Lawrence Vs Texas Case Study
In the 2003, the Supreme Court ruled that that state laws banning gay person homosexuality are illegal
as an infringement of the privilege to protection. The case of Lawrence v. Texas was a clear takeoff
from the Court s conservative procedure in the 1980s and 1990s, which discovered proof of central
rights just in exercises the laws themselves considerably ensured ( history and conventions ). Houston
police were dispatched to Lawrence s (defendant in the case) home because of a reported weapons
aggravation. The officers discovered Lawrence and Garner (defendant) whom at the time was having
sex. Lawrence and Garner were charged, indicted, and convicted under Texas law of deviate sexual
intercourse, specifically anal sex, with an individual

Comcast s Universal Studios
It is hard to imagine that a multinational generating more than $6 billion in free cash flow with a net
worth of $147.8 billion could be in trouble. However, there are outside forces at work that could
destroy a significant portion of Comcast s biggest generating capabilities. In fact, there are two issues
facing the company affecting Comcast s highly profitable cable business: Fiber and over the top video,
and under that uncertainty, Brian Roberts is investing more than $10M on the theme park business.
Comcast CEO Brian Roberts declared that the investment in Universal Studios Japan represented just
the beginning of more global investments. Hence, Comcast is turning Universal Studios into a major

The park was inspired to challenge Disney s success. Universal wanted to expand and eventually
invest a princely sum of $250 million in 1990 to launch an east coast version of its theme park.
Universal sought out a partner to help minimize its financial risk Paramount Studios and Michael
Eisner, one its most promising executives.
Florida
Universal Studios Florida is the second Universal theme park, and it first opened in 1990. This theme
park, contrary to the one in Hollywood, had several challenges in the survival of such. That is, USF
had its fair share of problems to enter the market: many of it s A List attractions, including Jaws and
Kong frontation had technical glitches and long lines that had people truly discouraged. It took some
time until the Orlando theme park could become a real competitive player in the market.. Since then,
Universal has become one of the main leaders of the market. THE A List attractions Simpsons,
Terminator 2: 3D are Universal theme parks most popular attractions.

Charles Babbage And His Engines
The author, Wilkes, of this journal article reviews and criticizes Charles Babbage and his engines. The
title of the journal questions the current position Charles Babbage is known for, the father of
computing. Wilkes considers Babbage a great uncle of computing science instead of the father and
gives further details as in to why. The author doesn t only criticize Babbage s work but also informs
the readers on how they operate and what their function is. According to the text, Babbage s first
difference engine was not a very good idea (Wilkes 15). The difference engine only functioned to do
two different tasks which are to compute and tabulate polynomials. This basically states that the
difference engine could compute mathematical tables, but further reading attacks this claim. In order
for the difference engine to be able to compute, Babbage had to do a great amount of paper and pencil
computation in order to calculate the coefficients to be set on the engine (Wilkes 15). As a result, one
can criticize that the difference engine doesn t exactly work out mathematical tables on its own
without the help of the conductor. One could argue that, because of the time period, the difference
computer wasn t made to reduce human labor but to actually mechanize computations. The author also
elaborates onto the rough years Babbage had on his creations towards his engine. During the year
1832, Babbage had a dispute with his engineer and production of the engine hindered (Wilkes

Moses the Leader
Moses was a leader of the Hebrews and probably the most important figure in Judaism. He led the
Hebrew people out of Egypt and into the Promise Land. His story is told in the book of Exodus, and
begins when he was first born during the time that the pharaoh of Egypt declared that all male Hebrew
babies were to be drowned at birth. Moses mother Yocheved, hid Moses and placed him in a basket in
the reeds of the Nile River, where he was then found by the pharaoh s daughter, who kept Moses and
raised him as her own. In the story of Moses, he grows up and stumbles upon an Egyptian beating a
Hebrew slave. Out of anger Moses murders the Egyptian, and flees to Midian to escape his crime
(Hays, 2000). In Midian, Moses rests besides a well, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moses was a humble man, but God sees that he is mightier than Moses sees himself. When God tells
him that he must lead the Jews out of Egypt, he grows fearful and unworthy of such a task. Moses
humility toward God is what makes him capable of such a tremendous mission. Although, he would
have much rather not lead the Jews out of Egypt because he is afraid and does not have faith in
himself, however, he is able to do it because God has told him to and God would not ask him to do so
if it was impossible. Moses successfully leads the Hebrews out of Egypt. Moses was capable of
freeing the Jews of slavery with a quality of humility (No Title, 1986). Being a leader is very
important when it comes to being successful. Like Moses, who was a natural born leader, it is
necessary for a President to be a leader. A President must possess certain qualities to make certain that
he will be successful in office. Leadership is a key attribute in order to be able to direct and be
followed by others. Any President would be grateful to have all the leadership qualities that Moses
had. Moses was loyal and faithful, to his belief in God. Despite his inner doubts, he believed that God
had chosen him to lead the Hebrews out of slavery and into the Promise Land. His faith kept him
motivated to persevere. Perseverance is another

Power and Influence
Interview: Marin Alsop, music director of the Bournemouth Symphony, discusses the power in music
and the power in the position of conductor October 7, 2003
BOB EDWARDS, host: Voters in California today decide who will be governor of the most populous
state in the nation. There may be a shift in power from a Democrat to a Republican; maybe not. This

STAMBERG: Wouldn t you race to play for a guy like that...
Ms. ALSOP: No, I mean...
STAMBERG: ...to do your best?
Ms. ALSOP: You know, it s fascinating to talk about power, because the concept of power changes,
and I think just 50 years ago, for a conductor this was most definitely the perception of a powerful
conductor. It was a dictatorial position, almost completely tyrannical, and this has dramatically
changed as musicians have gained more say in what is going on in the orchestra, as the business has
changed. You know, there are so many elements. But these days, I think power is much more similar
to the corporate structure, which, you know, you really have to be a team player; and not to say that
you re just one of the gang, because you can t ever be one of the gang. You always have to be
somewhat separated.
STAMBERG: Marin Alsop, your mentor was the great Leonard Bernstein. You went to one of his
Young People s Concerts when you were 10 years old and then you had the chance to work with him
at Tanglewood. What did you learn from him about establishing power, authority, as a conductor?

