and limitation of CAPM to this industry.

During 1952, Markowitz came out with a theory based on diversified investment is able to
construct the risk averse investors. He diversified investment portfolio theory and efficiency of the
priory rigorous mathematical tools as a means to demonstrate risk averse investors in a number of
risky assets in construct the optimal portfolio methods (Markowitz, 1952).
But due to the existence of some problem, from the early 1960s began, some economists began to
representatives from the empirical perspective, and explore investment securities reality that
Markowitz s theory in reality can be simplified? By building on the theory of Harry Markowitz on
diversification and modern portfolio theory, William F.Sharpe (Sharpe, 1964), John Lintner

Economic Disparity Is The Economic Difference Between...
Economic disparity is the economic difference between people or countries. The reason why
Walkabout relates to economic disparity is because it involves people from two different
environments, lifestyles, culture, religion, economic classes, and education system, in comparison
from Charleston, South Carolina and Australiathe Land Down Under . Starting off with the reason
why the setting of this book leads to the understanding of the gap between poor and the riches, The
setting in Walkabout took place in 1971 in the middle of The Sturt Desert. The unnamed Aboriginal
boy was born and raised in Australian while Peter and Mary was born and raised in South Carolina.
South Carolina is a developed country, meaning advanced in infrastructure, industrialization,
income per capita and standards of living. Also, Australia is similar to South Carolina but the
habitat of The Sturt Desert which has no resources for living beings to survive, instead this area
was something new for the new arrivals Here was something very different from the desert of the
popular imagination; a flowering wilderness. (Pg. 10). People aren t often getting the ability to
travel because they cannot afford the money to buy tickets for their families depending on how
much profit their country provide for each family plus taxes. The Australian desert seem to be as
empty, strange, surreal, terrifying and unknown. Rainfall is unpredictable, which affects the plants

The path to purchase in the automotive category is quite extensive. The vast majority of shoppers
take several months to go from decision to action. During this time, shoppers are using a wide

The Impact Of Cultural Diversity On An Organization
Past experiences have demonstrated that cultural diversity in an organization can lead to issues.
For instance, the implementation of a strategy in a context different from where it has been
created can be difficult, conflicts between subsidiaries and the headquarters can exist, or
management of intercultural teams can be problematic. Walmart in Germany is a relevant
example of the cultural context importance when it comes to HRM. In fact, in 1997 and 1998,
Walmart acquired two companies in Germany but it was a failure. It can be explained by the fact
that feedback of the employees was ignored by managers. For example, in the morning they had
to do exercise while singing the name of the brand. This practice may be a morale booster in the
United States but in Germany it was seen in a really bad way, such as the practice of spying on
colleagues, what can surely be related to the country s history, among others examples. The US
managementpractices was not in accordance with the German cultural context. (Macaray, 2011)
That is why intercultural management cannot be ignored when it comes to the organization
performance, and the universal best practice approach to HRM have to be critically considered
because what is appropriate to a specific environment will not systematically be for another.
Before, intercultural management did not existed. The universalist approach, which is inspired by
the success encountered by Taylor and Ford s concepts until the 1950s, asserts that the

Persuasive Essay On Japanese American Internment
Would you want to be locked up in an internment camp for 3 years? Japanese Americans were
interned for 3 years and lost all of their possessions because of the potential threat they posed of
espionage and tyranny. Japanese Americans were put into internment camps out of an act of racism
by the U.S. people. Japanese Americans were legal citizens at birth. Under the constitution if they
were born in the U.S. than they were by law a legal citizen. They went to programs such as school
just like any other person and they were lawfully a citizen. They were having their rights violated
when the U.S. took the nearly 75,000 American born Japanese Americans to internment camps.

America took all of their stuff besides a few small belongings and forcibly moved all of them to
internment camps. That denies the constitution under the fourth amendment where it specifically
states, No belongings or personal items shall be taken or seized in any way without the proper
search warrant or reason to do so. The U.S. took the stuff of the Japanese Americans without the
proper warrants, so that makes another reason why it was unconstitutional for the U.S. to take the
stuff of the Japanese Americans. Although Japanese Americans rights were violated, people at
this time didn t know if they posed a potential threat to the U.S. or not. For all they knew the
Japanese Americans could have a secret organization dedicated to helping and coordinating
Japanese attacks. The hysteria was there at this time, so it may look like a bad thing now that
they got interned but people didn t know what they were or could be doing. Even though the rights
of Japanese Americans may look like they would have been violated, nowadays back then people
did not know what they were capable

