Eating Disorders and Negative Body Images
Millions of teens and adults are faced with eating disorders and negative body images
everywhere they go. Celebrities promote unrealistic standards and display what the acceptable
body is. Because of our stick thin role models we have in the media today much of our society
holds their own body image to the unobtainable standards of celebrities. People are bombarded
with images of what s sexy instead of what s healthy (Helmich). In a world based around
celebrities and media, shouldn t they be promoting a healthy body image instead of the negative
ones we are being smothered with? Cindy Crawford in a magazine interview states, do you look
at me and want to puke? Evidently, they re not hearing or paying attention to a deafening Yes
from the seven million American girls and women who, according to Dr. Vivian Meehan, suffer
from eating disorders (Zimmerman). Even if you don t have an eating disorder, you are still
affected by the media and supermodels. Saying to yourself If I had those shoes I d look as
stunning as her , models are used to sell products but instead sell their bodies and the products are
just vamping that up. Models leave millions of young impressionable people, striving for an
unachievable perfection. Dr. Morris Fishbeinsays, Of all of the fads which have afflicted mankind,
none seems more difficult to explain than the desire of American women striving for the barber
pole figure. (Zimmerman). Why is being a bean pole so sought after? If the media

The Amendment Of The Rights Of Those Accused Of A Crime
The three amendments that are used to protect the rights of those accused of a crime include, the
Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment. The Fourth Amendment in the Constitution, contains
protection against unreasonable searches and seizures and protects people s homes, property, and
effects (as cited in Peak, 2015, p. 180). The Fifth Amendment in the Constitution, among other
protections, guards against self incrimination and double jeopardy (as cited in Peak, 2015, p. 180).
The Sixth Amendment in the Bill of Rights, guarantees the right to a speedy and public trial by an
impartial jury, the right to effective counsel at trial and other protections (as cited in Peak, 2015, p.
180). These three Amendments, in summary mean that any person who is accused of a crime is
innocent until proven guilty, and their rights are just as important as anyone else. They have the
natural born right to have their rights as citizens protected under the law, and ensure fair treatment
from law enforcement officers.
In 1993, the Supreme Court ruled a decision on the court case, Minnesota v. Dickerson. This court
case followed the court ruling in 1968, which was the original stop and frisk case, Terry v. Ohio. In
Terry v. Ohio, The Supreme Court of the United Statesheld that it is a reasonable search when an
officer performs a quick seizure and a limited search for weapons on a person that the officer
reasonably believes could be armed. A typical beat officer would be unduly burdened by

Paul Gauguin And Henri Matisse
Primitivism was a cultural attitude that arose in Europe during the late 19th and 20th century in
opposition to the increasingly decadent and materialistic European culture. Rather than an artistic
movement, primitivism is a European conception of foreign civilizations and lands as simple , less
developed, and naive. This is an important distinction to make, because primitivismwas defined in
the eyes of the Europeans who saw foreign civilizations as unsophisticated, indicating that the
concept of primitivism is heavily biased in the view of the Europeans. Paul Gauguinand Henri
Matisse were two artists that were highly influenced by the concept of primitivism, and some
similarity can be depicted in their works such as the use of female nudes, vivid colors, and artistic
techniques. However, their definition and methods of achieving primitivism differ heavily, due to
the fact that the vagueness of primitivism allows it to be a self defined concept. These similarities
and differences can be seen through the two works of art The Spirit of the Dead Watching by Paul
Gauguin, and The Blue Nude by Henri Matisse, and the way they depict women in each of the
pieces.
The first important similarity between the two pieces is the obvious use of the reclining female
nude. The female figure was a popular subject matter for the primitivists of this time, because
society viewed women to be more natural than men, who were more civilized. Society assumed that
women s

Research Paper On Ad Hominem Fallacy
Ad Hominem
Ad Hominem comes from latin and means against the man , is a common fallacy that it is used to
attack the person rather than their argument. It is a lazy and easy way to put down your opponent
with poor reasoning and bad logic. It plays with people s emotion. The attack can be true, but has
no relevance to the claims of the argument and can bias the audience. Ad Hominem fallacies are
often used in politics, media and court.
One famous Ad Hominem fallacy was when President Clinton s infidelity and lies were used to
attack decisions he made as President. Although having been unfaithful and lying about it, it did
not necessarily impact on his work as President. In this case his private life had no bearing on his
professional activities. Ad Hominem abusive fallacy was used to point out character flaws or
actions (it can even involve insults) in order to discredit his status and work. Also perpetrators
appeal to Ad Hominem abusive fallacy to exonerate themselves of their crimes. For instance,
during a recent interview, one of the six perpetrators from the 2012 Delhi gang rape case, blamed
his victim s demeanour being immoral and provocative. Therefore, he claimed that he ... Show more

A fallacy is committed when the person is not qualified or is not recognised to be a legitimate
authority on the specific subject of the argument. For instance, in commercial advertisements,
celebrities who promote products for their qualities and effectiveness are not qualified in the field
of the specific product (eg. beauty products, dietary medication, cars). The facts could be true, but
as the claim is supported on the basis that an unqualified authority or a non expert body said so, it
makes the argument difficult to believe. However the Appeal to Authority fallacy is quite common
as people have a tendency to believe in authority and experts, which can make a claim

The Pros And Cons Of British Imperialism In India
When British imperialism was first introduced to India there appeared to be on the surface,
advantages to both sides (Britain and India) however, as time went on the inherent problems that
were already deeply embedded in India were highlighted which resulted in India s move for
independence. After analysing this subject, it is clear to see there were initial advantages, many of
these advantages quickly turned into disadvantages and it was these disadvantages that led India
and its leaders to move for independence. The British Rajinitial seemed like it was out to benefit
both Britain and India however as time went on it became apparent that the British Raj were only
there to benefit Britain.

In 1921 Gandhi was elected as the president of the Indian National Congress (MapsofIndia,

MOZART S LIFEWhenever people gather to talk about musical genius, the name Mozart almost
always comes up first. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was the most sensational Wunderkind (a
German word meaning wonder child or child prodigy) in the history of music. He started playing

There were no major wars in Europe, though across the ocean the American War of
Independence raged from 1775 1783. Yet there was much discontent in Europe. People were
getting fed up with a two class social structure, in which a tiny group of rich people at the top of
the social scale held power over a vast number of poor people at the bottom, people with virtually
no rights and no way to climb out of their poverty. But power was slowly changing hands from
the aristocracy to the growing middle class. This middle class came about partly through the
Industrial Revolution, which brought a sudden, massive increase in the number of jobs available
in mines, factories, and on the railroads. It was an age of invention: from Watt s steam engine
(1775) to the hot air balloon (1783) and carbonated soda (1785)! A philosophical movement known
as the Enlightenment took hold during this period. People began to believe in the power of human
reason to solve social problems, to correct unjust behaviour, and to make their lives better. The
rights of the individual, freedom of thought, relaxation of censorship, and the gradual abolition of
child labour were just some of the changes that resulted from the

Foodborne Illnesses Of The United States
1.Introduction
Foodborne illnesses is an important problem in the United States, which cause a total of 19,056
infections, 4,200 hospitalizations, and 80 deaths were reported in 2013. Moreover, foodborne
illnesses cost the United States an estimated $152 billion per year in healthcare (Scharff, 2010;
CDC, 2014). E. coli O157 belonged Shiga toxin producing Escherichia coli (STEC), it was usually
classified pathotypically as enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) (Bryan et al., 2015).
Between 2000 and 2010 have 5688 cases of O157 STEC infections were reported by FoodNet
sentinel states, while the rate of O157 STEC infection decreased from 2.17 to 0.95 per 100,000
(Gould et al., 2013). By the way, Magwedere et al. (2013) also reported retail ground meat
samples were purchased at grocery stores, local farmers markets, and online vendors, out of 16
ground chicken samples, 7 samples tested positive for O157 STEC. On the other hand, E. coli
also causes diverse extraintestinal infections by uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC), urinary tract
infections (UTI) is a good example to illustrate. The economic burden associated with urinary tract
infections is estimated to be approximately 1.5 billion in the United States annually. According to
previous studies, the food animal and meat reservoir might exist and isolate from retail chicken
meat products for UPEC (Jakobsen et al., 2010; Shortlidge et al., 2013; Natalie et al., 2015). In
recent research suggested UPEC besides the ability to

