Production Process Evaluation
Research
• I would say the strengths of my research were that I got five existing products to look and an
analyse. When I was analysing I added a lot of detail when talking about the products and using a
lot of good terminology which helped me progress my thoughts on how my own product was going
to turn out. I feel that after finishing this evaluation I still have some more detail I could add but
from what I have done, I’m happy with what I done. For my audience research, I feel that the
answers from that helped me with the smaller detailed such as costs and what I should add into my
products. Even though I only got about twenty one or twenty two people who answered I still got a
good direction in how I was suppose to shape my products. For the last part of the PowerPoint
which were the interviews, just like the audience research it just helped me find out how I should
involve the smaller details.
I would say that the weaknesses of my research is that my last two products I
analysed weren't up the standard of the previous three. Also, even though I
wanted a variety of products to analyse I found them a little harder to talk about
and analyse just because I probably didn’t know much about the products before
researching. The other weakness I would say is the two interviews. I would say
that my questions weren't as helpful or beneficial as much as I would have wanted
which then lead to some poor answers to my questions.
What I could do better for next time I think, is maybe pick some better
products to analyse that Would benefit me more to then give me a better
end product and of course I would think a bit more about the questions for
my interviews. Stuff that I would ask for next time are question that would
involve more about my main product instead of the smaller details. By
improving these two things I feel would effect my work in a positive by
helping me relate to my target audience better.
Planning
• The strengths of my planning were that I had a general idea of what I wanted to do straight away. This
then gave me a bit of confidence and head start on brain storming for my soon to be product. I made a
decent mood board in my opinion but I think I will return to improve it because there is a lot more I
could have added to inspire my products. The mood board was still a big help when I was losing
inspiration and it still kept me on track to finish. But all of that was also a weakness because I was
already set on one idea already I was too busy focusing on that I didn’t really focus on expanding on
other ideas which could have had other options. The other options could have possibly furthered my
products I have now. I know for next time I need to expand a lot more on each idea I have and for me
that would be a good improvement. I feel that it would effect my work in a positive way because I think
I would have a lot more density to each one of my products.
That was just for my initial plans, for my experiments I do think there were positives. I say this because
I learnt four new skills that I had never done before and it has expanding my knowledge on using
Photoshop. I even used the drip paint technique for my masthead, so this experiment was very
beneficial to my work. I really loved how that turned out and I would say its one of the best part of my
production, it just adds a lot to my front cover. I only made one practice piece of a front cover and it
wasn’t even that detailed. I only created one practice piece because I already knew what shape I was
thinking of creating so focusing on techniques were the priority. I think the weakness of my
experiments was that for the majority I didn’t actually use them in my products. I didn’t use them in
my products just due to the fact they wouldn’t of fit that well within what I was trying to create. I think
what I could improve for next time is picture techniques that I could see myself using for sure in my
work instead of just thinking party about it and then creating them to be useless. This would then
effect my work positively because I will have had more effects involved in work giving off a more
impressive look.
For my pre production, I feel that the strengths are that I got on with it and completed the work at a
good level. I found some very good fonts but there was a set back in that some of the fonts were
corrupted. So I ended up having to get two different fonts but in my opinion the new fonts were a better
then the ones I had already collected. Finding the colours were easy because even though I didn’t have a
clear thought into the exact colours I wanted I knew I would benefit from having a variety. So thats
exactly what I did, I got a variety of colours and I would say thats a strenght that paid off well. I think I
personally created some decent layouts of how my products would look like but the thing Im lacking was
a variety of designs. I think an improvement would be to design some more layouts for each product.
This stage was just as benefictial because this was the shaping stage to see what I would start creating in
production. I feel the improvement that I mentioned would of helped and maybe effected how my
products final designs look like.
Time Management
• I think personally think throughout the year I have consistently managed my time perfectly and I
have done the same again for my final major project. I have kept up with all the work and
completed everything in time whilst having enough time to move onto the next piece of work. I
got on with my production straight away and throughout the process of the production I knew my
work would keep changing and improving so by managing my time well I Improved and then
completed it all in perfect time, which gave me a good head start on this evaluation.
