Sustainable Economic Growth And The Success Of A Country
Abstract
Last few decades we have seen a changing notion of what constitutes a successful nation. According
to the old school approach, sustainable economic growth is primarily seen as the best way to make a
successful country . There are a few questions that arise as to what factors contribute to the success of
a country. Is sustainable economic growth the best way to get there?
A country comprises of its citizens and the two most important components contributing to the success
of a country are the health and happiness of its citizens. Wealth becomes an important aspect only in a
manner where it encourages greater well being of the citizens.
Another aspect that we need to consider is that of sustainable well being. The term means maintaining
a balance between environment sustainability and well being. Thus, countries must provide well being
within environmental limits.
Economic growth as measured by gross domestic product doesn t really tell us much about citizens
general well being. Here we will be discussing about the change in approach towards what we
consider a successful nation today.

Cloud Of Unknowing Vs. The Book Of Margery Kempe
Religion in the Middle Ages takes on a character all of its own as it is lived out differently in the lives
of medieval men and women spanning from ordinary laity to vehement devotees. Though it is difficult
to identify what the average faith consists of in the Middle Ages, the life told of a radical devotee in
The Book of Margery Kempe provides insight to the highly intense version of medieval paths of
approaching Christ. Another medieval religious text, The Cloud of Unknowing, provides a record of
approaching the same Christ. I will explore the consistencies and inconsistencies of both ways to
approach Christ and religious fulfillment during the Middle Ages combined with the motivations to do
so on the basis of both texts.

Pursuing such spiritual fulfillment is a responsibility not to be taken lightly.
Often, literal commands of Jesus such as pilgrimages have two and three fold benefits. Besides the
very physical connections with the sacred that they offer arriving at places of sacred history,
pilgrimages are also a form of penance for sins. Because of the sacrifice of time, money, and risk to
make these pilgrimages, best seen by Kempe s outrageous devotion in leaving behind her life and
family for long periods of time, pilgrimages assist in erasing sins in ones life. Another reason that
Margery and medieval Christians would embark on these pilgrimages is for the reverence of saints and
their relics that they would visit. The Middle Ages emphasized an important connection to the lives of
past saints believing that the saints still had power to intercede blessings into the lives of religious
people on Earth. Where Margery is set a part from common laity, during her pilgrimage to Jerusalem
she receives a special spiritual gift of cryings that she can not control when religious emotion comes
over her. Describing these outbursts, the author of her autobiography says, The crying was so loud and
so amazing that it astounded people... (Windeatt, 104). It is assumable that emotional experiences
upon pilgrimages of either laity or monastics to such places as the Holy Land would be common,
however that people were

he was granted a free coffee every day. He wanted revenge from the French Prince, Pendragon,

Social Factors That Changed The World
Clothing became less expensive in the 1960 s because of the Industrial Revolution, so more people are
seen being involved in popular fashion trends and expressing themselves in ways they please because
of the affordability. The sharply angled Vidal Sassoon hair style where women cut their hair shorter
and styled it in an angular way. This decade also started the trend of people wanting to look skinnier.
Designers preferred models looked younger, thinner, and had longer legs. Social factors occurring at
the time also effected fashion and helped represent people s beliefs. André Courrège s came out with
many new fashions that reflected America s involvement in the Space Race with Russia during that
time and our achievement for having sent a person to the moon. This space age caused Courrège to
come out with designs that resemble space suits which included: silver sequined pants, white plastic
like boots, and white sunglasses with slits. Courrège also came out with a regular suit that had a
geometrically cut jacket and angled collar which became a big hit. In the 1970 s, many fashions were
inspired by the hippie look and many clothes were becoming handmade again. Hair was often worn
long and straight or rolled into corkscrew curls and loose waves. Hot pants, tie dyed shirts, bell
bottoms, and flared pants worn with platform shoes became a hit. Jeans also became a standard
clothing worn by many and towards the end of the decade and high waisted and skinny jeans were

Salinity Stress on Plants Essay examples
Salinity Stress on Plants
All plants are subjected to a multitude of stresses throughout their life cycle. Depending on the species
of plant and the source of the stress, the plant will respond in different ways. When a certain tolerance
level is reached, the plant will eventually die. When the plants in question are crop plants, then a
problem arises. The two major environmental factors that currently reduce plant productivity are
drought and salinity (Serrano, 1999), and these stresses cause similar reactions in plants due to water
stress. These environmental concerns affect plants more than is commonly thought. For example,
disease and insect loss typically decrease crop yields by less than ten percent, but severe ... Show more

The plants that grow in saline soils have diverse ionic compositions and a range in concentrations of
dissolved salts (Volkmar et al., 1998). These concentrations fluctuate because of changes in water
source, drainage, evapo transpiration, and solute availability (Volkmar et al., 1998). Due to these
varying conditions, plant growth depends on a supply of inorganic nutrients, and this level of nutrients
varies in time and space (Maathius and Amtmann, 1999). Either extreme condition concerning
nutrients results in deficiency or toxicity in plants, and this is demonstrated by salt tolerance
(Maathius and Amtmann, 1999). These conditions vary according to the plant species and growth
conditions. Little is known about the genetic basis for diversity of salt tolerance in plants, and this
could be partly explained through the definitions given for salinity.
Plants in natural environments are being exposed to increasing amounts of salinity. One third of the
land being irrigated worldwide is affected by salinity, but salinity also occurs in non irrigated land
(Allen et al., 1994). There are large areas of primary salinity, but secondary salinity can be detected
within one hundred years of settlement on an area of land. Drought and salinity are connected because
in many regions, raising plants requires irrigation. The irrigation water contains calcium, magnesium,
and sodium (Serrano et al., 1999). As the water evaporates and transpires, calcium and magnesium

The Environmental Lobby and Voting Trends in the United States
The environmental movement in the United States has typically focused its resources on public
education, legislative lobbying and litigation. However, the movement s success in the latter two is
highly dependent on the quality and character of elected officials. Successful public education on
behalf of the environment translates into greater environmentalist electoral success.
This paper discusses national trends that impact and influence the environmental lobby s ability to
achieve favorable electoral results, and the manner in which the lobby has responded to those trends.
Overall, the American public is receptive to environmentalism, but the political realm is ... Show more

From 1988 to 1992 40 50% of strong Republicans supported increased federal spending on the
environment, while the vast majority of the remaining strong Republicans supported the status quo.
After 1994, independent leaning Republicans and weak Republicans increased their support for
decreased environmental spending by roughly 10 percentage points each, bringing each group to 12
13% support for decreased spending. Strong Republicans, however, moved from about 2 8% to
roughly 23% support for decreased environmental spending. Again, these changes indicate the highly
partisan nature of support for decreased environmental spending. The Republican Revolution of 1994
brought a much more Conservative flavor to the Republican Party. Strong Republicans would be more
likely to toe the party line on issues like environmental spending, and post 1994, the Republican Party
line was arguably more anti environmentalist. This willingness among strong Republicans to carry the
party line on environmental issues may be partly responsible for the widening gap between some
groups of traditional Republicans.
Republicans showed their strongest support for environmental spending in 1988, the year after
President Reagan signed the Montreal Protocol. Here again, a sign that strong Republicans may be
following party cues more than individual preferences on environmental issues. The nation as a whole
was more supportive of environmental spending in 1988 than in most years, but even strong

Causes Of The American Revolution
The American Revolution is also famous as US independence war or the Revolutionary War. The
disagreement arose from rising stress between inhabitants of Great Britain s 13 North American
colonies and the regal government, which symbolizes the British crown. Skirmishes between British
crowds and regal militiamen in Lexington and Concord in 1775 kicked off the armed clash, and by the
subsequent summer, the radicals were shaking a full scale conflict for their independence. France goes
into the American Revolution on the side of the migrant in 1778, rotating what had fundamentally
been a civil war into global conflict. After French aid helped the Army strength the British admit
defeat at Virginia, in 1781, the Americans had efficiently won their self government, though warfare
would not formally stop in anticipation of 1783 (Adams, G.B).
Land Campaigns To 1778
Americans fought the war ashore with fundamentally two sorts of affiliation: the Army and the state
nonmilitary personnel armed forces. The total number of the past gave by partitions from the states all
through the conflict was 231,771 men, and the non military personnel armed forces 164,087. At any
given time, the American every at the present and next 20000 there were purely 29,000 radicals under

Character Analysis Of Buster Keaton s Sherlock Jr
In Sherlock Jr, demonstrate a man which is a movie projectionist frustrated in love because the object
of his affections is attracted to a dishonest rival. Sherlock Jr is also an aspiring detective, and when the
girl s father s pocket watch disappears he tries to take charge of the situation. But the rival contrives to
make him look like the culprit. While projecting a show about two lovers and a similar domestic
crime, Sherlock experiences a bizarre daydream of entering the world of the movie. Buster Keaton
introduces a man who is trying to impress a girl by giving her a ring. There are certain things in the
scene that makes it part of the plot; such as the ring and the reaction to it, the framing, and acting.

