Media Evaluation Question 4 & 5
Question 4:Who would be the audience for your media product?
Our target audience for The Trojan Complex was group D2 Group D was the 16-34. We chose this
group since we wanted to attract a younger audience. After doing some extensive research we found
out that most people between 16-34 were more likely to watch action films. We also wanted to try
attract an audience that could have a larger and more expansive imagination and we thought it
would be best that we go with the younger audience to allow them to potentially create there own
theories and ideas about the characters in our film.
In addition to this we all felt that the younger audience would be more likely to go to the cinemas
with friends or family which is another factor as to why we chose this group. We also felt that
overall the action genre in modern day appeals more to the younger generation who want to be
thrilled as they watched a film, whereas people between the ages of 35-50 may prefer to go and
watch a romantic film or a comedy film.
Question 5:How did you attract/address your audience?
When doing research and planning we thought a range of different ways that we could potentially
get answers from our target audience. The first thing we wanted to do was to conduct a
questionnaire with a range of different questions to try and get a good idea of what people may
want. By doing this it allowed us to see what we should include within the first 2 opening minutes
and we took all the answers given and put them into graphs to try and see what were the most
popular answers. We found out mainly about the camera shots and the different conventions that
should be included within the first 2 opening minutes. By doing this it allowed to give the best
possible chance of attracting our target audience.
Furthermore after looking at our answers that we got from the questionnaires we did find out a
range of different things as I have already stated most people expected to see fast shots to try and
create a fast paced, high tension action film. We also found out that people expected to see a range
of different special effects including things like CGI which is heavily used in some of the big
blockbuster films like Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
In addition to this we also made sure that people understood the film. If we did not attract the
appropriate audience then people would not want to watch our film. During the process of audience
research we wanted to try and make sure that we could leave suspense within the audience so they
question the overall plot and meaning of the film. Therefore when filming we thought it would be
best to have Agent 37 walk of into the distance at the end of the first 2 opening minutes, this again
could spark the imagination of our audience as they may be able to create the story themselves
which is why we chose a younger audience as the younger audience may have a better imagination
and may create there own story about Agent 37. In addition to this we also made the identity of
Agent 37 unknown, this would attract the audience even more as they want to know more about
Agent 37 and the only way to do that would be to watch the whole film.
When we were making our film we took into consideration all the things that the audience. During
our questionnaires that we handed out to people to fill out they put a range of different things. These
included fighting which is something that was in our film as during the first 2 opening minutes
Agent 37 and Arthur Smith engage in hand to hand combat. They also wanted to see guns during
the film which is used in our film, again showing that we took all the things suggested into
consideration. Finally our audience also wanted to have a protagonist who was heroic and brave,
these traits are portrayed within the character of Agent 37.
Finally there also a few things that we needed to take into consideration when creating our first 2
opening minutes. We needed to have a good narrative throughout the first 2 opening minutes which
would build tension towards the end of the first 2 opening minutes we did. For example the fight
sequence and chase scene between Agent 37 and Arthur builds up a lot of tension for the audience
as it keeps the audience on their toes and makes them wonder if Agent 37 is going to be able to kill
Arthur Smith.
