Colours
Colour Analysis
• The colour schemes that are listed here are colour templates from a website known as ‘Coolors’ and this website allows you to create a
colour template from an existing image so, if you want a specific colour from a specific image then this website is fairly useful. I decided
to create 4 of these out of 4 images that I found to be related to my product; the first template is from an image of a deer and the
reason as to why I picked this is because animals are closely linked with taxidermy which is the core element of my product and is the
name of my antagonist due to the method of which he kills his prey. The deer, or an animal with a similar colour, is the type of colour
scheme I think about when thinking about taxidermy although, this has no real value and is just how I perceive taxidermy. Because of
this, the colours I ended up with a 3 different shades of brown, a grey colour and a black colour. The colour brown has some
connotations with dullness, fertility, comfort and dependability and these connotations match pretty well with the antagonistic
character as he is considered to be dependable and comforting to those around him and the other characters can be considered dull for
not considering his strange behaviour which comes across to Stan as being quite obviously those of a psychopath. His fertile nature
could represent a new feature for his personality; I could add the fact that he is a gardener or something to it or have this show in his
dependable and comforting nature, perhaps he’s good with kids. The colour grey on the other hand has connotations with formality,
sophistication, dirtiness and depression. The first two could be used to develop the antagonists character as these aspects can
represent a more kind and virtuous person whereas the dirtiness and depression can symbolize his actual nature and this goes hand in
hand with the contrasting nature of comedy/horrors. The colour black has connotations with mystery, evil, fear and authority. Perhaps
these colours could represent the characters closeness to being evil and mysterious and his fear and authority is what keeps people
from saying anything or even, the friend of Stan’s who is actually the killer and the colour could be used to foreshadow his true nature,
perhaps he can wear the colour on him to denote his authority and his mystery. Its an idea that could wok if executed properly. The
second colour scheme on the other hand is not linked with an images but rather, is a colour scheme that more closely resembles the
comedic aspects due to the light nature. These colours do stand out a lot and can be associated with feelings of joy, happiness and
stability. These colours can be added into the background as the mise-en-scene or even on clothing to represent the characters. I have
considered tying red to Stan’s friend as it can help foreshadow his motives and bring more attention to his actions but, this could make
it more obvious and people are more likely to doubt him and guess that he is the villain to be concerned about. The colour blue is more
closely tied with masculinity and this helps to appeal to my male audience more due to the colour being favoured by mostly men. The
third colour scheme on the other hand was the template taken from an image of Freddy Krueger from the ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’
series and has some more dark, horror meanings. The dark red can help to symbolize the danger of red and the darkness of black and
this could be represented by adding it to Stan’s friend and the reason for this is because the colour won’t stand out as much but, it still
keeps its connotations and meanings along with the colour black which I find to be a nice addition to my product in the end. There are
also some more browns here but, I have gone through their meanings so, listing them again would be pointless. As for how all these
colours link with my audience; they appear to be more masculine by nature with some more lighter colours better appealing to women
so, this matches up with my audience pretty well. When it comes to age, the darker colours can help to appal to more mature
audiences due to its dark nature where as more younger audiences can seek comfort in the more lighter colours however, they can’t be
too young due to the age restriction being 15 and above as that is what I have intended. The lighter colours may not make it into the
production though as they stand out too much but, they may make their way into the mise-en-scene or wont be used at all.

Font Analysis
• The fonts that I have selected here are all potential candidates for usage in my product for the reason that all of them give me the impression that
they are fonts that match the horror genre or the comedy genre. Half of them were downloaded from DaFont whereas the others are fonts that
come from the system by default.
• The first font is ‘American Horror Story’ and this font is one that has been downloaded from Dafont and is most likely a fan made one based off of the
TV series by the same name. This font would probably be suitable as title text more so than body text which is mainly due to its annoying and
obnoxious writing formula which, at the same time, may be a reason as to why I shouldn’t pick this specific font but, I like the design even if it is
difficult to read so, I may consider using this one for my project. I may use this font in the text frames for my trailer or the poster itself.
• The next font is ‘Artifact’ and this font has a strange design which adds to the creep factor and could help with the horror aspect of the product. The
font also has this child like theme because of the way the font is written out which can make the product more disturbing in that regard. I feel that
this text would work better as the title font rather then the body text font because it would get increasingly difficult to read if the font size was small
and there was a lot of it. I may use this font however there is nothing childlike about my short film trailer so it wouldn’t portray the correct mood and
theme to the audience.