After the close up; which appear in a second minute shot, it goes back to the medium shot to have the
same scenery before the close up. The close up is interpreted when the director wants to have a better
vision for the audience to see the ring that Sherlock Jr gives to the girl. Thus, the audience attentive
the importance of the object to the main characters.
Further, he uses a close up of the ring to show excitement and anxiety of the scene. As I mentioned,
the close up of the scene is important because it s a demonstration of a better perspective of the ring.
The excitement in a way the girl wants to know what is inside the ring, and the feeling of wearing it.
The anxiety of being nervous at the same time.
In addition, the setting happens in the girl s house which is middle class. In my perspective, the
director chooses this setting to emphasize the events yet to come, and it is where the plot begins to
form. For example, its fashion, and the quality of the furniture made it seem to have the feeling of a
middle class house. Thus, the setting of the house presents the major events of the film overall. Keaton
uses the actor s facial expressions, framing to build the excitement and anxiety of the scene. He uses
acting to express their facial expressions to demonstrate emotions by showing excitement and
disappointment while giving a ring, and anxiety in both characters. The close up of the ring illustrates

Presidential Research Paper
President Harry S. Truman wasn t only just a president, he was a US army soldier, a democratic
senator, presiding judge, and a vice president. Before his presidency, he fought in World War 1.
Recapping his roles before the presidency, once the war ended, Truman got discharged from the army
and then went to attend Kansas City school of law. This is when he was on the road to becoming
president. In 1933 Franklin d Roosevelt was elected 32nd president. Harry S. got elected presiding
judge of the Jackson County Court and then was sworn in. He served two four year terms through
1934 as a judge. During this time Harry Truman became a U.S. senator by 1935. On August 31, 1944
Truman commences his vice presidential campaign from where he was born Lamar, Missouri. Shortly
afterwards, Truman was elected vice president on November 7 of the same year.
Following the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry Truman was sworn in as thirty third president of
the United States of America on April 12, 1945. A day after Germany surrendered to the Allies,
Truman called for the end of the war in Europe; this is known as V E Day, aka Victory in Europe Day.
This is now a public holiday celebrated on May 8th 1945. World War II (1939 19455) had been going
on before Truman got into office as president. Although he wasn t in office when it started, he had
been in office when it ended. August 6, 1945 was the day Truman called for

Dual Diagnosis: Combating Drug Addiction and Mental Illness
Through the Creation of Government Assisted Programs
Drug addiction and mental illness are two topics that are becoming more popular for discussion in
American households. As stated from DrugAbuse.com, mental illness is common amongst a
population suffering from substance abuse and addiction. The relationship is so strong that many
people believe the drugs play a causative role in the development of the mental illness. In most
instances, this is not the case. In the United States, approximately 8.9 million people have both a
mental health and a substance abuse issue . This overwhelming amount of the United States

Comorbidity describes two or more disorders or illnesses occurring in the same person.
Summary:
Many Americans are given this dual diagnosis of mental illness and drug addiction and it seems to be
rapidly increasing. The federal and state governments are responsible for the citizen s well being and
they must create more programs and assistance in order to treat more than one diagnosis. As well with

search for webpages or organisations that discussed what stress was and how it affected the body. I
particularly focused on sources that would be knowledgeable in psychology to some extent to ensure
that the sources I used were as reliable and credible as possible. The first webpage that I looked at was
Simply Psychology s What is the Stress Response article by Saul McLeod, which I found to be very
helpful and well summarised. I recorded notes on what was said on this source and annotated it. To
follow up, I again, used the Simply Psychology search engine to find what information they had on

The final thing I found information for was the advantages and disadvantages of the specific emotion
focused coping strategies discussed. In doing this, I found a source about meditation on About Health
titled Benefits of Meditation for Stress Management, which was very helpful in explaining how
meditation reduces stress and it s pros and cons. Unfortunately, I could not find any specific
techniques of problem focused coping strategies even with the further research conducted today, and
thus, decided to use the general pros and cons mentioned in previous sources.
18th September 2015 Today I collated all the notes that I had gathered and organised them into
paragraphs and the order in which I want to present it in my folio.
19th September 2015 After collating my notes from the sources yesterday, I began my paragraph on

The Taxation Of Pensions Act Essay
Pension Freedom Introduction and Background The Taxation of Pensions Act was brought in on 14th
October in 2014 and came into force on 6th April 2015. This was designed to provide members new
ways to flexibly access their pension funds. Personal pension policy holders can now if they so decide
can now withdraw the full fund value of their pension fund at one time (there may be an income tax
liability), or to purchase an annuity . Members who are in Defined Benefit (DB) and Occupational
Money Purchase (OMP) will also now have an option to transfer their pensions into a Flexible Access
Pension (FAD) . A full transfer value analysis (TVAS) will need to be completed for DB scheme
members who are considering taking advantage of the new rules to ensure that they are fully aware of
all factors of whether to transfer away from a DB scheme to a FAD including any guaranteed benefits
that they may lose. This paper will critically evaluate some of the reasons a member may consider a
transfer to a (FAD) and the factors they should be aware of when considering their pension
crystallisation options Reason for Transfer There are a number of reasons that DB and OMP members
to consider a transfer to a FAD eg: scheme wind up, divorce or specific financial planning reason as
disclosed utilising a TVAS. The FCA issued advice and guidance in 2014 and 2015 that Financial
Advice Firms have not been obtaining sufficient evidence for recommending a transfer from a DB

Deviance Essay
Deviance is what is considered a violation of cultural norms, and is something that is frowned upon
due to social norms. Society attempts to regulate people s thoughts and behaviors for social control.
There is a huge connection between the two because deviance varies with cultural norms, people
become deviant when others define them as such and both norms and the definition given involve
social power. Lets take the example of Brent Staple; new to New York, and was a graduate student
who had been an avid nightwalker. Mr. Staples became painfully aware that society had seen him as
deviant, because when they looked at him all they saw was a black man wearing bulky clothes late at
night walking around ready to attack someone. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So to sum that all up categories, labels and boundary lines are constructed so that social groups can
maintain a norm and they believe allows for a functioning society. You have racially motivated deviant
boundary lines so that social groups can segregate themselves from others to have power over each
other. So why do social groups label and categorize people as deviant based off of race? Labeling
someone as deviant because of race is away for society to try and strengthening themselves as racially
segregated groups. For example if a group of whites label a group of blacks as outcasts or deviants it
gives them social control and power. Another reason why social groups construct boundary lines,
labels and categorizes is because that is their way of keeping society functioning and keeping people
within the norms of what we know as normal and abnormal. If society cannot outcast people then we
have no hierarchy and no power. With Brent Staples he was feeling as an outsider, seeing fear from
people because of his race, his gender, his clothing as well as the fact he was out late walking around.
In my opinion society is taking away his power of freedom to be comfortable doing what many other
people were doing at night walking around, they took away his power to feel whole as an individual.
All of these factors gave the people around him the idea that he was something to be feared. It made
him feel that he needed to change, to conform to society so he would not be

