What Is The Five Forces Of Nestle
The Industry Environment Analysis
Compared with the general environment, the industry environment has a more direct effect on the firm
s strategic competitiveness and to earn above average returns. The intensity of industry competition
and an industry s profit potential are functions of five forces of competition such as the threat of new
entrants, bargaining power of supplier, bargaining of power buyers, threats of substitute products, and
intensity of rivalry among competitors (Hanson, D., Hitt, M., Ireland, R. D., Hoskisson, R. E., 2011,
p.48). Porter s Five Forces Model was created to act as a framework for industry analysis and business
strategy development. Porter singled out five different forces that impact competitive intensity which
portrays an image of the overall attractiveness and profitability of a market. To aid in my evaluation of

There are close substitutes for Nestlé products which allows for the preferences of the customer to be
very influential. Nestlé understands the power of the customer and has taken specific steps to meet the
needs of its products consumers. Specifically, Nestlé is incorporating health and wellness into the
creation of its products as society has started becoming more health conscious.
Threat of Substitute Products
Due to the nature of the industry, Nestlé is afflicted with the threat of substitute goods. Ranging from
ice cream, frozen foods and confectionaries to pet food, there are arrays of similar products that
compete directly with Nestlé. It is vital for Nestlé to continuously find new ways to improve its
products and generate new sources of growth for the company s future expansion because competition
is so violent. In recent years, Nestlé has focused on the health and wellness aspects of its products to
maintain its edge in the market.

Life of Maxamillian Robespierre
Maximilien Robespierre declared at the trial of King Louis XVI. The King must die so that the nation
can live. Robespierre advocated the kings demise and with it the ways of the Ancien Régime.
However, in an ironic twist of fate his words also foreshadowed his own rise and fall as the leader of
the French Revolution. Known as The Incorruptible , or alternately Dictateur Sanguinaire Robespierre
is a monumental figure of the French Revolution, but which was he? Was he the incorruptible
revolutionist fighting to overthrow the Ancien Regime or a raging radical that implemented his own
absolute tendencies under the cover of the revolution? When dissecting the dichotomy of Robespierre
s life and actions during the French Revolution and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another characteristic of Absolutism is that of the subjugation of the church. While previous absolute
rulers either appointed the clergy or became the head of the church Robespierre took a different
direction by forming his own religion. The Cult of the Supreme Being was developed by Robespierre
based on a radical concept of deist beliefs, but with the addition of the quest for virtue and civic duty
as well as emphasizing reason. Robespierre stated that his religion would banish all the ridiculous
phantoms that the ambitions of priest and the politics of kings have commanded us to obey in the
name of heaven. On May 7, 1794 Robespierre introduced the Cult of the Supreme Being to the
National Convention and on June 8 the Festival of the Supreme Being was held to inaugurate the new
state religion. The former catholic state was banned. With the adoption of this new religion the
Catholic Church lost any remaining power they had on a political level, lowering them to a never
before seen powerless in France. Not only did this new radical religion revoke the power of the
Catholic Church, but all that power was imbued into the leader of this new religion, Robespierre
himself. He church wasn t the only body that was reduced to a powerless state during this time, but the
nobility as well.
The subjugation of the nobility is an important trait of

The Postal System During The 19th Century
The postal system played a crucial role in national expansion. It facilitated expansion into the West by
creating an inexpensive, fast, convenient communication system. Letters from early settlers provided
information and boosterism to encourage increased migration to the West, helped scattered families
stay in touch and provide assistance, assisted entrepreneurs in finding business opportunities, and
made possible regular commercial relationships between merchants in the west and wholesalers and
factories back east. The postal service likewise assisted the Army in expanding control over the vast
western territories. The widespread circulation of important newspapers by mail, such as the New
York Weekly Tribune, facilitated coordination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the Post Office expanded, difficulties were experienced due to a lack of employees and
transportation. The Post Office s employees at that time were still subject to the so called spoils
system, where faithful political supporters of the executive branch were appointed to positions in the
post office and other government corporations as a reward for their patronage. These appointees rarely
had prior experience in postal service and mail delivery. This system of political patronage was
replaced in 1883, after passage of the Pendleton Civil Service Reform Act.[19] Ten years before
waterways were declared post roads in 1823, the Post Office used steamboats to carry mail between
post towns where no roads existed.[citation needed] Once it became clear that the postal system in the
United States needed to expand across the entire country, the use of the railroad to transport the mail
was instituted in 1832, on one line in Pennsylvania.[20] All railroads in the United States were
designated as post routes, after passage of the Act of July 7, 1838. Mail service by railroad increased
rapidly thereafter.[21] ~ Benjamin Franklin ~ George Washington ~ The First U.S. Postage Stamps
Issued 1847 The first stamp issues were authorized by an act of Congress and approved on March 3,
1847.[22] The earliest known use of the Franklin 5¢ is July 7, 1847, while the earliest known use of
the Washington 10¢ is July 2, 1847. Remaining in postal

Omelas Utilitarianism
The Omelas behavior is considered moral through utilitarianism. In the textbook, utilitarianism is
defined as the sum of individual pleasures and pains. It is not my pleasures or pains that matter but the
cumulative happiness of a number of people (MacKinnon 93). Under this, it is just for the Omelas to
make one child suffer to maintain the happiness of the society. Utilitarianism is better explained and
supported by the trolley problem, a hypothetical case where you have the power to allow a trolley to
kill five workers or one worker by pulling a switch. According to utilitarianism, you would not only be
permitted, but required to pull the switch, which would result in one death and five lives saved
(MacKinnon 100). By losing one life

The Beta Amasment For Nike Company
What is the beta measurement for Nike Company?
Beta measurement for the Nike Company, is a statistical measure that compares the volatility of a
stock against the volatility of the broader market, which is typically measured by a reference market
index. Since the market is the benchmark, the market s beta is always 1. When a stock has a beta
greater than 1, it means the stock is expected to increase by more than the market in up markets and
decrease more than the market in down markets. Conversely, a stock with a beta lower than 1 is
expected to rise less than the market when the market is moving up , but fall less than the market when
the market is moving down. Despite being rare, a stock may have a negative beta, which means the
stock moves opposite the general market trend (Macro Axis, 2017).
What does this measurement mean?

Factors That Affect Resilience
In my term paper, I would like to talk about Resilience which I believe is a prerequisite for an
effective leader. Life has ups and downs and adversities are inevitable. Things can beyond our control,
it is impossible for us to prevent unpleasant circumstances from happening. Difficulties and problems
come out of nowhere, the stress and anxiety associated with adversity may knock us down if we cope
with them inadequately. Chronic stress can lead to mental collapse if we still cannot manage them
well, which is definitely undesirable for a leader because it can affect the cooperation with others as
well as the team morale.
First of all, I would like to define what resilience is. Major scholars believe it is the process to recover
from trauma, or the ability to respond to adversity. According to Sergeant and Laws Chapman (2012),
resilience refers to the ability to adapt to adverse conditions while maintaining a sense of purpose,
balance, and positive mental and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several factors can contribute to and affect resilience, are as follows:
1) Personal attributes
I believe it is one of the major determinants of resilience. Having personal attributes such as calm,
patience and adventurous will facilitate us to become a more resilient person. We will not become
panic stricken and lose control of ourselves when we encounter adversity. Other positive traits such as
cheerful and optimistic can also conduce to resiliency. It can help us to find positive meanings in our
lives despite adversity. On the contrary, negative traits such as pessimistic, impulsive and emotionally
unstable can affect our resiliency and also our well being.
2) Family cohesion and relationships
It is also a key factor affecting resilience. A positive, supportive and cohesive family relationship can
promote our resiliency. Relatives are the important props to support us when we are experiencing
adversity.
3) External

