The Writer s Duty Of William Faulkner s Nobel Prize...
Addie Champlin
English II AP
Dr. Payne
September 9 2016
The Writer s Duty In William Faulkner s Nobel Prize acceptance speech, he speaks about the true
purpose of writing and the importance of genuinely putting your heart into your work. He discusses
how the only way writing can truly be valuable is if the author is dedicated to showing the authentic
love the human spirit holds and what that love is capable of accomplishing. A good piece of writing
will show both strength and vulnerability and will not be written for fame or recognition. It will be
written for the sake of creating and spreading a message that is important to the author. In their
memoirs, An American Childhood and The Road from Coorain, Annie Dillard and Jill Ker Conway,
both feel very strongly about their purpose for writing. Conway tends to express her reasons for
writing explicitly, while Dillard chooses to do it more implicitly.
In An American Childhood by Annie Dillard, she clearly demonstrates the meaning of the novel in one
passage that reads, Children wake up and find themselves here, discover themselves to have been here
all along; is this sad? They wake like sleepwalkers, in full stride; they wake like people brought back
from cardiac arrest or from drowning: in medias res, surrounded by familiar people and objects,
equipped with a hundred skills. They know the neighborhood, they can read and write English, they
are old hands at the commonplace mysteries, and yet they feel themselves to have just

Bbc3 Unit 9 Final Project
12 year old BBC3TV s trust company has approved the plan to make the channel an online only entity.
Due to BBC3TV s failing revenue, the the BBC Corporation will essentially be saving about £30m
($46m) a year. The channel, which was targeted towards the 16 to 34 year old demographic, was
unable to do so.
In its first major decision since Rona Fairhead was appointed as chair of the trust last September, the
regulator recognised the clear long term potential in moving online, but admitted there were clear
concerns about the loss of services to the key age group, as well as the BBC s ability to try out new
ideas and develop new talent.
Alternately, the trust rejected another proposal to launch a new BBC1+1 channel in place of BBC3
because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The BBC must also promise to continue taking risks on new talent and ideas of the sort that BBC3 has
been successful in developing .
Under BBC proposals, the budget for entertainment and features such as reality television shows will
be scrapped, while the bulk of the remaining reduced budget of £30m will be spent on drama and
serious factual such as Murdered by My Boyfriend. The budget for personality led entertainment such
as Jack Whitehall and his Dad will be halved, while scripted comedy including series like Cuckoo will
see a 25% budget cut to about £10m. Factual entertainment programme Don t Tell the Bride is to
move to BBC1 as part of the plans.
A letter sent to Fairhead and the BBC director general, Tony Hall, in June organised by two leading
independent television producers and signed by 750 stars, including Whitehall, Olivia Colman, Daniel
Radcliffe, Game of Thrones star Lena Headey and Poldark s Aidan Turner, argued against the plans.
The corporation had intended to replace the BBC3 TV channel with a one hour time shifted version of
BBC1, a move that concerned commercial rivals, branding it a ratings driven

A Pragmatic Philosophy Of Second Language Acquisition
A Pragmatic Philosophy of Second Language Acquisition
Learning a second language is an issue of immense importance in our contemporary world.
Knowledge of a second language enhances a person s economic potential in the globalized
marketplace. The ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend another language empowers an
individual to exchange ideas across cultural and linguistic barriers. At the center of contemporary
second language acquisition is the learning and teaching of English. Due to the legacy of the British
Empire and the rise of the United States as the world s last remaining superpower, English has become
the main international mode of communication in science, technology, business, diplomacy and
popular entertainment. While educators and students worldwide may agree that learning English is
paramount, many students and teachers struggle with a pragmatic means to achieve this goal. In this
paper, I discuss my pragmatic philosophy of second language acquisition (SLA) based on existing
literature on the topic and my experiences teaching English to second language learners in Asia and in
the United States.
Pragmatism
To be a pragmatic language teacher means to be sensible, realistic and practical rather than to base
instructional methods solely on theoretical considerations. Brown (2007) states, Pragmatic constraints
on language comprehension and production may be loosely thought of as the effect of context on a
string of linguistic events (p. 232). A pragmatic

Understand Current National and Organisational Policies...
Understand current national and organisational policies and practices for literacy development
1.1, Explain the aims and importance of learning provision for literacy development
The learning provisions for development in literacy are extremely important and can be reached by
using their language skills. They learn to communicate with others through three main ways: they are
Speaking, Reading and Writing. These three areas interact with each other and develop the Childs self
expression and imagination. They must be given the opportunity within all different subject areas to
use and extend their language so that their thinking skills progress to a higher level.
The literacy curriculum is for pupils to explore and expand on how language ... Show more content on

Whilst in class during a literacy lesson, children with very little English language will complete early
learning games. This could be made up of cards matching pictures to their English word cards, for
example, a picture of a horse will match to the word horse . As their English progresses, they would
become more involved in the lessons that the whole class is doing, but we would be considerate by
using more basic language so that it gives the child confidence in what they are doing. Correcting their
grammar is essential; otherwise they fall into lazy habits. However, this must be done in a sensitive
and caring manner. An example of this is a year 4 Portuguese boy in my class. He has been with us for
2 years. He recently asked me can I drink water please . I told him the correct way to ask was can I
have a drink of water please . He now asks correctly each time.
1.2, Summarise the relevant policy and age related expectations of learners relevant to literacy
development in the setting.
If you are supporting pupils literacy development you will need to be aware of your schools English or
literacy policy. This will outline your schools approach to the teaching of reading, writing, speaking
and listening and should follow local or national guidelines. In England and Wales, the National
Primary Literacy Framework outlines the structure for the teaching of literacy. It shows 12 strands of
learning which a child must be taught throughout

Offshore Oil Drilling On The Environment
Offshore Oil Drilling If we do nothing, it doesn t matter how we feel. And that s exactly what oil
companies are banking on: out of sight, out of mind (Hart, 24). Petroleum is a naturally occurring oil
found under deep layers of rock ( oil drilling ). Oil drilling is when a pipe penetrates through these
several layers of rock in order to reach the petroleum oil underneath. This oil can then be purified or
turned into gasoline for energy use. Offshore oil drilling, like its name describes, is specifically oil
drilling on the ocean floor, away from a shore line. Offshore oil drilling provides one of the most
consumed American energy resources, but also provides a risk to the environment (Crawford et al. 2

economy, and because it is an easy and efficient source of energy. First, supporters of continuing
offshore oil drilling argue that it creates thousands of jobs, and that if offshore drilling were to end, the
revenue it creates would also come to an end. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, creation of
a gas to liquids industry resulting in thousands of new domestic jobs and potentially billions of dollars
in new investments (Crawford et al. 20). Offshore oil drilling incorporates a wide variety of
employees ranging from business management teams to the workers on the rig. If offshore oil drilling
were to come to a stop, thousands of people would lose their jobs, and raise the unemployment rate in
America. Furthermore, the profit and revenue offshore oil drilling creates would come to an end. For
example, tax returns, income to land and mineral owners, and access to domestic resources would all
stop. (Crawford et al. 69). With so much dependence on the revenue offshore oil drilling brings in, a
stop to the offshore drilling would leave citizens, dependent on these resources and incomes, left to
look for new jobs and new sources of income. Secondly, the opposition makes the argument that
offshore oil drilling is a crucial part of the U.S. economy, and many Americans are dependent on the
oil and gas generated from it. To start,