Characteristics Of Beowulf A Modern Day Hero
Heroes have been known widely for their non violent ways, their act of kindness, and helping people
because it s the right thing to do (and not for fame). A modern day hero usually shows these types of
acts. However, an Anglo Saxon hero shows some of the opposite traits, including violence. Beowulf is
one of a good example of an Anglo Saxon hero. However, Beowulf shouldn t be considered as a
modern day hero today because he had different super abilities that a normal person doesn t have, he
uses the acts of violence, and he s really boastful about himself. Beowulf wouldn t be considered a
modern day hero because he uses the acts of violence. Although his acts of violence would be
considered heroic in Anglo Saxon times because of his bravery by defeating many monsters including
Grendel, Grendel s Mom, and The Fire Dragon. Modern day heroes are also able to show bravery
using their non violent ways. For example, Leslie Morissette was inspired by how her son Graham
(who died at an early age) lived his life caring for others. Morissette founded the nonprofit
Grahamtastic Connection in his honor. The organization provided free technology that includes
computers, iPads, and robots to children battling cancer and other serious illnesses. Since 1998, the
group had helped nearly 1,500 children to stay connected to the outside world and continued their
education. Morissette didn t use any violence and showed bravery and to help nearly 1,500 children to

Relationship Between Fertility Rates and Education...
Introduction
It has come to our attention that in developed countries the birth rate has been decreasing with the
years. This trend is however not limited to developed countries but is also present in emerging
countries, like Mexico. One of the main reasons for this decline is said to be the postponement of
marriage among young people. Obtaining a higher education could lead young women to remain
unmarried in their twenties. Increasing possibilities to achieve a higher education and therefore
working in an appealing job has become increasingly attractive to young women. This change in
values also contributed to the increase in unmarried singles in their twenties. However, it is also
possible that the influence of one s family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rates above two children indicate populations are growing in size and the median age is declining.
Higher rates may also indicate difficulties for families, in some situations, to feed and educate their
children and for women to enter the labor force. Rates below two children indicate populations are
decreasing in size and growing older. Global fertility rates are in general declining and this trend is
mostly predominant in industrialized countries, especially Western Europe, where populations are
projected to decline dramatically over the next 50 years.
Description of the Procedures Used
The purpose of this section is to describe the course of action of the study and to specify the steps
taken.
In order to answer the research question in an appropriate way, it was first needed to do intensive
research in the internet in order to obtain relevant data. The pages consulted were INEGI and Index
Mundi. On these pages it was possible to collect data regarding the birth rate, the fertility rate and the
level of education. The next step was to convert the data into tables and graphs, describe them and to
provide some background information in order to make the data clearer. Furthermore, one can already
see at first sight how the fertility rate and level of education are developing at first sight.
In order to tackle the question (Whether there is a relation between the increase in the level of
education and the decline in the

As many organizations have or seek to establish a global footprint, it is imperative that they establish a
written code of ethics that clearly lays out what the company stands for as well as enforce it. This is
required as it will establish the acceptable behaviors for those that fall under the code of ethics. Taking
the time to develop this is key to successful interactions with internal and external shareholders as

With the implementation of an ethics program as well as the checks and balances process, unethical
behavior can be greatly reduced. This will reduce ethical violations such as what was termed robo

The Work At Home Policy
Introduction
Every code of companies have the pros and cons, so does work at home policy which KGDV was
trying to introduce. Whether the company decided to expand work at home policy at fast speed or
slow down the expansion, the side effects caused by the policy that may bring about high moral
hazard in the company would become most likely apparent in the long run and should be observed. In
order to demonstrate appropriate proposals for the problem, the essay will first outline two issues of
the programme. Then, how to build up trusts and encourage workers to communicate to minimize the
side effects from the aspect of leadership theories will be carefully argued. Finally, a summary of
proposals will be shown.
Two Side effects of the policy
There are two side effect issues that should be considered. Firstly Social deprivation is harmful
especially for KPO consulting firms such as KGDV because the projects which the company
undertook the offers of are basically allocated to teams and professional knowledge and numerous
information related to projects must be informed well among all the members of the team. As quoted
by Susanne Braun that nowadays, organizations predominantly team based structures require leaders
to lead and motivate not only individuals but also teams as a whole (2007, quoted in Braun, Peus,
Weisweiler, and Frey, 2013, p.270), how leaders of teams behave with members of the teams is one of
the great factors to maintain the company s high morale. Secondly,

Feudalism And The Feudal System
Knights and kings are the first thing that many people think of regarding medieval times. However,
the system was quite different and was called feudalism. Feudalism was a system that helped the king
keep control of his kingdom and be able to protect his country. The feudal system was divided into
four levels, and began around 900 A.D. and ended around 1400 A.D. Feudalism began in England
when the Romans, who were in control of the people, left and the country became unstable. The
Germanic tribes who inhabited the territory were constantly having civil wars, and had many
problems. To solve that problem, and to develop a system of to defend their country, they developed
feudalism as a form of government (Britton). Feudalism was a socio political hierarchy that had four
different ranks. This was a very simplistic and logical form of government (Bishop 95). It was a fairly
weak form of government because it was mainly established by trust in between the kings and the
barons (Bishop 97). Feudalism was prominent in Europe for many years, and it ended around 1400
A.D. due to kings becoming more powerful. The kings were able to protect themselves without having
barons because of the technology of guns. Also, the printing machine and better education made it
easier for the king to manage his land without the barons and knights. The Black Death in the mid
14th century also played a big role in the fall of feudalism because many of the serfs died, making it
harder for the knights

Hundred Years War Research Paper
Imagine 55 battles with 3.5 million losses lasting 116 years. This is the story behind the Hundred
Years War, an extensive struggle between England and France over succession to the French throne
between 1337 and 1453. The war commences firstly with a conflict over the status of the duchy of
Guyenne which belonged to England yet it was a fief of the French crown. Secondly, the closest
relatives of the last direct Capetian King Charles IV had claimed the crown of France which was to be
challenged. The French Kings had possessed the financial and military resources of the most
populated and influential state in Western Europe. This resulted into several victories over larger
French forces. The first major engagement of the Hundred Years War was the Battle of Crécy. Edward
III landed in Normandy in the year 1346. He decided to stop near Crecy in Normandy and to prepare
for battle the next day. However, the French frontline made contact and started to attack without a set
plan. The French made several attacks and the English checked each one in turn, mostly because of
the English longbowmen. This led to a decisive victory for England. In 1360, King John of France
was required to accept the Treaty of Calais in order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After over 80 years of warfare the French finally gained the upper hand with the decisive victory at
Orleans. During this period, Charles of France allows Joan of Arc to lead a force. A month later, Joan
of Arc attacks the English in unison with a force from Orleans, driving the English from their
positions. The next day they abandon the siege. The military advantage goes to the French. The siege
of Orleans was lifted in 1429, allowing Paris and the lle de France to be liberated between 1436 1441.
The French army had been reorganized. Charles of France recaptures the duchy of Normandy in the

The Three Levels Of Organizational Culture
Organizational Culture is an anthropological term that refers to the values, belief, norms and ways of
doing things that are shared by the organizational members (Knights and Willmott, 2012). While

Lies In The United States
Cheating, lying and breaking promises is what we Americans are used to hearing and seeing from
what we see on the TV or hear on the news. How can we have an honest workflow, when big
companies are stealing from others and lying just to make more money without anyone knowing?
How can we trust in the government, when they lie about many things from us and feel the need to
keep secrets from us? From my viewpoint, I believe that we live in a world where cheating, and lying
is normal because everything we look or hear on the news, TV, and celebrities are fake, are being
someone there not, or making us want to follow their trend. News are always putting lies in between
the truth, just to make the stories more interesting. So, what can we believe ... Show more content on

