European Baptists In America
The Baptist faith derived after the split congregation between the puritans from Holland which later
arrived in the Americas on the Mayflower. Therefore the following research will be focusing on how
migration of the European Baptists impacted lives of Americans today. Baptism is still present for
millennials today whom live in the United States because of all the ideologies that the pilgrim
pioneers kept thought religious persecution and passed to future generations.
Pilgrims wanted to escape from Holland because of the friendly influence, which mirrored in their
children, and moved to the Americas for their personal gain for exercising their religious beliefs freely.
They of course did not make up the religion of puritan , but rather than ... Show more content on

Physical Cognitive And Psychosocial Development Of...
The following chapters reviewed the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development of
adolescence, which consists of children between the ages of eleven and nineteen. The sexual
maturation process of puberty is a key developmental change that occurs in adolescent children. There
are distinct transformations that characterize a girl s development from a boy s maturation. Girls
experience the growth of breast tissue, an added layer of fat on her skin, and menstruation, while boys
develop broad shoulders, enlargement of the testes and the production of sperm (Papalia Martorell,
2014). A child s cognitive processing continues to improve throughout this developmental phase. An
adolescent can now carry out more complex problems through abstract reasoning. Structural and
functional changes are also a cognitive transformation during this age range (Papalia Martorell, 2014).
In the adolescent phase, a child s psychosocial development includes searching for identity, exploring
his/her sexuality, and relying more on peers for support (Papalia Martorell, 2014). Stages of
Development by Theorists Piaget concludes his cognitive developmental model with the formal
operational stage. Unlike the concrete operational stage, children of about eleven years old can think
abstractly. This cognitive accomplishment is crucial in academic learning because now he/she can
conduct complex mathematical problems such as algebraic problem solving (Papalia Martorell, 2014).

How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Successful
Leonardo da Vinci was a man of many talents, two talents of his where sculpting and painting. As a
sculptor Leonardo crafted many things out of beeswax, clay, and many more thing but he never did
cast anything with bronze. He was supposed to but when war with the French started he never got to.
There was many things to paint with but DaVinci preferd oil paint, made from ground pigments. Later
in his career, he worked with tempera, made from egg whites. His work surface typically would be a
canvas or board, or even stone when painting a mural. Leonardo Da Vinci had talents in all of his
studies but excelled in painting and sculpting.
Leonardo da Vinci did a lot of work for having no success with the Francesco Sforza sculpture.

The Generation Of Today s Generation
It is no secret that today s generation is the most technologically advanced in the history of the human
race, and it is a common misconception that ours is the supreme generation because of this. In
contrast, people see the low tech generation that came long before ourss as disconnected and as less
important than the current generation. This could not be farther from the truth. Our grandparents
generation may have endured different schooling and housing, and may have different mindsets than
ours, but this in no way makes them irrelevant or inadequate. These people possess a wealth of
knowledge and wisdom that we of the younger generation must not only acquire, but put into practice
if we ever plan to improve the gilded generation that we have become. Children of today s generation
attend not only kindergarten, but pre school and even some school prior to pre school. The notion that
the younger children begin to learn, the more they can learn, drives many parents to push their kids to
study and be strong academically. This is a stark contrast to the students of our grandparents
generation, who began their academic careers in the first grade with parents who were more focused
on their ability to work. Not only the age at which a student begins school differs between these
generations, so does the age where the majority of people halt their education. Where an associate s
degree today is the minimum for someone wishing to attain a stable respectably paying career, the

Self Control In Mona Gardner s The Dinner Party
Women are like roses. Roses may seem delicate and fragile, but they ll surprise you with their sharp
thorns, similar to women. When you judge a women, you ll be surprise by her reaction. The author,
Mona Gardner, of The Dinner Party writes about an event that takes place in India at a dinner party in
the 1940 s. At the party there is a spirited discussion about women and their self control in a crisis. A
young girl believes that women has as much as self control as men. Unlike the girl, the colonel says, A
woman s unfailing reaction in any crisis, the colonel says, is to scream (paragraph 3). This spirited
discussion between these characters reveal the thesis and the author s point. Self control is not
determined by gender.
To begin with, the colonel represents a rigid male perspective of the 1940 s. He helps reveal the theme
and author s point get across to the reader by showing the manly figure of the 1940 s, stereotyping of
women s self control in a crisis. In the story the colonel claims, And while a man may feel like it, he
has that ounce more of nerve than a woman has. And that last ounce is what counts. (paragraph 2) The
colonel believes this because since he is high ranking, he feels as if he is better than everybody. This

Wynnes supports the author s point, self control is not determined by gender. She reveals the author s
point because the situational irony proved that the colonel was wrong about women. The hostess, Mrs.
Wynnes, says at the end of the story that she knew the snake was in the room, Because it was crawling
across my foot. (paragraph 12) This proved that the colonel was wrong about women s self control in
a crisis. Mrs. Wynnes didn t scream when the snake crawled over her foot, instead she told the native
boy to put a bowl of milk out as bait to lure the cobra away. This shows that she had as much control

The Use of Deconstruction in Public Policy Formation
Deconstruction is a poststructural theory that has been applied with good results to such areas as
Anthropology, Architecture, Critical Legal Studies, Graphic Design, and Literary Criticism. Our
purpose is to introduce it into the practice of consulting in general, and public policy formation in
particular. Several features of the recent work of Jacques Derrida (the Philosopher responsible for
deconstruction) are relevant to our design of a Problem Tour.
Problem
A deconstructive approach to problem solving puts in question the concept of problem and the notion
of solution.
Problema can signify projection or protection, that which one poses or throws in front of oneself,
either as the projection of a project, of a task to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A tension between problem and aporia is produced by refusing the dialectical, analytical loosening of
the bonds of contradiction, and instead intensifying and multiplying them. Method is the passage, way,
or path (odos, methodos, Weg) from problem to solution. Instead, the point is to experience the
difficulty itself as such.
The question of knowing what it means to experience the aporia, indeed to put into operation the
aporia, remains. It is not necessarily a failure or a simple paralysis, but sterile negativity of the
impasse. It is neither stopping at it nor overcoming it. (When someone suggests to you a solution for
escaping an impasse, you can be almost sure that he is ceasing to understand, assuming that he had
understood anything up to that point. Let us ask: what takes place, what comes to pass with the
aporia? Is it possible to undergo or to experience the aporia, the aporia as such? Is it then a question of
the aporia as such? Of a scandal arising to suspend a certain viability? Does one then pass through this
aporia? Or is one immobilized before the threshold, to the point of having to turn around and seek out
another way, the way without