Plain Folk Of A Rich Man s War
Plain Folk in a Rich Man s War is a narrative of the Civil War in Georgia from the perspective of those
who were not a part of the elite planter class. As opposed to focusing on the war from the
romanticized Lost Cause viewpoint championed by mainstream media, this book tells the often
glossed over struggles of the tenant farmers, sharecroppers, and other poor whites who supplied much
of the Confederacy s fighting force. The war time experiences of these plain folk is broken up into
three main sections: the actions of the Confederate government and the planter class, the plain folk s
responses to these actions during the war, and how this chain of circumstances ultimately led to the
downfall of the Confederacy and Union victory in the Civil War. In doing so, this book bridges a
significant gap in the literature by illuminating an aspect of the war usually overshadowed by the idea
that the Confederacy, composed of genteel southern gentlemen and their belles, was united behind
Jefferson Davis from secession until surrender at Appomattox. A cursory examination of popular
culture will reveal a very rosy picture of life in the southern United States even today. The summers
are hotter, the tea is sweeter, and the conversation is slower. We pride ourselves on hospitality and
moss draped sycamore trees. The Civil War, more commonly known below the Mason Dixon as the
War of Northern Aggression , is talked about as though it was the end of a way of life longed to be

Papa John s Argument Analysis
On its website, Papa John s Pizza proclaims its product with the following message: better ingredients,
better pizza. The company wanted to achieve product diversity, therefore it continued to push its
boundaries. While there are a lot of pizza eateries to choose from, it is apparent that not all are equal.
This was not apparent to one of Papa John s competitors, Pizza Hut, who found the claim to be
deceptive. In 1995, Papa John s hired a consulting firm called Trout Partners, and they coined the
tagline that has become synonymous with the now multi billion dollar company (Duncan, 2017). In a
court case filed by Pizza Hut, the appeal presents a false advertising claim against Papa John s slogan

misleading representation of fact that misrepresents the nature, characteristics, qualities, or geographic

Papa John s pizza was created from vision and determination of using high quality ingredients. The
company uses a team of research and development to ensure that the ingredients used creates and
stands up to the better pizza commitment. Pizza Hut was required by the court to present evidence that
Papa John s advertisement claim was misleading and that it influenced the purchasing decision of
consumers to which the ads were focused. Pizza Hut presented three factors to establish that the
misleading statement of fact conveyed by the ads and the slogan were material to consumers in
making their purchasing decisions (Altahawi, 2000). As result, the court rejected all forms presented
by Pizza Hut. The court alluded that Pizza Hut was unsuccessful in it suggestion that its business
conclusions resulted from Papa John s advertisement or that it unfairly persuaded the experiences of
consumers, or a combination of

Are Sophisticated Consequentialism AAlternative...
As per its author of Alienation, Consequentialism, and Society, Railton s opinion of what a
sophisticated consequentialist is: as someone who has a standing commitment to leading an
objectively consequentialist life, but who need not set special stock in any particular form of decision
making and therefore does not necessarily seek to lead a subjectively consequentialist life.
Sophisticated consequentialism is a hybrid, as it adopts the ideological tenants of both modalities of
consequentialism and allows for the nuance of personal relationships to at times, override the
adherence to a presumed action based upon the tenants of consequentialism. The sophisticated
consequentialist may accept the reality that saving their one true love, is ideologically less beneficial
than saving the three strangers, however the consequentialist would also take into the account of their
personal feelings and the perceived total good that they may experience with that person over a
lifetime as more beneficial than saving a higher quantity of strangers. At this, the sophisticated
consequentialist is adopting the subjective consequentialist view of the intent to save one s love, and
experience more moments with them and bring about a higher amount of happiness than saving those
three strangers. In this, I believe that sophisticated consequentialism is giving credence and
importance to the personal point of view, as a textbook definition of a consequentialist theory would
point to saving the

Evaluating A Customer Reviews Of Products Sold Online
Bing and Liu discuss ways to enhance customer satisfaction in this paper by studying customer
reviews of products sold online. The paper also describes the problem of generating feature based
summaries based on these reviews. According to the paper, a customer review of a particular product
is composed of three parts, namely:
Different features of the products that the customers have expressed their opinion,
Identifying positive and negative opinions based on their reviews and finally
Composing a summary based on information obtained.
The main advantage of using feature based summary is that it enables customers for explicit reviews
on a particular product. This also enables merchants to study the growth of their products ... Show

The system crawls all the information (customer reviews) from the particular product and starts to
extract the feature words. The mining classification is divided into three subtasks. First, POS tagging,
most product feature in reviews contain nouns and phrases. POS enables to identify these tags words
by word. The authors have used NLProcessor linguistic parser to split the sentences and produce POS
tag for every individual word. Some pre processing is performed to remove stop words to avoid big
POS tag lists. Fuzzy matching was also used to deal with misspelling and word variants. Second,
identifying frequent features, features that are particularly used by customers in many reviews. To put
in context, words, or sentences that occur together in many reviews. The authors use association
mining to list out these words. An apriori algorithm based association miner is used to identify these
features/words. The gathered features cannot possibly be genuine product features. Pruning enables to
remove the unwanted features/words that don t match to product opinion or feature. The author uses
two pruning methods and compares their efficiency. While using compactness pruning, it looks for
features that is composed of two or more words and identifies if they make

Holden Caulfield Symbolism
In The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger, Salinger places a significant amount of importance on the
title. The tile itself The Catcher in the Rye is a symbol of Holden Caulfield s love of innocence and
children, and his willingness to protect them from becoming the monster that Holden Caulfield has
become. This is evident in Holden s admiration for children, the symbolic meaning behind Holden s
definition of a Catcher in the Rye , and Holden s hatred of adult s unawareness of protecting the
innocence of the youth. Holden Caulfield throughout the Catcher in the Rye has this admiration
toward children, which is a direct contrast to his view of everyone being a phony. This is evident in
Holden s double standard that he has toward his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

evident in Chapter 16 were he states The cars zoomed by, brakes screeched all over the place, his

behavior of adults on children is what ruins the innocence of children, and is what strips them from
their innocence. This in turn ultimately leads to a disastrous transition to adulthood, one that Holden
Caulfield is currently facing. Catcher in the Rye , is a symbol of preserving the innocence of the youth
and stopping the abusive and phony , behavior of adults and ultimately living in innocence and in a

The Rising Sun and Death be not Proud by John Donne Essay
In this essay I will mainly focus on two poems written by John Donne, The Rising Sun and Death be
not proud. These poems were written during the Elizabethan era, which was an era mainly
characterized by love and colonialism, on separate terms of course. These principles often influenced
poets who lived during this period. Their poetry acts as testimonies of their underlying thoughts and
desires. Furthermore, metaphysical poets deliver a more divine and profound perspective to their
poetry. Within their conceits, they manage to engage and delight themselves in deeper movements.
This essay will further discuss how John Donne used death and the sun to his disposal. I will also
critically analyse the two poems as well grasp on external aspects ... Show more content on

Eternal life thus defeats death and throughout the poem, John s strong background of Christianity
allows him to associate death with temporary entities as he refers to death as a state of much pleasure
(7). Death is conceptualized as a phase rather than an element which represents finality. Death is
personified and therefore has no greater power over human beings. Death losses its fearful connotation
and achieves a new meaning that makes it less intimidating and less powerful. The central theme,
introduced quite early within the poem, is the helplessness of death. Throughout the poem the speaker
belittles death and approaches it with such bravery and poise. Donne confronts death by saying it is
not in any regard mighty and dreadful (2), but rather brings much pleasure (7). Death is personified in
the poem, and in this regard, possess no greater power over man. The speaker of the poem is Donne
himself. He uses his literary tools of rhetoric and poetic devices to belittle death. Throughout the
poem, the speaker comes across as being slightly arrogant, but he refuses to show weakness. His
arrogance shows that he is not afraid of death as he demands death not to be proud. Donne takes the
association of death and sleep, and reinvents this comparison to a greater effect. He describes sleep as
being pictures (5) of death and death is no more different or more frightening. He extends this
metaphor throughout the poem. In the second last line of the poem he

