The Problem with Teenage Childbearing in the United States
Teenage childbearing is serious social problem in the United States. The rates of teen parenting are at
is lowest, but the numbers still remain an issue. Teen parenting has been associated with negative
outcomes for the parents and their children. Many teenage parents and their families are unaware of
the disparities when becoming a teen parent. With outcomes of teen childbearing being identified, teen
pregnancy prevention needs to be further addressed. Addressing teen pregnancy and methods of
prevention will help strengthen families and promote healthy development in the future. Evidence
based teen pregnancy programs, parent involvement, and community involvement need to be
implemented to help decrease teen pregnancies and rates and sexual risk behaviors; a comprehensive
approach would be the most beneficial for youth.
Over the last two decades teen birth rates have declined, however the rates of teen births remain to be
higher in the United States than any other developed county. Teen birth rate is the number of births per
1,000 mother s ages 15 to 19 years old. Teen parenting has been associated with many negative
outcomes for teen parents and their children. Low rates of maternal education, low incomes, single
parenthood, and subsequent births are some of the negative outcomes for teen parents. Children of
teen parents also have negative outcomes associated with poor school performance, higher risks of
child maltreatment, higher incarceration rates, and an

The Kite Runner And Lord Of The Flies Literary Analysis
Loss of innocence in Amir and Ralph What would it be like if your best friend/acquaintance did not
stand up for you when you were in trouble? This question is great for how the two protagonists Amir
and Ralph lose their innocence after their closest relationship dies. The Kite Runner by Khaled
Hosseini and Lord of The Flies by William Golding can be associated with one another in many ways.
The first way that they are similar is the loss of innocence that is evident in each novel. Both Amir and
Ralph experience a loss of innocence because of events that take place throughout the novel. This loss
of innocence change Amir and Ralph in positive and negative ways. Some ways the two novels can be
compared with regards to loss of innocence is firstly, how a death of a friend affects them, secondly,
how Ralph and Amir deal with it and finally how they mature after their friends deaths. Regarding loss
of innocence, a friend s death affected Amir and Ralph in similar ways, such as how they matured
from it. An example is evident in The Kite Runner Why are you here? , For the boy , when Amir
decides he wants to adopt Sohrab (Hosseini 267). It is evident in Lord of the Flies, the tears began to
flow and Ralph was sobbing , when Golding tries to depict Ralph growing into a man as he matures
through the book and after Piggy s death, acknowledging Piggy s intellect (Golding 202). Another
way, a way they affected each other similarly is when Amir and Ralph feel remorse and grief to their
dead friends. They both act like this in the book because they know they could have prevented it. In
contrast, regarding the loss of innocence, a friend s death affected Amir and Ralph in different ways.
One way they affected Amir is that he felt guilty and Ralph did not feel as guilty. This is evident
because Amir lost his innocence after watching Hassan get raped when he clearly could have
prevented it, I watched his face, but I didn t do anything. (Hosseini 76). Another way Amir is different
from Ralph is that Amir seeks redemption and Ralph seeks salvation, an example of Ralph s disparity
is when the savages are about to kill him and Ralph is frightened

Jeremiah Johnson Essay examples
Jeremiah Johnson
In this movie, one may observe the different attitudes that Americans had towards Indians. The
Indians were those unconquered people to the west and the almighty brave, Mountain Man went there,
forgetting all the troubles he knew, and away from civilization. The mountain man is going in search
of adventure but as this adventure starts he finds that his survival skills are not helping him since he
cant even fish and as he is seen by an Indian, who watches him at his attempt to fish, he start
respecting them. The view that civilization had given him of the west changes and so does he.
Civilization soon becomes just something that exists down there. The movie starts by showing the
Indians as bad when Johnson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soon he learns from bear claw that there are different type of Indians some which you should never
even think of fighting and some that had never hurt a white man before. More than to be respectful the
mountain men submit to the Indians out of fear.
Johnson accommodates to the environment and learns to coexist with the Indians.
Jeremiah is given a wife forcefully and as much as he does not want it he soon realizes he has
everything he needs to just settle. Like in every good movie, just when you have all it is take away.
The real trouble with the tribes comes when white men intervene and intrude. The Indians expect that
these Americans respect their territory and whatever rituals and beliefs they may have but just as
Johnson was unaware of this when he first came so where the white men that came to save the
Christian families. Civilization never would approve or respect many of the things that Jeremiah had
learned to appreciate and even love. The view of all white men was best said by the bald guy when he
referred to the Flathead leader, He may speak well and read the bible but he is still an injun. The
Mountain Man is very romanticized in the movie. The Actor that was chosen for the part for example
was Robert Redford the typical American hero, Blond, handsome, strong and able to survive in the
wild, what else can you ask for? What really does it is the song at the beginning of the movie, which is

Euphemism Treadmill Cycle
Political correct language limits the use of offensive terms that promote conscious thinking about how
people stereotype one another. Politically incorrect language is demanding to many racial groups such
as Native Americans who are mocked through the Washington Redskins . Those with special needs
have also been affected by politically incorrectness because they feel out of place when being referred
to as mentally retarded. This process is called the Euphemism Treadmill cycle. Euphemism Treadmill
is a process that describes the cycle of discarded dysphemisms, used as a word replacement strategy .
In order for America to stay the greatest nation we must eliminate political incorrectness in our
everyday society. Political incorrect language lies within the National Football League, Washington
Redskins . The Washington s Redskins football cap has a picture of a big nosed, buck toothed redskin
caricature just above the brim Jack Shakely stated, about her first time going to a Redskins game. The
hat was an emotional mock to the Native American culture. Jack Shakely asked the question In 21st
century America, to name a sports team after an African American, Asian or any other ethnic group is
unthinkable. So why are Native Americans still fair game? Eliminating the stereotyping in general
with political correctness would solve the issue of racial discrimination in ... Show more content on

