Existing Product
This existing product is pokemon. Pokemon is
the game my product will be the most similar
too as its going to use the same mechanics. The
same layout will also be used in my product but
I will use my own original characters and some
changes to the layout will be made to make it
my own. Pokemon red is the best example of
how close my game is going to look. Pokemon
uses very little animation which gives me more
time to focus on the looks and make sure I can
get all the animation complete in time for the
deadline. Has two characters on the screen
with a bunch of commands of what your
pokemon can do during the battle. One
character is not facing you and the other
character faces towards you to give an easy
view of which is yours and which is not. The
colour is usually grayscale so I don’t have to
focus on the colouring much either which helps
a lot towards the making of my product
Existing Product
This existing product is sonic chronicles: the
dark brotherhood. This game also has a
similar layout to pokemon with the fight
scenes but a more updated version. There
is more pixels in this product as it is more
recently made than pokemon. Instead of
the commands staying on screen they are
on a completely different screen as this was
a nintendo ds game. The characters are
facing the same way as pokemon to show
clearly who you are playing and who youre
against. This game is coloured in and if I
were to make it similar to this game it
would take a lot more work and I more
than likely would not have enough time to
make it. This game also had a lot more
animations then pokemon so would take
more work overall and given the time limit I
have wouldn’t be possible to get a product
im happy with.

This existing product is another
pokemon game called pokemon
diamond. Pokemon diamond has
the same idea but an upgraded
version of pokemon red. Pokemon
diamond uses better graphic quality
having more pixels to work with and
spaces out the game more. The
commands are still on screen to
show what the pokemon is doing.
There has been extra details added
then red like the platforms they
stand on. The also show more of the
character and better spacing for the
characters to stand. If I did this for
my product althoug overall it would
look better it would take too much
tie with all the colours, better
animations and overall better
quality then red.

This existing product is the most recent and
currently up to date pokemon game called
pokemon sword. Pokemon sword has
incredible graphics being able to use 3d
models. This gives the game a ton more
space and able to give it different camera
angles whilst fighting. The UI in the game is a
lot smaller and covers very little of the screen
but still has the same style with showing your
commands on what the pokemon is going to
do. The colours are upgraded massively and
also include a lot of shadow and blending
which isnt possible for the amount of pixels I
am limited too. This would be the best of
how my product would look but it is not
possible as it would take too much time. The
game also has brand new animations moving
the entire pokemon which would also take
way too long to do.
Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
– As my product is the most similar to pokemon 3 different
pokemons from different times were used in the existing
product to show the capability I could go towards. The all have a
similar fighting sequence with taking turns between them and
having your characters on one side and the enemies on the
other side.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your
on work?
• This research was incredible helpful for me to see what I
can do in the time I have. Having not a lot of time to make
this product I can make boundaries between what I can and
can’t do.