Displacement and Don Juan Essay
Displacement and Don Juan
Unlike the fitfully epic Don Juan , I d like to begin in medias res , with the anger of Lord Byron. We
join him thick in the struggle with a central concern of DJ s composition: the perils of transmission:
Pray when I send you a parcel or packet do acknowledge it I care nothing about my letters or your
answers I only want to know, when I have taken trouble about a thing that it has arrived.
By the time he fired off those impatient words to his publisher John Murray in 1821, Byron had been
living abroad and publishing overseas for five years. They were years marked by drastic shifts of tone
in his writing from earnestness to playfulness in his poetry, and quite the reverse trajectory in

When Byron left England for good in 1816, and took up Childe Harold once again, he still didn t trust
the post; instead, he found close friends who were headed from Italy to London friends who had
inspired or supplemented Byron s work, such as Percy Shelley and John Cam Hobhouse to carry
Childe Harold back to Murray. The transmission of DJ s first two cantos went along similarly
improvised, inside lines with the distinction that the bearer of this new cargo of poesy was a only a
minor acquaintance of Byron s, the roving Lord Lauderdale, who had no personal link to the lines he
carried. The reader of Byron s letters of November 1818 finds many references to Lauderdale wending
his way slowly towards London with verse Byron knew would make a big impact. Yet when he
delivered DJ, Lauderdale also carried along with it unflattering gossip about Byron s Venetian
dissipation. It was a marred delivery, with Lauderdale proving to be, Byron later wrote, a damned old
Ladro porco fottuto, a son of a Bitch for all his laced Coat. The personal courier meant a compromise
of authority. Byron sent the remainder of DJ to London via the impersonal mechanism of the post.
That method of delivery, of course, offered its own hazards. The reestablishment of postal routs
directly after the continental wars had to seem tenuous,

2.3 Describe the medical and social models of disabilities.
The medical model of disability views disabilities as a problem that belongs to the disabled person. It
is not seen as a problem that needs the concern of anyone else apart from the disabled individual
affected, for example if a wheelchair user is unable to get into a building because there are steps then,
the wheelchair is seen as the problem not the steps, according to the medical model.
The social model suggests that it is the steps that are the issue not the wheelchair, as it is the steps
which are disabling the person access, which is seen as a barrier. This model suggests that it is society
disabling people through designing everything to meet the needs of the majority of people, who are
not disabled. The social model believe that there is a great deal that society can do to reduce and
ultimately remove, some of the barriers. This task is the responsibility of society rather then the
person, as far as is reasonably practical which by if it is a big organisation and it is financially possible
and financially beneficial, then it would make sense to adapt and make provisions for disabled people

Greek Revolution Research Paper
The Greek people suffered from oppression and inequality under the Ottoman empire for over 400
years before finding bright individuals that would aid them in starting a revolution that would change
their lifestyles forever. Why did the Greek wait 400 years to revolt? Although the answer is not clear,
the peasants and farmers were too poor and uneducated because the area of Greece was in poverty.
The Greeks found three different inspirational people that would help them discover what they valued
and why they needed freedom from the Ottomans. What pushed the Greeks to finally revolt in the
Greek War of Independence was the increased religious discrimination, the motivation of the prophets
of the revolution, and the taxation policy.

Essay About My Birthday
At least you were alive long enough to experience your birthday.
The incident took place three days after my birthday. I have received an assortment of condolences in
my lifetime, but this one definitively trounced its comrades.
On Saturday, March 28th of 2015, my goals and ambitions came to a sporadic halt with the possibility
that I might not be fit to conquer these objectives in the near future, if at all. Ten minutes until 7 o
clock in the evening, I was driving east on Independence Boulevard in Wilmington, North Carolina
when an intoxicated driver barreled through a red light and executed a side impact collision
successfully. I could only sit in my Jeep Wrangler as a forlorn witness, crumbling alongside my
vehicle. My life, as I had once known it, ultimately changed.
I was suppressed and unconscious for approximately 45 minutes. I awoke to a white sheet draped over
my body with an immense amount of blood seeping through its fabric. The Jaws of Life ripped apart
my vehicle as if it was a damp piece of paper. I felt nothing not physically, mentally, or emotionally.
My surroundings were so obscure that I could not even comprehend the words leaving the lips of the
emergency medical technicians. And then I felt it. A brace was strapped around my neck and my body
was hoisted onto a stretcher. The entire left side of my body had been mangled beyond belief. I have
been exposed to a profuse amount of painful events in my lifetime, but nothing could prepare me for

Taking a Look at Islam and Judaims
Introduction Apart from Christianity, Islam and Judaism are two of the most influential religions in the
world, particularly in the Middle East. Although Judaism is not as large as Islam, it has impacted on
the world in a profound manner. While it s quite evident that both Islam and Judaism appear to be
having conflicting differences in terms of their doctrines, they are both know as Abrahamic religions
because they share a common origin in the Middle East through Abraham in the Hebrew Bible.
Nevertheless, Judaism is often considered to be the oldest of all the Abrahamic religions. Most
ethnographers have been more interested in understanding on how the convictions between the two
religions compare, based on their religious believes about God, afterlife, the universe and people. This
can be attributed to the fact that the conflict between Islam and Judaism has been viewed as a result of
irreconcilable clash of religious doctrines. But, I do not believe that this is really the case. This essay
will focus on drawing a comparison between Judaism and Islam so as to establish the similarities and
differences that exist between them. The comparison will then be used to support my opinion based on
the ides that these religions can live together peacefully and that they are not destined for perpetual
conflict.

There are several doctrines and historical events that can be linked to the two religions. Both Islam
and Judaism believe in the existence of one creator

of the scientific theories or it was suggested by a large number of viewers who saw the art. Each work

They include fantasy properties by encompassing science with the improbable. For example in Dali s
The Persistence of Memory, he paints realistic, everyday objects in a strange pattern in an unusual
landscape, for example, it is improbable that clocks would be melting, and in a desert. But the idea of
time dilation is a probability, so Dali uses the improbable to explain the probable. This is the same for
A Trip to the Moon. Humans have always questioned the existence of extraterrestrial forms. In Méliès
film, it is improbable that the group of astronomers would be able to travel to space without the
consideration for the lack of oxygen in space. However, as scientists were focusing only on the
survival in space and the transportation there, Méliès focuses on the astronauts adventure on the moon.
He ignores the probable and approaches the existence of extraterrestrial life in a fantastical way by
interacting the astronauts and the moon dwellers. In Martin s painting, Martin envisions the
apocalypse straight out of the Bible. However, in the Book of Revelations, the only visual given is
through the text. It is most closely relatable to the text in Revelations 6. The text explores a few details
in the catastrophic sight, such as mountains falling. Martin takes this reference from the Bible and
combines it with his studies of dinosaur bones and fossils as a scientist. Martin could be combining

Technology, Technology And The Deep Commercialization Of...
For decades, people have been fascinated with the concept of making images with higher resolution
and higher brightness, especially with the rapid development of film technology and the deep
commercialization of entertainment. In response to limitations to different traditional projector
technology, three chips Digital Light Processing (DLP) has been developed, heart of which is the
semiconductor based Digital Micromirror Device (DMD). Thanks to the DMD s high stability and
precise control on the light source, DLP technology has been widely used nowadays.
This paper gives an overview on basic working principles of DLP technology and discusses
advantages of DLP based applications.
Rapid development of digital electronics technology since 1970s has brought a significant
improvement on service for human beings. As one of the most well known way to display images and
videos, Digital Light Processing technology shows its revolutionary impact in respect of projection.
DLP technology was originally invented by Texas Instruments(TI) in the spring of 1996 and TI has
been devoted to this field so much that many extraordinary progresses have been made on DLP.
Though, the core device of DLP remains unchangingly Digital Micromirror Device (DMD). DMD,
also referred to as the DLP chip, is a semiconductor device which is comprised of more than one
million mirrors within an area smaller than palm and controlled by a memory chip.
The DLP systems generally can be divided into two