Gender Bathrooms
Letting any Gender into any Bathroom, a good Idea?
Stores and different establishments around the world are having to face a difficult challenge of letting
people go into gendered bathrooms they assign themselves to, or having to enforce the rule of boys in
boys and girls in girls. There are many cases of this being shown in today s world. Target was the first
of letting people chose what bathroom suites them based on their choice of gender, and now they are
revoking it due to complications and backlash from customers, instead they are now making a
compromise that suites all but will cost them up to twenty million dollars. Although many people will
say gender bathrooms are foolish because gender is a choice, they protect the user, and they

Bowen Family Systems, Structural, and Strategic Models Theory Application
The case study of Ana will be analyzed using the Bowen Family Systems Theory Approach. Bowen
Family Systems Theory is a theory of human behavior that views the family as an emotional unit and
uses systems thinking to describe the complex interactions in the unit (Kerr, 2000). This paper will
discuss the concepts of the theory that is appropriate for this case study; the reason this theory was
chosen over the other ones; counseling goals and intervention strategies in accomplishing those goals;
and designation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If anxiety levels rise in these problems, psychiatric, medical, or social dysfunction may develop (Kerr,
2000). In impairment of one or more children problems, according to Kerr (2000), the spouses focus
their anxieties on one or more of their children and the children focus their anxiety on them which can
ultimately impair school performance, social relationships, and even health (Kerr, 2000). In emotional
distance problems, according to Kerr (2000), people distances themselves from others to reduce the
intensity of the relationship, but risk isolation from each other. The fourth concept of this theory is the
family projection process. This concept describes the primary way parents transmit their emotional
problems to a child (Kerr, 2000). This process can impair the functioning of one or more children and
can increase their clinical symptoms. Some problems that children inherit from their parents include
the need for attention and approval; difficulty dealing with expectations; the tendency to blame oneself
or others; feeling responsible for the happiness of others or that others are responsible for one s own
happiness; and acting impulsively to relieve the anxiety of the moment rather than tolerating anxiety
and acting thoughtfully (Kerr, 2000). Parents have different roles in this process: mothers are the
primary caretakers and experience more emotional involvement with one or

Constructing and Reconstructing Essay
1. Woody Holton reveals the motives of the Founding Fathers depend widely on individual judgment
of the terms under the Articles of Confederation. Holton claims that historians excessively rely on
sources by the Federalist which reveals a prejudiced Federalist view (Hollitz, 110). Woody Holton
uses the writings of James Madison and Alexander Hamilton to expose the Founding Fathers deeper
motives in writing the Constitution. The Founding Fathers were frustrated because state legislatures
had been given in to popular demands to reduce taxes and increase the money supply (for relief from
the recession). While citizens were behind on their taxes; states were unable to pay interest on bonds,
which crippled the government operations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Federalist Paper No. 10 argues that a republic is capable of controlling the effects of faction, more
than a democracy. The reason is that a system of representation is more capable of protecting the
rights of the individuals, as well as being able to balance the needs of the public good. James Madison
views many advantages of a republic over a pure democracy. A republic, Madison writes, is different
from a democracy because its government is placed in the hands of delegates, and as a result of this, it
can be extended over a larger area. The idea is that in a large republic there will be more fit characters
to choose from for each delegate (Hollitz, 106). The chosen elites as representatives of the people will
be more helpful to the public good than by the people themselves. Also, the fact that each
representative is chosen from a larger number of citizens should make the vicious arts (Hollitz, 107).
For instance, in a larger republic a corrupt delegate would need to bribe many more people in order to
win an election than in a small republic, making it more difficult for unworthy candidates. Second, the
same advantage which a republic has over a pure democracy in controlling the effects of faction by a
larger over a small republic (Hollitz, 107). Madison explains the failure of democracy for not
understanding the need of the public good. Another flaw that Madison identifies in a democracy is that
it allows individuals to be their own

Are People Really Good At Heart
Despite Anne s ordeal she said, ¨In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at

Most of Anne s feelings were sympathetic and positive towards others. She felt this way because she

On Feb. 16, CFHS food service staff members implemented several changes in the cafeteria. Students
were met with new trays, an extended veggie bar, a broader a la carte, a new condiment bar, as well as
the opportunity to start serving themselves in the main line.
Due to the success of these initial changes, another change is coming on Monday, April 6. Starting
then, a new extended main line menu will offer four daily hot entree options. On a three week rotation
schedule, this new menu will include some student favorites, as well as some new selections, such as
ordered in pizza and pasta bar.

Calcutt The Prominent Place Of Mother
Calcutta is the prominent place of Mother Teresa s missionary work. The city was founded by
Charnack. In 1690 it became an East India Company settlement. In 1756 Calcutta was invaded by
Bengal and its Muslim ruler. The Bengalis punished and killed the British, in what is known as the
Black Hole of Calcutta. The British quickly took offense and attacked the Bengalis. The British were
able to win back Calcutta. Calcutta started to become a major source of trade, which rooted the class
divisions even deeper. The city was flourishing and providing England with the money they had hoped
for. After the abolition of the East India Company in 1858, Calcutta, unfortunately, transformed into a
city overflowing with impoverished and ill people.
Then in 1905 The Partition of Bengal took place. This separated the Hindus from the Muslims. The
Partition, as well as the creation of Pakistan, which became dominantly Muslim, led to mass
immigration of refugees. Most of the citizens lived in bustis, or slums, continuing to today.
In 1977 the Communist party rose to power, with the help of the Bengali elite. It served as the longest
reigning elected communist government ever. They were able to gain power due to the horrid living
conditions and the confusion caused by the refugees escaping into Calcutta. Calcutta is a place of
poverty and religious conflict. Mother Teresa grew up involved in charity and neighborly love. Mother

