Production Reflection
Toni Gibson
Process (20th-23rd February)
• This week I also looked into other games to give me inspiration for my own work. I
looked into the company Telltale games, which are well known for The Walking
Dead games.
• This week I began looking at my target audience. To do this I asked aimed at my
specific audience which was 13 and over. The questions were “When playing a side
scrolling game what are three things you look for in game play, and why?”, “What
would draw you in to play a game, and why?” and “What console do you prefer to
play games on, and why?”
• These questions allowed me to narrow down what would be an easiest form of
game play for my target audience. To play the game I found that it was a pretty
popular opinion that its playable on computer because according to the answers I
got, good computer games are hard to come by. It was also answered that people
prefer graphics to be detailed and not too plain.
Process (27th Febuary-2nd March)
• This week I began to plan my game. To do this I had to come up with three
different original ideas. I decided to do ideas for three different types of gaming.
Pixel shooting, platforming and hero/heroine. I came up with three individual
storylines. After debating which storyline I liked best I finally decided that I like the
pixel shooting game.
• I then had to describe in more detail on how I want my game to turn out. I looked
into other games to give me ideas on how I want my game to look like.
• I developed my idea of how the game is going to look like and what characters
there are going to be.
• Before I began creating my own game I had a trial go at making a short level so
that I familiarised myself with photoshop.
Process (6th-9th March)
• I finished off my trial game by having a go at creating a walking sequence and
organising my layers.
• This week I started to create my game. Because I have planned to base my
game off of the movie “Zomebieland” I had to chose what scene and
character I wanted to portray throughout the game. I chose Columbus
because he is the main character and looks quite simple, and would be easy
to edit when it comes to making a walking sequence.
• I used photoshop to create my game. I made the game play on a different
layer than the background because its easier when it comes to making it look
like gameplay movement.
• Once I finished the entirety of the game I exported it into a mp4 video ready
to edit into a finished game clip.
Process (13th-17th March)
• I put the exported video into premier so that I could add background music
and effects.
• I created the sound effects online using BeepBox.
• The sound effects that I couldn’t create myself I got off of YouTube. I
exported them into a mp3 file so that I could use them in my work.
Process (20th-23rd March)
• I finished all of my production work this week, so I finished off all of my
written work and began my evaluation.
