Analysis Of Stanley Kramer s Inherit The Wind
In Stanley Kramer s film, Inherit the Wind ; the movie is focused on the 1925 Scopes trial that
occurred in Dayton, Tennessee. John Scopes, a substitute high school teacher at the time, was
accused of violating the Butler Act which said it teaching the theory of human evolution in any
state funded school was unlawful. He was arrested for going against the state law and the trial
The State of Tennessee v. John Thomas Scopes was held in Dayton, Tennessee. The trial was
started in order to attract attention to the small town of Dayton to the world giving the town
intense national publicity. Many news stations and reporters immediately went to Dayton to
cover one of the most controversial cases in history. The case was mainly the issue between
Religion .vs. Science and Modernists .vs. Fundamentalists. Modernists said the theory of
evolution was not related to religion and Fundamentalists said God was responsible for evolution
and it was revealed in the Bible. The eight day trial concluded with John Scopes was found guilty
and fined 100 $ which would be equivalent to about 1,300 $ in today s economy. However, the
court did later overturn the John Scope s conviction based on a technicality. The Butler Act, which
was violated at the time by Scopes, remained until its repeal by the state in 1967. In the movie,
Stanley Kramer turned it into a movie with heroes and villains. Prosecutor William Jennings Bryan,
who was in the Scopes Trial against John Scopes, is portrayed in the

Luban s Critique Of Walzer Conception Of Legitimacy
In this paper, I will argue that Luban s critique of Walzer conception of legitimacy is misguided. I
will first present Walzer s argument for interventions using the legalist paradigm, in particular his
conception of self determination and how the principle of non intervention may be set aside in
exceptional circumstances. I will then present Luban s critique of Walzer and his argument for
developing an account of Just War directly in terms of human rights, before concluding with my
own critique of Luban s argument.
To begin, it will be useful to outline the legalist paradigm, as Walzer conceives it. This paradigm
refers to six propositions:
There exists an international society of independent states
2. This international society has a law that establishes the rights of its members above all, the rights
of territorial integrity and political sovereignty.
3. Any use of force or imminent threat of force by one state against the political sovereignty or
territorial integrity of another constitutes aggression and is a criminal act.
4. Aggression justifies two kinds of violent response: a war of self defense by the victim and a war
of law enforcement by the victim and any other member of international society.
5. Nothing but aggression can justify war.
6. Once the aggressor state has been militarily repulsed, it can also be punished.
What all these propositions seek to uphold is the sovereignty of states and their ability to self
determine their own futures. Aggression is

Brian Williams To Blame
Brian Williams is a newscaster and was formerly the anchor on the Nightly News which aired on
NBC. He began his career in broadcasting in 1981 working for a news station in Kansas, shortly
after he moved to New York City to work for WCBS. In 1993, Williams won his first Emmy for a
report he did on the stock market collapse which gained him his position at NBC. At NBC,
Williams started out as a White House correspondent. In 1996, he graduated from correspondent
to anchor of CNBC and MSNBC on the show The News with Brian Williams. Then in 2004,
Williams took over as anchor for NBC s leading show the Nightly News, which was hosted by Tom

Williams claimed that he was on one of the helicopters hit when he was reporting in Iraq in
2003, however, he was actually on an unaffected helicopter that was flying nearby. Another claim
that Williams made was that he looked into the eyes of Egyptian soldiers that were riding
horseback while covering the Arab Spring in 2011. Yet according to Daily Mail (2015) this did
not happen either; Williams was on a balcony watching over Tahrir Square from a safe distance.
The embellished stories that Williams told do not alter the news value they just make him look
more heroic. Much like the flight engineer Lance Reynolds noted, Williams is trying to
participate in events that he does not deserve to participate in (Farhi, February 2015). Williams is
brave to report on dangerous event around the world, yet that does not give him the right to put
himself in a story as the hero or as he said himself steal anyone s valor . While the details that
Williams added to each of his stories do not change them significantly that cannot justify his actions.
Williams ruined his own career because it is difficult for the public to trust an anchor who