Pilot Fatigue Essay
To be an airline pilot is most of the time described in terms of duties, job requirements, proficiency,
training, employment opportunity, and good salary. These features picture a plain profile that fit into
the specification of just an ordinary career. However, an aviation career comes with many challenges
than expected. When focusing on statistics about being a pilot, it indicates a lifestyle that many inspire
to work despite the many challenges that face this career. The challenges that pilot face revolve around
being rested during long flights, performing unexpected, simultaneous tasks, and passing the medical
examination in order to remain qualified. When combined with fatigue due to long flight hours, these
different aspects can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In modern aviation, pilot fatigue has become a vital problem that needs urgent intervention. The full
effect of fatigue is frequently unforeseen however, many of its harmful effects have been known for a
long time. When comparing with individuals who usually have enough rest, individuals who suffer
from fatigue act slowly, have difficulties in memory, and are involved in many mistakes. In addition,
the negative impact can or may lead to aviation accidents and errors (Caldwell, Mallis, Caldwell, Paul,
Miller, Neri, 2009).
Some of the negative effects that contribute to airplane accidents are related to fatigue. Associated
mainly with long flights, irregular work schedules performed by pilots may lead to incidences such as
menstrual irregularities, stomach problems, weight gain, cardiovascular problems, and cold flu.
Unfortunately, there are attempts to provide limitation on flight time and scheduling provisions to
pilots. Moreover, accident surveys and aviation studies all indicate that fatigue is an emerging hazard
and a major concern in airline industries around the world. Long flying pilots often attribute the cause
of their fatigue to circadian disturbances and sleep deprivation, which is as a result of time zone
transitions. While short flying pilots attribute their fatigue on workload and sleep

The Structural Strain Theory Has Occurred
When socially accepted goals cannot be reached through legitimate means, the structural strain theory
has occurred. A mismatch that occurs between legitimate means and socially promoted goals has a
typology of responses in the strain theory. Merton s typology extends the functionalist perspective. He
believed that larger deviancy rates were because of social conditions and the varying responses. One
of the responses to social strain that accepts legitimate means of pursuing socially promoted goals is
conformity. Another response to social strain is ritualism. People reject or give up the socially
approved goal, but continue pursuing other goals through the same legitimate means (MindEdge,
2015).

Media s Influence On Media
Humans have been a focus for marketers for over 100 years and at the rise of the twentieth century,
mass media became widely recognized. In a period of mass availability, people today have entry to
more media outlets than ever before. According to media scholar Jean Kilbourne, the average
American is exposed to over 3,000 advertisements a day and watches three years worth of television
ads over the course of a lifetime (back cover). It is all around us, from the shows we watch on
television, the music we listen to on the radio, and to the books and magazines we read each day.
Media is the number one source for advertising. Advertising is a manipulative enterprise that uses
subtle techniques to persuade consumers into accepting whatever sales pitch [that is] presented to
them (Blades, Oates, and Blumberg 3). The vast majority of people do not think that advertising has
any influence on them. To their surprise, this is what advertisers want the general population to
believe; however, if that were true, why would companies spend over $200 billion a year on
advertising (Kilbourne 33)? The media has full control to decide what the public sees and how it is
portrayed.
Some argue that people benefit from exposure to the media and it s advertising. The media provides us
with most of our information about the political process (Buckingham 5). Through news channels
such as CNN and Fox News, people are offered an opportunity to learn and develop their own
political view and

Taking a Look at a Shamrock Organization
A Shamrock Organization Charles Handy is an author and philosopher who specializes in
organizational behavior and management. He has written several books that help companies succeed
in creating relationships with their employees that are similar to communities rather than just entities
on a mission for profit. Most of his working life was spent in Britain, where he became a
spokesperson for management. Charles Handy was rated among the Thinkers 50, a list of the most
influential management thinkers. In 2001 he came second to Peter Drucker. Charles Handy is married
to Elizabeth, a photographer, who he has collaborated with on a number of his most notable works.
Together, they have a son, Scott, who is an actor. Scott has played with the Royal Shakespeare
Company. Handy studied at Oriel College in Oxford where he obtained a first class honor in Greats, a
study of classics, history, and philosophy. Unlike most influential individuals to management and
business in general, Handy actually lacks a lot of business background. Peter Drucker once said that
Handy was a man practicing the scholarship of common sense. This is apparent in the majority of his
works by the use of his use of elaborate metaphors and easily understandable writing style. He uses
metaphors and parables related to his work experiences or life experiences to teach a lesson to his
audience. The way Handy tells a story is captivating and every part of the story is relevant to the

A Research Study On Cystic Fibrosis
Brief History
Cystic Fibrosis was first recognized in 1938, as an individual disease or distinct entity, which basically
means that the symptoms were not related to any other illness (Davis, 2006), but there was a common
passage in the Almanac of Children s Songs and Games from Switzerland , the passage read, the child
will soon die who s brow tastes salty when kissed , which hinted at the saltiness of the skin of infants
who died might relate to Cystic Fibrosis. Autopsies were done in 1838 on malnourished infants, these
infants acclaimed a diseases of mucus that plugged the glandular ducts, this was termed as cystic
fibrosis of the pancreas by D.H. Anderson (Davis, 2006). Cystic Fibrosis was described by the
following symptoms, malabsorption of fats and proteins, growth failure, steatorrhea, and pulmonary
infection (Davis, 2006). Numerous articles began to appear during the early 1900s, these articles were
describing newborns who had pancreatic disorders (Shapiro Heussner, p.17).
Around 1944, scientists discovered that the widespread defect of mucous secretions could have a big
explanation for the many symptoms of cystic fibrosis (Shapiro Heussner, p.17). There was are pattern
of recessive inheritance patter that was proposed in 1946 (Todd 2001), by the 1950s many
advancements have been made, such as diagnosis and even the development of the sweat test and
successful treatments for lung infections by using antibiotics (Shapiro Heussner, p.17). In the year

