Research
• The first steps of research was to analyse pre-existing products related to
my film. I had already have been inspired by other films which made it
easier for me to pic what to research. I firstly chose to research the “Get
Out” trailer I felt as if the trailer was done very effectively keeping with
mystery while giving a plot. The strength within this was that fact I could
deeply analyse the meaning and reason for why it was put in the trailer. I
analysed the shot for shot and understood why each and every scene was
put together in order to adapt this for my product. The weaknesses from
this was with the fact that it was fairly overwhelming and a brilliantly done
trailer meaning that I couldn't adapt well enough and the in-depth
meaning was beyond me. The help which this existing product gave me
was the idea and understanding of compiling scenes to make an effective
trailer. To improve I would have tried actually mimicking the trailer to get a
greater and better understanding of how they edited each scene. Also to
actually watch the film.
Research
• My second existing product was for the “we need to talk about Kevin”
trailer. I chose this trailer as they have good use of red herring making the
audience change there idea of what they first persevered. the strength
within this part of my research is how I understood how I will manage to
create an effective twist within my trailer from analyzing carefully. I
focused on analyzing how they managed to make the twist gradually
apparent without being a sudden surprise making it fairly eerie. I managed
to find out that it was too do with the music followed by the quotes that
pulled it off. The weaknesses within the research was the fact that I hadn't
researched any other Techniques that could have been very beneficial for
my product and rather only focused on one. I adapted the red hearing
technique and created a more different take on it which I think had a very
effective outcome.
Research
• The first stage of the audience research was to make the survey. The survey
included the basic questions such as your name, age and gender etc. but the
strength rely on the questions that focus deeply on the audiences opinions.
For example what movie of my products genre is there favorite or if they
would rather have a movie with or without gore/violence. These type of
questions help me pinpoint my basic audience and what I will have to achieve
in order to please them. The weaknesses within this was the lack of amount of
people answering my survey making it difficult to have a just audience.
• The next part of my audience research was my interviews and being face to
face with my audience. This time I can be as in depth as possible as there are
no tick boxes and the fact that its coming from of my interviewees word. The
strength relies on both the in depth questions and the incredible feedback.
The heavily detailed responses helped me with coming up with amazing
unique ideas that did eventually effect my final project. This is shown by the
use of gore I use to the length of the trailer itself. The weaknesses again is the
fact that it only focuses on individual audiences and not a whole.
Planning
• The first part of the planning was the mind maps so I first started with doing three potential ideas that
peeks my interest such as a graphic novel, mockumentary and a psychological horror. These ideas are all
analysed in some depth but the idea I have mostly analysed makes it towards my final mind map. The
strength within these mind map is the depth my mind spreads from each mind map. The weaknesses on
the other hand is the lack of information within the graphic novel and the mockumentary mind map
making it feel unbiased. The mind map itself also looks very messy and hard to navigate so for my last
mind map I tried to give it a unique design splitting each section. The strong part of the mind map are the
character concept with actual character drawn and annotated. This shows how I imagine the character
with how they think and act. I've done this with only both my A list characters on opposite sides to show
there differences. I have made separate sections for such things like plot, locations, props etc. The only
criticism I have with this mind map is the fact that my handwriting can be quite rough and difficult to read.
This has of course effected my final project as it’s the beginning of my idea generating so most of the ideas
has been carried over and adapted to my film such. If I could go back and improve I would most defiantly
make the mind map more neat and easier to read. My next step in planning was my mood board. I chosen
images from movies such as silence of the lambs, Bronson and we need to talk about Kevin. I gathered
these images as I think can be very heavily related to my film and characters. For the images and movies
use techniques to convey the psychology with cinematography, colours and acting. The strength within
this is the inspiration from each image and how I have understood the reasoning behind the techniques.
The weaknesses with this is the fact that have only covered three films and gathered my images from
them rather than any other film which may not have not been enough for my film. I have used some of the
techniques for my film such as the one used in “silence of the lambs" but more low key as the scenario
was not as sinister. I wasn’t able to use the technique from “Bronson” as for the lack of equipment and the
restriction of locations. As for the technique from ”call me Kevin”, I wasn’t able to master this skill as I had
a lack of equipment or location options to capture the effect.