Differences Between Canadian Football And American Football
American vs. Canadian Football
American and Canadian football have many differences but are also very alike. They have the
same roots of play because they are of course both football. The reason they have some differences
are that they are played in different countries. American and Canadian footballhave a few different
concepts that make them different from each other. The first differenceis the field goals. The field
goals are placed in the front side of each endzone as American football has the goal posts in the
back side. The endzones are also ten yards deeper in Canada than in America. Not just the size of
the endzones are different but the whole field in general is different. A Canadian football field is
110 yards long and 65 yards wide. An American field is 100 yards long and 53 yards wide which
is much smaller than a Canadian field. The stadiums in Canada are also much smaller due to less
funding and not having as many fans as American football. American football also has different
teams and team colors which make the stadiums look nothing alike (What). ... Show more content

Reflection Paper On The Odyssey
Thinking about school sometimes hurts, especially about important assessments. Quiz on
Friday for this class, test on Thursday for another class, it s a rough week. It is a Tuesday, and
there were no worries in my mind as I enter school that day. Suddenly, I realized that there was a
language arts test in 1st period! I zoomed to my locker, quickly went to my class, and snagged a
book from the counter and started to study. As I frantically cram in information about The
Odyssey for the test that is anticipated in 10 minutes, I begin to think how I should have studied
the night before. Similarly, I notice many of my other peers doing the same. When the time passed
by 10 minutes, our language arts teacher, Ms. Paschal, informed us that there was no test. Though
having mixed emotions about this, I kept my composure and awaited what was planned for the
day. Ms. Paschal informed, I know you are disappointed that the test was canceled, but instead, we
are going to write a comparative essayon The Odyssey instead. You will choose one book or
movie to compare to The Odyssey. The factor that we are using to compare The Odyssey and
your book or movie is the hero s journey. The class suddenly exchanged worried looks as if the
essay was the end of the world. I thought to myself, Oh, this won t be so bad. I later regretted this
statement.
Later, we then received brainstorming worksheets and a graphic organizer to start on brainstorming
ideas. Having to choose a book to compare with

The Uncanny In Alfred Hitchcock s Vertigo
In The Uncanny, Freud discusses the different definitions and claims that various theorists have
made regarding the feeling of uncanny. He defines the different factors that provoke the uncanny in
humans and demonstrates how these factors elicit that strange and seemingly inexplicable feeling.
Similarly, in Vertigo, Alfred Hitchcock, adopts the various factors that cause the uncanny to alter
Scottie s identity and beliefs. Ultimately, when Scottie is transformed from a rational being to a
psychotic obsessive, it serves to indicate the severity of Scottie s mental instability and his
detachment from reality.
In Vertigo, Hitchcock begins with building credibility and composure in Scottie s character. The

distress and agony. The tone of the frame begins to change colors. It begins with a cool color and
then alternates between colors of opposite temperatures. As Scottie opens his eyes, the camera
cuts to an identical bouquet of flowers, which is one of the defining objects that both Madeline
and Carlotta had. Now that the two are both dead, the reappearance of the flower, which serves
as an indication of either Carlotta s or Madeline s presence, bears an uncanny aura as Scottie and
the viewers are well aware of their deaths. As seen in his facial expression right before the
camera cuts to the image of the flower, the image haunts him by suggesting the imminent return
of the two dead souls. The screen continues to alternate its colors as the flower decomposes until
we see Carlotta standing beside Elster. At first, we only see the silhouette of a man and a woman
but as the color of the frame switches, Elster can be seen more clearly with a woman beside him.
After the camera cuts to a close up of Carlotta s necklace, the woman beside Elster can be

Darfur genocide is being carried out by the Sudanese armed forces and funded Arab militias

estimated to have about 6 million people living there. The conflict started in 2003 and has

Chad. Immediately after the Janjaweed entered the conflict, the rape of women and young girls,

Irony in the Works of Kate Chopin and Guy De Maupassant
Outline and Thesis Introduction Thesis: In the end of the each story, the woman is wholly
undone by the society in which she lives; she is destroyed when she is unable to live up to the
ideal of womanhood that her society dictates. The irony that serves the end of each story is the
final blow, which undoes the woman and finishes her life. Paragraph 1: Story of an Hour as
unhappy marriage Paragraph 2: ironic twist in Story of an Hour Paragraph 3: reason for Louis
Mallard s death Paragraph 4: irony as the cause of death Paragraph 5: The Necklace summary

