Latin American Independence Movement Research Paper
I believe the Latin American Independence movements failed when compared to other revolutions
because of lack of planning, race relations, and major dependence on colonial powers. In the
American Revolution there were great men who stood back and took the time with Constitutional
Conventions to sit down and decide what everyone wanted and what would please everyone. Sure the
Articles of Confederation didn t work out, but they took the kinks and worked through it to create the
Constitution. This was not the case with Simon Bolivar and the Grand Columbia. He knew what he
wanted to happen, but didn t stick around to help see it through. Once he left to go help others gain
their independence the people, mostly creoles made power grabs. Instead of coming together as a
nation they only wanted their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people did not see themselves as one nation, but separate entities. Even the people inside the new
nations saw themselves as entirely different people. There were the indigenous, the African, the
creoles, the mulattos, and so on. Plus, independence did not bring a better way of life for most
individuals. In fact, as professor clay pointed out in class, a lot of people were very poor and the
situation became worse with independence. Some people who had money before found themselves
losing wealth instead of the other way around. In independence movements there is this ideal that once
independence happens everyone will be better off, but there is a period of losing money. In the Latin
American countries the wealth had become so great among the creoles and the upper classes that this
was a scary idea so they began to make plays for power. This is in contrast to the American
Revolution where America was in debt to France, but they were focused on making the nation work
rather than the debt they owed. Of course, this all lead to the French

How To Write An Informative Speech On Open Heart Surgery
We ve all heard of open heart surgery, but not all of us know exactly what it is, which is why I m here
to explain it. To start it off, heart surgery, according to MedlinePlus, is any surgery done on the heart
muscle, valves, arteries, or the aorta and other large arteries connected to the heart. However, there is
also open heart surgery, which although sounds the same there are quite some differences, for when
doing open heart surgery, you re going to have to be connected to a bypass machine during surgery,
for your heart has been stopped because of it. Other than stopping your heart, the bypass machine is
able to give you the necessary oxygen that your blood needs, move that blood throughout your whole
body, and get rid of carbon dioxide.

Reflection Paper On Positionality
My positionality is composed both of cultural aspects and personal lived experiences that engender me
towards certain perspectives (Holmes, 2014), thus introducing subjectivity in my research. As such, I
must understand where my positionality is derived from to ensure that my research remains as truthful
as possible (Holmes, 20014). I must remain self conscious about my own views and positions and how
they may influence my design, execution and interpretation of the research data findings (Greenback,
2003). Understanding my own positionality further guides me to remain cognizant of it while
practicing and sustaining reflexivity throughout my research. Berger (2013) remarks it as a means of
acknowledging my own subjectivity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My mother s divorce from my dad and her need to raise four children, which fueled and led her to a
successful and profitable career. Her perseverance and urgency to change how women were seen in
the workforce, led her to raise two daughters with the same affiliations and directions. Moreover, my
mother s belief in being a lifelong learner is a legacy my sister and I were proud to uphold. I value
knowledge and finding ways to share knowledge with others. I believe that everyone has a right to
learn using the methodology that works best for their own personal learning style. I believe that in
higher education, we are too slow to change or keep up with modernizing how students are taught.
Thus, my passion to share any insight gained is ever vigilant inside of me and the projects I choose to
work on for this PhD program are centered around sharing knowledge with every type of student.
Other key indicators to my way of knowing include my family and my faith. After losing my Mom
and Sister to cancer, it was my faith and family that taught me how to move through the grief, because
as I learned, you never truly overcome this type of pain. During this challenging time in my life, I
used knowledge to help explain several of the struggles I encountered. Yet, I am mindful that not
everyone is open to my faith and while I do not profess it, I do understand and empathize

The Problem With 24 Hour News
Dustin Wisby English II Ms. Stewart 9 21 2014 The Problem with 24 Hour News biasness of each
During any breaking news segment on any 24 hour news coverage channel there seems to always be
problems and mistakes that are made by reporters for not having the correct information on the story.
Also when there is no significant stories to report on there seems to be a cycle of information that each
news channel tries to throw at you. Examples of this would be presidential stories, repeating stories
over and over, and so on. Just imagine if one had to have something to say constantly about anything
and everything they could find. Would that not get annoying listening to one person speak all day
every day about anything they could find. So why do we have these problems and is it even good for
the people of the United States to have twenty four hour news channels? At the beginning of television
news an arrangement existed between television journalists and the public. It was look at as that in
modern times promotion journalism was normal. The United States was the modern, broadminded
leader of the free world. When Walter Cronkite reported on the daily count of deaths of American
soldiers in Vietnam, in lead to the antiwar disapprovals of the 1960s. One man changed how the
United States look at the war with his power and influence to change people opinions. (Mann) With
rise of CNN, the first 24 Hour News, in the early 1980s continued practice of promotion journalism.