• Even though I completed everything on time and am very pleased with my work of course with
more time I could spend more time thinking of ways to improve the product even more. Such as
with my website I could make it look more professional and add in some techniques. Techniques
such as having a selected amount albums that you could flick through by using arrows either side
and of not being touched then having them on a set timer so they move along without being
interacted with. I feel that this would’ve elevated my work further for my website alone. Its hard
to say what improvements I could’ve done when it comes to my double page spread and front
cover because I am pleased with how both have turned out but again I still could have added little
different parts that would give them an edge on the already finished design. For example I could
mess around more with the designs and layouts more then I already did such as images, text and
colours.
Technical Qualities
The first obvious similarity between both mine and the
existing is how the images are overlapped, all being
separate images in themselves not all the same. Also the
other big similarity is that both images have the artists
looking at eye level giving that more direct feel to the
reader. Another similarity is that both magazines have
editing on the images. With the existing product it will
have been edited to look lighter to fit in the with the
rest of the cover. But with mine I edited them to be
darker to fit in with the cover.
The biggest difference between both of the products for
me are the name of each group are on opposite lengths to
each other. For the existing product, the name of the
band almost acts more as the masthead then just the
name of the group because of the positioning and size.
But with mine, the name is placed towards the bottom
but also still works well and stands out.
I think the
obvious
differences of the
two are the
choices of
colours. The
existing product is
using the typical
eye catching
colour scheme
but with my I
have just stuck to
one feel and
shade of colours
that are not
typically eye
catching but I feel
would still stand
out well on the
shelves of a store.
I feel that with
my front cover,
I have used
more effects to
give off nicer
looks and feel
the my
product. And
with the
existing
product it has
kept to amore
classic style
with only really
a minimal
amount of
effects.
Technical Qualities Both mastheads
are at the top but
the difference
between the two
are that mine
takes up a lot of
the space above
and with the
existing product is
a lot smaller and is
placed above
everything else.
For the cover lines just like the names of both groups
its switched for both where they’re again on opposite
ends of the cover. Where the existing product has
placed the cover lines work well with picture in the
background and blends nicely and works with the
whole layout. With mine I was debating and messing
around trying to do the same style as the existing
product but because of the layout I ended up placing
them in the top right corner which for me works out a
lot better for the cover itself.
The brief description of what the topic will be based
on in the magazine are placed around the same
place towards the bottom of the page. I would say
the two differences are mine is a lot shorter and is
placed with the groups name. Then with the existing
product it’s the opposite, the description is more
then just a couple of words and is completely
separate from the bands name. either layout in my
opinion works well and looks effective.
Both products
have a bar
code on the
bottom right.
The first similarity for my
product and the existing
product is that the images
are placed separately on the
left to the text on the right. I
feel that this helps
everything seem cleaner and
a lot more well presented,
hence why I chose to do this
layout style. I feel that
though the only difference
between the images are that
I know mine have effects on
them and distortions but
with Mark Ronson the image
will have been edited to look
cleaner but doesn’t seem to
have obvious effects or
distortions like mine.
The masthead on the
existing product is
something a lot more
different to what I normally
see in double page spread
but again it adds variety and
covers one side and the top
of both pages. But with my
mine I guess is a little simple
compared to the existing
product but I do have a
colour and edited masthead
that just adds more to my
design which I feel helps
balance it out.
Both mine and the existing
product have one major
similarity in the fact that
both lots of text are on the
right and are all nicely set
out in columns. This all
gives a good professional
look to the double page
spread. The layout of the
columns are slightly
different but still relate in
the same style.
Another similarity that I
didn’t spot at the stat
was that both mine and
the existing product do
involve the name of the
artist and artists. I
covered the name of the
artist for the existing
product as the mast
head. But after having a
closer look its similar to
mine in a way because
then you know who
they’re talking about and
is also placed in roughly
the same area of the
double page spread. The
reasoning of why I did
this for mine is that for
me it adds more to the
page and worked well
with how I had my
layout.
Just like my front cover, my
double page spread has a
lot more vibrance and
colour to the pages. But
again the existing product
has just a plain look with
black and white. This still
looks very good and I would
say very professional also.
But you also have to take
into consideration that my
magazine and the existing
product both are keeping
with the whole style of the
magazine and front cover.