I have been assigned the task of designing an Active Directory structure for a financial organization
consisting of ten sites throughout the country; with each site have five major departments. Each site
will have its own domain name, with New York, NY being the Forest Root Domain. The five major
departments of the sites are Financial, Sales, Call Center, Information Technology, and Project

Active Directory structure. It covers many of the questions that need to be asked while determining
the design of the structure. https://i technet.sec.s msft.com/dynimg/IC213428.gif (Microsoft, 2016)
Other questions that could be asked are: What is the role of each department? What types of groups
are needed for each department? What types of groups are needed in general? Do they departments
need to communicate with each other, and to what extent? Do the domains need to communicate with
each other, and to what extent? What is the user s job description? What is the security clearance of
the user? Domain and Server Names With the New York, NY office being headquarters and the Forest

Pros And Cons Of Caesarean Section
Caesarean section (CS) was brought in clinical practice as a life saving procedure both for mother and
baby. Caesarean section (CS ) is a surgical intervention which is carried out to assure safety of mother
and child when vaginal delivery is difficult or when the doctors consider that the danger to the mother
and baby would be greater with a vaginal delivery. One of the important indicators of emergency
obstetric care is Caeserean section rate (World Health Organization 2009). Various matters like the
health care inequity pattern of the world: underuse of CS in low income settings, and adequate or even
unnecessary use in middle and high income settings can be observed and followed with use of
Caeserean section rate(1). Caeserean section rate below 5 per cent signifies that substantial proportion
of women do not have access to surgical obstetric care; however a rate higher than 15 per cent
connotes over utilization of the surgical procedure for reasons other than for life saving ones (WHO
1993; WHO 1985). Over the past 3 decades ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

mode of delivery. More concerns are now put on women s satisfaction, particularly the pain during
labour.More research results showed long term complication of urinary and faecal problems related to
vaginal births. This will make more women request caesarean section. Maternal request has been
reported as a significant factor in the rise in caesarean section rate.(7).This target of 15% caesarean
section rate has been commented as an authoritarian approach to health system, newborn outcome ,

Ida B. Wells
Ida B. Wells (1862 1931) was a newspaper editor and journalist who went on to lead the American
anti lynching crusade. Working closely with both African American community leaders and American
suffragists, Wells worked to raise gender issues within the quot;Race Question quot; and race issues
within the quot;Woman Question. quot; Wells was born the daughter of slaves in Holly Springs,
Mississippi, on July 16, 1862. During Reconstruction, she was educated at a Missouri Freedman s

Wells then moved to New York City, where she continued to write editorials and against lynching,
which was at an all time high level in the years after Reconstruction. Joining the staff of The New

men and women of all races. She traveled throughout the U.S. and went to Britain twice to speak
about anti lynching activities.
In 1895 Wells married Ferdinand L. Barnett, a Chicago lawyer, public official, and publisher of the

How Robots Have Impacted Life
Robots are a computer machines that are designed to perform many physical tasks either domestic or
industrial. Robots have severely and positively impacted life and are intended to positively impact
future life. They make it really easy to accomplish tasks and save humans from doing the most
difficult tasks. They have developed to the point where they have revolted against people and are
advancing to take over the world by taking over humans and preventing humans from completing
undesired tasks. They are considered to be more flexible and more adaptable than other automated
systems. This technology is advancing over years and robots are now able to perform many tasks more
quickly, cheaply and accurately than humans. There were many domestic solutions of the use of
robotics in the past when the microwave was invented. In today s present society robotics has created
an automated vacuum cleaner which is an iRobot called Roomba. The use of robotics is emerging
throughout society and is intended to make industrial solutions such as robots used for working and
construction in the future
In history of robotics, an invention was the microwave. This is considered as a domestic robot
machine because of its incorporated features. The microwave consists of many control devices that
allows microwave operators to input their desired amount of time and the food, the microwave then
processes the food so it results in the temperature of heat as desired by the operator. The microwave

Summary Of Dancing At Lughnasa
Dancing at Lughnasa is a play written by Brian Friel first published in 1990. In the play, Friel tells the
story of Ireland as a whole through the story of a family living in Ballybeg, Donegal. The family
consists of five sisters and their brother, as well as Michael. Michael is the son of one of the sisters,
Christina, but more importantly the narrator of the story. The play is set in the summer of 1936. The
first change mentioned in the book is the return of Father Jack. Father Jack is the oldest member of the
Mundy family, a missionary priest, who has spent the last 25 years in Uganda. During his time in
Uganda, he has absorbed the African religion and culture. Jack s return affects greatly the everyday
life of the Mundy sisters as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Kate refuses change. As mentioned before, she cannot accept Father Jack s new beliefs.
This disapproval for change might come from the fact that Kate is afraid of losing control: suddenly
you realize that hair cracks are appearing everywhere; that control is slipping away . That is why she
rarely joins the girls in dancing. She is worried about their futures and even though she is described as
a cold person, she truly cares about her sisters, which we can see when Agnes and Rose decide to
leave, as Kate is described to be inconsolable .
The change in Kate s character is minimal, even when everything around her is changing. As Kate is
laid off from her job as a teacher, the authority structures in the house begin to break down. The girls
start challenging the internal hierarchy of the house. For example, Rose becomes more confident and
starts standing up for herself. She goes to meet Danny Bradley without telling anyone, leaving the

A Successful Analysis Of Data Using Ancova
A successful analysis of data using ANCOVA is dependent on assumptions that relate to the study
design, namely, a continuous dependent variable, a categorical independent variable with two or more
independent groups, a continuous covariate variable, and the need for independence of observation
(Field, 2012). Other assumptions are presented during the course of the SPSS analysis to ensure data
does not violate assumptions, even though there is some leeway for violation of certain assumptions.
For the analysis, time spent stalking after therapy (stalker2) was the dependent variable, the
intervention group (cognitive behavior therapy contrasted with psychodynamic therapy) was the
independent variable, and time spent before therapy (stalker1) was the covariate to control for
incoming behavior. Two study designs are associated with ANCOVA pre post study designs and
condensing the outcome of inappropriate variable, but only after the preliminary assumptions have
been satisfied (Huitema, 2011). The Stalker.sav data was appropriate for measuring the same
dependable variable in two or more unrelated independent groups over two points; hence the pre post
study design. Linearity Assumption There was a linear relationship between the time spent stalking
before therapy (pre) and the time spent stalking after therapy (post) for each intervention type, as
evidenced by the scatterplot below. Testing for Normality From the Tests of Normality table below,