Vince Lombardi, A Visionary And Ethical Leader
On December 26, 1960, the Green Bay Packers were down 17 13 late in the game against the
Philadelphia Eagles. Quarterback, Bart Starr took the field with one minute remaining to try and lead
his team to victory in the National Football League Championship game. Ultimately, the Packers
would come up ten yards short as Vince Lombardi would suffer his second straight championship
defeat. A dejected Lombardi was quoted as telling his players, That will never happen again. You will
never lose another championship game. (ALFCA, 2017) One thing was for certain, when Lombardi
said something, he meant it. Vince Lombardi was no doubt a visionary and ethical leader. Due to his
rough leadership style, he may not have been the poster boy for professionalism that we expect from
our senior leaders today, but his players looked up to him, played hard for him, and believed in him
because he displayed visionary and ethical traits to get the best out of his players. This paper will
highlight the areas that made Vince Lombardi a visionary and ethical leader. These traits include
understanding diversity, practicing transformational leadership, critical thinking, and ethical
leadership.

Vince Lombardi was a champion of diversity at a time when it wasn t popular to bring African

Irish in America Essay
Irish in America
America is a melting pot of different cultures, religions, ideas and identities, a country which over the
years has been molded, shaped and changed by its people. There are many historical factors that gone
into creating the country as we know it today, but none so influential as the immigration of millions to
the land of opportunity . The millions of people who came to the United States in hopes of finding a
better life greatly affected the course of American history, bring the the country new cultures, customs

They had no money to push West and did not have the knowledge and skill to undertake large scale
farming in the South.(6) Settling in the urban areas caused great crowding of the cities. The native
inhabitants quickly chose to move out of the neighborhoods newly settled by Irish immigrants.(7)
Their movement was influenced by the poverty of the newcomers; they did not want to live amongst
the immigrant s squalor. However, the Irish took this unwelcoming behavior in stride, they, . . . had a
sense of identity and cohesion as a people oppressed by foreigners in their native land, (8) which
helped them to stay together during the rough transition to American life. Irish Catholics lived in the
slums, often cramming 4 families into a 1 family apartment. Although the basement, attic and tar paper
urban dwellings were bleak and depressing, at least American cities provided the company of their
own misery sharing people. (9) Irish Catholics depended greatly on their community and so it was a
great relief to have support groups in their new home, even if the quality of life was extremely low.
The streets were full of garbage and raw sewage flowed through open trenches. Disease was rampant,
as were rats and mice. Concentrated almost exclusively in Irish neighborhoods, cholera swept through
Boston, along with tuberculosis and typhoid.(10) Life expectancy was 40, but many did not even live

The Controversy Of Organ Donation In China
Lawmakers should pass a motion urging China to immediately put a stop on the alleged forced organ
harvesting of Christian prisoners, according to two Canadian lawyers who brought the claims to
Australia s Parliament House.
On Monday, human rights lawyer David Matas and former prosecutor David Kilgour came to
Australia s House of Parliament claiming to have evidence of China performing between 60,000 and
100,000 organ transplants every year. The Canadian lawyers say the only plausible explanation for the
source of the harvested organs is the killing of Christians, Muslim Uighurs, Tibetan Buddhist, and
Falun gong practitioners, The Associated Press (AP) relays.
However, Matas and Kilgour did not present proof of the alleged organ sourcing. This is not the first
time that such claims have been made, but the opacity of China s legal system does not allow much
room for independent verification of the said issue. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Benefits Of Raising Minimum Wage
Creating jobs, raising minimum wage, donating to the poor are not going to erase the poverty out of
the United States of America. The government defines poverty as the bottom fifteen percent of annual
income. No matter what one does to increase a person s income there will always be someone in
poverty. Across America there are always charities, religious groups, and civic clubs who are giving to
the poor from food giveaways, clothing giveaways, free tutoring, free health screenings, whatever else
there is constantly something for the poor to benefit from. The problem is that people want to help, but
if they are constantly giving the needy these items, services, or money, then are the poor becoming

If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime ( Chinese par. 1). This ancient proverb has some
truth in it. Right now in America, the poor are not being taught how to fish instead they are relying on
charities to give away food and clothing for them to survive. Through work readiness programs and a
reform in food and clothing distribution, charities can cut the parasite of the dependent poor and
prepare them to go out and earn what they need. Job preparation programs are an excellent way to
minister the poor and needy by preparing them for the future and empowering them to be able to take
care of themselves. In Seat Pleasant, Maryland, the Training Source offers job training program, self
improvement workshops, and skill training. The Training Source is teaching those who do not have
jobs, job skills which will equip them and help them to find a job (Singletary par. 9). Once the poor
and needy have a job, they will not need to rely on donations of food and clothing to survive. In my
hometown, Anniston, Alabama, the Christians Women s Job Corp and the Christian Men s Job Corp
pairs men and women up with mentors who will help the needy with obtaining their GED,
interviewing skills, resume building, how to dress for success, and applying for jobs. The job corps
also provide, upon completion of classes, interview appropriate clothing and transportation to job

experts say this up and coming quarterback class is the best since the 1983 class, which featured Hall

the later rounds of this particular draft because in the same fashion other teams are in need at the

to the troop singing and dancing around in a house he is trying to control. Throughout the play we