The Brown Auto Company Essay
The Brown Auto Company At the Brown Auto Company, the two partners divided the operational
responsibilities. Robert performed the duties of the primary salesman and the chief mechanic whereas
his brother, Harry, more commonly called Skin, ran the office. The Ford Motor Company shipped
each Model T, colloquially nicknamed the Tin Lizzie, into Bradley on the Chicago, Milwaukee, St.
Paul Railroad only partially assembled. Since the body, frame, engine, wheels, doors, and windows,
each came as parts; the brothers completed the assembly on the rail siding before driving them to the
garage. The Brown Auto Company, which used Bradley s Fourth of July parade to advertise their
product, on at least one occasion, obtained assistance from Robert s multi talented wife, Bessie, for the
design and construction of a float. Using Ford s colors, Bessie decorated the float, which featured a
Model T on a flatbed truck, by sewing many strips of crêpe together to create a huge blue and white
hoop skirt around the car. The float prominently displayed Ford s motto, Henry s Made a Lady out of
Lizzie. Selling cars sometimes required overcoming unique challenges. The owner of Carson s Ranch,
Lloyd Carson, held a contest to determine if he would buy a Ford or a Chevrolet. A Model T from the
Brown Auto Company driven by Robert Brown competed against a Chevrolet from a dealership in
Watertown, South Dakota. Mr. Carson had a long driveway that went around a slough before it

Controlling Cell Fate in Zebrafish
Over the past years, there have been many conflicting views over weather or not rest has an effect on
controlling cell fate. There has been previous studies that have indicated that the rest gene influences
gene expression. Researchers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook have taken it upon
themselves to determine if it is in fact true. By using methods like zinc finger nuclease and
quantitative PCR, they were able to find reliable evidence that: rest in zebrafish does have an
influencing affect on neural specific gene expression but it fails to have many significant effects on
zebrafish neurogenesis. First of all, lets look at why exactly scientists choose to work on zebrafish.
Zebrafish was chosen by George Streisinger who was looking for a vertebrae model system to do
work on genetics. It would appear that zebrasfish have some qualities that particularly makes them an
exceptional choice for study. They are easy to maintain, manipulate (ability to microinject DNA, RNA
and proteins into) and have many offspring rather rapidly. Another really interesting quality of
zebrafish is that in the first few days of embryonic development, embryons are transparent, which
allows imaging of cell movement and gene expression. Embryos also develop rather quickly; therefore
scientists could do testing sooner then would be capable if mammals were used. Now lets look at what
exactly is the rest protein. From what research has determined previously, we believe the rest

How Does Golding Use The Power In Lord Of The Flies
Do you think if you were in a situation where you were immovable and stranded on an island, that you
d become savage? Would you stick by the laws and stay civilized? Even if you were as proper as the
queen? I believe that people in general, would become savages or just do anything in their power to
survive. Simon was one of the boys who were on the island with the boys and he was on a mission to
give news to the others, the boys were dancing around and eating, they thought Simon was the beast
and killed him. The boys were so crazy, that they turned savage just to survive, and that Simon was
assassinated by the boys in Jack s tribe and the others because they were afraid it was the beast. In
chapter 9 of Lord of the Flies, William Golding employs symbolism, natural imagery, and animal
imagery to convey the theme that the need for power can cause people to abuse their power and break

Rascal Flatts Identity
In the memorable way that country band Rascal Flatts puts it, Life s like a road that you travel on,
there s one day here and the next day gone. Life Is a Highway. As we all know, there s an entrance and
an exit point to every highway. Much like a highway, our lives have a beginning and an end. Similarly,
the structure of the letter I has a start and a finish. At a closer glance the alphabet holds more purpose
than for just simply reading and writing. Perhaps simplistic letters hold an unknown truth about the
world around us.
Who am I? Who are you? As a person, we are labeled by our identity. According to
Dictionary.reference.com the word identity is defined as condition or character as to who a person or
what a thing is. Distinctive traits give personality to individuals. As people living in society, we tend

Ignorance. Lack of knowledge or information. A negative attitude about another race or religion is an
example of ignorance. Let that also rest.
Adolf Hitler s selfish and ignorant way of thinking led to a series of mass destruction, war, and grief.
War and grief suggests injustice. So does poverty, starvation, racism, and abuse. Although the United
States of America is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, one in five children in the U.S. live

not necessary, not innate, nor is it desirable.

The Culture Of Asian American And Being Labeled As An Ethnic
Preface
In this essay, I attempted to lay bare the issues of being an Asian American and being labeled as an
ethnic other in modern America. This label of other causes them to become marginalized and lose
their sense of identity, belonging neither to Western culture nor Eastern culture. In order help stop this
loss of identity in Asian Americans, we must tear down the social construct of the other and integrate
the different cultures into the melting pot of popular culture. Once we have stopped alienating
different cultures, we can then have a moral society that upholds diversity and identity.
The Struggles of the Other
The apparent dominance of White Europeans in America results in a common set of values, beliefs,
and norms that are endorsed by Whites, leading to an America whose vision is filtered through the
lens of the White European perspective. This established vision and power creates the social construct
of the ethnic other. As an ethnic other in America, my analysis incorporates my personal experiences
and the experiences of those around me. In a nation that has a population so diverse in personal and
collective identities, problems regarding morality and culture can arise. In the America of the past and
present, the norm by which all are measured against is that of a heterosexual White European. This
norm creates a conflict with the marginalized groups who wish to gain acceptance by and into the
dominant culture, but are not allowed to do so due to their

Everyone who used the web undoubtedly have seen URL as a sight word in the internet world, and
also have used URLs to get web pages and access websites. Actually, most of people term URL as
website address habitually and think of an URL as the name of a file on the World Wide Web. If we
consider the web world as the same as the real world, then URL would be the very unique physical
address of every build on the earth that helps people to locate the accurate place. However, it is not the
entire understanding of URL. URLs could also lead to other resources on the web, such as databases

Define URL:
According to the definition of Wikipedia, URL is an acronym for Uniform Resource Locator and is a
reference (an address) to a resource that specifies its location on a computer network and a mechanism
for retrieving it on the Internet.
Generally, an URL has two major components: the first part Protocol Identifier and the second part
Resource name . The Protocol Identifier represents the name of the protocol to be used to achieve the

typically used to serve up hypertext documents, there are many different protocols used to access

Heinlein s world is one in which I daresay not many people would like to live where suicide might

Abstract
Much like the telephone or the automobile, the internet has dramatically changed the way people work
and live. Unlike the telephone or the automobile, though, the internet has single handedly led to the
creation of a relatively free space, where people around the world gather to share ideas, collaborate,
mingle, and invent a future with new possibilities that no one knew they needed today. From its
humble beginning as a relatively inexpensive lab project aimed at improving workflows to its rise
against tyranny in world affairs, a worldwide obsession with the internet has gone viral and will likely
sweep non discriminatorily to all parts of the globe. As this loosely regulated environment, also known
as Cyberspace, the Net or the Web , matures; it is the civic duty of its users to ensure that the door to
the information gateway remains open and accessible as it continues to disrupt all industry and
influence all aspects of human conditions. Introduction
The worldwide use of the internet is practically indispensible. Yet, its origin only dates back to the
early 1950s. No invention in history has grown so fast to touch so many lives. In fact, neither the
telephone nor the automobile nor the printing press has the impact of the internet on the human
civilization as a

Essay The Foolishness of Fools in Shakespeare s King Lear
The Foolishness of Fools in Shakespeare s King Lear
Shakespeare s tragedy King Lear is comprised of many distinct themes. His contrasts of light and
dark, good and evil, and his brilliant illustration of parallels between the foolishness of the play s
characters and society allowed him to craft a masterpiece. Just as well, Shakespeare s dynamic use of
linguistic techniques such as pun and irony aid this illustration of the perfect microcosm, not only of
16th century Britain, but of all times and places. By far the theme that best allowed the furthering of
this superb contrast between Victorian England and Lear s own defined world is Shakespeare s
discussion of fools and their foolishness. This discussion allows Shakespeare to not ... Show more

