Working Title: The Teleporter
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the
Audience Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section.
Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to
content (why would your product appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the
gender? Etc.)
The age range for my product will be from teenage yearsto adult as this product doesn’t
necessarily target a specific age range but I want to keep it aligned with what my secondary
research came up with. The exact age range will be 15-54 just to keep what I want and what
the secondary research had recommended I use teenagers because the film focuses on
teenagers and is set in a college and older people was only chosen as they seem to enjoy
comedies much more than any other age range. For gender I would say that its appealed to
boys mainly as it is mostly a sci-fi film and boys typically, enjoy this genre much more than
women but, they are free to watch it if they want. Comedy is more something that both
genders can enjoy so; I will appeal to women as well but, the use of sci-fi maybe a bit of a
turn off for them if they don’t enjoy it. The social status that I will appeal to is ABC1, which
is lower class to upper class. I chose them because they are the general populaces and this
makes it easier for me to advertise my product. This way, my product would sell easier. It
would also appeal to a larger audience. The psychographic that I will mainly target is the
belonger psychographic as they enjoy the things that they like and don’t stray too far from
them either. This is good for my product as it is a sci-fi film and people who are belongers
to the sci-fi genre would definitely give it a try as well as people who belong to the comedy
genre because it works the same way here. This product appeals to both sexualities, as my
product doesn’t contain anything to do with sexuality so, it doesn’t matter if you’re
homosexual or heterosexual which also broadens the audience quite significantly, which is
good for my product. Location wise, it doesn’t really matter that much but, it would
probably appeal to people living in Britain more as it is a film made by British students and
it does contain some relatable comedy moments which would appeal more to this audience
as people living in say America, wouldn’t understand the humour that much.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Review your progress throughout the year- what skills and knowledge have you acquired?
How has the subjects you have studied this year informed your choice for this project?
What have you studied and how will it have a direct impact upon your project?
So far, this year, I have acquired some new skills in Photoshop, which is good for
designing Photoshop work and helping out with some new designs for future work. These
things include the fact that I can design some better work, which, can work for this project
because I can use some pretty creative designs and some nice overall archetypes to use
when filming. I also picked up some premiere skills which mainly revolves around the fact
that I can actually use it pretty well however, I did learn how to reverse clips and alter the
sound for them as well. This can be incorporated into the film editing process if I need it,
which will definitely help with this product. I also learnt one or two camera tricks for filming
stuff which won’t necessarily be useful as I am acting in my piece so, I wont need to check
the camera at all.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make?
What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project/
The concept for my project is a comedy, sci-fi film about a duo of guys who get their hands
on a teleporting device and decide to use it to play games with each other however, it ends
up becoming something used to commit small crimes such as stealing and this doesn’t
bode too well with his friend who tells him to stop but, he ends up hitting him which results
in the two of them realising that it would only cause the two of them a great deal of pain so,
they both decide to ditch it all though, it is picked up by two more people. The research I
Proposal

need to conduct is going to be linked to gathering similar videos and reviewing them to see
what kind of comedy films people are making and try to use them to see the pros and cons
of each one. This will help me make a better product overall as I can see what people are
enjoying and incorporate that into my own work. I also used the research to study what
type of people enjoy comedy films which, led me to learn that they seem to be in the age
ranges of 25-50 and that they are mostly malesas well. I also used a survey to get some
primary research from my peers which, gave me an idea on what sort of comedy films they
enjoy and I can alter the story to meet that.
Production Techniques (approx. 150 words)
What specialist techniques do you need to consider? (e.g. green screen, Steadicam, post-
production, sound, etc)
Does this require any specialist equipment/training/demos?
The equipment I need for this project is an audio recorder, a Steadicam and Adobe
Premiere. The specialist techniques that I can consider for the audio work which involves
recording sounds using an audio recorder as all the sounds need to be recorded after the
film is made. The sounds that I currently plan on recording are footsteps, door creaking,
books falling on the floor, punch/slap sound, teleporting sound, “Time is running out”,
heavy breathing and knocked over sound. The techniques I plan on using for the Steadicam
are going to revolve around the camera anglesand shot types. The shots I plan on using
are the long-shot, medium-shot, close up-shot, over the shoulder-shot, extreme close up-
shot and establishing shot. I also plan on using focus as it allows me to place emphasis on
certain parts of the footage such as facial expressions, people and items that appear in the
film. For post-production I plan on adding in the right clips to the premiere file in the correct
order and if need be, edit them down to a substantial length while also trying to fit the video
into the 60-90 second time slot. I’ll also use the post-production to add the audio files to the
places where they need to be while also using some of the effects that premiere has to
offer. Visual colour effects and some audio effects as well. I don’t plan on using green
screen as my product won’t need a location that I don’t have access to and the green
screen may be obvious for the viewer which can affect the immersion the film has; it’ll bring
the viewer out of the experience. The short film will require no special training or demos as
it won’t have the actors do anything stunt wise or anything dangerous; it is a comedy short
film after all. The short film will have most likely not have any practice runs and we will just
jump straight into it.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation and your final
self-reflection, analysing your work and its outcomes.
I plan on evaluating my work by firstly; reviewing the planning to see how effective it is,
recalling how much time I spent on the entire project and looking at my research to see
how much it helped with my project. I’ll follow it up by reviewing the finished product and
comparing it to pre-existing short film; discussing both the similarities and the differences.
I will then talk about the strengths and weaknesses of the short film that I made to see if the
product is really any good. I will then discuss how my planning and research helped my
final product and look at how the concept has changed over time. Afterwards, I will get my
peers to look at the product and review it before writing how I feel about the results and
what I would change about the product.