Gender Is Not As Cut And Dry As You Might Think
Sir! Sir! Do you realize this is the ladies room? The concept of gender is not as cut and dry as you
might think. The term gender is often used incorrectly as a synonym for our biological sex.
Gender is more of a predetermined set of ideas and characteristics used in identifying socially
acceptable behaviors and appearances for the sexes. It is not determined by the biological sex of the
person. From an early age we begin to develop ideas of what it means to be male or female by
observing others. Genderfalls on a spectrum from masculine to feminine with many combinations in
between. Gender expression and gender identity are also not the same thing. Gender expression is
not related directly to how a person perceives their gender,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

People with gender Identity crises do not feel their genitalia reflects who they are inside. They
may feel a powerful drive to have their genitalia match their self image opting for sex
reassignment surgery. Gender expression is far more relaxed than it has been throughout our
history in America, but it still poses a problems for some on a daily basis. Gender expression is
one area where women have a social advantage over men. It is far more socially acceptable for a
woman to dress masculine than for a man to dress feminine; although neither are without
predigests. Using a public restrooms seems like a simple task to the majority of us. This is not
the case for people who fall outside the gender norm. Seldom does one have a choice beyond
boy s room or girl s room. This can be a very stressful environment if your outward appearance
doesn t match your biological sex. Spotlighting those who are not perceived by society as gender
normal could lead to depression, anxiety and self loathing. Something as simple as going to the
restroom in the mall could lead to a violent encounter. This would be greatly reduced of people
would just be more observant. This all because society developed rules everyone must follow in
order to be perceived as normal. Today s young people tend to be more aware of the gender
spectrum. Terms like gender identity and gender expression are better understood. Words like

How Blended Families Are Created From A Diverse Needs And...
Topic
Blended families are created from a diverse sets of needs as a result of family life changes, such as
divorce or death, and these changes result in situations where both adults and children find
themselves living with step family members stemming from both sides of the no longer intact
family structure. Deal (2014), a leading author and marriage therapist, likens the blended family to a
3 D puzzle that a person is trying to complete without the benefit of instructions or even a picture as
a point of reference. Each family is different in roles and their structure; however, most members
desire healthy outcomes and basic principles for creating well functioning family units.
Interviewees
Married in the 2007, Bill and Dawn (which are not their real names, as they require anonymity to
protect their children), currently have four children. Bill brought two children (a 9 year old son
and an 8 year old daughter) into the marriage, and Bill and Dawn now have two biological
children (a 7 year old daughter and a 4 year old daughter). The insight that they bring to the topic
of blended families comes from the past nine years of striving to create a healthy family unit. .
History
According to Lisa Zeleznikow and John Zeleznikow (2015), over 40% of adults in the United
States have at least one step relative living with them. This style of family unit is not a new

Baroque Vs Dutch
The Dutch and the French baroque paintings both portray the seventeenth century, but they show
opposite scenes. The French Painting shows that there was more of a hierarchy, at the time France
relied on rich nobles. Their economy was dominated by mercantilism; their social structure was
centered around the Versailles. The Dutch baroque painting shows that the people all see common,
not too rich, it seems as if they did not have a hierarchy. The Netherlands dominated the economy
with free trade and the social order was conservative, the same. During the 17th century when Louis
XIV was king, French Society was ruled by his program of order through hierarchy and his minister

The Dutch at the time were becoming very powerful because unlike the French they were
offering free trade. Allowing free trade was leading to the rise of power for the Dutch, they were

Dutch was going through The Golden Age and they had to finance the growing trade with the
trade routes, as a result of this the Bank of Amsterdam was created. During the time Calvinism
was the state s religion, the Netherlands were a tolerant state, but mostly the people that gained
from the Golden Age were the Protestants. During this era the middle class was beginning to rise
and was the leading class because of the free market. People were not being taxed for their
products and were able to trade with whomever they wanted. The Dutch republic was based not
like a monarchy but more anti monarchism because they believed that every citizen had a right to

Racial Minorities And Its Impact On American Society
While Southwestern boasts itself as an extremely progressive, liberal institution. The university
does meet many of the requirements to call itself these things it s staff is not very diverse. In just
the year 2015 Southwestern granted tenure to the first black male in its history Dr. Reggie Byron.
Dr. Bryon became one of just five males of color tenured at Southwestern out of 91 tenured faculty.
This represents that the faculty at Southwestern Universitystrongly under represents racial
minorities in its tenured staff. This lack of diversity exemplifies a structure of privilege at
Southwestern that disproportionately furthers the interests of white students and professors and
excludes racial minorities from the same experiences. First, the possible causes for this lack of
diversity must be shown as to expose this structure of privilege here at Southwestern. One factor
that plays a major role in the hiring of racial minorities especially at positions thought of as very
professional, which professors fall under is how society defines professionalism. The way we
visual the word professional in American society is very stigmatized and obviously benefits the
dominant group. Most of the time we picture a white male body in a suit with short, straight hair
and is well groomed. None of these indicators point to a minoritybody as being professional. This
becomes a form of colorblind racismwhere the inequality of racial minorities is contributed to
things that are not racial

Clams Are Great Pollution Detectors By Susan Linville
In the past, clams have been used to locate sources of pollution in bodies of water. They get their
food, as well as performing gas exchange, through the process of filter feeding (Linville). This
entails taking water inside of their shells and filtering it through their gills to trap food particles and
exchange gas (Linville). When doing this, they bring in the food particles they need to survive and
have the potential to bring in other materials such as toxic substances or pollutants (Linville). This
also allows for the clams to clean the water, improving water quality (Stanford). When the clams
bring in these substances, scientists are able to then analyze the tissue of the gills and find out
which substances they brought in. This ability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Air stripping removes contaminants by pumping contaminated water and evaporating the bad
chemicals. However, it can take up to a year to have any effect on cleaning the water (Safewater).
Activated carbon filtration bring pollutants through its system and collects them, but it needs to be
changed frequently, have the possibility of taking a long time to work, and are very expensive
(Safewater). Bioremediation is using microorganism to digest contaminants, but again has the
possibility of taking a long time, yet is very inexpensive (Safewater). Phytoremediation involves
using plants and trees to remove contaminants with their roots and is all natural, but it takes a very
long time and the various plants or trees that are introduced can have negative effects on the
ecosystems (Safewater). Wetlands and algae is similar to phytoremediation and is already used in
wetland habitats for the same purpose of pollution removal. Lastly, chemical oxidation uses
oxidants to change harmful chemicals into less harmful chemicals in a semi timely manner, but it
is expensive. Comparatively, Asiatic clams are easy to collect due to their prominence in many
bodies of water from past human transport and easy to

An Alternative Therapy For Cerebral Palsy
We decided to research suit therapy in the context of cerebral palsy. Suit therapy is a system of
rubber bands, hooks, and rings that connect a vest, shorts, kneepads, and specially connected shoes
(McMahon, Pruitt Vargus Adams, 2009). There is bungee like cords that continue to tighten and
adjust in order to mimic normal flexor and extensor patterns of major musclegroups in an attempt to
correct abnormal alignment (McMahon, Pruitt Vargus Adams, 2009). Wearing the suit along with
intensive physical therapy, and active motor participation by the patient for a certain amount of time
and frequency is meant to retrain normal muscle movement and improve sensory and
proprioceptive information in the brain (McMahon, Pruitt Vargus Adams, 2009). Suit therapy has
been emerging as an alternative therapy for cerebral palsy. We are researching whether or not suit
therapy treats both implications cerebral palsy has on the body, the brain and muscles. While
suit therapy seems like a great idea in theory, we are looking for proof that it has worked on
patients that have gone through clinical trials or experiments with it and that it will be an
accessible therapy able to reach the population. There are many studies done where subjects have
received suit therapy either by itself, with other intensive physical therapy, and comparing results
of suit therapy to results of other types of therapy that are established as being used for cerebral
palsy. There are many articles about cerebral