African Slaves In The Novel Saltwater Slavery By Smallwood
The Natchez District where a tribe of Indians were housed as slaves was the first Mississippi region
where plantations were established. There African slaves were introduced into the Natchez plantation
system in the early 1700s by the French colonists where the first major profitable crop that thrived
from African slave labor in Natchez was tobacco products. The slaves shipped here came with a
militant spirit after being harbored amongst the torturous vessels. Their aggression, at first took the
form of resistance on slave ships as many deckhands and captive slaves experienced the unforgiving
waters, this is again explained in the novel Saltwater Slavery written by Smallwood. One of the
earliest recorded incidents of a slave resistance was the Natchez Indian Revolt of 1729 against the
French colonists. The African arrival in Natchez did not quell this militancy. Instead it caused the
Natchez to increase their aggression. However, the French quickly recognized the preceding contact
and interaction between the slaves and the Natchez Indians and as a counter they, (the French)
eventually extended their cruelty to the Indians. The Natchez Indians became aware that the French
began to whip young Indian boys just as they did their African slaves, along with the French
commander at Fort Rosalie taking the Natchez land, encouraged the Natchez nobles to act in
retaliation. To reflect the cruelty of the French, Natchez Indians recruited several slaves, promising
them freedom, and in

Mary was the mother to Jesus Christ, the Messiah, and has been a focus of theological discussion
since about the second century. Mary comes from a long line of women in the bible. Prototypes, if you
will. These women throughout the Old Testament were chosen by God. This gave way to Mary
becoming the God bearer. A title that was given to her by the Council of Ephesus in 431 C.E. This is
obviously where all theological debate dealing with Mariology comes from. To Catholics, Mary is a
sign of hope in this fading world. To protestant Christians, Mary is also known as the mother of God.
However, many protestant theologians believe that Mary should be honored but within certain limits.
The Old Testament in the Holy Bible specifically says in Exodus 34:14, Do not worship any other
god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God . In the New Testament it says in 1 John
5:21, Little children, keep yourselves from idols . Martin Luther (a German professor of Theology,
and founder of the Lutheran Church) was quick to say that Mary should be honored but to only what is
fitting. Karl Barth (a reformed protestant theologian) explained that through Mary, Jesus was human,
and through Jesus, she is the divine mother of God, and is full of grace that was still given to her by
God the Father. Avery Dulles talks of models that churches should strive to uphold, and Mary (mother
of God) resembles the church of Servant, Community,

I chose to interview Regina Geis, who holds the administrative role as acting supervisor for the
County Mental Health adult day program, which provides services for individuals with intellectual
disabilities. Ms. Geis has held this position for 15 months. This is her first managerial position within
a human service agency. Her style of management has changed over this short period of time. She
feels that she is now more direct with her direction with staff. She stated, Maybe now I come across as
a little bit cold. But I have learned that I now have to use the least amount of words to get my point
across.

She replied with Linear like Dr. Sprague (agency CEO).
Ms. Geis feels that the communication skills that one must possess in order to make advancements in
management are that one must be an effective communicator, know the work environment, and the
people you work with.
Edmondson (2009) discusses four different basic communication styles. The first style is expressive
which have a tendency to speak quickly, focus on the big picture, and have a high energy level. They
can be perceived as unpredictable, vain, or excessively jovial. Next are systematic who tend to focus
on small details, not on the larger picture, and try to avoid conflicts. The third type listed is
sympathetic. These individuals focus on people and relationships. They are good listeners and so
concern for everyone s needs. Sympathetics also do not like be at odds with others. Lastly, the fourth
communication style identified is directs who generally keep dialogue short and are perceived as a
multitaskers. The study recommends that the individual discover her own communication style and
adjust the style according to the situation.

The Effects Of Drug Abuse On Our Life
This essay will be written to raise awareness into the idea of drug abuse and what causes it as this is a
growing issue within adolescents in our world today. This essay will help to inform people into the
negative impact drugs can have on your life and to also outline how an individual can refrain from
such acts. It is worthy of investigation due to the fact that it will enable one to gain a greater
understanding through science and research about how an individual within the aforementioned age
group can be influenced by differing factors, which ultimately lead to consumption of drugs. The

Teenagers and young adults choose to take drugs for many different reasons and these include: To fit
in, to escape from pressures, to relieve boredom, to seem grown up, to rebel, to experiment (drug free
world 2006)
Many teenagers feel as though consuming drugs acts as a solution to their problems. However, the
drugs usually become a major problem affecting their life as the years pass on. Drugs soon become an
addiction and lead people s life astray. The addiction itself can be considered a brain disease because
drugs change the function and structure of the brain (NIH, 2014). The brain is made up of a variety of
parts that all interconnect to take out a specific job. When drugs are consumed they cause the brain to
stop functioning in the way that it usually does. Drugs can affect three primary areas of the brain and
these include: The brain stem, the cerebral cortex and the limbic system. (Brain and addiction, 2014)
For most people the initial decision to consume or inject any type of drug is voluntary. However, over
time, drug use can cause changes to the brain and this can take away peoples self control and therefore
limit their ability to make sound decisions in certain circumstances. There are many biological and
socio cultural factors that do indeed play a role in drug use, and this essay will attempt to explain these
factors with reference to relevant research studies.

Case Study Unilab
Unilab finds recipe for success blending legacy values and professional management by Grace Zata
With a growth rate that places it among the top three markets in Asia and a buoyant business
environment resilient to global shocks, the Philippines is on a growth trajectory and is, for a change,
dealing with the side effects of rapid growth. Retention of talent, for example, has become a major
challenge for Philippine companies. United Laboratories (Unilab) has avoided this problem, however,
by embracing the best of Western professional and Asian family cultures. No one leaves Unilab, said
Imee Centeno, Senior Vice President for Organizational Development, Especially not senior
managers. Many Philippine conglomerates were founded by taipans , the name used for rags to riches
Chinese immigrant businessmen. United Laboratories was founded by Jose Yao (JY) Campos,
originally from China s Fujian province. He aspired to be a soldier, but his father sent him to the
Philippines to learn entrepreneurship instead. In 1945, he opened a small drug store in Manila together
with Mariano K. Tan that grew into the country s leading pharmaceutical company within 14 years.