Similarities Between Monster And The Giver
How similar are two characters from different books? 16 year old aspiring filmmaker Steve Harmon is
good hearted but struggles to fit in. Jonas is a kind, polite 12 year old boy who is quite complacent
about his rather uneventful life. Steve Harmon from Monster and Jonas from The Giver have
similarities and differences. Although Monster and The Giver are very different books, their
protagonists still share some similarities. For example, Steve Harmon and Jonas are both very young.
Within these stories, we see both protagonists grow up and experience change. As a result of their
young age, there is a heavy focus on the future and how their decisions they make now affect how
they will live their life later. In addition, both characters change

Descriptive Essay About A Shack
Back in 1981, my dad, uncle, aunt and grandpa all helped work on building a shack in the middle of
the woods. At the time it was built, none of them could have imagined what it would mean to the
family today. I bet, back during that summer, they were only concerned with where the deer were, but
although the deer have moved on from that area, the shack still sees widespread use. Now days, we
use it for a place to sleep before going out duck hunting because of the Willow River and the many
logans that surround it. On the contrary, the shack gets used for one, non hunting event, every year:
the spaghetti feed. Because of its importance, the shack is instrumental in bringing the family together.
When I was a little boy, only about five years old, I spent my first night at the shack. Before this I had
only heard of the shack and what it looked like: barn shaped; red, chink board siding all surrounded by
trees. Now that I am finally able to go up there, I can not wait to see it for myself. The ride to the
shack was nothing standard; we had to take four wheelers through some hay fields, then get on a
county road and drive to the north for a while. After that we turn off, onto a trail along the ditch bank
near the rice paddies and follow that until we get to a clearing in the woods. At the clearing there is
not much to see; just some trees on the outside, on the left there is a 1960s looking Mack truck parked
by the ditch bank, and to the right is the way to the shack. The road is nothing more than matted down
grass, about 18 feet wide, through the woods, and as we continue through the woods I can smell the
scent of grasses and flowers, along with the smell of exhaust from the vehicle in front of us. Riding
along the trail for a while longer, I can finally see it, pushing through the trees, the shack. Getting
closer, I can smell the smoke from the wood stove, or maybe the firepit. In front, the deck juts out
from the front of the building, like a branch on a tree. On the north side of the yard is a large
woodpile, it smells of balsam and pine, and to the right of that is the old, dilapidated building my dad
and uncle lived in while building the shack. To the south of the clearing is the fire pit, with a pile of

Marching Band Monologue
It all started at the end of last summer. I m the Drum Major of my school s band, and for that reason, I
was the most nervous I had ever been in my life. At any one point, there were over 150 people
watching my every move, and it was nerve racking. Last summer, they watched me through the
hardest time of my entire life.
I was given the position in April, but until August, it was essentially just a title. Four months of
virtually nothing staring at a musical score, just before I am expected to dive headfirst into leading a
marching band. It was completely absurd, yet somehow, I managed. It was hard work, and for that
first month, I was faced with failure more often than success, but my confidence grew, and I began to
realize the true potential of the season ahead of me.
As things got better at school, things got worse at home. My father was in bad health, and it wasn t
getting better. As the summer progressed he became erratic, and he acted ... Show more content on

`` Ballad Of Birmingham `` By Randall Dudley
A girl, so very young, who already knows what a freedom march means has no idea what she will
experience. A scared mother who does not want her little girl to see what is going on has no idea what
is fixing to happen. Randall Dudley s Ballad of Birmingham, gives a clear vision of what happened
this day in 1963. The bombing at the 16th street baptist church in Birmingham, Alabama was a tragic
event for the ones in this time. The poem shows the social and historical context of what exactly was
going on during this time. The author, Randall Dudley, was born on January 14, 1914. He was born in
Washington D.C. but moved to Detroit in 1920. Randall was an African American poet, publisher,

thinks the church is much safer for her. The little girl leaves and the mother hears a loud explosion.
She immediately runs to the church to see what had happened. Her daughter is nowhere to be found.
The only thing the mother could find was one of her daughters little white shoes. Stated in an article
from the online database, The 16th Street church was the first and largest black church in
Birmingham. Located in the heart of downtown, it was known to host such historic figures as
Thurgood Marshall, W.E.B. DuBois, and, later, Hillary Clinton, as well as a junior senator from

height of the civil rights movement, Birmingham was known as Bombingham. By the fall of 1963,
there had been more than 80 unsolved bombings in the city, including at the home of A.D King,

Engaged Listening

Probably like a lot of people, I use music as an escape. However, it isn t just an escape for me. It is so
much more. There is an entire world that one note, much more a universe in one song, if we would

extraterrestrial emotions (feelings including peace, tranquility, romance, sorrow, fury, jubilation, and

in her speech, Clinton s tone shifted as she became extremely passionate. She cried, the history of
women has been a history of silence. Even today, there are those who are trying to silence our words.
But the voices of this conference and of the women at Huairou must be heard loudly and clearly: It is

Clinton takes a bold move to demand action from the leaders at the conference and in order to do that
she must shift her tone to represent the authority she wants to present. There is another time in her
speech where Clinton used an anaphora. Another point Clinton made sure to repeat is that families will
flourish (Clinton) when women are healthy and educated , full and equal partners in society , and free
from violence (Clinton). A major point in Clinton s speech was that in order to help all people to
succeed, women must first be allowed to succeed, and the people that will be directly affected because
of this success would be the families. Clinton understood that the well being of families is a point that
would connect her audience because it is a topic that concerned most people, so she made sure to
repeat that phrase several times. The mention of families is so important because even though there
were so many people who opposed her speech, but they were also groups that were concerned for the
well being of families, so she was able to use families to unite even the people who are against her.

The poem is likely about bells. In the first section, there are sleighs decorated with silver bells, which
ring merrily in the winter night. The second scene takes place in a wedding, during which golden bells
ring. The third section introduces itself with brazen alarm bells clanging as a fire wreaks havoc in the
area, while the last section concludes itself with iron bells and a funeral to address the dead. The
speaker is a person, and is likely an observer. Poe uses situational irony in section two to disguise the

Jacques Derrida was a french philosopher, best known for his semiotic theory of Deconstruction. The
term surfaced in he world of design journalism in the mid 1980 s, questioning the place of modern
design in the theory of deconstruction.
Derrida introduced the concept of deconstruction in the Book of Grammatology, published in France
in 1967. In this theory, deconstruction questions how representation inhibiits reality. How does the
surface get under the skin? In the Western fields of science, art, philosophy and literature, oppostions
such as Inside/outisde, reality/representation and mind/body are often used. Normally, one side of

Pierre Trudeau was an effective prime minister because he created the Constitution Act as well as the

Pierre Trudeau made Canada what it is today in a positive manner by creating the Constitutions Act as

everyone to have fundamental freedoms. Those fundamental freedoms included: freedom of
conscience and religion, freedom of thought, belief, opinion, expression, freedom of peaceful
assembly and the freedom of association as stated in the Constitution Act of 1982. The Act also
includes mobility rights that include: every citizen of Canada has the right to enter, remain in and

Study Of Contemporary China s Annual Conference
I attended the Centre for the Study of Contemporary China s annual conference because this year,
their topic was curious for me especially with the result of the UNCLOS decision s in China s

one I specifically attended about self determination. With 2 speakers and one main commentator, I
decided to focus on the Chinese speaker who was in China that time (conference via skype). His name
is Xu Xiaobing from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. As this was my first time attending such
scholarly conference I found it interesting how most of them were familiar with each other. I now
understand what my professor for Reconciliation talks about, how you know book authors of the same
topic because you often see each other, being invited in the same event and such. This part of the
conference began with the American professor from Tufts University then Mr. Xiaobing. He began
with the assertion that China is a sovereignty constitutionalist, rather than absolutist as most would
claim. His argument was that China for instance, promoted the Paris agreement with the United States.
As we all remember, just last month, the top two emitters of Greenhouse Gas finally agreed to ratify
the agreement. He further added that China actively participates in international laws abiding the
WTO and Paris Agreement. Just because you follow or promoted a part of something, doesn t

whole body is affected including you brain, your bloodstream, your heart, and your skin. Energy

energy drinks lead to sugar crashes. You don t want to work out and in the middle of your work out,

