Racism And Segregation In A Lesson Before Dying
The setting of a novel is important in highlighting the central theme of the story. Ernest J. Gaines
choice of setting for his novel A Lesson Before Dying emphasizes the story s central theme of racism
and segregation. Gaines setting choices of a small southern Louisiana town in the 1940s, Henri Pichot
s plantation house and the local courthouse/jail all help to emphasize the central theme of racism and
segregation in the novel A Lesson Before Dying. Gaines description of the Bayonne courthouse and
jail, which Grant must walk through on his visits to Jefferson give the reader a glimpse of the racism
and segregation the black community members face throughout the story. Grant s narrative of the
washrooms at the courthouse demonstrate this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a grown man Grant speaks of Mr. Pichot s home and how he had come into this kitchen many
times as a small child...Miss Emma was the cook ...she had cooked for...the parents of Henri
Pichot...Henri and his brother and sister...and ran the house; my aunt washed and ironed... (18) yet
after all of those years Grant has never been further than the home s kitchen. We especially see Grant
mistreated at the Pichot house when he goes to speak with Mr. Pichout about Jefferson. Grant tells his
Tante Lou and Miss Emma about the visit saying, The humiliation I had to go through, going into that
man s kitchen. The hours I had to wait while they ate and drank and socialized before they would even
see me (79). The disrespect and humiliation endured by Grant Wiggins in Henri Pichot home
emphasizes the central theme of racism as the white plantation owner attempts to keep the black man
from gaining any power or even equality. Finally, Gaines setting choice of a small southern Louisiana
town in the pre civil rights 1940s plays an important role in calling attention to the story s central
theme of racism and

The Python Of The Kingdom Animalia
Topic 1: Context
By Selah Green
Topic 1A) The Python of the Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Chordata, Class Reptilia, Order Squamata,
Family Phythonidae is vertebrate with several diverse species (spp.) (Banks, 2004).
Topic 1B) The Python spp. is classified with Kingdom Animalia because they re heterotrophs and
exhibit motility. The Python spp. descendent from a chordata because they have a spine and backbone
developed from the notochord and dorsal nerve cord. The Python spp. is cold blooded species and
covered in scales. They have embryos or eggs that are covered by an amniotic membrane. All
phylogenetics are consistent with their relationship to lizards around 150 million years ago in the late
Jurassic Period (Strauss, 2016).
Topic 1C) There are different species of Pythons so their environments vary. The P. molurus bivittatus
inhabit Southeast Asia in jungles and grassy marshes (Society, 2014). The P. regius lives in Africa
adapting into farmland or grassland savannah. Most Python spp. are native to parts of Asia and Africa
(Gorzula, 1997). Some of the Python spp. swim and water features are important to their environment
such as the P. bivittatus. Juvenile P. bivittatus spent most of the time inhabiting trees but as adults, they
increase in size and weight will shift their habitat to the ground (Society, 2014). P. anchietae inhabits
rocks on mountain terrains and plains with shrubs (M.A, 2010).

Essay on Effect of Ethanol on Beetroot Membrane
Biology Coursework
Hypothesis: To investigate the effect of different concentrations of ethanol on the permeability of
beetroot cell membranes.
Prediction: By exposing a membrane to a solvent, ethanol, it will increase its permeability. So the
higher the concentration of the solvent, the more permeable the membrane will be. But if the
concentration of the ethanol is beyond a certain limit, it may break down the cell membrane to the
point where there is in fact no overall effect as the ethanol would disturb the lipids in the membrane.
Therefore, more of the red pigment in the beetroot would leak as the lipids control the substances that
enter and leave the cell membrane.
However the ethanol might also impair particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When beetroot is sliced or cut, the cells are also sliced, causing the pigment to spill out. The thinner
the slices are, the larger the surface area, which would increase the rate of pigment leakage. But if the
membrane is destroyed and the phospholipid bilayer and are changed, more pigment, betacyanin leaks
by means of diffusion.
The basic structure of betacyanins
Betacyanin
Betalaines are the red pigments of beetroot. They are water soluble and exist as internal salts in the sap
vacuoles of plant cells. Betalaines are made up of red betacyanins and yellow betaxanthins.
Betacyanines include about 90% of beetroot betalaines. The most important betacyanin is betain. This
makes up 75 95% of the total colouring found in the beetroot. Jm

Generally ethanol is an alcohol found in alcoholic drinks. At 100% concentration, it is pure and a
colourless liquid with a strong odour (due to weak Van der Wall forces :D. Ethanol is produced by the
fermentation of carbohydrates in yeast cells and is used frequently as a solvent.
Proteins which make up about 70% of cell membranes are affected by the pH of ethanol. Proteins are
made of amino acids which can form hydrogen bonds with the many hydrogen atoms found in the
molecule.
The position of some of these hydrogen atoms formed change when the pH of a solution changes.
Therefore the shape of the protein molecule alters due to the change in pH.

Coding Graphic Design
Is Coding Important in Graphic Design? Despite what some new graphic designers say, coding is still
an important part of graphic design. This is hotly debated because graphic designers can use many
professional drag and drop tools to create beautifully functional websites. These tools allow graphic
designers to focus on fine turning their art and efficiently using their time. The graphic design industry
is highly competitive because there is always a readily available labor force of highly qualified, part
time professionals. Graphic designers who can code will increase their job competitiveness and enjoy
better job security. The Advantages of Coding Graphic designers do not work in a bubble, but instead

The Debate Of Economics Between Bentham And Aristotle
A Debate of Economics Between Bentham and Aristotle
With all the many issues facing our country today it is difficult to pin down exactly what the biggest
issue is, so instead of picking the biggest issue I decided to pick the issue that has affected people the
most in this country as well as other countries which would be economics. When it comes to
economics the biggest issue facing our country is that we no longer produce what we need to keep up
with our economic system, so what if the philosophers that created the ideas and basic principles so
long ago were around now, and furthermore, what if they were running for the two thousand sixteen
presidential election? In the following I will present a debate between the famous philosophers
Bentham and Aristotle in regards to the current economic system.
Moderator:
First question of the debate: How would you, as US president restore the production of goods to
improve our economic system?
Aristotle s Response
As someone who believes in economic equality I believe that economic scarcity is an inevitable aspect
of human nature that being said, the action we must take as a country to improve is looking at
economic actions as a opportunity to use goods only as an essential for life. To conclude my answer to
this question I believe that as long as goods and services are used to have helpful uses to people it is
essential to our economy because if we are putting money into goods that are useless it s a waste of
money, and