Notorious B I G s Song The Ten Crack Commandments
Hip hop is defined as a subcultural movement that formed during the 1970s in New York City,
among African American and Latin Americans residing in the South Bronx. (Wikipedia,
accessed 27th January 2015). There are lots of different aspects to Hip Hop. The four main parts
of hip hop are Rapping, Djing, Breakdancing and Graffiti. Rapping is similar to a spoken word
that goes with a beat. All of the best rappers have the ability to flow with any beat. My definition
of Hip hop is a way of expressing themselves. It includes anybody but mainly black people and
Latinos. It allows people to be creative, angry and make an impact. As

There are rappers that talk about real stuff but don t get any airtime on the radio. For instances,
Common, Nas and Mos Def are all artists that don t talk about jewellery, cars and girls and don t
receive as much airtime. Dizzee Rascal and Tinie Tempah are UK examples of rappers that
became famous by making pointless, catchy songs. Tinie Tempah became famous off the song
Pass Out . The song doesn t have any meaning and is pointless but it made his career. Bashy,
another UK rapper, made a song called Black boys that discussed the success of black men in the
UK but it didn t make onto the UK charts. The only way to make it big is to make pointless or
offensive songs therefore to outsiders hip hop portrays a negative image as the music they
know about is the offensive or pointless ones. Hip hop doesn t portray a negative image of the
black society to those that love and have grown up on hip hop as there are beautiful, powerful
images that are displayed in hip hop. Hip hop is seen as a voice for black people therefore
showing society that black people can say what they think without resorting to violence. Hip hop
is criticised for its violent images but violence is displayed all over the media e.g. Rock music
talks about violence, pop music is very sexualised, movies are filled with sex and violence. It isn t

How successful were Presidents, Roosevelt, Taft and Wilson...
How successful were Presidents, Roosevelt, Taft and Wilson in addressing America s economic
problems? (24 marks) America in the late 19th and early 20th century was going through
tremendous growth, with mass immigration and the consequent rapid growth of cities and
urbanisation, industrialisation and mass production. Teddy Roosevelt, Taft and Wilson, the 3 main
presidents of the early 20th century are often known for their many achievements both abroad and
at home, and economic problems are one of the many problems that they dealt with during their
terms as president. This essay will touch on the economic problems in that era and how the
presidents dealt with those problems. The first of the presidents Theodore Teddy Roosevelt was a...

This shows how Taft might not have been all that successful in attending the economic problems,
but at the same time shows how he may have been passive with the trust busting with the
intention of future stability of the American economy. Taft showed more of his successful and
unsuccessfulness with the passing of the Payne Aldrich Tariff Act. The tariff was passed by
Congress in 1909, and it was the first change in tariff laws since the Dingley Act of 1897. The
issue had been blatantly ignored by Roosevelt during his terms and the Republicans wanted to
revise the tariff downward. To do this Taft called Congress to a special session, and the bill was
promptly passed, reducing rates. The senate substituted a bill which reduced the number of
downward revisions and increased many others. This angered many and so a compromise bill was
adopted which moderated the high rates that Aldrich had pushed for. Overall the tariff lowered 650
items, raised 220, and left 1150 unchanged. Although it was a push economic change, it was a
largely protectionist move from Taft, showing that he had not much determination in fixing
economic problems. But at the same time it shows that tariffs were needed to maintain some

Bolivar, By Simon Bolivar
When Hugo ChГЎvez was seventeen years of age, he joined the military in Venezuela and
embraced his country. When we speak of ChГЎvez, there were many before him who influenced
the man he wanted to be and became. ChГЎvez and most of Venezuela admired greatly SimГіn
BolГvar, SimГіn BolГvar was a
South American soldier who was instrumental in the continent s revolutions against the Spanish
empire. After France invaded Spain in 1808, he became involved in the resistance movement and
played a key role in the Spanish American fight for independence. In 1825, the Republic of
Bolivia was created in honor of the inspirational leader, hailed by many as El Libertador (The
Liberator). He died on December 17, 1830 in Colombia (SimГіn BolГvar). BolГvar was a
globetrotter and was a huge and crucial component to the revolutionary movement in South
America; he resisted the Spanish in many fronts and battles and succeeded.
BolГvar is the most significant character in South American history; he is seen as a hero and
liberator who brought independence to the people of South America and united them. Further, the
military of Venezuelaremains to resemble BolГvar s influences and his guidance. ChГЎvez as a
child was brought up with the teachings and history of BolГvar and this gave him great perspective
of a ruler. Venezuela was a significant oil exporter and in the 1980s, there was a reduction in the
prices of oil. This affected Venezuela considerably.

