3. The strengths of my research for this project were that the mood board I had made gave me an idea on how to start
structuring my product as the colours and themes they used were very bright and sort of childish which made it easier to
develop the kind of theme that I wanted to be in the product. I wanted the theme to be childish and bright which seemed
to come out right in my final product as it had that happy comedic effect that I wanted. The other strengths were that the
analysis of the 3 existing products really helped me with making the product work better as I could incorporate some of
the shots and themes used in those adverts into mine. I could also use these adverts to help me structure my advert
and show me what kind of shots I can use in my product so, it was very helpful in that regard. The survey I made was
also helpful as I created a survey of 10 questions that could only be answered seriously and also force the people
taking the survey to further explain there reasoning so, I could use their answers to help me design my work further and
help me with developing a good concept for the short film.
The weaknesses of this research were that I couldn’t make a film bright enough to portray this happy concept that I
wanted to portray as the film looks rather bland and grey as if it were a dark comedy which is not what I wanted the final
product to be after I had designed the final concept for it so, this comes across as mostly useless. Another weakness
was that I didn’t get the results that I wanted to collect from my survey as not a lot of people had answered it and I did
need quite a lot of results so, what ended up happening is that I could not use a lot of results to design my product and
this was rather irritating because I wanted a lot of results to help with my product.
I could have improved my research by firstly perhaps adding a filter to the film in the editing stage to make the film more
bright and nice so, I wouldn’t have had to worry about this being an issue for me. I could also have filmed in a brighter
location so, I wouldn’t have had a problem with this in the first place instead of a dark and dingy hallway that’s only lit by
lights. I could have improved my survey by advertising it more to my class and perhaps by putting it in the chat or be
more pushy.
The effect these changes would have on my product is that the product would have been much more happy and bright;
much more effective when trying to get the feel-good comedy across to the audience. The change the survey would
have made is a much better product because I could have used the new answers to create a product that everyone
would have wanted to see instead of what 7 people wanted.
4. The strengths for my planning were that firstly I used the mind maps to create 3 different ideas in a basic format to see
what I liked and what I didn’t. After that, I decided on the one that I liked the most and went with it which was the
comedy idea about the teleporter, creating another mind map to go over this idea I chose in more detail. The second
type of planning I did was the proposal which I used to finalize planning by deciding on the title of the product and then
going over the story concept, the audiences that I would be targeting and the rationale along with the evaluation and
bibliography to finish it off. This did help a lot as finalizing the concept would make creating the final product much
easier compared to just going in with only the faintest idea of a concept for my product and not knowing what to do
when it came down to it. I also planned out the audio that I am going to be using along with how the whole thing is
structured by utilizing call sheets and the basic 5 major parts of the story which is the story hill. This was further planned
to have the audio clips be put in the right place even before going in to edit.
The weaknesses’ of my product are that the 3 were awfully pointless due to the fact that developing three ideas at once
is relatively time consuming and not that helpful to my product in the long run as I had structured the first mind map
around an idea I already had. The weaknesses for the proposal was that the rationale wasn’t really helpful because
listing all the skills that I have learnt would just seems to break my thought process as it changes the subject too rapidly
to the point where it confuses me which isn’t that necessary really. The other issue I had with the proposal is that the
schedule came around too late and was better off at the start of initial plans where we could have planned properly;
having a full schedule plan halfway through development is a bit unusual and doesn’t belong there at all.
The improvements that could be made to the initial plans is to only have 1 mind map of ideas and another mind map
focusing on the ideas that we have picked out to use for my product. The improvements that I would make to the
proposal is to have the rationale removed or filled in with something else so, it doesn’t break the rhythm the worker has
going when talking about the plans for the work and I would also move the schedule back to the start of initial plans to
where it makes more sense instead of just half way through work where its confusing and makes the worker step back
to process its existence.
The effects this would have on my product is that there kind of wouldn’t be but, it would have made planning this work
far easier compared to just wasting time on things that don’t particularly serve a proper purpose. The mind maps and
the proposal changes will help the worker keep the flow of working and progressing through the planning stage even
easier.
5. I didn’t necessarily manage my time that well this product as a lot of the work was
not done to the schedule that I had set my self and this meant that I had fallen
behind when working and this is not good and the fact that this keeps happening
makes it worse on me because it should be finished on time. Trying to finish the
project to a suitable standard while also keeping up to date is pretty difficult and I
should use the time at home and the free periods we have to get it done because
its driving me mad. I feel that at the end of the project I was able to do the work to
a better standard and got it in on time which was nice finally for once so, I do
believe that I am getting better at managing my time however, I can’t truly
celebrate until the work is done and handed in on time for a whole project which
hopefully, will be this next project coming up. The production and editing is where I
caught up which means that everything before that was where I had issues
I definitely would have improved with extra time as more time would have
reduced the amount of stress that I’d have about deadlines and the amount of
work that would have to be completed by a certain day and time. This will also
help me focus more on my work and not end up rushing it when the deadline
comes up.
If I had more time to produce my work then I could easily have done even more
work on top of that and would have being able to sort out the sound issues that
my project has along with adding a filter to help make my product look more
happy and bright.
6. Both shots use a medium
shot to show the upper body
of the characters
Both Short films use the two-
shot for the two main leads
to show how well the
characters work together.
The Hit Short Film use an
establishing shot to show the
location and mine does not
because there was not time
for it.