Organization Performance
Organisational Performance.
The term organisation performance relates to the past, present and future projected performance of an

Discussion Research On Parent Involvement Essay
Prior Research on Parent Involvement in Education
Before turning to our qualitative study of parent involvement in urban char
ter schools, the following sections outline the prior research on the benefits of parent involvement, the
barriers to involvement that exist, and the potential of the charter school context to reduce these
barriers.
Benefits of Parent Involvement
Decades of research point to the numerous benefits of parent involvement in education for not only
students but also for the parents involved, the school, and the wider community (Barnard, 2004;
Epstein, 2001; Fan Chen, 2001;
Henderson Mapp, 2002; Jeynes, 2003, 2007; Lee Bowen, 2006). De
spite the challenges in establishing a causal link between parent involvement and student achievement,
studies utilizing large databases have shown positive and significant effects of parent involvement on
both academic and behavioral outcomes (Fan Chen, 2001; Jeynes, 2003, 2007). For example, research
has found that parent involvement is related to a host of student achievement indi
cators, including better grades, attendance, attitudes, expectations, homework completion, and state
test results (Astone McLanahan, 1991; Cancio, West,
Young, 2004; Dearing, McCartney, Weiss, Kreider, Simpkins, 2004; Gut
man Midgley, 2000; Izzo, Weissberg, Kasprow, Fendrich, 1999; Senechal

The Human Stain By Phillip Roth
Losing your Identity
A person identity defines who they are. Unfortunately we do not get to choose our identity; yet our
identity chooses us. Even though we do not get to choose our identity, one needs to be appreciative of
their identity. In the novel The Human Stain by Phillip Roth, Coleman Silk s actions show that he is
losing his identity. Coleman Silk is a man that made irrational decisions in his life, such as making a
racial comment while teaching, lying about his race, and having an affair. In all, he was trying to find
a new identity in search for power. As results of his life decisions, Coleman Silk lost his original
identity that would dwell on him forever. It all started when professor Coleman Silk was lecturing in
class; and he called two absent students spooks . As there were still two names that failed to elicit a
response by the fifth week into the semester, Coleman, in the sixth week, opened the session by
asking, Does anyone know these people? Do they exist or are they spooks? (Roth 6). Resulting in
Coleman getting verbally attacked by the board, for making a racist phrase spooks . In the end the
spooks racists phrase precedes to Coleman Silk s resignation. Having to leave his job as a professor
and Dean of the faculty, he lost a chunk of his original identity. After the dilemma with the college,

Ethics And Ethical Impacts Of Information And...
There are various areas in which ethics and laws have extremely impacted the regulation and use of
Information Systems. Over the years of the existence of the internet and Information Systems, there
have been cases reported of an individual s privacy being breached by another person who has access
to this information within an IS. To iterate this, quoting from the Stanford Encyclopedia of
Philosophy: In most countries of the world, the information revolution has altered many aspects of life
significantly: commerce, employment, medicine, security, transportation, entertainment, and on and

and bad ways community life, family life, human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there are ethical and legal areas that are lacking and enforcing of regulations and laws is still
proving to be a challenge. The one specific area I feel this way about is that of safety. Many
Information Systems that exist have more than once been a victim to an attempted or successful
hacking attempt and this usually leads to theft of data, identity and money in the case of financial
Information Systems. Information System security is an area that needs to be improved. This can be
iterated by the following quote from useoftechnology.com: With tools like the internet, hackers have
found it very easy to hack into any computer or system as long as it is connected on internet. Hackers
can easily use an IP (Internet Protocol) address to access a user s computer and collect data for selfish
reasons. (useoftechnology.com)
One of the largest breaches occurred at Yahoo in 2015 and 2016 which compromised over 1 billion
user s personal information including myself. It was recently released that every single customer
account was hacked which equated to over 3 billion accounts including email, Tumblr, Fantasy, and
Flickr. The breach included account holders names, email addresses and passwords. If asked to enact a
law or guideline for an aspect of Information System use and regulation, Companies with access to
customers sensitive information would be required to have Cyber Security Experts as a part of their

The Argumensos Of Mario Savio s Free Speech Movement
On December 2nd, 1964, Mario Savio delivered his most famous speech on the steps of Sproul Hall
on the campus of UC Berkeley. His address, most famously known for it s passage on The Operation
of the Machine , called university students and TAs to participate in civil disobedience in order to
disrupt parts of the university s functioning. This effort was to show the administration that the
students were autonomous human beings, and not raw material to be bought by some client of the
University. The conflict between the administration and the students began with the banning of the
designated free speech area on campus. Students began to move closer to the heart of campus in
protest, setting up tables for organizations like FSM (the Free Speech Movement) in Sproul Plaza.
These actions resulted in the indefinite suspensions of Mario Savio and seven other students. In an
incident in which student protesters surrounded a police car and gave speeches atop it, the President of
the university, Clark Kerr, began negotiations with Savio and the students. However, Kerr shot down
the FSM s proposal for a committee, and tensions between the FSM and the administration increased
over the next month. FSM began to have rallies on the steps of Sproul Hall every day at noon in order
to put pressure on the administration to grant them their terms on the return of free speech areas. On
December 2nd at one of these rallies, Mario Savio delivered his speech. The most memorable lines
were as follows: There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so
sick at heart, that you can t take part; you can t even passively take part, and you ve got to put your
bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus and you ve got to
make it stop! And you ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless
you re free, the machine will be prevented from working at all! (2). The appeal to pathos in this
passage, and throughout the whole speech, is Savio s referring to himself and the other students as part
of a machine that they don t intend to be a part of. They are treated unfairly by the administration, the
machine , and are

