Working Title: Kidnapped
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Product’s Purpose: Entertainment – plans are that the student film will be about a teenager and his
kidnapped little brother. He will have to go a long way to find his brother and is tested to see what he’ll
do to see him again. Suspense and tension will keep the viewer drawn in. in this Thriller/Crime film.
Other content for the production includes a script, a storyboard and a poster. I had chosen to follow
this route as it came to me while thinking of ideas for a crime/thriller, I put it together in my head, I
made the story on the spot, I imagined my friend’s acting in the film, the dialogue that they’d read off
the script and the poster I’d make to represent the film
What is the product’s purpose (entertain/educate etc.) and how will you achieve this?
Genre: In this Thriller/Crime film. The main characters brother is taken, hence the crime genre is
necessary and the thriller comes from the tension that is built from the action, dialogue and music. I
chose to work with these genres because I thought it would be interesting to make products like this.
The story matches the thriller side of it by having a sudden disappearance and other shocks while the
crime genre works with the investigation that the main character is doing. While writing the script I will
make the dialogue for the main character seem aggressive and hurrying since he wants to waste no
time finding his brother
What sort of product is it
Content: There will be many different elementsto my production on this film; the film is not all of the
production, other features include a trailer, a full annotated storyboard, sections of a script and a
poster. If by chance there is time for other products to be made I might try and make alternative
posters, to try and capture different elements of the film while maintaining the tone. I .e. have posters
of the main character in different locations looking for his brother. This way people can get a glimpse
of some of the locations in the movie. I’ve decided to make these extras rather than anything else
because it makes sense to make more posters instead of extra footage or a longer script since it would
be easier and take less time.
What is your product about? Discuss what you would put in it (be specific). Does it have a story? If so, discuss
it here
Research & Planning: Researching films in the same genre of mine helps me identify the aspects of
those films that people like so I can incorporate them into my FMP. The questionnaire that I sent out
also helped me know my audience and what they expect from films like this. This information will help
me choose a colour scheme, poster design and length of my trailer. Currently I am thinking of
producing my poster with a black, white and red colour scheme. The imagery would be of the main
character, and his brother one side of the poster would be all white, the other side black and the
characters would both be red to highlight them to stand out and catch people’sattention.
Where will you use elements of your research and planning to influence and inform your final idea (be specific
to certain parts)
Audience: I would say my target audience are mostly young adults & adults aged from 17-40. My film is
not very light hearted so that may put a lot of people off from watching it, it is for all genders and any
social status as long as they can afford to see it in cinemas and if they have access to YouTube to
watch the trailer. I think that the psychographic group that will most likely enjoy my product are the
Needs Driven group; they act upon instinct and impulse which is very much like the main character in
this film, and also are impulse buyers which means they might be happy paying to see my film in
cinemas. The reason for such a high age group would be because of the contents of the film, if I aim to
make the film a 16+ or even an 18+ that allows me to show more mature content since the story is
about a kidnapper and a missing child. I would put warnings for the age ratings on the poster and at
the start of the film before it starts to notify people in case they are easily disturbed.
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc
Why would your project appeal to this person?
Legal & Ethical Considerations: As explained, my idea for my FMP is not that light-hearted, therefore it
is not for everyone, I don’t think that my film will be enjoyed by children of the ages (0-14). The content
of the film is more rated 16 and aimed to be dramatic and life-like rather than comedic and animated.
Because of this I feel that I can add more scenes that are not considered for people of that age.

Obviously I will still stray away from including offensive material and obviously keep anything that one
might find racist or prejudice far away from the film. The dark tones of the film might put people off
watching it but that is their choice of favoured genres and as I mentioned before there will be warnings
on posters and trailers for people who are sensitive to products like this. All names and characters in
the film are original and made up, to ensure there is no actor/actress with the same names I did my
research and found no other matches. Company logos may be seen in the background in shops or on
actors clothing but we will try keep this to a minimum and see what we can do to ensure we aren’t sued
for copyright infringement other than that, the logo for my franchise that would be on the posters will
be made my me and will refrained from stealing ideasor trademarks.
Think about any offensive material you will include?
Will you restrict younger people using/accessing it?
Will it offend any social groups/religions/ethnicities?
How will you ensure you do not offend anyone?
Are you using characters/names/logos of existing products/IPs?
Will you product be sufficiently different from existing products to not get sued for copyright infringement?
