Exploring the Boundaries between Alternative Medicine and...
Alternative medicine has been considered the hidden mainstream of patient care in America. As
biomedicine increased in popularity, alternative methods of healing arose as a response to the
treatments used by physicians. Historically, alternative (or complementary ) medicine conveyed
itself by highlighting its natural attributes. These characteristics attracted those who were wary of
the chemicals used in allopathic medicines. Much of the skepticism that has accompanied
complementary alternative medicine(CAM) stems from the lack of scientifically based evidence
that shows its efficacy; there is no alternative medicinethere is simply unproven medicine
(Fontanarosa and Lundberg 1618). This argument suggests that medicine and... Show more content

The founder of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann, was originally an MD who regularly practiced
biomedicine in the late 1700s (Whorton 49). Homeopathic ideology involves treating a disease
with cures that produce similar effects as the disease ( same suffering ) as opposed to treating a
disease with substances that are meant to produce opposite effects ( allopathy ) (Whorton 52). As
Hahnemann progressed in his practice as a physician, he began to lose trust in the worth of the
treatments he provided treatments he had been taught would be effective for their target disease.
He claimed that medicine was founded upon perhapses and blind chance and were not tailored to
cure the diseases of individual patients; medicine saw disease as something finite and similarly
experienced across patients with similar illnesses (Whorton 56). Hahnemann believed that
conventional medicine is objective and independent of a patient s perspective of his or her own
disease; it is an impersonal approach to personal problems. For example, a headache could mean
something different to separate individuals because each of them may experience it differently.
Consequently, he made his homeopathic remedies specific to his patients (Whorton 57).
Since the dilutions of homeopathic remedies reached nearly infinitesimal quantities of an actual
drug, many homeopaths believed that some sort of spirit was an

Problems That Young People Face
Jarron Brind Young people s issues essay Youths these days have a lot of problems dealing with
stress, depression, family issues and a lot more, most of the problems that cause stress are in
school and college. Young people s lives can be complicated and affected by many issues which
can impact on their well being. The stress of school life, particularly at exam times, can be hard
to manage and can lead some people to feel very anxious and over loaded. Teenagers are aware
that they need to get good grades if they want to go to college or get a job but this can be hard if
there are other things going on for them like problems at home or maybe at school, such as
bullying and alienation. I think this could make young people feel very... Show more content on

Sadly sometimes people they know will die, such as their grandparents or other relatives, or
even friends, and this would be difficult to cope with on top of other stresses they might have. It
is a very serious and sad fact that nearly a quarter of teenagers have suffered some form of abuse
in Britain, which is about 1 in 30 people, this could lead to trauma and an inability to work or
concentrate knowing that this is happening, also they may feel scared to speak up about it and
never have this problem fixed, causing them to be shy and have an inability to trust people. they
could also find a different way to cope with it like excessive eating and get an eating disorder,
self harming or drug use. Also teenagers have a very specific stereotype hoody, jeans,
vandalism, violence and chav but with this the youths can either stoop to social pressure and
dress like everyone else or they can be an outcast and be individual, it is extremely rare that you
find an individual person being accepted by teenagers. Some of these stereotypes are correct for
some people, like stealing and looking for fights but with some people, they could be really nice,
but because society has belittled them people think that they should cross the street rather than
walking through a crowd of chavs . Teenagers can have stress at school or at home,

Edgar Hoover s Accomplishments
J. Edgar Hoover, born January 1st 1895, was the director of the FBI from 1924 until his death in
1972. In this paper I will be discussing J. Edgar Hoover s childhood, the timeline of his career,
and his legacy. Hoover lived in Washington, D.C. his whole life. He was born in a white,
Protestant, middle class neighborhood (PBS.org) called Seward Square, few blocks behind the
Capitol. His family had been civil servants for generations . (PBS.org) His dad, Dickerson
Naylor Hoover, worked for the Coast Guard. Hoover was closest to his mother, Annie. She was
the disciplinarian and moral guide of the family. He lived with her until she died in 1938 when he
was 43 years old. Hoover was very competitive as a child. To overcome a stuttering problem, he
taught himself to speak fast, earning the nickname Speed, and then decided to join the high school

Authoritative Parenting Styles Paper
This paper describes how authoritarian, authoritative and permissive parenting styles affects the
behavior of children. There are negative and positive effects that these parenting styles have on the
behavior that children develop. While initially this paper expresses the positive and negative
effects, this paper will also give the most effective and successful parentingstyles in terms of a
higher positive youth development (PYD). Also, the parenting styles are tested by Lerner s five C
s to show which parenting styles are more successful in showing higher PYD levels. Research
suggests that children from specific types of parenting styles are more likely to have better attitudes
towards education and rules. This indicates that children with certain types of parents may be...

