The document outlines the pre-production planning for a short film project. It discusses targeting an audience of 16-30 year olds on social media platforms and creating an experimental film focusing on visual effects. A schedule is provided that includes conducting research, production experiments, filming, and editing over 10 weeks with evaluation at the end. References are cited from surveys, interviews, and online video tutorials to help improve skills for the project.
1. Working Title:
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
The audience that I will aim this project at is from the age range of 16-30 as these are seen to
engage with this type of content more than others. This also makes the rating of 15 (BBFC ratings)
suitable as the age range is are from young adult to a mature/middle aged audience. The
psychographic of my audience would preferably be an experiencer as the point of my film would be
to invoke an emotional reaction which fits the experiencer VAL category perfectly. The audience
would also be social media aware as from a distribution point of view this is where most short films
are seen. Their social grade would range between C1 and D as this allows people to have enough
free time to engage with the content within their normal lives. Individuals who are avid social media
followers on platforms such as Youtube and Facebook will be the main distribution points of the
project as I have found from previous research.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Throughout my previous projects, I have found the pre-production stage to be extremely useful
when it came to the final production stage as I had created assets and resources which aided in
my final product. By studying 3 different specialisms throughout the year, I have gained new skills
in the Adobe suite which have been transferable across all platforms. I have found through
studying the different specialisms that short films were the area that I enjoyed most and that I am
most adept in. Going through the processes of making a film has shown me that creating this kind
of content is something that I enjoy and have a passion for creating.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The brief concept of my film is for it to be an experimental piece of film which focuses heavily on
visual effects, composites and CGI. I have chosen this because I would like to experiment with
these technologies as I briefly touched on this kind of effects on my previous short film project. I
believe this is something I will be able to build on and study by following various YouTube tutorials
and online advice which is ultimately will improve my skills as an all round creator. The previous
film project revealed my passion for the freedom of creating a large task such as a film which
makes me confident about undertaking this project. My previous work on Adobe Premiere Pro and
After Effects are the things that I enjoyed the most throughout all of the previous specialisms
however the other specialisms have also granted me with the skills and knowledge to create the
film which I am grateful for. I hope that conducting this project, with it being larger than the other
ones, will aid me in developing skills which are less product based such as research, scheduling
and time management.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I plan to reference my work by creating a scheduling diary in which I can take notes on all of the
tasks that I undertake during the project. This will also aid me with my time management skills and
overall benefit the project as a whole. For the work that I will conduct digitally, I plan to take
screenshots and create a bibliography referencing all of the resources I have used to improve my
skills. Another thing I will do is take behind the scenes pictures on set of different camera set ups
and rigs that I can then talk about in the technical qualities of my evaluation.