Planning
The next stages of planning were my layouts and style sheets. This means I can
refine my ideas of what my poster or film will look like. I chose to do three poster
designs as I had no idea of how to design it. I made a professional one from my
experiments and two rough plans within my PowerPoint. Doing three plans
helped me a lot to refine an idea of what I wanted as the process has inspired me.
The faults with this though is the fact that it has left me with too many choices
making it difficult for me to decide of which Is most effective. The last layout I
have done is heavily influential to my final design as it has simple colours, a
window and a silhouette of my protagonist. To improve I would make the posters
look more professional so that I can see how effective they can be when fully
designed. For my film layout I recorded test footage as an experiment to then
colour grade. Doing this would help me understand what colour theme will best
suit my film. The strength with doing this was that it got me more use to premier
and taught me the different effects with colour grading. The weaknesses within
though is that I haven't captured many shots such as a very darker or a very bright
set. This did influence my final product a lot as i have used the same colour
grading technique to make my film look a bit more cinematic.
Time Management
• Time was definitely very difficult to handle for this project as booking equipment was a
hassle. I thought the best idea was to book equipment for the holiday so I can
comfortably record everything comfortably. Before the holidays I carried on improving
my theory as well as creating my poster. During this time I also had time to improve my
story board as well as coming up with more poster designs and managed to get a few
shots with in college. Once it was time to film, it became more stressful as work has
booked me in for most of the days during the holiday. This with the fact my main actor
had to do a lot of his project during the holiday. This left me off with only two days to
shoot making really tight. We did then successfully record most of my film however I
needed a few more shots as well as rerecord some shots which I had to doo during
college days. After capturing everything it took my a while to rearrange the clips and
colour grade them to make as professional as possible. This began to take way to long
as the exams made the week very awkward and hard to keep track. For the last week I
had the chance to finish fitting all the footage, colour grading and half of the music as
well as recording all the dialogue. Everything else was comfortably finished during the
improvement week such as the title screens and the audio. Overall the weaknesses
during this is the fact that couldn't manage my time at all and should of know I had
work during the holiday as well as booking equipment earlier. If I had all the time I
wanted I would shoot way more interesting scenes as well as making the practical
effects more convincing.
Technical QualitiesDifferences
There are more differences between these products then there are similarities even though they both include
psychopaths. The most obvious contrast is the way the trailers are portrayed. My trailer is made to look serious with
the quite and steady music along with dramatic paced footage. While on the other hand American psychos trailer starts
with fast up beat drumming seemingly suitable for an action movie or a comedy. This is along with fast clips of Patrick
Batmen living his high class life. This somewhat makes sense as the American psycho “trailer” is emphasising the black
comedy side of the film. The structure within American psycho is very random and jumbled not sticking to a certain
theme while my trailer seems to look chronologically ordered.
Similarities
There are some similarities within these trailers like some of the shots and scenes. For example there are shots of both
protagonist looking straight into the camera, looking into a mirror, hunting someone, using an axe. There are also some
similarities with the protagonists as they are both mentally unstable while also maintaining a positive persona. All the b
list characters are viewed in the eyes of the protagonist, emphasised with the narrating.
Aesthetic Qualities
Overall im somewhat happy with my project since I had to record
and edit with a tight schedule. The area which I think is most creative
and thought through as it includes many techniques from my
researched from. For example I wanted to make the atmosphere feel
elegant and seemingly positive at the start.. I accomplished this by
using the steady cam to track around the house to transition to the
next segment of the scene. I also used a similar technique to create
tension by tracking away from Arthurs blood stained figure making it
sinister. Along with this is the track shot of Jack running seemingly
away from Arthur. With the camera going forward and back makes
an uneasy vibe creating something sinister. In another area of filming
which I liked was the scene where Jack and Arthur meet. I tried to
making Jack look uncomfortably intimate to Arthur by making James
(who played jack) stare at the camera very directly. I did the opposite
with Arthurs response as he's looking away from the camera with an
uneasy manner. At the end of the trailer when it reverts back to the
scene I made Arthur look at the camera in confidents showing a
certain change. I have also used a dolly shot to make it seem like
Arthur has gone through something making him look uneasy. This
made it look like that there is context around the scene even there's
non at all.