The Impact Of Income Inequality On Economic Growth
LITERATURE REVIEW The impact of Income Inequality on Economic Growth: A Case study
on Nigeria Student Number: P14173106 Supervisor: Helen Solomon Module Leader: Helen
Solomon Date: 26th November 2016 Word Count: 1.0 Introduction According to Adam Smith
(1776) in his book the wealth of nations, no society can surely be flourishing and happy, of which
the far greater part of the members are poor and miserable . Economic growth and income
inequality are central inter related facets that explain current trend in global issues. Oxfam (2016)
suggested that 62 of the richest people have the same wealth as the 3.6 billion poorest people. The
rich continue to acquire wealth, while the poor struggle for basic things required for survival like
food, access to clean water and shelter. The research question proposed is: Does income inequality
have an impact on economic growth? . This chapter highlights the key concepts and notions which
underlie the subject matter of the study in order to provide an ideal frame for understanding the
relationship between income inequality and economic growth and answering the research question.
It will also look at previous empirical studies carried out by other researchers in this field and
identify gaps in the existing literature. 2.0 Theoretical Framework and Empirical Evidence
Inequality is generally referred to unfair distribution of resource among individuals. Inequality can
vary from income, health, gender and wealth.

The Ole Miss football program faced a set back in its integration process as a result of its long
standing racial mentality and the repercussions of the integration of the university itself however,
once the team was integrated, a smooth transition was made. Of the multitude of reasons that
exists why the Ole Miss football program was so delayed in its integration process comes the
necessary role the football program played in keeping the university open during the integration
of the university itself. As the entire university went into turmoil, the football program stood
strong. During the 1962 season, which was played parallel with Meredith s appearance on

the school s near self destruction over integration, or perhaps in spite of it, the team managed the

Analysis Of Peter Jackson s The Lord Of The Rings
An individual s actions have the capacity to guide their actions and behaviours. Throughout Peter
Jackson s cinematic trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, the power of an individual s motivations is
vividly conveyed, as it influences many character s course of actions. The root of Saruman s
motivations is his allegiance to Sauron, Together, my Lord Sauron, we shall rule this Middle Earth.
(Saruman, LOTR:TTT, Jackson), as well as supplementary influences. As for Frodo, his incentives
were based on the burden of the One Ring from Bilbo, Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which
case, you were also meant to have it. (Gandalf, LOTR:FOTR, Jackson), as well as divine
intervention. Throughout the entirety of the cinematic trilogy, the ways in which an individual s
motivations direct their actions and behaviours, is vividly conveyed and is imperative to the
success and consequences of their character.
Saruman is seen as a disciple to Sauron, and serves to create an army worthy of him, Build me
an army worthy of Mordor. (Sauron, LOTR:FOTR, Jackson), so that Saruman could increase the
scale of his empire and secure the One Ring. He is depicted as a servant of Sauron; he is referred

Essay on Pepe le Moko
Julien Duvivier s film PГ©pГ© le Moko is a remarkable story, and a powerful personal account of
French colonial life. The socio political subtext of the story is an important one, which brings to the
forefront the particular allure of
Casbah and the idiosyncrasies of its inhabitants. This subtext of the narrative connotes the desire
and fascination with the exotic. Jean Gabin s character is a thief, who while running from the law
becomes immersed in the maze of the city of Casbah. In light of Edward Said s ideas of Orientalism,
specifically in terms of the cultural exchanges that take place in the affiliation of colonialism, the
foreign element (as an other ) can become a model with which Western civilization defines itself.

The intersection of this similarity is in the fact that the girlfriends taken by most of the
members of his gang are native women, and correspondingly the way that the native women are
shown occasionally as prostitutes. The magnetism that is created around PГ©pГ© and Gaby is
related to this. His fascination with her is an exhibition of his longing for the familiarity of Paris
and the sanctity of his past, a familiarity that is distant to him in Casbah. In her, PГ©pГ© is
reminded of life outside the walls of Casbah. His gradual rejection of Ines in favor of Gaby
suggests his shifting disposition and his consuming desire for Paris, possibly even a disgust of
the colonialist enterprise on a deeper level. Gaby s jewelry is a constant reminder of these ideas.
The diamond is one of the most readily identifiable symbols of the colonial process, a reminder of
the exploitation of resources by the British in
South Africa. Gaby is attracted to PГ©pГ© in a similar way. The radical distinction that he
embodies as a gangster differentiates him from the upper class, mainland
Frenchmen that she would typically be acquainted with.
The fragility of PГ©pГ© s relationship with Gaby is that it is on the verge of intangibility. On
the average day she could just as easily be his victim, as the cash value of her jewels are the main
focus of the gang.

wanted a good life? You went to college. You wanted money? College. You do not want to work at

But this is, unsurprisingly, not an option and future open to many, but not to all and it is not so
simple to come by for many. Social class, race, location, the type of education received, and an

Rhetorical Analysis Of Richard IIi s Black Legend
There is a clear pattern throughout history of propaganda, myths and contemporary sources
clouding the true reality of events. Richard III is seen to be one of England s most disputed
kings; a monarch who brings with him a legend of negative connotations. There are seen to be
many arguments as to whether or not the mischievous king was subject to be condemned by his
black legend or fits the description issued by keen Richard III adversaries. These sceptics see
Richard depicted under the black legend which in turn imply that he was the murderer of his
own nephews in the tower, murderer of his wife, Anne and wrongfully deposed Edward VI
among many more brutal monarchical actions. However, on the flipside the White Rose
Richard society base his life around the ideologies that there is little evidence to suggest the his
blackened reputation, that historical facts have been clouded by Tudor propaganda and
superstition and that fundamentally that Richard s methods were no more or less brutal than his
contemporaries. The justification for both these opinions on Richard can be argued. Play write,
William Shakespeare is a huge influence among history in how certain historical figures are
presented through his works; Richard III was subject to a play by him and as a result is further
clouded by a cloak of negativity. Shakespeare s adaptation of Richard in his plays Richard III and
Edward VI: Part III illustrates him as a deformed Machiavellian brother, who was summoned

William Shakespeare s Hamlet And King Lear
American literary critic Harold Bloom, known for his love of Shakespeare said, Shakespeare is
universal... he has hidden himself behind all of these extraordinary men and women. Shakespeare
is able to connect with many who encounter his work by creating a range of characters such as
heroes in the form of Hamletor villains in that of Claudius. Playwright William Shakespeares
Hamlet and King Leardemonstrate the manipulation of family to achieve one s ends. Personal
gain through family is a significant contributing factor to both of these tragedies. Their gifts of
language and its delivery is a clear example as well as these villains having no qualms about
ignoring morals, and betraying their own blood. Despite the tragic endings, there is... Show more

At the same time, he tries to establish his role as a father figure to Hamlet while addressing the
Danish Court, and informing them of his marriage to his brother s widow. Tis unmanly grief/ It
shows a will most incorrect to heaven/ A heart unfortified, a mind impatient/ ... And with no less
nobility of love/ Than that which dearest father bears his son (Hamlet 1.2.94 96, 110 111).
Claudius calls Hamlet s grieving unmanly and urges him to move on, because death is only natural.
Moreover, he insultingly claims to feel the most honourable love that a father can have for his son.
In comparison, the main plot in King Lear starts to develop quickly from the beginning when
Lear holds a contest for his daughters. He claims that whichever one of them loves him the most
will receive the biggest piece of the kingdom upon his retirement. Regan and Goneril, seizing an
opportunity for power, are quick to flatter their father with the empty words they know he is
seeking. I love you more than word can wield the matter;/ Dearer than eyesight, space and
liberty;/ ... Beyond all manner of so much I love you (King Lear 1.1.56 57, 62). Goneril
immediately catches on telling her father that words alone can never express her love. She says
that she loves him more than those comparisons she has made. Not to be outdone, Regan has her
chance at claiming that her love for Lear is greater than that of her

Treatment Options For Children With Adolescent Idiopathic
Treatment Options for children with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
Parents of children diagnosed with AIS (Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis) face difficult decisions
when determining a course of treatment. The information received from the child s doctor or
orthopedist may be the only reference parents have to base decisions on. This may leave many
unanswered questions regarding the child s treatment, effects of treatment and long term quality of
life after treatment. Like most parents, upon hearing my daughter s diagnosis, a million questions
came to mind including what does this mean for her health, can she still play sports, will she have
pain, and mostly, will she live a normal life?