Chopin and Maupassant Irony is a literary device wherein what the reader expects to occur does
not and the events that transpire are wholly surprising. Authors throughout literary history have
used this devise to surprise and entertain the reader. Kate Chopin and Guy de Maupassant both
utilize irony in their respective short stories The Story of an Hour and The Necklace. In each
story a woman who is believed to be happy in the role of a proper Victorian and thus subservient
female but ironically proves herself to be something other than the ideal woman of that society and
instead is something altogether different. Both Louise Mallard and Mathilde Loisel belong to a
period where woman was to be seen and not heard, to follow the will of their husbands and to

John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
East of Eden is considered a work of literature because of it s many complex characters, insights into
human nature, and use of literary elements to convey universal themes to the reader.
East of Eden is a novel that spans three generations, with a complex cast of characters who each
have their own unique motivations and values. The author, John Steinbeck, builds these characters
through their actions and relations with other characters, and through their actions, develop various
universal themes. Some prevalent themes in East of Eden include the idea of coping with evil, as
well as the idea of personal choice. Cathy Ames, the main antagonist in the novel, is described to

John Steinbeck uses a wide variety of literary devices throughout his novel, most notably, his wide
use of allusions. The two younger generations of the Trask family mirror the biblical tale of Cain
and Abel, both in name and in actions. Cain and Abel is a tale of two brothers, one a farmer, the
other a shepherd, who each offer gifts to god. God chooses Abel s gift over Cain s gift, and in a
jealous rage, Cain murders Abel. God then exiles Cain to the lands east of Eden, where he is
sent to wander. Both generations of Trask brothers mirror the story of Cain and Abel. One
brother is favored above the other, which leads to anger from the sibling cast aside. Adam s
father cast aside Charles in favor of Adam, and Adam, unaware of the similar circumstance, casts
aside Caleb over his more amiable brother, sending him into a jealous rage the same way Adom s
brother had years before. The repeating circumstances convey the insight that history may not
repeat per se, but rather it rhymes. Another major allusion within East of Eden is the title itself.
Cain is sent to the lands east of Eden as his punishment, and so is Charles, who confines himself to
his farm to think over his actions. Caleb finally breaks the cycle, being relieved from his spiritual
wandering by his father. The title contrasts the theme of the novel, which emphasizes human choice
in their fate.

A Teacher Can Impact A Student s Life
Confucius, a famous Chinese teacher said, Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope.
Hope breeds peace. In the previous quote by Confucius, it is obvious that a teacher can impact a
student s life. Moreover (TRANS), the way a teacher generates hope and confidence provide a good
equity at school for the students; therefore, a good teacher spread confidence in students, which
may help them to be encouraged. Maintaining the right balance of strictness and friendliness,
encouraging students, and finding the right teachingmethods for each student are three of the many
characteristics in becoming an inspirational teacher. First, maintaining the right balance of
strictness and friendliness is one of the most impactful factors for a teacher who (AC) tries to have
an appropriate relationship between students. Also, instructors are supposed to follow up with their
students to understand students difficulties and their situation in life. Providing an email address,
phone number, and office hours help students to keep in touch with their instructor. However,
teachers need to keep the balance between friendliness and strictness; moreover, an inspirational
instructor needs to set up some rules for the classroom environment. For example, the instructor
may request students politely that they are not allowed to use their phone during the class because
it distracts them from paying attention to the class and subject. However, instructors should not be
hard for their students

I Am Silent As A Mouse

did not know what to say or do. My children Sam and Elle; both aged 12, just asked me about

Yes, my past! I thought for a minute or two, how long could i hide the horrific truth. Well, they
were old enough to know about the grandparents. Quickly I gathered them both to tell them my
story. My terrifying past! Just before I began I felt a shiver just like 30 years ago. A shiver where it
all started...
It began with you grandparents and me hiding from the Germans. Behind the bookshelf was a
camouflaged, pale, white door where I and my family used to hide for protection. However, one
foggy, windy, cold day the Germans started to destroy everything that was in the house and found
us! I still remember when the door banged opened and the bullets flied like a rocket to the ceiling.
Loudly, they shouted surrender or face the terrible consequence! before we surrendered ourselves
and started to walk I had the family hug. A hug that I yearn for. As time rushed fast, 8 hours later I
reached at the dull, muddy, petrifying camp. The camp that most people talked about. The camp that
crumbled people s lives...
As soon as we got there I got spilt up with my parents. I could never live without my parents, I just

Research Paper On Coal
Coal burning for electrical power is a big industry, but it creates a lot of big problems. Coal is
full of carbon dioxide and burning it releases the CO2 into the atmosphere (Overview of
Greenhouse Gases). The coal mining process creates pollution as well. Rubble and debris can end
up in streams and pollute the water (McQuaid)(Pond et al). However, this pollution can be lessened.
Coalmining and burning is an industry that creates large amounts of air and water pollution, but
with proper regulations such as cap and trade programs and Command and Control government
regulations on mining, the damage created by the industry can be reduced.

