descent. This particular genre traces back to the works from the late eighteenth century by writers such as Phillis Wheatley to later reaching early high points with slave narratives and the Harlem Renaissance, and thus continuing today with authors such as Colson Whitehead and Maya Angelou. Among the themes and issues explored within African American literature are the roles of African Americans within the larger American society, African American culture, racism, slavery, and equality. African American writing has also tended to incorporate oral forms such as spirituals, gospel music, jazz, and rap. Dating back to the pre Revolutionary War period, African American writers have engaged in a creative dialogue with American letters. The result is a literature rich in culture and social insight. These pieces offer illuminating assessments of American identities as well as its history. Since the time of early slavery African American literature has been overlooked within the literature criticism. This essay thrives to show that within the English profession African American literature does belong alongside the great works such as A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and poetry as A Road less taken by Robert Frost. I will dive deep into history to not only investigate what critics think about African American literature, but why is it not held to a higher standard just as American ... In this sense, a critique of any particular web site will have justification, while carefully considering also that this is an altogether new medium of information exchange. So in our quest to discover the ideal web page we must look at the following things: 1) Does it make sense? Is its layout so erratic in such a way as to render the viewer blind because of the designers lack of vision and utter stupidity? 2) Organization. How and why were things placed in the places they were placed, needs to be known, or at least made seemingly apparant. 3) Since this is a web site we are critiquing, and like a Choose Your Own Adventure Book one can skip to another section with almost no fear of being inquisitioned, does its links lead to somewhere meaningful? In one hour individual can perform a deposit into his particular bank account, request a pharmaceutical prescription, apply for a mortgage, pay bills, do online shopping and more. All it requires a customer to be able to do this is having an account with any of these company s websites. Creating an account is normally a very manageable process where the person provides some information and creates a username and a password to be in a position to return to the website. • 21. Steroid Use in Major League Baseball Essay Steroid Use in Major League Baseball Why Major League Baseball players would use steroids is the biggest question that every person in the world wants to know. I think MLB players use steroids so they can bulk up and get stronger, which will allow them to last through the long, seven month season. I think that because they play 162 games a year during these seven months that this causes a great deal of wear and tear on their bodies. Especially if a player gets hurt, they might try to take illegal medicines, such as steroids, to help them get back on the field quicker, hoping that maybe they could help their team win the pennant. Steroids however, are indeed very dangerous because they mess with the body s hormones. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He broke the record for home runs in a season in 1998. It seemed impossible to break that record at the time, but he did it. Now nobody knows if he was on steroids or not. When he had to come in front of a court recently, and they asked him questions about doing steroids, he said that he could not say not because his lawyer advised him not to and that it might hurt him and his family in the long run. When he did not answer the question, I myself lost respect for him because, to me, that meant he did indeed do steroids. He was the only player that did not answer the question. Sammy Sosa and Rafael Palmerio answered that they did not do steroids. Canseco also said that he not only injected McGwire, but also Jason Giambi. Giambi was the most obvious steroid user, and he actually admitted to doing steroids this year in front of a grand jury. If steroids were allowed in the MLB, there would probably be all kinds of new records, but this would not accomplish much because they were broken with the help of steroids. Their shows today are a way to express themselves and make people question what they know about gender and sexuality. Rupp and Taylor in their book, Drag Queens at the 801 Cabaret discuss this subject in detail, calling their performances a form of protest. They question the roles that society has put them into, and in turn provoke their audiences to question these things, such as gender and sexuality. This type of social protest is called subversion. Through this book, we can more specifically look at two types of subversion that played a major role in the 801 drag queen s performances. The first, and most obvious, is the idea of masculinity versus femininity, and how the Queens use different techniques to break free from the traditional way of thinking about these concepts. The second is the overt way that the Queens portray sex and sexuality, in ways that are impossible for the audience to ignore. Both these types of subversion have an overarching theme of crossing boundaries, whether over the division of the gender binary, or the limits of what is socially acceptable to talk about regarding sex. Drag queens envelop the audience and take many of them out of their comfort zone. What it means to be feminine and masculine in our society has been drilled into each and every one of us since birth. However, there are many similarities within the different cultures creation myths that I looked at. These similarities are called motifs. Motifs are patterns you recognize within an idea. In my opinion, three of the most common creation myth motifs