While back pain is not a normal sign of scoliosis, it was the only thing my daughter complained
about and it can indicate a secondary condition such as spondylolisthesis, syringomyelia, tethered
cord, herniated disc or spinal tumor. (Asher Burton, 2006)
Diagnosis for scoliosis via a standard exam can be easily detected using the Adam s Forward
Bend Test. During this test, the patient leans forward with his/her feet together and bends 90
degrees at the waist revealing any asymmetry on the truck or any abnormal spinal curvatures. If
abnormalities are detected an x ray, spinal radiograph, CT scan or MRI will be used for more
accurate diagnosis. Curves are then measured by the Cobb Method with the higher severity
depicted by a greater curve. (AANS, May 2016) Statement of Problem: Interventions and treatments
for AIS have evolved over the years, however long term study documenting outcomes are rare. To
properly study a case from diagnosis to completion would encompass a minimum of thirty years.
Effects of treatment are unknown due to lack of comprehensive studies. This leaves parents of AIS
patients at the mercy of doctors and orthopedists who themselves have not

Macy s A Company Overview
Macy s: A Company Overview In 1858 in New York City on the cross streets of 14th and 6th

before our day of gluttony and football watching we all turn the television channel to the Macy s
Thanksgiving Parade. Where millions of people gather while a parade of balloons, artists,
musicians, and companies wind their way to 34th street in anticipation of the Christmas season.
At the time every child waits for Santa Claus to cap off the parade in a grand fashion. R.H. Macy:
A Man Undetermined to Fail Macy s originally started off as a fancy dry goods store. 36 year old
Rowland Hussey Macy was excited by his store s success at the end of the fiscal year where he
grossed $85,000.00. Macy was unsuccessful in many previous retail ventures and his success in
the dry goods business caused him to display a red star as the new symbol for his store. This was
meant to symbolize his final success. The original symbol was a red rooster. It is hard to
imagine in modern time a rooster waddling down the parade route Thanksgiving morning. The
red star was a tattoo Macy had received during days he spent at sea. Macy grew up in the retail
business. On the small island of Nantucket he worked for his father in his store. Macy left home

Large Scale Change in Business
The business model is a design for a successful operation in business, identifying revenue sources,
customer base, product and details of financing. It describes the method of how an organization or
company creates, deliver and capture values in economics, social and cultural contexts. The
business model may also be used by the company to generate revenue and make profits from the
operations. The module, therefore, includes the components and functions of a business.
Large scale change
Short term plans There are several factors that should be considered before starting a business.
These factors could be personal, social, environmental, cultural among others. Some of these factors
include changing one s standard of living, start up cost among other factors. The financial state of
the company must be considered before starting a business or expanding it to other places. At this
stage, one considers business loans from financial institutions. Such institutions could be banks,
finance brokers and other loan brokers putting into consideration there different interest rates. For
the business to succeed there must be a plan as to what business of instance a franchise, buying
into an existing business or starting a business from the bottom. Expanding business in some new
areas always requires good research and proper design making. In this case, for instance opening a
jewelry shop in Shangai china will need some research done, and it is, therefore, important to try it

Soybean cyst management tactics include different method from place to place, but all have the
common method of using resistant soybean cultivar and crop rotation and these are found to be
more effective than others.(Niblack et al., 2003, Schmitt et al., 2004). Lotus japonicus is one of
the important model leguminous plant to study the interaction and compatibility of plant

these cultivar because of continues planting of the same variety supports the pathogen to changing
the race for overcoming the resistance (Niblack, 2005, Tylka Mullaney, 2002). Only occasional
planting of SCN resistant without any rotation allow to reproduce aggressively in resistant line
because of selection pressure allowing changing the race to overcome resistance (Young, 1998,
Young Hartwig, 1988, Young, 1984) Annual ryegrass, Lolium multiflorum residue is found to be
effective to reduce the H. glycines population by increasing the hatching of eggs of nematode in
the absence of host and depletion of lipid reserved in juvenile and decreases the parasitism of the
pathogen. (Riga et al., 2001, Mock et al., 2009) Rotation between resistant soybean and corn

Many opposed this event by turning to Monasticism, these people wanted to devote their lives to
God, but despite of all of this Weisser notes that Oneness still exist.
Chapter 6
This chapter explains the events taking place in the eighth through fifthteenth centuries (middle
Ages). It is when secular leaders are struggling against the papacy for power. During this time the
crusades took place. The main problem in the middle Ages was between the pope and the king, this
desire for power caused the churches from the East and West to separate. This made the Cathari and
Waldenses to question the authority of the pope and placed Biblical authority over men.
Chapter 7
In chapter seven Weisser takes a deep look into the Reformation, and how the printing of pamphlets
in mass number can cause a greater influence than before. The Catholic Church had become very
corrupt and caused men like Martin Luther and John Calvin to push against the church abuse. These
men had different views, but for the most part they agreed. We also see the Oneness of God
doctrine in the sixth and seventeenth centuries. This was inspired by Michael Servetus and once
again the challenge of this pagan doctrine (Trinitarians) would last for two centuries.
Chapter 8
In this chapter Weisser explains how the Enlightenment period disagreed with the Reformation, this
caused separation within the Christian church. This period also brought the

Zinc Oxide Semiconductors Nanowires ( The ) For Gas Detection
Tin Oxide Semiconductors Nanowires(NW) for Gas Detection.
In the recent years nanoscale sensors have become more and more popular. When making a
nanostructure based sensor the most important aspects that have to be taken into account are:
sensitivity, selectivity and stability. The way gas sensors function is determined by the convection
of electrical conductivity due to surface reactions such as oxidation or reduction caused by the
exposure to different types of gases. Recently a great quantity of effort has been put into resolving
important issues like novel sensing material resources, data analytical method (Fast Fourier and

Tin oxide gas sensors have been manufactured in the form of thin foils in which nanosized grains
are screen printed onto prefabricated electrons, followed by torching at high temperatures. These
sensors can easily detect substances like hydrogen, vapour particles emitted by alcohol, oxygen, and
dangerous gases like carbon monoxide [2 3]. This technology is desirable because it has a large
number of advantages: small dimensions, low production costs, low power consumption, on line
operation and high compatibility with microelectric processing. Moreover the necessity for gas
sensors is very important due to the fact that many kinds of gases are emitted from various
sources into the places where we work, where we live or in the outdoors. Many of these gases are
dangerous to human beings and also to the environment [4]. Furthermore most gases have a very
low concentration therefore sensing devices must be able to detect the presence of this hazardous
gases very effectively and monitor them so that no life threatening problems develop. Therefore this
technology has a wide range of appliation, from industrial applications to household safety.
Nanowire sensor manufacture.
One dimensional (1 D) nanowires have found an application in the field of gas sensors due to

SOME INVESTIGATIONS ON THE CORROSION OF IRON
I.
Introduction
Metals undergo natural destruction that allows a spontaneous deteriorating reaction where they
return to their original state from where they are obtained upon contact with the surrounding,
particularly when reacted to oxygen. Such phenomenon is known as corrosion (Zumdahl, 1998).
This leads the surface of the materials to rust in due time. Usually, this kind of process is
electrochemical but is sometimes accompanied by mechanical and physical stress that causes the
metal to corrode (Heitz et al, 1992).