By doing this helps
everything come together
to make the perfect
magazine.
The last similarity between
the two are that they both
show the page number. I
placed both of them but with
the existing product only one
page number is on the right
page in the bottom right.
The first similarity of both my
website and the existing
website is that both
mastheads are placed at the
top page clearly and is easy to
read. This is no different from
any other website you’ll see.
Another similarity for me
is that both websites
have a navigation bar in
the exact same place.
But the only difference
between them both is
that mine doesn’t have
as many web pages as
the existing product.
Both websites
involve social media
links which are
becoming more and
more common on
websites because it
helps connect on
multiple areas. This
is a very good way to
spread your profile,
products and news.
The existing product and my
product both have side bar
advertisements. I knew that
this is also a common feature
for websites in the present
day and wanted to design
some of my own and place
them in. By doing this it adds
more to the web pages and
gives off more of a
professional look. A reason
for websites to have the
adverts is because companies
get paid to allow them onto
their website.
Both mine and the existing
product have placed the
main topics in the central
part of the page. It’s the
more obvious place to put
the content and it a
popular layout for most
websites.
The final difference
between the two is
the colour scheme.
Just like my two
previous products
and existing, the
colour scheme will
rely on what the
other products are
such as the mast
head stays the same
font throughout all
products because
then your product
will become more
recognizable.
Aesthetic Qualities
For my front cover and double page spread, I
think that they both look very good and seem
to me a very high standard. I say this because
I'm pleased at the outcome of them both. I
think that my front cover is very creative. The
masthead and all fonts work very well and I
feel are different then most but still has the
classic look of a front covers, this is what I was
hoping to create. I like the images that I used
because I edited them in a nice and clean way
and kept them very original but keep the
backgrounds on each of them. I like them
because of how they are presenting in such a
professional way. I'm not to sure on what I
could improve at this moment in time but I’m
sure Ill spot something. I feel that the strengths
of my front cover would be the mast head and
the images used. The reason I say this is
because for me that what makes the front
cover the most appealing and eye catching. The
weakness of my magazine cover is the
placement of the cover lines and all of that
maybe could have been a bit more creative in
the placement.
For my double page spread, I really like how I've done the layout. To me its different and effective. It might
not be good in everyone's eyes but I like it. The masthead that I have implemented looks good and keeps
along style with my front cover. I also like my use of images, I didn’t just leave them bland I edited them to
look more intriguing and help fit in with the rest of my design. I like how I made the columns be roughly in
line with each member and having all the columns look in line with each other just brings my double page
spread together. When thinking of improvements, I could space out the columns more so it doesn’t seem as
cramped together. I guess in some areas of the page like the left side I could have been a little more creative
with the images. The only way I think I could improve it is just re designing the layout for the left side.
Strengths for my double page spread are I think the layout is the strong suit. The layout works and does look
very high up there and professional. I think the weakness is the page in the left. Even though I wanted
something different and was impressed with what I have created but the more I look at that side the more I
thinks it’s a weakness.
Now I think that this website is the best I have created and there are features that I do like about it but I
still feel that I could have done a way better job in most area. I like the layout that I have created and the
design itself but to me it just doesn’t feel that much like a website. I like my own made adverts, they add
a lot more to each web page. I am pleased with how it has come out. After publishing it and looking at it
from a non edited version it feels more of a website but I guess it isn’t perfect and still has a long way to
go for improvement. I'm also pleased with the content that I've placed in there to. Such as the self made
festival poster and tour poster. I feel that I designed them well and fit in with my whole image. I think the
improvements for this product would be maybe do a bit more research on other full existing products
and how well they function then maybe that’s the missing element for my website. When it comes to
strengths for my website, I would say it functions fully and it looks good aesthetically. But I the weakness
for me is that its missing someone thing, I guess the weakness is that it’s lacking that last something to
make it a decent website.
