GUIDANCE
• This document is for you to track the progress of your
production – filming, editing and post-production.
• This is so you can track what you did and how you did it,
explaining and amendments and changes you made and
tracking the decisions that have shaped the practical
creation of your music video.
• The more detail you include about how you made your music
video, the better. The document is broken down in to two
sections, Filming and Editing, each of these is then made of
specific elements that occur in both.
• For each slide there is a prompt detailing what you should
include, delete the prompt after you have complete the slide.
• Remember, images often show what you’ve done more
effectively than words. Use text to explain an illustration.

3. TECHNICAL
What worked: Even though I was new to properly use the camera, I learned
how to properly use it and film good shots. The camera was in focus most of
the time and was able to zoom in without many flaws.
What didn’t work: When I first started filming, I wasn’t able to get all the shots in
focus, so I had to redo all the shots I already filmed. The batteries lasted a
while but when they ran low, I was stuck with low running batteries.

4. LOGISTICAL
What worked: When I filmed in certain areas, they made good battle arenas.
Having a good location made an interesting background for my music video. The
areas had some on set props to use and they had plenty enough space to film.
What didn’t work: I filmed in public places which had a lot of people passing, this
halted the filming. Some areas would have the wrong type of weather to film,
e.g. when we were filming underneath a parking lot when it was supposed to be
sunny.

5. What worked: I had no shortage
of actors after I sweet end the
deal with nerf guns to be in my
movie. They were loyal and
cooperative which made the
filming go much faster than I
thought.
What didn’t work: The actors
didn’t show up in the same
clothes which messed with the
continuity, not to mention most
actors didn’t show up on the
days I needed them so I had to
replace them with leftovers from
the class. The actors were also
silly which slowed down the
production, some people I didn’t
need showed up because they
had nothing to do.

6. What worked: Having weeks to
plan, I was able to make a story
board that matched the runtime
of the song I used. The actors
knew what they had to do thanks
to my planning. I also came
prepared with props so scenes
wouldn’t be delayed because
most scenes depended on them.
What didn’t work: Because I
made my storyboard out of
paper, it kept on blowing away.
Things strayed from the plan

7. 1. I was able to make the footage
match the runtime of the song. The
song lasted three minutes and sixteen
seconds, I studied the length of each
cut and adapted it to my own, I wanted
the footage to go with the song so it
wouldn’t be disorganized and out of
place.
2. When filming, there were many
mistakes, but thanks to editing I was
able to make the action scenes perfect
through editing. Most of the action
scenes were edited to make the
sequences have a good rhythm. This
was all to make it match the song.
3. I learned how to use premiere in a
short amount of time. Other editing
formats I’ve used are slow, but Adobe
Premiere made my editing faster. I was
able to finish my video ahead of time.

8. WHAT PROBLEMS DID YOU HAVE

1. It took me a while to get used to editing on Adobe which slowed the
process of the film being finished. I was afraid to that I wouldn’t finish
in time and then I would fall behind.
2. When I added new footage, my editing fell out of it’s order, this
slowed the work down. Music would be longer or less long than the
footage and footage would get jumbled and take forever to untangle.
3. And the biggest problem in the length of my footage. I made the
shots that I filmed go on for a long time which left the audience bored, I
mean who wants to see a person just stand around for five minutes.

What are the main things you’ve learned from this project?

1. I’ve learned how to properly use Adobe, before I fell behind, not
knowing how to use it, but I mastered it in time.
2. I learned to plan ahead, I had a bad history of leaving my actors
in the dark about what they had to do, but writing a story board
made me far more organised.
3. I learned how to use a tripod, with the tripod I was able to have
clear camera shots instead of shaky cam all the time.
4. In a way, I learned how to use special effects because I edited
gun shots onto the footage, I still need to learn more about it though.
5. The most valuable thing I learned was to keep your footage short,
I learned how to cut it down, but now I know to never make strung
out cuts again from my feedback.
