The ratios often compare financial statement data with stock market trading information for publicly traded companies. Financial ratios are an important tool of economic decision-making for all businesses. . It is important to choose financial ratios that are applicable to the business at hand. There are hundreds of financial ratios available, some of which apply to all businesses and some of which are industry-specific. Financial ratios were estimated from annual reports and financial statements i.e. Income statement and Balance sheet for the period of 2008 to 2011. Twelve financial ratios were estimated to measure these performances in term of profitability, liquidity, risk and solvency, capital adequacy. To determine the significance of mean differences of these ratios, Independent sample t-test and ANOVA was used between and among banks. The study concluded that Islamic banks proved to be more liquid, less risky and operationally efficient than conventional banks

Presentation: Isolation and Characterization of Bacteria from Tropical Soils
The purpose of this experiment is to encounter bacteria from tropical soils that have the capability of producing antibiotic. In order to do so, it was necessary to isolate the bacteria, purify it five times and freeze it at a temperature of -80˚C. After purification, gram staining was performed to classify the bacteria as gram positive or negative. The bacteria were characterized by doing purification of genomic DNA and then, a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) with the primers 16sRNA, 16S_1510R and 16S_8F. An electrophoresis was conducted to see if the PCR process went well. The PCR product was purified and analyzed by using Bioinformatics. Finally, both bacteria’s S15UPRCRISENRE30M01 and S15UPRCRISEAFD30M01A had positive results as antibiotic producers for M.luteus.

Rivera Espinal 4Rd Seminar The tropical healing forest: the epicenter of natural medicines by: Dr. Eloy Rodríguez, Ph.D. Cornell University In this seminar medicinal plants played a huge role on how they can be administered to humans and found in tropical areas such as forests. Also, it discussed how technologies have evolved to combat infectious diseases and how animals by instinct or learned behavior self-medicate. On the other hand, Dr.Rodriguez introduced a problem solving challenge related to cyclopia, which is a disease that affects fetal development caused by the medicinal plant Veratrum californicum because of its molecular mechanism, teratogen. Consequently, the replication of DNA by the mRNA is stopped in the cell resulting in cyclopia. In addition, the second case presented the relation between the liver and pancreas in order to carry digestion using insulin. These were important facts because help on understanding that people are not aware of how elements in different plants work and can affect certain capabilities in the immune system, addressing health disparities of some communities . Finally, this research provides a new perspective on treating diseases that can potentially become worldwide disasters.