Two brothers, Howard and Guy Lawrence, make up the English electronic music duo known as

Osteosarcoma Case Studies
Osteosarcoma, deriving form primitive bone forming mesenchymal cells, is the most common primary
bone malignancy[1]. The incidence rates of osteosarcoma has a bimodal age distribution. It typically
occurs during adolescence and has the second peak in older adulthood[2]. There is variability in
location between age groups, but usually the osteosarcoma occurs most frequently in long bones. The
etiology of osteosarcoma is currently being studied but still not well understood[3]. Several studies
showed that age, gender and height are risk factors for osteosarcoma[4]. The overall survival (OS) of
osteosarcoma has been improved significantly because of effective chemotherapy combination[5].
Studies showed that complete surgical resection with addition of chemotherapy has increased the 5
year OS to approximately 70%[5], but improvements in osteosarcoma survival during the last decade
have been limited[6]. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Effect Of Leadership And Teachers On Students Achievement
Abstract
Each school in Australia strives to create an environment in which all students have equal access to
quality education which can enable them to become successful contributors to society. This paper aims
to examine the research on the effect of leadership and teachers on student achievement. It will
examine the research on leadership styles and the effects that leadership has on teachers and student
achievement.
Introduction
Australia, like most developed nations, has seen dramatic educational reforms over the past 60 years,
with the desire to improve student achievement and create a productive workforce and economy. Our
education system must allow each individual to reach their potential regardless of their economic
means and enable them to live a life of meaning and purpose (Teaching Talent). The shift in
educational practice has been a result of a greater understanding of what actually impacts students
achievement. The 1960 s to present day has seen a significant shift in the idea that student
achievement is solely dependent on the social background of the student to the current view that
schools via teachers and leadership can have a significant effect on student achievement. The teacher
has the greatest impact on student learning but a teacher does not exist in isolation. The principal plays
a significant role in providing high impact policies and practices which support teachers and therefore
indirectly has an impact on student achievement.

Literary Devices In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
A Good Man is Hard to Find A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Conner is a story about a
family vacation ending tragically. The Grandmother convinces Bailey (her son) that they should go to
Tennessee instead of Florida for vacation because the kids have been to Florida before. She tells him
that the Misfit just escaped from prison and is heading to Florida. Bailey gave in and takes them to
Tennessee. The Grandmother is eager to see a house that was on an old plantation that was once there
when she was younger. She persuades the kids to want to see it as well. The kids get excited and beg
their father to see the house. While turning down that road, the Grandmothers cat jumps on Bailey s
shoulder, which causes him to wreck the car. The Grandmother soon remembers the old plantation was
in Florida, not Tennessee. Soon, the family meets their fate. The author uses many literary devices to

Modification Of Host Behavior By Parasites
Modification of Host Behavior by Parasites Two fundamental principals are capable of explaining the
entire field of biology and it can be said that every living organism operates by these two principals.
Whether it be the most basic single celled prokaryotes who dwell in the boiling hot waters of
hydrothermal vents or the most highly evolved of the animal kingdom, Homo sapiens, whose brain is
so complex that it seems to exist almost as a microcosm of our own universe, all are driven by the
same two motivations. First, and by far the most important, is sex. Everything must have sex.
Reproduction, whether sexual or asexual, and procreation are the highest priorities of any organism
and the continued existence of life on this Earth depends upon on this achievement. Secondly, and
significantly less important than reproduction is survival. It may seem humorous to entertain the idea
that a sexual (or asexual) experience could possibly be of greater concern to an organism than the
preservation of its own life, but it is not entirely absurd. Only completion of the former allows for a
species, and essentially life as a whole, to progress and evolve, while completion of the latter does not.
Survival without reproduction has no purpose. Indeed, it could be argued that longevity serves the
only purpose of facilitating the occurrence of more reproductive opportunities before the inevitable
death of the organism. As every organism contained within the millions and millions of

(CFHS, 2014) L Oréal Canada should work hard to ensure that all of our manufacturing faculties
comply with the standards of CCAC so that our faculties can be certified for good animal practices as
well. It is important that our researchers and manufacturers find alternative methods to animal testing,
and only resort to the use of animals when all else fails. If there is no option but to use animals for the
testing of cosmetic products, the number of animals used should be minimized, and pain and
discomfort for those animals should be reduced as well. This is how the implementation of the three R
s of ethics should be used with regards to animals in research so that we have good business practices
and consumers will be more willing to purchase our products.
Sections 444 447 under the Criminal Code of Canada protects the rights of animals against cruelty, but
it the provincial legislation that deals with the use of animals in research. (CFHS, 2014) Quebec has a
specific legislation for animals in research, but this legislation does not have the CCAC guidelines
implemented into the legislation. (CFHS, 2014) At L Oréal Canada, since we are located in Montreal,
we should focus on incorporating CCAC guidelines into our business practices even though the
provincial legalisation does not make it a requirement. This is important because consumers want to
purchase products from companies that have good business practices and protect the rights of animals.
Therefore our

The technology is many years away from development. Blood pulses on a finger can be measured by
new biometric systems. This technology is currently under development. Nail bed identification is
based on identifying distinct spatial arrangement beneath the fingernail. Gait recognition is another
technology which is under development. This recognizes individuals by their distinctive walk and
captures a sequence of images to derive and analyze motion characteristics. The technology is
currently under development and its complete potential and limitations can be fully assessed. Many
biometric identification systems are being developed and tested (Woodward, 2005).
Biometric technologies are getting better and finely tuned. The rate of false readings and errors has
sharply fallen. However it still requires careful consideration and planning to implement a biometric
identification system. They are most costly and complicated to implement as compared with other
authentication systems. A proper evaluation of the system is important before purchasing any
biometric system. A thorough risk analysis is necessary. In many cases biometrics may be overkill.
Biometrics must be used if there is high level of risk involved. Customer acceptance is also important
when logging on to company websites. Home users might not be ready to install biometrics on home
computers for online banking.
Another consideration is where the digital data and templates will be stored. The