It also illustrates the bastard s mistaken belief that by fooling his father, he might be able to eliminate
his competition for Gloucester s title, Edgar, and possibly rid himself of his father in the same token.
This is a prime example of literal foolishness in King Lear, and Edmund is an excellent example of a
literal fool, both in his beliefs and his actions...both of which are foolishly evil.
Another prime example of literal foolishness can be found in the foil characters of Regan and Goneril,
the daughters of the King. These two women, much like Edmund, find foolishness in evil thoughts and
evil deeds. As they plot to usurp Lear s power, their foolishness is illustrated in their single minded
decisions. Goneril states to Lear, Sir, I love you more than word can wield the matter... in her insidious
attempts to gain her father s land (I, i, 11). This is obviously a lie, as the audience can very well see.
And it clearly illustrates her foolishness. Not to be outdone, however, Regan endeavors to use the
same method in the theft of power from her father s hands. She attests that Goneril has named her very
deed of love but that...ironically once again, she comes too short. (I, i, 11) perhaps in this respect,
Shakespeare was attempting to draw a parallel between Lear s daughter s, Edmund, and society. He
appears to be attempting Another type of fool in King Lear is the ignorant fool. Whereas characters

Benefit Of The Columbian Exchange
This essay will explore whether the old world or the Americas benefitted more from the Columbian
exchange. The Columbian exchange was the transfer of plants, animals, ideas and more between the
Americas and the old world during the 15th and 16th century. This essay will first talk about the
slavery that happened during the Columbian exchange. Secondly the deaths that were caused by the
transfer of diseases through the Columbian exchange. Lastly how the exchange of foods through the
Columbian exchange lead to an agricultural revolution.
Body
During the Columbian exchange when Europeans went to explore, create colonies and conquer land,
native Americans would often be captured as slaves and exported back to Europe. For example, after
Pizarro won the battle against the Incas, Pizarro captured the rest of the Incas as slaves. Europeans
would also go to America to find goods such as gold and silver or wealth in general. The Europeans
then found wealth in Slavery. By the 15th century slavery was well established and became very
popular. On his second expedition to the Americas in 1493, Christopher Columbus enslaved over 500
Native Americans and sent them to Spain. (American Indians as Slaves). These slaves were often used
to cultivate tobacco and were over worked (Slavery among Native Americans in the United States).
The old world benefitted more than the Americas in this case. The Americans were harshly treated and
were stripped of rights as slaves while the old world used

Analysis Of Ram Charan s New York Times Bestseller,...
Strategic implementation is the process that turns strategies and plans into actions in order to
accomplish strategic objectives and goals. It should be considered the blueprint for realizing the
organization s vision. The success of any strategy is solely dependent upon the effectiveness of its
implementation and execution. Ram Charan s New York Times bestseller, Execution: The Discipline
of Getting Things Done, refers to implementation and execution of strategy as a systematic way of
exposing reality and acting on it. The framework for successful implementation includes building an
organization capable of executing strategy, proper resource allocation, support policies, continuous
improvement, performance based incentives, and strategic leadership. KaBloom founder, David
Hartstein, provided a sound strategy to realize his vision, however flaws in various elements of
implementation led to continued problems for KaBloom. Executing the Vision As we learned in
Section 3: Strategy Formulation, KaBloom sought to employ a differentiation strategy in effort to
create a competitive edge. They created brand recognition and a niche within the market through
visual differentiation, low cost, and product variety. Eye catching stores, strategically located in high
traffic areas, drew customers into the serene garden like atmosphere with flowers cascading onto the
storefront sidewalk. Their brand recognition was created through this concept of store design, which

Introduction In this unit we have conducted research and experiments on our chosen reactions to
create the highest exothermic reaction for the The Heat and Eat meal pack will use a chemical reaction
that involves two reactants. Reactant 1 is a solid and Reactant 2 is a liquid. The solid reactant will be
in a chamber next to the button. The button is pushed to start the reaction by removing the barrier
between the solid and liquid reactants. The reaction should produce heat for at least 5 8 minutes. This
will allow the meal to absorb the heat and be ready to eat within 10 minutes of the diner starting the
reaction. The Non Magnesium Flameless Ration Heater TM (FRH) is targeted for use in military
operational ration packs and Hot Pack/Action Pack self heating meals. single case can provide
nutritional variety, critical in crisis situations where appetite may be suppressed by stress or emotional
trauma. The entrée is ready in just 10 minutes by using the self heating unit. Aim and Hypothesis Aim:
To plan, conduct, evaluate and report on an investigation of chemical changes, and make
recommendations for their use as an energy source in Heat and Eat meal packs. Hypothesis: Reaction

Teenage Pregnancy Teenage Pregnancy when a young female conceives a child and is under the age of
20 by the end of the pregnancy period. How do these young girls cope with pregnancy at such a young
age? Pregnant teens may be worried about how to tell their family and what everybody else will think
about the situation. They In my paper I am going to talk about the risk factors, causes, choices of what
to do with the child, health risks for an infant of a teenage mother, and the effects it puts on the
teenager with her education, careers, opportunities, and relationships. At the end of my paper I hope to
have gave more detail about teenage pregnancy. For parents of teenage girls, concerns about
pregnancy are common. There is good reason for concern as at current rates about one third of teen
girls will become pregnant (Rudlin para 1). There are many risk factors that can be associated with the
pregnancy. These can have anything to do with family, peers, community/culture, or their own
individual self. It helps to know the risk factors that can increase the likelihood of a teen becoming
pregnant. Some factors that have to do with family can be lack of parental supervision or lack of
positive family interaction. Peer factors are dealing with friends that are sexually active or dealing
with sexual pressure from peers. Some community/culture risk factors that increase the chance of teen
pregnancy are high

The Pearl Of Great Price By Joseph Smith Jr.
Joseph Smith Jr. was born in Sharon, Vermont on December 23, 1805. Smith was characterized as
being literate, but far from well educated. His family s rough existence led them across Vermont and
eventually to Rochester, New York. It was here, in the spring of 1820, that Joseph Smith retired to a
secluded grove of trees behind his house and said a prayer for guidance about whether to join the
Presbyterians as his mother demanded, or whether to join the credo of the Baptists, take up the faith of
the Methodists, or follow some other of the contending sects within Christianity at the time. It was
here Joseph Smith claimed to receive his first of many visions. Smith claimed that God and Jesus
Christ appeared before Joseph as separate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike the other standard works of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the revelations in
the Doctrine and Covenants were received in modern times by latter day prophets and therefore are
not translations of ancient documents. The last canonized revelation was a vision given in 1918 and
there are also tow official declarations the abolishment of polygamy in 1890 and the extension of the
priesthood to all races in 1978. The Pearl of Great Price was penned by Joseph Smith, is deemed
inspired, and consists of several books and 13 articles of faith. These books include the book of Moses
(a revision of parts of Genesis), the Book of Abraham, The Book of Joseph Smith Matthew (a revision
of Matthew 24) and the book of Joseph Smith History (his testimony to the church). The completion
of The Book of Mormon, proved to be the most important and significant act that Joseph Smith
contributed to his church and organization. The Book of Mormon served as a new doctrine and
guideline of Christ s restored church, with which to believe and abide by. This served to his new
Mormon congregation building the early religious foundation for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints stating the highly important concept of an open cannon doctrine, established belief of
divine revelation. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints categorizes their concept of divine
revelation into two categories; Revelation to the Church and Personal

Discussion of State Sovereignty and Globalization
This paper aims to discuss the rather amorphous concepts of state sovereignty and Globalization and
how the notion of sovereignty has been diluted over the years by this phenomenon of globalization. To
narrow down the analysis this paper will consider the dilution of sovereignty under the light of a
primary force of globalization; Transnational Corporations. With the birth of the state, the concept of
sovereignty originated. This included both internal and external sovereignty; however, the latter was
recognized much later after the end of the Thirty Years War and the signing of the Treaty of
Westphalia. Internal Sovereignty was defined as the ability to exercise control and authority within the
territorial boundaries of the state. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The company was seeking policy favors, legal concessions and maximizing its profits while the
dictators required foreign direct investment, economic development and enhancement of personal
wealth through grafts and underhand dealings. The relationship worked well till 1944 when as a result
of free elections the paradigm changed and a democratic dispensation was ushered in under President
Juan Arevalo succeeded by Jacobo Arbenz in 1951 elections. The democratic government of Arevalo
had an altogether different mindset. Both Arevalo and his successor Arbenz started on a path of
progressively reforming the society.
A comprehensive program for social uplift of the Guatemalan people was charted out. Its major focus
was on equitable distribution of national income, allowing civil liberties, empowering people and most
importantly attempting to reduce the monopolistic control of different sectors of the economy by
United Fruits Company. President Arbenz started planning to create a parallel railway network which
was to provide cheap accessibility and transportation to the people. He also planned another port on
the Atlantic to be run under the government control and building a hydro electric plant providing
cheap electricity in competition with the one made by the Americans. The prime point of conflict,
however, arose when the Arbenz government decided to implement agrarian reforms in the country. It
was aimed at buying and redistributing unused land to

