• Colourless Liquid
• Stable
• Origin: Rose, rosewood, Lavender, minor
constituent of others.
• Optially active acyclic oxygenated
monoterpenoid
• Boiling point 198-199C
• Molecular formulae: C10H18O
Structure
Presence of double bond
• On bromination yield tetra bromine indicates
presence of two double bond.
OH group [tertiary alcohol]
• It reacts with PCl5 hence OH is present.
• On catalytic dehydrogenation yield oleffin
reveals that presence of tertiary OH group.
Linalool is isomeric with geraniol
steam at 200C
