This is the campsite on Santa Barbara Island. A deer mouse scurried out of my tent as I was getting
ready for bed. This endangered species interested me greatly. As I arose that morning, I enjoyed the
sound of waves. I decided to go to Santa Rosa for my last day in the Channel Islands National Park. I
took an early boat to this island. I was mournful that I couldn t go to all five islands, but I knew that I
can t extend my trip.
When I got off of the boat, I headed to a historic site that I had read about. This place was called Vail
and Vickers Island Ranch. It is about 100 years old and it used to hold 3,000 to 7,000 cattle at a time!
For the rest of the day, I just kind of wandered around the green filled trails.
When I arrived on the boat home, I was very unhappy to be leaving this national park. I had such a

where early Europeans did. Also, all five islands have unique landmarks and animals that no other