  • 2. Sustainable Economic Growth And The Success Of A Country Abstract Last few decades we have seen a changing notion of what constitutes a successful nation. According to the old school approach, sustainable economic growth is primarily seen as the best way to make a successful country . There are a few questions that arise as to what factors contribute to the success of a country. Is sustainable economic growth the best way to get there? A country comprises of its citizens and the two most important components contributing to the success of a country are the health and happiness of its citizens. Wealth becomes an important aspect only in a manner where it encourages greater well being of the citizens. Another aspect that we need to consider is that of sustainable well being. The term means maintaining a balance between environment sustainability and well being. Thus, countries must provide well being within environmental limits. Economic growth as measured by gross domestic product doesn t really tell us much about citizens general well being. Here we will be discussing about the change in approach towards what we consider a successful nation today. Acknowledgement The term paper on THE CHANGING NOTION OF WHAT CONSTITUTES A SUCCESSFUL NATION has been given to me as a part of partial fulfillment of requirements for award of degree of Bachelor of Arts in economics. • 3. Cloud Of Unknowing Vs. The Book Of Margery Kempe Religion in the Middle Ages takes on a character all of its own as it is lived out differently in the lives of medieval men and women spanning from ordinary laity to vehement devotees. Though it is difficult to identify what the average faith consists of in the Middle Ages, the life told of a radical devotee in The Book of Margery Kempe provides insight to the highly intense version of medieval paths of approaching Christ. Another medieval religious text, The Cloud of Unknowing, provides a record of approaching the same Christ. I will explore the consistencies and inconsistencies of both ways to approach Christ and religious fulfillment during the Middle Ages combined with the motivations to do so on the basis of both texts. A central ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pursuing such spiritual fulfillment is a responsibility not to be taken lightly. Often, literal commands of Jesus such as pilgrimages have two and three fold benefits. Besides the very physical connections with the sacred that they offer arriving at places of sacred history, pilgrimages are also a form of penance for sins. Because of the sacrifice of time, money, and risk to make these pilgrimages, best seen by Kempe s outrageous devotion in leaving behind her life and family for long periods of time, pilgrimages assist in erasing sins in ones life. Another reason that Margery and medieval Christians would embark on these pilgrimages is for the reverence of saints and their relics that they would visit. The Middle Ages emphasized an important connection to the lives of past saints believing that the saints still had power to intercede blessings into the lives of religious people on Earth. Where Margery is set a part from common laity, during her pilgrimage to Jerusalem she receives a special spiritual gift of cryings that she can not control when religious emotion comes over her. Describing these outbursts, the author of her autobiography says, The crying was so loud and so amazing that it astounded people... (Windeatt, 104). It is assumable that emotional experiences upon pilgrimages of either laity or monastics to such places as the Holy Land would be common, however that people were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Factors That Changed The World Clothing became less expensive in the 1960 s because of the Industrial Revolution, so more people are seen being involved in popular fashion trends and expressing themselves in ways they please because of the affordability. The sharply angled Vidal Sassoon hair style where women cut their hair shorter and styled it in an angular way. This decade also started the trend of people wanting to look skinnier. Designers preferred models looked younger, thinner, and had longer legs. Social factors occurring at the time also effected fashion and helped represent people s beliefs. André Courrège s came out with many new fashions that reflected America s involvement in the Space Race with Russia during that time and our achievement for having sent a person to the moon. This space age caused Courrège to come out with designs that resemble space suits which included: silver sequined pants, white plastic like boots, and white sunglasses with slits. Courrège also came out with a regular suit that had a geometrically cut jacket and angled collar which became a big hit. In the 1970 s, many fashions were inspired by the hippie look and many clothes were becoming handmade again. Hair was often worn long and straight or rolled into corkscrew curls and loose waves. Hot pants, tie dyed shirts, bell bottoms, and flared pants worn with platform shoes became a hit. • 6. Salinity Stress on Plants Essay examples Salinity Stress on Plants All plants are subjected to a multitude of stresses throughout their life cycle. Depending on the species of plant and the source of the stress, the plant will respond in different ways. When a certain tolerance level is reached, the plant will eventually die. When the plants in question are crop plants, then a problem arises. The two major environmental factors that currently reduce plant productivity are drought and salinity (Serrano, 1999), and these stresses cause similar reactions in plants due to water stress. These environmental concerns affect plants more than is commonly thought. For example, disease and insect loss typically decrease crop yields by less than ten percent, but severe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The plants that grow in saline soils have diverse ionic compositions and a range in concentrations of dissolved salts (Volkmar et al., 1998). These concentrations fluctuate because of changes in water source, drainage, evapo transpiration, and solute availability (Volkmar et al., 1998). Due to these varying conditions, plant growth depends on a supply of inorganic nutrients, and this level of nutrients varies in time and space (Maathius and Amtmann, 1999). Either extreme condition concerning nutrients results in deficiency or toxicity in plants, and this is demonstrated by salt tolerance (Maathius and Amtmann, 1999). These conditions vary according to the plant species and growth conditions. Little is known about the genetic basis for diversity of salt tolerance in plants, and this could be partly explained through the definitions given for salinity. Plants in natural environments are being exposed to increasing amounts of salinity. One third of the land being irrigated worldwide is affected by salinity, but salinity also occurs in non irrigated land (Allen et al., 1994). There are large areas of primary salinity, but secondary salinity can be detected within one hundred years of settlement on an area of land. Drought and salinity are connected because in many regions, raising plants requires irrigation. The irrigation water contains calcium, magnesium, and sodium (Serrano et al., 1999). As the water evaporates and transpires, calcium and magnesium ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Environmental Lobby and Voting Trends in the United States The environmental movement in the United States has typically focused its resources on public education, legislative lobbying and litigation. However, the movement s success in the latter two is highly dependent on the quality and character of elected officials. Successful public education on behalf of the environment translates into greater environmentalist electoral success. Strong Republicans, however, moved from about 2 8% to roughly 23% support for decreased environmental spending. Again, these changes indicate the highly partisan nature of support for decreased environmental spending. The Republican Revolution of 1994 brought a much more Conservative flavor to the Republican Party. Strong Republicans would be more likely to toe the party line on issues like environmental spending, and post 1994, the Republican Party line was arguably more anti environmentalist. This willingness among strong Republicans to carry the party line on environmental issues may be partly responsible for the widening gap between some groups of traditional Republicans. Republicans showed their strongest support for environmental spending in 1988, the year after President Reagan signed the Montreal Protocol. Here again, a sign that strong Republicans may be following party cues more than individual preferences on environmental issues. The nation as a whole was more supportive of environmental spending in 1988 than in most years, but even strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The disagreement arose from rising stress between inhabitants of Great Britain s 13 North American colonies and the regal government, which symbolizes the British crown. Skirmishes between British crowds and regal militiamen in Lexington and Concord in 1775 kicked off the armed clash, and by the subsequent summer, the radicals were shaking a full scale conflict for their independence. Thus, the audience attentive the importance of the object to the main characters. Further, he uses a close up of the ring to show excitement and anxiety of the scene. As I mentioned, the close up of the scene is important because it s a demonstration of a better perspective of the ring. The excitement in a way the girl wants to know what is inside the ring, and the feeling of wearing it. The anxiety of being nervous at the same time. In addition, the setting happens in the girl s house which is middle class. In my perspective, the director chooses this setting to emphasize the events yet to come, and it is where the plot begins to form. For example, its fashion, and the quality of the furniture made it seem to have the feeling of a middle class house. Thus, the setting of the house presents the major events of the film overall. Keaton uses the actor s facial expressions, framing to build the excitement and anxiety of the scene. He uses acting to express their facial expressions to demonstrate emotions by showing excitement and disappointment while giving a ring, and anxiety in both characters. • 14. Deviance Essay Deviance is what is considered a violation of cultural