Kiadarbandsari, Madon, Hamson and Mehdinezhad Nouri expressed that authoritative parents
display warmth and positive behaviors while setting strict rules and boundaries (2016).
Authoritative parents and their children develop the healthiest relationship because of the support
and discipline that these parents show towards their children (Chang, 2007). In these authoritative
relationships, the child is encouraged through positive behavior. This helps the child develop a high
self esteem while building confidence. In terms of education, authoritative parenting is the most
motivation parenting style. Authoritative parenting yields high academic success in adolescent
children and progresses later through adulthood (Strage Brandt, 1999). Abiding by the five C s,
authoritative parenting promotes an adolescent child s competence, confidence, caring, connection
and character. Therefore, authoritative parental styles yield the highest level of PYD in children

Challenges Faced By Pakistan As An Impoverished Nation And...
Issues of unstable governance are directly related to the difficulties confronted by developing
nations (BU 2014). The government plays a crucial role in uplifting a country and its development.
It can achieve this by managing the country and its problems in a decently proficient manner, taking
the right decisions at the right time, imposing rules and regulations and by setting up viable
strategies to fight the obstacles coming in its way of advancement. Most of the developing
countries tend to face similar problems and require serious governmentreforms in order to defeat
them. Surprisingly, Pakistanis among one of those countries that are tormented by issues such as
poverty, illiteracy, terrorism, civil war and overpopulation. This paper will shed light on some of
the challenges faced by Pakistan as an impoverished nation and also provide some suggestions on
how these issues can be tackled.
Pakistan is an Islamic state located in South Asia that covers an area of 796,095 square kilometers.
It shares border with India, Afghanistan, Iran and China and a marine border with Oman. It came
into existence as an independent nation in 1947 and since then, it has been encompassed by
incalculable issues including underdeveloped infrastructure, infertile and old production lines,
international interference, instable government and corruption underscoring every deliberation

Irish In America Analysis
Discovering the metaphorical pot of gold at the end of the rainbow was a long and arduous
journey for Irish immigrants. The journey was full of unexpected obstacle to overcome on the
path to freedom in the land of opportunity known as America. Of factors leading the Irish to
emigrate from Ireland to America in between 1700 1800, the most significant were due to political
and economic misfortunes suffered by Irish residents who fell victim to English rule. The film, The
Irish in America notes 1800 as being the year that Irish parliament was abolished by an act that
place Irelandunder the rule of English governing. However, as early as the 1700s, were
experiencing religious oppression and economic exploitation. Irish in America traces religious

Major competitors and their products constitution
The major competitive factor of this universe was price war, combining the data from each round,
which each company s strategy was to sell their products at a considerable low price, furthermore,
according to the share price Blue had the highest market value, and Pink was the second highest,
which followed by Fly to Sky. Those Top Three companies took up 44% of market share
collectively. Consequently, those three companies would possibly become the vital competitors in
a long term strategy making.
Blue company: the biggest rival in market share of Tech 3
As it mentioned above, Blue had the cheapest manufacturing cost on Tech 3 products, which
guaranteed them that they could sell their products at a relatively low price in any market, in
addition, our company s strategy was promoting Tech 3 products into Asia, which this could emerge
the direct competitive with them, especially in Asia, which our sales volume was slightly behind
them, 6518K to 6543K.

Proposed Genetic Algorithm Of Protein Tertiary Structure...
In the next subsections, the proposed genetic algorithm of protein tertiary structure prediction will
be described. i)The Proposed Genetic Algorithm Genetic Algorithms (GA) primarily motivated by
the biological theory of evolution, and it was originally developed by J. Holland in 1975 [11]. The
GA is is a search heuristic that mimics the process of natural selection. GA is based on the
operations of population reproduction and selection to acheive optimal results. Through artificial
evolution, successive generations search for fitter adaptations in order to solve a problem. Each
generation consists of a population of chromosomes, representing a series of candidate solutions
(called individuals) to an optimization problem, generally evolves toward better solutions by
applying genetic operations of recombination and mutation to create a new offspring population
from the current population. The process evolution usually starts from a population of randomly
generated individuals or, using domain background knowledge. The generation process repeats for
many generations with the aim of maximizing the objective Function (also called fitness) of the
chromosomes that are evaluated each generation. Usually, the GA termination cindition are set to
the maximum number of generations. ii) Genetic Representation In a GA, a population of
chromosomes, representing a series of candidate solutions (called individuals) to an optimization
problem, generally evolves toward better solutions.