Public Drinking Water Fluorination Research
Fluoride is a mineral found in the earth s crust with proven benefit in protecting against dental caries
better known as cavities (Colgate Oral Care, 2016). Fluoride is available through oral health care
products and disseminated through the public water supply in every state across the country. Even
rural residents receiving their water from a well have trace concentrations of fluoride. Individuals
using private well water are urged to have their fluoride levels analyzed by a laboratory; suggestions
on reputable laboratories are provided through the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
website (CDC.gov, 2015).
According to the EPA, the recommended level of fluoride in drinking water to maintain good oral

Proper Interpretation Of The Bible And Culture Perspective
The writer, Roger Nicole addresses the issues of proper interpretation of the scriptures in hermeneutic
and culture perspective. He implies, that one must avoid reading meaning into the text that are not
inherent in the text. He go on future to say, We must allow the text to speak for itself without imposing
on it a predetermined interpretation. Study shows axiom (rule of interpretation) of biblical
hermeneutics is that the interpreter must take into count the literary genre of the passage being
interpreted along with the question of text grammars, philology, background and history (Nicole.p.356
57).The writer discusses the different between prescriptive or descriptive texts. It is important in the
hermeneutics process to distinguish what in Scripture is prescriptive, embodying God s commandment
to us, and what is descriptive, relating events or attitudes that may or may not be desirable
(Nicole.p.357). Even though we Know that God is the primary author of Scripture. it is imperative that
certain practices in both New and Old Testament are merely describe, or serve as a culture background
of the activity even of some who were God s children, without implying that we shall conform to these
practices (Nicole. P.357)
Here Nicole warns against lifting verses or passages out their context. Each passage must be
understood in light of the passages written before and after it, in light of the book in which it is found,
and in light of larger Canonical Interpretations. The

The Effects Of Radioactive Decay On The World
Thorium has long been the subject of scientific research ever since its discovery, and now it appears
that this obscure element may be the energy source which could fuel humanity for generations to
come. While thorium has a complicated history, the element remains very important to humanity for
many reasons. Discovered about the same time as uranium in the 19th century, thorium has been well
known to the scientific community for many years (World Nuclear Association). In fact, famous
scientists like Marie Curie and Ernest Rutherford worked with the element in several experiments
when radioactive decay was first being discovered. Since that time, however, thorium has largely been
thrown by the wayside for use in practical applications such as energy production in favor of
neighboring elements uranium and plutonium. Things are starting to turn around for thorium though,
as people are beginning to realize that thorium power offers cleaner, more powerful, and safer energy
than anything humanity has ever known before, and they are beginning to take action to make thorium
more widely known as an important prospective energy source. Fig. 1. Thorium Element. Digital

Introduction The 20th century saw Malaysia undergoing numerous political, social and economical
changes, all of which were reflected in the cultural changes that also took place during this time. In
particular, Malay music in Malaysia, due to a myriad of factors and influences, experienced significant
transformation to become Malay music, as we know it today. As such, this paper seeks to explore the

Instead of the monotonous drum beats of the Rebana Ubi, modern synthesizers have been included in
accompaniment to the traditional gamelan and drums. The Rise of Malay Popular Music Before the
1920s, the pop music scene in Malaysia was almost non existent. Malaysia s pop music scene
developed from traditional Asli (pure) music, which was popularized in the 1920s by bangsawan
musicians.
The period between 1965 and 1971 was termed the Era of Pop Yeh Yeh. Colonisation led to the
introduction of bands like The Beatles and The Shadows which exerted great influence, as evidenced
by how many local singers started emulating Western pop stars. Rocky Teoh was known as the Elvis
of Malaysia and several women called themselves the local Connie Francis. Later, other Malaysians
would aspire to emulate Tom Jones, Bob Marley and other foreign entertainers.
The first local song in this genre was M. Osman s 1964 hit Suzanna , which was soon followed by
dozens of others. The Pop Yeh Yeh stars sold thousands of records and dominated the music scene in
Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei throughout the 1960s. Many sang only in Malay. Music in this era
was more Western sounding than much of the earlier Malay pop music. During this era, western
popular music was heard increasingly on the radio, spreading the western pop culture to even the rural
villages.

Boone Recital Hall Performance Essay
I attended the December 8th student recital at 7:30pm in Boone Recital Hall. I saw performances from
Zoë Tucker, Leah Jeffers, Aleesha Yan, and Saif Saigol, all accompanied on the piano by Kyungmi
Kim. Zoë Tucker is a soprano and sang the Italian aria Se tu m ami with great pronunciation. Zoë
seemed a little nervous at first, but gradually became more comfortable as the piece continued. Zoë
wore a flattering black dress with a long sparkly skirt, and black flats. Her breathing was rather silent
with little shoulder movement, but the rise and fall of her chest was rather noticeable. Zoë had nice
clear high notes with vibrato that rang throughout the performance hall. Zoë did a good job of making
the performance dynamic by varying her volume throughout and was very engaged with the lyrics
giving the impression that she had a good understanding of the meaning behind the aria. Leah Jeffers
is a soprano and performed the German aria Die Nacht and the French aria Je veux vivre from Romeo
and Juliet. Leah was very comfortable on stage, with a lovely calming presence. She wore a long
green dress with a black cardigan and black flats. Her breathing was ... Show more content on

her at a young age through the painting Judith Slaying Holofernes. Her rapist was found not guilty
after her own character was sullied. (Freeland 134) This is one of her more famous works of art that I
found and when I look at it, first glance, I see two women holding down a man and cutting his head
off. The man is naked and the two women are wearing the colors red and blue. If you look close it
looks like they caught him mid nap and he tried to fight back but a sword through the neck will stop
that. It is almost like she is displaying what