Essay On Nursing Home Neglect
Most people dread nursing homes because it conjures up all types of negative images. Unfortunately,
many of the stories that we hear are true. Despite all the attention this issue has received recently,
neglect in nursing homes continues at an alarming rate. A large majority of nursing home residents
report some type of neglect every year. Tragically, only a few come to light as most seniors either do
not have the ability to communicate or are simply too afraid to speak up.
There are different types of nursing home neglect some of which include:
1. Medical neglect: This is said to occur when the nursing facility fails to meet or address the basic
medical concerns of the senior resident. For example, if the patient is diabetic, their blood sugar level
needs to be checked frequently. If this is not done, there is a risk that the patient may go into a coma.
Similarly, if a resident presents with symptoms of vomiting, severe abdominal pain, fever, and
diarrhea, it is important to take this condition seriously and to transfer the patient to the nearest. If the
staff does not monitor or cater to these medical situations, they are neglecting the patients.
2. Failure to meet basic living needs: Some nursing homes fail to meet the basic living needs of the
resident. For example, the resident is left in bed with soiled diapers for several days or is not provided
with an adequate amount of food or water, this type of treatment is against basic humanity. There are

Social Justice Promotes Equality Among People
Social justice promotes equality among people. Having the opportunity to describe social justice s
impact on my own life has challenged me to reflect on the blessings I have been given. Because I have
so much for which to be grateful, I have made acts of service a priority. Through community service, I
have gained a unique understanding of the importance of social justice and equality for all people. A
mentor once said to me, It is much better to be tired and making a difference in the world than to be
well rested and doing nothing. When I first entered high school, I was looking forward to new clubs
and activities that were now available to me. One club that caught my eye was Life Skills, a program

was absolutely thrilled to be playing a soccer game. After the game was over, and Ben received

Crown Insurance Services Case Analysis
CLAW3201 Case Analysis
Introduction
In Crown Insurance Services Ltd v Commissioner of Taxation (Crown), the issues raised are pertinent
to the residence and source of the company under s6(1) of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1936. As
cases are determined on the basis of all relevant facts and circumstances of each case, this analysis
will focus on how the court s decision process determined whether Crown had carried on business in
the years 2004 2007 inclusive and the existence of central management and control (CM amp;C) in
Australia. The purpose of this is to assess the valuation of Crown s taxable income, which ultimately
resulted in the objective decision to be set aside in favour of the applicant. Evaluation will be made in

Following from this, it is logical to assume that Mr Pattenden had dealt with the reception and
decision towards the valuation of claims while residing in Australia, as it would be extremely
unrealistic for him to travel to Vanuatu each and every single time he received a claim that needed
processing. When now compared to Malayan Shipping, Crown appears to possess much of the same
indicative facts that had caught Malayan Shipping as a resident of Australia. Mr Sleigh had similarly
made decisions relating to his business while in Australia and had drafted contracts that were then
intended to be signed outside of Australia. This was seen as the essential test confirming both carrying
on business and CM amp;C in Australia. It is therefore possible to suggest that should Crown be
further tested in a higher court in the future, highlighting the case of Malayan Shipping and focusing
more on CM amp;C could potentially alter the case outcome.

Case Analysis 3 Personal Navigation Devices (PNDs)
1Q. Why have Personal Navigation Devices become popular? What technologies are required to
facilitate the success of PNDs?
ANS: Personal navigation devices can become the next must have gadgets.
They add more comfort in the busy life in the sense that they give you an ability to concentrate on one
thing less. PND like, say, GPS are starting to win over customers, from weekend hikers or bikers to
people who are just tired of their lousy sense of direction. Some consumer GPS navigation devices
feature interactive street maps that may also show route information, and step by step routing
directions. For these reasons PND s are very helpful and useful.

Newer PND models are also incorporating 3D map capabilities. 3D map capabilities enable a PND s
map display to be more visually attractive, and also provide more detailed imagery and enhanced
graphics. Maps on PNDs provide displays of city landmarks and buildings, roads, other points of
interest to the driver, and other input necessary for navigation. The scale of the map display could be
adjusted, depending on the needs of the driver.
3Q. What will be a likely future for PNDs?
ANS: Nokia, Samsung Electronics, Motorola and other handset makers already introduced GPS
phones in 2007.
The inclusion of Google Maps Navigation in Android devices such as Motorola Droid, and Nokia s
announcement of free Ovi Maps, which rapidly integrated into smart phones.
PND vendors are increasingly looking at value added services enabled by new devices with wireless
connectivity to combat slower market growth, increasing competition and commoditization of entry
level devices. Berg Insight forecasts that 88 percent of PNDs shipped worldwide in 2015 will have
integrated cellular connectivity.
The connected PND segment has had a slow start, but now seems to be on track as business models
have been refined , said André Malm, Senior Analyst, Berg Insight. Although Connected PNDs are
unlikely to account for a significant share of total shipped units next year, rapid growth can be
expected once customers get used to new live services such as traffic flow information, speed

The Goal Is Clear And The Stakes Are High
THE REVERSE presents with an interesting idea. The goal is clear and the stakes are high. The script
is driven by solid themes about freedom, justice, and destiny. The tone is mainly dark and it presents
with as a very disturbing and violent story. While the concept feels thought provoking, the overall
script would benefit from more development. First, there s a solid inciting event when Justin is fired
and called a derogatory name. His decision to buy the plantation is the catalyst that moves the story
forward. His goal to reverse the power system, which he believes is controlled and run by the White
Man drives act two. However, there s a very awkward transition in the structure. Justin buys the
plantation and then suddenly he seems to go Rambo and gets violent looking for Cash and Cocaine.
This change in his behavior from a rather passive man to a very violent man feels very jarring and
inconsistent with the setup previously. In act two, Justin enacts his plan to abduct certain people.
However, the plan goes too well. There s no conflict in his plan. Every person they decide to kidnap is
easily abducted. Justin and his men are never almost caught. The idea of Rachel, Justin s former
girlfriend, being in charge of the investigation is too much of a coincidence. It feels too contrived and
this questions the credibility of the plot. The third act feels too passive with the idea of the courtroom
trial. The third act should actually contain the strongest tension