are; humans being created from organic materials, having one creator and no shared power, and the purpose for humans on the earth. Humans being created from organic materials Looking back at all the creation myths I read about and researched, I believe this is the most common motif. In my opinion, many cultures had to use organic materials to create humans because there was just simply nothing else. There either was a god or goddess, and an earth. The creators did not have much to work with and it took multiple tries most of the time, but each culture did find a way to create some type of human being. The Greeks did not give too much information on to why or how they made this happen, but we do know humans originally came from dirt. The Hebrews and Christians started creating humans from dust, clay, and dirt. God first used these organic materials to create Adam. The Babylonians used demons bones from the dead. Why does Leopold believe that a land ethic is both an evolutionary possibility and an ecological necessity? Evolutionary possibility: an evolution of the moral code. Now including non humans. First ethic: between individuals. Leopald believes that the land ethic is both an evolutionary possibility and an ecological necessity because throughout the course of philosophy, there has been an evolution from first ethics which dealt with relation between individuals (p238) to a land ethic which now focuses on the relation between humans and non human, morally considerable beings. This transition has been an evolution of sorts and has allowed, for some people, to broaden the view of life, ethics, and how one approaches different scenarios that involve multiple morally considerable beings. • 39. The Human Rights Of A Kangaroo Than A Police Car Essay In Southern Hills, one would better spend their time searching for a kangaroo than a police car. In conjunction with the majority of white suburban neighborhoods, crime was virtually non existent, facilities well maintained, and school children always had a full lunch bag. In simple terms, life was good. Living in such a community meant I never felt as though my basic human rights were ever being violated because of my skin, gender, or religion. The extent of my knowledge regarding human rights, while limited, derives from my concessions nature, that I acquired from typical Southern Hills schooling. Being fortunate enough to have been born in a community safe from world atrocities has allowed me to view the world in a much broader sense while simultaneously providing me the understanding of how anyone, regardless of upbringing, can begin to change such daunting issues. Two blocks from my house was Slavens k 8, one of the fastest growing and top rated schools in all of Colorado. For 10 years, I was the beneficiary of an exemplary teaching and an overwhelmingly caring environment. However, Slavens did lack one fundamental aspect of a continually expanding world: an utter lack of diversity. For proper prospective, the 90 s show Friends was worlds more diverse than Slavens. Such is a crucial reasoning behind my initial views on human rights. As far as I could tell, not only was the entire world Caucasian, human rights were guaranteed, their ability to be harmed was never in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. The Importance Of Public Education Since the beginning of public education, the responsibility of schools falls to the states. Through the eighteenth century, public education was only for the wealthy due to the belief that poor children were not worthy of being educated. In 1852, however then secretary of state of Massachusetts Horace Mann urged that states be obliged to offer public education to all children. The revolutionary idea behind this plea was that all individuals could and should be educated irrespective of economic class (School Discipline History). During the mid nineteenth century, European models were being studied to suggest kindness and encouragement towards students rather than corporal punishment. By 1910, it was mandatory for all children to attend school. Teachers noticed an increase in absences, most likely due to parental direction, which led the teachers role to become parental disciplinarians; teachers functioned in loco parentis, meaning in the place of parents (School Discipline History). Good discipline was shown as students sitting quietly as lessons were being taught from teacher to students. After World War II, Dr. Benjamin Spock criticized these harsh techniques and encouraged parents and teachers to be affectionate and flexible. Critics however would claim that Spock s theories would lead children to become selfish, lazy, and unresponsive. In the end of the twentieth century, healthcare professionals and educators became more informed about how student misbehavior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The concept of sustainable development can be traced to the energy (especially fossil oil) crisis and the environment pollution concern in the 1970s. The green building movement originated from the need and desire for more energy efficient and environmentally friendly construction practices. There are a number of motives to building green, including environmental, economic, and social benefits. However, modern sustainability initiatives call for an integrated and synergistic design to both new construction and in the retrofitting of an existing structure. Also known as sustainable design, this approach integrates the building life cycle with each green practice employed with a design purpose to create a synergy amongst the practices used. Green building brings together a vast array of practices and techniques to reduce and ultimately eliminate the impacts of buildings on the environment and human health. It often emphasizes taking advantage of renewable resources, e.g., using sunlight through passive solar, active solar, and photovoltaic techniques and using plants and trees through green roofs, rain gardens, and for reduction of rainwater run off.