Which I also partially like are some of the sounds I used like for
example the running scene. Whenever it reverts back to shot of
Arthur I used some kind of bell sound which added a sense of
emptiness, like as if its the end for Jack. I then also added heart beat
sounds which seems like a foreshadow to the death of Jack.
Aesthetic Qualities
The aspects which I dislike are especially with most of the
sound. With the deadline approaching I had to think of
shortcuts to create my music which was not creating it at all
and downloading them from a royalty free website. They
did come across professional however I wasn’t able to
tweak the music to suit the film as it sounds unnatural like
for example the repeated note when Arthur meets jack
sounded obviously edited. Some of the dialogue sounded
just a bit off breaking the tension. Probably one of the worst
sounds I have used with the hand appearing. The sound felt
very different and did not suit the rest of the sounds I have
used. One of the aspects of my film which I dislike are the
lack of various scenes making it feel empty. There is also a
very slow start to the film which I think I should’ve
shortened leaving room for more fast paced scenes.
I would like to improve a lot with the sound as I have never
had the time with to improve upon it. If I had the time I
would defiantly try and create my own songs/sounds from
garage band or any other sound software since I have no
skill in this genre. Doing this would expand my knowledge
an skill of film making. I would then shoot more scenes to
give my film a better structure and more immersion.
Audience Appeal
My film will defiantly be for a higher age range as my trailer will be about quite a dark topic about
the contrast between a normal character and a psychopath conveyed through cinematography
such as the scene where Arthur is covered in blood and his sinister dialogue. I will be restricting
the age to be at least 15-30. I'm not making the age range any higher as there isn’t any violence
nor harsh language. My trailer will be focusing on two male characters which means it may not
relate to a female audience however the plot isn’t focused on male behaviour but rather the minds
of normal and abnormal. This means that my project will be targeting for both genders as I want
an opinion and review from both demographics. I think it would be more leaning to male as
statistically more men go to watch films especially for one that includes violence. For my social
class, I will most defiantly be targeting it towards A, B, C1 as they are most likely to be going into a
cinema to watch a psychological film. I will most likely be focused on a balanced psychographic as
I’m hoping to educate them about mentally broken people.
I feel as if I have appealed towards what I have targeted from my proposal as I managed to
include enough of what I wanted in my film. I managed to control the amount of graphic scenes to
reach my target age as well as making an effective scene. I wasn’t able to manage a 2 minute
trailer as most of my answerers form my survey wanted however I felt as if I was cutting down
many important scenes. I felt as if I was able to capture a trailer with a brief insight of the plot as
most of my answerers wanted since the narrative and the scenes had some sense while having
mystery. Most people voted yes for gore and violence which allowed me to include blood but not
much further than that. I'm not sure if that’s the level of what my audience wanted but I think its
enough to be effective.
Peer
Feedback
Feedback 1 poster
• What did you like about the product?
I like how professional the poster looks with all the information at the footer of the poster. The
use of 3 single colours rather than a variety of colours matches the genre of the film well,
however I cant see the film so I can only guess what its about. The use of the colour red works
exceptionally well along side the font used for the cast names and title. The blood trails along the
bottom also looks great like its suppose to be there rather than it looking likes its been edited in,
if I has been edited in.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
I would have liked to have been able to see something more than just the poster like a DVD case
and a clip from the movie. I’m guessing that you intended to show some of the film however its
not finished yet. From what I can see there isn’t much that I can think of that needs improving
except the lack of content which I understand isn’t complete yet.