Correlation between Violent Video Game Playing and Violent...
In 2005, Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a law into effect for the state of California that would prohibit
anyone under the age of 18 from playing Mature (M) rated violent video games. If there were any
violators of this law, a hefty fine of $1,000 would have been issued. However on July 23rd, 2011, the
Supreme Court did not have enough evidence and revoked this law claiming that it is unconstitutional
and violates the 1st amendment (Mears). Even though video game makers scored a huge victory, the
problem still exists. Research confirms that children are spending an increasing amount of time
playing top rated violent video games. On average, boys are playing 13 hours a night, while girls are
playing only 5 hours a night ( Children and Videos ). In comparison, 97% of children between the ages
of 12 and 17 reported playing video games, while 2/3 of them played video games that contained
violent content ( Violent ). As the number of children playing video games continues to increase, the
amount of violence seen in the real world is increasing as well. The horrific acts of violence (killings,
intense violence, strong language, and sexual context) that are situated in these games are becoming
more common in the real world because children are imitating these fierce actions. Moreover, violent
video games are influencing violence among children by influencing aggressive behavior, lowering
the amount of time spent towards education, and incorporating dangerous content into these video

Why We Should Be More Open Minded
What if I told you someone took $20 from cash register at Wal Mart how would you feel/think? Would
you look down on them? Would you be mad that they just took the money while you go to work and
earn your money? Would you feel sorry for them? Now what if I told you that person owns the store
and was going to give the money to a family who was homeless? Would your opinion change about
that person? When people are closed minded, they jump to conclusions. They only believe that there is
only one answer or solutions. More people should be more opened minded because they are willing to
receive new or different ideas, information, and beliefs. I am going to talk about why it is a problem
being closed minded, how to be more open minded, and why you should be more open minded. Most
of us are brought up with a set of beliefs and values and, throughout our lives, tend to surround
ourselves with people who share the same values and beliefs. Therefore, it can be difficult when we re
faced with ideas that challenge our own and, though we may wish to be open minded, we may
struggle with the act of it from time to time.(Positively present) The problem with being closed
minded is they use hostility, prejudice, indifference, and inattention to keep new or different ideas
from gaining a foothold. Basically they don t try to let new ideas or beliefs cross their minds. Also
people who are closed minded don t want to learn or change their opinion on certain beliefs. They like

Compare and Contrast Captivity Narratives Essay
Contrasting and Comparing Captivity Narratives The captivity narrative genre includes writings by or
about people captured by an enemy, usually one who is considered by the hostage to be a foreign and
uncivilized heathen, and was especially popular in America and England in the seventeenth through
late nineteenth centuries. Documents from the time show that between 1675 and 1763, at least 1,641
New Englanders were held in captivity as hostages, though many believe that the numbers are
drastically low because of poor record keeping (Vaughan, 53). Regardless of the exact number of
hostages, the fact is that thousands of people were profoundly affected by being held captive by the
Indians. Some of those people, including Mary Rowlandson, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She writes that at one point, an Indian couple told her they would help her escape and even go with
her. She declined saying that she would wait for God s time, that [she] might go home quietly, and
without fear (Rowlandson 94). At one point, during Cabeza de Vaca s escape from one tribe of
Indians, other Indians asked for him to heal their sick. These Indians, like those who allowed
Rowlandson a Bible to read, did not prevent their captives from keeping their own religion (Cabeza de
Vaca 19). Mary Jemison had a markedly different captivity experience. In the late 1750s, when
Jemison was just fifteen years old, her family was captured by the Seneca Indians. Soon after they
were captured, Jemison saw her family murdered and scalped. Like Rowlandson and Cabeza de Vaca,
she was initially in fear for her life. She expected at any moment that she too would be scalped by her
captors. At the same time, like Rowlandson, she was just as frightened by the idea of escape. She
lamented that should she sneak away that she would be alone and defenseless in the forest, surrounded
by wild beasts that were ready to devour her (Seaver). Jemison was given to two squaws as a
replacement for a brother who was lost in war. After a ritual of mourning, the female Indians dressed
Jemison in native clothing, renamed her Deh he wä mis which meant pretty girl and accepted her as
one of their own. She learned their way of life

