The document summarizes Ellie Warmingham's process for developing an interactive game. It describes her research on game styles, colors, and characters. Her planning involved experimenting with color palettes and images. Time management was a challenge, as research took longer than expected. Peer feedback suggested adding movement to characters and improving building visibility. Ellie agreed the dog should move more and buildings could be more defined.
3. Research
• Researching a selection of games allowed me to see the different styles,
colour palettes and characters each one used. Some games were either 3D
or 2D and it was interesting to see how each one was played. Seeing the
colour palettes for each game helped me to decide on my own and think
about how I could design my game.
• I specifically wanted my main character to be a cat, therefore I researched
games that included cats as the main characters. Although, it did take
some time to find these types of games, especially with all different
gameplay/styles.
4. Planning
• The planning let me put all of my ideas into one place and experiment
with a mix of colours and characters I could use. I thought of a theme I
could use and the images I used helped me to picture my ideas more
clearly.
• A lot of the images I used, looking back, were very similar. I could have
researched some more and come up with a bigger selection so I could
have had a bit more to work with.
• My colour palette was a little limiting and didn’t full mix well together. It
might have been better if I had added different colours and spent some
more time experimenting with it.
5. Time Management
• On things like research, I think I spent too much time finding and
researching the different games. This made me slightly behind when I
moved on to the experiments. Luckily, the experiments didn’t take me as
long as I thought it would so I was able to catch up in good time.
• Without adding too much detail to my finished project, I manged to finish
it in good time and edit in the music/sounds. Although, creating the
characters, especially the main character, took a little time to achieve.
Animating and attempting to create a design I was happy with needed
some time for me to do.
• If I had had more time, I would’ve added some more detail to the final
product and maybe even added another level.
• I could’ve improved the editing too as that took a little while to get used to
with the editing software I used. I would’ve added some more sound
effects if I had had the extra time and improved it.
6. Technical Qualities
Neon colours
Main character is a cat
Different coloured sky
More vibrant
3D
2D
Open-
world
game
Main characters colour palette is
similar
Adventure game
Different font
7. Aesthetic Qualities
More movement to the
dog
Another game
sequence/level
to make it more
interesting
I like the neon colours
acting as the lights
I like the design of the cat
I like the overall vibe from
my game
Add
stars/clouds/moon
to the sky for a
better background
More movement to the
dog
Change the colour
of the platforms to
stand out more
8. Audience Appeal
Most of my audience likes my choice of colours and the
style of my game, although the sky could include more
detail and be more interesting.
My target
audience would
like the
characters I
included and the
way they are
presented within
my game. The
soundtrack fits
with my game
theme and my
audience should
enjoy it.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the colours and the characters and I like the fact
that it’s quite a retro feel to the game. The music
reinforces it.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• I think the dog could have moved more and had
some sound e.g. barking.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the characters and the way they’re presented. I like
the graphics because it’s simple and uncomplicated. I like
the way the cat moves and I like the way the music
complements the retro style of the graphics which gives it
a real 80’s feel.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product?
• I would like it if the buildings could have been slightly
better defined.
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the music as it fits the game well with the simple
graphics and the characters are also very cute.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– I didn’t initially realise the cat was jumping from
buildings until I looked from a distance. To improve
this, I think placing a moon in the sky would make this
more obvious.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I agree that the dog should have been moving in
the animation rather than being still. I didn’t have
the time to do this however otherwise I would’ve
done so. The moon being in the sky is also a nice
suggestion.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– Although I looked the suggestion to add a moon in
the sky, I don’t think it would’ve improved the
visibility of the cat jumping from the buildings.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
I would’ve made the buildings more
visible by changing the shades of black a
lot more than I did. Hopefully this would
look better to the eye and you could tell
them apart.
I definitely would make the dog have
more of an animation and sound effect
to make my game more interesting.