Feedback 1 film
• What did you like about the product
• the most impressive thing about the film I would say is the camera work, all
the shots are smooth and the use of the Dutch tilt really work well wit the
genre of the film. The sound effects are really impressive too. The sudden cuts
to black also work great with the genre of the film.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of the American psycho Parody at the
start. I think that the blue dot from the pattern of the mirror stands out
too much when the angle of the camera makes it cover his nose. The first
time when James case talks in the film, the music stops and I think that
the volume of his voice is a little too loud and doesn't’t feel natural. In the
same scene I think the music should’ve been playing continuously instead
of stopping when he talks are starting again after. The loud tone from the
first note played sounds a little strange. Overall I really like how the short
film turned out.
Feedback 2 poster
• What did you like about the product?
– I like that the poster is overall very simple, it is very dark and more or less only
uses silhouettes. This makes it very easy to fin the focal points of the poster.
Due to the fact that the overwhelming majority of the poster is black, the
highlights really stand out and the large white title in the centre really stands
out and catches your eye.
– I like the composition as well as we are first drawn to the title as it is very
dominant over the poster, then the character standing up as he is also very
dominant within the frame. And lastly we notice the shadow below with the
character looming over a corpse. This adds mystery to the poster and entices
the audience.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– There aren’t a whole heap of improvements, as I think overall the poster is
very good. I would maybe remove some of the black bars as there is a lot of
them which is a little overwhelming and to a degree uncomfortable to look at.
But other than that I cannot really think of any improvements.
Feedback 2 film
• What did you like about the product?
• The trailer is nicely tied together and circles back around to
the beginning thanks to the voice over. The colour grading
works very well and looks good. The sequencing is nice and
overall the viewer gets a good idea what the full film would be
about, thus working quiet effectively as a film trailer.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
– There are a few audio glitches and areas where the
dialogue doesn't properly match up with the mouthes of
the person(s) speaking.
Feedback 3 poster
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the simplicity of the red and black on the poster, it’s simple yet
very artistic and gives good insight to what the film is about even
without reading the title. I especially like the shadow effect on the
ground also.
– I also like how the silhouette of the man catches your eye first and
really draws you in to look at the poster, this leading on to reading the
title of the film.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
– I would have been nice to watch the film itself and see if the poster did
it justice. Other than that, I don’t see many further improvements.
Feedback 3 film
• What did you like about the product?
• I liked the angles in which some of the scenes were shot and the dramatic
effect it left between scenes when I wasn’t sure what was coming next.
Now watching the film with sound, it made it so much better and easier to
follow what was going on. I like the plot of the trailer and if it were to be
turned into a film it would be very enjoyable.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– I didn't quite know what genre the film was, it seemed to be little
hard to tell. Would’ve been nice to have some sound too. Please oh
please take that buzzing off oh my god!!!
Peer Feedback Poster Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
– I agree with peer feedback one with the lack of content around the poster as it
could have been created as a DVD cover making it seem more real and
professional.
– I also agree with fact that feedback two mentions the amount of black bars in
front of the window which tells me that he didn’t know that they are blinds.
This means his statement most likely true and that they are overwhelming.
Peer Feedback Film Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I mostly agree with the majority of my feedback as they make total sense and I understand
fully to what they are saying.
– Feedback one explains how I have shown my inspiration from American psycho and how its
almost a copy. I complete agree as this takes away my skill of making a unique script. He also
comments on how a shot is obscured which shows my lack of thought in the composition.
– Feed back three points out the audio glitches thoughout the film and how it doesnt quite fit
the footage which i do agree with very much since i rushed that area of production.
– I partially agree with feedback 3 and her comment about the buzzing sound as the audio
might be too loud or eerie.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– What I disagree with feedback one and three is when they compliment the black pauses in
between segments of my film as they're there for the title screen however due to time I left
them empty. In my eyes it feels incomplete like a missing puzzle piece.
– I disagree with the point to when feedback three states that she cant tell what the genre and
the fact that’s it a negative aspect. I think a trailer should be a mystery to make viewers
curious to discover the genre. Films may not even focus on a certain genre as a story isn't
based around a genre rather the genre is based from the story.
– I somewhat disagree with feedback 3 as her statement was too vague so I disagree with the
fact that I have to remove the sound since it is a key part of that segment of the film.