New Look or Yves Saint Laurent s radical push towards prГЄt Г porter. Streetwear, the ever
popular genre of high end casual wear, is not one of them. Instead, the style is something of a
chimera, growing out of several different subcultures and geographic sources. Starting in the late

on their audience by dressing head to toe in Adidas, sporting matching Trifoil tracksuits and

Flat Earth Research Paper
Yesterday I got a new neighbor. He says he is a member of the flat earth society. But he is very
wrong. The earth is not flat at all, it is round. I m going to figure out a way to make him believe
that the earth is not flat. Then he will not be a member of the flat earth society anymore and he can
go prove to his friends that it is not flat. Well to start off, Earthis round and everyone knows that.
The earth was formed from clouds and dust which created stars and other things. The earth s
core was made first because it was like winds were swirling around with all this dust. The gravity
started to pull everything together and then the earth was made. Then the earth s crust was
made. Gravity is the reason why the earth is a sphere. The earth is round because all the sides
have to be equal if you were to measure from the center. And if you were to measure it from the
center then it would be the same length all the way around in anyway that you measured it. Flat
Earth Society members believe the earth is flat because they walk on it and because it looks and

Examples Of Historical Accuracy Of Saving Private Ryan
During World War Two a man name Captain John Miller takes his troops to find Private James
Ryan. During the movie, many people died on Omaha Beach. Historically, many people were
injured and died. Saving Private Ryan takes place during a horrific time, however there are still
some historical inaccuracies. How historically accurate is the movie Saving Private Ryan?
Saving Private Ryan is loosely based on a true story of the Niland Brothers. The Niland Brothers
were four paratroopers during World War Two. Two of them died, however for a period of time it
was thought that only one of them survived until it was discovered that the fourth was being held
captive at a Japanese prisoner of war camp. Even though the movie Saving Private Ryan is only...

In World War II, the Germans used what were called Tiger Tanks . The German tanks in the

not accurate was when the Americans were fighting the Germans in Romello. During this, there
were two Tiger tans, however historically during this there were none in this specific location. All
of the Tiger tanks were at the Canadian and British fronts in Normandy. Another scene that

Frida Kahlo s Oil Painting
The featured work is an oil painting on canvas titled Self Portrait with Thorn Necklace created
by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo in 1940. The work features a representation of the artist herself
wearing a white garment, necklace made from thorns, ribbons in her hair, and butterfly hair pins.
The artist s facial expression is blank and emotionless. The artist is also portrayed with a monkey
behind her right shoulder and a black cat behind her left shoulder as well as dragonfly like insects
whose bodies are budding flowers. The monkey in the paintingis looking down at its hands which

Attached to the center of the thorn necklace is a dead hummingbird which hangs down toward
her breast. In the background, there is large plant leaves showing a sliver of the sky at the top of
the painting. Kahlo designs a strong, unified, and symmetrical composition using the elements of
art and principles of design. The painting is representational in subject matter, and the aesthetic
style is clearly surreal. The composition style is a traditional bust portrait, it is a closed
composition confining the main subject of the painting within the frame. The artist creates balance
within the composition by using the light values of the sky at the top and bright white garment in
the bottom portion of the scene. There is a contrast between the neutral tones of the foreground to
the cool color scheme of the background. The composition also reveals a symmetrical element. If
the viewer was to draw an imaginary line down the middle of the frame the two sides would be
evenly balanced. The pattern created by the lines in the large leaves create a rhythmic background
that enhances the images in the foreground. The element of space is used to create a frame within a
frame in the painting.

INTRODUCTION Plaintiffs have moved to dismiss their action against the Defendants under
K.S.A 60 241(b). Defendants have opposed this motion because they feel it would be unfair to
them because 1) it would not settle the issues in the case, 2) it would deny the Defendants further
discovery, and 3) it represents only a partial dismissal of the case because the Court would
maintain the protective order. This memo is divided in two main parts. The first part discusses
both dismissals without and with prejudice and considers the advantages and disadvantages of
both. To choose, which to go with the main question will be balancing the risk of the Court

Kansas courts have imposed expenses as a condition for dismissal in the past. Peterson v. Garney
Const. Co., 2 Kan. App. 2d 587, 588, 584 P.2d 1269, 1271 (1978). In Peterson, the Supreme
Court upheld an imposition of expenses because the Plaintiff sought dismissal right before the
trial began and because it was clear the Plaintiff wished to re file the case. Id. Kansas courts have
been clear that imposing expenses must be connected to the risk of future litigation and if there
is not such a risk then courts should not impose expenses. Brown v. Zackert, 10 Kan. App. 2d
466, 469, 701 P.2d 711, 714 (1985). Courts also normally do not impose expenses if the expenses
such as discovery costs would be useable in future lawsuits as courts consider these costs to not
be a waste. Smith v. Orthopaedic Surgery Associates, P.A., 237 Kan. 546, 550, 701 P.2d 331,
335 (1985). It should be noted that I was only able to find three Kansas cases were expenses
were a condition of a dismissal and so it somewhat unclear how often courts place this condition
on dismissals. The Federal Circuits are also unclear on this subject with some circuits holding
that there is a presumption in favor of expenses, while others have been more restrictive in their
use of this condition. See Belle Midwest, Inc. v. Missouri Prop. Cas. Ins. Guarantee Ass n, 56 F.3d