• The next font is broken glass and this font can actually double as a horror and a comedy font which makes it perfect for use in my product however,
its far too bold and its design is somewhat simple and it could also work more effectively in an action product instead and this does not match my
product in anyway so I may consider not using it.
• The fourth font is ‘D the Hero’ which is quite a weird font with a fair bit of gravel and boldness too it which gives me the impression that the font is
more of a horror font and I definitely believe that this font suits the product more but, I would only use it for heading text because the boldness
means that it would never work for body text at all. I may put it into my poster or trailer to be used for the text frames.
• The fifth font that I have considered is ‘Darks Calibri Remix’ and this font is more on the comedy side I feel as the font is quite bold and looks very
simple which contrasts the somewhat difficult to read horror fonts. Again, I would only consider using the font for headings due to how bold it is. The
blackness of the font may also be difficult to use because the I intended the background to be black and changing the colour of the font may badly
effect the font overall so, use of this font will most likely not happen.
• The following font is ‘Erthqake’ and I only selected this font because I though that it would fit with my product but, now considering it, I really doubt
that it would work especially when taking extra edits into consideration for my product. This font would only work as a heading and definitely would
not work as a body font for the simple reason that the font blurs far too much and the split in the text may make editing more difficult later on.
• Another font is Metropolitan and this font is pretty good for a heading because of its horror themes however it does lack some comedy elements so,
it may fail quite spectaculary. I may use this font for the headings over the others but, I am still quite split.
• Cochin is a good body text font to make use of due to its harsh yet old-fashioned feeling so, using this might be the best idea for me however, the
other fonts are pretty good as well so, I have decided to make this choice while editing production work.

Image Style Analysis
• The first image has a quite a filling composition, the shot has one of the characters up front covering the entire frame which
means that this scene uses fill the frame composition. Despite this, there is some negative space where the pavement is and
where some of the other characters can be seen so, the shot is quite creepy for that reason. There is also some artificial lighting
which can be seen to back of the image which comes from one of the lights in the background. Useful for creating suspense. I
may consider using this specific composition in my trailer. The second shot has the monster to the far right which leaves quite a
huge amount of negative space where one of the characters can be seen to the left. This draw more attention to the monster
yet, it also gives people more room to look around and explore the desolate surroundings. The lighting in this scene is artificial
as the light comes from the evening sun with no ambient light to be seen in the shot. This creates more suspense as there are
more shadows dotted around the mise-en-scene making the overall shot darker. This can help to contrast the kids innocent
nature and the monsters vile impurity; the kids represent the light and the monster represent darkness. The lack of light can
also represent who is dominant in this situation as well. Meanwhile the fourth shot has a lot of space between the two of them
which represents there emotional distance and how much they hate each. This also means that there is a lot of negative space
where the dark, grey walls of the prison can be seen as a visual reminder that there life is miserable and that they are in prison.
This is further strengthened by the heavy use of the colour orange on there body's as this colour stands out and draw the
audience in to the two characters. The seventh shot on the other hand has quite a lot of negative space to the top of the frame
and is filled by a lot of the characters. It can help to show the safety in the scene as there are a lot of people more enclosed
together rather than the second shot with no other characters present. In a way, this scene just represents safety which will be
soon changed when Freddy shows up in her dream and the other characters disintegrate. All of these shots will be fairly difficult
to add into my trailer due to the fact that it may require more actors however, this can be changed later.
• The poster and box art on the other hand are really similar to each other so, they will be analysed together. Scary movie utilizes
some all of the characters and positions them in the middle of the frame while leaving some negative space to the left and right
and this is most likely used to draw the audiences attention in to the centre. The title is positioned at the bottom of the page
and is coloured red so, the audience sees the title first and their eyes are drawn upwards by the other characters. The
antagonist gets the centre stage in this shot which is the same for most DVD covers and posters however, he is with the other
characters and the lack of darkness really pushes forward the idea that this is a comedy/horror film rather than just a horror
film. Shaun of the dead on the other hand fills up all the space quite nicely on the poster as there is a lot of red on the door
followed by the zombies and Shaun. This gives the impression that it is a comedy/horror film as if it were a horror film it would
be more like the Box Art instead but even then, that box art uses a lot of white and negative space which is somewhat filled by
some of the zombies. The back covers for the box art use quite a lot of images and these tend to be to the left so, it does not
interfere with peoples line of sight when they flip the box over. Some of them on the other hand, ae shown to have them
located on the right side sometimes with some in the middle so, it doesn't really seem to matter however I would much prefer
the left hand side so it doesn't make it difficult for people to find it after they turn the box over as people in Britain and America
read left to right. Much like Krampus, I should have an image of something’; a knife, a mask etc. and have them positioned in
the centre of the page with a lot of negative space to give the product that horror feel.