Factors Affecting The Australian Financial Stocks
1.Introduction
Financial stocks are the shares issued by financial industries. With the development of global
economics, the volatility of global stocks market reflects the economic situation across a number of
countries. As a result, each nation s fluctuation of stocks plays a significant role in its own
economy. Furthermore, the financial stocks that act as an important sector of the whole stock market
are caused fluctuating by a large number of factors. Without exception, there is a great number of
reasons for the volatility of Australian financial stocks, which cause the whole financial share
market fluctuating unsteadily in Australia as well. The purpose of this report is to discover the most
influential cause of financial stocks volatility in Australia. Moreover, This report will analyse three

Being A Child Of The 90 s Full House Essay
Being a child of the 90 s, Full House was a very popular show for my generation. Least to say
when I saw a spin off, Fuller House was being released this past year to Netflix I was extremely
excited. Coincidently, the spin off released during the time of this course. Believe it or not, I
immediately referenced parenting styles to the episode where DJ Tanner punishes her son a little
differently than Kimmy Gibler punishes her daughter, although the committed the same crime. I
am hoping to dissect this exact scene, and discuss DJ parenting style towards her son. I find the
parenting styles really interesting, specifically the four we discussed in module four and I really
want to focus on that here. Earlier in the course, we discussed Darling four parenting styles and for
some reason, these really stuck with me. The parenting style theory reflects four different types of
parents. Indulgent parents tend to more responsive than they are demanding (Darling) I like to
think of indulgent parents as what todays generation thinks of as cool parents . They tend to be
more lenient and let the child do as they please because they want to avoid confrontation. Darling
also discusses Authoritarian and Authoritative parents which are slightly different. Authoritarian
style parents, are a little over barring. To me, I would consider this style to be a bulldozer parent.
Authoritarian style parents are very demanding and very directive. They expect the child to do what

Selecting Appropriate Books For Children
Selecting Appropriate Books for Children As children interact with their environment and the
people around them, their linguistic, cognitive, social, and emotional abilities develop further.
Through these interactions, children construct knowledge by organizing and classifying the new
knowledge based on prior learning experiences (Brown, Lee, 2012). Vygotsky believed social
interactions influence both intellectual and language development, and he identified social
interactions as the key method in developing new understandings. Therefore, providing books
and reading experiences which include social interactions will enhance literacy development
(Traverse, Traverse, 2008). The purpose of this paper is to explain the importance of possessing
knowledge of child developmental theory when selecting appropriate children s books, and
explain why considering language development, social and emotional response, and cognitive
ability are important. The paper will conclude with issues and insights regarding Reading
Readiness and the impact of gender on book choice. Importance of Knowledge of Theory There
are numerous children s books available for educators to utilize as they create, integrate, and
incorporate reading books into their lessons. When selecting books for students, many factors come
into play. One central component to employ when selecting Children s books is ensuring the book
is developmentally appropriate for the child (Lennox, 2013). In order to select

Martin Luther s Theology Of The Cross
Furthermore, Luther s Theology of the cross helps us to see God incarnate, with us, Emmanuel,
even in the suffering and death of the crucified one, God s only son, Jesus. It is in this suffering
that we know that God is with us. In a very human way, God takes on the fate of the world, to
destroy human flesh through Jesus, the incarnation. God does change, suffer and die. It is God
alone, and nothing we do. God does all the heavy lifting for our sake, and it is a gift. Jesus gives us
an example of someone who loves us so deeply, that he is willing to lay down his life.

