The adrenal glands are located above the kidneys and consist of an outer adrenal cortex and inner adrenal medulla. The adrenal cortex secretes steroid hormones like mineralocorticoids such as aldosterone, glucocorticoids such as cortisol, and weak androgens. The adrenal medulla secretes catecholamines including epinephrine and norepinephrine which help regulate the fight or flight response. These hormones work together to regulate processes like electrolyte balance, glucose metabolism, stress response, and immune function.