The Impact Of Human Rights Act 1998
Impact and Validity of Human Rights Act 1998: A Critical Analysis
The Human Rights Act 1998 was introduced to bring rights home by the labour party in their general
election manifesto in 1997 whereby conventions from ECHR were incorporated in the UK domestic
law. The act came in full action in October 2000. It was designed to integrate a traditional civil
liberties approach to safeguard effective political democracy , from the strong customs of freedom and
liberty in the United Kingdom.
In my research I shall at first survey at UK s position in the context of ECHR before HRA 1998 was
introduced and then I shall focus on the development of HRA 1998 in the UK. Here the various
articles and sections of HRA 1998 will be discussed in reference with number case laws. Finally I
shall look into the current status of the Act where I ll draw arguments of academics as well as political
parties.
As one of the founding member of the European Council, formed in 1953, United Kingdom was
entitled to incorporate the European Conventions on Human Rights into the state s domestic law.
Undoubtedly, the European Convention on Human Rights (hereafter ECHR) is one of the foremost

Lose weight with mindful eating
Tackle junk food cravings and an expanding waistline with this practice that has
roots in Buddhism
By: Kasmin Fernandes
A growing body of research suggests that a slower, more thoughtful way of eating
could help with weight problems and maybe steer some people away from
processed food and unhealthy choices. Sonam Kapoor and foodie Hollywood actress
Gwyneth Paltrow swear by it for keeping them slim.
Nutritionists have dubbed this alternative approach #39;mindful eating #39;. It is based on
the Buddhist concept of mindfulness, which involves being fully aware of what is

Both active treatments produced declines in binging and depression,
but the mindfulness based therapy seemed to help people enjoy their food more
and have less sense of struggle about controlling their eating.
Practicing mindfulness meditation weakened chocolate cravings among people with
a self declared sweet tooth, Canadian researchers say. There is now good evidence
that mindfulness strategies generally work at managing food cravings, but we don #39;t
yet know what aspect of mindfulness and what mechanisms are responsible for
these effects. This is what motivated this research, said psychologist Julien Lacaille,
who led the study at McGill University in Quebec.
What is mindful eating?
Allowing yourself to become aware of the positive and nurturing opportunities that
are available through food selection and preparation by respecting your own inner
wisdom.
Using all your senses in choosing to eat food that is both satisfying to you and
nourishing to your body.
Acknowledging responses to food (likes, dislikes or neutral) without judgment.

Cone Snail Research Paper
Creature Feature: Cone Snail
A tropical ocean dweller, the cone snail may seem harmless at first glance. Do not be fooled by its
iridescent shell and geometrically patterned exterior the cone snail is hypothesized to have the
potential of killing up to 700 humans with its venom. 1 Not only are its toxins an apt example of
antipredatory defense mechanism, the cone snail also forages with its loaded harpoon, ready to shoot
and kill before enjoying a scrumptious meal.
Based on molecular phylogeny, or genetic data, there are 329 described species of cone snails under
the family Conidae. 2 Compared to the mainly herbivorous land snails, these marine cone snails are
extremely carnivorous. In fact, it is likely that their colorfully decorated shells, ... Show more content

In order to fulfill its carnal hunger, the cone snail performs a deliberate task to munch on its next meal.
Firstly, it surveys the surroundings with its proboscis, a sensory tubular mouth part.
At this moment, the cone snail is actually concealed under mounds of sand so as not to alert its
potential prey. Seeing a possible snack, the cone snail will gently extend its modified radula tooth,
which looks like a harpoon, toward its prey. Though snails are thought to be slow, its harpoon shoots
at lightning speed, contradicting this stereotype. The venom kills most prey almost instantly, and the
cone snail is seen drawing the victim in with its radula tooth. Some cone snails even eat other cone
snails!

Why People Drive In Theaters
Drive in theaters were once a staple throughout the country. Now they are almost non existent. The
entertainment unicorn still has value. It s an important experience that everyone should experience.
Especially millennials that have never been to a drive in theater. New technology often kills off and or
greatly reduces the interest it s predecessor receives .Phone booths and black and white televisions are
no longer commonly used. Millennials can discover the past thanks to the internet. However there is a
big difference between seeing something online and experiencing it in person. The odds of a
millennial experiencing scarce vintage technology is very low. But they can still experience a drive in

George Bernard Shaw, a famous Irish playwright stated that, Those who cannot change their minds
cannot change anything. Having an open mindset includes having the ability to induce and accept

stance on facing challenges, and their willingness to change. In the short stories Through the Tunnel

Fahrenheit 451 Character Analysis
Fahrenheit 451 People can change a lot across the time of their life, in some instances however, people
can change in just a few weeks. Guy Montag, fictional character in Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451, is
a fireman of a dystopian future where books are illegal and are to be burned, but in this story Guy
Montag is the perfect example of change. Some of the things that influenced Montag and changed
with him throughout the story being; some of the people he met, his emotions for his strange wife
Mildred, and his views on fire and books. Guy Montag didn t seem to know that many people, but the
people he did meet changed him quite a lot. That being, when he met Faber at a park one late
afternoon, Montag had little clue that Faber would soon help him become what his own job had fought
against: a book reader. Faber not only changed Montag by trying to give him a better understanding of
books, but by telling Montag how to be smart about the book situation: Watch it I m with you,
remember that. I understand how it happened. I must that your blind raging invigorated me. God, how
young I felt! But now I want you to feel old I want a little of my cowardice to be distilled in you
tonight... (100) Faber tells Montag after he threatens two women who were annoying him by reading a
book. After Montag s outburst, he doesn t vent his anger by threatening people with books that society
agreed to burn. But before Faber was introduced into the story, there was Clarisse, the crazy seventeen
year old from across the street. Clarisse taught Montag, without even meaning to, to slow down and to
not live life like all of society had made it to be: fast paced, non caring, and quite dumbed down. I
sneak around and listen in the subways. Or I listen at soda fountains, and do you know what? What?
People don t talk about anything. Oh they must! No, not anything (28). As Clarisse further explains
that everyone is to caught up on the full wall sized TV s and the jet cars that people would go out with
on weekends and possibly return in a bodybag. Clarisse also showed Montag things you could only
notice if you were to stop and take a good look at such as how the moon appears to have a face, that

Scarlet Fever Dbq
The industrial revolution in the 19th century brought about a huge population exodus from the
countryside into the cities by people seeking work. The massive influx forced the labouring classes to
live in slums, where overcrowding was a key factor and where the spread of diseases such as
diphtheria and scarlet fever were an ever present threat. The small houses could be home for as many
as ten people, all living together in small unventilated rooms. Between the rows of terraced houses
there were open drains and rubbish where children played, and water came from wells that were often
polluted. The poor living conditions, long working hours in the mills, and low pay, all contributed to
the general ill health of the population and the frequent spread of disease. Lowry met such sights

Scarlet fever and diphtheria among many others were two of the most common diseases to effect
children in the early part of the 1900s. Scarlet fever occurred mainly in those between the ages of 2
and 8, and was spread by droplets from carriers and affected individuals. Despite sore throat,
headache, and fever, with red spots in the mouth and on the body, children would often continue to
play with friends in the street and to mix with neighbours, thus allowing the disease to spread.
Diphtheria was likewise highly contagious, generally affecting the throat but occasionally other
mucous membranes and the skin. The principal treatment was isolation. Patients were taken from their
homes and isolated in special fever hospitals for up to six weeks. This allowed time for their own
immune system to fight off the infection and limited the risk of contamination between patients and