Temperature Increase In The Rainforest Ecosystem
1. During a summer day the air temperature goes through the most fluctuations. It is much easier for
the ambient air temperature to increase and decrease rapidly. It takes much longer for the much
denser ground to both heat up and cool down. During the day the sun s radiation heats up the air in
the atmosphere. This happens for many hours and causes large increases in temperature. The air
temperature increases as this occurs, whereas the ground takes much longer. Additionally when the
sun sets the temperature begins to drop. The air temperature drops rapidly, but the ground
temperature does not. This is due to the insulating properties that the ground possesses. Therefore it

Theses similar patterns do not mirror the patterns observed in the summer data. The primary reason
for this is due to the fact that the reduced amount of sun from a lower aspect and less time in the
sky means that both ecosystems don t have time to be affected. Both soil temperatures sit around
the same average since there is no real exposure to sun and both are insulated. The natural density of
dirt and other contributions to the soil insulate it from temperature changes. The air temperature in
both ecosystems fluctuates with the same patterns and are similar. The approaching winter means
that naturally temperatures will go down and the lack of sun is a large factor which causes a

who has the balls stick to try and knock it out and gain possession of the ball. But in girls lacrosse

The Lifestyle Of Romanian Gypsies As An Indigenous Group

In order to understand the lifestyle of Romanian Gypsies as an indigenous group, this paper will
provide insight toward their distinctive subculture, survival means, ability to withstand racial
discrimination and unethical living conditions. Historically, Gypsies have been mistreated and
isolated within various cultural settings. Their societies have a terrible reputation for theft, begging
and lack of schooling, causing a divide amongst the population. Remaining far below the poverty
line, these individuals do whatever it takes to survive.

Mountains of garbage consume their villages and rats run ramped throughout the community. There
is often no running water, sanitation or electricity in these settlements. The poor living conditions
contribute to the negative persona associated with the Roma ethnic group.
Gypsy women resort to prostitution to make a living, children are sent out to pickpocket, beg and
harass European citizens for money, and gypsy men overlook the work of their children (Appendix
C). The gypsy children are smart, but without an education face a reality of poverty and adversity
in Europe. Many as a result resort to a life of crime of their only means of supporting themselves
and their families. Police are unable to arrest children under 14 years of age, working to the
advantage of Gypsy child thieves. The Romanian Gypsy kids wander the streets searching for
money and clothing to steal. For such young individuals, they are ruthless and lack a child like
innocence.
The European community does not tolerate such vile behaviour, resulting in unnecessary violence.
Numerous Gypsy villages have been burned down and destroyed by angry legal residence. Police
brutality is become prominent in communities surrounded by Gypsies. They will confiscate money,
food and material possessions without question and beat Roma Gypsies for unethical reasons.

High in the Andean mountain range, nestled on a ridge between two mountains high above the

It also encourages civic involvement and pride from the people. The tourist industry helps to
provide cultural exchanges between local people and tourists from around the globe. There is also
the immense benefit from the encouragement of and preservation of the celebration of local
festivals and cultural events that might otherwise be lost over time. The final benefit to the social
aspect of Machu Picchu s community is that the tourism industry helps to facilitate the
infrastructure and facilities that are used by tourism (e.g. the railway) and in doing so, it can prove
to also benefit the residents as well (e.g. transportation maintenance and support). (Barcelona Field

Tourism also has its costs/down sides. One of the social costs to the community because of
tourism is that it may attract visitors whose lifestyles and ideas may conflict with the community s
(which commonly happens throughout the world, a good example of this can be seen in the
settling of North America, and the effect it had on the Native Americans). Tourism could also lead
to the overloading of porters which would lead to health problems. A loss of traditional values and