Anthem For The Underdog Analysis
This has been one of the hardest papers I actually had to write for there are so many songs and events.
Most would say I have a somewhat normal life during this last decade. With the War on Terror started
in 2003, I was in high school at Goose Creek High School. During this time I was careless, childish,
prideful, stubborn, and somewhat idiotic. I dropped out of high school and became a bum. Eventually
I grew up a little and decided to go to Job Corp in Bristol, TN. I attended there GED and trade
program which I graduated with both. After graduation in 2006, I joined the Army six months later.
The song that comes to mind is Anthem for the Underdog by 12 Stones. The song reminds me of how

and reality. Luckily reality won out. Though I faced many challenges from mortars and rockets, at that
time the most challenging was learning how to deal with people. At the end the tour I had changed and
became colder with a cruel way of looking at life with a mean sense of a humor that somewhat
shielded me from others. The song that came with that time in my life would be Goodbye for Now by

Billy The Kid Short Story
The Death of Billy the Kid
In the period time from 1865 1890, the Plain and Indian War. It started when the Americans wanted to
expand to the Great Plains. The only problem was that the Indians lived there. In addition, the
government decided to move them to reservations that were small and farming was not possible
because the land was dry. The Indians fought for their lands and some of those battles were the Battle
of the Little Bighorn, Wounded Knee, and the Sand Creek Massacre. Furthermore, after the Indians
lost, the government gave them the opportunity to become and live like white settlers. For that, they
will have to give up on their culture, traditions, and language. Furthermore, while the Plain and Indian
Wars was going on, in the Wild West Billy the Kid was becoming a legend. In short, like every legend
there had to be an end. In the article, The Authentic Life of Billy the Kid by Garrett Pat, identify the

Analysis Of Jonathan Swift s Gulliver s Travels
Aliens are not familiar. They are not familiar to their location, to their peers, or to common activities.
They are isolated and they are outsiders. However, while they may not always belong to a physical
location, they always belong to the definition of the word alien. They might not feel comfortable in
their home or in a new place, but they feel comfortable being uncomfortable. They might belong to a
category of people who are destined to explore and learn about new surroundings, no matter what the
results may entail. The main character in Jonathan Swift s 1726 satire Gulliver s Travels belongs to
this category. Throughout the story it becomes increasingly apparent that Gulliver is destined to
forever be an alien. The more Gulliver observes others, the more detached he is from man as his views
of mankind and of himself become distorted. Despite his negative observations and changed views, he
could be mankind s wake up call. Gulliver makes voyages to various locations where his physical
differences are prominent, sparking thoughts which inspire him to challenge his species ideologies. In
Parts 1 and 2, Gulliver visits Lilliput and Brobdingnag. In Lilliput, Gulliver is captured by human
creature[s] not six inches high (2329). In Brobdingnag, everything was on a scale of 10 to 1 (2366) in
comparison to his world. In both of these locations there are apparent size differences between

Love Thy Mother Most Peculiar Essay
Abstract: Does Hamlet, a character in Shakespeare s historical play, have the Oedipus complex? Do
we truly understand the semantics of the Oedipus complex? Many critics have had different opinions.
According to Webster s online dictionary, the Oedipus complex is a complex of males; desire to
possess the mother sexually and to exclude the father; said to be a source of personality disorders if
unresolved (Webster s Online Dictionary, 2011). Another source defines the Oedipus complex as the
attachment of the child to the parent of the opposite sex, accompanied by envious and aggressive
feelings toward the parent of the same sex (Dolloff, 2006). Some do not believe he was cursed with

Although Hamlet didn t want to kill his father, the demise of his father created a mental state of
psychosis which put Claudius in the father role. This insanity brings suppressed feeling that his
subconscious was able to keep concealed. Proof that Oedipus complex exist in Hamlet s opening

such dexterity to incestuous sheets! It is not, nor it cannot come to good. But break, my heart, for I
must hold my tongue (1.2.157 159). Hamlets words are words that should on no account be on the
mind of an adult man when speaking to his mother. He expresses discuss about the marriage and this
can be interpreted that he sought Gertrude for himself. Even though it isn t affirmed in the play that
Hamlet desires to slumber with his mother numerous people have implied that the Oedipus complex
does exist. Hamlet is supposed to be avenging the death of his father; however, he is exceedingly
distracted by his mother s relationship with Claudius. Hamlet refrains from killing Claudius early on
because of the happiness he gives his mother. He often was seeking approval from his mother for his

Media Influences On Children s Life
Media influences through many types of communication systems and has a massive effect on people s
life, but are Americans fully aware that food industries generally targets children? The lawsuit brought
by two teenagers, Ms. Bradley a 19 years old, weighs 270 pounds, Ms. Pelman a 14 years old, weighs
170 pounds, was whether McDonald s was responsible for their obesity because McDonald s did not
provide the necessary information about the health risks associated with its meals that they eat.
Placing the blame into the fast food industry for allegedly contributing to their obesity and health
problems. The media through many types of advertisement promotes unhealthy foods, high in
saturated fat, large amounts of fructose sugars, salt, as the ideal food options. Many may agree that it
was their own wrongdoing that contributed to their obesity, but what about if people would give the
teenagers some credibility to their allegations. Therefore, people can take into consideration the theory
that media has a huge negative influence on what American children eat. Media influence is
something people should certainly always be aware of. Children on a daily basis read magazines,

Ghost In Hamlet
Not only does the ghost progress the story s plot, but he also aids in the development of Hamlet and
his purpose. King Hamlet says that he was murdered by Claudius, who had a scandalous relationship
with his wife prior to the murder. The ghost requests a restorative revenge (Gooch 1) through Hamlet:
Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder (1.5.25). Through this encounter with him, the ghost
establishes Hamlet as a singular character who is bestowed the role of avenger/punisher. Before
communicating with the apparition, Hamlet had a weak identity; he was still struggling with
unexpected death of his father and wasn t in a healthy mental state; but, immediately after the meeting,
Hamlet appears to be reborn with a new sense of purpose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamlet declares that he will think of nothing but vengeance for his father, which shows how much
impact the ghost had on him. This scene sets the plot of the play into motion and leads to Hamlet
feigning madness for the rest of the play, as it becomes his primary mode of interaction with
characters. King Hamlet presents the truth of the psychological condition of Hamlet, and leads Hamlet
to accept the reality of the world around him. For example, Hamlet s actions begin with hesitation
toward the ghost of his father, and how credible he is. Hamlet s own moral state is open to some
degree of doubt, and so is the validity of revenge which his character would exact. Hamlet was wary
of the ghost, whether he is a real spiritual of his father or such a devil playing with his mind especially
the appearance of the ghost as he wears a soldier metallic cloth which makes Hamlet to be in confused
condition. However, the ghost introduces himself to his son and tells him that he is the spirit of his
father, tells him the secret of his death which is by ear poison by Claudius and commands and urges
Hamlet to revenge from his uncle

