Initial Plans
Your Name
Initial Reaction
• My initial reaction is that I’m quite confident in being able to create a video game,
since I have already done something quite similar to this before meaning I am
already aware of what I need to do and how I will be able to do it. Also having just
completed an audio project makes me more confident working with software
programmes such as Garage band, which I haven’t used as much before. When
deciding what kind of game to make I thought about some sort of RPG. Because of
there being a wide variety of RPG’s released, all with different themes and even
different mechanics, this will allow me to experiment with different colour
schemes and backgrounds. I think that I am mainly good at animation and not as
good at creating/drawing characters and backgrounds.
Mind Map
Potential Ideas
RPG
Shoot Em’ Up
Side Scroller
• Turn-based RPG, which could include
two/or more characters in some
form of scenario.
• Could potentially use an old school
style of RGP have the colour scheme
just be both black and white.
• If using colour, I would want my
characters to match well with the
background and not look out of
place e.g. if I were to use a dull
background (dark colours) I would
want the characters I create to stand
out. I could do this by using brighter
colours than the background.
• I would also want to create music
that would fit well with my game.
E.g. if I were to create a fantasy RPG
game I would want to create some
kind of eerie and/or mysterious
music.
• If I choose to create this sort of game I
would want to make my version of
’Space Invaders’ or something similar.
• Could include puzzle solving elements
• Wouldn’t want to have a particular
colour scheme e.g. would want the
main focus to be the game itself rather
than just the background and colours.
• Could potentially use an old school
style of game colour scheme, which
would be just both black and white.
• I would also want to create music that
will fit well with my game. E.g. if I
were to create a game similar to
’Space Invaders’ or some kind of
arcade game I would want to make
music similar to 8-bit.
• Could include puzzle solving
elements.
• Would want the colour scheme
to be bright and colourful.
• Could include one or more
characters that the main
character could interact with.
• Simple music that fits well with
the game. The music could
change every time the character
interacts with something
important.
Mind Map
RPG
• Turn-based RPG, including both the player
phase as well as potentially the enemy
phase
• I would want to create an RPG that is
fantasy based and has similar mechanics
to popular franchises such as Final
Fantasy or Fire Emblem
• Could include one or more characters that
the main characters could be able to
interact with.
• I would want to include a colour scheme
rather than just using black and white
(like how old RPG’s used to be). I would
want bright/vibrant for the characters to
make them stand out the most.
• I would want the music to be similar
to old school RPG’s. Because of this I
could create similar to 8-bit
• Could include different sound effects
that occur when the main character
interacts with them and/or does
something that links to what would
occur
• Could also create walking sounds
effects for the characters to create
the feel of an actual RPG. This is the
same when creating sound effects
for when the main character(s) battle
and enemy. I could create these
sound effects either on BeepBox
and/or on Garage band.
• Backgrounds would be relevant to the game/the theme of the
game (e.g. fantasy).
• If doing a turn-based RPG, I would make sure to animate not
only the player phase but also the enemy phase. I think that
this will make the game seem more realistic and look
interactive.
• I would also like to to consider adding text as to when and if
two or more character talk to each other.
Mood Board
Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected?
Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
• Yes, there are repeated uses of colour and styles in the images I have collected. The colours
used in these images are all bright and vibrant, making the games look more appealing. The
fonts used are also quite similar, giving an almost medieval vibe because of the fancy fonts
and colours. You’re able to tell by looking at the images what kind of genre and type of game
they belong to.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• The images I have collected will influence me to create a product of good standard. It will also
give me reference as to what would make a good RPG and will also help me to create it.
Schedule
WEEK OVERALL PLAN SPECIFIC TASKS
1 Production Experiments,
Initial Response, Product
Research
 Experiment with audio using
BeepBox and Garage band.
Also experiment in Photoshop
when creating animation.
2 Product Research, Proposal,
Planning
 Research already existing
products to give myself an idea
as to what to make and how I
could make it. Also plan out
what I could make e.g. in terms
of animation and music plus
any other sound effects.
