I collected equipment from my college, including a camera, tripod, and audio recorder, to film my short film at my college and house over one day. I set up the camera and ensured the settings were correct before beginning filming. I used a shot list and storyboard to stay organized while directing. Some shots needed to be refilmed for lighting or acting issues. I also rerecorded some audio to improve clarity. In editing, I uploaded the footage, renamed files, and organized them chronologically. I added transitions and effects to smooth the product. I exported the final film and uploaded it to share online. The razor tool in my editing software was especially helpful for separating clips.

2. Filming
I collected the equipment that I needed in order to create my
short film. The process was easy as prior to filming, I had to book
out the equipment using a forum on the York College website. All I
had to do then was collect the equipment that I booked out on the
day of production. I decided to book out a camera, tripod and
audio recorder. I chose the camera as it was a device which I knew
how to use and the tripod is good for holding the camera in place
when doing pans and still shots. I chose an audio recorder as some
shots may not be clear with the audio so I could record a clearer
audio and overlay it. I filmed in two locations, York College and my
house. I decided to film at College because It is the most suitable
place for all the crew to get to. The time that I filmed at college
was good because the lighting was nice and the place in college
which I was filming was easy to move equipment around. My
second location was at my house. This was a good place because it
was a quite place to film and I didn’t have an problems. The room
that I was filming in was a bit hard to maneuver equipment as it
was a bit small but I ended getting all the shots that I needed to be
film.

3. Filming
In order to film my project, I would have to use a camera in which I had to set up. To do this I had to
format the SD card, check each setting to make sure that it was right, checking the focus, angle and shot
and checking the battery percentage. This was easy to do and everything was up to date and ready for
filming. I did have to bring an extra battery as I was filming all day at college and at home.
When looking at the clips I have gathered, I realized I had to collect some audio to put on top of it. I
booked out an audio recorder and use that to collect the audio assets. Setting up this device was pretty
easy as al I had to do was turn it on and plug in some headphones.
In order to keep the actors occupied and gave them a copy of the shot list so they would know what they
were doing during the filming. However I didn’t provide a script so they would know what to say. This may
have been difficult for the actors as they had to make the lines up on the spot.
The film process went well. used the shot list and the story board to guide me on set during filming which
helped as could stay organized when getting everything done. I filmed all the shots that were on the shot
list and shot a few extra assets just in case there was something that I decided I didn’t like.
As a director I did have to make some decisions such as re taking shots due to bad lighting, the actors not
looking how I want them and unnecessary thing in the shots. The actors were understandable when I
asked them to re film It and it was helpful because I got the proper shots I needed
When wrapping up the filming, I had to re book an audio recorder to put over some of the visual assets. I
had to do this as some shots weren't clear as the background audio was too noisy. Luckily the audio
sounds good and will work well with the audio.

4. Editing
When returning to college, I took the SD card from my camera and placed it
into the computer. I then began to upload the footage from the card onto the
desktop, ready for editing. After uploading the footage from the SD card I
organised the footage into a folder on my desktop. This was a good place as it is
easy to access.
In order for easier editing I've renamed the clips in an order which they would
go in during editing. I named then with numbers such as 1 2 3 etc to help
organise the sequence better.
After renaming the clips, I watched them back and chose which shots would be
best for the film. For the shots I liked, I placed them In a chronological sequence
that would make sense and understandable for the viewer.
When reviewing footage I found shots which were not considered putting into
the final product. With these shots I kept them just in case that the shots that I
chose didn’t flow or were suitable for the films.
After sequencing the product I considered on carrying out effects and
transitions in order for the product to look smoother and clean. Some
transitions between shots were too sharp and messy so I added smooth
transitions such as a cross fade which fades a shot into black and then fades into
the next shot. After adding transitions I thought it was appropriate to apply the
sound effects that I collected with the audio recorder and find some royalty free
soundtracks. I applied them to the appropriate places and faded out the
soundtracks with similar transitions to the visual transitions if necessary. As well
as visual transitions I have applied visual effects to the piece to increase the
quality. Effects I have used are split effects where two clips can be in the same
shot, colour grading and changing the speed of the clips. I have also added title
cards and credits to the piece. I created these in photoshop and used skills such
as gradients and shadows to add a cool effect to the title cards which I then put
into the sequence in premier pro.
After completeing the sequence and applying effects to the products, I exported
the film. I made sure that the clips were rendered and the film had the correct
settings to be exported well. I then uploaded to a video sharing website so it will
be easy to copy the clip and paste it into the right pages on my portfolio.

5. Tools
• During the production, I have used many tools
that have helped me in editing. The main tool
which I used for organizing and shortening
clips was the razor tool. The razor tool was
very helpful because I could separate the clip
into two with one click instead of dragging the
clip into the length it needed to be and then
having to input the same clip to get a different
part of it.