Abstract¬¬¬ This paper presents a low hardware overhead test pattern generator (TPG) for
scan based built in self test (BIST) that can reduce switching activity in circuits under test
(CUTs) during BIST. BIST is a device, here part of the functional device is self dedicated to self
testing the correctness of the device. In general BIST is comprised of two TPGs: LT RTPG
(Low Transition Random Test Pattern Generator) and 3 Weight WRBIST(Weighted Random Built
In Self Test) Minimization of hardware overhead is a major concern of BIST implementation. In
test per scan BIST, a new test pattern is applied to the inputs of the CUT every m + 1clock cycles,
where m is the number of scan elements in the longest scan chain. By using two proposed TPG
increasing fault coverage is achieved through the reduction of switching activity, thereby dissipation
of power is minimized.

Ban government from using face recognition and other biometric technologies.
Sounds good, but it won t work. For one thing, the spycams are already here and Congress is
highly unlikely to pass a law forcing every city in the country to take down their cameras.
What s more, the ban everything approach ignores the technologies plain benefits. Any woman
who s had to walk through a deserted parking garage to her car knows why many people might
welcome cameras.
With many advances ahead, computer linked surveillance cameras can already identify crimes as
they occur, reduce false arrests and convictions and provide much better evidence than notoriously
unreliable witness testimony. Linked to biometric databases, the cameras can help prevent fraud,
find a lost child, and keep terrorists out of airports and pedophiles out of schools.
The logic here is specious just because the spycams are already here does not mean that they aren t
going away. Police surveillance cameras were installed in Times Square in the late 1960s, but
were taken down because they were judged to be cost ineffective: in 22 months of operation, they
led to the arrest of only 10 people, all for minor infractions.

A refractometer is aneoptical device that takes advantage of the fact that light passing through a
liquid bends or refracts. The refractometer is a tool. It is used to help you select higher quality of
foods containing more vitamins and minerals. They are also used to determine the concentration of
dissolved solids in a solution. Cooking oil, molasses, syrup, and other thick liquids require a
refractometerqcalibrated to read 30 90 Brix. Refractometer also is used in wine making. (Harrill,
1998) refractometer is also used to test to quality of fruits and vegetables.
A hydrometer is an instrument used to measure the density of a liquid as compared to that of water.

Why?
Temperature is an essential parameter because the index of refraction is affected by temperature.
The speed of light in a liquid will increase when the temperature increases. For instance, according
to Hanson (2006), when there is 1В°C increasing in temperature, many organic liquids the index of
refraction decreases by nearly %0.05
What are the advantages and disadvantages of both instruments in measuring total soluble solid
content? Refractometer advantages: Д°nexpensive instrument
Refractometer disadvantages: Tedious calibration No instrument protocol Operator dependent
readings( limited accuracy) Long and difficult thermosetting (water bath is required after each
experiment)
Hydrometer advantages: Quick instrument Simple method Inexpensive instrument
Hydrometer disadvantages; Breakable glassware especially be careful when it is dropped into
solution Difficult to clean and dry it needs to be sure that it is cleaned well because not enough to
clean can cause measurement mistake Operator dependent readings Large sample volume required

Ex Machina Character Analysis
To begin, the film Ex Machina works with Al in an interesting way. The ultimate goal of the
protagonist, Caleb, is to judge whether the Al in the film, Ava, is capable of thought and
consciousness, as well as if he can actually relate to an Al. Nathan Al s appear advanced. For
example, Ave is able to tell whether Caleb is lying or not when she asks him questions.
Additionally, she is able to demonstrate intelligence by having Nathan fall for her. She knows
exactly what to do and what to say to make him sympathize with her. In the end, all she wanted
was to escape, and it is shown that she did not care about Caleb; she just wanted to manipulate him
into aiding her escape. This demonstrates that she is capable of thought since she was able to...

It appeared futuristic, but not too futuristic. For example, Nathan s building appear futuristic, due to
the AI s and advanced technology, but also appears modern, for example, the bathroom and
bedroom. The colors of the film were very clean and mostly were composed of white, red, and
orange. For example, whenever Ava turned off the cameras, the room would glow red. This can
indicant trouble, or warnings, which is what Ava was trying to give Caleb. The room Ava is
locked up in has an orange glow to it, which makes the room appear calm. Additionally, white in
the film makes the film appear futuristic. For example, the hallways appear white with lights, and
Ava wears a white bodysuit, and Kyoko wears a white dress. The editing of the film is not fast
paced, which gives the audience a chance to witness the relationship between an AI and human
grow. It also gives the audience a chance to see what humankind s ambition is and if it is actually a
good ambition or a bad one. The framing often shows the AI and humans in close quarters, which
further strengthens the relationships that happen between them. For example, the framing of the
film always shows Ava and Caleb close to each other, even if there is a glass separating them,
which shows the audience their relationship

Attitudes Between Men And Women
In the election held in 2013, only two WC made it to the parliament, although women made up
more than 53% of the electorate. These two candidates received the highest number of tweets about
the WC before the election.
RQ1: Attitudes according to gender
While the negative tweets outnumbered the positive ones (31% negative versus 21% positive), the
women tweeters expressed significantly more positive attitudes towards WC than the men tweeters
did (X2 = .21, p = 0.01). Women contributed 385 tweets (38% positive, 36% neutral, and 26%
negative), while men contributed 797 tweets (20% positive, 38% neutral, and 42% negative). The
remainder of the relevant tweets were generated by news sites.