Describe The Importance Of Electrolytes
Electrolytes are very important to have in the human body. It is very unhealthy to have an imbalance
of electrolytes. Electrolyte imbalance may lead to disease or even death. ( Nate Morrow )
Salt is a very important electrolyte. Humans need salt to survive on the planet of Earth. Salt can also
be called sodium. Low sodium levels are very dangerous. People with diseases are at higher risk of a
low sodium level.Another important electrolyte is magnesium. Magnesium is important for 300
biochemical reactions! Also an important electrolyte is phosphate. Phosphate strengthens bones and
teeth. Bicarbonate is also one of the major electrolytes. Kidneys release bicarbonate when acids build
up through metabolic processes. Also, potassium is a key electrolyte. Potassium is important for
regulating your heartbeat and muscle function. ( U.S National Library of Medicine ) It is also
important to keep your electrolytes balanced. Electrolyte loss is very dangerous. Water does not
replenish the electrolytes lost in sweat. Most sports drinks claim to replenish electrolytes lost in sweat.
Although, not all beverages are made to hydrate, so be aware on which sports drink you choose next.
Hydration is also crucial to live a healthy life. Dehydration can cause electrolyte imbalance.
Electrolyte imbalance symptoms include twitching, weakness, and seizures. ( Healthline )
It is also important to have a healthy amount of salt in your body. Salt imbalances can lead to heart
disease. Eat healthy to

Digitally Tracking and Monitoring People
We are being digitally tracked and monitored today more than ever before. In Minneapolis, a father
walked into Target and demanded to see the manager. He had discovered that her daughter had been
receiving coupons for baby clothes and cribs, and accused the manager at Target of encouraging his
daughter to get pregnant. A few days later the manager called to apologize, but it was the father who
apologized, as he had found out that his daughter was actually pregnant. Target, with the use of
prediction models, formulas and collected data from the girl s past purchases, knew that the girl was
pregnant before her own father did. Technology today is so advanced that everything we do is
collected by computers and processed.
Today stores have infrared cameras to watch your eyes and what you look at in the store, machines
pour coffee when they sense you yawning, and laser based scanners that can tell what you ate for
breakfast are being developed. These sorts of technologies are developed by companies mostly to
make better business decisions and by governments for surveillance, and are being implemented all
everywhere, including the University of Maryland Campus. The university police are using student s
phones as tools of surveillance for emergencies explained Captain Marc Limansky, former University
Police spokesman.

The Importance Of Aerobic Life On Earth Essay
Introduction:
Aerobic life on earth is only possible thanks to the oxygen produced by the cellular respiration of
plants and other photosynthetic organisms. This crucial service was recently demonstrated in a 2012
study by Martin et al. titled A paradigm of fragile Earth in Priestley s bell jar. The experiment was
based off of Priestley s now famous bell jar experiment where Priestley first placed a mouse in a
sealed jar without plant life, leading to the mouse s eventual asphyxiation, and placed another mouse
in a sealed jar this time with the addition of mint sprigs. This second mouse survived unscathed and in
an effort to replicate this experiment on a large scale Martin et al. s study focused on keeping a healthy
47 year old man in a small, well lit, and sealed greenhouse filled with a variety of plants for 48 hours.
Their experiment was a success and the oxygen content in the greenhouse actually rose from a
deliberately reduced initial concentration of 12.4 % O2 to an 18.1 % concentration more
representative of our atmosphere.
In our study we sought to compare the oxygen output of three different types of photosynthetic
organisms, a strain of pea plant, a lichen, and an Elodea sp. to find which species yielded the most
oxygen per gram of mass. We hope that the information acquired in our study can be used in a similar
way to Martin et al. s study and hope it will be of especial service those seeking to transport or keep
aerobic organisms in confined spaces,

Management Practices And Functions Of Management
Management Practices
Management has played a crucial role in how organizations have operated for over a century. It has
been the foundation of organizations in the structuring of their companies and has determined their
level of success. Without management, organizations would struggle with defining a purpose for
themselves. They would lack in goals to achieve and overall improvement. Since the implementation
of management, theories of management have come and gone. New ideas have emerged and thoughts
have shifted as the world continues to grow and change. However, the concept of management and its
key elements have remained the same. These elements consist of what is known as the five functions

Of the many items that help enhance the horror of the Nazi Holocaust, one of the most notable is what
it had of systematic and bureaucratic. Not only killing people, which would have had already been

leader quoting his favorite poet while sending to death hundreds of people, belying the myth that
culture and education make people better. The Holocaust was primarily an act performed with such

Gangster Rap
Jean Kilbourne, a media specialist, raises an interesting point in one of her lectures when she states,
The average American is exposed to 3000 advertisements per day. Yet, everyone in America still feels
personally exempt from the media. They say, I don t pay attention to ads. I just tune them out. They
have no effect on me. She later states most of the people who have said this to her were wearing
Gap™ tee shirts. Whether people realize it or not, there is a direct correlation between the media and

Because of this, the negative impact on a person s individual identity is large. We imitate practices
displayed in the media, however licentious they may be and this changes our values and our self
image, which changes our individual identity. The collective identity is also impacted because the
media, in this scenario rap, changes our paradigms about the roles people play in a society. This is
done in rap songs with the degrading of women and the encouragement of violence. As outlined here,
media in the form of modern music or rap has a negative effect on a human beings collective and
individual identity.
Next I am going to talk about advertising focused on gender roles as a form of negative media. For
women, the media is always focused on how they look. It constantly degrades women s self esteem by
telling them to be skinny, vulnerable, powerless, and silenced. In addition, the media turns women into
objects or things instead of beings, which encourages violence towards them. This teaches women it is
okay for people to use them. Men are also negatively impacted by the media as they are scrutinized for
having feminine qualities such as compassion, nurturance, cooperation, empathy, sensitivity, and good
communication skills. Men are told they must be violent, brutal, and ruthless, especially towards
women. The media s perspective on what it means

Islam Phobia
Allah Akbar is a phrase in the Arabic language of Islam religion, translating to say,
Allah is great , and a phrase a terrorist would supposedly use before a wide spread explosive
attack seriously injuring or bringing fatality. This phrase is used commonly, for a punch line in a
joke, where a Muslim with characteristics of the Islamic religion, (like their attire, or race) is
humorously labeled as a terrorist. Many Americans are unaware of the origin of term, and of its
true sentiment. Moreover, this misinformation brings about cognitive misers who conclude that
all people middle eastern (Muslim) immigrants have deceivingly violent agendas against

Most Muslims in America are migrants from the Middle East parts of the continent
Africa, such as Iran, where the picture of violent terrorist and religious extremists can be
historically drawled upon. Affairs of government war can be coined with the Iranian revolution.
Little do many know, is that America had involvement in the war, which leads many to believe
America is the author, of the stereotyped image of Muslims back then and today, perpetuating
Islam phobia. Evidence is shown in a text, which states, 1953 to 1979 Following the coup, the
U.S installed Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, and the thriving democracy that existed in Iran was
crushed. The Shah led 25 years of tyrannical rule (supported by the CIA) that resulted in the