The Myth Of The Ant Queen
While technology is commonly thought of as inventions and gadgets, anything that humans have
developed for specific purposes or to accomplish certain goals, such as methods or models, must
also be correctly categorized as such. In Cathy Davidson s essay Project Classroom Makeover, she
discusses a few unconventional forms of technology such as the educational classroom paradigm
and standardization. Similarly, in Steve Johnson s essay The Myth of the Ant Queen, he presents
procedural technology, such as self organizing systems, and conceptual technology, collaborative
intelligence. He then utilizes another conceptual form of technology, the complexity theory, to
interpret these systems seemingly uncoordinated patterns. Sherry Turkle branches off of Davidson
and Johnson s ideas by discussing the consequences of questioning what makes a robot alive in her
essay Alone Together. This narrative highlights the technology s effect on humans and the reality of
robots either improving or diminishing an individual s quality of life. Besides the slight
apprehension of its future usage, humans are mesmerized by the promising potential technology
presents. Additionally, structural or paradigmatic technology is deeply intertwined and inherent
within society s functioning, making it impossible to separate technology from human existence.
Models and frameworks for systems, also known as paradigms, are innate in all organizations and
push the limits of human creativity, knowledge, and

Individual Sense Of Coherence
The current study elaborates on the experiment conducted by Sansgiry and Kavita (2006) by
seeking to identify if an individuals sense of coherence and coping mechanisms are predictors of
testing anxiety amongst college students. Sense of coherence is considered to be a key faculty
contained with an individual s personality, which responds to a stressful event. Furthermore, an
increased sense of coherence allows an individual to effectively cope with negative events or
outcomes. Participants for this study were given questionnaires prior to the final exam of the
school year, which measured their anxietylevels. Researchers for the experiment compared their
anxiety levels with their final test scores. The outcome of the experiment indicates that students
who utilize emotions to cope with stressful situations had a lower sense of coherence. Alternatively,

Essay about The Zebra Mussel
Populations of the zebra mussel, Dreissena polymorpha (Pallas), were first found in the Laurentian
Great Lakes in 1988 (Hebert et al., 1989). This species is native to the Caspian, Aral, and Black
Seas and the rivers that drain into them but has spread throughout Europe, principally during the
18th century. Since it is restricted to estuarine and freshwater habitats, it is presumed that it was
introduced into North America by ballast waters of transoceanic vessels. Based on the substantial
amount of genetic variation found in these initial populations, as estimated from electrophoretic
variation of allozymes, the colonization of the Great Lakeswas by a large number of immigrants and

This blockage can result in heat damage to power plants and necessitates costly removal or
replacement of intake pipes (Minchin and Moriarty, 1998).
Colonization by zebra mussels has devastating ecological impacts on native bivalves (Mackie,
1991; Haag et al., 1993), frequently driving them to local extinction. Zebra mussels readily, perhaps
preferentially, settle on native bivalves and eventually cover them over. They filter the water so
efficiently that they can lower the amount of suspended food organisms below levels needed to
sustain native unionids.
Their success in spreading rapidly and colonizing new areas is due to two features of zebra mussel
biology. Firstly, zebra mussels produce large numbers ( gt; 30,000 per female) of planktotrophic
veliger larvae which can survive for 10 15 days (Hebert et al., 1989). Such larvae are well suited
for efficient dispersal by water currents, especially in riverine systems. Additionally, they don t
require the presence of suitable host species of fish, as do native unionid larvae. Secondly, the
spread of zebra mussels is aided by their ability to attach to objects by byssal threads (the same
ability that leads to their fouling problems). Because of this ability, adult zebra mussels can attach
to and be spread by ships,

Statistical And Factual Analysis Of Encompassing...
The purpose of my research paper will be to inform the reader with statistical and factual analysis
encompassing Incentives and reward based programs. We will evaluate various incentives to see if
this macroeconomic incentivized/rewards based process does indeed drive business and generate
more growth amongst companies via rewards and loyalty programs towards the general population
of consumers. This analysis surrounding incentives will also be comprised of the price and demand
structures to tie into how companies also utilize their rewards, customer loyalty plans and coupons
during different times of the seasons to boost sales and establish a bond with the ones they are
selling to, the consumers.
U.S. consumers hold 3.3 billion memberships in customer loyalty programs, the 2015 COLLOQUY
Loyalty Census shows, a 26% increase over the number of memberships reported in COLLOQUY
s last census study in 2013 (Colloquy, 2015) With loyalty programs established this helps to
generate a repeat customers which drives profits and promises future revenue. Consumers need an
incentive to purchase a product at a certain place. When Loyalty programs are in place it helps the
consumer relate to the product and funnels them towards the product in which they feel that they
are apart of. They can build exclusive points and incentives when products are purchased and are
then able to use those rewards points at a later time to purchase more goods or even get a portion
of the cash back.