norms, and is something that is frowned upon due to social norms. Society attempts to regulate people s thoughts and behaviors for social control. There is a huge connection between the two because deviance varies with cultural norms, people become deviant when others define them as such and both norms and the definition given involve social power. Lets take the example of Brent Staple; new to New York, and was a graduate student who had been an avid nightwalker. Mr. Staples became painfully aware that society had seen him as deviant, because when they looked at him all they saw was a black man wearing bulky clothes late at night walking around ready to attack someone. So to sum that all up categories, labels and boundary lines are constructed so that social groups can maintain a norm and they believe allows for a functioning society. You have racially motivated deviant boundary lines so that social groups can segregate themselves from others to have power over each other. So why do social groups label and categorize people as deviant based off of race? Labeling someone as deviant because of race is away for society to try and strengthening themselves as racially segregated groups. For example if a group of whites label a group of blacks as outcasts or deviants it gives them social control and power. Another reason why social groups construct boundary lines, labels and categorizes is because that is their way of keeping society functioning and keeping people within the norms of what we know as normal and abnormal. If society cannot outcast people then we have no hierarchy and no power. With Brent Staples he was feeling as an outsider, seeing fear from people because of his race, his gender, his clothing as well as the fact he was out late walking around. In my opinion society is taking away his power of freedom to be comfortable doing what many other people were doing at night walking around, they took away his power to feel whole as an individual. All of these factors gave the people around him the idea that he was something to be feared. It made him feel that he needed to change, to conform to society so he would not be ... • 15. Characteristics Of Beowulf A Modern Day Hero Heroes have been known widely for their non violent ways, their act of kindness, and helping people because it s the right thing to do (and not for fame). A modern day hero usually shows these types of acts. However, an Anglo Saxon hero shows some of the opposite traits, including violence. Beowulf is one of a good example of an Anglo Saxon hero. However, Beowulf shouldn t be considered as a modern day hero today because he had different super abilities that a normal person doesn t have, he uses the acts of violence, and he s really boastful about himself. Beowulf wouldn t be considered a modern day hero because he uses the acts of violence. Although his acts of violence would be considered heroic in Anglo Saxon times because of his bravery by defeating many monsters including Grendel, Grendel s Mom, and The Fire Dragon. Modern day heroes are also able to show bravery using their non violent ways. For example, Leslie Morissette was inspired by how her son Graham (who died at an early age) lived his life caring for others. Morissette founded the nonprofit Grahamtastic Connection in his honor. The organization provided free technology that includes computers, iPads, and robots to children battling cancer and other serious illnesses. This trend is however not limited to developed countries but is also present in emerging countries, like Mexico. One of the main reasons for this decline is said to be the postponement of marriage among young people. Obtaining a higher education could lead young women to remain unmarried in their twenties. Increasing possibilities to achieve a higher education and therefore working in an appealing job has become increasingly attractive to young women. This change in values also contributed to the increase in unmarried singles in their twenties. However, it is also possible that the influence of one s family ... Then, how to build up trusts and encourage workers to communicate to minimize the side effects from the aspect of leadership theories will be carefully argued. Finally, a summary of proposals will be shown. Two Side effects of the policy There are two side effect issues that should be considered. Firstly Social deprivation is harmful especially for KPO consulting firms such as KGDV because the projects which the company undertook the offers of are basically allocated to teams and professional knowledge and numerous information related to projects must be informed well among all the members of the team. As quoted by Susanne Braun that nowadays, organizations predominantly team based structures require leaders to lead and motivate not only individuals but also teams as a whole (2007, quoted in Braun, Peus, Weisweiler, and Frey, 2013, p.270), how leaders of teams behave with members of the teams is one of the great factors to maintain the company s high morale. • 23. Feudalism And The Feudal System Knights and kings are the first thing that many people think of regarding medieval times. However, the system was quite different and was called feudalism. Feudalism was a system that helped the king keep control of his kingdom and be able to protect his country. The feudal system was divided into four levels, and began around 900 A.D. and ended around 1400 A.D. Feudalism began in England when the Romans, who were in control of the people, left and the country became unstable. The Germanic tribes who inhabited the territory were constantly having civil wars, and had many problems. To solve that problem, and to develop a system of to defend their country, they developed feudalism as a form of government (Britton). Feudalism was a socio political hierarchy that had four different ranks. This was a very simplistic and logical form of government (Bishop 95). It was a fairly weak form of government because it was mainly established by trust in between the kings and the barons (Bishop 97). Feudalism was prominent in Europe for many years, and it ended around 1400 A.D. due to kings becoming more powerful. The kings were able to protect themselves without having barons because of the technology of guns. Also, the printing machine and better education made it easier for the king to manage his land without the barons and knights. The Black Death in the mid 14th century also played a big role in the fall of feudalism because many of the serfs died, making it harder for the knights ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Hundred Years War Research Paper Imagine 55 battles with 3.5 million losses lasting 116 years. This is the story behind the Hundred Years War, an extensive struggle between England and France over succession to the French throne between 1337 and 1453. The war commences firstly with a conflict over the status of the duchy of Guyenne which belonged to England yet it was a fief of the French crown. Secondly, the closest relatives of the last direct Capetian King Charles IV had claimed the crown of France which was to be challenged. The French Kings had possessed the financial and military resources of the most populated and influential state in Western Europe. This resulted into several victories over larger French forces. The first major engagement of the Hundred Years War was the Battle of Crécy. Edward III landed in Normandy in the year 1346. He decided to stop near Crecy in Normandy and to prepare for battle the next day. However, the French frontline made contact and started to attack without a set plan. The French made several attacks and the English checked each one in turn, mostly because of the English longbowmen. This led to a decisive victory for England. • 27. The Brown Auto Company Essay The Brown Auto Company At the Brown Auto Company, the two partners divided the operational responsibilities. Robert performed the duties of the primary salesman and the chief mechanic whereas his brother, Harry, more commonly called Skin, ran the office. The Ford Motor Company shipped each Model T, colloquially nicknamed the Tin Lizzie, into Bradley on the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul Railroad only partially assembled. Since the body, frame, engine, wheels, doors, and windows, each came as parts; the brothers completed the assembly on the rail siding before driving them to the garage. The Brown Auto Company, which used Bradley s Fourth of July parade to advertise their product, on at least one occasion, obtained assistance from Robert s multi talented wife, Bessie, for the design and construction of a float. Using Ford s colors, Bessie decorated the float, which featured a Model T on a flatbed truck, by sewing many strips of crêpe together to create a huge blue and white hoop skirt around the car. The float prominently displayed Ford s motto, Henry s Made a Lady out of Lizzie. Selling cars sometimes required overcoming unique challenges. The owner of Carson s Ranch, Lloyd Carson, held a contest to determine if he would buy a Ford or a Chevrolet. There has been previous studies that have indicated that the rest gene influences gene expression. Researchers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook have taken it upon themselves to determine if it is in fact true. By using methods like zinc finger nuclease and quantitative PCR, they were able to find reliable evidence that: rest in zebrafish does have an influencing affect on neural specific gene expression but it fails to have many significant effects on zebrafish neurogenesis. First of all, lets look at why exactly scientists choose to work on zebrafish. Zebrafish was chosen by George Streisinger who was looking for a vertebrae model system to do work on genetics. It would appear that zebrasfish have some qualities that particularly makes them an exceptional choice for study. They are easy to maintain, manipulate (ability to microinject DNA, RNA and proteins into) and have many offspring rather rapidly. Another really interesting quality of zebrafish is that in the first few days of embryonic development, embryons are transparent, which allows imaging of cell movement and gene expression. Embryos also develop rather quickly; therefore scientists could do testing sooner then would be capable if mammals were used. Now lets look at what exactly is the rest protein. • 32. The Culture Of Asian American And Being Labeled As An Ethnic Preface In this essay, I attempted to lay bare the