Command and Control regulations are when the government makes laws and policies that
businesses and individuals must follow (Kear). It is a compulsory method with legal
repercussions if it is not followed. It involves state and federal regulations, guidelines for
enforcement of policies, guidelines for pollution control, firm punishments, and strict timelines
(Kear). The Command and Control regulations I believe should be applied are government
regulations on coal mining. Mountaintop coal removal should be completely banned. It
completely destroys mountain peaks and negatively affects tourism in an area (McQuaid);
therefore, it should be completely outlawed. Another regulation should be land restoration. While
coal industries are required to perform some restoration under the Surface Mining Control and
Reclamation Act (Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act), more restoration should be
done, and enforcement should be more closely monitored. Coal mining causes deforestation
(McQuaid), and coal companies should be held responsible for the trees cut down. Coal mining
companies should have to plant one new tree for every tree cut down during the mining process.
Another issue is debris. Rubble from coal mining operations can completely block streams
(McQuaid. This should also be banned entirely. If debris blocks a stream, operations should be
shut down until the stream is cleaned. Coal operations should also be responsible for treating the
water near a mining site if it gets contained, as coal mining can pollute the water sources around it
(Pond et al.) Coal mining operations should be held responsible for cleaning up the debris and
pollutants created by their operations. In the same vein, coal burning power plants should be
required to clean the water they use in their pipes. This

All Students Should be Taught Financial Literacy
In school, students are taught about Math, Language, Social Studies, History. We get taught things
that do not apply to the real world. We do not get taught how to save money for our futures and we

which is a problem. As you can see, if we do not learn about this topic at an early age, and it can

Once you learn something at an earlier point in life, it is most likely to stay with you throughout
your whole life. When a baby is born and it hears its family speaking in a certain language, it
then starts to store those words in its brain and also starts to speak that language, that language
is most likely to stay with that kid unless that kid starts to speak 2 languages. And just like that,
when you are taught about financial literacy at a younger age, that information that is given to
you is most likely going to be stored in your brain for most of your life. Not being taught about
financial literacy can lead to having a heart attack, weight gain/loss problems, diabetes, cancer,
high blood pressure, substance abuse, etc. I know a few people that are confused and stressed
about their future jobs, their current jobs, managing bills, etc, and I always ask them what they

Character Analysis Of Irresponsible Dale In Striking Out
Alcoholic, Irresponsible, and manipulative. These traits are of Dale who was a large influence,
but a bad one at that. These traits unfortunately reflect on the other characters within the book
Striking out by Will Weaver. In this book the main characters including Billy Baggs, Heather,
and Gina are all poorly influenced by a antagonistic person, Dale Schwartz, who was not once a
good influence to anyone within the story. Firstly Dale is being his irresponsible self who never
thinks of the consequences of his actions before he does any of them throughout the story. For
example Dale gives minors alcohol without thinking of the consequences. Now, to show just how
foolish he is, when he gives Dany alcohol he then says; I don t know what gets... Show more content

voice sounded funny, like she wasn t herself now . That last quote just goes to show how much
of a poor influence Dale was and how manipulated children to lie for him. After that dale then
threatens children with his rifle and is even condescending to them when he says; You ain t gonna

The For The Denied Boarding Regulations Law
Skeleton Argument:
Arguing for the consumer for the Denied boarding regulations law
Background
Correctly known as the EC regulation 261, however commonly known as the Denied Boarding
Regulation, was established by the European Parliament in February 2004 on behalf of air
passengers throughout the EU. This regulation outlines that air passengers should be financially
compensated if their flight is cancelled , overbooked or additionally if their flight arrives three
hours late or more ; unless the reason is due to extraordinary circumstances beyond the airline s
control. Extraordinary circumstances have been defined by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) as
issues such as; political instability, bad weather, security risks, unexpected... Show more content on

(BBC, 2013:online)
Compensation is reduced by 50% if the ultimate arrival time is within two hours for short haul
flights, within three hours for medium haul flights and within four hours for long haul flights.
(Which, no date:online)
Main points
On reviewing the legislation already in place; If the reason for delay doesn t compromise the
safety of the passengers then it is unfair for the customer to be paying for a service that they are
not receiving and therefore should be compensated for the delay as this delay could have a
detrimental effect on the rest of their trip and could cause them to miss events or connections the
other side.
The introduction of the denied boarding regulation should be seen as an incentive for companies to
make their services more efficient. If they achieve this then in turn they would not have to pay out
compensation for customers as delayed flights would be much less.
Ethics can also be affected due to delayed or cancelled flight. BBC reports of a couple, Robert
Evans and Melissa Taylor who passengers of Thomas Cook flight that s had to sleep on the floor,
no hotel was offered when their flight got cancelled after being delayed for 9 hours previously.