Creativity is the new word and the new value in economy. A class of creative people is replacing
white and blue collars changing the way the world used to define the society in the last centuries.
Creative industries can flourish in dense populated areas where are possible multiple and continued
connections between creative people. Although governments are trying to introduce the teaching of

sometimes suppressed due to the high risk of the investments that creative industries requires.

hundred cars for the public to admire. Projects that go into working with the museum include
archiving both old and new knowledge of cars, filing research away on cars sold after Harrah s
death for new owners, digitizing new information using the computersystem called PastPerfect, and
transcribing the journal of a man to the computer for record keeping. All of these tasks meant

A Walnut Sized Organ
The prostate is a walnut sized organ that is located between behind the pelvic bone. It is distal to
the bladder and rests on the rectum. It helps urine flow out of the body; because of where the
prostate is located it can impair the flow of urine if the organ enlarges. It also secretes fluid that
nourishes and protects the sperm (WebMD). The prostateis located posterior to the pubic
symphysis, inferior to the bladder, and anterior to the rectum. It is covered with three layers of
fascia which are the anterior, lateral, and posterior aspects (Muruve). A normal prostate gland is
said to be approximately 20g in volume, 3.5 cm in length and 4cm wide and 2cm in depth. The
prostate gland is divided into two main parts: the central zone and the thick outer zone which is
called the peripheral zone. There is also a small portion of the gland that is called the transitional
zone. The central zone is the area that surrounds the ejaculatory ducts. About 1 5% of
adenocarcinomas can be found in the prostate gland. The peripheral zone covers that lateral aspects
of the prostate. It contains 70% of glandular tissue (Muruve). The transitional zone consists from
the bladder neck to the membranous urethra. In this zone benign prostatic hyperplasia occurs which
leads to an obstruction of the bladder outlet. Prostate cancerusually shows up in the transitional
zone. Prostate canceris where the cells in the prostate gland start to grow uncontrollably.

How Is Carrie A Universal Fairy Tale
Fairytales are typically interpreted as children s stories about magical and imaginary beings and
lands, but that is often not the case. Many people do not realize that fairytales are very present in
adult literature. These stories are often disguised, and contain topics that appeal to older generations
such as matters of sex and death. The novel, Carrieby Stephen King, is a modern day fairytale that
is perceived as a horror by most readers. Alex. E. Alexander exhibits the idea that Carrie is a
universal fairytale in his critical essay, Carrie a Universal Fairytale . He exemplifies the
characteristics of a fairytale and how Carrie mimics these trends. Novels such as Cinderella and
Rapunzel, contain elements of fairy tales, that Carrie also possesses. Much like Cinderella, the
protagonist, Carrie, goes through a rite of passage, maturation. This thought to bring forth her
supernaturalpower, an element that is evident in Rapunzel. Also in Cinderella, is the presence of an
antagonist adult figure, Carrie s natural mother, but Cinderella s stepmother. The commonalities
between the novel and the stories, prove to the reader that Carrie, although morbid, is truly a
fairytale.
One characteristic of most fairytale s is rights of passage. In stories such as Cinderella, the
protagonist lives through an event that marks an important stage in her life, marriage. For
Carrie, this event was maturation. Alexander explains: Girls in their first period are placed in

common carrier is a private company that sells or leases communication services and facilities to