Discussion
Metals have become one of the most in demand raw materials man has ever used. Cars, buildings,
bridges, and such a like were built through this kind of resources which contributes to the progress
and development of a community.
However, a great consequence on the economic status is incorporated in this phenomenon. Since
metals undergo corrosion that may result to its inefficiency and inadequateness, billions of dollars
are spent just to prevent its occurrence.
It was observed that there are different factors that contribute to the deterioration of metal,
specifically on iron which is widely used in different industrial establishments. These are the acidity
and basicity of solution where the metal will be immersed or be in contact with, mechanical

Mark Clayton s A Whole Lot Of Cheating
Cheating for many is simply a way of life. For others it is a sin in which they would never think

as the only way of passing a class. Where other students see as it as a last resort. No matter what
side students are on, cheatingis wrong, but even though it is wrong and extremely risky millions
of students around the nation do it on a daily basis just to get by. Cheating is exactly what Mark
Clayton talks about in the article tittle, A Whole Lot of Cheatin Going On. The word that is most
often associated with cheating is plagiarism. A word that makes students like myself cringe at the
thought. The reason being if caught in this act of despair it can simply ruin your life, your

when talking about cheating, but what also needs to be taken into accounts is simply the students
mindset and their motivation. Lets face it in todays world with the internet and endless amount of
resources there is simply no reason to cheat on a paper or an exam. An argument can be made that
the growth of resources has only made it easier to cheat for many students. For many college
students the one thing that keeps them from cheating and motivated is the thought of hoisting that

Internal Stress In Law Enforcement
There are many stress categories that law enforcement will face when it comes to performing their
occupational duties. The first stress category is internal or individual stress. Stress can happen at
any time especially on the internal side as there is always a chance of an officer worrying about the
competency to handle an assignment. If the assignment they are working on is causing individual

trying to finish an assignment. Officers start to feel the internal stressthat everyone is counting on
them to get the assignment they are working on in perfect working order. Since crime never

lead to more time being spent on duty rather than off duty. The dearth of time for personal
development can translate into divorce, suicide, alcoholism, or burnout . The stress of the job and
having a family takes its toll but those who can cope with the internal stress of their job and family
are the one that can have both at the same time. Although there are some factors of internal stress
that can lead officers to eventually end their career with no family, no friends other than a few cops
and no outside interests Officers that have internal stress can have feelings that their trapped in

The Importance Of Objects In My Life
Most individuals have an object that holds a high value to them and affects their life in one way
or another. Behind each object, is a story to be told. Like most people, I have an object in my life
that I cherish dearly and will always appreciate because of the positive effect it has on my life.
The object is soft to the touch, is a variety of colors, and can be made into a tangible object. The
object is extremely important in my life because it has taught me a life lesson that I will always

camp to be laid out in a way that best fit the soldiers. His instructions were to build a log hut 14
by 16 ft for every 12 men. He also ordered his men to build a bridge over the Schuylkill River to
resupply his army more efficiently. Washington wanted the best for his troops, and in order have
that he needed help from sources outside of Valley Forge. As early as September, 1777,
Washington contacted Alexander Hamilton to ask for supplies such as clothes and blankets,
which the soldiers were in need of. He desperately wrote a letter to congress to inform them of
the harsh conditions, and asking them for any supplies that they would give to his troops. He
wrote, From my soul... I pity these miseries, which it is neither in my power to relieve or prevent
(Bruns, 63 64). Washington also sent men on large expeditions to get food for his soldiers. These
men were successful and most likely saved the army. With all of these efforts combined, his troops

Essay about Hamlet s Hesistation to Kill Claudius
How far do you agree that Hamlet s hesitation to kill Claudius in Act Three is underpinned by
religious reasons? Of all the different motives Shakespeare presents for Hamlet s lack of action,
which seems to be the most important?
Critics have attempted to explain Hamlet s delay in avenging his father for centuries and the most
relevant scene to illustrate Hamlet s hesitation is in Act Three when Hamlet has the opportunity to
kill Claudius but doesn t. Hamlet says at the time that he does
this same villain send
To heaven.
It could be said that Hamlet is deliberately delaying his revenge for fear of actually committing it.
However, religion was a focal part of people s lives at the time the play was set and at the time it
was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamlet discusses Claudius reaction to the play with Horatio and says:
I ll take the ghost s word for a thousand pound.
In other words, he believes the ghost s accusation. This leaves Hamlet as being a coward or as a
fervent revenger without opportunity.
Another interesting thing that happens at this part of the play is that the Player King
unintentionally refers to Hamlet s inaction:
What to ourselves in passion we propose,
The passion ending, doth the purpose lose.
The Player seems to be saying that Hamlet only made his pledge to avenge his father on the spur of
the moment when he was blinded by passion and that now that immediacy of the ghost s accusation
has faded he lacks conviction.
Shakespeare sprinkles subtle lines alluding to Hamlet s apparent cowardice and failure as a
classical revenger. In addition to this, Shakespeare may intentionally delay Hamlet s revenge and
remove emphasis from his passion to break the trend of morally blind, obsessive, psychopathic
avengers as traditionally depicted in plays such as The Spanish Tragedy .
It is ironic that Hamlet doesn t kill the King whilst he is praying because before Hamlet enters
Claudius reveals in his soliloquy how useless he feels that his prayer of repentance is:
but O, what form of prayer
Can serve my turn? Forgive

Literary Foils In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
In the story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a wondrous tale of two men George a small,
slender man, and Lennie a big, tall man with a mental disability, who travel together and face
difficulties, happy times and fun with friends. This story by John Steinbeck has wowed many
people around the world and right here. after you read this story you ll for sure want all your
friends and families to know too.
John steinbeck uses these literary devices to create the story, and develop the theme of friendship
throughout the story
in Of Mice and Men by john steinbeck, literary foils are used to show the difference and
similarities between George and Lennie.
Literary foils are important they show the best and worst differences in people. But in this story
it gets a little hectic on how different George and lennie are. And mostly about how forgetful
lennie is. So you forgot that awready..(george said)....I forgot lennie said softly. i tried not to
forget. (steinbeck 4) This supports the literary foils because of how different George and Lennie
are and it also explains how different they are.this is important because it shows the struggles
each of them go through but them being able to have each other helps them get through those
situations. Also lennie gets attached to things so he loves his new pup that george got him, but
alittle to much. George put down his cards very deliberately. Lennie, he said sharply (steinbeck
42) This shows that even though george is a nice guy he can be defensive. when he was just
outside of the bunkhouse and saw lennie bring a puppy in he would ve beaten lennie up for it so
+the pup wouldn t die. This also relates to Lennie s death and how George had to kill him before
he actually got hurt, you hadda, George. i swear you hadda. (steinbeck 107) In the end this
shows that if george would have died lennie would have killed multiple people to get revenge vs.
george just killing the killer and slightly lying to save himself. All these make up a good part of
the book but most importantly irony takes a long stride to be the best and how it is used to form
the story of the book.
in Of Mice and Men by john steinbeck he uses irony to show how lennie says he isn t going to do

Theater Research Paper
There are many different job positions in a theater production aside from the actors. Theater is one
big team effort to create something magical. Some of these positions are directors, producers,
assistant directors, stage managers and assistant stage managers. Many of these titles can either be
combined into one person or multiple people. For example, there are set designers, costumes
designers, lighting designers, sound designers, and props and furnishing designers. Some theater
productions contain all of these jobs with separate and multiple people to one job. Other theater

The Intentional Causes And Unintentional Effects Of Language
The Intentional Causes and Unintentional Effects of Language
Language is an overlooked topic that not many people address, seeing that it has affected most of us
in oblivious ways. Our languages have created standards, barriers, principles, concepts and
misconceptions that have molded us to become societies living under differences that have become
naturally accepted. The many ways that language has affected us have come from our own personal
backgrounds as well as deriving from socially accepted standards that have been set over time. The
different ways language has structured us become evident in regards to religion, culture, ethnicity,
consciousness and gender. In this, problems have arised that are mostly ignored and disregarded
even with solutions presented.
Regarding to our consciousness, language has structured it based upon what we learned from our
surroundings and what has become known as the norm . The way we articulate our thoughts
comes from what we already know from our language. Language has passed on ideas that we
think we articulate ourselves. The way we formulate sentences or think about other things have all
been an impact by language. So technically, our thoughts are not our own since they originate
from what language has done. The current way I am choosing to write this very essay is a result
from what I have learned from my language. I know what is acceptable and unacceptable in
writing this. This can be said to be a result of knowing grammar rules and