First Solar, Inc.
First Solar, Inc. located in Huntington Beach is a design and manufacturing company found in 1999
who produce photovoltaic modules, or solar panels, through the use of thin film semiconductors
(Reuters, para 2). The company however, has a much earlier history than scribed. In 1984, inventor
and owner of Solar Cells, Inc Harold McMaster manufactured solar cells from silicon
(energyandcapital, para 2). However, as silicon became more expensive, McMaster decided to switch
to cadmium telluride. This material was far more inexpensive than silicon which would eventually
lead the company to thrive. So it thrived, as in 1999 the company was purchased by True North
Partners, LLC and was named First Solar, Inc (energyandcapital, para 10). First Solar is the first solar
company to flourish and create new solar innovations. Such as, producing 1 GW of solar electricity in
a single year, breaking the one dollar per watt manufacturing overhead cost, and creating a
photovoltaic module recycling program (FirstSolar, para 2). To put that into perspective clean technica
explains that, 1GW of solar power can power up to 750,000 homes and about 2 coal fired power
plants (Shahan, para 2). To evaluate whether First Solar is a smart investment decision, we will first
take a look at growth profitability of the company along with the corporate responsibility the company
holds. We will also take into consideration energy efficiency as well as their support services. Based

Human Genetic Engineering And Eugenics
Human genetic engineering and eugenics have been a largely controversial topic over the past
decades. Eugenics can be popularly defined as the science of improving and enhancing a human
population or person through manipulating the human genes, selective breeding, and sterilization. The
end goal and desired result of eugenics is to basically create a human race or people with more
desirable biological, physical, or psychological traits. Eugenics and genetic modification is a current,
pressing subject; in April 2015, a group of Chinese researchers, used a new gene editing technology,
called CRISPR to [tinker] with the genomes of human embryos (Adams). Presently, according to CQ
Researcher, New genetic technologies allow scientists to delete a mutant gene and insert a healthy
one, which...has the potential to eliminate inherited diseases, such as cystic fibrosis. However, these
techniques have only been used on embryos belonging to laboratory animals. The big question here is
whether or not science and technology are crossing an ethical boundary by using these techniques and
performing genetic modification on human embryos. Do humans have the right to play God and alter
nature?
Following the background and history of genetic engineering and eugenics, it can definitely be seen
why ethicists and scientists are concerned. The concept and idea of passing on heritable traits was
introduced by English naturalist Charles Darwin in his work The Origins of Species in 1859. Soon to

Total Quality Management
Producing a quality product, whether a tangible item or a service, is the goal of all organizations, how
this goal is achieved will be the challenge. Quality of the end product has been an obstacle in America
for decades. In the post World War II era as production of products in America rose, the quality of
those products diminished. At the same time other countries such as Japan were not experiencing the
same quality issues.
The secrete to successful quality control was in the method of product management the Japanese were

How TQM Applies to Loma Linda University Medical Center
I am a respiratory therapist at Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC). The hospital is very
proud of the respected reputation which has been earned by the high quality of care provided. In one
aspect, the quality management is similar to traditional management styles, with regards to each
employee is responsible for delivering high quality care. A deeper look will reveal a TQM approach
by the administrators and management at all levels.
The most obvious TQM is the establishment of guidelines for the alignment of the organization to
achieve the standards set forth by the Joint Commission of Accredited Healthcare Organizations
(JCAHO). The JCAHO was developed to provide guidelines for healthcare organizations to provide
safe, quality patient care. All healthcare institutions must meet these guidelines in order to have the
opportunity to provide care for patients. These guidelines extend from how oxygen tanks are stored to
how often employees receive in services, continuing educations, and tested for basic skills.

Literary Analysis Of Miss Brill
In the short story Miss Brill an elderly woman sits in a park, romanticizing about all the possible
scenarios that are taking place around her. This story has many central themes, the main one, of
course, being perception. Miss Brill is a very perceptive woman, which is continuously showcased by
her being able to pick up on, and closely observe, the different narratives transpiring in the park. Miss
Brill was able to see the humour in these performances , however, ironically, she failed to see that she
herself was the subject of a joke. Through continuously romanticizing reality, and focusing only on
one s own point of view, one runs the risk of becoming oblivious to the way others view one s self.
Aforementioned, Miss Brill, an elderly woman, sits in a park within walking distance of her residence,
and observes. That is essentially the sum of the story, the shortened version. This is because she is
likely very lonely, as shown by the author, literally in the name, Miss Brill. Not Ms. Brill, not Mrs.
Brill, but Miss, which is done to emphasize that she is unmarried. The purpose of this is to point out
that she doesn t have anyone of significance in her life and that she is probably lonely. This is
important because it points out why someone, in their right mind, would want to sit around a park all
day and watch people. Except she doesn t just watch them, she dreams up narratives and ponders the
possible conversations they re having, and gives them a role to fill in her

Jillian started by saying that she was undecided whether or not to end the relationship with Tony as
she felt that if anyone found out, it would end up hurting up his whole family, children included. I

J: I m in two minds whether or not to finish it altogether, imagine how the kids would feel if they
found out, everyone would get hurt.
S: So you re feeling unsure as what to do, whether to end the relation ship or not. (reflecting feeling)
J: Yes, I want to keep seeing him but I don t want anyone getting hurt, but I suppose his wife will find
out eventually anyway. (response)
Jillian talked about being mixed up and not being able to decide if she really wanted a relationship or
if she was just scared of being alone. I paraphrased this back to Jillian.
J: I don t think I want a proper relationship, I mean I don t love him and sometimes it feels like he s
just using me for sex, but I don t want to finish it because then I would be totally on my own.
S: Some times you think that Tony might be using you, but you don t want to end it altogether, in fear
of being on your own. (paraphrase)