Essay Mapping The Violence in Colombia
Mapping The Violence in Colombia
The peace researcher Johan Galtung proposes a typology of violence, constructed as direct and
indirect, formal informal and visible invisible. Regarding it as a triangle, Galtung (1990) states that
typology of violence corresponds roughly to the ABC levels of the conflict triangle: Attitude,
Behaviour and Contradictions. In the first level Direct violence (acts of violence as such) and in
second and third level underneath the surface; Structural violence and Cultural violence. See figure
below.
The Structural Violence concept by Galtung (1969) asserts that the structure and culture in societies
are a central facet on the explanation of violence; thus, human beings are being influenced so that ...

Therefore, to define violence is a highly intricate process that has taken many decades for social
researchers. Violence is understood differently in the cities than the countryside, in the north and
south, and in places directly affected by conflict (see appendix 1). In general terms, the
characteristics that intersect the general violent map in the whole country can be summed up in
four types; structural, institutional, cultural and interpersonal. Violence and survival are another
two elements to analyse, as citizens have created mechanisms of co existence with violence by
fitting the rules of paramilitary, guerrilla, drug cartels besides the government structural norms.
Therefore, these power agents in the country condition the behaviour of the population living in the
middle of the war.
By applying Galtung s cultural structural violence theories to Colombia, it can be analysed that
references to cultural structural violence in this country can be found from popular culture to
politics. Depicting its reality, TV, soap operas, cinema, journalism, news and literature illustrate
violence as a part of their life where many rough stories are told and some are still happening. The
vox populi says that everyone in Colombia has been exposed to a violent incident either that has
happened to them or somebody close. Inside Colombia, its people see themselves as a disorganised
state with diverse confrontations. In addition, popular culture references

Effects Of Children On Inner Cities
Introduction: Our main points are to help younger children in inner cities, help schools put
programs together, and help structure kids lives. The way we will do this is to have after school
sport programs. We also would help raise money and try to teach children the fundamentals of being
an adult through sports. Group Problem Statement
Background:
Many students every year are forced to leave school and have nowhere to go. With many of
these children in grades 1st 12th, the reason they have nowhere to go is because their parents are
too poor for them to be able to pay for them to have a plan after school if the parents cannot make
it. This has been a problem for many years and as poverty rises, it is only happening more. Many of

Desired State:
The number one goal is to make sure that all kids have somewhere to go after school. With financial
struggles of many schools this may be difficult, but with the help of each community it will not be
impossible. Structuring things for these kids now, will only help the children live a more structured
life later. It will ensure that these children are staying in better hands rather than the people they
might meet that negatively influence them. Stakeholders:
First and foremost, Parents. They are probably the most important people who would be
concerned about their children and the after school programs they take. The fact that most people,
mainly young children, are having a constantly increasing interest in sports is enough of a reason
to increase the amount of after school programs offered by these schools. Although, most parents
concerns seem to be concentrated on the safety and efficiency of these after school programs.
Schools are obviously interested in the effects of these programs, but are also the ones who will
be the most supportive along with the parents. A school s main focus would also be divided into
the general interest of the students and whether they would interested enough to sign up for these
programs, along with the safety it provides for them, and the overall effects of after school
programs. The main focus of the concern of the stakeholders in this situation is how the general
program would eventually work

El NiГ±o In Spanish
El NiГ±o implies The Little Boy, or Christ Child in Spanish. El NiГ±o was initially perceived by
anglers off the shore of South America in the 1600s, with the presence of curiously warm water
in the Pacific Ocean. The name was picked taking into account the season of year (around
December) amid which these warm waters occasions had a tendency to happen. Meteorologists
utilize the term El NiГ±o alludes to the expansive scale sea environment atmosphere
communication connected to an intermittent warming in ocean surface temperatures over the