The second dominant theme, however, did represent an objective, candidate based acceptance, in
which a tweeter was favorable towards a candidate because of her personal traits and political
skills. The most prevalent subtheme under this theme was the moral traits of the WC, such as being
modest, patriotic, and/or religious. Other tweeters favored WC because of their knowledge and
sagacity. Women tweeters were more interested in showing a positive attitude toward a candidate
because of her looks.
The third positive theme spoke to the political skills of WC as they were evidenced in a previous
parliamentary term or as they were expected to show up after they win election. Satisfaction with
past political performance was a major subtheme of this positive theme. Praise of the
communication skills of these candidates represents another major subtheme. Tweeters, especially
women, placed a special emphasis on the communication skills of the candidates, praising them
for their eloquence, sophistication as speakers, and cogent logic while talking to the media. They
described the speaking style of one WC as making the liver of the listener cooler (a Kuwaiti
colloquial expression connoting a good mood and a positive reaction).
The fourth positive theme was gender based, in which tweeters expressed a positive

The Consequentialist View Of Utilitarianism By John Stuart...
The Negative Side Although I have stated how the theories of these philosophers in a way go in
accordance on how using performance enhancing drugs is morally right they also hold small facts
on how they could also be viewed both ways. The theory of utilitarianism that John Stuart Mills
brought up has been criticized for many reasons. Critics declare that it does not provide adequate
protection for individual rights, as well that not everything can be measured by the same standard,
and that happiness is more complex than reflected by the theory. Immanuel Kantis one of those who
criticizes the Utilitarianismand argues how the Consequentialist view, by contrast, disputes that
moral value lies not in our actions but in the consequences. It is also to be known that the

The Effect Of Heavy Metals On Groundwater
Shereen Bahadori Toolabi
Literature Review Assignment
The Effect Heavy Metals has on Groundwater
Introduction
Water is a major resource human s need for survival. As an important part of Earth s water,
groundwater is an indispensable resource for the development of the global social economy and
people s lives (He rong, et. al., 2015). Groundwater is an easy way for humans to be exposed to
heavy metals. Heavy metal contamination is a significant problem in several community and
agricultural areas (Chotpantart, et. al., 2013). Agrochemicals, including plant nutrients and
fertilizer, can cause increases in the concentration of heavy metals in the water and soil, and these
heavy metal can potentially reach levels in the ground than in the surface and eventually
groundwater (Chotpantart, et. al., 2013).
People living in agricultural areas have commonly consumed groundwater from shallow
groundwater wells (Chotpantart, et. al., 2013). In China, Groundwater is a valuable water resource.
China has become well known with accelerated urbanization and industrialization processes (Bai,
et. al., 2016). Urbanization, moving from rural areas to urban areas, is changing cities worldwide;
though this has benefitted the economy and people s living standards, it has also increased
anthropogenic activities (Egodawatta, et. al., 2016). This increase in activities can enhance some
pollutants in urban environments.
In April 2014, the city of Flint, Michigan changed getting its water supply from

Positive thinking is a center of many good benefits. There are many ways to use positive

The Chinese Culture And Chinese Values
Conflicts and tensions between Britain and China broke out during the Qing dynasty due to Britain
s ignorance towards Chinese culture and discrepancies between Chinese and Western values.
Reflected in Lord Macartney s account of his first meeting with Emperor Qianlong in 1792, the
source highlights Britain s belief of how they had taken the right steps to impress the Emperor to
begin establishing stronger trade relations with China. However, Britain were ignorant of the
negative attitudes towards traders in the Chinese culture and China s inferior view of non Chinese
nations. Therefore, although Britain intended to negotiate trade relations with China in a respectful

of bowing before the emperor and touching the head to the ground which represented China s sense
of moral, spiritual, and intellectual superiority . Therefore, Britain s ignorance of basic Chinese
cultural values such as the kowtow suggests Britain s ignorance of more significant values of Qing
China related to Chinese attitudes in trade. In Confucianism and the Chinese culture, merchants and
traders in the Chinese culture were looked down upon as they profited from exploiting other people

exports to China as the Chinese would be indifferent towards increasing their imports. However, the
desperate need to obtain trade equality with China caused