5. pre production

  • 3. Colour Analysis • The colour schemes that are listed here are colour templates from a website known as ‘Coolors’ and this website allows you to create a colour template from an existing image so, if you want a specific colour from a specific image then this website is fairly useful. I decided to create 4 of these out of 4 images that I found to be related to my product; the first template is from an image of a deer and the reason as to why I picked this is because animals are closely linked with taxidermy which is the core element of my product and is the name of my antagonist due to the method of which he kills his prey. The deer, or an animal with a similar colour, is the type of colour scheme I think about when thinking about taxidermy although, this has no real value and is just how I perceive taxidermy. Because of this, the colours I ended up with a 3 different shades of brown, a grey colour and a black colour. The colour brown has some connotations with dullness, fertility, comfort and dependability and these connotations match pretty well with the antagonistic character as he is considered to be dependable and comforting to those around him and the other characters can be considered dull for not considering his strange behaviour which comes across to Stan as being quite obviously those of a psychopath. His fertile nature could represent a new feature for his personality; I could add the fact that he is a gardener or something to it or have this show in his dependable and comforting nature, perhaps he’s good with kids. The colour grey on the other hand has connotations with formality, sophistication, dirtiness and depression. The first two could be used to develop the antagonists character as these aspects can represent a more kind and virtuous person whereas the dirtiness and depression can symbolize his actual nature and this goes hand in hand with the contrasting nature of comedy/horrors. The colour black has connotations with mystery, evil, fear and authority. Perhaps these colours could represent the characters closeness to being evil and mysterious and his fear and authority is what keeps people from saying anything or even, the friend of Stan’s who is actually the killer and the colour could be used to foreshadow his true nature, perhaps he can wear the colour on him to denote his authority and his mystery. Its an idea that could wok if executed properly. The second colour scheme on the other hand is not linked with an images but rather, is a colour scheme that more closely resembles the comedic aspects due to the light nature. These colours do stand out a lot and can be associated with feelings of joy, happiness and stability. These colours can be added into the background as the mise-en-scene or even on clothing to represent the characters. I have considered tying red to Stan’s friend as it can help foreshadow his motives and bring more attention to his actions but, this could make it more obvious and people are more likely to doubt him and guess that he is the villain to be concerned about. The colour blue is more closely tied with masculinity and this helps to appeal to my male audience more due to the colour being favoured by mostly men. The third colour scheme on the other hand was the template taken from an image of Freddy Krueger from the ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ series and has some more dark, horror meanings. The dark red can help to symbolize the danger of red and the darkness of black and this could be represented by adding it to Stan’s friend and the reason for this is because the colour won’t stand out as much but, it still keeps its connotations and meanings along with the colour black which I find to be a nice addition to my product in the end. There are also some more browns here but, I have gone through their meanings so, listing them again would be pointless. As for how all these colours link with my audience; they appear to be more masculine by nature with some more lighter colours better appealing to women so, this matches up with my audience pretty well. When it comes to age, the darker colours can help to appal to more mature audiences due to its dark nature where as more younger audiences can seek comfort in the more lighter colours however, they can’t be too young due to the age restriction being 15 and above as that is what I have intended. The lighter colours may not make it into the production though as they stand out too much but, they may make their way into the mise-en-scene or wont be used at all.