Importance of Food Labels
A research done in 2003 by the International Food Information Council Foundation indicated that
many consumers will refer to food labels when deciding which food item to purchase or consume. (
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. ) Many consumers say that food labels are hard to observe
and read. Food labels objective is mostly to inform consumers about the products characteristics
which actually play an important role in purchasing or the decision making process of the food

Norris Lake Research Paper
While there are many tributaries and reservoirs along the Tennessee River, Norris Lake is by far the
most popular. This large reservoir offers an impressive number of marinas along hundreds of miles of
shoreline. While this may be the area s most popular reservoir, it still retains a natural ambiance.
Natural wildlife flourish along the reservoir with songbirds singing in the sunrise in the morning and
wildflowers blooming in the spring.
For an in depth experience of the waterway, the best option is to find Norris Lake houseboat rentals.
With a houseboat, visitors can fish for bass and trout or escape the summer heat. Interestingly, Norris
Lake is known for having the largest brown trout ever caught in the state. Since the waters are

Chicago Bear History
It has been a while since the Chicago Bears have had a dominating backfield with multiple running
backs. Previous seasons of injury and players being ridden to exhaustion have kept Chicago s running
game from playing at its full potential throughout a complete season. The Bears were blessed with the
talents and abilities of Matt Forte, but this year could be the start of something amazing. In 2015,
Chicago had a mediocre running game at best throughout the season. Yes, there were moments that
stole the breath and raised the excitement of fans, but those plays were short lived and quickly
forgotten. The Bears ranked 11th in the league with 115.9 rushing yards per game. The running backs
accounted for 12 touchdowns and ran the ball for over 1,800 yards. It was the last season for Forte in a
Bears uniform but fans were given several looks at just how bright of a career Jeremy Langford could
have. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a more threatening passing game and a stronger offensive line, those numbers could have been
much higher. Many fans have questioned what kind of numbers he would be able to produce without
another breakthrough back to help carry the load. Those worries have quickly started fading away
since the Bears 5th round draft pick this year. After transferring to Indiana University, Jordan Howard
rushed for totals of 145, 159, 203, and 168 yards to become the first FBS player to rush for at least
140 yards in each of his first four games with a program in 20 years. Later in the season, Howard
rushed ran the ball for 238 yards against the University of Michigan. That is the second highest
amount Michigan has ever given up in their storied history as a football program. In his last season
with Indiana, Howard ran for over 1,200 yards and scored 9 rushing touchdowns. Those are
productive numbers for any Big Ten running back, especially Howard, considering he missed four
games with an ankle

Jaycee Lee Dugard; Kidnapped on the way to the bus. Gone for 18 years, gave birth to 2 kids to her
captor. Stockholm syndrome; emotional bonding with captors riley day syndrome, deja vu In 1991 at
the age 11, Jaycee Lee Dugard was kidnapped on her way to the bus and held captive for 18 long
years until August 26, 2009 when she was finally found and reunited with her mother. She bore two
children to her captors, Phillip and Nancy Garrido. Phillip raped her multiple times and at the age 14

Ionizing Radiation Sickness
Overview/Summary For this week s discussion board, I chose to focus on selection number two,
ionizing radiation effects on cells and tissues. Ionizing radiation is radiation that produces immediate
chemical effects on human tissue (Perez 2013). Ionizing radiation exposure can be the result of
industrial accidents, medical treatment, and radiological warfare. Alpha radiation (emitted from
substances such as polonium 210) kills cells, having the most effect on those that regenerate the most
rapidly (Huddersfield Examiner 2008). According to the CDC s physician factsheet, the primary cause
of Acute Radiation Syndrome (ARS) is the depletion of immature stem cells in tissues, which is
caused by a minimum radiation exposure of thirty to seventy rads (2005, 1). It should be noted,
however, that ARS is typically the result of medical treatment, industrial accidents, and nuclear
exposure; ARS is not equivalent to radiation sickness, which can be caused in numerous ways to
include ingestion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Notable radiation sickness symptoms include: burns, skin slough, ulcers, bleeding from open body
cavities (rectum, nose, mouth), fever, diarrhea, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting (CDC 2014; Perez
2013). It is a generally accepted rule of thumb that the worse the exposure is, the worse the symptoms
are, and the greater likelihood of death there

There are different themes which were identified using qualitative techniques and theoretical models
were used to decipher the data acquired. 2.1. Cost Benefits: The main criterion for selecting possible
alternatives for travel was the reduction and efficiency in cost (Decorla souza et al, 1997). It was a
common theme which was addressed by all jobholders. The important aspect of this theme is to
identify the platform for effective optimization of alternatives to travel. 2.2. Accessibility: It is
important for all personnel to perform to their maximum level and getting access to technology
emerged to be an important aspect on possibilities for travel alternatives (Burrus , 2009). In cases
where people are working from home, they may find it hard to effectively transform the facilities and
atmosphere persisting in their workplace (Burrus , 2009). 2.3. Evolution Of Technology: It is
remarkable to think how much alternatives have been provided due to constant enhancements in
technology (Frary, M 2004). Video conferencing, audio conferencing, teleconferencing etc have made
it easier for people to work efficiently without having to go through the burden of a stressful business
travel (Chorus Bierlaire, 2013). All the aforementioned travel alternatives have become a viable form
of communication but

Summary Of Missoula By Jon Krakeur
In Jon Krakeur s book, Missoula, he focuses on bringing awareness to the most underreported crime
of acquaintance rape. I believe it is critical for all students, male and female, to be thoroughly
informed on this subject, we need to be aware of the danger, as well as the possible repercussions, in
reporting a rape. As I begin my college journey as a freshman in a new town, I am thankful
Jacksonville State University chose this informative book as the summer read for incoming freshman.
I have never heard of an acquaintance rape, but assumed in beginning this book that it meant being
raped by someone that is a part of one s daily life. As students read this book, I believe it will be a
much needed eye opener to the reality and misguided perception

Feminist Synthesis Essay s Under The Black Flag
Man the mast! , Down with the sails, she s going down! the captain barks orders out of fear of losing
the beloved ship and his life. The storm is the worst this vessel has ever seen. As you look to your left
for help tying the rope your friend Thomas reaches out a hand to assist. Once the rope is secure you
make your way below deck to thank him but as you turn the corner, you see him take his shirt off to
ring out the water and realize that he is not a he at all; Thomas is a woman. Within the Golden Age of
Piracy, many women have been involved in expeditions on the seven seas. Throughout history we
have seen the patriarchal society built by man (pun intended) and through various reasons, women
were viewed as inferior. While times have changed and gotten better, have they changed THAT much?
Women in today s society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They typically did housework their job was to raise children. The influence of these views from
society carried over to the ships and crews. We see that many pirates and captains did not allow
women on board their ships or to be a part of their crews. In Under the Black Flag by David
Cordingly, we see that Mary Read and Anne Bonny both joined crews while being disguised as men
and proved to be just as capable at the tasks that were done by men on board. This is proven because
the men were surprised to find that Anne and Mary were in fact women because they had functioned
just as equally as men did. In fact, Anny Bonny and Mary Read were surprised to find that the other
was a female. Cordingly explains that even though Captain Jack Rackman knew Anne Bonny to be a
female when he married her, it was still necessary for her to dress and act as a man on board ship
(Cordingly 57). To dress as a man was to take advantage of the freedoms offered to men over women.
The upsetting truth is that these same freedoms, as stated before, were not offered to