Therefore, dedicated circuits require more care in network design than switched circuits both in
terms of locations and the amount of capacity you purchase. With packet switched services, the
user again buys a connection into the common carrier cloud. The user pays a fixed fee for the
connection into the network depending upon the type and capacity of the service and is
charged for the number of packets transmitted. 13. Distinguish among T1, T2, T3, and T4
circuits. T1 circuit is sometimes called a DS 1 circuit. It provides a data rate of 1.544 Mbps. T1
circuits can be used to transmit data, but often are used to transmit both data and voice. In this
case, a time division multiplexer (TDM) provides 24 64 Kbps circuits. Digitized voice using
pulse code modulation (PCM) requires a 64 Kbps circuit so T1 circuit enables 24 simultaneous
voice channels. T2 circuit transmits data at a rate of 6.312 Mbps. Basically; it is a multiplexed
bundle of four T1 circuits. T3 circuits allow transmission at a rate of 44.376 Mbps, although
most articles refer to this rate as 45 megabits per second. This is equal to the capacity of 28 T1
circuits. T3 circuits are becoming popular as the transmission medium for corporate MANs and
WANs because of their higher data rates. At low speed, these T3 circuits can be used as 672

Essay On Texas Secession
Governor Sam Houston believed that staying connected with the Union was more beneficial
than detrimental. Because of this, Houston refused to call a meeting to discuss secession, so a
group of avid secessionists organized their own, with the approval of the legislature, instead.
They met in the January of 1861 to vote on whether or not Texas would secede from the Union.
After they voted, it was obvious that the citizens of Texas fully supported secession as the vote
ended up being 166 8 in favor of leaving the Union. So, Texas seceded on February 1, 1861. This
secession was extremely costly on behalf of Texas. It was a hasty, irrational decision that cut

After Texas won its independence from Mexico, it was under a lot of economic stress, and being a
part of the United States alleviated some of those problems by providing a stable economy and a
functioning currency. But after secession, and over the course of the war, the Confederate
currency value dropped to only two and half cents on the dollar . This collapse would have
caused prices to rise to values that would be difficult to pay for on the limited salaries of farmers
and soldiers. As it was, Texas was already an impoverished state before secession, in fact, visitors
often described Texans as tough and honest but also extremely poor. Going through the hardships
of a war only exacerbated the economic problem present in Texas. Soldiers were not making
enough money to pay for their subsistence goods, or provide for their families. As seen in a letter
from a soldier to governor Lubbock, without some assistance from the state we [the soldiers] are

Native American raids were frequent along the Northern border of Texas, and the United States
dedicated several thousand men to Texas specifically to defend against these types of attacks.
Leaving the Union ensured that this assistance would not be available, and that Texans would be

Civil Rights Movement was to end discrimination and prejudice among whites and blacks. Many
African Americans did not have the same rights as Caucasians mainly due to their skin being a