Meaning Of Blessed Be Meaning
I have seen the expression Blessed Be quite often as a way of greeting and/or a farewell,
indicating that the person saying/writing it wishes good fortune upon the person receiving it. I
have seen this so many times that I thought that was exactly what it meant and even more, it was
the correct way of greeting or saying goodbye to other people But through out my research I have
learnt and understood that Blessed Be has a deeper meaning and it is one that we should be mindful
when using it.
The true purpose of Blessed Be is a sacred one. It has been used in countless religions to grant the
blessings of the deity onto a person, but not in a general or light hearted way. When we use the
term Blessed Be it is meant to be in a very sacred way, we are asking the ... Show more content on

The school I currently attend; Mckeel Academy of Technology, is in consideration to change our

it good or bad . I have asked around a lot, gathering other students opinion on what are school

the decision that changed the bell schedule is a bad idea for this school and the students that attend

Reaction Paper About Tattoos In Society
On December 29, 2016, I got my first tattoo. Located on my upper thigh, it was a private
message to myself to keep fighting no matter how hard life is. Just this week, on December 4,
2017, I got a second tattoo. This one, more publicly located on my collar bone, was simply a
cluster of snowflakes. Immediately, I was bombarded with the question, Why snowflakes? I couldn
t give a meaningful answer as I could with my first tattoo, so I would simply reply with, I like snow.
This response was not well received, as people could not understand why I would put something
that permanent on my body just because I like it. Social interactions like these are all too common
for tattooed people, and especially so for women. It is these interactions, and those between family
members, employers, and more, that Beverly Yuen Thompson explores in her book. She first dives
into the history of tattoos, explaining how they came to be and why they are, to this day,
stigmatized. She questions how heavily tattooed women interact with others on a daily basis, be it
strangers, friends, or family. Her main point is that tattoos should not be considered any differently
than any other body modifications, such as plastic surgery, and that the public should learn the
proper etiquette to promote harmony between tattooed persons and non tattooed persons. For her
book, Thompson conducted a study consisting of interviewing several heavily tattooed women. She
defines someone as heavily tattooed when

Difference Between Social Media And Media

the USA Presidency As we all know that social media has been one of the best source for proper
means of communication, people have been using it to communicate with each other, and not
only that but they are posting various things on social media as well. 1 Twitter and Facebook are
one of the most popular social media which are used by most of the people. It has been widely
popular that even celebrities and politician uses them on a regular basis. The only difference
between normal people using a social media and celebrities or politician using a social media is
that the politician or celebrities have to be more careful while posting their thoughts. They are
the famous people in the society and are followed by most people. Their posts are been looked
upon by thousands of people and are criticized as well. If one s post something that is very
unacceptable or offending than his/her reputation is going to fall way beyond the line. As they
are represented as the successful person in the society, they have to be very careful on taking
every steps in their life because people will be watching them every time trying to make a
headline. Same goes to the elected leaders because we have seen them being active on social media
where they are talking about different topics and posting about it.
I think that the social media is a great platform for the politicians to communicate with the citizens

Language Death Essay
Main Issues: The way in which our world functions today is a result of colonialization. Language
death and linguistic endangerment is woven with colonialization and the history of oppression
toward indigenous communities. We cannot speak of language death without first acknowledging
the speakers and the systematic oppression that indigenous communities continue struggling to
resist. In present time languageshifts due to economic incentiveof hegemony and the mediating role
of language ideologies are two of the most important causes of language death. Language shift and
language ideologies that ultimately cause language death are current consequences of
colonialization. The death of a language has both of linguistic and cultural consequences to the
particular community affected and to the world s diversity as a whole. Languages serve as carries
of cultural knowledge, as identity and verbal art, hence when a language is lost cultural resources,
identity and verbal art are lost. One of the most important causes of language death is language
shifts due to economic incentives of hegemony. A language shift is when people adopt the language
of the hegemonic society replacing their mother tongue in both their personal and professional lives
(Mithum 1998:182). The shift of language is motivated by the hope for economic prosper as
hegemonic languages like English and French dominate the economic market place. This language
shift is also understood through the terms of

Pros And Cons Of Genetic Engineering
Since the dawn of time, humans have pondered the very roots of their existence. Through
religion, many filled the void of their origin with a creation story, but with relatively recent
discoveries, the origin of humans has been revealed. Charles Darwin s ideas on natural selection
and evolution led the way for this new facet of thought. His findings were widely rejected at first
but paved the way for more progress. Shortly after, Gregor Mendel was able to prove inheritance
with pea plants. A plethora of other discoveries throughout the twentieth century allowed for a
process called genetic engineering. But, what is genetic engineering? By manipulating the
recombination of DNA, scientists are able to change an organism. They have found that they can
use viruses to inject therapeutic genes into humans. Through this process, people are now able to
control specific genes in an organism for more desirable traits. This has been used in the industry of
food, medicine, and in various other sciences. (Britannica, Genetic Engineering )
In the farming and food industries, the utilization of genetic engineering is very common. It began
in the 1990s with cotton plants. Scientists discovered that its DNA could be manipulated to create
beneficial changes. These changes included resistance to antibiotics, resistance to herbicide and
introduction of more nutrients and vitamins ( History of Genetically Modified Foods, 2004). Also,
scientists are able to use genetic