Analysis Of The Movie Ballad Of Gregorio Cortez
Borders Citizenship Rosalinda Castro Hispanics in the US 8:00 10:05am Midterm PART AAriana
Ocho There cannot be a discussion about borders without also discussing the metaphors that are linked
to them. When speaking about the border people know the physical borderlines between countries, but
to understand borders one must look pass the physical boundaries. As a society we must be and make
ourselves more aware of the cultural identity, language, and community surrounding the Latino
American population. During the Mexican American War the border moved, but the people didn t.
History has shown us that no matter how thick the border might be Latino Americans have a strong
connection to their culture and roots; instead of assimilating, Mexicans live between two worlds. The
film, Ballad of Gregorio Cortez gave us a perspective of two cultures; Two cultures the Anglo and the
Mexican lived side by side in state of tension and fear . Cortez is running for his life as he heads north,
while the Anglo believe that because of his Mexican ethnicity, he would travel south to Mexico.
Throughout the film there were cultural tensions and misunderstandings; language plays an important
part of someone s identity, and for many Latino Americans Spanish is their first language. The Ballad
of Gregorio Cortez also shows us that language plays an important role, and can cause confusion
between two different groups. For example, Anglos refer to a male

Factory Farms Pollution
Factory farms are becoming one of our main sources of pollution to our planet. The concentrated,
massive amount of animals in one place requires much resources, generates a huge amount of wastes
which are highly harmful to the surrounding environment. Furthermore, only a small fraction of feed
additives in intensive animal agriculture is metabolized in the animal s body, while the rest goes
unchanged into the urine and manure. Indiscriminate use of arsenic compounds in agricultural
activities during the 20th century has caused widespread soil pollution (Liu 273). The soil in the areas
is in such a poor condition that it is no longer fertile. The concentrated waste of the animals has
contaminated the groundwater and polluted the rivers nearby ... Show more content on

Environmental Protection Agency has blamed the current farming practices for 70% of the pollution in
the nation s rivers and streams. They reports that runoff of chemicals, silt, and animal waste from U.S.
farmland has polluted more than 173,000 miles of waterways in 1998. These natural resources are
being depleted at a faster rate than they can self replenish (Horrigan 447). Livestock are fed with
genetically engineered corn and soy instead of pasture which means that a lot of energy is used up by
the animal during the conversion of grains eaten to meat. Extensive monocultures of grain feedlots
used to supply diet in factory farms means the use of huge amounts of pesticides which pollutes
ground water and emits nitrous oxide (Horrigan 450). According to a 2006 report by the Food and
Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), animal agriculture is responsible for 18
percent of all human induced greenhouse gas emissions, including 37 percent of methane emissions
and 65 percent of nitrous oxide emissions. The methane releases from billions of imprisoned animals
on factory farms are 70 times more damaging per ton to the earth s atmosphere than CO2. Immense
natural ecosystems such as forests and wetlands have been destroyed to pave way to intensive feedlots
and animal rangeland. This wasteful exploitation of resources has disrupted the ecosystems natural

Be Careful Going Home, The Roads Are Slippy Essay
Be careful going home. The roads are slippy. That phrase makes me cringe. Western Pennsylvanians
are known for their interesting colloquialisms and I can t stand most of them. Colloquialisms are
words or phrases that aren t formal or even literary and are spoken in common conversation, according
to Oxford Dictionaries. The correct word is slippery and not this strange word pronounced slippy.
Other ones like yinz, dippy egg, pop, gob, red up, hoagie, and buggy are common words around here
and I believe it makes the people saying them sound like hicks. I ve grown up in this area, surrounded
by these words, yet I feel each one is worse than the next. This wasn t always the case though. When I
was younger, my family said a few of the colloquialisms from this area since they ve lived here their
whole lives. My mother was from Latrobe and my father was from Johnstown. We lived in a small,
extremely rural area between Johnstown and Altoona where you could always smell natural fertilizer
and you lived a fair distance from your neighbors. So, by the time I entered school, I had heard a few
of them like gob, dippy egg, and sweeper. School was where I learned more phrases and started using
them. I would say buggy instead of shopping cart, crick instead of creek, and even slippy that I now
loathe. During my freshman year of high school, the drama club went on a trip to New York City and
everyone there could tell exactly where we were from. This made me rethink what I was saying and

Kidd Understanding Human Origins Summary
Kidd, like many European Christians, explains the importance of Genesis on understanding human
origins. Kidd points out the significance of Genesis by stating that this first book of the Bible explains
the origins of mankind, the peopling of the world by the sons of Noah, and the confusion of language
(Kidd, 19). Kidd then begins to explain how historians were tempted into researching how legitimate
the book of Genesis was and what the underlying similarity between the races was. Race quickly
became a theological problem that challenged the Bible and Christian teachings. It was important for
European Christians to prove the unity of race because it was fundamental to Christian theology
(Kidd, 26). If race was challenged and later stated that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was seen as a reliable source in understanding the world and how it came to be. Kidd begins to
focus on this idea and whether the Bible was a reliable source or if it only covered the history of
certain part, or parts, of the world (Kidd, 55). This phenomenon can most be seen with the discovery
of the New World and Native Americans. Kidd explains how the Bible did not mention anything of the
New World and most importantly the people living there. Other commentators of this idea questioned
which lineage, if any, did the Native Americans descend from and why did the Bible ignore the New
World. This spawned an entire new form of questioning the Bible and its credibility. It once again
challenged and undermined the Christian authority. It challenged the Christian authority by further
questioning if Noah and his sons populated the entire earth (Kidd, 57). European Christians then
turned to other parts of the Bible to make sense of this New World and its new people .
Throughout history, European Christians have used personal interpretations of the Bible to answer
questions of human origins. These interpretations of biblical passages have also pushed to question
biblical authority and its accountability. This has proved that it is significant to learn these specific
events in history because these events allow us to understand how historians tried so hard to make
sense of the Bible and ensure its authority. Biblical passages like the stories of Cain and Noah s sons
have paved interpretations for European Christians that lead to certain answers of human origins over

Aspca Mission Statement
What comes to mind when you hear the song Angel by Sarah McLachlan? Do you get teary eyed and
change the channel like the musician herself? When I hear this song, the first thing that comes to mind
is a bunch of wide eyed mistreated puppies and kittens. Who is behind these television ads, if you don
t already know? The answer is the ASPCA. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals, was the first humane society to be established in North America back in 1866. The
organization s goals and mission statement is to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty
to animals throughout the United States, (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals). This non profit organization s focus is to get pets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Pathos is an appeal to emotions and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an
emotional response. Referring to the television advertisements, these videos say animals are abused
and helpless. These animals need to be rescued from their abusive homes, and even though many have
been helped, there is still more to be done. Therefore, more donations are needed. The tone in these
videos is hopeful yet morose. It is hopeful because they say it is not too late to save more animals, but
it is morose to reflect the suffering of the mistreated and neglected ones. The ASPCA uses sad music,
celebrities, images and videos of abandoned, beaten, and starved puppies and kittens playing to the
audience s emotions. Angel by Sarah McLachlan is the song associated with this commercial. This
heart wrenching song contains lyrics such as you are pulled from the wreckage, (Sarah McLachlan
Animal Cruelty Video). As the song plays, the viewer sees pictures and videos of animals being
rescued, and hurt pets that may not recover. The combination of the song and pictures makes viewers
feel emotionally attached to the animals on the screen. After viewing, many feel that donating is their
obligation because it is impossible to avoid the close up images of a watery eyed dog, forcing you to
make eye contact and feel a connection. Sarah McLachlan s words also contribute to the