This cycle has three steps starting with the form of a new word: Euphemism a polite expression then
the next step to Neutral expression and then to Dysphemism: Nasty expression (Roswell, pg. 283).
The Euphemism Treadmill Cycle shows how terms go through a cycle of becoming a good term thats
used, to a polite expression, then to a neutral expression and then a nasty expression. This cycle
eliminates some of political incorrectness to define new terms instead of suing demanding ones such

Galtung Model Of Conflict
Framework Models
We begn by offering a simplified model of johan Galtungs seminal thinking on the relationship
between conflict violence and peace.
Galtung s models of conflict ,violence and peace
İn the late 1960s Johan Galtung proposed an influential model pf conflict that encompasses both
symmetric conflicts he suggested that conflict could be viewed as triangle with contradiction Attitude
and behaviour at its vertices. Here the contradiction refers to the underliyng conflict sitution which
includes the actual or perceieved incompatibility of goals between the conflict parties generated by

contradiction is defined by the parties their interest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second we would do well to heed Singer advice that a classificatory system should remain as
atheorical as possible lest by accepting conventiaonal labels of certain armed conflicts we buy into
simplistic interpretations, ultimately embrace disastrous reactions and responses we will succeded in
finding a typology which is logically exhaustive mutually exclusive operationally and substantively
comparable.
These two types of conflict again coincide quite closely with our revolution and identity conflict
except that interstate conflict and non interstate conflict are conflated in the uppsala typology under
the heading territory conflict .
Finally we are also tempted to distinguish revolution and identity conflicts in turn from a third class of
of non interstate conflict factional conflict in which the fightingin is not about revolutionary
ideological or identity issues but about the competing interest or power struggles of political or
criminal factions.

How Successfully Did the National Government Deal with the...
How successfully did the National Government deal with the economic problems of the 1930s? In
dealing with the economic depression of the 1930s, it is my opinion that the recovery of Britain was
mainly due to the stages of rearmament in the run up to the Second World War. This is not to say,
however, that the National Government failed to combat the rises in unemployment, reaching a peak
of three million, and the ruined staple industries, they implemented several policies to reboot the
economy and lessen the impact on the people. The National Government were successful in some
aspects of softening the blow in Britain. Faced with a steep decline in international trade the; partly
due to America s protectionist tariffs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the most direct (and somewhat vague) policy The Special Areas Act of 1934, money was to be
applied to the worst affected areas, but this was dependent on their income and the result was many of
the poorest people did not apply. Furthermore, the budget for the act was only £2 million. These
policies seem to suggest that the National Government was somewhat lost on the right course of
action to take, and even then their commitment to not worsen the deficit limited them to gimmicks or
simple lack of effectiveness. They were hardly helped with the condition that Britain now found itself
in. Unemployment figures reached new peaks with the largest being in Wales where 33% of men now
found themselves without work. The traditional industries, of coal, cotton, iron, steel and shipbuilding,
known collectively as the staple industries were the hardest hit; The coal pits of north Wales were
finding themselves without contracts, and the shipyards in Jarrow, near Newcastle were so bad that the
men announced a march to London, taking several weeks. It accomplished very little but to show just
how bad the north of England had been hit. The south meanwhile suffered heavily from cyclical
unemployment, wherein the employee would latch onto short term work, finish the contract and
become unemployed and then find something else. But even then, the unemployment level for the
South east never fell below 15% during the 1930s, in stark

Mein Kampf Analysis
Adolf Hitler s book Mein Kampf or also known as My Struggle that was published sometime between
1925 and 1927 clearly describes his political viewpoints, moreso on race . His story supposedly is
directed on his development of his ideas and the Natzi movement with a mixture of half truths, big
lies, scurrilous attacks, and idealistic emotional appeals. Specifically, Hitler highlights the importance
of race and explains the struggles occurring in Western Europe at the time. Hitler completely rejects
the idea of Marxism and Communism, and opposes the belief that the Bourgeoisie are oppressors , as
Marx had claimed. Alternatively, Hitler emphasizes on the categorization of people by their race,
accentuating the idea that certain physical attributes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hitler states, It is idle to argue which race or races were the original representative of human culture
and hence the real founders of all that we sum up under the word humanity (Hitler 605). According to
himself, the top is a Germanic man with light skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes, known as Aryan. He is
stated as the founder of all higher humanity and represents the prototype of all that we understand by
the word man . Hitler disapproved of Marxism because it disregards the idea of nationalism and the
importance of race. Through Hitler s eye, Marxism basically handed the world over to the Jews, in
which the Jews would have much control over Europe. In addition, he felt as though Marxism would
give the Jews power in order to enslave and destroy people that are not Jewish. Jews contaminated
aspects of culture such as art, literature, and theater and they convert these significant elements of
society into their own beliefs. Overall, the Jews wanted to eliminate all others and control the
Germans for their own gain. It was the battle for world domination; racially, culturally, and politically
between the Aryans and the Jews. Hitler wanted to keep the Jews and Aryan separate because he felt
as though the Jews were truly evil people and should be eliminated and the Aryans should be kept
pure. Mixing between races would lower the quality of the higher race and would cause regression of