The Audience Of Jesus s Speech
The audience that Jesus was speaking to was engulfed in the teaching of the day. Not only through the
hearing of the teachings, but also through the actions of those in religious leadership and the actions of
normal every day people. Jesus made sure that the church was aware that he was not discounting the
law or trying to replace it, but rather he was getting back to the heart of the law and showing how
kingdom people live out these laws . Jesus did this by going through laws that had been given and
misinterpreted, and then Jesus guides them on what the law was originally trying to say. I will argue
that Jesus was trying to get back to the heart of the laws that were given, as well as encourage his

Verse 33 in Matthew 5 the first type of oaths that are addressed are oaths made to the Lord. Something
that was common to both the Jewish culture and the Gentile culture is that the mention of a deity in an
oath spoke to the truth of the oath and also to punish the one taking the oath if what was affirmed was
not true . People soon began manipulating this by thinking that they could manipulate God into doing
things . They were trying to limit the freedom which God possesses. Jesus then goes on to say, Do not
swear at all and continues on to list several things that are not to be sworn by. During this time, if
someone had made an oath and it turned out to be false, as long as the offending party had not sworn
to the Lord it was not looked at as a serious offense . Swearing by heaven, earth, Jerusalem, or even
one s own head was an even less serious type of oath and if people were already doubting the
assurance of the Lord, how much more would they have questioned the truthfulness of an oath made
to something seen as a lesser binding object ? One commentator notes that although the Greek word
choice is an unconditional negative it does not preclude all oaths. To take this as an unconditional
statement poses significant problems for the audience. In the Old Testament God himself made oaths .
Some commentators would even say that when Jesus makes the truly, truly statements he is swearing
to be true . One commentary even goes on to say, in

Metropolis, by Fritz Lang and Frankenstein, by Mary...
The idea of progress being inspired by the past is revisited in Fritz Lang s 1927 film Metropolis.
Though the film s titular city is a gleaming landscape of technological advancement it is through the
hands of the arcane inventor Rotwang that the film s most stunning creation comes into being. Like
Frankenstein revisiting outdated natural philosphers for his inspiration, Joh Frederson, the figurehead
of Metropolis and the man to whom technology means the most, turns to the aged inventor in hopes of
pushing technology even further. The visit to Rotwang is like a visit to the past: his house is the only

When held up to the monster in Shelley s novel, Rotwang s creation serves as an indication of how far
the technology in Metropolis has come. Though the basic premise of the two scenarios is the same,
namely the cobbling together of a being and its homuncular bringing to life, Rotwang s creation is a
much colder affair. Whereas Frankenstein built his monster from human remains, dabbling among the
unhallowed damps of the grave and collecting bones from charnel houses (Shelley, p. 62), Rotwang s
creation is made entirely of cold metal, it is a being of bronze and bolts. There is no room in Lang s
vision of technology gone awry for even the barest hint of human involvement. Everything is cold,
mechanical, and calculated. Even the workers, the lowest citizens on the societal totem and the only
human contact the machinery necessitates is at risk of being forced from their jobs by Rotwang s
metallic creation. If technology and progress are expressed by a metaphysical quandary in Shelley s
novel then in Lang s film it is entirely mechanical. Humanity comes second to the technology that

Importance Of Bilingual Education
Bilingualism has been always a part of the U.S. history. In the early days of exploration and
colonization, French, Spanish, Dutch, and German were as common as English. No doubt many of the
inhabitants were conversant in more than two languages. Underlining the importance of the bilingual
education in United States there are many different types of educational programs that exist for
emergent bilinguals. The historical concept of these programs shows the shift from a focus on the
home language and toward English only instruction.
As Ovando (2003) writes The 18th and 19th century responses to language diversity were shaped by
changing localized political, social, and economic forces rather than by any systematic ideas about
language itself (p. 4). 1700s to the 1880s were a time frame where a fair amount of tolerance neglect
existed toward the many languages. 1880s were the turning point in the historical development of
linguistic and restrictions in immigration policy.
Civil Rights Act Title VI and Bilingual Education Act Title VII are two examples of the rebirth of
bilingual education. Civil Rights Act Title VI prohibits discrimination based on race, color, and
national origin, prohibits denial of equal access to education due to limited English proficiency.
Bilingual Education Act Title VII recognizes the unique educational disadvantages faced by non

This may happen for the reason known as diffusion of responsibility . Psychologists have proven that
people are less likely to intercede in a situation if there are more people present. For example, John

called The Smoke Filled Room Experiment where they take in random person and put a smoke

Amazing Grace by Jonathan Kozol
At first glance and after reading through Amazing Grace, it seems that Jonathan Kozol is going to take
us on a journey through the lives of the underprivileged, but similar to the ones you read about, or hear
in the news. However, this is not the case; the real underlying theme seems to be how the life and
society they live in is very alike to a life in a prison, not because it talks explicitly about prison
conditions in this area, but also because their lives are portrayed as being a prison. Kozol uses the
views of children and adults throughout this book to emphasize this theme through their living
conditions and personal lives, background and struggles. Kozol writes about the trials and tribulations
of everyday normal life for the people who live here. Normal for them, however, is quite different than
it is for most of us. Living with drug dealers, pollution, poor hospital care and an awful education
system, not to mention the social system of the city, is the normal for them. In his interviews, even