The Religion Of Buddhism And Buddhism
In the world today, there are dozens of religions that have spread all over to many parts of the world to
promote their idea of spiritual enlightenment and peace. One of the interesting things that occurs with
some of these religions is after it spreads to a new area, how it becomes popular with the people and
becomes a part of everyday life. The religion of Buddhism is one of these that had this effect when it
began to spread from India where it originated, to many Asian countries especially China where it
would have the biggest impact. In China, Buddhism would take root and would grow to become a
popular religion in the country much like the other major religions of China, Confucianism and
Taoism, which together with Buddhism would later be known as the Three Teachings . Additionally, at
some point Buddhism would began to lose its popularity in India due to Hinduism, which had
absorbed some of the features of Buddhism and another famous religion from India Jainism, in order
to re emergence as the major religion of India. In China, this would not be the case, as it would
continue to grow and remain strong long after it fell out of popularity in India. This study will explore
some of the ways of how Buddhism was able to prosper and survive longer in China where in India it
was only able to last until Hinduism re remerged as the major religion for India. When Buddhism was
first arrived in China during the Han Dynasty (221 207 BC), it did not become popular right away, as

However, there are outside forces at work that could destroy a significant portion of Comcast s biggest generating capabilities. In fact, there are two issues facing the company affecting Comcast s highly profitable cable business: Fiber and over the top video, and under that uncertainty, Brian Roberts is investing more than $10M on the theme park business. Comcast CEO Brian Roberts declared that the investment in Universal Studios Japan represented just the beginning of more global investments. That is, USF had its fair share of problems to enter the market: many of it s A List attractions, including Jaws and Kong frontation had technical glitches and long lines that had people truly discouraged. • 4. Charles Babbage And His Engines The author, Wilkes, of this journal article reviews and criticizes Charles Babbage and his engines. The title of the journal questions the current position Charles Babbage is known for, the father of computing. Wilkes considers Babbage a great uncle of computing science instead of the father and gives further details as in to why. The author doesn t only criticize Babbage s work but also informs the readers on how they operate and what their function is. According to the text, Babbage s first difference engine was not a very good idea (Wilkes 15). The difference engine only functioned to do two different tasks which are to compute and tabulate polynomials. This basically states that the difference engine could compute mathematical tables, but further reading attacks this claim. In order for the difference engine to be able to compute, Babbage had to do a great amount of paper and pencil computation in order to calculate the coefficients to be set on the engine (Wilkes 15). As a result, one can criticize that the difference engine doesn t exactly work out mathematical tables on its own without the help of the conductor. One could argue that, because of the time period, the difference computer wasn t made to reduce human labor but to actually mechanize computations. The author also elaborates onto the rough years Babbage had on his creations towards his engine. During the year 1832, Babbage had a dispute with his engineer and production of the engine hindered (Wilkes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Moses the Leader Moses was a leader of the Hebrews and probably the most important figure in Judaism. He led the Hebrew people out of Egypt and into the Promise Land. His story is told in the book of Exodus, and begins when he was first born during the time that the pharaoh of Egypt declared that all male Hebrew babies were to be drowned at birth. Moses mother Yocheved, hid Moses and placed him in a basket in the reeds of the Nile River, where he was then found by the pharaoh s daughter, who kept Moses and raised him as her own. In the story of Moses, he grows up and stumbles upon an Egyptian beating a Hebrew slave. Out of anger Moses murders the Egyptian, and flees to Midian to escape his crime (Hays, 2000). In Midian, Moses rests besides a well, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moses was a humble man, but God sees that he is mightier than Moses sees himself. When God tells him that he must lead the Jews out of Egypt, he grows fearful and unworthy of such a task. Moses humility toward God is what makes him capable of such a tremendous mission. Although, he would have much rather not lead the Jews out of Egypt because he is afraid and does not have faith in himself, however, he is able to do it because God has told him to and God would not ask him to do so if it was impossible. Moses successfully leads the Hebrews out of Egypt. Moses was capable of freeing the Jews of slavery with a quality of humility (No Title, 1986). Being a leader is very important when it comes to being successful. Like Moses, who was a natural born leader, it is necessary for a President to be a leader. A President must possess certain qualities to make certain that he will be successful in office. Leadership is a key attribute in order to be able to direct and be followed by others. Any President would be grateful to have all the leadership qualities that Moses had. Moses was loyal and faithful, to his belief in God. Despite his inner doubts, he believed that God had chosen him to lead the Hebrews out of slavery and into the Promise Land. His faith kept him motivated to persevere. Perseverance is another ... Power and Influence Interview: Marin Alsop, music director of the Bournemouth Symphony, discusses the power in music and the power in the position of conductor October 7, 2003 BOB EDWARDS, host: Voters in California today decide who will be governor of the most populous state in the nation. There may be a shift in power from a Democrat to a Republican; maybe not. This month, NPR special correspondent Susan Stamberg explores the idea of power what it is, how it s used and what happens when it s gone. Today, her first conversation taps into power and music. Ms. ALSOP: You know, it s fascinating to talk about power, because the concept of power changes, and I think just 50 years ago, for a conductor this was most definitely the perception of a powerful conductor. It was a dictatorial position, almost completely tyrannical, and this has dramatically changed as musicians have gained more say in what is going on in the orchestra, as the business has changed. You know, there are so many elements. But these days, I think power is much more similar to the corporate structure, which, you know, you really have to be a team player; and not to say that you re just one of the gang, because you can t ever be one of the gang. You always have to be somewhat separated. STAMBERG: Marin Alsop, your mentor was the great Leonard Bernstein. You went to one of his Young People s Concerts when you were 10 years old and then you had the chance to work with him at Tanglewood. What did you learn from him about establishing power, authority, as a conductor? Ms. ALSOP: Well, listen, you know, that was the most fascinating relationship to watch, Bernstein with any orchestra. Benton Grand Canyon University PCN: 500 December 17, 2014 Bowen Family