Audience Appeal
I think that I have made a very good attempt at appealing to my target audience. The parts to me that appeal to my
target audience is the colour scheme I used. The colours that I used were both masculine and feminine, such as using
the colour purple is seen as more feminine but I used a darker shade of the colour so that helps add in the masculine
side. I feel that I did this throughout my work and hopefully this aesthetically appeals to my target audience. The other
part of my work that appeals to my target audience would be the content that I added into my products such as what I
had wrote in my article about my rap group. When I got back the results of my questionnaire there were more male
then female who answered but I still think I did well on appealing to both. For question two I saw that one of the more
popular options would that the audience like to read a more professional interview, so that’s what I did. Even though it
was just less then the more popular option of having a personal interview I felt personally the professional side fit in
better with my magazine. I think also that I added in on my website the top 30 best rap albums of all time was a good
decision because the age range of what my target audience is. The audience are old enough in my opinion will have
listened to older hip/hop and I feel that also people need to be educated on where the artist listen to got their
inspiration from. I know that a lot of people I know do enjoy and listen to older hip/hop so I felt it was important to
touch up on.
Referring back to my questionnaire, fashion is a very big part in life and a young adults life. So I felt that adding in some
merchandise would be a good way that would appeal to the audience I was aiming at. I gave a variety of clothing items
to see what they would prefer to see. Obviously I did designs for the more popular options and they were hoodies and
t- shirts. For the finer details of the merchandise, I thought asking about prices and what the audience would be willing
to pay but that’s not really that much of an important part of my project. The final part of my appealing to the audience
was about advertisement. I asked what attracts you more in advertisement and the more popular answer was posters.
So what I did for this was create a tour poster and a festival poster and I think I linked in relevant colours to my other
products and did a good job on them. By doing these posters also furthered my website and added some more
information to help boost it.
Peer
Feedback
Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the colour schemes used in the magazine cover, it makes the cover look very
professional, as it is simple but eye-catching with bright background colours and darker,
contrasting text colours/effects. The different font choices are also a good aspect of this
magazine cover because the title is very memorable, making it successful. The fonts are used
to make certain parts of text stand out, for example ‘the overachievers’ are edited with an
outer glow, compared to other information in the top corner. The layout on all productions are
done nicely and it is clear a professional product has been researched and followed before and
during making these products, as they all look professional. For example the larger text of the
first letters on the double page spread. The festival poster is produced well with the colour
scheme making it stand out but also keeping it simple and easy to read for the viewer to get
the information needed.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
• I think that you could include more information on the magazine cover and
make the image on the double page spread more interesting.
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– When looking at this product the first aspect that appeals to me is the
colour scheme used, as the colours work together really well but the
use of pastel purples and yellows makes it easy on your eyes but it still
stands out and would be eye catching in stores.
– Secondly I really like the variety of products you have made in this
project not just making posters but showing your skill in writing an
article and making festival poster which has came out looking
professional.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• If there were things I would say to improve it would be the images
used could be more exciting and particularly the ones on the left of
the article could be slightly clearer just to make it that bit more
realistic.
• also a touch of yellow added to the cover page would bring all the
products together through the colour scheme.
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I like that you chose to keep the same colour scheme
throughout creating your product and I think the colours
that you have used go together very well.
– I think that you have edited the photos very well it gives
off a very professional look.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
• With the article that you have written you could make
the text size a bit bigger so that it is easy to read. You
could also have the background a different colour to
help the text stand out a bit more
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
• From the first part of my feedback, I agree with exactly what my peer likes. For example how all my colours work
well on my front cover and how my logo is memorable. Its nice to hear feedback that agrees with how I feel.
Another thing I agree with is how well I used the fonts to help it all stand out separately on the front cover. I also
agree with how I could have made the images more interesting on the double page spread. So over l agreed with
all of what my first peer talked about towards my work. For the second peers feedback, I agree on the term that
how nice my colour scheme is and how eye catching and appealing it is towards the audience. I also agree with
how pleased I am of my variety of products that I've made for this production. In the third bit of feedback its
pretty much the same thing is said and I agree completely.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
• One thing I kind of disagree with is that I should make the images on the left of my article more clearer because
that was the point. I added effects so that they would look like that but of course their point is valid and ill take
this on board for next time.
• I get that the text might be hard to read but its not suppose to be that large but ill take that on board as well.