Analysis Of The Old Man IsnT There Roman By Kellie Shmoman
When in Rome, Be a Roman
I find myself connecting on a deep level with the author, Kellie Schmitt, in her short story, The Old
Man isn t There Anymore. Schmitt, who is a journalist, frequently, contributes to several travel sites
with her articles such as; CNNgo, Marie Claire, and Afar Magazine, just to name a few. Schmitt tell us
a story of how she had moved to China and dreamt of neighborly inclusive lifestyle. Schmitt tried
several tactics of trying to fit in such as; asking her Chinese teacher if she was saying Hello
incorrectly and striking up gossip filled conversations with the all knowing cleaning lady (Faigley,
107). Only to find out, it was quite the opposite. It so happens that for several months, she is
consistently ignored by her neighbors until the day she was invited to one of the elderly neighbors
funeral. Schmitt had thought she would be attending the funeral of a gentleman that she frequently
said hello to in the hallway of her complex in which she lived in. Ultimately, through her comical
mishap, her ideal of what it was going to be like in the beginning finally come true. Schmitt chose her
words wisely and conveyed her story with wit and humor all the while detailing her experience in the
Chinese culture.
Schmitt had such a passion for learning and diving into the Chinese culture that she signed herself up
for classes to learn the language. The conundrum began when she noticed a family grieving in the
complex she was living in. To gain a complete

Description Of A Police Officer
Introduction I always knew that I wanted to become a police officer, so I decided to interview a Police
Captain. I interviewed Police Captain John Carpenter of Riverside Police Department. I found him
through Riverside Police Department after looking around at the organizational chart I found online
and looking at the titles that were on the chart. The Police Captain is one rank above a Lieutenant, but
one below a Deputy Chief. A Police Captain is in charge of a certain precinct, and normally has his/her
own division. Captain Carpenter is currently in charge of investigations, such as gangs, narcotics, vice,
and intelligence units. The first portion of the paper will discuss qualities and requirements for the
position, while the second portion of the paper will go more in depth into the occupation, such as the
training required, how candidates are chosen, and salary.
Becoming a Police Officer:
Qualities and Characteristics
Discussing with Captain Carpenter, we talked about the qualities that a police officer would need to
have:
1) Hard worker
2) Dedicated
3) Team oriented (Has a partner so they need to work well with others)
4) Physically Fit
5) Good Judgement and problem solving skills
6) Good listener
7) Assertive
Experience required: In order to become a police officer, there is no experience required, however to
move up to a detective, there is a minimum of 5 10 years working on patrol before you can be part of
an investigations unit.

How Missy s Car Has A Grey Scratch Like It s Been Hit By...
Explain to me how Missy s car has a grey scratch like it s been hit by something grey and low profile.
Arms folded, even standing while he was sitting Veronica wasn t much taller than Logan. It was the
height, she thought; always made people less afraid of her. If only her parents had given her taller
genes.
Monday morning came before Veronica had made heads or tails of Missy Blake Missing Persons or
her photography assignment for journalism. She still had seven periods before then, she reminded
herself, and before geography started she wanted to focus on Logan.
For his part, Logan looked a messier version of himself hair barely gelled into passive and uncaring
Logan Echolls chic.

How have you been dealing with Missy s disappearance? Surely this has to bring up feelings like after
Lilly s death? Ms. James went right in. Maybe that cat was alive.
Electric prod to that emotional cattle, sure, Veronica thought.
I actually didn t know Missy that well. Don t. Don t know her that well. Not that she wanted to, but it
at least sounded like an out to her.
It says in your file you were disciplined last week involving an altercation over Missy. Eyes never
leaving the page, Ms. James didn t exactly ask the question, but left Veronica to explain.
Mmm... not really involved, involved I was standing by the altercation. I was a by stander. Veronica
couldn t believe she actually wanted to go back to forty minutes about Himalayan mountains. Or
perhaps the actual Himalayan mountains.
There s nothing bothering you about her disappearance at all?
I mean... she s probably with some boyfriend in Tijuana, right? Or upstate skiing or something. Had a
fight with her parents and she ll be back when she s bored. Veronica didn t know what had happened
to Missy, but she was pretty sure she wasn t upstate skiing, even as she tried to convince Ms. James
that was what she thought.
Veronica, I remember how Lilly s death and that investigation affected you. Do you remember being
in this office those couple of months?

Analysis Of Social Media
Social media is constantly adding more and more different platforms. This discourse is constantly
evolving daily and presents the difficult task of naming all the different platforms. During my writing
phase of my project according to ebiz.com, the top fifteen most popular social media were: Facebook,
YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, Tumbler, Instagram, Reddit, VK, Flickr, Vine, Meetup, Ask,
FM, and Classmates this list is not exhaustive. For the purposes of this project, I will primarily focus
on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat and Instagram. Here are features of the social
media chosen for my project: ❖ Facebook is a popular free social networking website that allows
registered users to create profiles, upload ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Snapchat allows users to take pictures and videos called snaps. Users can set a time limit, after which
the picture or the video is removed from the Snapchat server and the recipient s device. This provides
security for users who are concerned their images may be stored on the Internet or used without their
permission. According to the Numbers Numbers don t lie. While statistics themselves are not enough
evidence to support my argument for the church to use social media, the most recent statistics indicate
that Americans are embracing the internet and social networking as a means of connection
precipitously. Social media is now an integral part of life online as social websites and applications
become more easily available. Most traditional online media include social components, such as
comment fields for users. Pew Research Center report the following statistics (see figures 1.1 and 1.2).
In that context, a national survey of 1,520 adults conducted March 7 April 4, 2016, finds that
Facebook continues to be America s most popular social networking platform by a substantial margin:
Nearly eight in ten online Americans (79%) now use Facebook, more than double the share that uses
Twitter (24%), Pinterest (31%), Instagram (32%) or LinkedIn (29%). On a total population basis
(accounting for Americans who do not use the internet at all), that means that 68% of all U.S. adults
are Facebook users, while 28% use Instagram, 26% use

The Ability Of Overcome Degenerative Policy Making Is...
The ability to overcome degenerative policy making is through policy analysis which deconstructs
policy designs in order to expose degenerative characteristics and deceptions (Schneider Ingram
1997). Public policy needs to be inclusive and should provide a clear vision of possibilities,
explanations of how and why antidemocratic elements are embedded in policy designs, and
interpretations of how designs impact democratic life (Schneider Ingram 1997, 207). According to
Stone (2011), knowledge tools reduce the need for coercive action or force because in the rational
model, information will resolve conflict between actual behavior and desired behavior.
Providing knowledge or educating make it unnecessary to incentivize or sanction the target in order to
elicit the desired behavior. Instead, lack of information or capacity is the primary barrier, and once the
appropriate information is relayed to the target, the desired behavior will follow (Schneider Ingram,
1997; Stone, 2011). However, people use a variety of strategies to help their interests and political
goals. Critics of rational choice theory contend that people act largely according to prior attitudes and
beliefs rather than new information (Stone, 2011, p. 314). One must be aware of human and social
behavior if they are to try and analyze policy.
Schneider Ingram (1997) identify some general principles (203 206) to look for during policy analysis.
Target groups should be constructed across the lines of