Eudemonia By Alan Paton Essay
In ancient times the Greeks believed every child was born with a daemon, a personal spirit guide
and nature spirit that was the embodiment of the best person they could be . It is from the belief
of the daemon born within everyone that the concept known as Eudemonia was created.
Eudemonia is the philosophy of human well being and happiness as well as Aristotle s belief
that it is a life of activity guided by reason. However, although what Aristotle says eudemonia is
desirable it simply does not say anything at all. The desire to live an ideal life of reason and virtue
is in fact something everybody wishes for, there is no guideline to map out what must be done. This
brings up the question of what humans must do in order to obtain eudemonia... Show more content

This quote provides solid evidence about how unintentionally corrupt the government has become

stems back to the philosophy of eudemonics and whether or not humans are actually capable of

In addition, in order to further solicit any feelings of understanding within the audience, Paton
also uses powerful imagery. Going back to the very first chapter of the novel s where Paton

Bhopal Gas Tragedy Who is responsible? It was a normal day in Bhopal the heart of India.
Fathers coming back from work, mothers cooking dinner for the family, some kids studying and

dreams. Kids dreaming of their games the next day, pregnant ladies dreaming of the fast
approaching days when their babies would be born into this world, worker fathers dreaming of
saving more money for their kids secure futures. What happened in the midst of that night is
beyond anybody s imagination. A poisonous gas leaked from a pesticide factory and covered the
whole city in its thick blanket of deadly gas. For many who slept that night, they never saw
another morning. You think that is bad? For a lot many who escaped death met with an even
more pathetic future when they were crippled for life some went blind, some had major skin
and lung diseases and many had genetic deformation. And that s not even the worst. Even thirty
years after the incident, people are still facing the consequences of the gas leak. Many babies
born suffer from genetic disorders if at all they are not still born. God knows up to what
generation this is going to continue. It was around 1 am on the 3rd of December, 1986 that the

Roosevelt has often been criticized for what many believe was misguided faith in the devious
leader of the Soviet Union. However, even before World War II began, Roosevelt had no illusions
of what Stalin was and what he represented believing that the Soviet Union was run by a
dictatorship as absolute as any other dictatorship in the world (483). Furthermore, Roosevelt
only considered allying with Stalin after his personal advisor Harry Hopkins assured him of
Stalin s resolve to fight the Germans till the end. It is therefore not Stalin s ideology that
Roosevelt put his faith in, but instead trusted in Stalin s desire to do everything in his power to
keep his own country from the Germans. More than anything it seems that Roosevelt saw Stalin
as a way to achieve his short of war strategy, supporting Stalin and his army was a way to defeat
or weaken German forces without direct American support. Even this seemingly small show of
faith in Stalin angered many Americans who believed that since Stalin had made a deal with
Hitler once, there was nothing stopping him from abandoning the ally cause once the opposition
made him a better deal (484). However, Roosevelt recognized Stalin for what he was: a man with

The Three Components Of Robert Sternberg s Theory Of Love
The triangular theory of love is a theory of loved developed by psychologist Robert Sternberg.
Presented in 1985, Sternberg was a member of the Psychology Department at Yale University.
During his time as a professor, Sternberg emphasized his research in the fields of intelligence,
creativity, wisdom, leadership, thinking styles, ethical reasoning, love, and hate. In the context of
interpersonal relationships, the three components of love, according to the triangular theory, are an
intimacy component, a passion component, and a decision/commitment component. ^(5)
There are three components of love as follows:
Passion: Passion can be associated with either physical arousal or emotional stimulation. Passion is
defined in three ways:
A strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something^
A strong feeling (such as anger) that causes people to act in a dangerous way
strong sexual or romantic feeling for someone
Intimacy: Intimacy is described as the feelings of closeness and attachment to one another. This
tends to strengthen the tight bond that is shared between those two individuals. Additionally,
having a sense of intimacy helps create the feeling of being at ease with one another, in the sense
that the two parties are mutual in their feelings. Intimacy is primarily defined as something of a
personal or private nature; familiarity.^
Commitment: Unlike the other two blocks, commitment involves a conscious decision to stick with
one another.