Thomson s Capitalist Theory
Thomson s violinist theory addresses a simple premise. She begins by describing a scenario
where you were kidnapped by the Society of Music Lovers and brought here to this hospital. You
wake up in a bed connected by tubes to another person in the bed next to yours. The medical
director comes in to explain that the person in the bed next to you is the world s greatest violinist
and that his kidneys are failing. The medical director continues to explain that the Society of Music
Lovers have searched high and low through all the medical records and found that you and you
alone have the right blood type that matches the violinist s. Staying connected to the violinist will

The medical director states that you are not morally obligated to stay connected to the violinist,
but it would be nice if you did. The violinist is a person and therefore has the right to life. This
would entail that the violinist s right to life outweighs your ability to choose what happens in and
to your body (based on this premise). For the sake of argument Thomson grant s the fetus the
same rights as a moral person: the right to live and the right to not be killed by another person.
But by this sole premise she argues that the fetus s right to life cannot outweigh the mother s
decision to choose what happens in or to her body. Just like the violinist s rights do not outweigh
your rights. In this argument I will argue that Thomson s violinist theory is not a valid one. I will
evaluate Thomson s premise and draw attention to the false analogy that her premise

Conflict of interest often appears with post Civil Rights Movement monuments. Placing a
Confederate statue near a Civil Rights Movement memorial could be seen as an attempt to
strengthen white supremacy which is one of the fastest ways to aggravate the immediate audience
which would result in the removal of the Confederate monument. The placement of a statue can

The Book Of The City Of Ladies
INTRODUCTION Historically, women were thought of as inferior in physical strength, religious
traditions, philosophical and have faced intense discrimination from a lack of legal rights and very
little independence from their husbands and society at large. In many societies, women have long
been viewed as less than fully human. Christine de Pizan in her book The Book of the City of
Ladies 1405, wrote that the oppression of women is founded on irrational prejudice, pointing out
numerous advances in society probably created by women. Under the end of the 19th century,
women were excluded from taking part in voting and politics, certain public events, education and
in many professions. By the late 19th century and the turn of the 20th century, witnessed
strengthening of the women s movement both at the local and international level, leading to an
increase in the public awareness of women s rights, women the world over were pushing for
greater equality. Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton in the United States, and the
Suffragettes led by the Pankhurts in England were among the first pioneers of the women s
movement. This was a period of much activity as women organized themselves into public and
high profile advocacy groups, campaigning for the right to vote and equality in economic and
property rights. As a result, starting from the latter half of the 1990s, the relevant national

Using the numbers from the table do you see obvious differences in the numbers and diversity of
invertebrate like found at the two sites?
Increases and decreases in certain invertebrates can be
seen at the two sites. Upstream there were more Mayflies, Stoneflies, Caddisflies, Leeches, and
Earthworms. Downstream there were increases in Snails, Midges, Craneflies, and Blackflies and
decreases of the upstream invertebrates. Planaria was the only invertebrate that neither increased
nor decreased since there were none found at either site. Do you see any differences in the numbers
collected by the tow difference kinds of nets? Upstream the D Net seems to have caught more of
certain invertebrates, such as Caddisflies, Earthworms, and Leeches,... Show more content on

Sampling inconsistencies due to different groups could cause the biggest differences in the data.
Personal techniques, experience, and motivation would all be seen in the groups, which could
change the samples. Sampling inconsistencies due to different individuals taking samples and
collecting in the groups could affect each group s samples, also. Another factor to consider could
be changes in temperature and weather on different sampling days, which could affect the
environment, water, and invertebrates. Do you think our sample size is big enough to be
meaningful? What effect would taking more samples have on the reliability of our data? I think
our sample size is big enough to begin formulating a data chart and analyzing the results, but
overall it is not big enough to fully support the given hypothesis. More samples could possibly help
further support the hypothesis. The more samples and data that can be presented, the more reliable
the data becomes. Describe something interesting related to this lab that you saw today For me,
finding the various types of invertebrates in general was interesting. I especially found the small
invertebrates that were camouflaged and attached to the rocks fascinating. I think it is amazing that
so many life forms, ones that are incredibly important to an entire ecosystem, can exist in such a

Individualism in The Fountainhead Essay
Individualism in The Fountainhead
Individualism, the doctrine of free thought and action of the individual, forms the basis of Ayn
Rand s novel The Fountainhead. The major theme of her fiction is the primacy of the individual,
the unique and precious individual life. That which sustains and enriches life is good, that which
negates and impoverishes the individual s pursuit of happiness is evil.
The Fountainhead is Rand s fullest explication of the primacy of the individual. As she worked out
her interpretation of the inalienable rights: the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness;
and what these entailed, she saw three areas of conflict where these rights were held in balance.