Fmp evaluation

  • 3. Research • The first steps of research was to analyse pre-existing products related to my film. I had already have been inspired by other films which made it easier for me to pic what to research. I firstly chose to research the “Get Out” trailer I felt as if the trailer was done very effectively keeping with mystery while giving a plot. The strength within this was that fact I could deeply analyse the meaning and reason for why it was put in the trailer. I analysed the shot for shot and understood why each and every scene was put together in order to adapt this for my product. The weaknesses from this was with the fact that it was fairly overwhelming and a brilliantly done trailer meaning that I couldn't adapt well enough and the in-depth meaning was beyond me. The help which this existing product gave me was the idea and understanding of compiling scenes to make an effective trailer. To improve I would have tried actually mimicking the trailer to get a greater and better understanding of how they edited each scene. Also to actually watch the film.
  • 4. Research • My second existing product was for the “we need to talk about Kevin” trailer. I chose this trailer as they have good use of red herring making the audience change there idea of what they first persevered. the strength within this part of my research is how I understood how I will manage to create an effective twist within my trailer from analyzing carefully. I focused on analyzing how they managed to make the twist gradually apparent without being a sudden surprise making it fairly eerie. I managed to find out that it was too do with the music followed by the quotes that pulled it off. The weaknesses within the research was the fact that I hadn't researched any other Techniques that could have been very beneficial for my product and rather only focused on one. I adapted the red hearing technique and created a more different take on it which I think had a very effective outcome.
  • 5. Research • The first stage of the audience research was to make the survey. The survey included the basic questions such as your name, age and gender etc. but the strength rely on the questions that focus deeply on the audiences opinions. For example what movie of my products genre is there favorite or if they would rather have a movie with or without gore/violence. These type of questions help me pinpoint my basic audience and what I will have to achieve in order to please them. The weaknesses within this was the lack of amount of people answering my survey making it difficult to have a just audience. • The next part of my audience research was my interviews and being face to face with my audience. This time I can be as in depth as possible as there are no tick boxes and the fact that its coming from of my interviewees word. The strength relies on both the in depth questions and the incredible feedback. The heavily detailed responses helped me with coming up with amazing unique ideas that did eventually effect my final project. This is shown by the use of gore I use to the length of the trailer itself. The weaknesses again is the fact that it only focuses on individual audiences and not a whole.
  • 6. Planning • The first part of the planning was the mind maps so I first started with doing three potential ideas that peeks my interest such as a graphic novel, mockumentary and a psychological horror. These ideas are all analysed in some depth but the idea I have mostly analysed makes it towards my final mind map. The strength within these mind map is the depth my mind spreads from each mind map. The weaknesses on the other hand is the lack of information within the graphic novel and the mockumentary mind map making it feel unbiased. The mind map itself also looks very messy and hard to navigate so for my last mind map I tried to give it a unique design splitting each section. The strong part of the mind map are the character concept with actual character drawn and annotated. This shows how I imagine the character with how they think and act. I've done this with only both my A list characters on opposite sides to show there differences. I have made separate sections for such things like plot, locations, props etc. The only criticism I have with this mind map is the fact that my handwriting can be quite rough and difficult to read. This has of course effected my final project as it’s the beginning of my idea generating so most of the ideas has been carried over and adapted to my film such. If I could go back and improve I would most defiantly make the mind map more neat and easier to read. My next step in planning was my mood board. I chosen images from movies such as silence of the lambs, Bronson and we need to talk about Kevin. I gathered these images as I think can be very heavily related to my film and characters. For the images and movies use techniques to convey the psychology with cinematography, colours and acting. The strength within this is the inspiration from each image and how I have understood the reasoning behind the techniques. The weaknesses with this is the fact that have only covered three films and gathered my images from them rather than any other film which may not have not been enough for my film. I have used some of the techniques for my film such as the one used in “silence of the lambs" but more low key as the scenario was not as sinister. I wasn’t able to use the technique from “Bronson” as for the lack of equipment and the restriction of locations. As for the technique from ”call me Kevin”, I wasn’t able to master this skill as I had a lack of equipment or location options to capture the effect.