Sociological Concepts In The Film Roger Me
The film Roger Me shows the rise and fall of an industrial city, Flint, MI. Knowing that Sociology was
born during the industrial revolution makes this movie a fascinating choice, considering it displays the
fall of an industrial city. It gives a wonderful opportunity to evaluate many different sociological
perspectives. Personally, before watching this video, I thought that Flint was just a dead town filled
with a bunch of lazy, violent people. A couple of concepts that I would like to focus on in this paper is
GM s bureaucracy, that lead to downward social mobility, causing people to stereotype the ex GM
workers.
Watching this video the first thing I noticed was the fact that GM was a bureaucracy. A formal
organization with a hierarchy of authority and a clear division of labor; emphasis on impersonality of
positions and written rules, communications, and records (Henslin, 2015, p. 136). One of GMs
hierarchies, Roger Smith, used his power to lay off tens of thousands of people in the city of Flint.
This is also a clear display of a bureaucracy, in showing how very impersonal and disconnected he
was from his workers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

GM were middle class citizens, but the current generation that was laid off had become lower class
citizens. Michaels High School classmate said, he wanted something of his own but it doesn t look

Theme Of Enigma By Thomas Moore
Enigma by Thomas Moore
Thomas Moore (1779 1852) was an Irish poet. He is best remembered for his collection Irish Melodies
in which he set words to traditional Irish folk tunes; these songs include The Minstrel Boy , Dear Harp
of My Country and The Last Rose of Summer . He also wrote a large number of comical and satirical
poems, of which the poem Enigma is one.
Enigma takes the form of a riddle and it opens:
Come, riddle me ree, come, riddle me ree,
And tell me what my name may be.
In the poem the United Kingdom s national debt, the unstated answer to the riddle, is likened to the
monster of Frankenstein . And it is not just in this simile that the poem has connections with
Frankenstein : throughout the poem the description and actions of the Enigma bear a marked similarity
with those of the creature in Shelley s novel. In the first stanza, the Enigma is described as a corpulent
giant who stalk[s] hungry and bloated around . This compares with Walton s description at the end of
the novel, where he finds the creature gigantic in stature, yet uncouth and distorted in its proportions .

How Does Cesium 137 Change In The Environment
Chemical elements can exist in different types which are called isotopes. Isotopes have protons,

device should be considered with care and be seen as a dangerous object. How does Cesium 137
change in the environment? When Cesium 137 comes in contact with the environment it will decay
with division of beta particles and strong gamma radiation. When Cesium 137 decays it will go to
Barium 137 which is a shot lived product which in turn decays to become a nonradioactive isotope
called barium. Cesium moves easily through the environment which makes the clean up of Cesium
137 very difficult. What happens to it in the body? When Cesium is taken into the body of a human, it
is either done by eating food, drinking water or breathing air. As soon as the Cesium is ingested into
the body it has a similar attribute as potassium, it will distribute through the body at a rapid rate. When
the stomach and intestines absorb water and food is the primary source of distribution of Cesium,
which means all Cesium that is ingested within the body does find its way into the blood stream,
mainly done through the

CBRN Tactics
When talking about CBRN devices and tactics that may be used in a terrorist attack, people envidiblity
think about what is commonly referred to as a dirty bomb , or a RDD (radiological dispersal device).
This type of device offers many advantages to an individual or group wanting to cause harm or more
importantly cause terror. These types of devices are rudimentary in design and their basic purpose is to
spread radioactive debris in a manner that it will be absorbed by as many people as possible. The
means of spreading this material can come in various forms. The typical design would involve
explosives and a radioactive element that would disperse rapidly upon activation of the explosive
device. There are other methods that a terrorist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Any type of bomb is going to cause damage purely from the energy that is released when the device
detonates. There is great amount of kinetic force that is released in the form of a shock wave. This
alone can cause death, as well as serious injury to people in the area, and the severity of this injury is
determined by the strength of the device and proximity to the actual event at the time of detonation.
Secondary injuries or casualties might be caused from materials that are projected by the force of the
blast. Furniture, building materials, and in some cases, people themselves can be thrown with such
force that upon impact with another person can cause grave damage. Next there is a thermal element
to such a device. Detonation of any explosive creates a large amount of heat that is a by product of the
chemical reaction of the explosive material as it is set off. People in the immediate area would be
severely injured or killed by this element alone. Once again the radius of damage would be
proportional to the relative proximity to the device upon detonation. Last but not least with this type of
device is the radiological property. The explosive element is almost secondary as it serves as a
delivery method for the