3 Production  Create my product
4 Production  Create my product
5 Evaluation  Finish and then evaluate my
product

2. initial plans

  • 2. Initial Reaction • My initial reaction is that I’m quite confident in being able to create a video game, since I have already done something quite similar to this before meaning I am already aware of what I need to do and how I will be able to do it. Also having just completed an audio project makes me more confident working with software programmes such as Garage band, which I haven’t used as much before. When deciding what kind of game to make I thought about some sort of RPG. Because of there being a wide variety of RPG’s released, all with different themes and even different mechanics, this will allow me to experiment with different colour schemes and backgrounds. I think that I am mainly good at animation and not as good at creating/drawing characters and backgrounds.
  • 3. Mind Map Potential Ideas RPG Shoot Em’ Up Side Scroller • Turn-based RPG, which could include two/or more characters in some form of scenario. • Could potentially use an old school style of RGP have the colour scheme just be both black and white. • If using colour, I would want my characters to match well with the background and not look out of place e.g. if I were to use a dull background (dark colours) I would want the characters I create to stand out. I could do this by using brighter colours than the background. • I would also want to create music that would fit well with my game. E.g. if I were to create a fantasy RPG game I would want to create some kind of eerie and/or mysterious music. • If I choose to create this sort of game I would want to make my version of ’Space Invaders’ or something similar. • Could include puzzle solving elements • Wouldn’t want to have a particular colour scheme e.g. would want the main focus to be the game itself rather than just the background and colours. • Could potentially use an old school style of game colour scheme, which would be just both black and white. • I would also want to create music that will fit well with my game. E.g. if I were to create a game similar to ’Space Invaders’ or some kind of arcade game I would want to make music similar to 8-bit. • Could include puzzle solving elements. • Would want the colour scheme to be bright and colourful. • Could include one or more characters that the main character could interact with. • Simple music that fits well with the game. The music could change every time the character interacts with something important.
  • 4. Mind Map RPG • Turn-based RPG, including both the player phase as well as potentially the enemy phase • I would want to create an RPG that is fantasy based and has similar mechanics to popular franchises such as Final Fantasy or Fire Emblem • Could include one or more characters that the main characters could be able to interact with. • I would want to include a colour scheme rather than just using black and white (like how old RPG’s used to be). I would want bright/vibrant for the characters to make them stand out the most. • I would want the music to be similar to old school RPG’s. Because of this I could create similar to 8-bit • Could include different sound effects that occur when the main character interacts with them and/or does something that links to what would occur • Could also create walking sounds effects for the characters to create the feel of an actual RPG. This is the same when creating sound effects for when the main character(s) battle and enemy. I could create these sound effects either on BeepBox and/or on Garage band. • Backgrounds would be relevant to the game/the theme of the game (e.g. fantasy). • If doing a turn-based RPG, I would make sure to animate not only the player phase but also the enemy phase. I think that this will make the game seem more realistic and look interactive. • I would also like to to consider adding text as to when and if two or more character talk to each other.
  • 6. Mood Board Analysis Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood • Yes, there are repeated uses of colour and styles in the images I have collected. The colours used in these images are all bright and vibrant, making the games look more appealing. The fonts used are also quite similar, giving an almost medieval vibe because of the fancy fonts and colours. You’re able to tell by looking at the images what kind of genre and type of game they belong to. How will your mood board influence your final product? • The images I have collected will influence me to create a product of good standard. It will also give me reference as to what would make a good RPG and will also help me to create it.
  • 7. Schedule WEEK OVERALL PLAN SPECIFIC TASKS 1 Production Experiments, Initial Response, Product Research  Experiment with audio using BeepBox and Garage band. Also experiment in Photoshop when creating animation. 2 Product Research, Proposal, Planning  Research already existing products to give myself an idea as to what to make and how I could make it. Also plan out what I could make e.g. in terms of animation and music plus any other sound effects. 3 Production  Create my product 4 Production  Create my product 5 Evaluation  Finish and then evaluate my product
  • 8. Bibliography • Name at least 7 sources that you plan to use in this project. These should include audience research, books, videos/films/video games, magazines and newspaper articles etc. 1. Fire Emblem (April 20, 1990) by Nintendo and Intelligence Systems https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_Emblem:_Shadow_Dragon_and_the_ Blade_of_Light 2. Final Fantasy (18 December 1987) by Square Enix https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Final_Fantasy_video_games 3. Monster Hunter (11 March 2004) by Capcom https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_Hunter
