This document provides an overview of crisis intervention techniques discussed in Chapter Four. It covers open-ended and closed-ended questions, restatement and clarification, owning feelings, and facilitative listening. It also discusses the crisis worker's role in various stages of intervention including encouraging exploration, assessment, and commitment. The crisis worker's approach should shift from directive to collaborative to nondirective as the client's mobility increases. Hospitalization may be necessary if the client poses a danger or is experiencing severe symptoms.