He tries to explain to people that ...An honest building, like an honest man had to be one piece and
one faith; what constituted the life source...... and why if one small part committed treason to that
idea, the thing or the creature was dead .... and why the high and the noble on earth was only that
which kept it s integrity.
Henry Cameron, Roark s mentor both in work and principles had been very successful, but had
gradually faded away into oblivion. He did not give in to others demands on him and worshipped
and believed in the heroic in man....... he wished to build as he wished, and for that reason only. For
him Gail Wynand represented everything that s wrong with the world.
Peter Keating, a successful young architect, Roark s senior, possesses a modicum of talent but
guides his life by pursuing what other people want of him. Though openly successful he is
actually a bundle of anxieties. This he tries to obscure by amassing wealth and following proper
public opinions. In all his major works, it was Roark who provided him with ideas.
When he achieves everything he should want, he doesn t understand the hollowness of it all. He
can never be satisfied because he has never gone after what he wants. He is a parasite, a second
hander as Roark calls him; incapable of self direction.
Ellsworth Monkton Toohey again is a second hander but of a worse kind than Peter Keating. He
preaches self abnegation, self sacrifice, and self surrender as

What Is The Nursing Work Force In Pediatrics
Currently 29% of the nursing work force in pediatrics has less than 2 years experience on the floor.
A continued focus on ongoing education and competencies is an ongoing focus but a challenge
with the limited financial resources. Offering this certification course and the contract from the
nurse that they will sit for their certification in the allotted time frame is a way to go above and
beyond the minimum and make sure even our novice staff meet the national pediatric nursing
standard. This supports St. Luke s goal of having % nursecertified workforce. It also prepares for
facility accreditation and Magnet recertification. Currently Pediatrics has a 16% certification rate,
10 nurses with 44 nurses currently eligible to sit for the certification.

What Does The Ambush Symbolize In The Scarlet Letter
In The Scarlet Letter nature and different symbols are hidden throughout the book. Nature can
help the reader understand how the characters feels throughout the book. The characters often
use nature to escape society to become more happy. Nature, like the rosebush, sunshine, and the
forest, is found throughout the book to make Hester happy and to get her through her tough
times. The rosebush outside the prison gave Hester hope while everyone in her society was
against her. Everyone in her town was looking down on her and at the time the rosebush was her
only hope and the only thing that could keep her happy. Hester first sees the rosebush on page
56: It may serve, let us hope, to symbolize some sweet moral blossom, that may be found along
the track, or relieve the darkening close of a tale of human frailty and sorrow. The rosebush gave
her happiness because it lets her have hope. Hope is the only thing that can make her happy when
everyone in her town is against her. The rosebush is a symbol for hope which makes Hester happy
knowing that it will be better in the future.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sunshine makes Hester take her mind away from all of the negativity in her society and
makes her realize the better things in her life like pearl. For example on page 121 Pearl, looking
at this bright wonder of a house, began to caper and dance, and imperatively required that the
whole breadth of sunshine should be stripperd off its front, and given her to play with The
sunshine made Pearl so happy she started to dance in front of the bright window. When Hester
sees Pearl dancing and being happy in front of the window, in away it makes herself happy as well.
The sunshine makes Hester and Pearl happy because the both they forget everything else that is
happening and they can just focus on each

No One Factor Was Directly Responsible For The French...
No one factor was directly responsible for the French Revolution. Years of feudal oppression and
fiscal mismanagement contributed to a French society that was ripe for revolt. The economical
downturn may have been the kickstarter that began the revolution as the taxes rose higher and
outrage at the crown heightened. The economy began to destabilise in the late 1700s, and the king
decided to bring in financial advisers to look at the weakened French treasurey. Each adviser gave
the king the same warning that something had to be done and radical changes had to be made, but
each were, in their turn, kicked out. After the financial crisis began to effect Francemore harshly,
the king finally decided that something had to be done, and so he appointed a new controller
general of finance, Charles de Calonne in 1783. Calonne suggested many ways to get France out of
the spiral, but most balanced on the nobility paying taxes as well as the French public. He pleaded
with them at the National Assembly, but to no avail. Thus, financial ruin became imminent.
The Jacobins, led by Robespierre who wanted the king out of the picture entirely where the radicals
of the Assembly. Whereas the Girondins took a more moderate approach to the monarchy. This led
to the rift in the assembly, which caused the Girondins to lose power.
Austria and Hungary were at war with France for most of the National Assembly s lifespan, and
the rage of the people when the war was going badly started the

What Obstacles Did Jackie Robinson Face
In 1947, Jackie Robinson was called up to the major leagues by the Dodgers. On April 15, 1947,
Robinson made his debut in the major league at Ebbets Field. There was a crowd of 26,623
spectators, and more than 14,000 of those spectators were Black. Robinson had officially broken
the color line. He had become the first African American to play in the Major League Baseballin the
modern era. The last time that the color line was openly broken in Major League Baseballwas in
1880. This was a huge deal. African American fans would start attending Dodger games just to
see Jackie play. As amazing as it was to finally have an African American playing in Major League
Baseball, there was a lot of racial criticism that came along with it. Jackie Robinson... Show more