Superiority Theory In Reflections Upon Laughter
Superiority theory was therefore confirmed by the superior members of society refraining from
laughing. In Reflections Upon Laughter, Hutcheson argued against Hobbes s claim that the essential
feature of laughter is expressing feelings of superiority is. If Hobbes were right, claims Hutcheson,
there can be no laughter where we do not compare ourselves with others or with some former state of
ourselves and whenever we feel sudden glory, we laugh. But neither of these is true. We sometimes
laugh at an odd metaphor or simile, for example, without comparing ourselves to anyone. Not only are
feelings of superiority not necessary for amusement, Hutcheson argued, but they are not sufficient,
either. We have feelings of superiority toward people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike the superiority theory which aims at social reform through the emotional side of humour,
incongruity theory aims at social reform through the cognitive side. The cognitive juxtaposition of
contrary interests and attitudes is the key to comedy in Bernard Shaw. The slum dwellers and
landlords in Widower s House, romantic and realistic attitudes to war in Arms and the Man, external
polish and internal instincts in Pygmalion provide comic juxtaposition and create humour with satire.
This approach was taken by James Beattie, Immanuel Kant, Soren Kierkegaard, Arthur Schopenhauer,
and many later philosophers and psychologists. It is now the dominant theory of humor in philosophy
and psychology. As Robert Latta and others have pointed out, the words incongruous and incongruity
are used sloppily in many versions of the theory. The dictionary says that incongruous things are
characterized by a lack of harmony, consistency, or compatibility with one another. Congruere in Latin
means to come together, to agree. In geometry, congruent triangles have the same shape and size; one
fits exactly over the other (104). Paul McGhee s uses the term incongruity interchangeably with
absurdity, ridiculousness, and the ludicrous. McGhee offers a second definition of incongruity:
something unexpected, out of context, inappropriate, unreasonable, illogical, exaggerated, and so
forth. (10). The core concept in incongruity theories is based on the fact that human experience works
with learned patterns. Most of the time, most experiences of most people follow such mental patterns.
The future turns out like the past. But sometimes we perceive or imagine a thing whose parts or

Personal Narrative-The Scanner
In high school, our class took a trip to see the inside of a Camp, and every now and then, I have very
vivid nightmares about it. The Prisoners wore ragged clothing, and they looked like they hadn t taken
a shower in weeks. The labor was very intensive. Many of them were carrying heavy boxes up several
flights of stairs and dozens were operating machinery without any breaks. I remember one man who
asked a guard if he could have a drink of water, and he was immediately greeted by a whip. He
screamed in agonizing pain, and there was blood seeping from the pores of his arm and back. His eyes
quickly pooled with tears, and our eyes met for one brief second. One second was all I needed to see

Tourism As A Tourist Country Essay
Tourism Advertised in Thailand
Many people who travel are attracted to an authentic experience often portrayed by the media that can
create an opportunity to learn about different cultures. Gaining tourism knowledge about foreign
cultures is now an easy task through the development of globalization. Stroma Cole, an activist
researcher on tourism development, suggests that growth in tourism should be thought of as a cause
and consequence of globalization (Chambers, 2010 p, 21) and that the development of high
technology in the media has been very influential on promoting tourism. The media has become a
main source for travel information that has direct effect on decisions people make on where to travel,
tourist trends, and on their expectations of their experience (Leung, Law Hoof, Buhalis 2013). I chose
to research advertisements of Thailand, a popular tourist country, because of its recent dramatic
increase in the number of tourists since the start of the new millennium, and because it has appealed to
me as a tourist attraction. Through my analysis of advertisements of multiple media sources I have
found examples of advertisements that promote the branding of cultural and indigenous tourism in
Thailand. I relate to Erve Chambers, the author of Native Tours (2010) research on the authentic
image that is used in many ads to catch the attention of tourists and I discuss how people do not
always experience what was promoted in the media.

The Tactics Used By The Media
We live in a society that has compromised and diluted our so called free will. Everything that we do,
say, and buy has been motivated and influenced by the media and what our world has deemed
adequate and acceptable. Some of what is portrayed to us by the media is obvious, but often,
companies use covert tactics to manipulate us into becoming the optimal consumers, those who will
buy what we are told, despite whether or not need or even want the products that are being displayed
to us. One of the brilliant tactics used by corporations is called subliminal messaging. Webster s

This term subliminal advertising was popularized in a 1957 by a book called The Hidden Persuaders

popcorn and Coca Cola. (2) Vicary claimed that he has created a phycological experiment to
determining the effects of such subliming messages on the consumers that paralleled what was said to
be happening in the theatre. He supposedly, ...arranged for the words drink Coca Cola and eat popcorn

displayed the words for a single frame, which was, allegedly, ... long enough for the subconscious to
pick up, but too short for the viewer to be aware of it. (5) Due to the messages being forced on the
consumer, Vicary claimed that Coke sales within the theatre sky rocketed by 18% and popcorn sales
sky rocketed by 58%. (6) In his book, he stated that these results prove that the minds of the
individuals that he tested were influenced by the subliminal messages in the films. (2) This lead him to
draw the conclusion that simply putting words on a screen for a period of time not recognizable to the
conscious mind can influence human behavior. In this case, Vicary said that the

sixth, seventh, and eighth grade boys basketball teams. I was part of a three person interview panel
that featured our principal, athletic director, and me. This interview process was the first time I ve
been a part of hiring someone to feel a need at the school. The topic we interviewed is something I
was comfortable with because I have coached basketball the past six years. I felt like I could find us
the right fit and discussed the opportunity to be a part of the hiring process because of the need of this
internship activity. It s hard to find an interview process during the year for teachers, but I believe

candidate that could be a role model for the students and help teach them life lessons through the
game of basketball. We all agreed we are looking for someone who will stress that basketball doesn t
come above our education and our families. Our school has struggled with student achievement and I