  • 5. Font Analysis • The fonts that I have selected here are all potential candidates for usage in my product for the reason that all of them give me the impression that they are fonts that match the horror genre or the comedy genre. Half of them were downloaded from DaFont whereas the others are fonts that come from the system by default. • The first font is ‘American Horror Story’ and this font is one that has been downloaded from Dafont and is most likely a fan made one based off of the TV series by the same name. This font would probably be suitable as title text more so than body text which is mainly due to its annoying and obnoxious writing formula which, at the same time, may be a reason as to why I shouldn’t pick this specific font but, I like the design even if it is difficult to read so, I may consider using this one for my project. I may use this font in the text frames for my trailer or the poster itself. • The next font is ‘Artifact’ and this font has a strange design which adds to the creep factor and could help with the horror aspect of the product. The font also has this child like theme because of the way the font is written out which can make the product more disturbing in that regard. I feel that this text would work better as the title font rather then the body text font because it would get increasingly difficult to read if the font size was small and there was a lot of it. I may use this font however there is nothing childlike about my short film trailer so it wouldn’t portray the correct mood and theme to the audience. • The next font is broken glass and this font can actually double as a horror and a comedy font which makes it perfect for use in my product however, its far too bold and its design is somewhat simple and it could also work more effectively in an action product instead and this does not match my product in anyway so I may consider not using it. • The fourth font is ‘D the Hero’ which is quite a weird font with a fair bit of gravel and boldness too it which gives me the impression that the font is more of a horror font and I definitely believe that this font suits the product more but, I would only use it for heading text because the boldness means that it would never work for body text at all. I may put it into my poster or trailer to be used for the text frames. • The fifth font that I have considered is ‘Darks Calibri Remix’ and this font is more on the comedy side I feel as the font is quite bold and looks very simple which contrasts the somewhat difficult to read horror fonts. Again, I would only consider using the font for headings due to how bold it is. The blackness of the font may also be difficult to use because the I intended the background to be black and changing the colour of the font may badly effect the font overall so, use of this font will most likely not happen. • The following font is ‘Erthqake’ and I only selected this font because I though that it would fit with my product but, now considering it, I really doubt that it would work especially when taking extra edits into consideration for my product. This font would only work as a heading and definitely would not work as a body font for the simple reason that the font blurs far too much and the split in the text may make editing more difficult later on. • Another font is Metropolitan and this font is pretty good for a heading because of its horror themes however it does lack some comedy elements so, it may fail quite spectaculary. I may use this font for the headings over the others but, I am still quite split. • Cochin is a good body text font to make use of due to its harsh yet old-fashioned feeling so, using this might be the best idea for me however, the other fonts are pretty good as well so, I have decided to make this choice while editing production work.
  • 9. Image Style Analysis • The first image has a quite a filling composition, the shot has one of the characters up front covering the entire frame which means that this scene uses fill the frame composition. Despite this, there is some negative space where the pavement is and where some of the other characters can be seen so, the shot is quite creepy for that reason. There is also some artificial lighting which can be seen to back of the image which comes from one of the lights in the background. Useful for creating suspense. I may consider using this specific composition in my trailer. The second shot has the monster to the far right which leaves quite a huge amount of negative space where one of the characters can be seen to the left. This draw more attention to the monster yet, it also gives people more room to look around and explore the desolate surroundings. The lighting in this scene is artificial as the light comes from the evening sun with no ambient light to be seen in the shot. This creates more suspense as there are more shadows dotted around the mise-en-scene making the overall shot darker. This can help to contrast the kids innocent nature and the monsters vile impurity; the kids represent the light and the monster represent darkness. The lack of light can also represent who is dominant in this situation as well. Meanwhile the fourth shot has a lot of space between the two of them which represents there emotional distance and how much they hate each. This also means that there is a lot of negative space where the dark, grey walls of the prison can be seen as a visual reminder that there life is miserable and that they are in prison. This is further strengthened by the heavy use of the colour orange on there body's as this colour stands out and draw the audience in to the two characters. The seventh shot on the other hand has quite a lot of negative space to the top of the frame and is filled by a lot of the characters. It can help to show the safety in the scene as there are a lot of people more enclosed together rather than the second shot with no other characters present. In a way, this scene just represents safety which will be soon changed when Freddy shows up in her dream and the other characters disintegrate. All of these shots will be fairly difficult to add into my trailer due to the fact that it may require more actors however, this can be changed later. • The poster and box art on the other hand are really similar to each other so, they will be analysed together. Scary movie utilizes some all of the characters and positions them in the middle of the frame while leaving some negative space to the left and right and this is most likely used to draw the audiences attention in to the centre. The title is positioned at the bottom of the page and is coloured red so, the audience sees the title first and their eyes are drawn upwards by the other characters. The antagonist gets the centre stage in this shot which is the same for most DVD covers and posters however, he is with the other characters and the lack of darkness really pushes forward the idea that this is a comedy/horror film rather than just a horror film. Shaun of the dead on the other hand fills up all the space quite nicely on the poster as there is a lot of red on the door followed by the zombies and Shaun. This gives the impression that it is a comedy/horror film as if it were a horror film it would be more like the Box Art instead but even then, that box art uses a lot of white and negative space which is somewhat filled by some of the zombies. The back covers for the box art use quite a lot of images and these tend to be to the left so, it does not interfere with peoples line of sight when they flip the box over. Some of them on the other hand, ae shown to have them located on the right side sometimes with some in the middle so, it doesn't really seem to matter however I would much prefer the left hand side so it doesn't make it difficult for people to find it after they turn the box over as people in Britain and America read left to right. Much like Krampus, I should have an image of something’; a knife, a mask etc. and have them positioned in the centre of the page with a lot of negative space to give the product that horror feel.