  • 7. Planning The next stages of planning were my layouts and style sheets. This means I can refine my ideas of what my poster or film will look like. I chose to do three poster designs as I had no idea of how to design it. I made a professional one from my experiments and two rough plans within my PowerPoint. Doing three plans helped me a lot to refine an idea of what I wanted as the process has inspired me. The faults with this though is the fact that it has left me with too many choices making it difficult for me to decide of which Is most effective. The last layout I have done is heavily influential to my final design as it has simple colours, a window and a silhouette of my protagonist. To improve I would make the posters look more professional so that I can see how effective they can be when fully designed. For my film layout I recorded test footage as an experiment to then colour grade. Doing this would help me understand what colour theme will best suit my film. The strength with doing this was that it got me more use to premier and taught me the different effects with colour grading. The weaknesses within though is that I haven't captured many shots such as a very darker or a very bright set. This did influence my final product a lot as i have used the same colour grading technique to make my film look a bit more cinematic.
  • 8. Time Management • Time was definitely very difficult to handle for this project as booking equipment was a hassle. I thought the best idea was to book equipment for the holiday so I can comfortably record everything comfortably. Before the holidays I carried on improving my theory as well as creating my poster. During this time I also had time to improve my story board as well as coming up with more poster designs and managed to get a few shots with in college. Once it was time to film, it became more stressful as work has booked me in for most of the days during the holiday. This with the fact my main actor had to do a lot of his project during the holiday. This left me off with only two days to shoot making really tight. We did then successfully record most of my film however I needed a few more shots as well as rerecord some shots which I had to doo during college days. After capturing everything it took my a while to rearrange the clips and colour grade them to make as professional as possible. This began to take way to long as the exams made the week very awkward and hard to keep track. For the last week I had the chance to finish fitting all the footage, colour grading and half of the music as well as recording all the dialogue. Everything else was comfortably finished during the improvement week such as the title screens and the audio. Overall the weaknesses during this is the fact that couldn't manage my time at all and should of know I had work during the holiday as well as booking equipment earlier. If I had all the time I wanted I would shoot way more interesting scenes as well as making the practical effects more convincing.
  • 9. Technical QualitiesDifferences There are more differences between these products then there are similarities even though they both include psychopaths. The most obvious contrast is the way the trailers are portrayed. My trailer is made to look serious with the quite and steady music along with dramatic paced footage. While on the other hand American psychos trailer starts with fast up beat drumming seemingly suitable for an action movie or a comedy. This is along with fast clips of Patrick Batmen living his high class life. This somewhat makes sense as the American psycho “trailer” is emphasising the black comedy side of the film. The structure within American psycho is very random and jumbled not sticking to a certain theme while my trailer seems to look chronologically ordered. Similarities There are some similarities within these trailers like some of the shots and scenes. For example there are shots of both protagonist looking straight into the camera, looking into a mirror, hunting someone, using an axe. There are also some similarities with the protagonists as they are both mentally unstable while also maintaining a positive persona. All the b list characters are viewed in the eyes of the protagonist, emphasised with the narrating.
  • 10. Aesthetic Qualities Overall im somewhat happy with my project since I had to record and edit with a tight schedule. The area which I think is most creative and thought through as it includes many techniques from my researched from. For example I wanted to make the atmosphere feel elegant and seemingly positive at the start.. I accomplished this by using the steady cam to track around the house to transition to the next segment of the scene. I also used a similar technique to create tension by tracking away from Arthurs blood stained figure making it sinister. Along with this is the track shot of Jack running seemingly away from Arthur. With the camera going forward and back makes an uneasy vibe creating something sinister. In another area of filming which I liked was the scene where Jack and Arthur meet. I tried to making Jack look uncomfortably intimate to Arthur by making James (who played jack) stare at the camera very directly. I did the opposite with Arthurs response as he's looking away from the camera with an uneasy manner. At the end of the trailer when it reverts back to the scene I made Arthur look at the camera in confidents showing a certain change. I have also used a dolly shot to make it seem like Arthur has gone through something making him look uneasy. This made it look like that there is context around the scene even there's non at all. Which I also partially like are some of the sounds I used like for example the running scene. Whenever it reverts back to shot of Arthur I used some kind of bell sound which added a sense of emptiness, like as if its the end for Jack. I then also added heart beat sounds which seems like a foreshadow to the death of Jack.