The Construction Of 1km Tall Kingdom Tower Of Jeddah,...
Executive Summary
Skyscrapers are continuously increasing in height as new technologies provide solutions to unique
problems that arise as a building grows. Technological advances have given rise to categories of
towers such as super talls (defined as buildings of over 300 metres) and mega talls (over 600 metres).
The tallest building currently is the Burj Khalifa at 829.8m (Schmidt, 2013) however this will not be
the case for long, as the construction of 1km tall Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is already
underway.
With the world s natural resources in extremely short supply, it is of incredibly high importance that
we use them in the most efficient way possible, therefore significant consideration must be given to
how we use them, whether this be for huge towers or otherwise.
On top of the issue above, there is an annual increase in population of nearly 76,000,000
(Worldometers.info, 2016) and the world s urban population is also on the increase; expected to be at
70% of the planet s population by 2050 (Berg, 2016).
The next milestone height to be reached by a building is one mile. It is suggested the we certainly
could build as high as this (Berg, 2016), but whether we should is a bit more difficult to answer.
In this report, I aim to assess the benefits, drawbacks and design considerations of these enormous
structures before providing an opinion on whether I believe they should or should not be built.
Benefits

  • 2. The Writer s Duty Of William Faulkner s Nobel Prize... Addie Champlin English II AP Dr. Payne September 9 2016 The Writer s Duty In William Faulkner s Nobel Prize acceptance speech, he speaks about the true purpose of writing and the importance of genuinely putting your heart into your work. He discusses how the only way writing can truly be valuable is if the author is dedicated to showing the authentic love the human spirit holds and what that love is capable of accomplishing. A good piece of writing will show both strength and vulnerability and will not be written for fame or recognition. It will be written for the sake of creating and spreading a message that is important to the author. In their memoirs, An American Childhood and The Road from Coorain, Annie Dillard and Jill Ker Conway, both feel very strongly about their purpose for writing. Conway tends to express her reasons for writing explicitly, while Dillard chooses to do it more implicitly. In An American Childhood by Annie Dillard, she clearly demonstrates the meaning of the novel in one passage that reads, Children wake up and find themselves here, discover themselves to have been here all along; is this sad? They wake like sleepwalkers, in full stride; they wake like people brought back from cardiac arrest or from drowning: in medias res, surrounded by familiar people and objects, equipped with a hundred skills. They know the neighborhood, they can read and write English, they are old hands at the commonplace mysteries, and yet they feel themselves to have just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due to BBC3TV s failing revenue, the the BBC Corporation will essentially be saving about £30m ($46m) a year. The channel, which was targeted towards the 16 to 34 year old demographic, was unable to do so. In its first major decision since Rona Fairhead was appointed as chair of the trust last September, the regulator recognised the clear long term potential in moving online, but admitted there were clear concerns about the loss of services to the key age group, as well as the BBC s ability to try out new ideas and develop new talent. Under BBC proposals, the budget for entertainment and features such as reality television shows will be scrapped, while the bulk of the remaining reduced budget of £30m will be spent on drama and serious factual such as Murdered by My Boyfriend. The budget for personality led entertainment such as Jack Whitehall and his Dad will be halved, while scripted comedy including series like Cuckoo will see a 25% budget cut to about £10m. Factual entertainment programme Don t Tell the Bride is to move to BBC1 as part of the plans. A letter sent to Fairhead and the BBC director general, Tony Hall, in June organised by two leading independent television producers and signed by 750 stars, including Whitehall, Olivia Colman, Daniel Radcliffe, Game of Thrones star Lena Headey and Poldark s Aidan Turner, argued against the plans. • 4. A Pragmatic Philosophy Of Second Language Acquisition A Pragmatic Philosophy of Second Language Acquisition Learning a second language is an issue of immense importance in our contemporary world. Knowledge of a second language enhances a person s economic potential in the globalized marketplace. The ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend another language empowers an individual to exchange ideas across cultural and linguistic barriers. At the center of contemporary second language acquisition is the learning and teaching of English. Due to the legacy of the British Empire and the rise of the United States as the world s last remaining superpower, English has become the main international mode of communication in science, technology, business, diplomacy and popular entertainment. While educators and students worldwide may agree that learning English is paramount, many students and teachers struggle with a pragmatic means to achieve this goal. In this paper, I discuss my pragmatic philosophy of second language acquisition (SLA) based on existing literature on the topic and my experiences teaching English to second language learners in Asia and in the United States. Pragmatism To be a pragmatic language teacher means to be sensible, realistic and practical rather than to base instructional methods solely on theoretical considerations. Brown (2007) states, Pragmatic constraints on language comprehension and production may be loosely thought of as the effect of context on a string of linguistic events (p. 232). A pragmatic ... Correcting their grammar is essential; otherwise they fall into lazy habits. However, this must be done in a sensitive and caring manner. An example of this is a year 4 Portuguese boy in my class. • 6. Offshore Oil Drilling On The Environment Offshore Oil Drilling If we do nothing, it doesn t matter how we feel. And that s exactly what oil companies are banking on: out of sight, out of mind (Hart, 24). Petroleum is a naturally occurring oil found under deep layers of rock ( oil drilling ). Oil drilling is when a pipe penetrates through these several layers of rock in order to reach the petroleum oil underneath. This oil can then be purified or turned into gasoline for energy use. Offshore oil drilling, like its name describes, is specifically oil drilling on the ocean floor, away from a shore line. Offshore oil drilling incorporates a wide variety of employees ranging from business management teams to the workers on the rig. If offshore oil drilling were to come to a stop, thousands of people would lose their jobs, and raise the unemployment rate in America. Furthermore, the profit and revenue offshore oil drilling creates would come to an end. For example, tax returns, income to land and mineral owners, and access to domestic resources would all stop. (Crawford et al. 69). With so much dependence on the revenue offshore oil drilling brings in, a stop to the offshore drilling would leave citizens, dependent on these resources and incomes, left to look for new jobs and new sources of income. Secondly, the opposition makes the argument that offshore oil drilling is a crucial part of the U.S. economy, and many Americans are dependent on the oil and gas generated from it. To start, ... As opposed to focusing on the war from the romanticized Lost Cause viewpoint championed by mainstream media, this book tells the often glossed over struggles of the tenant farmers, sharecroppers, and other poor whites who supplied much of the Confederacy s fighting force. The war time experiences of these plain folk is broken up into three main sections: the actions of the Confederate government and the planter class, the plain folk s responses to these actions during the war, and how this chain of circumstances ultimately led to the downfall of the Confederacy and Union victory in the Civil War. In doing so, this book bridges a significant gap in the literature by illuminating an aspect of the war usually overshadowed by the idea that the Confederacy, composed of genteel southern gentlemen and their belles, was united behind Jefferson Davis from secession until surrender at Appomattox. A cursory examination of popular culture will reveal a very rosy picture of life in the southern United States even today. The summers are hotter, the tea is sweeter, and the conversation is slower. As per its author of Alienation, Consequentialism, and Society, Railton s opinion of what a sophisticated consequentialist is: as someone who has a standing commitment to leading an objectively consequentialist life, but who need not set special stock in any particular form of decision making and therefore does not necessarily seek to lead a subjectively consequentialist life. Sophisticated consequentialism is a hybrid, as it adopts the ideological tenants of both modalities of consequentialism and allows for the nuance of personal relationships to at times, override the adherence to a presumed action based upon the tenants of consequentialism. The sophisticated consequentialist may accept the reality that saving their one true love, is ideologically less beneficial than saving the three strangers, however the consequentialist would also take into the account of their personal feelings and the perceived total good that they may experience with that person over a lifetime as more beneficial than saving a higher quantity of strangers. At this, the sophisticated consequentialist is adopting the subjective consequentialist view of the intent to save one s love, and experience more moments with them and bring about a higher amount of happiness than saving those three strangers. In this, I believe that sophisticated consequentialism is giving credence and importance to the personal point of view, as a textbook definition of a consequentialist theory would point to saving the ... These poems were written during the Elizabethan era, which was an era mainly characterized by love and colonialism, on separate terms of course. These principles often influenced poets who lived during this period. Their poetry acts as testimonies of their underlying thoughts and desires. Furthermore, metaphysical poets deliver a more divine and profound perspective to their poetry. Within their conceits, they manage to engage and delight themselves in deeper movements. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eternal life thus defeats death and throughout the poem, John s strong background of Christianity allows him to associate death with temporary entities as he refers to death as a state of much pleasure (7). Death is conceptualized as a phase rather than an element which represents finality. Death is personified and therefore has no greater power over human beings. Death losses its fearful connotation and achieves a new meaning that makes it less intimidating and less powerful. The central theme, introduced quite early within the poem, is the helplessness of death. Throughout the poem the speaker belittles death and approaches it with such bravery and poise. Donne confronts death by saying it is not in any regard mighty and dreadful (2), but rather brings much pleasure (7). Death is personified in the poem, and in this regard, possess no greater power over man. The speaker of the poem is Donne himself. He uses his literary tools of rhetoric and poetic devices to belittle death. Throughout the poem, the speaker comes across as being slightly arrogant, but he refuses to show weakness. His arrogance shows that he is not afraid of death as he demands death not to be proud. Donne takes the association of death and sleep, and reinvents this comparison to a greater effect. He describes sleep as being pictures (5) of death and death is no more different or more frightening. He extends this metaphor throughout the poem. In the second last line of the poem he ... We join him thick in the struggle with a central concern of DJ s composition: the perils of transmission: Pray when I send you a parcel or packet do acknowledge it I care nothing about my letters or your answers I only want to know, when I have taken trouble about a thing that it has arrived. By the time he fired off those impatient words to his publisher John Murray in 1821, Byron had been living abroad and publishing overseas for five years. The transmission of DJ s first two cantos went along similarly improvised, inside lines with the distinction that the bearer of this new cargo of poesy was a only a minor acquaintance of Byron s, the roving Lord Lauderdale, who had no personal link to the lines he carried. The reader of Byron s letters of November 1818 finds many references to Lauderdale wending his way slowly towards London with verse Byron knew would make a big impact. Yet when he delivered DJ, Lauderdale also carried along with it unflattering gossip about Byron s Venetian dissipation. It was a marred delivery, with Lauderdale proving to be, Byron later wrote, a damned old Ladro porco fottuto, a son of a Bitch for all his laced Coat. Although Judaism is not as large as Islam, it has impacted on the world in a profound manner. While it s quite evident that both Islam and Judaism appear to be having conflicting differences in terms of their doctrines, they are both know as Abrahamic religions because they share a common origin in the Middle East through Abraham in the Hebrew Bible. Nevertheless, Judaism is often considered to be the oldest of all the Abrahamic religions. Most ethnographers have been more interested in understanding on how the convictions between the two religions compare, based on their religious believes about God, afterlife, the universe and people. This can be attributed to the fact that the conflict between Islam and Judaism has been viewed as a result of irreconcilable clash of religious doctrines. But, I do not believe that this is really the case. This essay will focus on drawing a comparison between Judaism and Islam so as to establish the similarities and differences that exist between them. However, as scientists were focusing only on the survival in space and the transportation there, Méliès focuses on the astronauts adventure on the moon. He ignores the probable and approaches the existence of extraterrestrial life in a fantastical way by interacting the astronauts and the moon dwellers. In Martin s painting, Martin envisions the apocalypse straight out of the Bible. However, in the Book of Revelations, the only visual given is through the text. It is most closely relatable to the text in Revelations 6. The text explores a few details in the catastrophic sight, such as mountains falling. Martin takes this reference from the Bible and combines it with his studies of dinosaur bones and fossils as a scientist. Martin could be combining science with the improbable in this detail of the painting, but that depends on whether he believed God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For decades, people have been fascinated with the concept of making images with higher resolution and higher brightness, especially with the rapid development of film technology and the deep commercialization of entertainment. In response to limitations to different traditional projector technology, three chips Digital Light Processing (DLP) has been developed, heart of which is the semiconductor based Digital Micromirror Device (DMD). Thanks to the DMD s high stability and precise control on the light source, DLP technology has been widely used nowadays. This paper gives an overview on basic working principles of DLP technology and discusses advantages of DLP based applications. Rapid development of digital electronics technology since 1970s has brought a significant improvement on service for human beings. As one of the most well known way to display images and videos, Digital Light Processing technology shows its revolutionary impact in respect of projection. DLP technology was originally invented by Texas Instruments(TI) in the spring of 1996 and TI has been devoted to this field so much that many extraordinary progresses have been made on DLP. Though, the core device of DLP remains unchangingly Digital Micromirror Device (DMD). • 25. Descriptive Essay About A Shack Back in 1981, my dad, uncle, aunt and grandpa all helped work on building a shack in the middle of the woods. At the time it was built, none of them could have imagined what it would mean to the family today. I bet, back during that summer, they were only concerned with where the deer were, but although the deer have moved on from that area, the shack still sees widespread use. Now days, we use it for a place to sleep before going out duck hunting because of the Willow River and the many logans that surround it. On the contrary, the shack gets used for one, non hunting event, every year: the spaghetti feed. Because of its importance, the shack is instrumental in bringing the family together. When I was a little boy, only about five years old, I spent my first night at the shack. Before this I had only heard of the shack and what it looked like: barn shaped; red, chink board siding all surrounded by trees. Now that I am finally able to go up there, I can not wait to see it for myself. The ride to the shack was nothing standard; we had to take four wheelers through some hay fields, then get on a county road and drive to the north for a while. After that we turn off, onto a trail along the ditch bank near the rice paddies and follow that until we get to a clearing in the woods. At the clearing there is not much to see; just some trees on the outside, on the left there is a 1960s looking Mack truck parked by the ditch bank, and to the right is the way to the shack. The road is nothing more than matted down grass, about 18 feet wide, through the woods, and as we continue through the woods I can smell the scent of grasses and flowers, along with the smell of exhaust from the vehicle in front of us. Riding along the trail for a while longer, I can finally see it, pushing through the trees, the shack. Getting closer, I can smell the smoke from the wood stove, or maybe the firepit. In front, the deck juts out from the front of the building, like a branch on a tree. On the north side of the yard is a large woodpile, it smells of balsam and pine, and to the right of that is the old, dilapidated building my dad and uncle lived in while building the shack. To the south of the clearing is the fire pit, with a pile of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At any one point, there were over 150 people watching my every move, and it was nerve racking. Last summer, they watched me through the hardest time of my entire life. I was given the position in April, but until August, it was essentially just a title. Four months of virtually nothing staring at a musical score, just before I am expected to dive headfirst into leading a marching band. It was completely absurd, yet somehow, I managed. It was hard work, and for that first month, I was faced with failure more often than success, but my confidence grew, and I began to realize the true potential of the season ahead of me. A major point in Clinton s speech was that in order to help all people to succeed, women must first be allowed to succeed, and the people that will be directly affected because of this success would be the families. Clinton understood that the well being of families is a point that would connect her audience because it is a topic that concerned most people, so she made sure to repeat that phrase several times. Energy drinks are really bad for you if you drink it a lot; they say it could affect how you work out because energy drinks lead to sugar crashes. You don t want to work out and in the middle of your work out, you get tired all of the sudden, if you drink one after you work out you would just get tired and you will start to crash. My opinion you should not drink energy drinks at all while working out. The things they put in it, it s just not worth drinking it during your work out There are a lot of effects energy drinks can do to your brain, for example Fox health says Caffeine blocks the effects of adenosine. A brain chemical that helps you sleep (which is why too much can lead to insomnia)now, think about it your sleep is affected, if you drink a lot of energy drinks it will mess up your sleeping habits. Most people drink it when they work nights to allow them to stay up. Most energy drinks are not FDA