Peer Feedback Summary
Based on the feed back that I received I think the main thing I would change is work on the
positioning of my text for the article. I think that if I do this then I Could make the text
slightly bigger which would hopefully make it easier for people to read. Also I think I will
take more time into the images that I added in even though I did spend a decent amount if
time improving them. But for whatever I receive on feedback for this whole project then Ill
really take time into looking into what needs improving for my next year of the course.

Production Process Evaluation

  • 3. Research • I would say the strengths of my research were that I got five existing products to look and an analyse. When I was analysing I added a lot of detail when talking about the products and using a lot of good terminology which helped me progress my thoughts on how my own product was going to turn out. I feel that after finishing this evaluation I still have some more detail I could add but from what I have done, I’m happy with what I done. For my audience research, I feel that the answers from that helped me with the smaller detailed such as costs and what I should add into my products. Even though I only got about twenty one or twenty two people who answered I still got a good direction in how I was suppose to shape my products. For the last part of the PowerPoint which were the interviews, just like the audience research it just helped me find out how I should involve the smaller details.
  • 4. I would say that the weaknesses of my research is that my last two products I analysed weren't up the standard of the previous three. Also, even though I wanted a variety of products to analyse I found them a little harder to talk about and analyse just because I probably didn’t know much about the products before researching. The other weakness I would say is the two interviews. I would say that my questions weren't as helpful or beneficial as much as I would have wanted which then lead to some poor answers to my questions.
  • 5. What I could do better for next time I think, is maybe pick some better products to analyse that Would benefit me more to then give me a better end product and of course I would think a bit more about the questions for my interviews. Stuff that I would ask for next time are question that would involve more about my main product instead of the smaller details. By improving these two things I feel would effect my work in a positive by helping me relate to my target audience better.
  • 6. Planning • The strengths of my planning were that I had a general idea of what I wanted to do straight away. This then gave me a bit of confidence and head start on brain storming for my soon to be product. I made a decent mood board in my opinion but I think I will return to improve it because there is a lot more I could have added to inspire my products. The mood board was still a big help when I was losing inspiration and it still kept me on track to finish. But all of that was also a weakness because I was already set on one idea already I was too busy focusing on that I didn’t really focus on expanding on other ideas which could have had other options. The other options could have possibly furthered my products I have now. I know for next time I need to expand a lot more on each idea I have and for me that would be a good improvement. I feel that it would effect my work in a positive way because I think I would have a lot more density to each one of my products.
  • 7. That was just for my initial plans, for my experiments I do think there were positives. I say this because I learnt four new skills that I had never done before and it has expanding my knowledge on using Photoshop. I even used the drip paint technique for my masthead, so this experiment was very beneficial to my work. I really loved how that turned out and I would say its one of the best part of my production, it just adds a lot to my front cover. I only made one practice piece of a front cover and it wasn’t even that detailed. I only created one practice piece because I already knew what shape I was thinking of creating so focusing on techniques were the priority. I think the weakness of my experiments was that for the majority I didn’t actually use them in my products. I didn’t use them in my products just due to the fact they wouldn’t of fit that well within what I was trying to create. I think what I could improve for next time is picture techniques that I could see myself using for sure in my work instead of just thinking party about it and then creating them to be useless. This would then effect my work positively because I will have had more effects involved in work giving off a more impressive look.
  • 8. For my pre production, I feel that the strengths are that I got on with it and completed the work at a good level. I found some very good fonts but there was a set back in that some of the fonts were corrupted. So I ended up having to get two different fonts but in my opinion the new fonts were a better then the ones I had already collected. Finding the colours were easy because even though I didn’t have a clear thought into the exact colours I wanted I knew I would benefit from having a variety. So thats exactly what I did, I got a variety of colours and I would say thats a strenght that paid off well. I think I personally created some decent layouts of how my products would look like but the thing Im lacking was a variety of designs. I think an improvement would be to design some more layouts for each product. This stage was just as benefictial because this was the shaping stage to see what I would start creating in production. I feel the improvement that I mentioned would of helped and maybe effected how my products final designs look like.