The Importance Of Public Space
The term public space is used in reference to an area or place that is regarded as accessible to all,
irrespective of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age or socio economic background. These are
spaces where the public can come together for example parks and squares. Spaces that transit
communities around the cities are also regarded as public spaces as in pavements and streets. It is
usually a place in a particular physical location that creates social ties and it s referred about as an
urban setting. Public spaceas a concept has given rise to many intellectual discussions within a
variety of disciplines including politics, philosophy, sociology, literature, history, political science,
communication and architecture. Ever since the ancient Greek Agora people have been excluded
from public spaces. The Greeks banned women, slaves and those visiting the city from other
countries. In modern cities, we look to ban or make it difficult for groups that are felt would break
perceived codes of conduct within our public spaces. This has led to areas being designed with

  • 6. The Impact Of Cultural Diversity On An Organization Past experiences have demonstrated that cultural diversity in an organization can lead to issues. For instance, the implementation of a strategy in a context different from where it has been created can be difficult, conflicts between subsidiaries and the headquarters can exist, or management of intercultural teams can be problematic. Walmart in Germany is a relevant example of the cultural context importance when it comes to HRM. In fact, in 1997 and 1998, Walmart acquired two companies in Germany but it was a failure. It can be explained by the fact that feedback of the employees was ignored by managers. For example, in the morning they had to do exercise while singing the name of the brand. This practice may be a morale booster in the United States but in Germany it was seen in a really bad way, such as the practice of spying on colleagues, what can surely be related to the country s history, among others examples. The US managementpractices was not in accordance with the German cultural context. • 7. Persuasive Essay On Japanese American Internment Would you want to be locked up in an internment camp for 3 years? Japanese Americans were interned for 3 years and lost all of their possessions because of the potential threat they posed of espionage and tyranny. Japanese Americans were put into internment camps out of an act of racism by the U.S. people. Japanese Americans were legal citizens at birth. Under the constitution if they were born in the U.S. than they were by law a legal citizen. They went to programs such as school just like any other person and they were lawfully a citizen. They were having their rights violated when the U.S. took the nearly 75,000 American born Japanese Americans to internment camps. Their rights were violated so what the U.S. did was an unlawful act against the constitution.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... America took all of their stuff besides a few small belongings and forcibly moved all of them to internment camps. That denies the constitution under the fourth amendment where it specifically states, No belongings or personal items shall be taken or seized in any way without the proper search warrant or reason to do so. The U.S. took the stuff of the Japanese Americans without the proper warrants, so that makes another reason why it was unconstitutional for the U.S. to take the stuff of the Japanese Americans. Although Japanese Americans rights were violated, people at this time didn t know if they posed a potential threat to the U.S. or not. For all they knew the Japanese Americans could have a secret organization dedicated to helping and coordinating Japanese attacks. The hysteria was there at this time, so it may look like a bad thing now that they got interned but people didn t know what they were or could be doing. Quiz on Friday for this class, test on Thursday for another class, it s a rough week. It is a Tuesday, and there were no worries in my mind as I enter school that day. Suddenly, I realized that there was a language arts test in 1st period! I zoomed to my locker, quickly went to my class, and snagged a book from the counter and started to study. As I frantically cram in information about The Odyssey for the test that is anticipated in 10 minutes, I begin to think how I should have studied the night before. Similarly, I notice many of my other peers doing the same. When the time passed by 10 minutes, our language arts teacher, Ms. Paschal, informed us that there was no test. Though having mixed emotions about this, I kept my composure and awaited what was planned for the day. Ms. Paschal informed, I know you are disappointed that the test was canceled, but instead, we are going to write a comparative essayon The Odyssey instead. You will choose one book or movie to compare to The Odyssey. The factor that we are using to compare The Odyssey and your book or movie is the hero s journey. The class suddenly exchanged worried looks as if the essay was the end of the world. I thought to myself, Oh, this won t be so bad. I later regretted this statement. John Steinbeck uses a wide variety of literary devices throughout his novel, most notably, his wide use of allusions. The two younger generations of the Trask family mirror the biblical tale of Cain and Abel, both in name and in actions. Cain and Abel is a tale of two brothers, one a farmer, the other a shepherd, who each offer gifts to god. God chooses Abel s gift over Cain s gift, and in a jealous rage, Cain murders Abel. God then exiles Cain to the lands east of Eden, where he is sent to wander. Both generations of Trask brothers mirror the story of Cain and Abel. One brother is favored above the other, which leads to anger from the sibling cast aside. Adam s father cast aside Charles in favor of Adam, and Adam, unaware of the similar circumstance, casts aside Caleb over his more amiable brother, sending him into a jealous rage the same way Adom s brother had years before. The repeating circumstances convey the insight that history may not repeat per se, but rather it rhymes. Another major allusion within East of Eden is the title itself. Cain is sent to the lands east of Eden as his punishment, and so is Charles, who confines himself to his farm to think over his actions. Caleb finally breaks the