When you first referred to this assignment, I immediately thought about the song
called Status Quo from High School Musical. This was one of my favorite movies
when I was a teenager. The song plays in the movie while Gabrielle s friends are
telling her that if she dates Troy, the popular basketball player, it will mess us the
status quo. In a cute dance number they break out in song in the cafeteria singing.
From watching that movie, I already had an understanding of what I needed to reflect

I am a very organized person. At the beginning of the semester, I read through the

and social media. Videos, movies, books, television, internet and the social media
sites all clamor for our attention. From an early age, television, movies and books

This trip began at 7:20 a.m. when I arrived at the Evergreen State College. At my
time of arrival, it was a cool 53 F and was slightly raining with the expected
forecast of heavy rain throughout the day. At 7:45 a.m. I met the rest of the class in
front of the vans in parking lot C and I noted that everything was wet from all the
rain. We left campus at 8:15 a.m. and headed south towards Vancouver
WA. My goal
for this trip was learn more about the history of the Columbia RiverGorge and the
city of Vancouver. Throughout the drive, I took notes every fifteen minutes to
record my observations. At 8:30 a.m. we passed the last Tumwater exit heading
south on I5, at 8:45 a.m. we passed the Centralia Outlet Mall. At 9:00 a.m. we

Shortly after our arrival to the park Christina and I set out on a walk around the
river which didn t seem like it would be too bad due to the rain, but about half way
through we soon regretted it. Throughout our walk the rain and wind picked up

As a child, Helen was often became frustrated that no one understood what she
wanted. As a result, she would become extremely violent. Her parents did not know
how to control her and they let her get away with anything.
Fortunately, they learned about Annie Sullivan, a teacher of the blind, who came to
teach and live with seven year old Helen.
Learning to Communicate
Anne Sullivan began by teaching Helen finger spelling, starting with the word doll, to
help Keller understand the gift of a doll she had brought along. Other words would
follow. At first, Keller was curious, then defiant, refusing to cooperate with Sullivan s
instruction. When Keller did cooperate, Sullivan could tell that she wasn t making
the connection between the objects and the letters spelled out in her hand. Sullivan
kept working at it, forcing Helen to go through the regimen. As Keller s frustration
grew, the tantrums increased. Finally, Sullivan demanded that she and Keller be
isolated from the rest of the family for a time, so that Keller could concentrate only
on Sullivan s instruction. They moved to a cottage on the plantation.
In a dramatic struggle, Sullivan taught Keller the word water ; she helped her make
the connection between the object and the letters by taking Keller out to the water