Analysis Of My Mother, The Crazy African By Chimamanda...
Chimamanda Adichie is an author from Nigeria, a major country in Africa. She is an exceedingly well
known author from her writings on immigration, feminism, and the African experience in America.
She has given a variety of Ted talks, speeches, and has done interviews on immigration, feminism, and
the African experience in America. In her writings, most noticeably My Mother, the Crazy African,
she talks about the experience of immigrants in America and through a lens which relates to issues one
from all walks of life can understand. Her book shows a growing divide between the understanding of
American Culture and other cultures from around the world, in this book, most specifically Nigeria in
this case. The analysis in this essay will take place through examining similar work as well as her
interviews and speeches. My Mother, the Crazy African is a story about a Nigerian girl named
Ralindu, and her struggles to assimilate in America. She moves to Philadelphia and lives there for
three years. Her mother has a hard time getting used to America, and this causes a growing rift
between her and her daughter. This rift, and how they each subsequently deal, is the main conflict in
this story. Ralindu wishes to be more like the typical American; she prefers more American food, has
an American nickname Lin, has a more Caucasian group of friends, and refuses to speak her native
language of Igbo (Adichie, 53 69). This is a common trend among children who immigrate to the U.S.

In the article Baseball Magic by George Gmelch, the author uses the sport of baseball as a means of
portraying different aspects of culture. The three aspects of baseball that are discussed are rituals,

specific aspects of culture. There are religious, social, and political ties to all three. In examining the
rituals, taboos, and fetishes of baseball, cultural ties can be made and one can begin to understand the

It is totally irrational to think that your mother s back will break if you walk on the cracks in the
pavement. However, I was watching people walk through the mall the other day, and it s amazing how
many people will space their steps to avoid all the cracks on the tile floor. Taboos can be social,
religious, and political in nature as well. A social taboo, regardless of which culture you refer to, is
murder. Murder is frowned upon regardless of culture, race, or creed. Political and religious taboos
can ofter be connected, depending on the culture. Often times, breaking these taboos can help to
advance a culture or a group of people past an issue. In an article posted on the BBC website by Mark
Simpson, titled Ronan Kerr killing: political taboos broken , he speaks about the death of a police
officer, and how it has brought together people of different political and religious backgrounds. A
protestant minister attended a Catholic service for the fallen officer, even though it was frowned upon
by his own faith. The political aspects of unity and standing up for what is right, far outweighed the
backlash from his own faith. By breaking this taboo among many of his own faith, he began to
politically unite the country and move ahead in their thinking, and move toward a time of less
violence, and peace in the nation. The third aspect of society that is discussed by Gmelch, in his article

The House on Mango Street
When I grow up, I want to be a black gum tree. Black gum trees are known for their internal strength.
Instead of dwelling on outward beauty, they spend more time focusing on their inner growth and
developing their core. Only after they have achieved this goal can they produce beautiful fruits that
draw animals near to them. Any surfaces that the berries touch are stained as to say, I was here and
made a permanent difference. After they have utilized their outward influences, they use their internal
scars and hollow places to protect the animals surrounding around it. If human lives were to reflect the
concepts of the black gum tree, governments, individuals, and communities would be radically
transformed. While this is a beautiful image, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now the slab can be seen as a secondary result deriving from the poor condition of the roots. The
roots of the trees act as a metaphor for the community on Mango Street, which supports Esperanza s
development. Because the roots of the community on Mango Street are tangled in cycles of tragic
abuse, Esperanza is deprived of the essential social and ethical requirements she needs to grow. When
Esperanza explains that the trees send ferocious roots beneath the ground , she is implying that the
trees are trying to dig deeper in order to find an essential element for their growth (Cisneros 74). New
visitors to her neighborhood roll their windows up tightly, which shows it is not an environment that
allows children to develop properly (Cisneros 28). Because of the deficit her community is causing
her, she is unable to grow to her full potential, and resorts to digging deeper within herself just as the
roots of the trees do. A problem arises when trees try to do this because the roots are more susceptible
to disease. Keeping with the metaphor, Esperanza shows symptoms similar to a tree that has attracted
the heart rot disease. This disease is characterized by external problems seeping through the roots,
which lead to the decay of the heartwood of a tree, and eventually its overall health. Esperanza is
obviously being fed infectious ideas from her misshapen community, and has begun to let it eat away
at her heart. This cycle is started by the roots

The Movie Zombies By Issac Marion
Love, romance, and comedies have always been a success in whether it be books or movies. These are
genres that throughout centuries have succeeded in standing the tests of time. The author Issac Marion
took on this genre with an undead twist. Marion published a book about a zombie, R, and his
perspective of the now post apocalyptic world. As the story progresses, the audience sees what zombie
life is, R s experience of love, and the war between the living and the undead. Three years after
publishing the book, Jonathan Levine created the movie adaptation. Zombies, at the time of the movie

book s agents into more teen relatable characters to make the movie relatable and more of a success.
Originally the book suggests R s character as a business type man. Marion described him as wearing
black dress pants, gray button up, and a tie which gives him more of a mid to late twenties age
range(Rawden). In the book, R has children and a marriage which would also cause for little to no

younger movie audiences to relate more, connect more, and ultimately causing them to have more
interest in the movie. The filmmakers of the movie also chose to pick very young looking actors to
emphasize this teen romance theme in the movie. In contrast, they chose R s best friend, an older
looking actor, to contrast these film s young leading stars. If