Systems, Structural, and Strategic Models Theory Application The case study of Ana will be analyzed using the Bowen Family Systems Theory Approach. Bowen Family Systems Theory is a theory of human behavior that views the family as an emotional unit and uses systems thinking to describe the complex interactions in the unit (Kerr, 2000). This paper will discuss the concepts of the theory that is appropriate for this case study; the reason this theory was chosen over the other ones; counseling goals and intervention strategies in accomplishing those goals; and designation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If anxiety levels rise in these problems, psychiatric, medical, or social dysfunction may develop (Kerr, 2000). In impairment of one or more children problems, according to Kerr (2000), the spouses focus their anxieties on one or more of their children and the children focus their anxiety on them which can ultimately impair school performance, social relationships, and even health (Kerr, 2000). In emotional distance problems, according to Kerr (2000), people distances themselves from others to reduce the intensity of the relationship, but risk isolation from each other. The fourth concept of this theory is the family projection process. This concept describes the primary way parents transmit their emotional problems to a child (Kerr, 2000). This process can impair the functioning of one or more children and can increase their clinical symptoms. Some problems that children inherit from their parents include the need for attention and approval; difficulty dealing with expectations; the tendency to blame oneself or others; feeling responsible for the happiness of others or that others are responsible for one s own happiness; and acting impulsively to relieve the anxiety of the moment rather than tolerating anxiety and acting thoughtfully (Kerr, 2000). • 10. Constructing and Reconstructing Essay 1. Woody Holton reveals the motives of the Founding Fathers depend widely on individual judgment of the terms under the Articles of Confederation. Holton claims that historians excessively rely on sources by the Federalist which reveals a prejudiced Federalist view (Hollitz, 110). Woody Holton uses the writings of James Madison and Alexander Hamilton to expose the Founding Fathers deeper motives in writing the Constitution. The Founding Fathers were frustrated because state legislatures had been given in to popular demands to reduce taxes and increase the money supply (for relief from the recession). While citizens were behind on their taxes; states were unable to pay interest on bonds, which crippled the government operations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Federalist Paper No. 10 argues that a republic is capable of controlling the effects of faction, more than a democracy. The reason is that a system of representation is more capable of protecting the rights of the individuals, as well as being able to balance the needs of the public good. James Madison views many advantages of a republic over a pure democracy. A republic, Madison writes, is different from a democracy because its government is placed in the hands of delegates, and as a result of this, it can be extended over a larger area. The idea is that in a large republic there will be more fit characters to choose from for each delegate (Hollitz, 106). The chosen elites as representatives of the people will be more helpful to the public good than by the people themselves. Also, the fact that each representative is chosen from a larger number of citizens should make the vicious arts (Hollitz, 107). For instance, in a larger republic a corrupt delegate would need to bribe many more people in order to win an election than in a small republic, making it more difficult for unworthy candidates. Second, the same advantage which a republic has over a pure democracy in controlling the effects of faction by a larger over a small republic (Hollitz, 107). Madison explains the failure of democracy for not understanding the need of the public good. Another flaw that Madison identifies in a democracy is that it allows individuals to be their own ... • 13. Calcutt The Prominent Place Of Mother Calcutta is the prominent place of Mother Teresa s missionary work. The city was founded by Charnack. In 1690 it became an East India Company settlement. In 1756 Calcutta was invaded by Bengal and its Muslim ruler. The Bengalis punished and killed the British, in what is known as the Black Hole of Calcutta. The British quickly took offense and attacked the Bengalis. The British were able to win back Calcutta. Calcutta started to become a major source of trade, which rooted the class divisions even deeper. The city was flourishing and providing England with the money they had hoped for. After the abolition of the East India Company in 1858, Calcutta, unfortunately, transformed into a city overflowing with impoverished and ill people. Then in 1905 The Partition of Bengal took place. This separated the Hindus from the Muslims. The Partition, as well as the creation of Pakistan, which became dominantly Muslim, led to mass immigration of refugees. Most of the citizens lived in bustis, or slums, continuing to today. In 1977 the Communist party rose to power, with the help of the Bengali elite. It served as the longest reigning elected communist government ever. They were able to gain power due to the horrid living conditions and the confusion caused by the refugees escaping into Calcutta. When focusing on statistics about being a pilot, it indicates a lifestyle that many inspire to work despite the many challenges that face this career. In modern aviation, pilot fatigue has become a vital problem that needs urgent intervention. The full effect of fatigue is frequently unforeseen however, many of its harmful effects have been known for a long time. When comparing with individuals who usually have enough rest, individuals who suffer from fatigue act slowly, have difficulties in memory, and are involved in many mistakes. In addition, the negative impact can or may lead to aviation accidents and errors (Caldwell, Mallis, Caldwell, Paul, Miller, Neri, 2009). Some of the negative effects that contribute to airplane accidents are related to fatigue. Associated mainly with long flights, irregular work schedules performed by pilots may lead to incidences such as menstrual irregularities, stomach problems, weight gain, cardiovascular problems, and cold flu. Unfortunately, there are attempts to provide limitation on flight time and scheduling provisions to pilots. Moreover, accident surveys and aviation studies all indicate that fatigue is an emerging hazard and a major concern in airline industries around the world. Long flying pilots often attribute the cause of their fatigue to circadian disturbances and sleep deprivation, which is as a result of time zone transitions. A mismatch that occurs between legitimate means and socially promoted goals has a typology of responses in the strain theory. Merton s typology extends the functionalist perspective. He believed that larger deviancy rates were because of social conditions and the varying responses. One of the responses to social strain that accepts legitimate means of pursuing socially promoted goals is conformity. Another response to social strain is ritualism. I was also told that getting good grades in college, will get you the degree you are seeking and you should be able to get a job anywhere you want. • 16. Media s Influence On Media Humans have been a focus for marketers for over 100 years and at the rise of the twentieth century, mass media became widely recognized. In a period of