Ethical Dilemmas
Abstract According to the phase 2 individual project assignment instructions, each student is asked to
look at two scenarios and answer the related ethical questions following each one (CTU Online,

consolidating entities, and to provide an example of a firm that has experienced trouble for failure to
comply with the GAAP guidelines. Ethical Dilemmas in Partnerships Scenario 1: In the first scenario,

GAAP uses to models for consolidation which are variable interest entities (VIE) and voting interest
entities. A concept does not exist for a firm with less than a majority of voting rights. According to
Ernst and Young (2011), another aspect of consolidation is the principle agent evaluation in control
assessment. This states that in VIEs, consolidation is based on economic considerations, while with
voting interest entities there is no explicit concept. Another aspect is consideration of kick out rights
and participating rights in control assessment. In this concept VIEs are substantive if unilaterally
exercisable by a single party (Ernst Young, 2011). Voting interest entities are exercisable by a majority
of parties. Consideration of related parties in control assessment states that VIEs have an aggregated
interest of related parties and de facto agents in some cases, while no consideration exists in voting
interest entities. In Investment Company accounting, the investment company records all of its
investments in entities at fair value. Where there is a decrease in ownership provisions, guidance
applies to non profit activities and businesses (with or without loss of control). Scope excludes
conveyances of oil and gas mineral rights, and sales of in substance real estate. Significant events that

The Game Of The Computer Game Essay
The computer game I will be analyzing is a free to play, 2D, one of the most popular fantasy

multiple publishers for each country such as Nexon as the big main company. The game consists of
the spectrum of both paidia and ludus concepts as players are free to improvise their characters and
objectives, however within the limits of the game. The elements I will be focusing on are the goals;
objectives of the game, societies and cultures formed through social bonding and fellowship,
economies shaped through in game currency and real cash, and the history as they all shape the game
plays differently in determining the goals of the game. Maplestory begins with mostly training;
combatting at monsters requiring you to invest a lot of time grinding it out to level up as you have
class or job advancements and learn new skills. One of the means in which one can meet specific ends
is reaching to the max level 250. This game is challenging in the aspect of leveling up at higher levels,
which keeps the player engaged and active, also to take note is when you die in the game you lose

Phaethon Analysis
1. Phaethon
Phaethon was the son of the Sun god and a mortal woman named Clymene. Phaethon went to see his
father at his palace where his father swore on Styx to grant his son one wish of whatever he desired.
He chose to drive his father s chariot and could not be dissuaded though his father warned him of the
many dangers. Once he began his journey, the horses realized it was not their owner driving the
chariot and went as they pleased, causing them to run into tons of monstrous beasts and terrors.
Phaethon then let go of the reins, which made the horses act even more rebellious and set Mother
Earth ablaze in which she replied with a cry to the gods. Jove then hurled a thunderbolt down upon the
chariot which killed Phaethon and shattered the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hercules had slayed a friend of his, resulting in punishment by Zeus to be a slave to the Queen,

Dance Is A Sport
The definition of a sport is an activity that uses physical skill in which an individual or team competes
against another or others for entertainment. When normal people think of dance they imagine
ballerinas on a stage with puffy tutus and ballet shoes on, while dancers would imagine a totally
different image. As a dancer you have a different perspective of your sport than any other non dancer
does just like an athlete of another sport. The question is dance a sport is asked everyday by dancers to
other people and with the definition of a sport, dance falls into it that category perfectly. Dance is a
sport.
Athletes are known as a person who is skilled in a sport or sports and in other forms of physical
exercise. Dancers fit that criteria and that is why dancers are athletes in a sport. First, dance is a
competitive sport and has certain rules. In the article, Dance Is it a sport? it says, Dancers compete
against other dancers and routines must comply with a set of rules. This shows dancers are athletes
because dancers go to competitions like all other sports do and compete against other teams. You
compete as a team when you dance at a studio and go to competitions, and then you might have the
option to do a solo or duet. If you just go to a competition and compete by yourself without a studio
then you normally just compete alone. You have to follow the competitions rules also because if you
don t you can get disqualified, which also happens in every other sport. Next,

A comment made by Irving himself expressed his feelings towards his characters:
I am always at a loss to know how much to believe of my own stories. (From Tales of a Traveler,
1824) (Oldstyle 1)
This comment is used to show the significance of Irving s fictional works to American literature. He
used styles such as manipulation and imagery to captivate the reader. Imagery such as in Chapter 1 of
Rip Van Winkle is enchanting and grabs the reader:
When the weather is fair and settled, they are clothed in blue and purple, and print their bold outlines
on the clear evening sky; but, sometimes, when the rest of the landscape is cloudless, they will gather
a hood of gray vapors about their summits, which, in the last rays of the setting sun, will glow and
light up like a crown of glory. (Knickerbocker 2)
This sentence, alone, shows his technique in which gives to reader a picture of what is taking place in
the piece. This style is typical now and is among many that has been brought or shared through
Washington Irving s fictional works, as well as his European experiences have brought life to his non
fictional pieces. During the seventeen years he spent in Europe (following his mother s death Sarah
Sanders Irving) from 1815 to 1832, Irving not only served many diplomatic purposes, but many (of
course) literal as well. Irving was fascinated by Spain. During his stay there, he wrote Columbus

The Jury Selection Process is a research paper that reviews the jury selection process in detail. First

paper will demonstrate why the jury selection process is necessary for the United States as well as its