Same Day Cancellations Essay
Cancellation of same day surgeries on the day of surgery in Australian hospitals was a major issue.
The cancellations of the same day surgeries was not a good use of operating rooms, time and staff. Not
only are cancellations a waste of hospital resources and staff, it is a significant inconvenience to
patients and their families. The cancellations were such a problem it made the headlines of the Sydney
Morning Herald. The Herald obtained data from the public records of The New South Wales Health

The biggest problem the Australian Hospital faced was a lack of beds despite the federal government s
$600 million elective surgery blitz in 2009 and 2010 (Wallace, 2011). The NSW planned an additional
400 beds, which still would not be adequate for the estimated 9,000 patients that would have their
surgeries canceled. According to Owler, It comes down to beds ... we do need to have a certain
number of beds, particularly in places like Westmead and Nepean, where demand is high. It s unusual
for us to cancel patients because we ve run out of time. Another 1450 beds were needed to address the
problem (Wallace, 2011). While adding more beds would help it will not solve the cancellation
problems unless the other major factors were addressed.
The data from the surgery dashboard showed the only time the benchmark for same day cancellations
was met was when it was set at 5 % in early 2007 (Wallace, 2011). The benchmark was changed to 2
% in March 2007. Deputy Smyth was satisfied with a 4 5% rate because all the other Australian
hospitals performed at that rate. Concerning, the benchmark, I think complacency contributed more to
the health system not reaching their goal than bias. Perhaps, the deputy needed a better understanding
of benchmarking. The goal of benchmarking is not

The Goblin Market By Christina Rossetti
A woman in the Victorian era was good for few things marriage being of the upmost importance.
When married, a woman needed to pure of sexual experiences and desires, for only men had sexual
needs to be fulfilled. If a woman were ruined, or not a virgin, she was unmarriageable. Few outlets
were available unmarried women to survive, and many of them turned to prostitution. We shall see the
image of a ruined woman presented by Christina Rossetti in The Goblin Market, and find the
conflicting images of a prostitute in D. G. Rossetti s Jenny and Thomas Hardy s The Ruined Maid.
Christina Rossetti s The Goblin Market is a poem that explores through heavy metaphors a woman s
place and action in society, whether she is fallen or not. The Goblin Market focuses on two sisters,
Laura and Lizzie, and their experience with the goblins that attempt to sell the girls their fruit. Laura,
rather curious than afraid of them, gives into their pitch and devours the goblins fruit an act that over a

Jonah
Jonah is one of the most interesting stories in the Old Testament. In this paper, I will summarize the
story of Jonah, and determine if this story is literal or not. Towards the end of this paper, I will give
my final thoughts about Jonah. According to chapter one, the Lord spoke to Jonah and instructed him
to preach in the city of Nineveh. Jonah did not want to go Nineveh so he decided that he wanted to run
away from God. While Jonah was on his way to Tarshish, God sent a great wind on the sea and it
threatened the safety of the passengers on the ship. Out of desperation, the sailors on the ship cried out
to their gods, and they threw the cargo off the ship in an effort to stop the ship from sinking. During all
of this distress, Jonah had gone below the deck, and he fell asleep. When the captain discovered Jonah
below the deck, he criticized Jonah for not calling on his god. In Jonah s response, he stated that the
Lord made the sea and the dry land. Jonah s statement frightened the ship s crew, and they realized
that God created the storm to punish Jonah for disobeying him. The bible tells the readers that Jonah
told the crew that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, Jonah and the Giant Fish is one of the most unbelievable stories in the bible due to the fact
that it is impossible for a man to survive in the belly of fish. The bible is filled with allegories and the
story of Jonah is one of those allegories. Although the story of Jonah is fictional, the meaning of the
story is still relevant, even in this decade. Jonah was a very, judgmental person, and he almost allowed
his judgments to stop him from doing the will of the Lord. There are a lot of people who act like Jonah
and it s actually sad. Religion is supposed to be a good thing, but some people use it to judge others.
The story of Jonah teaches the readers that it is important to humble yourself and help others, whether

The Death Tax and the Death of Family Farms Essay
Relief from high inheritance taxes expires at the end of December, 2012. In the article A Storm of
Estate Taxes Threatens Farm Country, Lynne Finnerty says that the new estate tax exemption will drop
to one million dollars and the tax rate will increase to fifty five percent (Finnerty). Lowering the estate
tax exemption while increasing the rate may consequently cause the liquidation of many
multigenerational family farms and an ultimate decrease in the world s food supply. Comprehending
the effect of estate taxes on farm families requires a general understanding of farm economics. In
Illinois, for example, there are 76,000 farms and more than 28 million acres of farm land. Therefore,
the average farm size is 368 acres, including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Kill the Death Tax, the author states, The estate tax falls hardest on those who maintain a family
business or farm. When the cost exceeds cash assets, the estate tax can force family business owners
and farmers to sell in order to pay the tax ( Kill the Death Tax ). Unfortunately, there are journalists
and politicians who attempt to convince the American public that this problem does not exist. Senator
Bernie Sanders writes in Tax Code Must Stop Coddling the Rich, Some Republicans argue that
eliminating the estate tax would save family farms and small businesses. Not true, though this
argument has been tried before (Sanders). A simple analysis of farm economics proves that Senator
Sanders is misleading the American public. In 2012, a 368 acre farm inheritance in Illinois would
create an estate tax bill of $623,920. The same farm planted to corn, has the potential to generate an
income of $17,664, which is obviously not enough cash to pay the tax. Therefore, the only solution
may be to sell part of the farm ground in order to pay the tax, which could hinder the viability of the
farming operation. In addition to bankrupting family farms, the mere existence of the death tax is
unfair. Assets that are liable to estate taxes involve money that is being taxed for the second and
sometimes third times. It taxes assets which have already been subject to the federal payroll, income
and/or capital gains