Nursing Succession Planning Essay
Setting
Lack of succession planning among the nursing workforce is expected to have a rippling affect across
all care settings and worldwide in the years to come. Research supports that nurse manager s actions
have the potential to influence outcomes in all care settings (Titzer, Phillips, Tooley, Hall, Shirley,
2013). Presently, the nursing workforce is experiencing higher levels of turnover among first line
managers than among senior leadership positions (Titzer et al., 2013). Organizations are encouraged to

Despite these suggestions, as many as 70% of hospitals still actively lack succession planning
initiatives and over a third of existing nurse succession plans primarily focus on top level management
positions (Titzer, Shirley Hauck, 2014). With more than 44% of nurses in management positions
reported to be over the age of 55 and the cost of replacing nurse managers climbing to 75 125% of
typical annual salaries, organization s need to turn increasing attention to proactive succession
planning in order to remain viable in the healthcare industry (Sverdlik, 2012; Titzer et al., 2013).
Increasing pressures to fill vacancies is resulting in clinically skilled but often underprepared nurses
being selected for nursing leadership positions (Titzer Shirley, 2013). Lack of formal preparation
renders many aspiring nurse managers ineffective which has been associated with negative
implications such as role transition stress, poor work environment, and increased turnover (Titzer
Shirley, 2013). This is further complicated by a lack of interest among younger novice nurses in
leadership and management roles (Titzer et al., 2013). As such, the proposed succession planning

The Battle Of The Atlantic
The Battle of the Atlantic
(03 September 1939 to 08 May 1945)
I. Background
The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest continuous military campaign in World War II, running from
1939 to the defeat of Germany in 1945. At its core was the Allied naval blockade of Germany,
announced the day after the declaration of war, and Germany s subsequent counter blockade. It was at
its height from mid 1940 through to the end of 1943. The Battle of the Atlantic pitted U boats and
other warships of the Kriegsmarine (German Navy) and aircraft of the Luftwaffe (German Air Force)
against the Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Navy, and Allied merchant shipping. The convoys, coming
mainly from North America and mainly going to the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union, were
protected for the most part by the British and Canadian navies and air forces. These forces were aided
by ships and aircraft of the United States from September 13, 1941. The Germans were joined by
submarines of the Italian Royal Navy (Regia Marina) after their Axis ally Italy entered the war on
June 10, 1940.
As an island nation, the United Kingdom was highly dependent on imported goods. Britain required
more than a million tons of imported material per week in order to be able to survive and fight. In
essence, the Battle of the Atlantic was a tonnage war: the Allied struggle to supply Britain and the
Axis attempt to stem the flow of merchant shipping which enabled Britain to keep fighting. From

marriage has been under constant backlash due to the idea that the true marriage and a real family is

union of a male and female back in the 1950 s, things change over time and with it news things are

The International Labour Organization and Its Attempt to...
Introduction This essay will look at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and its attempts to
alleviate child labour up until now. Firstly, a definition of child labour will be provided after which an
introductory overview will be given about the ILO s activities against child labour. Thereafter, a
critical assessment will be provided regarding the ILO s steps against child labour, and some major
problems will be highlighted regarding the ILO s approach to eliminate child labour. Defining Child
Labour Mowing the lawn, washing the car and dishes, or cleaning the kitchen are the types of tasks
that most children dislike to do. However, tasks such as these are not defined as child labour.
Generally speaking, child labour is defined as something along the lines of: Labour that exploits
children and restricts their mental and physical development , and thus household chores, in most
cases, cannot be considered to be a form of child labour. However, labour that is not appropriate for
children, such as working with dangerous machinery, mining, or work that exposes children to sexual
abuse, can be defined as child labour. This is due to the fact that, in situations like the ones described,
children are exposed to exploitation and to circumstances that are detrimental to their physical and
mental health. That being said, labour in itself is not considered to be necessarily a bad thing for

The minds of humans are imperfect. It is for this reason that it is often easy to mistake fantasies and
reality. Fantasies can be described as wishful thinking, as imagining something perfect and they may

senses and experience. In Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes, many different kinds of women are
encountered throughout the adventures of Don Quixote. There are poor peasants, rich vassals,
prostitutes, and even shepherdess. Women in this novel seem to fall under either women of fantasy or
as a women of reality. There is a stark difference between the two groups of women, but sometimes
they are so sublime that they may even jump between women of fantasy and those of reality. Dorotea,
the rich peasant and wife of the nobleman Don Fernando, and Luscinda, a very wealthy women and
wife to Cardenio, would fall explicitly into the category of sublime women which can transcend from
reality to fantasy and work their way between either realm. Dulcinea and Aldonza Lorenza fall into
categories the very contrasting categories of fantasy and reality, respectively. Therefore, Luscinda,
Dorotea, and Dulcinea serve as the fantastical ideals that men desire women to be, but truth of the
matter is that most women of the time were what Aldonza Lorenzo was a women of reality.
As far as the most ordinary woman of the three fantastical women of part I, Luscinda is the one that
most fits that