In order to serve on this jury each of the potential juror had to fill out a number of different items.
First, each potential juror had to complete 79 page questionnaires that contained 294 questions (Ford
amp; Newton 1994). This questionnaire had questions pertaining the prosecution and the defense. In
addition, each candidate had to complete a one page hardship questionnaire (Ford amp; Newton
1994). Due to this difficult process the jury selection took two months to finish. By using this method
it ensured that OJ Simpson received a fair trial and know one would be biased to his situation. Another
example that we could review with a rigorous jury selection process would be the Michael Jackson
case in 2011. The defendant in the case was Dr. Conrad Murray. Dr. Murray was accused and
convicted for manslaughter because he gave Michael Jackson a powerful anesthetic and abandoned
him. The pool of perspective jurors started with 145 people (Duke, 2011). With the prosecution and
defense using their peremptory challenges, they narrow the juror list down to 84 potential jurors
(Duke, 2011). In order to further investigate, each candidate had to fill out a questionnaire that
contained 113 different questions (Duke, 2011). The prosecution and defense had a week in order to
review the questions from each juror. Each side was allowed twenty minutes in order to question each
potential juror and determine if they would be a good fit for this problematic case. By using this

Larkin and Abse both write about places in a very different, very unique style. One the one hand
Larkin talks about the places of his past and how they are no longer accessible; the changing of a
beautiful, unspoilt place to something short of an eyesore; a pace he is in but does not feel he belongs
and even places within his mind. Alternatively Abse talks longingly of the places he once lived in, and
how upsetting it is to find they are no longer the same. Some examples of the copious amount to

Moreover, in the first stanza when describing the rural area he repeatedly uses assonance. Skies and
scarecrows, haystacks, hares and pheasants these soft consonant sounds make you slow down as the
repeated s sounds become hard to say, slowing you down and not allowing you to rush past these, in
Larkin s case, beautiful little details of the countryside.
Furthermore, Larkin s poem Mr Bleaney refers to a place that the persona does not wish to be in, yet
has ended up having surrendering and suffers the consequences. Mr Bleaney is essentially a poem
about a circumstantial situation that is given as a dramatic monologue, and rather like a drama, tells a
story that is full of lucid mystery. The first half of the poem is slow and deliberate and helps to create a
macabre feel to the poem. A change of pace occurs in the second half of the poem, though is not
immediately apparent. It then seems to be despairingly urgent, as Mr Bleaney subtly moves from a
recollected past to an observed present, through his mediation with the new tenant. In addition Larkin
s use of listing creates a dull and monotonous feel to the place, giving the reader the feel that no one,
unless in a dire situation, would want to suffer living in such an undesirable place. One may argue the
most symbolic thing in the room is the sixty watt bulb . Light is a commonly used symbol to portray

Bob: When I think about what sets Capital Group Private Client Services apart, I think of three things.
I think of our firm s ownership, being a privately held company allows us to make decisions for the
very long term, in the best interested of our clients. Secondly, I think of our global reach, being a firm
that has annalists around the world thinking about where are the best opportunities for our clients.
Third is our singular focus on investment management that is all we do. So, if we don t do this well,
we have nothing else to fall back on.
Interviewer: Why is that important and different from other firms?
Bob: Being singularly focused on managing money for wealthy individuals, allows us to not be
distracted on many of the other businesses that our competitors are engaged in. For example, most of
the firms, who manage money that we compete with, earn most of their revenue from other banking,
investment banking, and insurance activities. Managing money at Capital Group is all that we do.

Essay on Donnie Darko
Donnie Darko In recent years, Hollywood has specialised in churning out mainstream trash; generic
fodder not even fit for the cutting room floor. Yet despite these movies shortcomings, they continue to
enjoy success at the box office. Sequel upon sequel, photo fit remake upon photo fit remake,
frequently taking the box office by storm whilst simultaneously relegating smaller independent
projects to the now relatively unheard of arthouse cinemas. The tragedy is that the independent

filmmaker is director Richard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, each frame speaks to us on more profound terms than the majority of arthouse films would
claim to do. This is, in part, due to the impeccable performances by each and every member of the
cast. Jake Gyllenhaal, a relative unknown, delivers a subtle yet emotionally charged performance as
Donnie himself the scene in which he tells his psychologist of his various childhood traumas is made
both funny and moving by the haunting way in which Jake delivers each line, contrasted with the
almost childish qualities of his movements on the couch. Most incredible of all, however, is his
terrifying screen presence as he trudges slowly through a deserted corridor or along a dark street, head
tilted slightly forward, face fixed in a confused, bewildered expression. Drew Barrymore is also
superb as the liberal high school teacher rejected and scorned in a Conservative education system,
while Patrick Swayze is excellent in his extended cameo, a smartly observed satire of a self help guru
with a few skeletons in the closet.
Where the movie comes into its own, however, is in its ability to incorporate and deal with a variety of
genres. Every movie genre seems to make an appearance, so much so that to categorise the movie as
simply a psychological horror or a supernatural thriller would be an unforgivable insult. Even

How Does Insulation Affect Allergies
While you may not give much thought to it, your home s insulation may be what s affecting your
allergies. Dust mites, pet dander, mildew and molds are the main indoor allergens which can affect
you and your family year round inside of your home. Whether it s an old insulation system, poorly
installed insulation, or just the wrong insulation for your home, any one of these installation issues
could be the source of your itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing, wheezing, scratchy throat or cough. Let s
look at how insulation can affect your allergies.
The insulation in your walls and attics serve a number of functions, including to keep your home at a
consistent temperature that is ideal for preventing allergy flare ups. Insulation also serves as a barrier,
sealing the walls and cracks, where pollen and grasses can find their way into your home. In your attic
or crawl space, insulation prevents little critters, like squirrels, rats, mice, opossums, cockroaches or
bats from taking up residence in your home, where they can leave droppings that can trigger your

