The document summarizes research conducted for a client's barber shop business located in a countryside town. Through primary research of talking to the owner and secondary research tools like Cameo, the target audience was identified as males ages 12 to 60+ from skilled working class backgrounds. Most customers fall within the average local age range of 35 to 49 and social grades of C2 to B. The barber shop uses social media, particularly Instagram, as its primary contact method. In comparison to a larger barber shop, the client's Instagram feed has a more professional, cohesive color scheme but could be improved by developing more of a branding theme.
2. Audience
The audience for my client will be exclusively male as it is a mens barber shop. From the
overall feel of the business, I would say that the shop appeals more to a teenagers and
young adults as the atmosphere of the shop is very modern. However, being located in a
countryside town with aging residents, I would imagine the business draws a mixed crowd
of age.
Using the consumer search tool Cameo, I found that in the area the average age is
between 35 and 49. From this I discovered that this in the average age to have a family
who would also use services such as a barbers. The business is marketed as a high end
barbers which would appeal to someone in the social grade of C2 (skilled working class).
Due to the wage being above average in this area, we can assume that the social grade
ranges between C2 and B who are predominantly in the Admin and secretarial sector.
Primary research that I have conduct, by going to the shop and talking to the owner
concluded that the average age range was between 12-60+. Id like to take this
information to focus the promotional material I
created on social media platforms which the
owner already uses to showcase his work and
promote his business.
3. Tommy’s Barber Shop’s primary point
of contact with its customers is
through social media, in particular
Instagram. In comparison to the
biggest independent hair dressers on
the platform, the pages look fairly
similar; apart from the 179,000
followers accumulated by A Star
Barbers due to cutting celebrities hair.
The content however, in terms of
pictures and angles of the pictures, is
fairly similar which is understandable
due to promotion of the business
being the haircuts. Tommy’s feed
seems to have more of a colour
scheme featuring the brick wall and
the darker toned accents that are
made through Instagram’s editing
suite. Tommy’s looks more
professional in terms of photography
which is very good however I’d like to
build up to create some sort of theme
for the feed.