Magnet School Essay
Magnet School Group Analysis
1. How well did your team balance the four group personalities? Which personalities were present in
your group? Specifics?
My group consisted of me my, my friend, and my roommate. We were able to balance personalities
fairly well. This may be due to the fact of having arguments about various topics before. My
roommate would be a communicator facilitator. He has been homeless in his lifetime this caused him
to be sympathetic to students with personality and social issues. My friend would be a collaborative
inventor. He understood the big picture of choosing the students with the absolute best chance of being
successful at this school. He also did a lot of listening before actually speaking. My analytical ... Show

4. What methods for reaching consensus did the team use? Specifics?
We all took time to read each students case and formulate our own opinions and ideas before bringing
them before the group. Each group was giving all the time they needed to prepare there discussions.
We were able to reach consensus by listening to the opinions and feels and arguments of all other
group members. We actively listened to each other point of view. After each group member spoke we
discussed the reasons behind their answers.
5. Draw a pie graph or create a chart indicating the approximate amount of talking time for each
member.
6. Indicate which candidates your group accepted and explain your criteria for acceptance. Provide
specifics from unit lessons be sure to show your understanding of the unit material by providing
examples from the group in your discussion.
After discussing the topics were able to come to a consensus to allow students 1, 3, and 6 into the
school. We were able to agree on the fact that the students with the highest chance of success should
be allowed into the school. This would be based on the student s track record and whether they
possess positive mental and social state of mind. We agreed that well rounded students who were
already self determined stood a good chance of maximizing their potential in the school. My
roommate originally wanted to accept students with social issues. Eventually we all came to the

Examine some of the key principles of the argument for the existence of God based upon religious
experiences
Religious experiences are experiences we have of the divine or God. These experiences may be
Mystical experiences, conversion experiences or revelatory experiences. Paul Tillich states that
religious experience is a feeling of ultimate concern , a feeling that demands a decisive decision from
the one receiving it. He describes it as an encounter followed by a special understanding of its
religious significance.
The argument for religious experiences is based on 3 premises. Premise one states that the experience
of X indicates the reality of X. One problem with this premise is that the experience of X does not
always indicate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problems with premise three can also be highlighted by looking at the religious experience of
Mosses when he saw God in the burning bush. When God came to him, Mosses had just killed a man
and run away into the desert. Therefore he could be experiencing extreme guilt which could cause him
to have an illusion. Also if he is in the desert then he was most likely dehydrated which again could
cause an illusion. Therefore other factors may be used to explain religious experiences.
Another example to support premise three, and one that addresses the problem of the subjective nature
of religious experiences, is corporate religious experiences. This is when large numbers of people all
have the same religious experience at the same time. The fact that they are experienced by many leads
to the fact that they can be objectively tested and the accounts validated adding further support for the
argument.
Those that argue that religious experiences are proof of the existence of God usually argue inductively.
This means that they look at the subjective testimonies of individuals who claim to have had religious
experiences in order to find similar characteristics and then draw the general conclusion that the
experiences can only be explained in terms of the existence of God. For example Swinburne argued
inductively supporting

Joseph Plumb Martin Essay
Joseph Plumb Martin was born upon the twenty first of November, in the year of 1760 (Martin 6). His
grandparents raised him on their Connecticut farm. Inspired by the Battles of Lexington and Concord
he decided to enlist into the army. He was eager to help for the patriotic cause. In June of 1776, at the
age of 15, Martin was able to enlist but didn t want to sign up for a long enlistment. Soldiers at the
time were enlisting for a year s service but he did not like that and thought it was too long a time for

He goes on to explain the living conditions he had to endure and his lack of sleep. It was utterly
impossible to lie down and to get any rest or sleep on account of the mud Martin recalls, and can say
in sincerity that I never lay down to sleep a minute in all that time (Martin 77). The fighting at Fort
Mifflin allowed Washington and his troops to withdraw to winter quarters at Valley Forge. It was too
late in the season for the British to follow them.
After arriving at Valley Forge Martin and his fellow soldiers were about to go through the famously
long cold winter that awaited them. Martin wrote, Our prospect was indeed dreary. In our miserable
condition, to go into the wild woods and build us habitations to stay (not to live) in, in such a weak,
starved and naked condition, was appalling in the highest degree (Martin 89). He talks about lying
there two nights and one day, and had not a morsel of any thing to eat all the time (Martin 90).
Martin describes the travel and the toll it took on men. I had now to travel the rest of the day, after
marching all the day and night before and fighting all the morning. I had eaten nothing since the noon
of the preceding day, nor did I eat a morsel til the forenoon of the next day, and I needed rest as much

The Life And Accomplishments Of Walt Disney
Walter Elias Disney was always seen as a very imaginative and outgoing person at any point in his
life. Walt loved life and would make appearances at Disneyland all the time to make sure employees

looked up to him. Never in his life would Walt give up on something, which made him very stubborn

from many different cultural backgrounds. He was the fourth boy and fourth oldest child of the family
as Walt had four other siblings; Herbert, Raymond, Roy, and Ruth, respectively. Walt was actually
named after Preacher Walter Parr after Elias and him were close and both mutually agreed to name