  • 2. Eating Disorders and Negative Body Images Millions of teens and adults are faced with eating disorders and negative body images everywhere they go. Celebrities promote unrealistic standards and display what the acceptable body is. Because of our stick thin role models we have in the media today much of our society holds their own body image to the unobtainable standards of celebrities. People are bombarded with images of what s sexy instead of what s healthy (Helmich). In a world based around celebrities and media, shouldn t they be promoting a healthy body image instead of the negative ones we are being smothered with? Cindy Crawford in a magazine interview states, do you look at me and want to puke? Evidently, they re not hearing or paying attention to a deafening Yes from the seven million American girls and women who, according to Dr. Vivian Meehan, suffer from eating disorders (Zimmerman). Even if you don t have an eating disorder, you are still affected by the media and supermodels. Saying to yourself If I had those shoes I d look as stunning as her , models are used to sell products but instead sell their bodies and the products are just vamping that up. Models leave millions of young impressionable people, striving for an unachievable perfection. Dr. Morris Fishbeinsays, Of all of the fads which have afflicted mankind, none seems more difficult to explain than the desire of American women striving for the barber pole figure. (Zimmerman). • 3. The Amendment Of The Rights Of Those Accused Of A Crime The three amendments that are used to protect the rights of those accused of a crime include, the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment. The Fourth Amendment in the Constitution, contains protection against unreasonable searches and seizures and protects people s homes, property, and effects (as cited in Peak, 2015, p. 180). The Fifth Amendment in the Constitution, among other protections, guards against self incrimination and double jeopardy (as cited in Peak, 2015, p. 180). The Sixth Amendment in the Bill of Rights, guarantees the right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury, the right to effective counsel at trial and other protections (as cited in Peak, 2015, p. 180). These three Amendments, in summary mean that any person who is accused of a crime is innocent until proven guilty, and their rights are just as important as anyone else. They have the natural born right to have their rights as citizens protected under the law, and ensure fair treatment from law enforcement officers. In 1993, the Supreme Court ruled a decision on the court case, Minnesota v. Dickerson. This court case followed the court ruling in 1968, which was the original stop and frisk case, Terry v. Ohio. In Terry v. Ohio, The Supreme Court of the United Statesheld that it is a reasonable search when an officer performs a quick seizure and a limited search for weapons on a person that the officer reasonably believes could be armed. A typical beat officer would be unduly burdened by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Paul Gauguin And Henri Matisse Primitivism was a cultural attitude that arose in Europe during the late 19th and 20th century in opposition to the increasingly decadent and materialistic European culture. Rather than an artistic movement, primitivism is a European conception of foreign civilizations and lands as simple , less developed, and naive. This is an important distinction to make, because primitivismwas defined in the eyes of the Europeans who saw foreign civilizations as unsophisticated, indicating that the concept of primitivism is heavily biased in the view of the Europeans. Paul Gauguinand Henri Matisse were two artists that were highly influenced by the concept of primitivism, and some similarity can be depicted in their works such as the use of female nudes, vivid colors, and artistic techniques. However, their definition and methods of achieving primitivism differ heavily, due to the fact that the vagueness of primitivism allows it to be a self defined concept. These similarities and differences can be seen through the two works of art The Spirit of the Dead Watching by Paul Gauguin, and The Blue Nude by Henri Matisse, and the way they depict women in each of the pieces. The first important similarity between the two pieces is the obvious use of the reclining female nude. The female figure was a popular subject matter for the primitivists of this time, because society viewed women to be more natural than men, who were more civilized. Society assumed that women s ... • 5. Research Paper On Ad Hominem Fallacy Ad Hominem Ad Hominem comes from latin and means against the man , is a common fallacy that it is used to attack the person rather than their argument. It is a lazy and easy way to put down your opponent with poor reasoning and bad logic. It plays with people s emotion. The attack can be true, but has no relevance to the claims of the argument and can bias the audience. Ad Hominem fallacies are often used in politics, media and court. One famous Ad Hominem fallacy was when President Clinton s infidelity and lies were used to attack decisions he made as President. Although having been unfaithful and lying about it, it did not necessarily impact on his work as President. In this case his private life had no bearing on his professional activities. Ad Hominem abusive fallacy was used to point out character flaws or actions (it can even involve insults) in order to discredit his status and work. Also perpetrators appeal to Ad Hominem abusive fallacy to exonerate themselves of their crimes. For instance, during a recent interview, one of the six perpetrators from the 2012 Delhi gang rape case, blamed his victim s demeanour being immoral and provocative. Therefore, he claimed that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A fallacy is committed when the person is not qualified or is not recognised to be a legitimate authority on the specific subject of the argument. For instance, in commercial advertisements, celebrities who promote products for their qualities and effectiveness are not qualified in the field of the specific product (eg. beauty products, dietary medication, cars). The facts could be true, but as the claim is supported on the basis that an unqualified authority or a non expert body said so, it makes the argument difficult to believe. However the Appeal to Authority fallacy is quite common as people have a tendency to believe in authority and experts, which can make a claim ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of British Imperialism In India When British imperialism was first introduced to India there appeared to be on the surface, advantages to both sides (Britain and India) however, as time went on the inherent problems that were already deeply embedded in India were highlighted which resulted in India s move for independence. After analysing this subject, it is clear to see there were initial advantages, many of these advantages quickly turned into disadvantages and it was these disadvantages that led India and its leaders to move for independence. (2008) supports Nanda (2016) telling that Gandhi quickly amassed thousands of followers and faced down the British colonialists with stirring speeches and non violent protests. In 1921 Gandhi was elected as the president of the Indian National Congress (MapsofIndia, article 2013). The Indian National Congress is one if two major political parties in India. It was founded in 1885 and became a pivotal part of the independence movement. The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica name article (2016) substantiate that it was created as an outlet for Indians to voice their concerns and express their views. There were no major wars in Europe, though across the ocean the American War of Independence raged from 1775 1783. Yet there was much discontent in Europe. People were getting fed up with a two class social structure, in which a tiny group of rich people at the top of the social scale held power over a vast number of poor people at the bottom, people with virtually no rights and no way to climb out of their poverty. But power was slowly changing hands from the aristocracy to the growing middle class. This middle class came about partly through the Industrial Revolution, which brought a sudden, massive increase in the number of jobs available in mines, factories, and on the railroads. It was an age of invention: from Watt s steam engine (1775) to the hot air balloon (1783) and carbonated soda (1785)! A philosophical movement known as the Enlightenment took hold during this period. People began to believe in the power of human reason to solve social problems, to correct unjust behaviour, and to make their lives better. The rights of the individual, freedom of thought, relaxation of censorship, and the gradual abolition of child labour were just some of the changes that resulted from the ... • 10. Gender Is Not As Cut And Dry As You Might Think Sir! Sir! Do you realize this is the ladies room? The concept of gender is not as cut and dry as you might think. The term gender is often used incorrectly as a synonym for our biological sex. Gender is more of a predetermined set of ideas and characteristics used in identifying socially acceptable behaviors and appearances for the sexes. It is not determined by the biological sex of the person. From an early age we begin to develop ideas of what it means to be male or female by observing others. Genderfalls on a spectrum from masculine to feminine with many combinations in between. Gender expression and gender identity are also not the same thing. Gender expression is one area where women have a social advantage over men. It is far more socially acceptable for a woman to dress masculine than for a man to dress feminine; although neither are without predigests. Using a public restrooms seems like a simple task to the majority of us. This is not the case for people who fall outside the gender norm. Seldom does one have a choice beyond boy s room or girl s room. This can be a very stressful environment if your outward appearance doesn t match your biological sex. Spotlighting those who are not perceived by society as gender normal could lead to depression, anxiety and self loathing. Something as simple as going to the restroom in the mall could lead to a violent encounter. This would be greatly reduced of people would just be more observant. This all because society developed rules everyone must follow in order to be perceived as normal. Today s young people tend to be more aware of the gender spectrum. Terms like gender identity and gender expression are better understood. Words like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Topic Blended families are created from a diverse sets of needs as a result of family life changes, such as divorce or death, and these changes result in situations where both adults and children find themselves living with step family members stemming from both sides of the no longer intact family structure. Deal (2014), a leading author and marriage therapist, likens the blended family to a 3 D puzzle that a person is trying to complete without the benefit of instructions or even a picture as a point of reference. Each family is different in roles and their structure; however, most members desire healthy outcomes and basic principles for creating well functioning family units. Interviewees Married in the 2007, Bill and Dawn (which are not their real names, as they require anonymity to protect their children), currently have four children. Bill brought two children (a 9 year old son and an 8 year old daughter) into the marriage, and Bill and Dawn now have two biological children (a 7 year old daughter and a 4 year old daughter). The insight that they bring to the topic of blended families comes from the past nine years of striving to create a healthy family unit. . History According to Lisa Zeleznikow and John Zeleznikow (2015), over 40% of adults in the United States have at least one step relative living with them. The French Painting shows that there was more of a hierarchy, at the time France relied on rich nobles. The university does meet many of the requirements to call itself these things it s staff is not very diverse. In just the year 2015 