approved that means ta it s not healthy to drink it. • 45. Importance Of Food Labels By The International Food... Barbara Martino Hayes English 4 December 5, 2014 Importance of Food Labels A research done in 2003 by the International Food Information Council Foundation indicated that many consumers will refer to food labels when deciding which food item to purchase or consume. ( The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. ) Many consumers say that food labels are hard to observe and read. Food labels objective is mostly to inform consumers about the products characteristics which actually play an important role in purchasing or the decision making process of the food item. The government should be more diligent in monitoring the presence of food labels and the accuracy of their claims given the recent rise of health issues, higher frequency of food allergies, and increasing population of more aware consumers. • 46. Norris Lake Research Paper While there are many tributaries and reservoirs along the Tennessee River, Norris Lake is by far the most popular. This large reservoir offers an impressive number of marinas along hundreds of miles of shoreline. While this may be the area s most popular reservoir, it still retains a natural ambiance. Natural wildlife flourish along the reservoir with songbirds singing in the sunrise in the morning and wildflowers blooming in the spring. For an in depth experience of the waterway, the best option is to find Norris Lake houseboat rentals. With a houseboat, visitors can fish for bass and trout or escape the summer heat. Interestingly, Norris Lake is known for having the largest brown trout ever caught in the state. Since the waters are naturally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Chicago Bear History It has been a while since the Chicago Bears have had a dominating backfield with multiple running backs. Previous seasons of injury and players being ridden to exhaustion have kept Chicago s running game from playing at its full potential throughout a complete season. The Bears were blessed with the talents and abilities of Matt Forte, but this year could be the start of something amazing. In 2015, Chicago had a mediocre running game at best throughout the season. Yes, there were moments that stole the breath and raised the excitement of fans, but those plays were short lived and quickly forgotten. The Bears ranked 11th in the league with 115.9 rushing yards per game. The running backs accounted for 12 touchdowns and ran the ball for over 1,800 yards. It was the last season for Forte in a Bears uniform but fans were given several looks at just how bright of a career Jeremy Langford could have. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With a more threatening passing game and a stronger offensive line, those numbers could have been much higher. Many fans have questioned what kind of numbers he would be able to produce without another breakthrough back to help carry the load. Those worries have quickly started fading away since the Bears 5th round draft pick this year. After transferring to Indiana University, Jordan Howard rushed for totals of 145, 159, 203, and 168 yards to become the first FBS player to rush for at least 140 yards in each of his first four games with a program in 20 years. Later in the season, Howard rushed ran the ball for 238 yards against the University of Michigan. That is the second highest amount Michigan has ever given up in their storied history as a football program. In his last season with Indiana, Howard ran for over 1,200 yards and scored 9 rushing touchdowns. Those are productive numbers for any Big Ten running back, especially Howard, considering he missed four games with an ankle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Ionizing Radiation Sickness Overview/Summary For this week s discussion board, I chose to focus on selection number two, ionizing radiation effects on cells and tissues. Ionizing radiation is radiation that produces immediate chemical effects on human tissue (Perez 2013). Ionizing radiation exposure can be the result of industrial accidents, medical treatment, and radiological warfare. Alpha radiation (emitted from substances such as polonium 210) kills cells, having the most effect on those that regenerate the most rapidly (Huddersfield Examiner 2008). According to the CDC s physician factsheet, the primary cause of Acute Radiation Syndrome (ARS) is the depletion of immature stem cells in tissues, which is caused by a minimum radiation exposure of thirty to seventy rads (2005, 1). It should be noted, however, that ARS is typically the result of medical treatment, industrial accidents, and nuclear exposure; ARS is not equivalent to radiation sickness, which can be caused in numerous ways to include ingestion. ... There are different themes which were identified using qualitative techniques and theoretical models were used to decipher the data acquired. 2.1. Cost Benefits: The main criterion for selecting possible alternatives for travel was the reduction and efficiency in cost (Decorla souza et al, 1997). It was a common theme which was addressed by all jobholders. The important aspect of this theme is to identify the platform for effective optimization of alternatives to travel. 2.2. Accessibility: It is important for all personnel to perform to their maximum level and getting access to technology emerged to be an important aspect on possibilities for travel alternatives (Burrus , 2009). In cases where people are working from home, they may find it hard to effectively transform the facilities and atmosphere persisting in their workplace (Burrus , 2009). 2.3. Evolution Of Technology: It is remarkable to think how much alternatives have been provided due to constant enhancements in technology (Frary, M 2004). Video conferencing, audio conferencing, teleconferencing etc have made it easier for people to work efficiently without having to go through the burden of a stressful business travel (Chorus Bierlaire, 2013). • 51. Summary Of Missoula By Jon Krakeur In Jon Krakeur s book, Missoula, he focuses on bringing awareness to the most underreported crime of acquaintance rape. I believe it is critical for all students, male and female, to be thoroughly informed on this subject, we need to be aware of the danger, as well as the possible repercussions, in reporting a rape. As I begin my college journey as a freshman in a new town, I am thankful Jacksonville State University chose this informative book as the summer read for incoming freshman. I have never heard of an acquaintance rape, but assumed in beginning this book that it meant being raped by someone that is a part of one s daily life. As students read this book, I believe it will be a much needed eye opener to the reality and misguided perception ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Feminist Synthesis Essay s Under The Black Flag Man the mast! , Down with the sails, she s going down! the captain barks orders out of fear of losing the beloved ship and his life. The storm is the worst this vessel has ever seen. As you look to your left for help tying the rope your friend Thomas reaches out a hand to assist. Once the rope is secure you make your way below deck to thank him but as you turn the corner, you see him take his shirt off to ring out the water and realize that he is not a he at all; Thomas is a woman. Within the Golden Age of Piracy, many women have been involved in expeditions on the seven seas. Throughout history we have seen the patriarchal society built by man (pun intended) and through various reasons, women were viewed as inferior. While times have changed and gotten better, have they changed THAT much? Women in today s society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They typically did housework their job was to raise children. The influence of these views from society carried over to the ships and crews. We see that many pirates and captains did not allow women on board their ships or to be a part of their crews. In Under the Black Flag by David Cordingly, we see that Mary Read and Anne Bonny both joined crews while being disguised as men and proved to be just as capable at the tasks that were done by men on board. This is proven because the men were surprised to find that Anne and Mary were in fact women because they had functioned just as equally as men did. In fact, Anny Bonny and Mary Read were surprised to find that the other was a female. Cordingly explains that even though Captain Jack Rackman knew Anne Bonny to be a female when he married her, it was still necessary for her to dress and act as a man on board ship (Cordingly 57). To dress as a man was to take advantage of the freedoms offered to men over women. The upsetting truth is that these same freedoms, as stated before, were not offered to ... • 53. The Construction Of 1km Tall Kingdom Tower Of Jeddah,... Executive Summary Skyscrapers are continuously increasing in height as new technologies provide solutions to unique problems that arise as a building grows. Technological advances have given rise to categories of towers such as super talls (defined as buildings of over 300 metres) and mega talls (over 600 metres). The tallest building currently is the Burj Khalifa at 829.8m (Schmidt, 2013) however this will not be the case for long, as the construction of 1km tall Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is already underway. With the world s natural resources in extremely short supply, it is of incredibly high importance that we use them in the most efficient way possible, therefore significant consideration must be given to how we use them, whether this be for huge towers or otherwise. On top of the issue above, there is an annual increase in population of nearly 76,000,000 (Worldometers.info, 2016) and the world s urban population is also on the increase; expected to be at 70% of the planet s population by 2050 (Berg, 2016). The next milestone height to be reached by a building is one mile. It is suggested the we certainly could build as high as this (Berg, 2016), but whether we should is a bit more difficult to answer. In this report, I aim to assess the benefits, drawbacks and design considerations of these enormous structures before providing an opinion on whether I believe they should or should not be built. Benefits This section will explore the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