Technology in Ancient Rome and Egypt
Technology application of antiquity was so advanced in some areas that only in the last several
centuries has modern technology overtaken what existed several millennia ago . The massive building
projects of the Giza Plateau and throughout Egypt required heavy lifting and precision surveying
technology that did not exist even 100 years ago . The military equipment of ancient Rome, such as
artillery machinery, was still state of the art 200 years ago . Neither Rome nor Egypt invented much
new technology , but rather applied existing technology in new ways. Application of technology

Romans solved this by applying Persian aqueduct technology . Technology spread throughout the
military, right down to simple but highly effective Celtic sourced chainmail body armor that protected
the lowly foot soldier. Rome s military technology allowed the empire to grow and sustain. The rise of
Rome was accomplished through military means, where ...each new conquest became vulnerable and
led to further expansion. This objective was first above anything else. Without the military strength to
establish and spread the empire, no other artistic, architectural, domestic, or other cultural innovation
could take place . This state priority was for survival because without relentless enhancements to labor
resources, military methods, and technology, Rome would fall. In fact, Rome nearly fell, and in 31
BC, Octavian established a military dictatorship, called the Principate . The military campaigns
provided the raw material to make the military even stronger labor and new ideas and technology.
The intellect of newly conquered countries brought with them new ideas and new technology. For
example, even the one technology of glass blowing the Empire invented, no Roman ever invented it,
for it seems to have developed in present day Syria. The pace at which technology was applied in the
military quickened because the new ideas

I rather to be in the middle of the road to decide that American nation is a Christian nation, because
neither the US Constitution nor the Declaration of Independence indicate any of Christianity in it,
even when the founding fathers mentioned the word God specifically, they used an extended metaphor
the Creator , which it has broader meaning than the word God. Of course, there were other religions
beside Christianity which had been practiced. But, it is an obvious that the foundation of the American
nation established on a Christian foundation. However, there are many Christian principles that
established the Declaration of Independence, which we cannot ignore. First, the rights of the people
who live in this nation have the right to resist, and these rights came from the Creator or from God as

We see all of these throughout the poem. The passion is shown when she is comparing their love to

whole world. Their love could not fill oceans. Also in, If ever two were one, then surely we (226). She
needs his love and she can not live without it. The writer thinks they could be one. It is interesting that
a Puritan would write such a love poem. Puritans are supposing to have a relationship with God. I am
surprised that she is writing something with so much emotion in it. On line nine she states, Thy love is
such I can no way repay (226). She means that the love that her husband gives her is passionate and
emotional, that there is no way that she could ever repay him. She wants to share how great her and
her husbands chemistry is and that is endearing, because it is inspiring love. Another tone would be

citizens joined the fray (Ximenez). Nelli Mai, an unemployed 62 year old psychologist said, the poor

Almost immediately, residents of middle class neighborhoods in Buenos Aires went to their windows
and began a noise protest by banging pots and pans, a traditional form of protest throughout Latin
America. Before long, their rage still unsatisfied, protesters spilled into the streets by the thousands
and began marching to the Plaza de Mayo. At the seat of government, known as the Casa Rosada

Largely middle class demonstrators swarmed key landmarks and blocked main thoroughfares across
Buenos Aires. As protesters demanded the resignation of the unpopular de la Rua, police were forced
to clear the peaceful demonstration (Gardner 9). In the Plaza de Mayo, which has seen some of the
bloodiest and most historic moments in Argentina s rocky political past, officers swung batons, fired
rubber bullets and tear gas, and aimed water cannon (see illustration 1) on the throngs of
demonstrators besieging the Casa Rosada.

Mary Of Arc And Amelia Earhart
During the course of history there have not been many warrior women. Helen of Troy, Joan of Arc and

Revenge causes many of the acts of characters in Beowulf. It is a prominent theme throughout the
book. Most of the acts revenge causes are battles between two characters, resulting in a death. These
events include Grendel attacking Heorot, Beowulf killing Grendel, Grendel s mother killing Aschere,
and Beowulf attacking Grendel s mother. Revenge in Beowulf helps provide context for the fighting

Significance of Feet in Plato’s Symposium Essay examples
The Significance of Feet in Plato s Symposium
Plato s Symposium presents an account of the party given at the house of Agathon, where Socrates
and Alcibiades are in attendance. The men at the party take turns eulogizing the god Eros. In Agathon
s eulogy, he describes Eros as a soft and tender being. When Socrates speaks, however, he makes a
correction of his host s account, by saying the soft and tender thing is the beloved, and not the lover,
as Agathon would have it. When Alcibiades enters the party toward the end of the dialogue, he
complains that Socrates is deceiving Agathon. Alcibiades was once the lover of Socrates, and if he
knows anything about his beloved, it is that Socrates is a tough man who can drink without getting ...