The Year-Round School Debate
A common debate among educators and school board members is the idea of year round schooling.
While many think this is best for students education, there are factors that could make it so it doesn t
affect their education or it makes matters worse. Most students are great full for their summer break.
They schedule family vacations, which are very important, and they are able to keep jobs with little to
no conflict in the summer. If that time was to be taken away, that would negatively affect students.
There are solutions other than making school go all year round.
A fact on year round schooling is that all schools would still take extended breaks after a set amount of
dates. The US Department of Education requires 180 days of attending school a year. One idea that a
school using year round school might use is the 60 20 plan. This means that students attend school for
60 days and get 20 days off. This also applies for the 45 15 and 80 30 plans. (Vandewater) ... Show

Also, the workload required of the teachers will go up. In addition, the students will be busy with
school work when they are usually on summer break. This is when most students will get jobs so that
school doesn t interfere. An employer will not want an employee that has to leave every week or so (
The Year Round School Debate ).
On the opposing side, researchers say that the long three months in the summer that students are not
attending school is when they lose the most information. Another benefit to switching to year round
schooling is that students will not get bored over the summer. They will have shorter breaks. It is also
said that hiring a tutor over the summer is not as good as some may think (Kalil). According to
another study, teachers and students don t have to spend as much time reviewing material that the
students learned the previous year. Also some schools that have switched to year round, got extra
funds

The Christian Influence Of Australia
Australia, as a secular nation, declares freedom for all citizens in its constitution. However, it appears
for influence of Christianity is still prevalent in its political agenda. This Christian influence comes
from Australia s settlement in 1788. The underlying Christian influence affects the political agenda in
many ways: 2 of which are marriage equality, and inequality for same sex couples in adoption and
surrogacy laws.
Australia s history has many Christian roots and aspects weaved into it. This is evident even in today s
society, despite the constitutions declaration that prevents the Commonwealth from establishing any
religion. In 1788 the convicts came on the first fleet and with it comes many Christians from the
British Isles. This included many sub branches of Anglicans, Catholics, Presbyterians, Methodists,
Congregationalists, and Baptists. In the 18th and 19th centuries hundreds of Irish Catholics were
transported to Australia. In 1800 an Irish Priest arrived in Australia and the Governor King decided
that the Catholics could celebrate mass after years of not being able to hold mass. The first recorded
mass was in 1803. Later in 1804, worship was banned because Marsden believed Catholics planned
rebellions in Mass, as a consequence of harsh conditions, the Catholics rebelled. Up until the 1820s
the Catholic Church had few rights and buildings left in Australia. Two Catholic priests arrived in
1820 and were allowed to minister to Catholics. In 1829 the English

Rem Sleep Research Papers
Most people dream anywhere from four to seven times per night, with each dream progressively
lasting longer as the body remains sleeping (Woolman). Some people say they don t experience
dreaming at all, which is not possible. What they are really saying is that they don t remember their
dreams, which is perfectly normal. What many do not realize is that in order to go into a dream state ,
it can take about thirty minutes. This is considered the rapid eye movement (REM) cycle. During
REM sleep, the human brain is just as active as it is if the person was in a conscious state. The length
of a dream is determined by how long the person is sleeping. Studies have shown that drugs and

Cognitive theory on dreaming was explored by Calvin Hall, a behavioral psychologist. Hall writes,
The images of a dream are the concrete embodiments of the dreamer s thoughts; these images give
visual expression to that which is invisible, namely, conceptions ( Calvin Hall and The Cognitive
Theory of Dreaming ). Dreams are a way of displaying how we envision the our lives. Hall did a study
where he asked his students about their dreams, after studying thousands of them, he came down to
what dreams are really about. Hall suggested that the main cognitive structures that dreams reveal
include: conceptions of self, others, the world, penalties, or conflict ( Calvin Hall and The Cognitive
Theory of Dreaming ). Other studies that have been done about dreaming disclose that it can predict
what s next in life. Reports indicate dreams have foretold events upcoming in the dreamer s life,
including death. One study reports that 70 percent of women successfully predicted the sex of their
unborn child based upon dreams (Dreams Theories of Personality). Michael J. Brues, a sleep doctor,