Gaines choice of setting for his novel A Lesson Before Dying emphasizes the story s central theme of racism and segregation. Gaines setting choices of a small southern Louisiana town in the 1940s, Henri Pichot s plantation house and the local courthouse/jail all help to emphasize the central theme of racism and segregation in the novel A Lesson Before Dying. Prediction: By exposing a membrane to a solvent, ethanol, it will increase its permeability. So the higher the concentration of the solvent, the more permeable the membrane will be. But if the concentration of the ethanol is beyond a certain limit, it may break down the cell membrane to the point where there is in fact no overall effect as the ethanol would disturb the lipids in the membrane. • 8. The Debate Of Economics Between Bentham And Aristotle A Debate of Economics Between Bentham and Aristotle With all the many issues facing our country today it is difficult to pin down exactly what the biggest issue is, so instead of picking the biggest issue I decided to pick the issue that has affected people the most in this country as well as other countries which would be economics. When it comes to economics the biggest issue facing our country is that we no longer produce what we need to keep up with our economic system, so what if the philosophers that created the ideas and basic principles so long ago were around now, and furthermore, what if they were running for the two thousand sixteen presidential election? In the following I will present a debate between the famous philosophers Bentham and Aristotle in regards to the current economic system. Moderator: First question of the debate: How would you, as US president restore the production of goods to improve our economic system? Aristotle s Response As someone who believes in economic equality I believe that economic scarcity is an inevitable aspect of human nature that being said, the action we must take as a country to improve is looking at economic actions as a opportunity to use goods only as an essential for life. To conclude my answer to this question I believe that as long as goods and services are used to have helpful uses to people it is essential to our economy because if we are putting money into goods that are useless it s a waste of money, and ... The Effect Of Leadership And Teachers On Students Achievement Abstract Each school in Australia strives to create an environment in which all students have equal access to quality education which can enable them to become successful contributors to society. This paper aims to examine the research on the effect of leadership and teachers on student achievement. It will examine the research on leadership styles and the effects that leadership has on teachers and student achievement. Introduction Australia, like most developed nations, has seen dramatic educational reforms over the past 60 years, with the desire to improve student achievement and create a productive workforce and economy. Our education system must allow each individual to reach their potential regardless of their economic means and enable them to live a life of meaning and purpose (Teaching Talent). The shift in educational practice has been a result of a greater understanding of what actually impacts students achievement. The 1960 s to present day has seen a significant shift in the idea that student achievement is solely dependent on the social background of the student to the current view that schools via teachers and leadership can have a significant effect on student achievement. The teacher has the greatest impact on student learning but a teacher does not exist in isolation. The principal plays a significant role in providing high impact policies and practices which support teachers and therefore indirectly has an impact on student achievement. Research ... • 19. Modification Of Host Behavior By Parasites Modification of Host Behavior by Parasites Two fundamental principals are capable of explaining the entire field of biology and it can be said that every living organism operates by these two principals. Whether it be the most basic single celled prokaryotes who dwell in the boiling hot waters of hydrothermal vents or the most highly evolved of the animal kingdom, Homo sapiens, whose brain is so complex that it seems to exist almost as a microcosm of our own universe, all are driven by the same two motivations. First, and by far the most important, is sex. Everything must have sex. Reproduction, whether sexual or asexual, and procreation are the highest priorities of any organism and the continued existence of life on this Earth depends upon on this achievement. Secondly, and significantly less important than reproduction is survival. It may seem humorous to entertain the idea that a sexual (or asexual) experience could possibly be of greater concern to an organism than the preservation of its own life, but it is not entirely absurd. Only completion of the former allows for a species, and essentially life as a whole, to progress and evolve, while completion of the latter does not. Survival without reproduction has no purpose. Indeed, it could be argued that longevity serves the only purpose of facilitating the occurrence of more reproductive opportunities before the inevitable death of the organism. First Solar, Inc. located in Huntington Beach is a design and manufacturing company found in 1999 who produce photovoltaic modules, or solar panels, through the use of thin film semiconductors (Reuters, para 2). The company however, has a much earlier history than scribed. In 1984, inventor and owner of Solar Cells, Inc Harold McMaster manufactured solar cells from silicon (energyandcapital, para 2). However, as silicon became more expensive, McMaster decided to switch to cadmium telluride. This material was far more inexpensive than silicon which would eventually lead the company to thrive. So it thrived, as in 1999 the company was purchased by True North Partners, LLC and was named First Solar, Inc (energyandcapital, para 10). First Solar is the first solar company to flourish and create new solar innovations. Such as, producing 1 GW of solar electricity in a single year, breaking the one dollar per watt manufacturing overhead cost, and creating a photovoltaic module recycling program (FirstSolar, para 2). To put that into perspective clean technica explains that, 1GW of solar power can power up to 750,000 homes and about 2 coal fired power plants (Shahan, para 2). To evaluate whether First Solar is a smart investment decision, we will first take a look at growth profitability of the company along with the corporate responsibility the company holds. We will also take into consideration energy efficiency as well as their support services. Based upon these factors a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Human Genetic Engineering And Eugenics Human genetic engineering and eugenics have been a largely controversial topic over the past decades. Eugenics can be popularly defined as the science of improving and enhancing a human population or person through manipulating the human genes, selective breeding, and sterilization. The end goal and desired result of eugenics is to basically create a human race or people with more desirable biological, physical, or psychological traits. Eugenics and genetic modification is a current, pressing subject; in April 2015, a group of Chinese researchers, used a new gene editing technology, called CRISPR to [tinker] with the genomes of human embryos (Adams). Presently, according to CQ Researcher, New genetic technologies allow scientists to delete a mutant gene and insert a healthy one, which...has the potential to eliminate inherited diseases, such as cystic fibrosis. However, these techniques have only been used on embryos belonging to