Alcibiades recalls: Once, he had gotten a thought, and he stood on the same spot from dawn on,
considering it; and when he made no progress, he did not let up, but stood searching (283).
In these two instances, it is clear that Socrates is the beloved, and the two men admire his self
discipline and uprightness. If standing still is indicative of nobility then fleeing or running away is
naturally indicative of the opposite shame and vulgarity. Alcibiades had a habit of running away
because of the shame that Socrates caused him to feel. When Alcibiades speaks of other encounters
with Socrates he says: I have become a runaway to avoid him and I stopped my ears and took off in
flight, as if from the Sirens, in order that I not sit here in idleness and grow old beside him (279). On
the surface it is clear from this passage that Alcibiades is not the most noble of men, but further
significance is contained in these words with respect to Agathon s eulogy of Eros. In his eulogy he
says: First he is the youngest of the gods...for with headlong flight he avoids old age (256). Alcibiades
likens himself to Agathon s Eros, who, according to Socrates is not the lover, but the beloved.
Alcibiades, as stated previously, is most certainly the lover of Socrates, and this is why, at the end of
his speech (which is not really a eulogy to Eros, but a praise of Socrates) he warns

Tacitus s Influence On The Roman Empire
Tacitus talks about the influence of Agrippina the younger as a sign of weakness of the principate
representing Claudius and Nero as her pawn. Her position of power as a female to this day is
unmatched; known as the granddaughter, daughter, sister, wife, and mother of men. ( Tacitus)
Agrippina, an Imperial woman of the Julio Claudian bloodline a female Caesar lived through all five
of the Julio Claudian emperors Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, and Nero. Agrippina the
younger roles in the empire is recognized but is not credited for the influence she had in shaping the
Roman Empire from the time of Claudius to the beginning of Nero s reign. Tacitus is writing is from
the perspective of an old Roman Senator providing the accounts of Agrippina life in power from a
male point of view. His accounts of her life portray her as a vindictive, scandalous female who has
stepped above her station. (Tacitus) Suetonius another old Roman Senator accounts would agree with
Tacitus in regards to Agrippina s outrageous behavior. However, it can be argued that she was an
emperor while she is not given credit her influence played a huge part in affecting the direction of the
Empire and Roman society especially when it comes to women in a position of power.
Tacitus and Suetonius provide fragments of the history of the Roman Empire through the Julio
Claudian reign. Agrippina the younger bloodline is strong as a descendant of Augustus and Agrippa;
she s connected to all five emperors.

Bacteria in My Yogurt?
Project Design Plan
When you go to the grocery store and pick up a yogurt, some containers stated live, active cultures .
What does live, active cultures mean? Does it mean that there is living bacteria in the yogurt? Isn t
that harmful? Some bacteria can make you sick, but are important because they help your body fight
off the bad bacteria.
Problem Statement: But how do we really now that there are bacteria or microorganisms in our
yogurt? How many colonies of bacteria growth is in yogurts? Does it vary from different flavors?
Literature Review
Over the years, there have been several studies published on the health effect of yogurt and the
bacteria that companies use to produce yogurt. There have been studies done on animals and humans
to investigate the benefits. According to The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the United States
uses lactic acid producing bacteria known as (LAB) which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The design of the yogurt experiment is important in several key ways. One being the specific question
the experiment is supposed to answer. Another type of factor would be any possible bias within the
experiment and during the analysis of data. This experiment did foresee any of the experimental
design issues possible. In order for someone to replicate this experiment it would be important for
them to use all the same tools and brand of the experiment. It would also be important for safe
handling and cleanup and understand the possible variables in temperature and lighting. If other tried
to replicate this experiment it could determine the experiment is valid only if all procedure and
handling were exactly the