Gst Reform Case Study
The Grattan Institute s proposal to broaden the base and increase the rate of the goods and services tax
(GST) is rooted in principles of economic rationalism that fail to sufficiently consider political and
pragmatic concerns. Comprehending the manner in which policy networks in Australia have evolved
in recent decades is crucial towards placing the Grattan Institute s role into context as the
identification of key actors and political groups in this debate otherwise would be opaque. Issues of
constitutionality and political controversy naturally arise when considering this far reaching reform
due to pressures that the GST impose on the very essence of federalism and power in Australia. The
advantages of reforming the GST are largely derived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The heuristic and iterative approach of the policy cycle suggests that proposals to amend the GST
appear to be languishing during its early phases. Of the eight distinct segments that comprise the
policy cycle, it seems that the government has so far only progressed through the first four: the
identification of the issue, policy analysis, policy instruments, and consultation. The government has
certainly advanced to at least the second stage of the policy cycle as the Department of the Treasury
(2016, p. 1) has publicly released economic modelling asserting [a] tax mix switch involving income
tax cuts and increasing the GST to 15 per cent would deliver negligible GDP gains. Whilst it is
debateable as to whether the government can be considered as having entered the consultation phase,
the presence of numerous public comments on GST reform by Liberal Party Members of Parliament
indicates that the party room has likely discussed the topic in at least a peripheral sense. However, the
policy cycle does possess serious limitations that detract from its ability to serve as an effective prism
through which to judge government movement on the GST. A powerful criticism of the cycle is that it
ignores the role that non ministerial, non major party parliamentarians play in shaping the course of
public policy,

Summer Break Argumentative Essay
This question has been asked many times with school board officials let s look at the facts, Summer
break started because the children of poor farmers would miss school in order to help their families
harvest they would miss many days of school and wouldn t be able to learn as much as the children
whose families were wealthy. They eventually decided to shorten the calendar so that no one could
miss school. Here in the 21 st century no one needs to miss school, nowadays a small amount of
people have families that own farms but the children don t have to miss school to work on them!
Summer break is now a fun break, but do kids really need it? I believe they don t there are enough
missed school days from three day weekends to spring break there really is no point to have the school
calendar shortened anymore. So should we keep Summer? According to ... Show more content on

Using statements from https://www.care.com/c/stories/3283/the pros and cons of year round school/
you can gather that students won t forget, which improves grades, which will help with state
standardized tests. The summer also proves to be the time where students have no need to do any
learning which allows students to come back to school with no new knowledge and only vague
memories of their previous lessons. To reiterate, School should be all year long. The benefits from this
decision affect teachers, parents, and the students themselves.Making the school year longer would
make a great impact on people s lives. Year long school would allow families to work instead of watch
their child, teachers to not have to get a second job,and the school having better grades because of the
students extra practice. That is why school should be all year