issues of being an Asian American and being labeled as an ethnic other in modern America. This label of other causes them to become marginalized and lose their sense of identity, belonging neither to Western culture nor Eastern culture. In order help stop this loss of identity in Asian Americans, we must tear down the social construct of the other and integrate the different cultures into the melting pot of popular culture. Once we have stopped alienating different cultures, we can then have a moral society that upholds diversity and identity. The Struggles of the Other The apparent dominance of White Europeans in America results in a common set of values, beliefs, and norms that are endorsed by Whites, leading to an America whose vision is filtered through the lens of the White European perspective. This established vision and power creates the social construct of the ethnic other. As an ethnic other in America, my analysis incorporates my personal experiences and the experiences of those around me. In a nation that has a population so diverse in personal and collective identities, problems regarding morality and culture can arise. In the America of the past and present, the norm by which all are measured against is that of a heterosexual White European. The Internet Of Things The Revolutionary Creation The Liberation Of The World Wide Web Gary Kwong 8/11/2014 Dr. Michael Jones CIS 206 Business Software Applications Abstract Much like the telephone or the automobile, the internet has dramatically changed the way people work and live. Unlike the telephone or the automobile, though, the internet has single handedly led to the creation of a relatively free space, where people around the world gather to share ideas, collaborate, mingle, and invent a future with new possibilities that no one knew they needed today. From its humble beginning as a relatively inexpensive lab project aimed at improving workflows to its rise against tyranny in world affairs, a worldwide obsession with the internet has gone viral and will likely sweep non discriminatorily to all parts of the globe. As this loosely regulated environment, also known as Cyberspace, the Net or the Web , matures; it is the civic duty of its users to ensure that the door to the information gateway remains open and accessible as it continues to disrupt all industry and influence all aspects of human conditions. His contrasts of light and dark, good and evil, and his brilliant illustration of parallels between the foolishness of the play s characters and society allowed him to craft a masterpiece. Just as well, Shakespeare s dynamic use of linguistic techniques such as pun and irony aid this illustration of the perfect microcosm, not only of 16th century Britain, but of all times and places. • 46. Benefit Of The Columbian Exchange This essay will explore whether the old world or the Americas benefitted more from the Columbian exchange. The Columbian exchange was the transfer of plants, animals, ideas and more between the Americas and the old world during the 15th and 16th century. This essay will first talk about the slavery that happened during the Columbian exchange. Secondly the deaths that were caused by the transfer of diseases through the Columbian exchange. Lastly how the exchange of foods through the Columbian exchange lead to an agricultural revolution. Body During the Columbian exchange when Europeans went to explore, create colonies and conquer land, native Americans would often be captured as slaves and exported back to Europe. For example, after Pizarro won the battle against the Incas, Pizarro captured the rest of the Incas as slaves. Europeans would also go to America to find goods such as gold and silver or wealth in general. The Europeans then found wealth in Slavery. By the 15th century slavery was well established and became very popular. On his second expedition to the Americas in 1493, Christopher Columbus enslaved over 500 Native Americans and sent them to Spain. (American Indians as Slaves). These slaves were often used to cultivate tobacco and were over worked (Slavery among Native Americans in the United States). The old world benefitted more than the Americas in this case. The Americans were harshly treated and were stripped of rights as slaves while the old world used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Analysis Of Ram Charan s New York Times Bestseller,... Strategic implementation is the process that turns strategies and plans into actions in order to accomplish strategic objectives and goals. It should be considered the blueprint for realizing the organization s vision. The success of any strategy is solely dependent upon the effectiveness of its implementation and execution. Ram Charan s New York Times bestseller, Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done, refers to implementation and execution of strategy as a systematic way of exposing reality and acting on it. The framework for successful implementation includes building an organization capable of executing strategy, proper resource allocation, support policies, continuous improvement, performance based incentives, and strategic leadership. KaBloom founder, David Hartstein, provided a sound strategy to realize his vision, however flaws in various elements of implementation led to continued problems for KaBloom. Executing the Vision As we learned in Section 3: Strategy Formulation, KaBloom sought to employ a differentiation strategy in effort to create a competitive edge. They created brand recognition and a niche within the market through visual differentiation, low cost, and product variety. Eye catching stores, strategically located in high traffic areas, drew customers into the serene garden like atmosphere with flowers cascading onto the storefront sidewalk. Their brand recognition was created through this concept of store design, which differed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lab Report On The Heat And Eat Meal Pack Introduction In this unit we have conducted research and experiments on our chosen reactions to create the highest exothermic reaction for the The Heat and Eat meal pack will use a chemical reaction that involves two reactants. Reactant 1 is a solid and Reactant 2 is a liquid. The solid reactant will be in a chamber next to the button. The button is pushed to start the reaction by removing the barrier between the solid and liquid reactants. The reaction should produce heat for at least 5 8 minutes. This will allow the meal to absorb the heat and be ready to eat within 10 minutes of the diner starting the reaction. The Non Magnesium Flameless Ration Heater TM (FRH) is targeted for use in military operational ration packs and Hot Pack/Action Pack self heating meals. single case can provide nutritional variety, critical in crisis situations where appetite may be suppressed by stress or emotional trauma. The entrée is ready in just 10 minutes by using the self heating unit. Aim and Hypothesis Aim: To plan, conduct, evaluate and report on an investigation of chemical changes, and make recommendations for their use as an energy source in Heat and Eat meal packs. Hypothesis: Reaction 3 will create the highest exothermic reaction in the test tube this is because the chemicals are highly flammable the means they are high in exothermic relations. If we use 4 grams of zinc powder the chemical retain with the copper sulphate solution will create the highest temperature We changed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. The Pearl Of Great Price By Joseph Smith Jr. Joseph Smith Jr. was born in Sharon, Vermont on December 23, 1805. Smith was characterized as being literate, but far from well educated. His family s rough existence led them across Vermont and eventually to Rochester, New York. It was here, in the spring of 1820, that Joseph Smith retired to a secluded grove of trees behind his house and said a prayer for guidance about whether to join the Presbyterians as his mother demanded, or whether to join the credo of the Baptists, take up the faith of the Methodists, or follow some other of the contending sects within Christianity at the time. It was here Joseph Smith claimed to receive his first of many visions. Smith claimed that God and Jesus Christ appeared before Joseph as separate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The last canonized revelation was a vision given in 1918 and there are also tow official declarations the abolishment of polygamy in 1890 and the extension of the priesthood to all races in 1978. The Pearl of Great Price was penned by Joseph Smith, is deemed inspired, and consists of several books and 13 articles of faith. These books include the book of Moses (a revision of parts of Genesis), the Book of Abraham, The Book of Joseph Smith Matthew (a revision of Matthew 24) and the book of Joseph Smith History (his testimony to the church). The completion of The Book of Mormon, proved to be the most important and significant act that Joseph Smith contributed to his church and organization. The Book of Mormon served as a new doctrine and guideline of Christ s restored church, with which to believe and abide by. This served to his new Mormon congregation building the early religious foundation for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints stating the highly important concept of an open cannon doctrine, established belief of divine revelation. To narrow down the analysis this paper will consider the dilution of sovereignty under the light of a primary force of globalization; Transnational Corporations. With the birth of the state, the concept of sovereignty originated. The democratic government of Arevalo had an altogether different mindset. Both Arevalo and his successor Arbenz started on a path of progressively reforming the society. A comprehensive program for social uplift of the Guatemalan people was charted out. Its major focus was on equitable distribution of national income, allowing civil liberties, empowering people and most importantly attempting to reduce the monopolistic control of different sectors of the economy by United Fruits Company. He also planned another port on the Atlantic to be run under the government control and building a hydro electric plant providing cheap electricity in competition with the one made by the Americans. The prime point of conflict, however, arose when the Arbenz government decided to implement agrarian reforms in the country. It was aimed at buying and redistributing unused land to ...