mass availability, people today have entry to more media outlets than ever before. According to media scholar Jean Kilbourne, the average American is exposed to over 3,000 advertisements a day and watches three years worth of television ads over the course of a lifetime (back cover). It is all around us, from the shows we watch on television, the music we listen to on the radio, and to the books and magazines we read each day. Media is the number one source for advertising. Advertising is a manipulative enterprise that uses subtle techniques to persuade consumers into accepting whatever sales pitch [that is] presented to them (Blades, Oates, and Blumberg 3). The vast majority of people do not think that advertising has any influence on them. To their surprise, this is what advertisers want the general population to believe; however, if that were true, why would companies spend over $200 billion a year on advertising (Kilbourne 33)? The media has full control to decide what the public sees and how it is portrayed. Some argue that people benefit from exposure to the media and it s advertising. The media provides us with most of our information about the political process (Buckingham 5). Through news channels such as CNN and Fox News, people are offered an opportunity to learn and develop their own political view and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unlike most influential individuals to management and business in general, Handy actually lacks a lot of business background. Peter Drucker once said that Handy was a man practicing the scholarship of common sense. This is apparent in the majority of his works by the use of his use of elaborate metaphors and easily understandable writing style. A Research Study On Cystic Fibrosis Brief History Cystic Fibrosis was first recognized in 1938, as an individual disease or distinct entity, which basically means that the symptoms were not related to any other illness (Davis, 2006), but there was a common passage in the Almanac of Children s Songs and Games from Switzerland , the passage read, the child will soon die who s brow tastes salty when kissed , which hinted at the saltiness of the skin of infants who died might relate to Cystic Fibrosis. • 21. African Slaves In The Novel Saltwater Slavery By Smallwood The Natchez District where a tribe of Indians were housed as slaves was the first Mississippi region where plantations were established. There African slaves were introduced into the Natchez plantation system in the early 1700s by the French colonists where the first major profitable crop that thrived from African slave labor in Natchez was tobacco products. The slaves shipped here came with a militant spirit after being harbored amongst the torturous vessels. Their aggression, at first took the form of resistance on slave ships as many deckhands and captive slaves experienced the unforgiving waters, this is again explained in the novel Saltwater Slavery written by Smallwood. One of the earliest recorded incidents of a slave resistance was the Natchez Indian Revolt of 1729 against the French colonists. The African arrival in Natchez did not quell this militancy. Instead it caused the Natchez to increase their aggression. However, the French quickly recognized the preceding contact and interaction between the slaves and the Natchez Indians and as a counter they, (the French) eventually extended their cruelty to the Indians. The Natchez Indians became aware that the French began to whip young Indian boys just as they did their African slaves, along with the French commander at Fort Rosalie taking the Natchez land, encouraged the Natchez nobles to act in retaliation. • 22. Mary As A Disciple ( Mariology ) Mary as a Disciple (Mariology) Mary was the mother to Jesus Christ, the Messiah, and has been a focus of theological discussion since about the second century. Mary comes from a long line of women in the bible. Prototypes, if you will. These women throughout the Old Testament were chosen by God. This gave way to Mary becoming the God bearer. A title that was given to her by the Council of Ephesus in 431 C.E. This is obviously where all theological debate dealing with Mariology comes from. To Catholics, Mary is a sign of hope in this fading world. To protestant Christians, Mary is also known as the mother of God. However, many protestant theologians believe that Mary should be honored but within certain limits. The Old Testament in the Holy Bible specifically says in Exodus 34:14, Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God . In the New Testament it says in 1 John 5:21, Little children, keep yourselves from idols . Martin Luther (a German professor of Theology, and founder of the Lutheran Church) was quick to say that Mary should be honored but to only what is fitting. Karl Barth (a reformed protestant theologian) explained that through Mary, Jesus was human, and through Jesus, she is the divine mother of God, and is full of grace that was still given to her by God the Father. Avery Dulles talks of models that churches should strive to uphold, and Mary (mother of God) resembles the church of Servant, Community, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the drugs usually become a major problem affecting their life as the years pass on. Drugs soon become an addiction and lead people s life astray. He implies, that one must avoid reading meaning into the text that are not inherent in the text. He go on future to say, We must allow the text to speak for itself without imposing on it a predetermined interpretation. Study shows axiom (rule of interpretation) of biblical hermeneutics is that the interpreter must take into count the literary genre of the passage being interpreted along with the question of text grammars, philology, background and history (Nicole.p.356 57).The writer discusses the different between prescriptive or descriptive texts. It is important in the hermeneutics process to distinguish what in Scripture is prescriptive, embodying God s commandment to us, and what is descriptive, relating events or attitudes that may or may not be desirable (Nicole.p.357). Even though we Know that God is the primary author of Scripture. it is imperative that certain practices in both New and Old Testament are merely describe, or serve as a culture background of the activity even of some who were God s children, without implying that we shall conform to these practices (Nicole. While thorium has a complicated history, the element remains very important to humanity for many reasons. Discovered about the same time as uranium in the 19th century, thorium has been well known to the scientific community for many years (World Nuclear Association). In fact, famous scientists like Marie Curie and Ernest Rutherford worked with the element in several experiments when radioactive decay was first being discovered. Since that time, however, thorium has largely been thrown by the wayside for use in practical applications such as energy production in favor of neighboring elements uranium and plutonium. One of the interesting things that occurs with some of these religions is after it spreads to a new area, how it becomes popular with the people and becomes a part of everyday life. The religion of Buddhism is one of these that had this effect when it began to spread from India where it originated, to many Asian countries especially China where it would have the biggest impact. In China, Buddhism would take root and would grow to become a popular religion in the country much like the other major religions of China, Confucianism and Taoism, which together with Buddhism would later be known as the Three Teachings .
