Project proposal title and date:
Nemesis
Main area of activity:
Mostly video editing, however I will also be working with photo editing/graphic design.
Rationale:
Throughout the year I have learnt a lot that can assist me in this project. Due to the music video
project, I have gained skills in using premiere pro to video edit, I also used premiere when putting
my video game together. Having this prior experience in previous projects allows me to understand
the tools and effects that premiere has to offer, I can use this knowledge to my advantage to
improve upon my film trailer and edit it effectively. I can now easily apply what I have learnt which
will have a definite impact on this project. I have learnt things like cutting on beat, keyframes, and
using the various video and sound effects the software has to offer.
I will also be creating an accompanying film poster alongside my trailer. I have experience in the
adventure project making thriller film posters which share common conventions with horror. I can
adapt these techniques I have learnt to create interesting effects with this product. I believe the
skills I have learnt from the adventure project can be easily carried across to this one to better my
work. I learnt a lot about masking, the clipping mask, filters, brushes etc which can all assist me
when getting the effect, I am aiming for.
I started not knowing much about any of the necessary software, but I have progressed a lot since
then and feel a lot more confident using them. Through experience and experimenting I have
developed a skill set using them that I can now adapt to this project to better it. I have also learnt
about common conventions within media and how to make my work seem more professional.
Project Concept:
The concept is a horror film around the idea of being stuck in doors. I want to follow a similar style
of recording to Paranormal Activity as I believe it will fit with my current limitations of the pandemic.
I believe using the same recording technique will help instil fear and create a sense of the
unknown. I want to follow genre convention and make my film trailer more of a psychological
horror with a sense of mystery and unknown entities. So, recording in this way will not only make
my project be unique but will also help instil a sense of fear as it allows you to be completely
immersed in the universe. I will need to conduct research into film trailers like Paranormal Activity
and other trailers done in a similar style. Doing this will allow my own film trailer to follow
convention, and I can also analyse the techniques and conventions used in existing products to
adapt them to my own.
I wish to produce a film trailer but also an accompanying film poster. This will be on the horror
genre, so I hope to follow genre convention with this project: dark colours, ‘creepy’ imagery,
chilling colours etc. My concept for my film poster is to make a unique yet dark and sinister film
poster including many of the common conventions of horror however also subverting them to
create a unique and interesting product. I will need to do more research into film posters for horror
films. I should analyse how they are structured in terms of composition; I will also need to know
more of the genre conventions when developing my product. I will also look at film posters for
techniques I can replicate in my own film poster.

How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I plan to evaluate my work as I go, I will keep a production log and reflect on each day of
production. I will take screenshots of my work process then look at my work critically. I will discuss
how I did something, what went well, what could have been better etc. From this I can effectively
plan my next day of production and what I need to do next. I will also have a final self-reflection
where I look at my project as a whole and evaluate it. My work will be split into segments and from
there I will critically analyse each part of my work. I will mention the positives and the negatives so
if I were to do it again, I would know how to improve. I may also have a weekly diary to discuss a
week of work as a whole and discuss my progress, reflecting on the outcomes of that week. Using
these practices of looking back on my work and reflecting on my progress is a good working
practice and doing this with my project will assist me when continuing with a career in media. It is
important to reflect on the positive outcomes of a piece of work and the mistakes made and how to
improve on them.