Baptism is still present for millennials today whom live in the United States because of all the ideologies that the pilgrim pioneers kept thought religious persecution and passed to future generations. • 3. Physical Cognitive And Psychosocial Development Of... The following chapters reviewed the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development of adolescence, which consists of children between the ages of eleven and nineteen. The sexual maturation process of puberty is a key developmental change that occurs in adolescent children. There are distinct transformations that characterize a girl s development from a boy s maturation. Girls experience the growth of breast tissue, an added layer of fat on her skin, and menstruation, while boys develop broad shoulders, enlargement of the testes and the production of sperm (Papalia Martorell, 2014). A child s cognitive processing continues to improve throughout this developmental phase. An adolescent can now carry out more complex problems through abstract reasoning. Structural and functional changes are also a cognitive transformation during this age range (Papalia Martorell, 2014). In the adolescent phase, a child s psychosocial development includes searching for identity, exploring his/her sexuality, and relying more on peers for support (Papalia Martorell, 2014). Stages of Development by Theorists Piaget concludes his cognitive developmental model with the formal operational stage. Unlike the concrete operational stage, children of about eleven years old can think abstractly. This cognitive accomplishment is crucial in academic learning because now he/she can conduct complex mathematical problems such as algebraic problem solving (Papalia Martorell, 2014). • 5. The Generation Of Today s Generation It is no secret that today s generation is the most technologically advanced in the history of the human race, and it is a common misconception that ours is the supreme generation because of this. In contrast, people see the low tech generation that came long before ourss as disconnected and as less important than the current generation. This could not be farther from the truth. Our grandparents generation may have endured different schooling and housing, and may have different mindsets than ours, but this in no way makes them irrelevant or inadequate. These people possess a wealth of knowledge and wisdom that we of the younger generation must not only acquire, but put into practice if we ever plan to improve the gilded generation that we have become. Children of today s generation attend not only kindergarten, but pre school and even some school prior to pre school. The notion that the younger children begin to learn, the more they can learn, drives many parents to push their kids to study and be strong academically. This is a stark contrast to the students of our grandparents generation, who began their academic careers in the first grade with parents who were more focused on their ability to work. Not only the age at which a student begins school differs between these generations, so does the age where the majority of people halt their education. Where an associate s degree today is the minimum for someone wishing to attain a stable respectably paying career, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Self Control In Mona Gardner s The Dinner Party Women are like roses. Roses may seem delicate and fragile, but they ll surprise you with their sharp thorns, similar to women. When you judge a women, you ll be surprise by her reaction. The author, Mona Gardner, of The Dinner Party writes about an event that takes place in India at a dinner party in the 1940 s. At the party there is a spirited discussion about women and their self control in a crisis. A young girl believes that women has as much as self control as men. Unlike the girl, the colonel says, A woman s unfailing reaction in any crisis, the colonel says, is to scream (paragraph 3). This spirited discussion between these characters reveal the thesis and the author s point. Self control is not determined by gender. To begin with, the colonel represents a rigid male perspective of the 1940 s. He helps reveal the theme and author s point get across to the reader by showing the manly figure of the 1940 s, stereotyping of women s self control in a crisis. In the story the colonel claims, And while a man may feel like it, he has that ounce more of nerve than a woman has. And that last ounce is what counts. (paragraph 2) The colonel believes this because since he is high ranking, he feels as if he is better than everybody. This makes him feel that only his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wynnes supports the author s point, self control is not determined by gender. She reveals the author s point because the situational irony proved that the colonel was wrong about women. The hostess, Mrs. Wynnes, says at the end of the story that she knew the snake was in the room, Because it was crawling across my foot. (paragraph 12) This proved that the colonel was wrong about women s self control in a crisis. Mrs. Wynnes didn t scream when the snake crawled over her foot, instead she told the native boy to put a bowl of milk out as bait to lure the cobra away. • 7. The Use of Deconstruction in Public Policy Formation Deconstruction is a poststructural theory that has been applied with good results to such areas as Anthropology, Architecture, Critical Legal Studies, Graphic Design, and Literary Criticism. Our purpose is to introduce it into the practice of consulting in general, and public policy formation in particular. Several features of the recent work of Jacques Derrida (the Philosopher responsible for deconstruction) are relevant to our design of a Problem Tour. Problem A deconstructive approach to problem solving puts in question the concept of problem and the notion of solution. Problema can signify projection or protection, that which one poses or throws in front of oneself, either as the projection of a project, of a task to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A tension between problem and aporia is produced by refusing the dialectical, analytical loosening of the bonds of contradiction, and instead intensifying and multiplying them. Method is the passage, way, or path (odos, methodos, Weg) from problem to solution. Instead, the point is to experience the difficulty itself as such. The question of knowing what it means to experience the aporia, indeed to put into operation the aporia, remains. It is not necessarily a failure or a simple paralysis, but sterile negativity of the impasse. It is neither stopping at it nor overcoming it. (When someone suggests to you a solution for escaping an impasse, you can be almost sure that he is ceasing to understand, assuming that he had understood anything up to that point. Let us ask: what takes place, what comes to pass with the aporia? Is it possible to undergo or to experience the aporia, the aporia as such? Is it then a question of the aporia as such? Discussion Research On Parent Involvement Essay Prior Research on Parent Involvement in Education Before turning to our qualitative study of parent involvement in urban char ter schools, the following sections outline the prior research on the benefits of parent involvement, the barriers to involvement that exist, and the potential of the charter school context to reduce these barriers. Benefits of Parent Involvement Decades of research point to the numerous benefits of parent involvement in education for not only students but also for the parents involved, the school, and the wider community (Barnard, 2004; Epstein, 2001; Fan Chen, 2001; Henderson Mapp, 2002; Jeynes, 2003, 2007; Lee Bowen, 2006). De spite the challenges in establishing a causal link between parent involvement and student achievement, studies utilizing large databases have shown positive and significant effects of parent involvement on both academic and behavioral outcomes (Fan Chen, 2001; Jeynes, 2003, 2007). For example, research has found that parent involvement is related to a host of student achievement indi cators, including better grades, attendance, attitudes, expectations, homework completion, and state test results (Astone McLanahan, 1991; Cancio, West, Young, 2004; Dearing, McCartney, Weiss, Kreider, Simpkins, 2004; Gut man Midgley, 2000; Izzo, Weissberg, Kasprow, Fendrich, 1999; Senechal LeFevre, 2002; Sheldon, 2003). • 14. The Argumensos Of Mario Savio s Free Speech Movement On December 2nd, 1964, Mario Savio delivered his most famous speech on the steps of Sproul Hall on the campus of UC Berkeley. His address, most famously known for it s passage on The Operation of the Machine , called university students and TAs to participate in civil disobedience in order to disrupt parts of the university s functioning. This effort was to show the administration that the students were autonomous human beings, and not raw material to be bought by some client of the University. The conflict between the administration and the students began with the banning of the designated free speech area on campus. Students began to move closer to the heart of campus in protest, setting up tables for organizations like FSM (the Free Speech Movement) in Sproul Plaza. These actions resulted in the indefinite suspensions of Mario Savio and seven other students. In an incident in which student protesters surrounded a police car and gave speeches atop it, the President of the university, Clark Kerr, began negotiations with Savio and the students. However, Kerr shot