  • 2. What Is The Five Forces Of Nestle The Industry Environment Analysis Compared with the general environment, the industry environment has a more direct effect on the firm s strategic competitiveness and to earn above average returns. The intensity of industry competition and an industry s profit potential are functions of five forces of competition such as the threat of new entrants, bargaining power of supplier, bargaining of power buyers, threats of substitute products, and intensity of rivalry among competitors (Hanson, D., Hitt, M., Ireland, R. D., Hoskisson, R. E., 2011, p.48). Porter s Five Forces Model was created to act as a framework for industry analysis and business strategy development. Porter singled out five different forces that impact competitive intensity which portrays an image of the overall attractiveness and profitability of a market. • 3. Life of Maxamillian Robespierre Maximilien Robespierre declared at the trial of King Louis XVI. The King must die so that the nation can live. Robespierre advocated the kings demise and with it the ways of the Ancien Régime. However, in an ironic twist of fate his words also foreshadowed his own rise and fall as the leader of the French Revolution. Known as The Incorruptible , or alternately Dictateur Sanguinaire Robespierre is a monumental figure of the French Revolution, but which was he? Was he the incorruptible revolutionist fighting to overthrow the Ancien Regime or a raging radical that implemented his own absolute tendencies under the cover of the revolution? Another characteristic of Absolutism is that of the subjugation of the church. While previous absolute rulers either appointed the clergy or became the head of the church Robespierre took a different direction by forming his own religion. The Cult of the Supreme Being was developed by Robespierre based on a radical concept of deist beliefs, but with the addition of the quest for virtue and civic duty as well as emphasizing reason. Robespierre stated that his religion would banish all the ridiculous phantoms that the ambitions of priest and the politics of kings have commanded us to obey in the name of heaven. On May 7, 1794 Robespierre introduced the Cult of the Supreme Being to the National Convention and on June 8 the Festival of the Supreme Being was held to inaugurate the new state religion. The former catholic state was banned. With the adoption of this new religion the Catholic Church lost any remaining power they had on a political level, lowering them to a never before seen powerless in France. Not only did this new radical religion revoke the power of the Catholic Church, but all that power was imbued into the leader of this new religion, Robespierre himself. He church wasn t the only body that was reduced to a powerless state during this time, but the nobility as well. The subjugation of the nobility is an important trait of ... • 4. The Postal System During The 19th Century The postal system played a crucial role in national expansion. It facilitated expansion into the West by creating an inexpensive, fast, convenient communication system. Letters from early settlers provided information and boosterism to encourage increased migration to the West, helped scattered families stay in touch and provide assistance, assisted entrepreneurs in finding business opportunities, and made possible regular commercial relationships between merchants in the west and wholesalers and factories back east. The postal service likewise assisted the Army in expanding control over the vast western territories. The widespread circulation of important newspapers by mail, such as the New York Weekly Tribune, facilitated coordination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the Post Office expanded, difficulties were experienced due to a lack of employees and transportation. The Post Office s employees at that time were still subject to the so called spoils system, where faithful political supporters of the executive branch were appointed to positions in the post office and other government corporations as a reward for their patronage. These appointees rarely had prior experience in postal service and mail delivery. This system of political patronage was replaced in 1883, after passage of the Pendleton Civil Service Reform Act.[19] Ten years before waterways were declared post roads in 1823, the Post Office used steamboats to carry mail between post towns where no roads existed.[citation needed] Once it became clear that the postal system in the United States needed to expand across the entire country, the use of the railroad to transport the mail was instituted in 1832, on one line in Pennsylvania.[20] All railroads in the United States were designated as post routes, after passage of the Act of July 7, 1838. Mail service by railroad increased rapidly thereafter.[21] ~ Benjamin Franklin ~ George Washington ~ The First U.S. Postage Stamps Issued 1847 The first stamp issues were authorized by an act of Congress and approved on March 3, 1847.[22] The earliest known use of the Franklin 5¢ is July 7, 1847, while the earliest known use of the Washington 10¢ is July 2, 1847. It is not my pleasures or pains that matter but the cumulative happiness of a number of people (MacKinnon 93). Under this, it is just for the Omelas to make one child suffer to maintain the happiness of the society. Utilitarianism is better explained and supported by the trolley problem, a hypothetical case where you have the power to allow a trolley to kill five workers or one worker by pulling a switch. According to utilitarianism, you would not only be permitted, but required to pull the switch, which would result in one death and five lives saved (MacKinnon 100). By losing one life ... • 7. The Beta Amasment For Nike Company What is the beta measurement for Nike Company? Beta measurement for the Nike Company, is a statistical measure that compares the volatility of a stock against the volatility of the broader market, which is typically measured by a reference market index. Since the market is the benchmark, the market s beta is always 1. When a stock has a beta greater than 1, it means the stock is expected to increase by more than the market in up markets and decrease more than the market in down markets. Conversely, a stock with a beta lower than 1 is expected to rise less than the market when the market is moving up , but fall less than the market when the market is moving down. • 11. Factors That Affect Resilience In my term paper, I would like to talk about Resilience which I believe is a prerequisite for an effective leader. Life has ups and downs and adversities are inevitable. Things can beyond our control, it is impossible for us to prevent unpleasant circumstances from happening. Difficulties and problems come out of nowhere, the stress and anxiety associated with adversity may knock us down if we cope with them inadequately. First of all, I would like to define what resilience is. Major scholars believe it is the process to recover from trauma, or the ability to respond to adversity. Caesarean section (CS ) is a surgical intervention which is carried out to assure safety of mother and child when vaginal delivery is difficult or when the doctors consider that the danger to the mother and baby would be greater with a vaginal delivery. One of the important indicators of emergency obstetric care is Caeserean section rate (World Health Organization 2009). Various matters like the health care inequity pattern of the world: underuse of CS in low income settings, and adequate or even unnecessary use in middle and high income settings can be observed and followed with use of Caeserean section rate(1). Caeserean section rate below 5 per cent signifies that substantial proportion of women do not have access to surgical obstetric care; however a rate higher than 15 per cent connotes over utilization of the surgical procedure for reasons other than for life saving ones (WHO 1993; WHO 1985). Robots have severely and positively impacted life and are intended to positively impact future life. They make it really easy to accomplish tasks and save humans from doing the most difficult tasks. They have developed to the point where they have revolted against people and are advancing to take over the world by taking over humans and preventing humans from completing undesired tasks. They are considered to be more flexible and more adaptable than other automated systems. This technology is advancing over years and robots are now able to perform many tasks more quickly, cheaply and accurately than humans. There were many domestic solutions of the use of robotics in the past when the microwave was invented. In today s present society robotics has created an automated vacuum cleaner which is an iRobot called Roomba. The use of robotics is emerging throughout society and is intended to make industrial solutions such as robots used for working and construction in the future In history of robotics, an invention was the microwave. • 18. Summary Of Dancing At Lughnasa Dancing at Lughnasa is a play written by Brian Friel first published in 1990. In the play, Friel tells the story of Ireland as a whole through the story of a family living in Ballybeg, Donegal. The family consists of five sisters and their brother, as well as Michael. Michael is the son of one of the sisters, Christina, but more importantly the narrator of the story. The play is set in the summer of 1936. The first change mentioned in the book is the return of Father Jack. Father Jack is the oldest member of the Mundy family, a missionary priest, who has spent the last 25 years in Uganda. During his time in Uganda, he has absorbed the African religion and culture. Jack s return affects greatly the everyday life of the Mundy sisters as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Kate refuses change. As mentioned before, she cannot accept Father Jack s new beliefs. This disapproval for change might come from the fact that Kate is afraid of losing control: suddenly you realize that hair cracks are appearing everywhere; that control is slipping away . That is why she rarely joins the girls in dancing. She is worried about their futures and even though she is described as a cold person, she truly cares about her sisters, which we can see when Agnes and Rose decide to leave, as Kate is described to be inconsolable . The change in Kate s character is minimal, even when everything around her is changing. As Kate is laid off from her job as a teacher, the authority structures in the house begin to break down. The girls start challenging the internal hierarchy of the house. For example, Rose becomes more confident and starts standing up for herself. A Successful Analysis Of Data Using Ancova A successful analysis of data using ANCOVA is dependent on assumptions that relate to the study design, namely, a continuous dependent variable, a categorical independent variable with two or more independent groups, a continuous covariate variable, and the need for independence of observation (Field, 2012). Other assumptions are presented during the course of the SPSS analysis to ensure data does not violate assumptions, even though there is some leeway for violation of certain assumptions. For the analysis, time spent stalking after therapy (stalker2) was the dependent variable, the intervention group (cognitive behavior therapy contrasted with psychodynamic therapy) was the independent variable, and time spent before therapy (stalker1) was the covariate to control for incoming behavior. Two study designs are associated with ANCOVA pre post study designs and condensing the outcome of inappropriate variable, but only after the preliminary assumptions have been satisfied (Huitema, 2011). The Stalker.sav data was appropriate for measuring the same dependable variable in two or more unrelated independent groups over two points; hence the pre post study design. Linearity Assumption There was a linear relationship between the time spent stalking before therapy (pre) and the time spent stalking after therapy (post) for each intervention type, as evidenced by the scatterplot below. The act came in full action in October 2000. It was designed to integrate a traditional civil liberties approach to safeguard effective political democracy , from the strong customs of freedom and liberty in the United Kingdom. The massive influx forced the labouring classes to live in slums, where overcrowding was a key factor and where the spread of diseases such as diphtheria and scarlet fever were an ever present threat. The small houses could be home for as many as ten people, all living together in small unventilated rooms. Between the rows of terraced houses there were open drains and rubbish where children played, and water came from wells that were often polluted. The