  • 11. Aesthetic Qualities The aspects which I dislike are especially with most of the sound. With the deadline approaching I had to think of shortcuts to create my music which was not creating it at all and downloading them from a royalty free website. They did come across professional however I wasn’t able to tweak the music to suit the film as it sounds unnatural like for example the repeated note when Arthur meets jack sounded obviously edited. Some of the dialogue sounded just a bit off breaking the tension. Probably one of the worst sounds I have used with the hand appearing. The sound felt very different and did not suit the rest of the sounds I have used. One of the aspects of my film which I dislike are the lack of various scenes making it feel empty. There is also a very slow start to the film which I think I should’ve shortened leaving room for more fast paced scenes. I would like to improve a lot with the sound as I have never had the time with to improve upon it. If I had the time I would defiantly try and create my own songs/sounds from garage band or any other sound software since I have no skill in this genre. Doing this would expand my knowledge an skill of film making. I would then shoot more scenes to give my film a better structure and more immersion.
  • 12. Audience Appeal My film will defiantly be for a higher age range as my trailer will be about quite a dark topic about the contrast between a normal character and a psychopath conveyed through cinematography such as the scene where Arthur is covered in blood and his sinister dialogue. I will be restricting the age to be at least 15-30. I'm not making the age range any higher as there isn’t any violence nor harsh language. My trailer will be focusing on two male characters which means it may not relate to a female audience however the plot isn’t focused on male behaviour but rather the minds of normal and abnormal. This means that my project will be targeting for both genders as I want an opinion and review from both demographics. I think it would be more leaning to male as statistically more men go to watch films especially for one that includes violence. For my social class, I will most defiantly be targeting it towards A, B, C1 as they are most likely to be going into a cinema to watch a psychological film. I will most likely be focused on a balanced psychographic as I’m hoping to educate them about mentally broken people. I feel as if I have appealed towards what I have targeted from my proposal as I managed to include enough of what I wanted in my film. I managed to control the amount of graphic scenes to reach my target age as well as making an effective scene. I wasn’t able to manage a 2 minute trailer as most of my answerers form my survey wanted however I felt as if I was cutting down many important scenes. I felt as if I was able to capture a trailer with a brief insight of the plot as most of my answerers wanted since the narrative and the scenes had some sense while having mystery. Most people voted yes for gore and violence which allowed me to include blood but not much further than that. I'm not sure if that’s the level of what my audience wanted but I think its enough to be effective.
  • 14. Feedback 1 poster • What did you like about the product? I like how professional the poster looks with all the information at the footer of the poster. The use of 3 single colours rather than a variety of colours matches the genre of the film well, however I cant see the film so I can only guess what its about. The use of the colour red works exceptionally well along side the font used for the cast names and title. The blood trails along the bottom also looks great like its suppose to be there rather than it looking likes its been edited in, if I has been edited in. • What improvements could have been made to the product? I would have liked to have been able to see something more than just the poster like a DVD case and a clip from the movie. I’m guessing that you intended to show some of the film however its not finished yet. From what I can see there isn’t much that I can think of that needs improving except the lack of content which I understand isn’t complete yet.
  • 15. Feedback 1 film • What did you like about the product • the most impressive thing about the film I would say is the camera work, all the shots are smooth and the use of the Dutch tilt really work well wit the genre of the film. The sound effects are really impressive too. The sudden cuts to black also work great with the genre of the film. • What improvements could have been made to the product? – To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of the American psycho Parody at the start. I think that the blue dot from the pattern of the mirror stands out too much when the angle of the camera makes it cover his nose. The first time when James case talks in the film, the music stops and I think that the volume of his voice is a little too loud and doesn't’t feel natural. In the same scene I think the music should’ve been playing continuously instead of stopping when he talks are starting again after. The loud tone from the first note played sounds a little strange. Overall I really like how the short film turned out.