  • 2. Latin American Independence Movement Research Paper I believe the Latin American Independence movements failed when compared to other revolutions because of lack of planning, race relations, and major dependence on colonial powers. In the American Revolution there were great men who stood back and took the time with Constitutional Conventions to sit down and decide what everyone wanted and what would please everyone. Sure the Articles of Confederation didn t work out, but they took the kinks and worked through it to create the Constitution. This was not the case with Simon Bolivar and the Grand Columbia. He knew what he wanted to happen, but didn t stick around to help see it through. Once he left to go help others gain their independence the people, mostly creoles made power grabs. Instead of coming together as a nation they only wanted their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The people did not see themselves as one nation, but separate entities. Even the people inside the new nations saw themselves as entirely different people. There were the indigenous, the African, the creoles, the mulattos, and so on. Plus, independence did not bring a better way of life for most individuals. In fact, as professor clay pointed out in class, a lot of people were very poor and the situation became worse with independence. Some people who had money before found themselves losing wealth instead of the other way around. In independence movements there is this ideal that once independence happens everyone will be better off, but there is a period of losing money. In the Latin American countries the wealth had become so great among the creoles and the upper classes that this was a scary idea so they began to make plays for power. This is in contrast to the American Revolution where America was in debt to France, but they were focused on making the nation work rather than the debt they owed. Of course, this all lead to the French ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How To Write An Informative Speech On Open Heart Surgery We ve all heard of open heart surgery, but not all of us know exactly what it is, which is why I m here to explain it. To start it off, heart surgery, according to MedlinePlus, is any surgery done on the heart muscle, valves, arteries, or the aorta and other large arteries connected to the heart. However, there is also open heart surgery, which although sounds the same there are quite some differences, for when doing open heart surgery, you re going to have to be connected to a bypass machine during surgery, for your heart has been stopped because of it. Other than stopping your heart, the bypass machine is able to give you the necessary oxygen that your blood needs, move that blood throughout your whole body, and get rid of carbon dioxide. ... • 4. Reflection Paper On Positionality My positionality is composed both of cultural aspects and personal lived experiences that engender me towards certain perspectives (Holmes, 2014), thus introducing subjectivity in my research. As such, I must understand where my positionality is derived from to ensure that my research remains as truthful as possible (Holmes, 20014). I must remain self conscious about my own views and positions and how they may influence my design, execution and interpretation of the research data findings (Greenback, 2003). Understanding my own positionality further guides me to remain cognizant of it while practicing and sustaining reflexivity throughout my research. Berger (2013) remarks it as a means of acknowledging my own subjectivity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My mother s divorce from my dad and her need to raise four children, which fueled and led her to a successful and profitable career. Her perseverance and urgency to change how women were seen in the workforce, led her to raise two daughters with the same affiliations and directions. Moreover, my mother s belief in being a lifelong learner is a legacy my sister and I were proud to uphold. I value knowledge and finding ways to share knowledge with others. I believe that everyone has a right to learn using the methodology that works best for their own personal learning style. I believe that in higher education, we are too slow to change or keep up with modernizing how students are taught. Thus, my passion to share any insight gained is ever vigilant inside of me and the projects I choose to work on for this PhD program are centered around sharing knowledge with every type of student. In 2005, Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a law into effect for the state of California that would prohibit anyone under the age of 18 from playing Mature (M) rated violent video games. If there were any violators of this law, a hefty fine of $1,000 would have been issued. Documents from the time show that between 1675 and 1763, at least 1,641 New Englanders were held in captivity as hostages, though many believe that the numbers are drastically low because of poor record keeping (Vaughan, 53). At one point, during Cabeza de Vaca s escape from one tribe of Indians, other Indians asked for him to heal their sick. These Indians, like those who allowed Rowlandson a Bible to read, did not prevent their captives from keeping their own religion (Cabeza de Vaca 19). Mary Jemison had a markedly different captivity experience. In the late 1750s, when Jemison was just fifteen years old, her family was captured by the Seneca Indians. Soon after they were captured, Jemison saw her family murdered and scalped. Like Rowlandson and Cabeza de Vaca, she was initially in fear for her life. She expected at any moment that she too would be scalped by her captors. At the same time, like Rowlandson, she was just as frightened by the idea of escape. She lamented that should she sneak away that she would be alone and defenseless in the forest, surrounded by wild beasts that were ready to devour her (Seaver). Jemison was given to two squaws as a replacement for a brother who was lost in war. This approach was taken by James Beattie, Immanuel Kant, Soren Kierkegaard, Arthur Schopenhauer, and many later philosophers and psychologists. It is now the dominant theory of humor in philosophy and psychology. • 24. Personal Narrative-The Scanner In high school, our class took a trip