  • 2. The Problem with Teenage Childbearing in the United States Teenage childbearing is serious social problem in the United States. The rates of teen parenting are at is lowest, but the numbers still remain an issue. Teen parenting has been associated with negative outcomes for the parents and their children. Many teenage parents and their families are unaware of the disparities when becoming a teen parent. With outcomes of teen childbearing being identified, teen pregnancy prevention needs to be further addressed. Addressing teen pregnancy and methods of prevention will help strengthen families and promote healthy development in the future. Evidence based teen pregnancy programs, parent involvement, and community involvement need to be implemented to help decrease teen pregnancies and rates and sexual risk behaviors; a comprehensive approach would be the most beneficial for youth. Over the last two decades teen birth rates have declined, however the rates of teen births remain to be higher in the United States than any other developed county. Teen birth rate is the number of births per 1,000 mother s ages 15 to 19 years old. Teen parenting has been associated with many negative outcomes for teen parents and their children. Low rates of maternal education, low incomes, single parenthood, and subsequent births are some of the negative outcomes for teen parents. Children of teen parents also have negative outcomes associated with poor school performance, higher risks of child maltreatment, higher incarceration rates, and an ... • 3. The Kite Runner And Lord Of The Flies Literary Analysis Loss of innocence in Amir and Ralph What would it be like if your best friend/acquaintance did not stand up for you when you were in trouble? This question is great for how the two protagonists Amir and Ralph lose their innocence after their closest relationship dies. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and Lord of The Flies by William Golding can be associated with one another in many ways. The first way that they are similar is the loss of innocence that is evident in each novel. Both Amir and Ralph experience a loss of innocence because of events that take place throughout the novel. This loss of innocence change Amir and Ralph in positive and negative ways. Some ways the two novels can be compared with regards to loss of innocence is firstly, how a death of a friend affects them, secondly, how Ralph and Amir deal with it and finally how they mature after their friends deaths. Regarding loss of innocence, a friend s death affected Amir and Ralph in similar ways, such as how they matured from it. An example is evident in The Kite Runner Why are you here? , For the boy , when Amir decides he wants to adopt Sohrab (Hosseini 267). It is evident in Lord of the Flies, the tears began to flow and Ralph was sobbing , when Golding tries to depict Ralph growing into a man as he matures through the book and after Piggy s death, acknowledging Piggy s intellect (Golding 202). Another way, a way they affected each other similarly is when Amir and Ralph feel remorse and grief to their dead friends. They both act like this in the book because they know they could have prevented it. In contrast, regarding the loss of innocence, a friend s death affected Amir and Ralph in different ways. One way they affected Amir is that he felt guilty and Ralph did not feel as guilty. This is evident because Amir lost his innocence after watching Hassan get raped when he clearly could have prevented it, I watched his face, but I didn t do anything. (Hosseini 76). Another way Amir is different from Ralph is that Amir seeks redemption and Ralph seeks salvation, an example of Ralph s disparity is when the savages are about to kill him and Ralph is frightened ... Jeremiah is given a wife forcefully and as much as he does not want it he soon realizes he has everything he needs to just settle. Like in every good movie, just when you have all it is take away. In dealing with the economic depression of the 1930s, it is my opinion that the recovery of Britain was mainly due to the stages of rearmament in the run up to the Second World War. This is not to say, however, that the National Government failed to combat the rises in unemployment, reaching a peak of three million, and the ruined staple industries, they implemented several policies to reboot the economy and lessen the impact on the people. These policies seem to suggest that the National Government was somewhat lost on the right course of action to take, and even then their commitment to not worsen the deficit limited them to gimmicks or simple lack of effectiveness. Because the roots of the community on Mango Street are tangled in cycles of tragic abuse, Esperanza is deprived of the essential social and ethical requirements she needs to grow. When Esperanza explains that the trees send ferocious roots beneath the ground , she is implying that the trees are trying to dig deeper in order to find an essential element for their growth (Cisneros 74). New visitors to her neighborhood roll their windows up tightly, which shows it is not an environment that allows children to develop properly (Cisneros 28). Because of the deficit her community is causing her, she is unable to grow to her full potential, and resorts to digging deeper within herself just as the roots of the trees do. A problem arises when trees try to do this because the roots are more susceptible to disease. Keeping with the metaphor, Esperanza shows symptoms similar to a tree that has attracted the heart rot disease. This disease is characterized by external problems seeping through the roots, which lead to the decay of the heartwood of a tree, and eventually its overall health. While Jonah was on his way to Tarshish, God sent a great wind on the sea and it threatened the safety of the passengers on the ship. Out of desperation, the sailors on the ship cried out to their gods, and they threw the cargo off the ship in an effort to stop the ship from sinking. When the cost exceeds cash assets, the estate tax can force family business owners and farmers to sell in order to pay the tax ( Kill the Death Tax ). Unfortunately, there are journalists and politicians who attempt to convince the American public that this problem does not exist. Senator Bernie Sanders writes in Tax Code Must Stop Coddling the Rich, Some Republicans argue that eliminating the estate tax would save family farms and small businesses. Not true, though this argument has been tried before (Sanders). A simple analysis of farm economics proves that Senator Sanders is misleading the American public. In 2012, a 368 acre farm inheritance in Illinois would create an estate tax bill of $623,920. The same farm planted to corn, has the potential to generate an income of $17,664, which is obviously not enough cash to pay the tax. Therefore, the only solution may be to sell part of the farm ground in order to pay the tax, which could hinder the viability of the farming operation. Examine some of the key principles of the argument for the existence of God based upon religious experiences Religious experiences are experiences we have of the divine or God. These experiences may be Mystical experiences, conversion experiences or revelatory experiences. Paul Tillich states that religious experience is a feeling of ultimate concern , a feeling that demands a decisive decision from the one receiving it. He describes it as an encounter followed by a special understanding of its religious significance. The argument for religious experiences is based on 3 premises. Premise one states that the experience of X indicates the reality of X. One problem with this premise is that the experience of X does not always indicate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problems with premise three can also be highlighted by looking at the religious experience of Mosses when he saw God in the burning bush. When God came to him, Mosses had just killed a man and run away into the desert. Therefore he could be experiencing extreme guilt which could cause him to have an illusion. Also if he is in the desert then he was most likely dehydrated which again could cause an illusion. Therefore other factors may be used to explain religious experiences. Another example to support premise three, and one that addresses the problem of the subjective nature of religious experiences, is corporate religious experiences. This is when large numbers of people all have the same religious experience at the same time. The fact that they are experienced by many leads to the fact that they can be objectively tested and the accounts validated adding further support for the argument. Those that argue that religious experiences are proof of the existence of God usually argue inductively. This means that they look at the subjective testimonies of individuals who claim to have had religious experiences in order to find similar characteristics and then draw the general conclusion that the experiences can only be explained in terms of the existence of God. For example Swinburne argued inductively supporting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fighting at Fort Mifflin allowed Washington and his troops to withdraw to winter quarters at Valley Forge. It was too late in the season for the British to follow them. When Socrates speaks, however, he makes a correction of his host s account, by saying the soft and tender thing is the beloved, and not the lover, as Agathon would have it. In these two instances, it is clear that Socrates is the beloved, and the two men admire his self discipline and uprightness. If standing still is indicative of nobility then fleeing or running away is naturally indicative of the opposite shame and vulgarity. Alcibiades had a habit of running away because of the shame that Socrates caused him to feel. When Alcibiades speaks of other encounters with Socrates he says: I have become a runaway to avoid him and I stopped my ears and took off in flight, as if from the Sirens, in order that I not sit here in idleness and grow old beside him (279). In his eulogy he says: First he is the youngest of the gods...for with headlong flight he avoids old age (256). Alcibiades likens himself to Agathon s Eros, who, according to Socrates is not the lover, but the beloved.
