Josh Bailey created an RPG video game for a class project. He found his research on other RPG games from the 8-bit, 16-bit, and 64-bit eras to be very helpful for designing gameplay and coming up with ideas. His planning process mapped out all aspects of production thoroughly, though he could have improved his time management. Feedback praised the animation, character design, use of color, and fire effects, but suggested adding more scenes, audio, variable locations, and improving the walking sequence.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. Research
I found my research to be very helpful and vital to the design and gameplay
that I was planning on using for my game. I was able to look into other games
and gain ideas of how they look and feel, I struggled with picking just three
games to use for my research PowerPoint as there are so many great RPG
video games, specifically from the 8bit, 16bit and 64bit era of gaming.
My research aids me in being creative and lending ideas to the final product,
whilst also giving me a position to start from. These are clear strengths, as
they contributed heavily. Meanwhile, some weaknesses could include being
too restrictive in what I wanted to create (since the research informed my
product significantly) or a lack of diversity in types of games researched.
However, I feel this improved my product overall by keeping it focused.
3. Planning
I believed the planning I did for this project was very helpful in separating each
step I need to do. I felt that it was thorough and quite informative in
completing my project, as I never felt lost or confused about what to do.
Managing to map out all aspects of production helped me focus. These are all
considerable strengths of my planning.
If I could have improved one part of my planning, it would be my time
management. I think I could have allocated my time better instead of
prioritising my planning completely.
4. Time Management
• Overall, I think that my time was managed well. As stated earlier, although
I may have spent too much time on planning, I feel other areas were
managed effectively.
• I believe that my time was used well in pre-production for the most part
was fine. I spent what I feel to be a worthwhile amount of time on it. Post-
production was also handled well
• Despite this, my main drawback was in production. In total, I think I spent
too much time on this part of the project.
5. Technical Qualities
Throughout my product, I believe I was able to create something with a
reasonably good approximation of other video games. I felt that the
graphics had a nice aesthetic that looked similar to the games that
influenced mine. The designs I used were unique and individual enough to
stand apart from each other and all had an intriguing design.
The layout was well done in my opinion, as I feel that it was a good
simulation of what has appeared in other games of the same genre, with the
movement from top-down world exploration to turn-based combat.
The animation of the final video could have been improved because I think
it looked a bit unfinished in areas.
6. Aural Qualities
The sound design of my product was adequate for the most part. I
believe I did a good job of implementing sound effects to enhance the
project. Examples of this can be seen in the attack and walking sounds. I
also feel the use of music was effective, as the pause screen, world map
and battle sequence all used different tracks to make it more diverse.
I believe I could have improved this area by utilising more sound effects.
This would have helped as some areas of design felt empty audio-wise.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
In this project, I think that the visuals were very helpful in creating it. The
use of colour was good in establishing the setting and used to contrast the
world, as it made it feel as though I made a believable location. I think the
colour used for the characters aided in making them stand out from the
background and give them all different identities.
I also believe the character designs (visually) were apparent in displaying
each character. For example, the design of the tree conveyed how it was an
antagonist with its darker colours and sharp design.
8. Audience Appeal
In creating this product, I feel I succeeded in appealing to the audience I
planned for. The game’s presentation was geared towards a young male
audience, as it looked similar to other games that appeal to that
demographic.
The visuals were simplistic enough but also detailed in order to create a
visually distinct world. I believe the use of sound was effective in
displaying the nature of the product and that the technical aspects were
appealing. To improve, I could have expanded some areas to appeal
further to these demographics, such as in number of characters.
Overall, I think that my product was effective in targeting a certain
audience.
9. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– The main strength of this video game is the animation, the
movement of the characters is smooth and looks very nice,
the health bar appearing is also smooth. The scene art is nice
and fits the genre of an adventure/RPG game. The character
design is clever and unique
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
• I would like to see more scenes of your game, also I
would like to see the audio that would go along with
the game to create a better atmosphere in the game.
10. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– The art of the game is well thought out, the use of colours on
the objects make give the game more depth, making it look
more realistic. The animation is good, the blue fire is
animated well, and the weapon selection has been animated
really well. I like the fire aspect (although it is ironic that a
tree spits fire) and the way the character is burnt to a crisp.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
– The only thing I’d say is to make the game longer, with
different locations of level changes – this would make the
game even better. The walking sequence of the characters
could be improved, by creating a standing sequence and a
walking sequence. Also adding sound to it would be able to
create the suspense of the enemies.
11. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– Strengths I really like the animation of the game and the
amount of detail it is in, I also think the colours
compliment each other well because it adds a depth to
the game. I especially like the fire aspect and how it
moves each time because it adds quality to the game
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
– I think it could be a little longer to introduce different
locations and introduce a walking sequence but overall I
think this is a good game with good animation and a
good colour scheme