down the FSM s proposal for a committee, and tensions between the FSM and the administration increased over the next month. FSM began to have rallies on the steps of Sproul Hall every day at noon in order to put pressure on the administration to grant them their terms on the return of free speech areas. On December 2nd at one of these rallies, Mario Savio delivered his speech. The most memorable lines were as follows: There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can t take part; you can t even passively take part, and you ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus and you ve got to make it stop! And you ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you re free, the machine will be prevented from working at all! (2). A comment made by Irving himself expressed his feelings towards his characters: I am always at a loss to know how much to believe of my own stories. (From Tales of a Traveler, 1824) (Oldstyle 1) This comment is used to show the significance of Irving s fictional works to American literature. He used styles such as manipulation and imagery to captivate the reader. Imagery such as in Chapter 1 of Rip Van Winkle is enchanting and grabs the reader: When the weather is fair and settled, they are clothed in blue and purple, and print their bold outlines on the clear evening sky; but, sometimes, when the rest of the landscape is cloudless, they will gather a hood of gray vapors about their summits, which, in the last rays of the setting sun, will glow and light up like a crown of glory. (Knickerbocker 2) This sentence, alone, shows his technique in which gives to reader a picture of what is taking place in the piece. This style is typical now and is among many that has been brought or shared through Washington Irving s fictional works, as well as his European experiences have brought life to his non fictional pieces. During the seventeen years he spent in Europe (following his mother s death Sarah Sanders Irving) from 1815 to 1832, Irving not only served many diplomatic purposes, but many (of course) literal as well. You must include detailed critical discussion of at least two poems by Larkin in your response. In timed conditions Gemma N Larkin and Abse both write about places in a very different, very unique style. One the one hand Larkin talks about the places of his past and how they are no longer accessible; the changing of a beautiful, unspoilt place to something short of an eyesore; a pace he is in but does not feel he belongs and even places within his mind. Alternatively Abse talks longingly of the places he once lived in, and how upsetting it is to find they are no longer the same. Moreover, in the first stanza when describing the rural area he repeatedly uses assonance. Skies and scarecrows, haystacks, hares and pheasants these soft consonant sounds make you slow down as the repeated s sounds become hard to say, slowing you down and not allowing you to rush past these, in Larkin s case, beautiful little details of the countryside. Furthermore, Larkin s poem Mr Bleaney refers to a place that the persona does not wish to be in, yet has ended up having surrendering and suffers the consequences. Mr Bleaney is essentially a poem about a circumstantial situation that is given as a dramatic monologue, and rather like a drama, tells a story that is full of lucid mystery. The first half of the poem is slow and deliberate and helps to create a macabre feel to the poem. A change of pace occurs in the second half of the poem, though is not immediately apparent. It then seems to be despairingly urgent, as Mr Bleaney subtly moves from a recollected past to an observed present, through his mediation with the new tenant. In addition Larkin s use of listing creates a dull and monotonous feel to the place, giving the reader the feel that no one, unless in a dire situation, would want to suffer living in such an undesirable place. I think of our firm s ownership, being a privately held company allows us to make decisions for the very long term, in the best interested of our clients. Secondly, I think of our global reach, being a firm that has annalists around the world thinking about where are the best opportunities for our clients. Yet despite these movies shortcomings, they continue to enjoy success at the box office. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, each frame speaks to us on more profound terms than the majority of arthouse films would claim to do. This is, in part, due to the impeccable performances by each and every member of the cast. Jake Gyllenhaal, a relative unknown, delivers a subtle yet emotionally charged performance as Donnie himself the scene in which he tells his psychologist of his various childhood traumas is made both funny and moving by the haunting way in which Jake delivers each line, contrasted with the almost childish qualities of his movements on the couch. Most incredible of all, however, is his terrifying screen presence as he trudges slowly through a deserted corridor or along a dark street, head tilted slightly forward, face fixed in a confused, bewildered expression. Drew Barrymore is also superb as the liberal high school teacher rejected and scorned in a Conservative education system, while Patrick Swayze is excellent in his extended cameo, a smartly observed satire of a self help guru with a few skeletons in the closet. Where the movie comes into its own, however, is in its ability to incorporate and deal with a variety of genres. Every movie genre seems to make an appearance, so much so that to categorise the movie as simply a psychological horror or a supernatural thriller would be an unforgivable insult. Even ... • 36. The Year-Round School Debate A common debate among educators and school board members is the idea of year round schooling. While many think this is best for students education, there are factors that could make it so it doesn t affect their education or it makes matters worse. Most students are great full for their summer break. They schedule family vacations, which are very important, and they are able to keep jobs with little to no conflict in the summer. If that time was to be taken away, that would negatively affect students. There are solutions other than making school go all year round. A fact on year round schooling is that all schools would still take extended breaks after a set amount of dates. The US Department of Education requires 180 days of attending school a year. One idea that a school using year round school might use is the 60 20 plan. This means that students attend school for 60 days and get 20 days off. This also applies for the 45 15 and 80 30 plans. • 37. The Christian Influence Of Australia Australia, as a secular nation, declares freedom for all citizens in its constitution. However, it appears for influence of Christianity is still prevalent in its political agenda. This Christian influence comes from Australia s settlement in 1788. The underlying Christian influence affects the political agenda in many ways: 2 of which are marriage equality, and inequality for same sex couples in adoption and surrogacy laws. Australia s history has many Christian roots and aspects weaved into it. This is evident even in today s society, despite the constitutions declaration that prevents the Commonwealth from establishing any religion. In 1788 the convicts came on the first fleet and with it comes many Christians from the British Isles. This included many sub branches of Anglicans, Catholics, Presbyterians, Methodists, Congregationalists, and Baptists. In the 18th and 19th centuries hundreds of Irish Catholics were transported to Australia. In 1800 an Irish Priest arrived in Australia and the Governor King decided that the Catholics could celebrate mass after years of not being able to hold mass. The first recorded mass was in 1803. Later in 1804, worship was banned because Marsden believed Catholics planned rebellions in Mass, as a consequence of harsh conditions, the Catholics rebelled. Some people say they don t experience dreaming at all, which is not possible. What they are really saying is that they don t remember their dreams, which is perfectly normal. What many do not realize is that in order to go into a dream state , it can take about thirty minutes. This is considered the rapid eye movement (REM) cycle. During REM sleep, the human brain is just as active as it is if the person was in a conscious state. The length of a dream is determined by how long the person is sleeping. Cognitive theory on dreaming was explored by Calvin Hall, a behavioral psychologist. Hall writes, The images of a dream are the concrete embodiments of the dreamer s thoughts; these images give visual expression to that which is invisible, namely, conceptions ( Calvin Hall and The Cognitive Theory of Dreaming ). Dreams are a way of displaying how we envision the our lives. Hall did a study where he asked his students about their dreams, after studying thousands of them, he came down to what dreams are really about. Hall suggested that the main cognitive structures that dreams reveal include: conceptions of self, others, the world, penalties, or conflict ( Calvin Hall and The Cognitive Theory of Dreaming ). Other studies that have been done about dreaming disclose that it can predict what s next in life. Reports indicate dreams have foretold events upcoming in the dreamer s life, including death. One study reports that 70 percent of women successfully predicted the sex of their unborn child based upon dreams (Dreams Theories of Personality). Michael J.
