The War of 1812 was fought between the United States and the United Kingdom. Several factors contributed to the start of the war, including British interference with American shipping through blockade and impressment of American sailors. The war resulted in no major territorial changes and did not accomplish the goals of either side. It did, however, increase national pride in both the United States and Canada and confirmed Canada's existence as a separate entity from the United States.