Southwestern granted tenure to the first black male in its history Dr. Reggie Byron. Dr. Bryon became one of just five males of color tenured at Southwestern out of 91 tenured faculty. This represents that the faculty at Southwestern Universitystrongly under represents racial minorities in its tenured staff. This lack of diversity exemplifies a structure of privilege at Southwestern that disproportionately furthers the interests of white students and professors and excludes racial minorities from the same experiences. First, the possible causes for this lack of diversity must be shown as to expose this structure of privilege here at Southwestern. One factor that plays a major role in the hiring of racial minorities especially at positions thought of as very professional, which professors fall under is how society defines professionalism. The way we visual the word professional in American society is very stigmatized and obviously benefits the dominant group. Most of the time we picture a white male body in a suit with short, straight hair and is well groomed. None of these indicators point to a minoritybody as being professional. They get their food, as well as performing gas exchange, through the process of filter feeding (Linville). This entails taking water inside of their shells and filtering it through their gills to trap food particles and exchange gas (Linville). When doing this, they bring in the food particles they need to survive and have the potential to bring in other materials such as toxic substances or pollutants (Linville). This also allows for the clams to clean the water, improving water quality (Stanford). When the clams bring in these substances, scientists are able to then analyze the tissue of the gills and find out which substances they brought in. This ability... There is bungee like cords that continue to tighten and adjust in order to mimic normal flexor and extensor patterns of major musclegroups in an attempt to correct abnormal alignment (McMahon, Pruitt Vargus Adams, 2009). The research question proposed is: Does income inequality have an impact on economic growth? . This chapter highlights the key concepts and notions which underlie the subject matter of the study in order to provide an ideal frame for understanding the relationship between income inequality and economic growth and answering the research question. Richard III is seen to be one of England s most disputed kings; a monarch who brings with him a legend of negative connotations. There are seen to be many arguments as to whether or not the mischievous king was subject to be condemned by his black legend or fits the description issued by keen Richard III adversaries. These sceptics see Richard depicted under the black legend which in turn imply that he was the murderer of his own nephews in the tower, murderer of his wife, Anne and wrongfully deposed Edward VI among many more brutal monarchical actions. Only occasional planting of SCN resistant without any rotation allow to reproduce aggressively in resistant line because of selection pressure allowing changing the race to overcome resistance (Young, 1998, Young Hartwig, 1988, Young, 1984) Annual ryegrass, Lolium multiflorum residue is found to be effective to reduce the H. glycines population by increasing the hatching of eggs of nematode in the absence of host and depletion of lipid reserved in juvenile and decreases the parasitism of the pathogen. Many opposed this event by turning to Monasticism, these people wanted to devote their lives to God, but despite of all of this Weisser notes that Oneness still exist. Chapter 6 This chapter explains the events taking place in the eighth through fifthteenth centuries (middle Ages). It is when secular leaders are struggling against the papacy for power. During this time the crusades took place. The main problem in the middle Ages was between the pope and the king, this desire for power caused the churches from the East and West to separate. This made the Cathari and Waldenses to question the authority of the pope and placed Biblical authority over men. Chapter 7 In chapter seven Weisser takes a deep look into the Reformation, and how the printing of pamphlets in mass number can cause a greater influence than before. The Catholic Church had become very corrupt and caused men like Martin Luther and John Calvin to push against the church abuse. These men had different views, but for the most part they agreed. We also see the Oneness of God doctrine in the sixth and seventeenth centuries. This was inspired by Michael Servetus and once again the challenge of this pagan doctrine (Trinitarians) would last for two centuries. Chapter 8 In this chapter Weisser explains how the Enlightenment period disagreed with the Reformation, this caused separation within the Christian church. This period also brought the ... In the recent years nanoscale sensors have become more and more popular. When making a nanostructure based sensor the most important aspects that have to be taken into account are: sensitivity, selectivity and stability. The way gas sensors function is determined by the convection of electrical conductivity due to surface reactions such as oxidation or reduction caused by the exposure to different types of gases. Recently a great quantity of effort has been put into resolving important issues like novel sensing material resources, data analytical method (Fast Fourier and wave transform, pattern recognition), measurement techniques (static and dynamic), fabrication methods and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tin oxide gas sensors have been manufactured in the form of thin foils in which nanosized grains are screen printed onto prefabricated electrons, followed by torching at high temperatures. These sensors can easily detect substances like hydrogen, vapour particles emitted by alcohol, oxygen, and dangerous gases like carbon monoxide [2 3]. This technology is desirable because it has a large number of advantages: small dimensions, low production costs, low power consumption, on line operation and high compatibility with microelectric processing. Moreover the necessity for gas sensors is very important due to the fact that many kinds of gases are emitted from various sources into the places where we work, where we live or in the outdoors. Many of these gases are dangerous to human beings and also to the environment [4]. Furthermore most gases have a very low concentration therefore sensing devices must be able to detect the presence of this hazardous gases very effectively and monitor them so that no life threatening problems develop. Therefore this technology has a wide range of appliation, from industrial applications to household safety. Nanowire sensor manufacture. One dimensional (1 D) nanowires have found an application in the field of gas sensors due to their high surface to volume ratio [3]. Introduction Metals undergo natural destruction that allows a spontaneous deteriorating reaction where they return to their original state from where they are obtained upon contact with the surrounding, particularly when reacted to oxygen. Such phenomenon is known as corrosion (Zumdahl, 1998). This leads the surface of the materials to rust in due time. Usually, this kind of process is electrochemical but is sometimes accompanied by mechanical and physical stress that causes the metal to corrode (Heitz et al, 1992). Of all the different motives Shakespeare presents for Hamlet s lack of action, which seems to be the most important? Critics have attempted to explain Hamlet s delay in avenging his father for centuries and the most relevant scene to illustrate Hamlet s hesitation is in Act Three when Hamlet has the opportunity to kill Claudius but doesn t. Hamlet discusses Claudius reaction to the play with Horatio and says: I ll take the ghost s word for a thousand pound. In other words, he believes the ghost s accusation. This leaves Hamlet as being a coward or as a fervent revenger without opportunity. Another interesting thing that happens at this part of the play is that the Player King unintentionally refers to Hamlet s inaction: What to ourselves in passion we propose, The passion ending, doth the purpose lose. The Player seems to be saying that Hamlet only made his pledge to avenge his father on the spur of the moment when he was blinded by passion and that now that immediacy of the ghost s accusation has faded he lacks conviction. Shakespeare sprinkles subtle lines alluding to Hamlet s apparent cowardice and failure as a classical revenger. In addition to this, Shakespeare may intentionally delay Hamlet s revenge and remove emphasis from his passion to break the trend of morally blind, obsessive, psychopathic avengers as traditionally depicted in plays such as The Spanish Tragedy . It is ironic that Hamlet doesn t kill the King whilst he is praying because before Hamlet enters Claudius reveals in his soliloquy how useless he feels that his prayer of repentance is: but O, what form of prayer Can serve my turn? This story by John Steinbeck has wowed many people around the world and right here. after you read this story you ll for sure want all your friends and families to know too. John steinbeck uses these literary devices to create the story, and develop the theme of friendship throughout the story in Of Mice and Men by john steinbeck, literary foils are used to show the difference and similarities between George and Lennie. Literary foils are important they show the best and worst differences in people. But in this story it gets a little hectic on how different George and lennie are. And mostly about how forgetful lennie is. So you forgot that awready..(george said)....I forgot lennie said softly. i tried not to forget. (steinbeck 4) This supports the literary foils because of how different George and Lennie are and it also explains how different they are.this is important because it shows the struggles each of them go through but them being able to have each other helps them get through those situations. Also lennie gets attached to things so he loves his new pup that george got him, but alittle to much. George put down his cards very deliberately. Lennie, he said sharply (steinbeck 42) This shows that even though george is a nice guy he can be defensive. when he was just outside of the bunkhouse and saw lennie bring a puppy in he would ve beaten lennie up for it so +the pup wouldn t die. This also relates to Lennie s death and how George had to kill him before he actually got hurt, you hadda, George. i swear you hadda. (steinbeck 107) In the end this shows that if george would have died lennie would have killed multiple people to get revenge vs. george just killing the killer and slightly lying to save himself. All these make up a good part of the book but most importantly irony takes a long stride to be the best and how it is used to form the story of the book. in Of Mice and Men by john steinbeck he uses irony to show how lennie says he isn t going to do ... The Intentional Causes And Unintentional Effects Of Language The Intentional Causes and Unintentional Effects of Language Language is an overlooked topic that not many people address, seeing that it has affected most of us in oblivious ways. Our languages have created standards, barriers, principles, concepts and misconceptions that have molded us to become societies living under differences that have become naturally accepted. The many ways that language has affected us have come from our own personal backgrounds as well as deriving from socially accepted standards that have been set over time. The different ways language has structured us become evident in regards to religion, culture, ethnicity, consciousness and gender. In this, problems have arised that are mostly ignored and disregarded even with solutions presented. Regarding to our consciousness, language has structured it based upon what we learned from our surroundings and what has become known as the norm . The way we articulate our thoughts comes from what we already know from our language. Language has passed on ideas that we think we articulate ourselves. The way we formulate sentences or think about other things have all been an impact by language. So technically, our thoughts are not our own since they originate from what language has done.