to see the inside of a Camp, and every now and then, I have very vivid nightmares about it. The Prisoners wore ragged clothing, and they looked like they hadn t taken a shower in weeks. The labor was very intensive. Many of them were carrying heavy boxes up several flights of stairs and dozens were operating machinery without any breaks. I remember one man who asked a guard if he could have a drink of water, and he was immediately greeted by a whip. He screamed in agonizing pain, and there was blood seeping from the pores of his arm and back. His eyes quickly pooled with tears, and our eyes met for one brief second. It was a massive arch with a multitude of colors consisting of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet, with each color occupying an equal segment of space. It was clear that none of us had ever witnessed a meteorological phenomenon like this. It caused the Scanners to become angry and confused because they were used to the constant stormy weather. Tourism As A Tourist Country Essay Tourism Advertised in Thailand Many people who travel are attracted to an authentic experience often portrayed by the media that can create an opportunity to learn about different cultures. Gaining tourism knowledge about foreign cultures is now an easy task through the development of globalization. Stroma Cole, an activist researcher on tourism development, suggests that growth in tourism should be thought of as a cause and consequence of globalization (Chambers, 2010 p, 21) and that the development of high technology in the media has been very influential on promoting tourism. The media has become a main source for travel information that has direct effect on decisions people make on where to travel, tourist trends, and on their expectations of their experience (Leung, Law Hoof, Buhalis 2013). I chose to research advertisements of Thailand, a popular tourist country, because of its recent dramatic increase in the number of tourists since the start of the new millennium, and because it has appealed to me as a tourist attraction. Through my analysis of advertisements of multiple media sources I have found examples of advertisements that promote the branding of cultural and indigenous tourism in Thailand. I relate to Erve Chambers, the author of Native Tours (2010) research on the authentic image that is used in many ads to catch the attention of tourists and I discuss how people do not always experience what was promoted in the media. Everything that we do, say, and buy has been motivated and influenced by the media and what our world has deemed adequate and acceptable. Background The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest continuous military campaign in World War II, running from 1939 to the defeat of Germany in 1945. At its core was the Allied naval blockade of Germany, announced the day after the declaration of war, and Germany s subsequent counter blockade. It was at its height from mid 1940 through to the end of 1943. The Battle of the Atlantic pitted U boats and other warships of the Kriegsmarine (German Navy) and aircraft of the Luftwaffe (German Air Force) against the Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Navy, and Allied merchant shipping. The convoys, coming mainly from North America and mainly going to the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union, were protected for the most part by the British and Canadian navies and air forces. These forces were aided by ships and aircraft of the United States from September 13, 1941. The Germans were joined by submarines of the Italian Royal Navy (Regia Marina) after their Axis ally Italy entered the war on June 10, 1940. As an island nation, the United Kingdom was highly dependent on imported goods. Britain required more than a million tons of imported material per week in order to be able to survive and fight. Thereafter, a critical assessment will be provided regarding the ILO s steps against child labour, and some major problems will be highlighted regarding the ILO s approach to eliminate child labour. Defining Child Labour Mowing the lawn, washing the car and dishes, or cleaning the kitchen are the types of tasks that most children dislike to do. However, tasks such as these are not defined as child labour. Generally speaking, child labour is defined as something along the lines of: Labour that exploits children and restricts their mental and physical development , and thus household chores, in most cases, cannot be considered to be a form of child labour. However, labour that is not appropriate for children, such as working with dangerous machinery, mining, or work that exposes children to sexual abuse, can be defined as child labour. This is due to the fact that, in situations like the ones described, children are exposed to exploitation and to circumstances that are detrimental to their physical and mental health. • 41. The Minds Of Humans Are Imperfect The minds of humans are imperfect. It is for this reason that it is often easy to mistake fantasies and reality. Fantasies can be described as wishful thinking, as imagining something perfect and they may or may not have their roots based on reality. Therefore, reality is what we can deduce from the fives senses and experience. In Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes, many different kinds of women are encountered throughout the adventures of Don Quixote. There are poor peasants, rich vassals, prostitutes, and even shepherdess. Women in this novel seem to fall under either women of fantasy or as a women of reality. There is a stark difference between the two groups of women, but sometimes they are so sublime that they may even jump between women of fantasy and those of reality. Dorotea, the rich peasant and wife of the nobleman Don Fernando, and Luscinda, a very wealthy women and wife to Cardenio, would fall explicitly into the category of sublime women which can transcend from reality to fantasy and work their way between either realm. Dulcinea and Aldonza Lorenza fall into categories the very contrasting categories of fantasy and reality, respectively. Therefore, Luscinda, Dorotea, and Dulcinea serve as the fantastical ideals that men desire women to be, but truth of the matter is that most women of the time were what Aldonza Lorenzo was a women of reality.
