Christian Owens evaluated his final music video project for an indie music genre class. He chose to create a music video for the song "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons with his group. Through the filming and editing stages, he faced challenges like unpredictable weather during outdoor filming and not having all the shots needed from filming. In his editing, he worked to match the script and fill gaps while keeping the singer looking isolated as intended. His final video included title sequences and minor color effects to make it look more professional without distracting from the content. Overall, he was happy with how the video turned out and would film more footage next time to have more options in editing.

Final Edit Evaluation
In this evaluation I will be talking about the overall blog showing the strengths and
weakness in the work. We were assigned with the task of creating a music video in a group
and showing all the key conventions of the chosen genre and how we applied this
convention or challenged them. For our music video, we first made a written draft for a
music video idea; I chose to go with an indie styled music video using a songs from the band
Mumford and Sons. After our first draft we sat down as a group and read each over ideas.
After a good conversation we decided that we were going for Daniel Watts’s idea using the
song “Radioactive by Imagine Dragons”. I thought this was the best idea because it was
simple and fit the conventions of an indie style genre, this also meant we could come to a
decision and be focused on the next task. This was to rewrite the draft script into a final
script. I chose to change the script quite abit because I wanted to make sure the typical
conventions fit the music video we were going to produce. My group decided with me and
my script was chosen as the finished product. I was happy that script was chosen and that I
could apply my idea into the project quite nicely.
Through the filming stages it proved to be a task as our music video was set outside, the
filming stage was set at the end of winter so the weather was still unpredictable. I and the
group were dedicated in getting out and filming what we needed. We were slow to start
because many of us did not have experience with filming, so the first couple of scenes were
a learning curve in camera techniques and getting to know how to film with the group we
had selected. There were bumps in the road as the group started to slack when crucial shots
needed to be filmed. Overall I am happy with the content me and my group produce from
the days of filming and was enough for me to start editing my content. We also followed the
script very well so that my initial idea could be done with a few added tweaks.
In the editing stage I approached the task at hand by looking at the drawn script we had
made for the filming stage and tried to pick the scenes that fit the drawing and filled the
gaps in between with different shots and camera angles. I believe that my first edit went
very well as I have had experience with the “Adobe software” before. During the editing
stage I ran into a few problems such as: not having the specific shot I needed, to overcome
this I either got the camera equipment and went filming or replaced that specific shot with
another that looked better than the original idea. A lot of the content was filmed at a mid,
long and close-up shots because we lacked the equipment and man power to do
complicated camera shots. Also we had to find locations that were secluded because the
song was about being alone and trapped. We did this buy filming in the forests so that there
were not shots of the house or buildings. I had to edit out bits of the music video because
pedestrians would walk behind the camera or a house would appear in the background. I
believe that I have a done a good job in keep the consistency of the music video by making
the singer look and feel isolated.

The final edit only had one effect at the start of the video because I did not know what I
needed to create a better atmosphere for the audience to keep them watching and enticed
in the music video. In my final edit I have only change one or two scenes because they either
repeated or were inadequate took away the professionalism of the music video. I focused
more on after effects as I could add different effects to change the music video and make it
look professional without touching the content. In after effects I added a Title Sequence to
tell the audience what they are watching. Also a professional title sequence tells the
audience that the music video will follow up nicely. I have also added a colour effect to give
a more in-depth feel and glow to the video. This would be a nice touch because the effect
fits into the title nicely “Radioactive”. I did not want to add to many effects as the it would
spoilt the work that was put into the music video and give a cheesy feeling to the song as
the convention of the this style of music video is serious.
Finally I am very happy with the overall way my music video has turned out. If I could
change the way I approached this music video again, I would make sure that I filmed as
much content as possible in the asserted time frame with more camera techniques being
used. The overall blog is organised and easy to find what is needed and is full of information
about my project and how I got to this final stage. In the blog it also explains how I tried to
apply certain methods and conventions to make the overall turnout of my music video.