  • 9. Time Management • I think personally think throughout the year I have consistently managed my time perfectly and I have done the same again for my final major project. I have kept up with all the work and completed everything in time whilst having enough time to move onto the next piece of work. I got on with my production straight away and throughout the process of the production I knew my work would keep changing and improving so by managing my time well I Improved and then completed it all in perfect time, which gave me a good head start on this evaluation. • Even though I completed everything on time and am very pleased with my work of course with more time I could spend more time thinking of ways to improve the product even more. Such as with my website I could make it look more professional and add in some techniques. Techniques such as having a selected amount albums that you could flick through by using arrows either side and of not being touched then having them on a set timer so they move along without being interacted with. I feel that this would’ve elevated my work further for my website alone. Its hard to say what improvements I could’ve done when it comes to my double page spread and front cover because I am pleased with how both have turned out but again I still could have added little different parts that would give them an edge on the already finished design. For example I could mess around more with the designs and layouts more then I already did such as images, text and colours.
  • 10. Technical Qualities The first obvious similarity between both mine and the existing is how the images are overlapped, all being separate images in themselves not all the same. Also the other big similarity is that both images have the artists looking at eye level giving that more direct feel to the reader. Another similarity is that both magazines have editing on the images. With the existing product it will have been edited to look lighter to fit in the with the rest of the cover. But with mine I edited them to be darker to fit in with the cover. The biggest difference between both of the products for me are the name of each group are on opposite lengths to each other. For the existing product, the name of the band almost acts more as the masthead then just the name of the group because of the positioning and size. But with mine, the name is placed towards the bottom but also still works well and stands out. I think the obvious differences of the two are the choices of colours. The existing product is using the typical eye catching colour scheme but with my I have just stuck to one feel and shade of colours that are not typically eye catching but I feel would still stand out well on the shelves of a store. I feel that with my front cover, I have used more effects to give off nicer looks and feel the my product. And with the existing product it has kept to amore classic style with only really a minimal amount of effects.
  • 11. Technical Qualities Both mastheads are at the top but the difference between the two are that mine takes up a lot of the space above and with the existing product is a lot smaller and is placed above everything else. For the cover lines just like the names of both groups its switched for both where they’re again on opposite ends of the cover. Where the existing product has placed the cover lines work well with picture in the background and blends nicely and works with the whole layout. With mine I was debating and messing around trying to do the same style as the existing product but because of the layout I ended up placing them in the top right corner which for me works out a lot better for the cover itself. The brief description of what the topic will be based on in the magazine are placed around the same place towards the bottom of the page. I would say the two differences are mine is a lot shorter and is placed with the groups name. Then with the existing product it’s the opposite, the description is more then just a couple of words and is completely separate from the bands name. either layout in my opinion works well and looks effective. Both products have a bar code on the bottom right.
  • 12. The first similarity for my product and the existing product is that the images are placed separately on the left to the text on the right. I feel that this helps everything seem cleaner and a lot more well presented, hence why I chose to do this layout style. I feel that though the only difference between the images are that I know mine have effects on them and distortions but with Mark Ronson the image will have been edited to look cleaner but doesn’t seem to have obvious effects or distortions like mine. The masthead on the existing product is something a lot more different to what I normally see in double page spread but again it adds variety and covers one side and the top of both pages. But with my mine I guess is a little simple compared to the existing product but I do have a colour and edited masthead that just adds more to my design which I feel helps balance it out. Both mine and the existing product have one major similarity in the fact that both lots of text are on the right and are all nicely set out in columns. This all gives a good professional look to the double page spread. The layout of the columns are slightly different but still relate in the same style.
  • 13. Another similarity that I didn’t spot at the stat was that both mine and the existing product do involve the name of the artist and artists. I covered the name of the artist for the existing product as the mast head. But after having a closer look its similar to mine in a way because then you know who they’re talking about and is also placed in roughly the same area of the double page spread. The reasoning of why I did this for mine is that for me it adds more to the page and worked well with how I had my layout. Just like my front cover, my double page spread has a lot more vibrance and colour to the pages. But again the existing product has just a plain look with black and white. This still looks very good and I would say very professional also. But you also have to take into consideration that my magazine and the existing product both are keeping with the whole style of the magazine and front cover. By doing this helps everything come together to make the perfect magazine. The last similarity between the two are that they both show the page number. I placed both of them but with the existing product only one page number is on the right page in the bottom right.