cycle, being relieved from his spiritual wandering by his father. The title contrasts the theme of the novel, which emphasizes human choice in their fate. ... Moreover (TRANS), the way a teacher generates hope and confidence provide a good equity at school for the students; therefore, a good teacher spread confidence in students, which may help them to be encouraged. Maintaining the right balance of strictness and friendliness, encouraging students, and finding the right teachingmethods for each student are three of the many characteristics in becoming an inspirational teacher. First, maintaining the right balance of strictness and friendliness is one of the most impactful factors for a teacher who (AC) tries to have an appropriate relationship between students. Also, instructors are supposed to follow up with their students to understand students difficulties and their situation in life. In the first level Direct violence (acts of violence as such) and in second and third level underneath the surface; Structural violence and Cultural violence. See figure below. Violence is understood differently in the cities than the countryside, in the north and south, and in places directly affected by conflict (see appendix 1). In general terms, the characteristics that intersect the general violent map in the whole country can be summed up in four types; structural, institutional, cultural and interpersonal. Violence and survival are another two elements to analyse, as citizens have created mechanisms of co existence with violence by fitting the rules of paramilitary, guerrilla, drug cartels besides the government structural norms. Therefore, these power agents in the country condition the behaviour of the population living in the middle of the war. By applying Galtung s cultural structural violence theories to Colombia, it can be analysed that references to cultural structural violence in this country can be found from popular culture to politics. Depicting its reality, TV, soap operas, cinema, journalism, news and literature illustrate violence as a part of their life where many rough stories are told and some are still happening. The vox populi says that everyone in Colombia has been exposed to a violent incident either that has happened to them or somebody close. • 28. Effects Of Children On Inner Cities Introduction: Our main points are to help younger children in inner cities, help schools put programs together, and help structure kids lives. The way we will do this is to have after school sport programs. We also would help raise money and try to teach children the fundamentals of being an adult through sports. Group Problem Statement Background: Many students every year are forced to leave school and have nowhere to go. With many of these children in grades 1st 12th, the reason they have nowhere to go is because their parents are too poor for them to be able to pay for them to have a plan after school if the parents cannot make it. This has been a problem for many years and as poverty rises, it is only happening more. Many of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Desired State: The number one goal is to make sure that all kids have somewhere to go after school. With financial struggles of many schools this may be difficult, but with the help of each community it will not be impossible. Structuring things for these kids now, will only help the children live a more structured life later. It will ensure that these children are staying in better hands rather than the people they might meet that negatively influence them. Stakeholders: First and foremost, Parents. They are probably the most important people who would be concerned about their children and the after school programs they take. The fact that most people, mainly young children, are having a constantly increasing interest in sports is enough of a reason to increase the amount of after school programs offered by these schools. Although, most parents concerns seem to be concentrated on the safety and efficiency of these after school programs. Schools are obviously interested in the effects of these programs, but are also the ones who will be the most supportive along with the parents. A school s main focus would also be divided into the general interest of the students and whether they would interested enough to sign up for these programs, along with the safety it provides for them, and the overall effects of after school programs. The main focus of the concern of the stakeholders in this situation is how the general program would eventually work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Eudemonia By Alan Paton Essay In ancient times the Greeks believed every child was born with a daemon, a personal spirit guide and nature spirit that was the embodiment of the best person they could be . It is from the belief of the daemon born within everyone that the concept known as Eudemonia was created. Eudemonia is the philosophy of human well being and happiness as well as Aristotle s belief that it is a life of activity guided by reason. However, although what Aristotle says eudemonia is desirable it simply does not say anything at all. The desire to live an ideal life of reason and virtue is in fact something everybody wishes for, there is no guideline to map out what must be done. Roosevelt has often been criticized for what many believe was misguided faith in the devious leader of the Soviet Union. However, even before World War II began, Roosevelt had no illusions of what Stalin was and what he represented believing that the Soviet Union was run by a dictatorship as absolute as any other dictatorship in the world (483). Furthermore, Roosevelt only considered allying with Stalin after his personal advisor Harry Hopkins assured him of Stalin s resolve to fight the Germans till the end. It is therefore not Stalin s ideology that Roosevelt put his faith in, but instead trusted in Stalin s desire to do everything in his power to keep his own country from the Germans. More than anything it seems that Roosevelt saw Stalin as a way to achieve his short of war strategy, supporting Stalin and his army was a way to defeat or weaken German forces without direct American support. Even this seemingly small show of faith in Stalin angered many Americans who believed that since Stalin had made a deal with Hitler once, there was nothing stopping him from abandoning the ally cause once the opposition made him a better deal (484).