  • 6. Luban s Critique Of Walzer Conception Of Legitimacy In this paper, I will argue that Luban s critique of Walzer conception of legitimacy is misguided. I will first present Walzer s argument for interventions using the legalist paradigm, in particular his conception of self determination and how the principle of non intervention may be set aside in exceptional circumstances. I will then present Luban s critique of Walzer and his argument for developing an account of Just War directly in terms of human rights, before concluding with my own critique of Luban s argument. To begin, it will be useful to outline the legalist paradigm, as Walzer conceives it. This paradigm refers to six propositions: There exists an international society of independent states 2. This international society has a law that establishes the rights of its members above all, the rights of territorial integrity and political sovereignty. 3. Any use of force or imminent threat of force by one state against the political sovereignty or territorial integrity of another constitutes aggression and is a criminal act. 4. Aggression justifies two kinds of violent response: a war of self defense by the victim and a war of law enforcement by the victim and any other member of international society. 5. Nothing but aggression can justify war. 6. Once the aggressor state has been militarily repulsed, it can also be punished. What all these propositions seek to uphold is the sovereignty of states and their ability to self determine their own futures. Aggression is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The issue had been blatantly ignored by Roosevelt during his terms and the Republicans wanted to revise the tariff downward. To do this Taft called Congress to a special session, and the bill was promptly passed, reducing rates. The senate substituted a bill which reduced the number of downward revisions and increased many others. This angered many and so a compromise bill was adopted which moderated the high rates that Aldrich had pushed for. Overall the tariff lowered 650 items, raised 220, and left 1150 unchanged. He became restless to ascertain luck; he went to ride his rocking horse and while riding this wooden horse, his state of mind was entirely changed. He got down from the riding of rocking horse and he stood in front of the horse and commanded him now take me to where there is luck (p 737). • 32. Essay about The Zebra Mussel Populations of the zebra mussel, Dreissena polymorpha (Pallas), were first found in the Laurentian Great Lakes in 1988 (Hebert et al., 1989). This species is native to the Caspian, Aral, and Black Seas and the rivers that drain into them but has spread throughout Europe, principally during the 18th century. Since it is restricted to estuarine and freshwater habitats, it is presumed that it was introduced into North America by ballast waters of transoceanic vessels. Based on the substantial amount of genetic variation found in these initial populations, as estimated from electrophoretic variation of allozymes, the colonization of the Great Lakeswas by a large number of immigrants and not just a few founders... Colonization by zebra mussels has devastating ecological impacts on native bivalves (Mackie, 1991; Haag et al., 1993), frequently driving them to local extinction. Zebra mussels readily, perhaps preferentially, settle on native bivalves and eventually cover them over. They filter the water so efficiently that they can lower the amount of suspended food organisms below levels needed to sustain native unionids. Their success in spreading rapidly and colonizing new areas is due to two features of zebra mussel biology. Firstly, zebra mussels produce large numbers ( gt; 30,000 per female) of planktotrophic veliger larvae which can survive for 10 15 days (Hebert et al., 1989). Such larvae are well suited for efficient dispersal by water currents, especially in riverine systems. Additionally, they don t require the presence of suitable host species of fish, as do native unionid larvae. Secondly, the spread of zebra mussels is aided by their ability to attach to objects by byssal threads (the same ability that leads to their fouling problems). Because of this ability, adult zebra mussels can attach to and be spread by ships, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A common carrier is a private company that sells or leases communication services and facilities to the public. Common carriers often supply a broad range of computer based services, such as the manufacturing and marketing of specialized communication hardware and software. Distinguish among T1, T2, T3, and T4 circuits. T1 circuit is sometimes called a DS 1 circuit. It provides a data rate of 1.544 Mbps. T1 circuits can be used to transmit data, but often are used to transmit both data and voice. In this case, a time division multiplexer (TDM) provides 24 64 Kbps circuits. Digitized voice using pulse code modulation (PCM) requires a 64 Kbps circuit so T1 circuit enables 24 simultaneous voice channels. T2 circuit transmits data at a rate of 6.312 Mbps. Basically; it is a multiplexed bundle of four T1 circuits. T3 circuits allow transmission at a rate of 44.376 Mbps, although most articles refer to this rate as 45 megabits per second. This is equal to the capacity of 28 T1 circuits. T3 circuits are becoming popular as the transmission medium for corporate MANs and WANs because of their higher data rates. Because of this, Houston refused to call a meeting to discuss secession, so a group of avid secessionists organized their own, with the approval of the legislature, instead. They met in the January of 1861 to vote on whether or not Texas would secede from the Union. After they voted, it was obvious that the citizens of Texas fully supported secession as the vote ended up being 166 8 in favor of leaving the Union. So, Texas seceded on February 1, 1861. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Texas won its independence from Mexico, it was under a lot of economic stress, and being a part of the United States alleviated some of those problems by providing a stable economy and a functioning currency. But after secession, and over the course of the war, the Confederate currency value dropped to only two and half cents on the dollar . This collapse would have caused prices to rise to values that would be difficult to pay for on the limited salaries of farmers and soldiers. As it was, Texas was already an impoverished state before secession, in fact, visitors often described Texans as tough and honest but also extremely poor. Going through the hardships of a war only exacerbated the economic problem present in Texas. Soldiers were not making enough money to pay for their subsistence goods, or provide for their families.