Importance Of Aerobic Life On Earth Essay Introduction: Aerobic life on earth is only possible thanks to the oxygen produced by the cellular respiration of plants and other photosynthetic organisms. This crucial service was recently demonstrated in a 2012 study by Martin et al. titled A paradigm of fragile Earth in Priestley s bell jar. The experiment was based off of Priestley s now famous bell jar experiment where Priestley first placed a mouse in a sealed jar without plant life, leading to the mouse s eventual asphyxiation, and placed another mouse in a sealed jar this time with the addition of mint sprigs. This second mouse survived unscathed and in an effort to replicate this experiment on a large scale Martin et al. s study focused on keeping a healthy 47 year old man in a small, well lit, and sealed greenhouse filled with a variety of plants for 48 hours. Their experiment was a success and the oxygen content in the greenhouse actually rose from a deliberately reduced initial concentration of 12.4 % O2 to an 18.1 % concentration more representative of our atmosphere. In our study we sought to compare the oxygen output of three different types of photosynthetic organisms, a strain of pea plant, a lichen, and an Elodea sp. to find which species yielded the most oxygen per gram of mass. We hope that the information acquired in our study can be used in a similar way to Martin et al. s study and hope it will be of especial service those seeking to transport or keep aerobic organisms in confined spaces, ... Yet, everyone in America still feels personally exempt from the media. They say, I don t pay attention to ads. I just tune them out. They have no effect on me. She later states most of the people who have said this to her were wearing Gap™ tee shirts. Whether people realize it or not, there is a direct correlation between the media and an individual s identity. We imitate practices displayed in the media, however licentious they may be and this changes our values and our self image, which changes our individual identity. The collective identity is also impacted because the media, in this scenario rap, changes our paradigms about the roles people play in a society. This is done in rap songs with the degrading of women and the encouragement of violence. As outlined here, media in the form of modern music or rap has a negative effect on a human beings collective and individual identity. Next I am going to talk about advertising focused on gender roles as a form of negative media. For women, the media is always focused on how they look. It constantly degrades women s self esteem by telling them to be skinny, vulnerable, powerless, and silenced. In addition, the media turns women into objects or things instead of beings, which encourages violence towards them. This teaches women it is okay for people to use them. Men are also negatively impacted by the media as they are scrutinized for having feminine qualities such as compassion, nurturance, cooperation, empathy, sensitivity, and good communication skills. Men are told they must be violent, brutal, and ruthless, especially towards women. The media s perspective on what it means ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Movie Ballad Of Gregorio Cortez Borders Citizenship Rosalinda Castro Hispanics in the US 8:00 10:05am Midterm PART AAriana Ocho There cannot be a discussion about borders without also discussing the metaphors that are linked to them. When speaking about the border people know the physical borderlines between countries, but to understand borders one must look pass the physical boundaries. As a society we must be and make ourselves more aware of the cultural identity, language, and community surrounding the Latino American population. During the Mexican American War the border moved, but the people didn t. History has shown us that no matter how thick the border might be Latino Americans have a strong connection to their culture and roots; instead of assimilating, Mexicans live between two worlds. The film, Ballad of Gregorio Cortez gave us a perspective of two cultures; Two cultures the Anglo and the Mexican lived side by side in state of tension and fear . Cortez is running for his life as he heads north, while the Anglo believe that because of his Mexican ethnicity, he would travel south to Mexico. Throughout the film there were cultural tensions and misunderstandings; language plays an important part of someone s identity, and for many Latino Americans Spanish is their first language. The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez also shows us that language plays an important role, and can cause confusion between two different groups. For example, Anglos refer to a male ... The concentrated, massive amount of animals in one place requires much resources, generates a huge amount of wastes which are highly harmful to the surrounding environment. Furthermore, only a small fraction of feed additives in intensive animal agriculture is metabolized in the animal s body, while the rest goes unchanged into the urine and manure. Indiscriminate use of arsenic compounds in agricultural activities during the 20th century has caused widespread soil pollution (Liu 273). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Environmental Protection Agency has blamed the current farming practices for 70% of the pollution in the nation s rivers and streams. They reports that runoff of chemicals, silt, and animal waste from U.S. farmland has polluted more than 173,000 miles of waterways in 1998. These natural resources are being depleted at a faster rate than they can self replenish (Horrigan 447). Livestock are fed with genetically engineered corn and soy instead of pasture which means that a lot of energy is used up by the animal during the conversion of grains eaten to meat. Extensive monocultures of grain feedlots used to supply diet in factory farms means the use of huge amounts of pesticides which pollutes ground water and emits nitrous oxide (Horrigan 450). According to a 2006 report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), animal agriculture is responsible for 18 percent of all human induced greenhouse gas emissions, including 37 percent of methane emissions and 65 percent of nitrous oxide emissions. The methane releases from billions of imprisoned animals on factory farms are 70 times more damaging per ton to the earth s atmosphere than CO2. • 48. Be Careful Going Home, The Roads Are Slippy Essay Be careful going home. The roads are slippy. That phrase makes me cringe. Western Pennsylvanians are known for their interesting colloquialisms and I can t stand most of them. Colloquialisms are words or phrases that aren t formal or even literary and are spoken in common conversation, according to Oxford Dictionaries. The correct word is slippery and not this strange word pronounced slippy. Other ones like yinz, dippy egg, pop, gob, red up, hoagie, and buggy are common words around here and I believe it makes the people saying them sound like hicks. I ve grown up in this area, surrounded by these words, yet I feel each one is worse than the next. This wasn t always the case though. When I was younger, my family said a few of the colloquialisms from this area since they ve lived here their whole lives. My mother was from Latrobe and my father was from Johnstown. We lived in a small, extremely rural area between Johnstown and Altoona where you could always smell natural fertilizer and you lived a fair distance from your neighbors. So, by the time I entered school, I had heard a few of them like gob, dippy egg, and sweeper. School was where I learned more phrases and started using them. I would say buggy instead of shopping cart, crick instead of creek, and even slippy that I now loathe. During my freshman year of high school, the drama club went on a trip to New York City and everyone there could tell exactly where we were from. This made me rethink what I was saying and ... • 49. Kidd Understanding Human Origins Summary Kidd, like many European Christians, explains the importance of Genesis on understanding human origins. Kidd points out the significance of Genesis by stating that this first book of the Bible explains the origins of mankind, the peopling of the world by the sons of Noah, and the confusion of language (Kidd, 19). Kidd then begins to explain how historians were tempted into researching how legitimate the book of Genesis was and what the underlying similarity between the races was. Race quickly became a theological problem that challenged the Bible and Christian teachings. It was important for European Christians to prove the unity of race because it was fundamental to Christian theology (Kidd, 26). If race was challenged and later stated that ... Kidd begins to focus on this idea and whether the Bible was a reliable source or if it only covered the history of certain part, or parts, of the world (Kidd, 55). This phenomenon can most be seen with the discovery of the New World and Native Americans. Kidd explains how the Bible did not mention anything of the New World and most importantly the people living there. Other commentators of this idea questioned which lineage, if any, did the Native Americans descend from and why did the Bible ignore the New World. This spawned an entire new form of questioning the Bible and its credibility. It once again challenged and undermined the Christian authority. It challenged the Christian authority by further questioning if Noah and his sons populated the entire earth (Kidd, 57). European Christians then turned to other parts of the Bible to make sense of this New World and its new people . Throughout history, European Christians have used personal interpretations of the Bible to answer questions of human origins. These interpretations of biblical passages have also pushed to question biblical authority and its accountability. This has proved that it is significant to learn these specific events in history because these events allow us to understand how historians tried so hard to make sense of the Bible and ensure its authority. When I hear this song, the first thing that comes to mind is a bunch of wide eyed mistreated puppies and kittens. Who is behind these television ads, if you don t already know? These animals need to be rescued from their abusive homes, and even though many have been helped, there is still more to be done. Therefore, more donations are needed. The tone in these videos is hopeful yet morose. It is hopeful because they say it is not too late to save more animals, but it is morose to reflect the suffering of the mistreated and neglected ones. Gst Reform Case Study The Grattan Institute s proposal to broaden the base and increase the rate of the goods and services tax (GST) is rooted in principles of economic rationalism that fail to sufficiently consider political and pragmatic concerns. Comprehending the manner in which policy networks in Australia have evolved in recent decades is crucial towards placing the Grattan Institute s role into context as the identification of key actors and political groups in this debate otherwise would be opaque. Issues of constitutionality and political controversy naturally arise when considering this far reaching reform due to pressures that the GST impose on the very essence of federalism and power in Australia. The advantages of reforming the GST are largely derived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The heuristic and iterative approach of the policy cycle suggests that proposals to amend the GST appear to be languishing during its early phases. Of the eight distinct segments that comprise the policy cycle, it seems that the government has so far only progressed through the first four: the identification of the issue, policy analysis, policy instruments, and consultation. The government has certainly advanced to at least the second stage of the policy cycle as the Department of the Treasury (2016, p. 1) has publicly released economic modelling asserting [a] tax mix switch involving income tax cuts and increasing the GST to 15 per cent would deliver negligible GDP gains. Whilst it is debateable as to whether the government can be considered as having entered the consultation phase, the presence of numerous public comments on GST reform by Liberal Party Members of Parliament indicates that the party room has likely discussed the topic in at least a peripheral sense. However, the policy cycle does possess serious limitations that detract from its ability to serve as an effective prism through which to judge government movement on the GST. A powerful criticism of the cycle is that it ignores the role that non ministerial, non major party parliamentarians play in shaping the course of public policy, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