Jackie had a batting average of.296 and had 22 stolen bases for the season. The Dodgers were in
first place in the National League, but they ended up finishing in third. In the 1948 season, more
black players entered the league. This reduced racial pressure on Robinson. The Dodgers
acquired three other black players that season. In the 1949 season, Jackson improved his batting
average from .296 to .342. He received the Silver Bat Award for his superb batting average. Jackie
stole 37 bases, had 122 runs, and was second in the league for doubles and triples. He had
improved tremendously in the span of one year. That season he earned the Most Valuable Player
Award for the National League. In addition to his 1949 MVP Award, Robinson was also voted to be
the starting second baseman in the 1949 All Star Game. This was a very big deal, because it was
the first All Star game to include black

  • 2. Exploring the Boundaries between Alternative Medicine and... Alternative medicine has been considered the hidden mainstream of patient care in America. As biomedicine increased in popularity, alternative methods of healing arose as a response to the treatments used by physicians. Historically, alternative (or complementary ) medicine conveyed itself by highlighting its natural attributes. These characteristics attracted those who were wary of the chemicals used in allopathic medicines. Much of the skepticism that has accompanied complementary alternative medicine(CAM) stems from the lack of scientifically based evidence that shows its efficacy; there is no alternative medicinethere is simply unproven medicine (Fontanarosa and Lundberg 1618). This argument suggests that medicine and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The founder of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann, was originally an MD who regularly practiced biomedicine in the late 1700s (Whorton 49). Homeopathic ideology involves treating a disease with cures that produce similar effects as the disease ( same suffering ) as opposed to treating a disease with substances that are meant to produce opposite effects ( allopathy ) (Whorton 52). As Hahnemann progressed in his practice as a physician, he began to lose trust in the worth of the treatments he provided treatments he had been taught would be effective for their target disease. He claimed that medicine was founded upon perhapses and blind chance and were not tailored to cure the diseases of individual patients; medicine saw disease as something finite and similarly experienced across patients with similar illnesses (Whorton 56). Hahnemann believed that conventional medicine is objective and independent of a patient s perspective of his or her own disease; it is an impersonal approach to personal problems. For example, a headache could mean something different to separate individuals because each of them may experience it differently. Consequently, he made his homeopathic remedies specific to his patients (Whorton 57). Since the dilutions of homeopathic remedies reached nearly infinitesimal quantities of an actual drug, many homeopaths believed that some sort of spirit was an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also teenagers have a very specific stereotype hoody, jeans, vandalism, violence and chav but with this the youths can either stoop to social pressure and dress like everyone else or they can be an outcast and be individual, it is extremely rare that you find an individual person being accepted by teenagers. Some of these stereotypes are correct for some people, like stealing and looking for fights but with some people, they could be really nice, but because society has belittled them people think that they should cross the street rather than walking through a crowd of chavs . In the next subsections, the proposed genetic algorithm of protein tertiary structure prediction will be described. i)The Proposed Genetic Algorithm Genetic Algorithms (GA) primarily motivated by the biological theory of evolution, and it was originally developed by J. Holland in 1975 [11]. The GA is is a search heuristic that mimics the process of natural selection. GA is based on the operations of population reproduction and selection to acheive optimal results. Through artificial evolution, successive generations search for fitter adaptations in order to solve a problem. Each generation consists of a population of chromosomes, representing a series of candidate solutions (called individuals) to an optimization problem, generally evolves toward better solutions by applying genetic operations of recombination and mutation to create a new offspring population from the current population. The process evolution usually starts from a population of randomly generated individuals or, using domain background knowledge. The generation process repeats for many generations with the aim of maximizing the objective Function (also called fitness) of the chromosomes that are evaluated each generation. Usually, the GA termination cindition are set to the maximum number of generations. ii) Genetic Representation In a GA, a population of chromosomes, representing a series of candidate solutions (called individuals) to an optimization problem, generally evolves toward better solutions. ... The artist creates balance within the composition by using the light values of the sky at the top and bright white garment in the bottom portion of the scene. There is a contrast between the neutral tones of the foreground to the cool color scheme of the background. The composition also reveals a symmetrical element. If the viewer was to draw an imaginary line down the middle of the frame the two sides would be evenly balanced. In Peterson, the Supreme Court upheld an imposition of expenses because the Plaintiff sought dismissal right before the trial began and because it was clear the Plaintiff wished to re file the case. • 25. The Effect Of Heavy Metals On Groundwater Shereen Bahadori Toolabi Literature Review Assignment The Effect Heavy Metals has on Groundwater Introduction Water is a major resource human s need for survival. As an important part of Earth s water, groundwater is an indispensable resource for the development of the global social economy and people s lives (He rong, et. al., 2015).
