This game has a top down camera angle with turn based RPG
elements. The camera angles would be suitable for the kind
of game I want to make, the game being something similar to
this existing product. The game has a variety of different
maps to play through with different colour schemes,
variating from dark colours to bright/vibrant colours. I think a
turn based RPG is good because it not only keeps the focus
on the players movement but also the enemies. This helps
the player to remain in focus as they move their characters
but also watching the enemies movements.
The graphics are quite basic, the characters and enemies stay
motionless until selected by the player. When a character
takes a certain action a EXP gauge appears, I could
implement this into my own game through a use of layers in
Photoshop. There are darker shades in the background to
give off the appearance of 3D. This makes the game look
more appealing because of how the background stands out.
Existing Product
The camera angle is positioned isometric, giving
you not only a clear view of the main character
but also any other additional characters and/or
anything in the background. The graphics are also
quite basic, the character animation having them
either walk or run whilst the background moves
along as well.
When a character interacts with something, a text
box appears at the bottom of the screen. This
means that you’re still able to see the majority of
the screen and doesn’t take up too much of the
screen. The font style is also quite basic, however
I think that this is also a good thing since it makes
it easier to read. I think this appeals to the
audience because of the simple graphic style and
bright/vibrant colours. I also think the amount of
interaction included in the game is also good
because it keeps the player engaged with the
game.

easily able to tell what kind of game this is just by

The camera angles used in this game are quite
simple, having the camera straight down. This is a
good choice of camera angle because it allows
you to view the whole screen whilst playing. The
graphics are also quite basic, the character
animation having them either walk or run whilst
the background moves along as well. The game
has a variety of different maps to play through, all
having the same sort of generic colour scheme.
When the character interacts with something a
text box appears at the bottom of the screen. This
means that you’ll still be able to have a full view
of the screen despite the text box being there. I
think that this sort of game will appeal more to a
younger audience because of the simple choice in
graphics and colour. You’re also able to tell what
kind of game it is just by looking at it.
Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?
– The researched products all have similar features such as the style of graphic, all of them
being pixel-based. They all also have similar colour schemes, it being bright/vibrant. I
think that bright/vibrant colours are more likely to catch the audiences attention since it
will give you more to look at and keep the audience entertained by giving them a lot to
look at.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
– I will want to include a similar sort of colour scheme that these games have. The colour
schemes being bright/vibrant, drawing the audiences attention. I also want t