Both Short films use Close
ups to highlight facial
features and reactions.
Both Short films use long-
shots to show all of the
characters body in the frame
The hit short film uses an
extreme close up and mine
doesn’t
The hit uses an over the
shoulder shot and mine does
not
The hit short uses a shot to
show all the characters in
one shot, mine does not.
7. Both films
have a
backing
track to
accompany
them.
Both films
use a
soundtrack
that fits the
mood
relatively
well
The hit has
voice over’s
in it but,
mine does
not.
My soundtrack is
quite calm and
relaxed whereas
theres is more
intense and restless
My films audio was removed and had
a new one put over it where as the
other film uses audio that exists with
the film recording already
Both films
use mainly
diegetic
sound with
the
exception
being the
soundtrack
Both films
added
some form
of audio in
during post-
production
Both films
use sounds
footsteps
knocks and
grunts.
The
8. My product added in
sound effects during
the editing stage
whereas only some
were added in later
for the hit
Both films had a
soundtrack added in
The hit is probably
using a filter to
make the film look
better whereas mine
is not
Both films use have
something that
could have only
being edited in via
post-production.
Mine is the teleport
and the hits is the
gun sound and
flash.
Both films use the
aforementioned
teleporter and gun
as its main focus
despite the films
being comedies.
Its possible that the
voice acting was
added in later for the
hit but mine does
not have voice
acting.
Both films cut into
each other really
well and have good
continuity. Despite
the disappearance
of Tahmids hat
9. The story was pretty
good but it having to
be cut down was
pretty sad. I would
change this by
cutting down the
shot time and
cutting down the plot
as well
The lack of comedy
makes the film fall a
bit short of the mark
and I would improve
this by trying to
make it funny all the
way through rather
then just at certain
points
The severe lack of
character can be an
issue as both of
them are pretty
bland. I would
improve this by
making the
characters stand out
more by changing
the way they walk
and look at each
other
The sound effects
were not that good
in this short film as
they could not be
heard too well. I
would improve this
by changing the
volume of the sound
effects so, they can
be heard better
The part where they
fight is the best in
my opinion because
I feel that it works
better and makes
the film more
comedic
The lack of a title is
quite sad but, I
didn’t have time for
it anyway in the film.
The beginning or
end would have
been a good place
for it
10. I feel that I
appealed to the
gender audience
well as males
should enjoy it. Its
funny to some
degree an a bit
wacky as well.
Comes off as weird
to women no doubt
The Social Statuses that will like this
Short film will be all the ones I have
listed as this type of target audience
doesn’t particularly matter for this
game due to the fact that it is a
simple comedy film and isn’t
connected to the real world in any
way.
The interviews I did see were helpful
and helped me out quite a bit when
making this film so, it should appeal
to them.
The psychographics
I picked for this
Short Film should
like it as belongers
prefer to be in their
comfort zones yet, I
wanted it to be
relatively original so
I hope it doesn’t
effect them in
anyway.
The age range will
certainly like this
film game as I
wanted it to be an
experience for older
audiences as well
as younger ones
too because they
shouldn’t have
issues with wacky
duo films and
besides, comedies
are for everyone
anyway.
12. What did you like about the product?
The narrative is very clear, and linear. You quickly realise it’s a
teleportation device as they establish a corridor to witch the character
returns after teleporting. The cinematography is good and you always
know where the characters are, you are never ‘lost’.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
The product might have benefited from having a music score however
this was not necessary to the plot.
Overall I’d give it a good 9/10
13. What did you like about the product?
I think the whole idea of the film is good. It’s like a sit-com. Two
guys running around because they are late for class.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
The only bit was the end scene where the sun is shining in the
back, otherwise it’s all good!!
14. What did you like about the product?
I liked the whole comedic aspect of the film. I liked the music in the
background, because it fits in with the theme of the film.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
I think that the sound effects could have been made louder as I could
not really hear them along with the music. Apart from this there are no
issues with the film.
15. What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree with pretty much everything that has been said by the people that
saw my feedback whether its bad or good. Feedback 1 mentions that the
film is easy to understand and never gets lost because all characters are
on screen at once and there are never any clips without any characters.
Feedback 2 mentions that the it is pretty good for a sit-com (its not) as the
characters are just messing around before class and end up being late
though I take this as a compliment because it shows that they enjoyed it in
their own unique way. Feed back 2 also mentions the issue with the bright
light at the end which does kind of ruin it and I agree with this as it is a
severe issue. Feedback 3 mentions that the soundtrack goes well with the
theme of the film which I agree with because I had designed the
soundtrack to be like this weird loop that perfectly fits their weird situation
and their shenanigans. He also mentioned that the sound effects should
be louder because the soundtrack kind of makes hearing them difficult.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I disagree with a point that feedback 1 mentioned about there being no
music and I can confirm that there is music but, he probably just didn’t
hear it that well as the class was noisy that day and he probably confused
the track for sound effects. This is the only one I disagree with.
16. The changes I would make to my Product go as follows:
1. Alter the lighting in the last shots as the sun is far too bright and draws
attention away from the characters
2. Make the sound effects louder so, they can actually be heard over the
soundtrack.
3. Make the soundtrack stand out more as it seems to be easily
confused for sound effects so, I should either change them or make
soundtrack more unique.
I would change these things about it because they are the only things that
have been listed that I agree should be changed and I am well open
to criticism as long as it is fair and constructive. I would do anything to
make my content better.