  • 14. The first similarity of both my website and the existing website is that both mastheads are placed at the top page clearly and is easy to read. This is no different from any other website you’ll see. Another similarity for me is that both websites have a navigation bar in the exact same place. But the only difference between them both is that mine doesn’t have as many web pages as the existing product. Both websites involve social media links which are becoming more and more common on websites because it helps connect on multiple areas. This is a very good way to spread your profile, products and news.
  • 15. The existing product and my product both have side bar advertisements. I knew that this is also a common feature for websites in the present day and wanted to design some of my own and place them in. By doing this it adds more to the web pages and gives off more of a professional look. A reason for websites to have the adverts is because companies get paid to allow them onto their website. Both mine and the existing product have placed the main topics in the central part of the page. It’s the more obvious place to put the content and it a popular layout for most websites. The final difference between the two is the colour scheme. Just like my two previous products and existing, the colour scheme will rely on what the other products are such as the mast head stays the same font throughout all products because then your product will become more recognizable.
  • 16. Aesthetic Qualities For my front cover and double page spread, I think that they both look very good and seem to me a very high standard. I say this because I'm pleased at the outcome of them both. I think that my front cover is very creative. The masthead and all fonts work very well and I feel are different then most but still has the classic look of a front covers, this is what I was hoping to create. I like the images that I used because I edited them in a nice and clean way and kept them very original but keep the backgrounds on each of them. I like them because of how they are presenting in such a professional way. I'm not to sure on what I could improve at this moment in time but I’m sure Ill spot something. I feel that the strengths of my front cover would be the mast head and the images used. The reason I say this is because for me that what makes the front cover the most appealing and eye catching. The weakness of my magazine cover is the placement of the cover lines and all of that maybe could have been a bit more creative in the placement.
  • 17. For my double page spread, I really like how I've done the layout. To me its different and effective. It might not be good in everyone's eyes but I like it. The masthead that I have implemented looks good and keeps along style with my front cover. I also like my use of images, I didn’t just leave them bland I edited them to look more intriguing and help fit in with the rest of my design. I like how I made the columns be roughly in line with each member and having all the columns look in line with each other just brings my double page spread together. When thinking of improvements, I could space out the columns more so it doesn’t seem as cramped together. I guess in some areas of the page like the left side I could have been a little more creative with the images. The only way I think I could improve it is just re designing the layout for the left side. Strengths for my double page spread are I think the layout is the strong suit. The layout works and does look very high up there and professional. I think the weakness is the page in the left. Even though I wanted something different and was impressed with what I have created but the more I look at that side the more I thinks it’s a weakness.
  • 18. Now I think that this website is the best I have created and there are features that I do like about it but I still feel that I could have done a way better job in most area. I like the layout that I have created and the design itself but to me it just doesn’t feel that much like a website. I like my own made adverts, they add a lot more to each web page. I am pleased with how it has come out. After publishing it and looking at it from a non edited version it feels more of a website but I guess it isn’t perfect and still has a long way to go for improvement. I'm also pleased with the content that I've placed in there to. Such as the self made festival poster and tour poster. I feel that I designed them well and fit in with my whole image. I think the improvements for this product would be maybe do a bit more research on other full existing products and how well they function then maybe that’s the missing element for my website. When it comes to strengths for my website, I would say it functions fully and it looks good aesthetically. But I the weakness for me is that its missing someone thing, I guess the weakness is that it’s lacking that last something to make it a decent website.
  • 19. Audience Appeal I think that I have made a very good attempt at appealing to my target audience. The parts to me that appeal to my target audience is the colour scheme I used. The colours that I used were both masculine and feminine, such as using the colour purple is seen as more feminine but I used a darker shade of the colour so that helps add in the masculine side. I feel that I did this throughout my work and hopefully this aesthetically appeals to my target audience. The other part of my work that appeals to my target audience would be the content that I added into my products such as what I had wrote in my article about my rap group. When I got back the results of my questionnaire there were more male then female who answered but I still think I did well on appealing to both. For question two I saw that one of the more popular options would that the audience like to read a more professional interview, so that’s what I did. Even though it was just less then the more popular option of having a personal interview I felt personally the professional side fit in better with my magazine. I think also that I added in on my website the top 30 best rap albums of all time was a good decision because the age range of what my target audience is. The audience are old enough in my opinion will have listened to older hip/hop and I feel that also people need to be educated on where the artist listen to got their inspiration from. I know that a lot of people I know do enjoy and listen to older hip/hop so I felt it was important to touch up on.