laboratory animals. The big question here is whether or not science and technology are crossing an ethical boundary by using these techniques and performing genetic modification on human embryos. Do humans have the right to play God and alter nature? Following the background and history of genetic engineering and eugenics, it can definitely be seen why ethicists and scientists are concerned. The concept and idea of passing on heritable traits was introduced by English naturalist Charles Darwin in his work The Origins of Species in 1859. Soon to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Literary Analysis Of Miss Brill In the short story Miss Brill an elderly woman sits in a park, romanticizing about all the possible scenarios that are taking place around her. This story has many central themes, the main one, of course, being perception. Miss Brill is a very perceptive woman, which is continuously showcased by her being able to pick up on, and closely observe, the different narratives transpiring in the park. Miss Brill was able to see the humour in these performances , however, ironically, she failed to see that she herself was the subject of a joke. Through continuously romanticizing reality, and focusing only on one s own point of view, one runs the risk of becoming oblivious to the way others view one s self. Aforementioned, Miss Brill, an elderly woman, sits in a park within walking distance of her residence, and observes. That is essentially the sum of the story, the shortened version. This is because she is likely very lonely, as shown by the author, literally in the name, Miss Brill. Not Ms. Brill, not Mrs. Brill, but Miss, which is done to emphasize that she is unmarried. The purpose of this is to point out that she doesn t have anyone of significance in her life and that she is probably lonely. This is important because it points out why someone, in their right mind, would want to sit around a park all day and watch people. Except she doesn t just watch them, she dreams up narratives and ponders the possible conversations they re having, and gives them a role to fill in her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Verse 33 in Matthew 5 the first type of oaths that are addressed are oaths made to the Lord. Something that was common to both the Jewish culture and the Gentile culture is that the mention of a deity in an oath spoke to the truth of the oath and also to punish the one taking the oath if what was affirmed was not true . People soon began manipulating this by thinking that they could manipulate God into doing things . They were trying to limit the freedom which God possesses. Jesus then goes on to say, Do not swear at all and continues on to list several things that are not to be sworn by. During this time, if someone had made an oath and it turned out to be false, as long as the offending party had not sworn to the Lord it was not looked at as a serious offense . Swearing by heaven, earth, Jerusalem, or even one s own head was an even less serious type of oath and if people were already doubting the assurance of the Lord, how much more would they have questioned the truthfulness of an oath made to something seen as a lesser binding object ? One commentator notes that although the Greek word choice is an unconditional negative it does not preclude all oaths. Whereas Frankenstein built his monster from human remains, dabbling among the unhallowed damps of the grave and collecting bones from charnel houses (Shelley, p. 62), Rotwang s creation is made entirely of cold metal, it is a being of bronze and bolts. There is no room in Lang s vision of technology gone awry for even the barest hint of human involvement. Everything is cold, mechanical, and calculated. Even the workers, the lowest citizens on the societal totem and the only human contact the machinery necessitates is at risk of being forced from their jobs by Rotwang s metallic creation. The primary approach was to give Palestine the control of the state of Gaza and the West Bank, and leaving the rest of the land to Israel. This plan they came up with was called the two state solution which was supposed to help reduce less conflict. In the early days of exploration and colonization, French, Spanish, Dutch, and German were as common as English. No doubt many of the inhabitants were conversant in more than two languages. Underlining the importance of the bilingual education in United States there are many different types of educational programs that exist for emergent bilinguals. The historical concept of these programs shows the shift from a focus on the home language and toward English only instruction. As Ovando (2003) writes The 18th and 19th century responses to language diversity were shaped by changing localized political, social, and economic forces rather than by any systematic ideas about language itself (p. 4). 1700s to the 1880s were a time frame where a fair amount of tolerance neglect existed toward the many languages. 1880s were the turning point in the historical development of linguistic and restrictions in immigration policy. Civil Rights Act Title VI and Bilingual Education Act Title VII are two examples of the rebirth of bilingual education. Amazing Grace by Jonathan Kozol At first glance and after reading through Amazing Grace, it seems that Jonathan Kozol is going to take us on a journey through the lives of the underprivileged, but similar to the ones you read about, or hear in the news. However, this is not the case; the real underlying theme seems to be how the life and society they live in is very alike to a life in a prison, not because it talks explicitly about prison conditions in this area, but also because their lives are portrayed as being a prison. Kozol uses the views of children and adults throughout this book to emphasize this theme through their living conditions and personal lives, background and struggles. Kozol writes about the trials and tribulations of everyday normal life for the people who live here. Normal for them, however, is quite different than it is for most of us. Living with drug dealers, pollution, poor hospital care and an awful education system, not to mention the social system of the city, is the normal for them. In his interviews, even with the children of this overlooked neighborhood, we find that the children speak honestly and freely about their feelings. Forgotten, hidden, abandoned, are just some of the words that come to mind. One boy named Malcolm X wears his hair in a style referred to as 25 years to life . His sister asks Like in prison...? The ability to overcome degenerative policy making is through policy analysis which deconstructs policy designs in order to expose degenerative characteristics and deceptions (Schneider Ingram 1997). Public policy needs to be inclusive and should provide a clear vision of possibilities, explanations of how and why antidemocratic elements are embedded in policy designs, and interpretations of how designs impact democratic life (Schneider Ingram 1997, 207). According to Stone (2011), knowledge tools reduce the need for coercive action or force because in the rational model, information will resolve conflict between actual behavior and desired behavior. Providing knowledge or educating make it unnecessary to incentivize or sanction the target in order to elicit the desired behavior. Instead, lack of information or capacity is the primary barrier, and once the appropriate information is relayed to the target, the desired behavior will follow (Schneider Ingram, 1997; Stone, 2011). However, people use a variety of strategies to help their interests and political goals. Critics of rational choice theory contend that people act largely according to prior attitudes and beliefs rather than new information (Stone, 2011, p. 314).