  • 16. Feedback 2 poster • What did you like about the product? – I like that the poster is overall very simple, it is very dark and more or less only uses silhouettes. This makes it very easy to fin the focal points of the poster. Due to the fact that the overwhelming majority of the poster is black, the highlights really stand out and the large white title in the centre really stands out and catches your eye. – I like the composition as well as we are first drawn to the title as it is very dominant over the poster, then the character standing up as he is also very dominant within the frame. And lastly we notice the shadow below with the character looming over a corpse. This adds mystery to the poster and entices the audience. • What improvements could have been made to the product? – There aren’t a whole heap of improvements, as I think overall the poster is very good. I would maybe remove some of the black bars as there is a lot of them which is a little overwhelming and to a degree uncomfortable to look at. But other than that I cannot really think of any improvements.
  • 17. Feedback 2 film • What did you like about the product? • The trailer is nicely tied together and circles back around to the beginning thanks to the voice over. The colour grading works very well and looks good. The sequencing is nice and overall the viewer gets a good idea what the full film would be about, thus working quiet effectively as a film trailer. • What improvements could have been made to the product? – There are a few audio glitches and areas where the dialogue doesn't properly match up with the mouthes of the person(s) speaking.
  • 18. Feedback 3 poster • What did you like about the product? – I like the simplicity of the red and black on the poster, it’s simple yet very artistic and gives good insight to what the film is about even without reading the title. I especially like the shadow effect on the ground also. – I also like how the silhouette of the man catches your eye first and really draws you in to look at the poster, this leading on to reading the title of the film. • What improvements could have been made to the product? – I would have been nice to watch the film itself and see if the poster did it justice. Other than that, I don’t see many further improvements.
  • 19. Feedback 3 film • What did you like about the product? • I liked the angles in which some of the scenes were shot and the dramatic effect it left between scenes when I wasn’t sure what was coming next. Now watching the film with sound, it made it so much better and easier to follow what was going on. I like the plot of the trailer and if it were to be turned into a film it would be very enjoyable. • What improvements could have been made to the product? – I didn't quite know what genre the film was, it seemed to be little hard to tell. Would’ve been nice to have some sound too. Please oh please take that buzzing off oh my god!!!
  • 20. Peer Feedback Poster Summary • What do you agree with from your peer feedback? – I agree with peer feedback one with the lack of content around the poster as it could have been created as a DVD cover making it seem more real and professional. – I also agree with fact that feedback two mentions the amount of black bars in front of the window which tells me that he didn’t know that they are blinds. This means his statement most likely true and that they are overwhelming.
  • 21. Peer Feedback Film Summary • What do you agree with from your peer feedback? – I mostly agree with the majority of my feedback as they make total sense and I understand fully to what they are saying. – Feedback one explains how I have shown my inspiration from American psycho and how its almost a copy. I complete agree as this takes away my skill of making a unique script. He also comments on how a shot is obscured which shows my lack of thought in the composition. – Feed back three points out the audio glitches thoughout the film and how it doesnt quite fit the footage which i do agree with very much since i rushed that area of production. – I partially agree with feedback 3 and her comment about the buzzing sound as the audio might be too loud or eerie. • What do you disagree with from your peer feedback? – What I disagree with feedback one and three is when they compliment the black pauses in between segments of my film as they're there for the title screen however due to time I left them empty. In my eyes it feels incomplete like a missing puzzle piece. – I disagree with the point to when feedback three states that she cant tell what the genre and the fact that’s it a negative aspect. I think a trailer should be a mystery to make viewers curious to discover the genre. Films may not even focus on a certain genre as a story isn't based around a genre rather the genre is based from the story. – I somewhat disagree with feedback 3 as her statement was too vague so I disagree with the fact that I have to remove the sound since it is a key part of that segment of the film.