  • 20. Referring back to my questionnaire, fashion is a very big part in life and a young adults life. So I felt that adding in some merchandise would be a good way that would appeal to the audience I was aiming at. I gave a variety of clothing items to see what they would prefer to see. Obviously I did designs for the more popular options and they were hoodies and t- shirts. For the finer details of the merchandise, I thought asking about prices and what the audience would be willing to pay but that’s not really that much of an important part of my project. The final part of my appealing to the audience was about advertisement. I asked what attracts you more in advertisement and the more popular answer was posters. So what I did for this was create a tour poster and a festival poster and I think I linked in relevant colours to my other products and did a good job on them. By doing these posters also furthered my website and added some more information to help boost it.
  • 22. Feedback 1 • What did you like about the product? – I like the colour schemes used in the magazine cover, it makes the cover look very professional, as it is simple but eye-catching with bright background colours and darker, contrasting text colours/effects. The different font choices are also a good aspect of this magazine cover because the title is very memorable, making it successful. The fonts are used to make certain parts of text stand out, for example ‘the overachievers’ are edited with an outer glow, compared to other information in the top corner. The layout on all productions are done nicely and it is clear a professional product has been researched and followed before and during making these products, as they all look professional. For example the larger text of the first letters on the double page spread. The festival poster is produced well with the colour scheme making it stand out but also keeping it simple and easy to read for the viewer to get the information needed. • What improvements could have been made to the product? • I think that you could include more information on the magazine cover and make the image on the double page spread more interesting.
  • 23. Feedback 2 • What did you like about the product? – When looking at this product the first aspect that appeals to me is the colour scheme used, as the colours work together really well but the use of pastel purples and yellows makes it easy on your eyes but it still stands out and would be eye catching in stores. – Secondly I really like the variety of products you have made in this project not just making posters but showing your skill in writing an article and making festival poster which has came out looking professional. • What improvements could have been made to the product? • If there were things I would say to improve it would be the images used could be more exciting and particularly the ones on the left of the article could be slightly clearer just to make it that bit more realistic. • also a touch of yellow added to the cover page would bring all the products together through the colour scheme.
  • 24. Feedback 3 • What did you like about the product? – I like that you chose to keep the same colour scheme throughout creating your product and I think the colours that you have used go together very well. – I think that you have edited the photos very well it gives off a very professional look. • What improvements could have been made to the product? • With the article that you have written you could make the text size a bit bigger so that it is easy to read. You could also have the background a different colour to help the text stand out a bit more
  • 25. Peer Feedback Summary • What do you agree with from your peer feedback? • From the first part of my feedback, I agree with exactly what my peer likes. For example how all my colours work well on my front cover and how my logo is memorable. Its nice to hear feedback that agrees with how I feel. Another thing I agree with is how well I used the fonts to help it all stand out separately on the front cover. I also agree with how I could have made the images more interesting on the double page spread. So over l agreed with all of what my first peer talked about towards my work. For the second peers feedback, I agree on the term that how nice my colour scheme is and how eye catching and appealing it is towards the audience. I also agree with how pleased I am of my variety of products that I've made for this production. In the third bit of feedback its pretty much the same thing is said and I agree completely. • What do you disagree with from your peer feedback? • One thing I kind of disagree with is that I should make the images on the left of my article more clearer because that was the point. I added effects so that they would look like that but of course their point is valid and ill take this on board for next time. • I get that the text might be hard to read but its not suppose to be that large but ill take that on board as well.
  • 26. Peer Feedback Summary Based on the feed back that I received I think the main thing I would change is work on the positioning of my text for the article. I think that if I do this then I Could make the text slightly bigger which would hopefully make it easier for people to read. Also I think I will take more time into the images that I added in even though I did spend a decent amount if time improving them. But for whatever I receive on feedback for this whole project then Ill really take time into looking into what needs improving for my next year of the course.
